Places to stay in Oldstead
An original Jacobean manor built in 1620 with stone mullion windows, thick oak beams and yorkstone flags. Lovingly restored as a family home, where tradition meets mod cons from Chalon Kitchen to Linn room-to-room surround sound. Sitting in 17 meadowy acres you'll have an amazing sense of privacy and privilege when staying here. Whilst the Manor comfortably sleeps 16 plus a couple of roll-aways, the two country cottages on-site can accommodate an extra 12, if required.
A perfect retreat, Crayke Manor is regarded by many locals as the most beautiful home in the County. Not only the cosiness and solidness of the Manor itself but the way it proudly sits in its 17 acre surroundings. Near enough to the nearby village to stroll to the pub and far away enough to have ones own privacy and tranquility.
On the outskirts of the picturesque village of Crayke with its award winning The Durham Ox pub. Plentiful walks and historical sites, like Ampleforth Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey. Nearby towns like Helmsley and Easingwold. The historic city of York is only 10 miles south of the Manor.
  • We recently stayed at Crayke Manor for a family occasion. The accommodation is fantastic, with so much space and character. Ideal for larger family gatherings. The outdoor climbing frame was great for our daughter and the rest of the family enjoyed the hot tub, even in Jan. Justin was really responsive and flexible.

  • Wow! Just Wow! Just got back from an amazing stay, celebrating my Father in law’s 60th birthday with the family! The place was better than we could ever have imagined! It’s an idyllic place with so much character! There was so much space and with 16 adults and 5 children we were never on top of each other! Amazing reception spaces with the 2 sitting rooms and kitchen! It catered for everyone of our needs. The hot tub was a great touch too. We will certainly be rebooking this amazing manor!

    Lloyd2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Manor is even more beautiful and equipped in reality. John and all the staff at Crayke Manor couldn’t have been more helpful or hospitable. This is a truly special place to stay.

  • This was the perfect place to house our extended family for the long weekend. Amazing house, very easy to check in and just right for our large group. Justin was extremely responsive to my messages during the booking process and before/after staying there.

  • The manor is in an idyllic setting close to the village and is a really old and impressive building. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was really well equipped and the hot tub is a great addition!

Come and stay in our beautifully finished, tin shepherds hut at the bottom of our garden. We are located in the rolling countryside with extensive views over the vale of York. After a day of exploring this AONB, there’s nothing like cooking tea over the fire pit followed by a dip under the stars in our rustic hot tub. Fall into a fresh clean bed and wake up to the sound of the dawn chorus. Our bathroom barn provides all your needs for a morning freshen up! See you soon.
The name "The Hut In The Wild" is just our name for the hut. The hut is located on our property at the bottom of our garden not in the wild. It is a beautiful shepherds hut in a gorgeous area with a fantastic view over the fields and hills. Experience a little wild living, cook on a fire pit and soak in a rustic wood fired hot tub.
We are set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and literally located at the end of a lane in a farming hamlet and look out onto fields where the many foothpaths start. Close by is the fantastic Yearsley woods which is great for walking, running, horse riding and biking. Further afield towards the coast you will find Dalby Forest which provides bikers with a choice of green, red and blue tracks! If you want to cycle or venture off in the car there are many places to visit...Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Terrace. Helmsley, Malton, Pickering, Easingwold and Thirsk are our local market towns full of places to eat and drink and a chance to pick up some nibbles. We don’t have a pub in our hamlet but there are plenty on offer a short drive away. The Durham Ox in Crayke and The Fairfax Arms in Gilling are lovely gastro pubs. Or you can opt for a more informal pub in Sheriff Hutton, The Highwayman or The White Bear in Stillington where you can get quite a hearty meal! Hope this helps in planning your stay.
  • What a wonderful place Susi has. It feels like a real escape from the outside world. Lovely views and such a peaceful location. Lovely touches like fresh bread, eggs, jam, tea, coffee... perfect! Great hot tub too and brilliantly rustic all of it! Very thoughtfully done. Would recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all!

    Ben2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a hidden gem. The Hut in the Wild is perfect. Susi has thought of everything, and the wood fired hot tub was absolutely amazing.

    Philip2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot put into words how amazing this place is you just have to go! Me and my partner absolutely loved every minute of being at the hut in the wild and we will be returning!! Thank you

    Becky2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a quaint little spot that looked over a lovely stretch of countryside. The hut is perfectly equipped for everything you need. And the bed is soooo comfy! The hot tub was not quite up and going when we arrived which was a shame not to get into it in the day light - but was scorching and ready to go as Susi described three hours later. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay (even with the furious wind!) and would definately recommend!

    Amy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely Airbnb! Attention to detail and added touches made it feel so homely. Bread, butter, jam, eggs, milk & juice were provided for breakfast! We appreciated the hot water bottles and slippers. Susi kept the hot tub going for us and it was boiling, despite the weather. Hopefully will return in the warmer months!!

    Daisy2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Susi was quick to respond to any queries I had and was able to put up ‘Happy Birthday’ bunting for my partner. Everything in the hut is well thought out and the eggs, bread, milk, butter and jam are perfect for breakfast. We were able to enjoy the hot tub even in the drizzle as it was piping hot. It was a perfect private retreat and I’m sure I’ll be returning some time in the future.

    Hannah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A huge thank you for our stay, the birthday bunting and the little extras. We had a lovely stay and thoroughly enjoyed the view from the hot tub. We will hope to return in the warmer months 🌞

    Verity2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay away for a night, a perfect get away for some space from busy life. How rural it was made it extra special, very quiet and the hut itself was stunning. The hot tub was amazing, will be back in warmer months to experience it again but it warmed up well especially in the bad weather! Couldnt recommend the place enough, and susie was a fabulous host. Thanks again!

This property is a beautifully renovated former salt house, situated in an idyllic rural landscape. The house has a wood burning stove for cosy nights and a self enclosed garden should you wish to bring a well-behaved pet. Come and explore Yorkshire!
The Salt House has had various uses - it was originally used for salting and storing bacon. In more recent years it has been a coal shed and then a children's play house before conversion to living space
We are ideally located for driving to York, Ripon and Harrogate. Whitby and the North Yorkshire coastline is about an hour and a half drive away with several stately homes closer to hand. There are local walks to explore and some excellent village pubs within a four mile radius.
  • Our second stay here and loved it just as much as the first, would definately reccomend

    Jamie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely welcome and a comfortable cottage with all the necessary amenities. Beautifully clean and quiet in the rural surroundings. Judith and Simon made us feel very welcome and were most helpful. The freshly baked bread was a thoughtful touch too. Would thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

    Nicky2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Judith and Simon’s Salt House was a great hideaway for a Christmas retreat! It was exceptionally comfortable, quiet and spacious. The morning views were a wonderful way to start our lazy days :). Judith and Simon had thought of it all - they were great hosts! We would highly recommend staying here! P.s, the bed is exceptionally comfortable!!!

    Georgina2019-12-22T00:00:00Z

    Barry2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent cottage. Warm, clean and very comfortable. The bread, eggs, jam, butter and milk was a lovely extra and very enjoyable. The views from the cottage were beautiful on the lovely frost mornings we had during our stay. We were glad to have the log burner to keep us warm while relaxing watching TV. Thank you we will definitely be back!

    Fiona2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Just wonderful. Judith was lovely and really helpful on check in. The place is spotless and cosy. The fire is lovely. Bed is comfy. Views are amazing to wake up to

    Emily2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little hideaway with a lovely log burner to make it even cosier. Beautifully clean with everything you need plus little extras on arrival like fresh homemade bread and fresh eggs milk and jam which was very handy as the salt house is quite rural. My wife and I and our dog had wonderful walks and a peaceful stay

    Dennis2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Salt House is a beautifully tranquil place to spend a weekend, and we feel fully refreshed after our stay. The homemade bread, jam and eggs were a lovely touch, and the fire was just perfect :D We cannot recommend staying here enough, a little slice of heaven. Thank you again! x

A secluded getaway. Night life only extends to the twit twooing of the owls. Nestled into the forest with a beck trickling by. It's perfect for those wishing to log out and explore the countryside on foot. Tons of walks including a gorgeous 4 mile round walk taking in 11th-centuary Rievaulx Abbey ruins and a cup of tea at the cafe along the way. The chocolate box town of Helmsley is just five miles away with walled garden, castle ruins, shops, restaurants and amenities.
A self contained unit with a spacious bedroom, bathroom opening through French doors on to a private deck and garden at the back. A small but well equipped kitchenette with a gas hob/oven, fridge and sink shares he entrance with a dining/sitting area. The cottage is situated next door to the host, who are on hand to help. DAB radio with aux, DVD library and wifi running at typically rural speeds.
Located on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park makes our cottage ideal for exploring the local breathtaking scenery, beautiful old market towns of Helmsley and Thirsk and picturesque villages such as Rievaulx. Perfect for visiting the historic sites of Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle as well as our modest but beautiful 1100AD Church in Old Byland. The cottage is located in an utterly idyllic and secluded part of the world, really you won't believe your eyes.
  • Lovely stay surrounded by nature. Perfect for a get away from it all. Hosts very welcoming and helpful. Description of property accurate. Comfy and cosy.

    Sarah2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place couldnt recommend enough! Peace and tranquility at its peak!!

    James2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute little place with beautiful surroundings. Lots of cute local things to do and Katy’s place is a fantastic little place to retreat to! Myself, husband and two border collies had a fantastic stay :)

    Jess2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We would thoroughly recomend staying here. It's set in a very remote, peaceful area. A beautiful brook running through the back garden, what more could you ask for. If you're looking for a relaxing break with some beautiful walks and scenery nearby, you'd struggle to find somewhere that ticks as many boxes as this does. Coupled with the fact that you have two wonderful and attentive (but not intrusive) hosts on hand in Katy and Skot. All in all, a wonderful place to visit, relax, unwind and recharge the batteries. We'll be back in the summer, when mother nature is a little less cruel lol.

    Andy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is absolutely beautiful and in a really gorgeous location. My partner and I loved sitting in the armchairs in front of the big French doors, admiring the scenery and listening to the stream. The cottage is remote enough that you can really settle into nature, but there are also plenty of shops, pubs, cafes etc nearby if desired! Katy and Skot were such warm, friendly hosts and they made us feel so welcome. Katy knows the local areas well and provided some lovely recommendations for nearby cafes / restaurants. We would 100% recommend a stay here to anyone, and really hope to come back again ourselves to experience its beauty in the summer :)

    Hannah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous and tranquil location off the beaten track! It was so nice listening to the stream whilst falling to sleep accompanied with the odd hoot of an owl. The cottage was sparkling clean and well stocked of the essentials, it was cosy and warm even during a colder month like January. The hosts were very thoughtful and considerate and we couldn’t have asked for anything more.

    Sam2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful stay- couldn’t have asked for anything more. Cosy, comfortable and amongst wildlife. If you need a break or peaceful getaway, this place is for you.

    Lydia2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A very remote location so perfect for hiking, stargazing, and exploring the beautiful surrounding towns. We went in winter and still had a gorgeous time, we made a fire pit which warmed us up! They were lovely hosts and went out of their way to get us what we needed. They also had a very cute dog & baby :) will be going back here!

Greetings! I'm Faron, your host. Kilburn is ideally situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park with local landmark the Kilburn White Horse within sight from the garden. There's the Mouseman Visitors centre only a matter of yards away which has a lovely cafe inside that's open to the general public and the pub The Forresters Arms right next door. The next village along the road in Oldstead, is home to TV chef Tommy Banks' restaurant The Black Swan. There's also plenty of fabulous routes ideal for biking, hiking and exploring with the Cleveland Way only being 2 miles away. The house comes with various amenities, fibre-optic high speed broadband, a Google Chromecast stick to stream Netflix etc to the TV, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, deep fat fryer, herbs, spices, pots & pans....oh yes and 10 hens. That's right, fresh eggs every day! Don't worry a full guide of what to do and not to do will be given if you've never looked after hens before. There's also a butcher's a short walk away so you'll never be without sausage, bacon and eggs. What's not to like? 🙂 We're dog friendly and the back garden is relatively secure as long as you don't have something tiny like a chihuahua that'll squeeze through my picket fence 🙂 Feel free to message me with any questions you might have. Faron
Picnic table, apple tree, plum tree, enclosure for the chickens and lovely south facing garden.
Laid back country village, country pub, country things.... Like cows....lots of cows... And mud. 🙂
  • The Chicken Cottage is a superb spot. Lovely peaceful cottage in an idyllic setting with stunning landscapes on the doorstep, and not far from great pubs, walks and transport links. Hard to beat waking up to the gentle clicking of hens, who kindly left us breakfast each day! Thoroughly recommend and will defo be back.

    Rupert2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is well equipped with everything you’ll ever need, great location to relax and enjoy the countryside, within easy reach to the rest of the Yorkshire Moors. Faron was a great communicator. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

Jasmine Cottage is located on a quiet lane very close to the centre of the the historic village of Kilburn in North Yorkshire, UK. It is the perfect destination and property for a relaxing country break.
The cottage is perfect for a relaxing country break, either to enjoy outdoor activities, or a few lazy days in front of an open fire. The property is over 300 years old and was converted from the village “wash-house” many years ago. The cottage has recently been modernised to a very high standard, whist maintaining much of it’s charm and character. It offers spacious, luxury (“5 star”) sleeping accommodations for two people (super king bed or two singles, please specify preference on booking), plenty of space in the main bedroom for a young child (travel crib and high chair available on request) and there is a high quality sofa-bed available in the living room for extra guests/children (extra bedding available on request) - PLEASE NOTE - the living room is not a private space because guests from the upstairs bedroom need to pass through the living room to reach the bathroom kitchen. We only want to rent the space to those groups that recognise this limitation of layout and don't have a problem with the possible disturbance of downstairs guest and/or lack of privacy . The large bedroom features the original beams. There is a clear view of the White Horse of Kilburn from one of the bedroom windows. The property features a modern, spacious very well equipped, kitchen/dining area for four people. Facilities include: full/size washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, oven/grill, 4-hob induction top, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle, toaster and plenty of high quality kitchen equipment, stoneware crockery and solid oak furniture. We provide tea, coffee and many kitchen essentials. The lounge/living room is full of character and features a solid fuel/wood burner connected to a central heating and hot water system (we provide the wood/solid fuel - you keep the fire burning!). This room has all the original beams visible. The solid fuel heating system is supplemented by modern electric radiators and an immersion heater for hot water. The full bathroom has a high power electric shower providing instant hot water for the shower/full bath. The living room includes a high quality full-HD TV/Radio, FreeSat, Catch-up TV, DVD player, Bose music player and BT Infinity Broadband.
Kilburn village is very popular with walkers, cyclists and pilots wanting to try their hand at gliding at the Yorkshire Gliding Club, which is close by. The village of Kilburn features many beautiful cottages, the White Horse (large hillside figure), the Mouseman Visitor Centre, the historic church of St. Mary’s and the very popular Forresters Arms.
  • Cute country cottage in lovely village - shame the pub was closed a after a fire! Comfy bedroom and cosy sitting room with nice furnishings and homely touches. Well fitted out kitchen/diner with all appliances and loads of basics in the cupboards - all in all a great place for a getaway. Keith was a great host and made sure the log burner was lit for our arrival - really welcome on a cold wet and windy February night!

    Frances2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • For quiet, rural time away, it would be hard to beat this cottage. Communication with Keith was brilliant and the cottage had everything we needed. It did take a day or two to get our heads around how best to use the wood burner to heat the place, but once we did it was extremely warm and cosy - the detailed written instructions were great

    Vanessa2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, words and pictures can not justify such an amazing retreat! Absolutely took our breathe away and adventures kept our kids (8&12) entertained and away from the electronic devices! Can not recommend enough!

    Darryl2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect accommodation, we planned on going out for the days we stayed but lounged around the entire time due to the chilled surroundings. When arriving Melanie greeted us and was very welcoming, the personal touches were brilliant. The barn is very stylish and comfortable. The hot tub is amazing. We will most definitely be staying again.

    James2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for having us! Deffo recommend such a cute special getaway and Melanie was so kind to add special touches of balloons and Prosecco for valentines and my partners birthday so thankyou for going the extra mile we appreciate it! A lovely relaxing place and not too far from York for food/drinks/shops but far enough away in the woods for a quiet peaceful getaway! Thankyou from both of us!

    Faith2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Thankyou for a wonderful stay in your gorgeous barn, we really enjoyed our relaxing stay!

    Sophie2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay, lots of nice finishing touches. Set on a nice and quiet lane away from any noise you can really relax here. Could not find fault in anything.

The Owlets is a 19th century single storey stone outhouse that has been recently renovated to a high standard with brand new fixtures and fittings, as well as traditional features such as solid oak floors and beams. A travel cot can also be provided. Open plan living area The open plan living area has a comfy corner sofa to seat four, a wood-burning stove for cosy nights in, and a TV and DVD player. There is also a dining area with solid oak table and chairs, and a well-equipped kitchen. A high chair can also be provided on request. It is also surrounded on two sides by a neighbouring field with mature trees and plentiful wildlife. We often see/hear deer, hedgehogs, bats, buzzards, curlew and lots of other birds including our resident Tawny owls which give The Owlets it's name! We want you to enjoy your stay with us, and believe it is the little things that matter! We provide crisp white 100% cotton bed linen and towels; handmade soaps; Yorkshire Tea, freshly ground coffee and milk; fresh fruit; a welcome basket with local goodies; Ordnance Survey maps and local guides for planning days out; and a selection of DVDs, books and games for those rainy days.

  • We were not disappointed with our lovely stay. Owletts is just perfect , the attention to detail is so good you just cannot fault it. It was warm and cosy the bed linen was soft and beds super comfy. The kitchen worked well for our lazy breakfasts. The village pubs are great and so close it's a dream. We will be going back as there is so much to explore. Thank you to our wonderful hosts!

    Kate2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely comfortable cottage very clean. Thoughtful hosts and the area has wonderfull walks and great pubs.

    Sandra2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We booked last minute with our two young children, super happy to find something so nice at short notice. The cottage is beautifully done, all brand new, stylish with bags of character and absolutely spotless. Lots of thoughtful touches from Anna & Reece like milk, muffins, logs and even wine! Luxurious bedding and fluffy towels provided, even TVs in both bedrooms (to the kids delight!). Stove kicked out so much heat it was glorious. Could have easily stayed a week. Really nice village with a lovely pub a 5 min walk away. Can't thank the owners enough for being so welconing, will definitely be back again if you'll have us 😀

    Victoria2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Anna & Reece’s cottage is everything you could want & more for a relaxing stay in the peaceful countryside. We arrived late in the evening unexpectedly thanks to traffic. But yet we were still greeted by a very welcoming Reece, who had popped the heating on for us ready for our arrival which was very much appreciated after a long cold drive. Inside is the most immaculately sparkling clean cottage, but still has a very cosy feel to it. We had all the amenities we could have possibly needed and more. Outside the cottage are plenty of countryside walks, Reece also recommended a nearby pub which served excellent food. You are also in driving distance of York. We couldn’t recommend The Owlets more, and we will definitely be back to stay again!

    Zac2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Owlets has been beautifully converted with great style. Lovely and cosy and well equipped.

    Jane2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anna and Reece are brilliant hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The Owlets is sparkling clean and a real gem to have found ! This has been our second visit will definitely be back for a third ! Thank you

  • The Owlets is a gorgeous spot and such a great base for exploring the local area. We didn't want to leave!

  • Lovely and stylish accommodation with character. Anna and Reece were very welcoming. When they had an issue with their boiler it was fixed so quick that without the updates they gave us we wouldn’t have even known they’d had a problem. Exceptional! Don’t hesitate to book.

They were such kind and friendly hosts and so incredibly patient with our delays in getting there. Couldn’t recommend The Buddliea Annexe and its fantastic hosts more highly!

The private room is on the ground floor of the property accessible via the front porch (not used by us). The room has a double bed and a small table and chairs that can be used for breakfast. A simple breakfast will be provided. You would be very welcome to bring an infant with you and a travel cot could be provided on request. There is a small fridge and kettle available and a hair dryer. The TV has access to Sky Q with Sky Cinema, full Sky Sports package and Netflix available.
The market towns of Easingwold (4.5 miles) and Thirsk (6 miles) are within easy reach for a good selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Other lovely places to visit, such as Harrogate and the market towns of Ripon and Helmsley, are also in the area. We are a 30 minute drive from the historic City of York. • My husband and I booked quite last minute and were really pleasantly surprised. We had our dog with us and the hosts made us feel so welcome. There were lots of useful touches such as a dog towel, home made flap jacks (delicious), both milk and water in the silent fridge. We also had a yummy breakfast waiting for us in the morning. We slept really well and had a great stay. I strongly recommend this place. Many thanks!

Cosy cottage located in the North York Moors National Park with gorgeous big skies! A super base for exploring castles, abbeys, villages and the Heritage coast. Spoilt for choice in eateries from great local pubs to Michelin starred restaurants all with a 10 mile radius. Many guests comment on how peaceful and calm their stay has been. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families with children and pets (one, well behaved dog only).
The cottage is located at the top of Sutton bank, halfway between Thirsk (7 miles) and Helmsley (7 miles). Due to its elevated position, the views (and sunrises) are beautiful. One mile from the National Park Visitor Centre and in touching distance to many other attractions.
  • Lovely place to stay:) the cake was a nice touch :) very welcoming and happy for our puppy to run around free :)

    Laima2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a wonderful place to spend Christmas. The bedrooms were bigger than expected, the kitchen although small is very well equipped and able to handle Christmas lunch for 4. The location is lovely. Nice views, close to many local sites and walks. Great access to the stunning suttongl Bank. There was an electrical issue which caused power outages on Christmas day, the owners stopped their own day to dins a solution to get us through cooling lunch, then aore permanent solution after we had finished eating, and then had an electrician out the day after boxing day, an unfortunately timed incident handled very well by the owners. A lot of apologies and a bottle of fizz was left to make ammends. Would happily stay again and recommend to friends.

  • We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at Lucy’s cottage. The cottage was clean, warm and cosy and had everything we needed for our short stay. Location was ideal to access all the places we wanted to explore. Lucy’s a very friendly host and gave us detailed instructions on how to find the cottage. Highly recommended!

  • A lovely, comfortable and relaxing cottage in a wonderful location. Lucy was really helpful before we arrived and got in touch to give us some practical information and some great tips about what to do whilst we were there.

    Finlay2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We have a lovely stay at Lucy's cottage. The cottage itself has everything you need and there is so much to do and see in the surrounding area.

    Rosie2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Set in an amazing location, the cottage was so quiet and the views spectacular. Just a couple of minutes from Sutton Bank Visitor Centre and the many many lovely walks from there. The cottage was lovely and clean and very spacious. The addition of underfloor heating was a bonus and it was nice to feel warm tiles underfoot and a nice temperature throughout the cottage. Our puppy certainly loved it! Lucy was very welcoming leaving some essentials and a cake for us on our arrival. Top tips: 1) The gate opens outwards so stop your car slightly short of the gate on arrival. 2) Make sure to look up at night - it’s in the Dark Sky Discovery Area so the stars are amazing. 3) Set your alarm for sunrise and sit out the front and enjoy. Simply stunning. Will definitely stay here again when exploring the North York Moors National Park.

Cotters House is a quaint cottage located in the Magna Carta village of Topcliffe. The space is cosy but large enough to comfortably fit four, with many amenities provided. The cottage has been refurbished to meet the needs of modern day life, with WiFi and Freeview TV, but still features traditional aspects such as exposed beams and wood floors. It benefits from central heating, instant hot water and now has a new HETAS approved wood burning stove, perfect for relaxing nights in by the fire!
Set back from the road, the cottage has a private entrance and parking space. There is a garden and patio area to the rear of the property, with a large weather proof lockable store that is ideal for safe, dry storage of bicycles/sports equipment. We provide guests with fire lighters, matches and the all important, high quality, kiln-dried logs to enjoy those cosy nights in. We also provide you with some breakfast essentials - bread, milk, orange juice, butter, jam, six eggs, cornflakes, bananas and apples.
The village is lucky to have two great pubs - The Angel and The Swan, both providing good pub grub. There is also the Crab and Lobster for finer dining, about a 10 minute walk towards Asenby, from the cottage. We are in the prime position for access to towns and cities of North Yorkshire, as well as the stunning East Coast and are close to many great cycling routes, as used in Le Grand Depart of Le Tour de France in 2014, Le Tour de Yorkshire and the UCI World Road Cycling Championships of 2019. Though we hope we will have provided amenities required, there is a Post Office shop across the road in case you require anything else. Topcliffe itself has a lot to be explored (such as a motte-and-bailey castle) and so do the surrounding areas!

The house occupies a central position, two minutes walk from the local shop, a cafe and two excellent village pubs. There is also a leisure centre and playground in Ampleforth, and York is only 40 minutes away. Local attractions include Sutton Bank for biking and gliding; Castle Howard, the ruined abbeys of Reivaulx, Byland and Fountains, plus the bustling market town of Helmsley.
Our home is warm and welcoming, and the spaces generous as this is an old house built before 1745. The main hall is attractive with a french dresser and the bathroom is well thought out with natural stone tiles and is also fairly spacious. Outside is a beautiful terrace which enjoys full sun. The guest-room has been modified to include a kitchenette so guests can enjoy the benefits of a microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and work station. The cottage is suitable for a babe in arms but please bring your own travel cot/bedding.
Coxwold is a really pretty village within the North York Moors Nation Park. The neighbours are all very friendly and there's an excellent pub just up the road. It's well placed to explore York to the south, the Dales to the west, the Moors to the north and the coast to the east. The Georgian market town of Easingwold, with its cobbled market square has a great range of independent shops, a supermarket on Long Street, cafes, pubs and take aways. Thirsk to the north has a great independent cinema, James Herriot Museum, race course, a Saturday and Monday market - and three supermarkets. For history lovers: Shandy Hall, once home to novelist Laurence Sterne, is just up the road, Newburgh Priory and Byland Abbey a short walk away. Further afield: Castle Howard, Rievaux Abbey and Beningbrough Hall. For culture lovers: York has so much to see, from the ancient walls to the National Railway Museum, York Minster, and York Art Gallery. For walkers: From local footpaths to further afield there's so much to explore - maps and guide books are in the cottage. Food and drink: The traditional Fauconberg Arms is just up the road and there are some excellent restaurants and pubs nearby. We recommend The Carlton Inn, Carton Husthwaite, The Staypleton Arms in Wass, The Plum and Partridge in Husthwaite and, of course, the Michelin starred Black Swan in Oldstead.
  • Fabulous cottage, great location. Would definitely return.

  • The perfect stay in Yorkshire! We used this perfect little cottage as our jumping off point for exploring the area. The town of Coxwold is everything you could hope for in a quaint English village and we loved staying here! Sarah provided many amazing recommendations which we used as a guide for our weekend. The cottage was perfectly clean as well! We loved coming home and having fires in the fireplace every night- it was cozy and lovely. We would stay here again without hesitation!

  • Third visit to Braecote cottage and probably not the last. Super clean and tidy. Love it!

  • Beautiful cottage in an excellent location!

    Lizzie2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Sarah’s place in Coxwold. The cottage was super cute and the town is lovely - great pub. We particularly loved the log fire on a cold November evening!

    Sophie2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived at the cottage in darkness but there was a warm glow coming from inside. The cottage was warm for us arriving and spotlessly clean. The cottage is so well thought out with everything you could possibly need during your stay. Although too cold to sit out, the garden was beautiful and would be a delight to sit in during warmer months. We can't fault our stay at the cottage and would happily stay again in the future.

    Emma2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • Braecote is a wonderful cottage the three of us had an amazing time we cant wait to come back again and stay. Its an imaculate cottage very clean and tidy. I would definatly recommend.

    Richard2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic experience! The cottage is perfectly gorgeous and very well located for exploring the area. We had booked a table at the Black Swan at Oldstead, which is a very short drive (<5 minutes) away (and highly recommended). Sarah was a great host and especially helpful when we were faced with a power cut caused by the heavy rain, providing us with candles and even a small camping stove (which we - thankfully - didn’t need, as the power came back on sooner than anticipated). All in all, a great stay at a beautiful cottage with a wonderful host - we are definitely coming back!

All our rooms come with beautiful white Egyptian cotton sheets and fluffy white bath sheets. • Great place to stay in the country, clean and comfortable and nice pub up the road too.

  • Very tidy and lovely AirBnb apartment equipment with everything you need. A good bed and nice bathroom. Tom is a great host and there when you need him, Very nice and wants to share all he know about the area. We had a great stay!

  • The Old Post Office in Ampleforth has two quite large bedrooms (No 2, at the rear of the house, is slightly larger than No 1, which overlooks the road). They are fully equipped with TV, coffee machines and tea-making facilities and the most comfortable beds (Orthopaedic mattresses). Each has en suite facilities, although neither has a bath. The rooms are up some quite steep stairs and so disabled access would be difficult. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, and a wide range of cereals, fruit, juices and breads etc were available in the dining room, which also had a toaster, a further coffee machine and a fridge freezer for use by guests. Fresh milk and butter was provided. Guests had their own keys to their rooms and to the front door so all-day access was simple. The house was very warm, well-lit and welcoming.

Keeper's Lodge is located near Thirsk which is a 30 minute drive from Harrogate and York. It is located within 5 minutes of motoroway network (A19, A1). We are a small holding and have dogs, chickens and sheep and it is very quiet. We are in a great location for walkers. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, families (with kids). We also have equestrian facilities to use at an additional cost.
My space is unique as it is a hideaway. A great escape from your hectic day to day rat race. It is a place to unwind and enjoy the Great British Countryside. With Harrogate and York only 30 minutes away, it makes for a fab weekend break. The cottage is a brand new conversion built to a very high standard with all mod cons. One particularly fantastic feature is the master bedroom terrace overlooking the beautiful countryside. There are two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other room has a single bed with a single pull out. The two bedrooms share one bathroom upstairs and there is a downstairs toilet.
We have no neighbours, apart from sheep and chickens so it is very peaceful!
  • Beautiful place and peaceful.

  • Lovely hideaway, clean, comfortable and has everything you need. We arrived during storm Dennis and unfortunately couldn’t get out the place because of the weather to explore the surrounding area. This 5 star review should tell you everything about the accommodation. Nice and warm, enough to keep yourself entertained and as long as you stock up the fridge all the privacy you might require. Excellent!

    David2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine’s cottage is lovely. It is very well decorated & has everything you need for your stay. It is very peaceful as it is on a small holding. The cottage is at the end of a half mile track which is quite bumpy,it was no problem for us but it could be for some. It is well situated for visiting the surrounding area & visiting other places. I would use again if i was in the area.

A recently modernised lovely cottage with large oak floored living area and 360 log burner with sliding doors to enclosed patio with seating + enclosed garden area. The cottage is right next to North York Moors with the stunning Sutton Bank with its great cycling or walking routes only a mile away. We are 3 miles from Thirsk, home of The Yorkshire Vet. I am also only 5 miles from The Black Swan, Oldstead, the Michelin Starred restaurant.
It is calming, spacious and has fantastic access to the countryside, the sea and to two great cities in Yorkshire, Leeds and York. The 360 log burner is lovely to look at and use and the space is both cosy and spacious. I use a laundry service for the bedding which is 400 thread count white top quality hotel bedding .
The countryside- fromm the moors to the woods and the forests to the sea.
  • Beautiful stylish cottage, log fire, comfy sofa and well stocked kitchen, couldn’t fault this place.

The city of York isn’t too far away either, easily accessible by car or one stop on the train from Thirsk for a day trip to see breathtaking architecture and a wealth of quaint shops and cafés.
  • What a lovely picturesque cottage, traditional features (open fires and the phenomenal Aga) but modern touches (good WiFi, smart speaker and fire stick in the 43" smart TV). The hosts even thoughtfully gave us a lovely sprinkling of snow (which our 4yr old found delightful). Easy clear lines of communication, never overbearing but made it clear they were available if needed. The pictures can't do it justice, the location just fabulous (even as a proud Lancastrian I think Yorkshire may actually be God's country!) and hosts who obviously are rightly very proud of their cottage. Couldn't recommend highly enough. A genuine 5* experience.

  • Amazing place to stay in an beautiful location! Great place to get away from it all and plenty to do around the property whether you are a couple or have kids! Mine loved every bit of it! • We had an absolutely super weekend staying in Wainford cottage. Vicki and Chris are great hosts with very quick responses to any queries, giving us lots of info for walks and places to eat etc. The cottage itself is lovely, cosy and home from home. It's well equipped with everything that you need to cook a meal, chill and relax. The outside area has recently all been landscaped and provides a great area for an outside tipple - mulled wine was perfect on a winter afternoon with the sun setting Thanks so much Chris and Vicki!!

Very light attic bedroom with two skylights, a double bed and a sofa. The bathroom is not quite en-suite, but is just for you and is on the same floor. The house has off-street parking, is opposite a beautiful park and is within very easy walking distance (5 mins, some cobbles) to Thirsk town centre. There is both a pub and a church nearby, though neither are loud. The house has two very affectionate cats so please do not come here if you are allergic to cats!
There is a fridge, microwave and kettle available in your room.
This is quite a quiet area of Thirsk, but is still very close to the town centre, the James Herriot museum and the Thirsk museum. There are lots of countryside walks that start almost from the house that are easy to find information on from the Thirsk information centre or online. I am well-versed on the local eateries and a local cocktail bar has opened nearby which I am making an effort to familiarise myself with.
  • We have stayed here 3 times now.. we love it. its Fantastic little place.. lovely.. private spacious attic room.. with own shower/wash room. Tea & coffee making facilities .. cereal and choc bickies are supplied too! Perfect location.. Just five minutes walk into Thirsk town centre.. for local shops, restaurants and pubs. We will hopefully be back again soon. Eve & Matt are the perfect hosts. You won’t be disappointed 👌

There were lots of thoughtful touches like the chocolate biscuits and coffee bags and we loved the cute and very friendly cats! Everything is sparkling clean and she made us really welcome. I would absolutely recommend it.

    Paul2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was a bit unusual, in that we (my son and I) were in Thirsk for a party, and due to a taxi mix up we actually didn’t end up sleeping at the property at all! We were in a bit of rush and didn’t spend much time there. But we wished we had. The room is as described - actually better, in that the sofa bed looks really comfortable. The location is close to the town centre. The road is not busy and the Velux windows in the room open to the back. There is tea, coffee bags (so real coffee ❤️) and granola in the room. And Eve and her partner could not be nicer or more helpful and considerate. Definitely a top bet in Thirsk.

Black Bull Barn is a stylish bolthole in the village Husthwaite within easy reach of York, the North York Moors and within striking distance of Whitby, the east coast and the Dales. An ideal place to escape from everyday life for a relaxing break and to recharge your batteries.
The well equipped kitchen and dining area has a range of modern and antique units and under-floor heating. There will be tea, coffee, milk and biscuits when you arrive along with a few basic kitchen essentials. There is an oven, hob, microwave, and fridge with freezer box. The living room has oak floors, antique rugs and a mix of old and contemporary furniture. French doors take you out onto the south facing patio where you can sit in the summer and enjoy a glass of wine under the fig tree. For the colder months there is a powerful wood burning stove (the first basket of logs is included price and more are available to buy). Snuggle up on the sofa and relax with a good book, a selection of games, or watch TV. A comprehensive range of maps, local books and DVDs are kept in the housekeeper's cupboard. The downstairs shower room has underfloor heating and a powerful walk in shower. Upstairs, the beamed bedroom has a king-size bed with cotton bed linen, feather pillows, oak peg hanging rails and views over the garden and the village church.
Husthwaite is a picturesque and friendly village on the southern edge of the North York Moors and overlooking the Vale of York. There are a number of excellent restaurants and pubs in the neighboring villages including The Black Swan at Oldstead. Husthwaite has a tennis court and outside adult gym. The nearby market town of Easingwold has a good range of independent shops, a supermarket, some fabulous cafes, pubs and take-aways. This is a great area for walking and cycling and well placed to explore a wealth of attractions further afield from York to the south, the Dales to the west, the Moors to the north and the coast to the east.
  • Lovely accommodation, peaceful location, great walking and pretty villages. The tomahawk steak house is good but fairly pricey. We preferred the menu variety and cosy feel of the Falconburg arms in Coxwold. Really enjoyed the roaring fire and relaxing on the sofa bed, however it does get hot upstairs in the bedroom! Didn’t detract from our stay though. Everything worked perfectly, incredibly clean, great place. Definitely a wonderful escape in autumn.

  • Excellent property for 2, lovely wood burner on a cold rainy night

    Candia2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very stylish and snug retreat. Facilities and welcome are excellent and we loved our stay. Very good location to explore that part of Yorkshire with friendly and helpful hosts. We would certainly book again.

    Jo2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean and cosy with plenty of information to explore the surrounding areas or you can just relax sitting outside on the patio.

    David2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, this is one of the best places I have stayed. Sarah is lovely and so helpful recommending local places to eat, as well as plenty of suggestions how to spend your day in this beautiful part of Yorkshire. The Barn is absolutely stunning. A lovely and well equipped kitchen leads into a very cosy lounge with log burner and subtle lighting. Upstairs is a spacious bedroom with a fabulously comfortable bed and crisp clean linen from the White Company. The bathroom is spotless with a good powerful shower. Outside is a relaxing seating area where you can enjoy Sarah’s well kept garden and is perfect for enjoying an early evening cocktail or some good old Yorkshire tea, which ever takes your preference. I really couldn’t recommend the Barn more highly. Husthwaite is close to a variety of Yorkshire’s quaint villages including Malton and is not far from Castle Howard and the city of York. All in all an unforgettable place to stay.

  • Recommended! Everything on it and there for 2 people!

    Ronald2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Home from home in comfortable, stylish surroundings. A very well equipped converted barn in a quiet village but well placed for walking, exploring and visits to places of interest. The village pub just a few steps away is very welcoming and serves good food. Cannot fault this accommodation.

Thirsk is a traditional North Yorkshire Market town superbly positioned midway between the stunning North York Moors and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. It is near to the medieval city of York, Harrogate, Ripon and our county town Northallerton. Thirsk has a charm of its own, essentially unchanged and uninfluenced by the world. It centres around a bustling cobbled market square, dominated by the town clock, with its Monday and Saturday markets and independent shops such as family run butchers including H Lee & Sons trading since 1747. Just off the market place there is a good selection of supermarkets including Tesco who provide a home delivery service. Thirsk also has one of the oldest volunteer run cinemas and a racecourse with regular meetings. There is also a plethora of tea rooms serving home baked produce and afternoon teas. You won't be disappointed with the range and quality of food on offer. If it's a nice meal out in one of the many restaurants or pubs, or a cosy takeaway, you have Thai, Chinese, Italian, Indian and English on your doorstep. Thirsk and the surrounding area is ideal for walking and cycling, whether you are content to have a stroll or looking for something a bit more adventurous. Thirsk and Northallerton Leisure Centres offer exercise classes and swimming. There are a number of well equipped parks and play areas where the children can run off some steam, there is also a soft play centre within walking distance. Cod beck runs through the town and many children and adults enjoy fishing there, or just walking along the banks and stopping for lunch at one of the picnic areas along the way.
  • Lovely cottage, great location, really nice welcome basket

  • If you are looking for a sparkly clean, beautifully decorated and furnished, aesthetically appealing home....... This is it! The owners have thought of every eventuality and provided it! From the information pack, the myriad of utensils, the books, the games and the incredible welcome basket and card....... We were continually delighted and surprised with the efforts made to make our stay a wonderful experience. And it was..... Although located on a busy road, it is tucked away and very quiet. It is a 10 minute walk into town with lots if shops and amenities. There is a convenient shop 3 minutes walk and a leisure centre a 10 minute walk. Thirsk is an interesting and pretty town with many things to do and places to discover nearby. Plenty of walking and incredible scenery. Highly recommended.

  • Don’t hesitate to book this lovely accommodation. I’m an Airbnb Superhost myself and I know what goes into making something special. This really is something above the norm and better than any other top rated places we’ve stayed in. We travel a lot for leisure and business. Graham was a thoughtful communicator and the place is a recent refurbishment and absolutely immaculate. It was decorated with luxurious Laura Ashley furnishings, high quality bedding, cutlery and crockery. Even the carpet was thick and cosy. The attention to detail was fantastic with every thing you could need. A family of four or two couples would be very comfortable here for any length of holiday as the living room was completely separate to the kitchen. The fresh flowers and amazing welcome basket made our quick getaway a real treat. My husband was quite obsessed with the home made biscuits. You’d be pushed to find anywhere both nicer than this and better value than this anywhere in England. We didn’t meet the hosts although we were staying just around the back of their home, but we’d like to say a massive thank you.

  • My friend and I were blown away by this place! We didn’t expect such stylish, well-equipped, classy accommodation for such a reasonable price; the quality and condition of the accommodation is outstanding. The hosts communicated well before our stay and were available in a nearby property should we need them, but were in no way over-bearing. We were staying for a restful break (and found it so easy to rest in this cosy place!) so didn’t really use the vast range of local information supplied by the hosts. Thirsk is lovely for a walk around and browse of the local shops and cafes though. It’s brilliantly located for York and other towns and villages, and the A1 is just down the road so although this is quiet and peaceful accommodation, it’s perfectly located. The cottage is beautifully decorated - a real home from home with everything you could wish for and such fantastic attention to detail. We will be back and I have already recommended The Cottage to friends and family.

The Granary at North Kilvington is a 19 century barn that has been converted into a holiday cottage. Private parking and gardens with views across open land, visitors can use secure bike storage and clothing/boot drying locker. We are close to the Hambleton hills rich with cycling and walking routes, The City of York Park and Ride is 20 mins drive. incl WiFi , Wide screen TV , a DVD Library , full Kitchen facilities inc integrated dishwasher , fridge /Freezer, Microwave and a welcome pack.
Within the accommodation the original roof trusses can be seen, these are constructed from Canadian Pine, the large timber beams are slow grown and have growth rings of 250 yrs. Look for the carpenters joint marks where the timbers intersect, these would enable the assembly of the timbers in situ during construction. The Tie bars that run from the outer wall through the kitchen and Bathroom areas are an echo from the historic use of the building. Grain would be stored in the building upper floor away from any damp, however as the loading of grain increased this would have applied outward pressure to the walls causing them to spread – therefore the tie bars were inserted to prevent damage to the structure. The Granary has been beautifully furnished and decorated to compliment the original features, using high quality Oak timbers for internal woodwork and artisan Blacksmith fixtures, Private parking and gardens with fruit trees and views across open land are provided for visitors comfort and enjoyment, (the sunsets can be spectacular) also visitors can use a secure bike storage and clothing/boot drying locker within the storage area below the accommodation.
We are located between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and have great access to York, Middlesbrough and the Market towns of Hambleton .There are great independent cafes and wonderful pubs serving excellent ales and food in the nearby villages and towns
