Your guide to Prague

All About Prague

Known as the city of a hundred spires, Prague’s historic streets inspire visitors from around the world. Hop on tram 22 for a scenic trundle up to the castle and an excellent view, or take a seat in one of the city’s many arthouse cinemas where English-language films are a common occurrence. Art lovers will love Křehký gallery’s collection of work by leading Czech designers, while the medieval Orloj — the famous astronomical clock — delights young and old alike.

Scenic Charles Bridge crosses the River Vltava and stands as one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Part of the charm of a visit to Czechia’s capital is getting lost amongst the spires and cobbled streets and stopping off at one of its many cafes or bars as afternoon turns to evening. Insider tip: head to Celetna Street and picturesque Novy Svet and take a lazy stroll without a particular destination in mind.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Prague

Although many visitors head to the Czech capital in search of either a winter wonderland or the fun of open-air summer events, the city has plenty to offer at any time of year. Locals flank the river to soak up the sun when temperatures rise, while January brings the highest likelihood of snow. Carnival — Masopust, as it’s known locally — is a major event in many European countries, and Czechia is no different. Visit in late February or early March to join in the celebrations. As summer draws to a close, the city is transformed by burnt-orange leaves and crisp autumn air. Fans of the festive season will love the atmosphere of Prague in the lead up to Christmas, with lively markets scattered around the historic streets.

Top things to do in Prague

DOX Centre for Contemporary Art

Head to this three-floor arts centre in the lively Holešovice district to get a feel for the city’s character. No two visits are the same, as exhibitions are constantly coming and going. Don’t miss out on the area’s murals by leading street artists or the bookshops and galleries that fill the neighbourhood. This area has architecture, fine art, sculpture, design galore, so get your eyes ready to drink in all the glorious sights to see.

Divoká Šárka

For a taste of unspoiled nature just outside of the city, hop on a tram and take some time out from the cobbled streets to breathe in the fresh air at Divoká Šárka. On a sunny day, you’ll find locals playing volleyball, cooling off with a swim in the pool, and sharing picnics on the grass. When the weather turns cooler, try your hand at ice skating.

Astronomical Tower

Spread out over two hectares, the Klementinum complex sits in the city centre nestled against Charles Bridge, so it’s easy to find — and hard to forget. The climb up the Astronomical Tower reveals a magical view of this historic city’s spires and terracotta rooftops.
