  • We really enjoyed our stay here, lovely space, plenty of room, surrounded by fields and nice and quiet. It was just what we needed.

    Ian2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed my stay here. Caroline was welcoming, the cottage was warm and had everything I needed for my stay including some tasty eggs from her hens! Parking was right outside and had the weather been better I would have been able to use the table and chairs outside.

    Janet2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely property - even better than it looks in the pictures. Very clean and well equipped, and the field at the back was great for a lively dog. Caroline was helpful and welcoming - we’ll definitely be returning.

    Rik2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our New Year break in Caroline’s very comfortable barn. It was warm, spacious, comfortable and homely. Caroline had provided many little extras which were very welcome. All the equipment worked well. The bed was extremely comfortable and although there were a couple of cockerels with the hens we weren’t disturbed at all by them. There are many lovely short and long walks in the area and Gt Ayton is a picturesque quintessentially English village. I’d have every confidence in recommending a holiday here.

    Catherine2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous location for touring the area, this cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. Caroline is a great host, creating a relaxed atmosphere and communicating really quickly. We felt very welcome and would definitely return when back in the area.

A delightful old cottage overlooking The Green with a mix of antique, upcycled and vintage inspired decoration. The cottage is dog friendly, with a patio and large garden. Close to the the town with all manner of restaurants and friendly hostelries. Many of our guests have used the cottage when they have had family weddings in the area. These venues include Crathorne Hall, chapters, Whinstone View, Treebridge Hotel and Judges.
The decor is a mix of vintage and antique finds along with upcycled pieces I have collected over the years. A vintage inspired bathroom with a bathtub and a separate walk in shower cubicle. The kitchen has a range cooker and a cosy sitting area with a log burner and an outlook over the private patio and rear garden. At the front of the cottage overlooking The Green there is a cosy sitting room with an open fire and TV.
Stokesley is an elegant market town with impressive Georgian and Victorian buildings and known as a gateway to the North York Moors. The River Leven, crossed by the ancient Pack Horse Bridge, provides a perfect spot for walking and picnics. There spectacular views of Roseberry Topping and the North York Moors from the east end of the town. There are lots of individual shops and small cafes, numerous places to eat and quirky bars and pubs catering for all tastes. The seaside town of Whitby is a short drive across the beautiful North Yorkshire moors. It is famous for its connection with Bram Stoker the author of Dracula. It has quaint cobbled streets with quirky shops to explore. No visit is complete without trying the world famous fish and chips in the Magpie cafe. The market towns of Northallerton, Thirsk famous for James Herriot the vet, Ripon and Helmsley are a short drive away. They have cobbled market squares, delightful tea rooms and pubs serving great beers and food. The North Yorkshire Railway is a short drive from Stokesley. This famous railway has appeared on the Harry Potter Movies and the police drama Heartbeat. The historic city of York is easy accessible with a short drive on the A19. A pub for every day of the year, so the locals say! There is great shopping and loads of historic sites to visit. The Jorvik Viking centre is a must see attraction and has recently been re- imagined. Harrogate the spa town is close by and no visit would be complete without a visit to Bettys cafe and tea rooms. The fat Rascals are to die for. A little further away are the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Well worth exploring if your time allows.

  • We stayed here about the same time last year. which is why we chose to stay again this year. Wonderful place. Peaceful, home from home.

    Philip2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Pear Tree Cottage is a charming, warm and welcoming place, beds comfortable, great amenities, and near everything we wanted to see. Being on a farm, it is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and cities. The décor, no doubt thanks to Silvia, is beautiful, showing her flair for decorating due to her Italian background! The last evening we even had a chance to photograph a pheasant that walked across the lane in front of the car, plus two grouse. How lucky is that? And the sunset...well, that was spectacular! I can honestly say this is a fabulous place to stay when visiting North Yorkshire Moors.

  • We had the pleasure of staying here this weekend for one night. It was a gem of find and way exceeded my exceptions. As I was on my own with 2 young children (5 and 1) it was ideal as the kids could just run around in complete safety and we weren't disturbing anyone. My daughter spent time playing in the swings and a good time was had by all. The location was ideal for exploring and the place itself was clean and inviting. We'll definitely be back.

  • I had a lovely stay here. The Studio was larger than I had expected, was quiet, warm and had everything I need to cook a full meal. I particularly enjoyed watching the morning sun through the patio doors. There was a lovely sitting area outside, but the weather wasn’t kind enough for me to be able to use this. Jean and Rick were friendly, very helpful and easy to communicate with.

    Janet2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Another enjoyable stay at The Studio! Jean and Rick are fantastic hosts, and the Studio manages to combine great facilities in a warm snug space!

    Angela2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic place with amazing hosts! We loved our New Year break in Stokesley, and the unit is very well equipped and presented, in a beautiful location, and Jean and Rick are some of the best hosts we've met. The unit is larger than you expect from the photos, with modern features throughout. The kitchen is well equipped and a complete dinner could be prepared easily. Staying through winter, whilst not freezing outside, we had to turn the heating off because it was so lovely and toasty anyway! The bed is king sized and extremely comfortable with curtains and blinds meaning there is darkness when sleeping. The bathroom is small but extremely functional. The view and location were perfect. It has a 'rural' feeling whilst being an easy drive to many locations. We came and went from the unit multiple times and felt well placed. The highlight was enjoying our morning cuppas admiring the view - lovely! We would not hesitate to return to Jean and Rick's place and enjoy more of the surrounding area.

  • Lovely room in a house that we had due to being the only guests wholly for ourselves. Jo was super helpful and friendly. Would definitely book again!

A peaceful, warm and comfortable converted barn situated within the North Yorks Moors National Park with the Coast to Coast, Cleveland Way and other walks from the doorstep. The cottage is semi detached to our farmhouse with it's own private garden, shed with barbecue area and small wood giving complete privacy.
We are in a very peaceful location with an abundance of wild and bird life, dark skies and open views. There is a large unfenced pond to the front of the cottage, children must be supervised at all times. Access to the cottage is via a farm track, not suitable for very low cars.
We are close to The Wainstones, popular for climbing, and are a short drive from beautiful moorland villages, the North Yorks steam railway, Castle Howard, Fountains and Rievaulx Abbeys and the spectacular North Yorks Moors. The coastal towns of Whitby, Saltburn and Robin Hoods Bay are also very popular.. We are a haven for walkers with the Coast to Coast, Cleveland Way and numerous other walks accessible from the doorstep. The pretty town of Stokesley is six miles away with numerous pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops.
  • My second stay here and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, stunning views and really peaceful.

    Janet2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Super place to stay with everything I needed. The cottage was warm and welcoming with parking directly outside. Long drive up but I had no problem at all in my car. I particularly enjoyed watching the birds on the feeder in the morning and was lucky enough to spot a woodpecker!

    Janet2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • What a marvelous find, a clean, extremely comfortable self contained cottage in a beautiful part of the North Yorkshire Moors. We love the countryside and the cottage provided a delightful retreat with great views, an abundance of wildlife and walking trails right on the doorstep. The cottage wants for nothing, it is clean, bright and airy and contains everything you are likely to need whilst on holiday. The friendly owners live right next door and although non intrusive they are there if you have problems or need anything.

Book here for a peaceful cosy night’s stay in the heart of Great Ayton! The guest bedroom is a small cosy size with desk space and comfy 3/4 bed. Kitchen/bathroom shared, front room is private. Cottage is on a quiet street with a little shop 4 doors down for amenities & curry house at end of road. 10 min walk to the charming high street with pubs, shops, fish & chips, 2 micro pubs. It’s a shared property with myself & my 2 cats Amber and Arthur who are lovely - only cat lovers should book here!
This is a cosy cottage over 150 years old, ideal place to set up camp whilst you explore the boyhood village of James Cook - Great Ayton. 2 cats live here so only book if you love felines and aren’t allergic! Guests have a private bedroom, shared bathroom and kitchen with myself. Front room is a private space for me! Other than that make yourself at home. There is a small yard at exterior of property which is the entrance for guests. I use the front door entrance. Looking forward to welcoming you.
The pretty village of Great Ayton is perched on the banks of the River Leven. The village has ancient origins, with several Neolithic sites within the parish boundary. In former times, the village's industries included linen making, tanning, brewing and mining. Nowadays, the village is well known for its two picturesque village greens, Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum and proximity to the intriguing Roseberry Topping mountain. There are plenty of walks to enjoy, you must try Suggits sweets and ice cream shop and enjoy a walk along the river Leven.
  • Sophie made us feel welcome in her cosy cottage in Great Ayton. The bed was comfy and there were all the required amenities. Her two cats are adorable. The location is perfect, with shops and pubs a short walk away and a short drive to the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, where we enjoyed a climb up the infamous Roseberry Topping for stunning views. Intend to stay again!

Contemporary living in a gorgeous cosy cottage in Carlton in Cleveland, a beautiful quiet village in the North Yorks Moors National Park where the horse drawn Fire engine for the village was kept in the 1800's. *With Fast Wifi* We provide Fresh milk in a glass bottle and Orange juice, seeded brown uncut loaf, ground coffee, teabags, butter and home made marmalade. No extra cleaning charges! There is a great pub in the village, The Blackwell Ox serving genuine Thai food and excellent real ales
This space is the ground floor with a bedroom, kitchen/diner and shower room/toilet. Lovely and warm with very effective and controllable central heating. The super comfortable double bed (that most guest remark on as giving a great night's sleep can be changed into 2 x Singles, if requested in advance. The cottage was originally built in about 1750 but is now fully fitted to a contemporary, modern and high standard.
This is a beautiful part of North Yorkshire, in the North York Moors National Park and also in a Conservation area. Nearby is The Blackwell Ox pub that is a great local pub serving great genuine Thai food (and British favourites) and real ales. The staff are very friendly and we are fortunate to have such a good local pub! At the top of Carlton Bank is the Lord Stones Country Park where they serve good steaks from their own cattle in The Belted Bull. There are other really good pubs serving good food locally including the superb Golden Lion at Osmotherley that is about 10 minutes drive from here. This is our favourite restaurant! There are very good shops in the nearby market town of Stokesley that is less than 4 miles away with butchers, bakers, a bank, Post Office, Co-op Convenience store and a larger Co-op on the outskirts, coffee shops, bars, restaurants and many small independent shops and even a Mirco pub the Green man! A fantastic location for walking, cycling or just as a base to tour the Moors or pop down to the coast - Whitby is only a 40 minute drive, Saltburn is just a 25 minute drive away. York is about an hour away as well as Leeds and Newcastle.
  • Great property perfect for a work or leisure trip. Nice touches including lovely cakes, fresh bread and quality juices and milk.

    Jonathan2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • From the second we arrived both John and Amanda proved they deserve the super host rating they’ve got, we’d mentioned that we were arriving quite late but when we pulled up at almost 9:30 they still made the effort to come and welcome us! The cottage was immaculate and incredibly cosy and already the heating was already on for us! The welcome pack was also incredibly useful! And the cake was spectacular! Thank you to both of you for an amazing stay and to everyone else you could not find a better place to come if you’re planning to spend some time in the area

    James2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous little village. It was a pleasure to say and would be amazing to visit again! Thanks!

  • Perfect property for a work trip. Great location and a well equipped very comfortable property with a number of thoughtful touches. Amanda and John were great hosts.

    Jonathan2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous annex with loads of room and really well equipped. Brilliant location for getting up onto the moors quickly, as well as being reasonably close to Guisborough if you need to do a bigger shop

    Helen2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • From another review we read, we were anticipating Amanda's cake, and we were not disappointed. When we arrived, the place was clean, and we were supplied with milk, bread, marmalade, and delicious cake--all that we needed to survive for the first day or so as we recovered from jetlag and got our bearings in a new surrounding. We were there over Christmas, and on Christmas morning, John and Amanda left us a Christmas card, which made us feel so welcome and a little less homesick. The place is beautiful and the location is amazing. There is so much to do and see around the area. But, what makes the stay extra special is the care and kindness that John and Amanda give while you are there. We hope to return soon! Thank you for such a lovely stay!

    Glen2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed my stay in the cottage. It was warm and cosy with everything I needed. The homemade cake was delicious. I didn’t have time to explore the area but there were some good suggestions of places to go which John and Amanda have put together. Perhaps next time!

Perfect for a single person or a couple. Modern and cosy. Everything you could need for a trip to Teesside. Excellent location for multiple transport links and local attractions. Close to A66. 15 minute walk to Thornaby Train Station. 15 minute drive or taxi ride to Yarm for great nightlife, bars and places to eat. 20 minute drive to Teesside Airport. Stockton and Teesside Park 5-7 minute drive.
All space in the house is available, it’s cosy and hopefully has everything you would need. It’s only used for Air bnb so nothing personal is kept inside. We use it when visiting friends and family ourselves so often update and replace things as and when it’s needed. It’s open plan with a bedroom with built in wardrobes and a bathroom with a bath/shower. The downstairs floor was recently installed. Hope you enjoy your stay 😊
Stockton town centre has many micro pubs to check out, Norton village is close with cafes and bars, Yarm is close by and Newcastle and York is further afield but accessible via the train station or by car.
  • Booked this place for my parents to stay while they were visiting family. They were both over the moon with it and will definitely stay there again when they do next trip.

Newly built guest annexe just off the High Green, overlooking the River Leven and Waterfall Park, and across the road from the Tourist Information Office, Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum, shops, pubs, restaurants/cafes and take-aways.
Riverside has its own private entrance leading into a small sitting room (with sofa bed), bedroom (with super-king or two 3ft single beds, plus an optional pull out bed), and en-suite shower room. We can accommodate 3 adults comfortably (2 in bedroom, 1 in sitting room), or 2 adults and 2 children (1 in sitting room on sofa bed, 1 on pull-out bed in bedroom). The bedroom has a wall-mounted tv and equipment (kettle, toaster, fridge, crockery, cutlery) for making hot drinks and simple breakfasts/snacks. We provide complimentary teabags, instant coffee, milk, bread and jams. Freshly made croissants and breakfast rolls are available from a take-away just across the road, and cooked breakfasts are available at several local cafes/pubs. The sitting room, which overlooks the exclusive use patio and garden area, has a wall mounted smart tv. The patio has table and chairs and is pleasant place to sit in the summer to enjoy the garden and the sound of the waterfall. The garden includes space for parking one car.
Great Ayton is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and close to the North Yorkshire Coast. The village has 2 traditional pubs, 3 micro-pubs, 3 cafes, and several shops, including a supermarket, bakery, butchers (selling famous Petch’s pies), and Suggitt’s ice-cream & sweet shop. A short drive takes you into beautiful countryside, many lovely villages, the Moors Visitor Centre, and seaside resorts, including Whitby and Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Many local walks start from our front door, some easy, some a little more challenging, including the ascents of Roseberry Topping and Captain Cooks Monument. We welcome walkers doing the Cleveland Way or Coast to Coast and, on request, can offer single night stays and pick-up and drop-off for a modest extra charge. We also welcome cyclists and provide secure cycle storage in our garage.
  • Great place to stay. Warm and comfy. This was my second stay and I enjoyed it as much this time as I did before.

  • I was greeted with a lovely selection of foodie bits. The place was sparkling new with a cosy feel. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Perfect location in the middle of the village, lovely garden view and amenities on the doorstep, but still peaceful.

    Katharine2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Spotlessly clean, homely and comfortable small flat. The place consists of a bedroom with a small kitchen area (cupboard, kettle and mini-fridge), en-suite bathroom, seating area in the porch/sun room and access to a nice patio with seating area and pleasant view (we didn't make use of this sadly as it was February and we were only there for a few hours). It's really nicely situated in the heart of Great Ayton but tucked away down a side road. Another lovely thing about this place was the welcome pack of bread, butter, teabags, milk, chocolate brownies, apples...maybe more I've forgotten. There are also some basic toiletries in the bathroom which was helpful. Would happily recommend this place.

The lodge has everything you need for a relaxing weekend away. Elizabeth was a great host. Our little boy loved watching the cows being fed and stroking the farm dogs. Thanks again!

  • Wow! Elizabeth's lodge is truly stunning, light, bright, spacious with fantastic views! I think it has to be my favourite air bnb place so far...and I've stayed in a few! It was so clean, private and really quiet (apart from the wind and rain storm ciara brought! haha) We did an 8 mile circular walk from the village of carlton, up to carlton bank, along to Faceby and finished in the pub back at carlton with a roaring fire and much deserved pint of ale. Highly recommend Elizabeth's place and can't wait to return in the warmer weather.

    Lisa2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Super place to stay. The Lodge had everything I needed, was warm and comfortable, quiet and with lovely views. The homemade cake was delicious and I enjoyed the eggs knowing they came from the farm. Hope to come back when the weather is better so that I can make use of the garden and explore the local walks.

  • Convenient house to stay in and easy to find. Good for young children. Lovely view of the green and high street from outside. Close to all amenities. There are masses of places to eat and drink within Stokesley and everything is within walking distance. There is a lovely walk down the river which runs through the centre of the town, with plenty of benches and the ducks to feed. Parking is easy enough. Either outside the house or over the green. It is free. If you need to park in the town you need a parking disc, which can be obtained from any shop or pub and which allows free parking for a specified time. It is a delightful country town to stay in and you are at the foot of the Cleveland Hills and a short drive to the seaside. Middlesbrough is twenty minutes drive away. This is a good house to stay in and to use to enjoy a fantastic area.

  • Lovely little cottage, tucked away off Newton Road. Well equipped. Cosy warm when we were there in Dec. Great little village with two pubs, co op and other cafes and shops. Great for walking and for dogs. Walked up to Roseberry Topping and Captain Cooks monument. You can get round on the bus and train (rail sta about a mile walk). We loved it.

  • From the moment of booking this was a delightful holiday, Caroline was impeccable with communication and was so thoughtful and helpful from beginning to end, she even went to extra effort to help me locate what would have been the house my mother was born in in nearby Marton. The hut itself is a sparkling clean beautifully decorated cosy and well equipped home away from homes with all the things needed to cook in and have that all important cuppa (Yorkshire of course) in the morning! There was also lots of information for sight seeing in the surrounding areas and the location is incredibly beautiful and peaceful with a short walk to all amenities. We had a perfectly idyllic weekend climbing roseberry topping and visiting Whitby. I definitely hope to return! :)

    Francesca2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived to sparkling fairy lights lighting the little bridge to the hut. Inside we found the hut decorated beautifully with Christmas touches- so lovely. The bed was super comfy with high quality bed linen. We enjoyed walks at the coast and a meal at the Royal Oak, where they did hearty vegetarian meals.

  • An amazing find on the edge of the NthYorks Moors. Caroline and Andrew were marvellous, could not had asked for better hosts nor a better place to stay. Would highly recommend and will def stay here again 10/10 👍🏼

    josie2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical weekend my husband and I have just had. We arrived in the dark, late on Friday night but found the place easily from Caroline’s helpful directions, the holly branch fully of berries thoughtfully attached to the double gates at the entrance to the field and the outside light to the hut having been left on to illuminate our footsteps across the bridge to the front door. We were delighted with the accommodation as soon as we opened the stable style door and fell in love with this gem of a place in an instant. The bottle of bubbly, chocolates and personalised birthday card we’re a much appreciated and generous gesture, thank you! The hut has everything you need for a really comfortable stay. Ample crockery and glassware, pans and cutlery. Place mats, kitchen roll, toiletries, fluffy towels, you name it. The wood burning stove and superbly snuggly bed were just the icing on the cake and made for a very cosy and restful weekend. Refreshed from a great night’s sleep, we enjoyed the walk up to Roseberry Topping through Fletchers Farm making a note to selves to pop in there for a coffee on the way down. It was such a wet day but undeterred we soldiered on and reached the top. No view today though as the most had descended. We completed a circular route back down, squelching through muddy footpaths and grateful for our walking boots and full waterproofs. The coffee at Fletchers Farm was very welcome. Back to the hut to change and freshen up before making the ten or so minute walk into Great Ayton for the afternoon special at The Royal Oak pub and a game or two of dominoes! Another restful evening followed and a welcome lie in on Sunday morning. Despite the forcast of more rain the sun decided to shine and, not content with one helping, we took another hike up Roseberry Topping to see the view. It did not disappoint - you can see for miles on a clear day! Back down for bacon sandwich and to pack up before heading to Saltburn by the Sea for the afternoon. We can’t recommend this place enough. Great accommodation and great area for a wonderfully recharging weekend. Thank you Caroline and Andrew

  • Beautiful stay in this cosy shepherd's hut/tiny house. Great amenities for making food on the hob and clean ensuite. Hosts were very friendly and the area is lovely for country side walks. Royal Oak in village was lovely for dinner with some good vegan options. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

    Tim & Grace2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect weekend getaway with a little bit of luxury! The hut is beautiful, well-appointed (kitchen equipment, crockery, bathroom things etc), and in a lovely secluded spot. Caroline was friendly and informative, but gave us our privacy once we were settled in - the perfect host. It's an easy walk to Great Ayton village, for pubs, cafes and a co-op supermarket; we walked up Roseberry Topping and to Captain Cooks monument (an easy 6-7 mile circular route) directly from the cabin. We also had an excellent dinner at The Royal Oak. Great location.

  • We had a lovely stay at Caroline’s! A perfect weekend getaway close to the Moors and all the beautiful landscape it has to offer. Caroline was quick to reply and was an excellent host! We loved our time here 😊

Private and cozy double room in the quiet and pleasant suburb of Acklam, Middlesbrough. Close to James Cook Hospital and Teesside University. This room is suitable for a couple or a single business traveller featuring a comfortable double bed. A second double bed may be negotiated, if required. The bathroom (bath and shower - separate toilet) is shared if I'm home and has never been problematic with guests. Use of kitchen available Quiet during the day if people are on night shifts
Your own space will be a private double room (second double bed in my office could be negotiated should you need another bed). Day rates can be agreed if you need to work nights, just ask. I travel and work away from home frequently, so your welcome to share my home with me if I'm home, or you may have it to yourself if I'm not around. If having the house to yourself is one of the boxes you need ticking, please ask. As the house is my home, it represents me and my style. Your room will be clean and tidy but the rest of my home is lived in and not sterile and soulless. My home is cozy and tastefully decorated in a traditional style. Sorry there is no John Lewis furniture here and you won't find much of a foreign furniture store here either. The bed is comfortable, nice linen, pillows and and good blackout curtains to ensure a good nights sleep. I've include a kettle etc in the room, however this is my home and I'd rather you use the kitchen, but I recognise some people don’t like too. Kitchen has a microwave and room in the fridge too if you need that. I'm being honest and please be realistic with your expectations for the price, don't expect boutique hotel, however my home is not a building site so don't worry! As a frequent traveller for work, this listing may appeal to someone staying away a lot and who wants to find a reasonable homely place to rest their head, unwind and preferable to a soulless grey walled chain hotel. Please note I don't make / provide breakfast due to my schedule, or working away, However basic provisions will be provided, tea, coffee, cereal etc. If nobody is here you may need your own bread and milk so you've got some fresh, but I'll let you know if that's the case. Access to major roads, A19 and A66 are close by, and it is ten mins taxi ride to either Thornaby or Middlesbrough train stations. There is a bus route into town from the end of the road (5 mins walk) with regular bus services. James Cook University Hospital is 5 mins drive away as is Teesside University. There is ample parking in the street outside the house and if I'm not here you can park on the drive.
The space is in a pleasant and quiet suburb, close to town centre. Acklam Hall stands close to the house and has an upmarket restaurant and bar. For those on a more limited budget there are shops (Tesco Express, butcher, bakers) and takeaways and two pubs 5 mins away at the end of the road.
