  • Amazing stay. Very clean and true to pictures. Highly recommend and both Sarah and Jacob were amazing hosts.

  • A great place to stay in Willits, comfortable room, own bathroom and shared use of the kitchen. Jakob and Sarah are great hosts, very welcoming and owners of the recently opened Northspur Brewery down the road in the center of Willits, which is well worth a visit - we would definitely stay again!

  • We had a great stay at Sarah‘s lovely home. The bedroom is spacious and the bed is comfortable. Sarah is a great host and we recommend whoever travels to the area to stay at her place.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Sarah’s. It was just what we were looking for. Room is comfortable and bed is firm. Bathroom is terrific with a really great tub. We left early on Sunday and I really appreciate the tip for an early breakfast spot. And my husband really enjoyed his bath in the beautiful tub! We couldn’t figure out the plug for the tub and he was super grateful for Sarah responding last night (even though she was out) with the info so that he could enjoy it.

  • Sarah and Jakob have a beautiful Arts and Crafts house in an extremely quiet location a stone’s throw away from the centre of Willits. We had the run of a well-equipped kitchen and enjoyed sitting out on their back porch. The bedroom and private bathroom were spacious and comfortable.

  • Greet hosts and super location for touring around. Good Szechuan restaurant in town.

  • Jacob and Sarah are wonderful hosts. Some of the best I've stayed with. Their house is beautiful, the accommodations are very comfortable, they are very pleasant and attentive and fun to talk with. If you stay with them, make sure to also check out their brewery (North Spur Brewery) which will be opening soon. They sponsored beer for the festival I was attending and while I'm not a beer drinker, all the beer drinkers I talked to gave it very positive reviews.

    Owen2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Jakob and Sarah was nothing short of amazing. They both showed fantastic hospitality during our 2 night stay. Jakob allowed us to tour his upcoming brewery and take us around town. Excellent communication. Would definitely stay again.

  • The studio is very spacious, clean, and cozy. Also, Ann was a wonderful host! I also liked the selections of coffee.

    Daniel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Nice space, convenient location, easy checkin. Appreciated that the kitchen was fully stocked with all the pots, pans, utensils etc that we needed for cooking. We were out most days so didn’t interact with Ann much but she was very pleasant and was available if needed. Only thing that could a problem for some (eg light sleepers) is that the bed is a a bit squeaky, however all in all place is a good value. We hope to visit and stay there again.

1905 Craftsman home built for the president of the Union Lumber Company almost entirely of Redwood. The was the first house in Willits to have electricity. You will be stepping back in time with hosts who have traveled the world. You will be welcomed as friend to our home.
1905 Craftsman home built for the president of the Union Lumber Company. The house was built to show off the uses of redwood and each room was done differently. We have been working to restore it to its original elegance. It is a little bit of a museum of the period. It is beautiful to step back in time and yet feel comfortable. The room is a large 450 sq. ft. downstairs bedroom with private bath. There is also a room off the master bedroom with an addition double bed, sink, and refrigerator. We provide an amazing assortment of tea and coffee. We have spent many years traveling the world and love to talk travel. Our goal is to share the same hospitality we have found in our travels. Willits is the gateway to the redwoods, just north of the wine country and 1 hour to the Mendocino coast. We are located in the center of town within a short walk to everything. The house is 5000 sq. ft. and has a big kitchen. We will do as much as possible to make it feel like your home. Our favorite part of hosting is meeting people. We are happy to talk about what to see in Mendocino County or any other part of the world. This is the premier street to live on in Willits. Quite neighborhood a few minutes from downtown
Redwood Ave is a wide tree lined street where we stand outside and talk to neighbors. It is a short walk to shops, restaurants, theater and parks. Willits is home to a great local museum, Roots of Power where there is a fantastic collection of working steam engines, the Skunk train, and the Willits Rodeo 4th of July week. The local pub always has live music.
  • It was a great place to stay at. Nice hosts.

Comfortable private guest house, two-story, full kitchen and full bathroom downstairs, loft bedroom and one large bedroom with propane fireplace upstairs. Beautiful setting, marshland view, birds and wildlife, gorgeous sunsets, quiet nights, fresh air and only 8 miles from downtown. Perfect for a relaxing, creative getaway!
Our hilltop ranch is one of the most beautiful spots in the area. We're located just eight miles northwest of downtown, seven miles out a two lane paved country road, across a single-lane bridge, with the last half-mile stretch of dirt road leads visitors up the mountain to our private heaven. There's plenty of nature here! The rugged environment of natural sights and sounds will renew your spirit with fresh air, plentiful wildlife (watch for wild turkeys and deer on the road!), lush forest surroundings and wide open meadows. This is a place to relax and let the pressures of life disappear. Our twenty-two acres offers a place for you to breathe deeply, enjoy the view and take nature walks out multiple private roads that meander through the hills. Land parcels here are twenty to forty acres, so neighbors are a distance away yet near enough to create a neighborhood feeling. Our ranch was home to sixteen sheep before we turned it into a horse ranch for our daughter who now has her own ranch. The arena, round pen and horse stalls are still here but aren't used unless horses are hauled in, which isn't often. We call the guest house where you'll stay the "Red Barn Guest House". It's located in our big red barn building where the sheep and horses used to live. Twelve years ago, we converted the animal spaces into a woodworking shop and art studio and remodeled the pre-existing guest unit. Since then, family and friends have enjoyed staying in the Red Barn, and now we're sharing it with visitors like you. The woodworking shop and art studio are our private work spaces which we don't share. Our place is one of the last parcels here on the power grid, so electricity is available in the Red Barn. Our water comes from our well and we have a start-of-the-art filtration system. We collect rain water and store it to insure sufficient water for our needs, and our water system processes fresh, clean water into our home. You'll see several of our water tanks when you turn the corner to our ranch. The Red Barn is private and quiet, has its own entrance porch, deck and carport parking space. The interior has tile flooring throughout and a large tile shower. The kitchen area contains a double-oven range, microwave, small refrigerator, toaster, electric coffee brewer and water heater for tea. There is dining space to accommodate 4 to 6 people on an expandable round table plus a wall-mounted table where you can sit and enjoy the view while eating, relaxing or working. The stairway leads to a loft bedroom and one large bedroom with propane fireplace upstairs. Both have comfortable queen size beds. One bed is a Bamboo brand, an eco-friendly mattress made completely of natural bamboo, which is topped with a 2" foam memory pad, and the other is a Casper mattress, one of the best memory foam mattresses on the market. The loft also has a "bonus bed", a single twin bed with a high quality, comfortable mattress. All beds will provide you with a good night's sleep, comfortable rest and rejuvenation. Each bed is made up with fresh soft white linens and pillows to add to your comfort. WIFI is available here on Satellite. Due to our rural location our connection isn't high speed, but it is fast enough for basic online needs. For our guests who enjoy media, we installed a TV plus a DVD player to watch movies, and a small library of books if you want to curl up and read. Electronic devices work here for email and texting, however, cell phone services are spotty or may not work at all depending on your provider. The Red Barn is cleaned and ready for each guest, and the kitchen includes bottled water, ground coffee, instant coffees, a variety of teas and cocoas, muffins and bananas, a few sodas and snack foods, four dinner place settings, coffee mugs, water glasses, wine glasses, plus utensils, paper plates and cups, flatware for four, plastic utensils, various kitchen utensils and a cutting board. The bathroom is stocked with basic soaps, shampoos, tooth brushes and related peronal care supplies in case you forget to bring your own. Our ranch has become a popular destination for friends and family who travel here each year. We've hosted about 600 guests from 11 countries in our first three years as hosts on Airbnb. Everyone enjoys the fresh, natural, rugged environment, local amenities and unique community. We live a different lifestyle, and you will enjoy a much-needed break from fast-paced city living. Mendocino County is rich with plentiful local wineries, breweries, artisan shops, arts and crafts. We are located centrally just an hour away from the Giant Redwoods to the north, the gorgeous northern California coast to the west, dozens of wineries to the south and the San Joaquin valley to the east. Many of our guests enjoy taking day trips in each direction. Locally, our small town offers several eateries, many family-owned, and some with organic, natural and vegan choices, as well as small old-fashioned restaurants and fast food favorites. We welcome guests from worldwide and are fluent in English, German and French, as well as conversational Italian.
Our neighborhood is the forest and open meadows divided into 20 to 40 acre parcels. The natural surroundings are rugged and full of wildlife. Our place is remote yet close enough to town to shop or eat out.

  • The stay at Joy and Burt's farm was a very good experience. Burt met us even if it was late, showing us all we needed to know. We liked the place in the countryside, it was beautiful there. The standard was very good with a comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. Everything was very practical. The only minus for us was the breakfast, we had expected a bit more than cake since we were going for a long day's trip and had ordered this place much because of the breakfast.

    Else Victoria2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joy & Burt are absolutely wonderful and host such a lovely space. I needed to get out of the city and their ranch was perfect: peaceful and beautiful. I also wish I had the opportunity to spend more time chatting with them because they are just SUCH lovely people. Funny, hospitable, and kind. There are many spots to explore and enjoy around the area, and the room itself has all you need. The bed is insanely comfortable and the room has so many thoughtful touches. I loved staying here and I am so thankful for Joy & Burt's hospitality.

  • Joy and Burt have really gone above and beyond to create and share their very special corner of the world with those lucky enough to stay here. We felt completely welcome and cared for, as if we were dear friends or family. The unit is truly sparkling clean, well laid out, decorated with Joy's gorgeous art, completely private, and quiet. We had a very peaceful sleep. We would have loved to stay longer and hope to return.

  • Cindy’s place was heavenly. She is a great host and communicator. She knows how to decorate and make a space feel cozy as well as how to managed over 100 acres of beautiful land with horses and doggies! There was a fire going when we got there and we enjoyed sitting by the fire as the evening came as well as watching the sunset from on top of a hill. In the morning, the sun hits the porch just right and if you get up early enough, you can watch the mist rise from the trees as the sun warms the morning dew. All while wearing comfy clothes and sipping coffee :) It was absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking for a place that’s away from city life, this is the perfect escape to nature with the comfort of a cozy space. I would absolutely come back here.

  • Welcome to the farm! What a clean, beautiful, comfortable and peaceful place to spend time. Loved sitting on the porch drinking coffee in the morning sun and enjoying the beautiful peaceful hill views. Gracious hostesses and delicious lemon cake to welcome us. They've thought of everything. All you have to do is relax and enjoy!

    Alice2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the barn! My parents were blown away with the serenity and beauty of the land and property. The space was super clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities one would need. Consider making dinner at the barn vs going out, once you get up there you’ll want to unwind and stay put!

    Kimberly2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Cindy’s place was great! It’s a bit of a steep, gravel road to get to the barn house, but didn’t need 4wd in my pickup. Comfortable stay for a couple and another guest if you don’t mind close sleeping quarters. Everything you need for cooking at home and a bbq outside. Cindy was a great host and would definitely stay again if in the area.

    Nikki2019-10-25T00:00:00Z

Price includes all taxes, cleaning fees and free snacks and drinks. Clean, airy room with private bath and separate entrance, queen bed, microwave, coffeemaker, refrigerator, cable TV and wireless internet. Quiet, peaceful setting in the vineyards.
Beautiful private setting, very quiet. Located on a small horse ranch. Riding lessons are available for an extra charge for those who might be interested in learning natural horsemanship.
Close to the Russian River, vineyard setting. Redwood Valley reminds me of Napa in the 1960s before it got crowded. Beautiful hiking trail to the Russian River, a one mile stroll through the vineyards and forest.

  • My second time here to retreat & get some work done in a QUIET space. Great place, and also nice to walk around the grounds, see the local artwork, and the horses. Highly recommend!

  • I knew Spencer and Esther’s place would be one of the most unique AirBnB stays I’ve ever had just from looking at the pictures. In person it was even better! The bedroom that was converted from a recording studio was fantastic. Since it’s essentially soundproof, we were able to listen to music the entire weekend without worrying about disturbing our hosts. We also gave the piano a try and enjoyed all of the beautiful art surrounding the home. Walking around their yard and watching the horses was very serene. I’d recommend Spencer and Esther’s place to everyone!

    Jelena2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Spencer and Esther offer a wonderful and unique lodging experience. The space is beautiful and interesting and is filled with their cool, sculptural art pieces. Very clean and comfortable, with much attention paid to providing a positive and welcoming guest experience. Quiet, private, and lovely!! Nice folks and an unforgettable space!

    Jeff2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cool spot!!

    Cecelia2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect weekend getaway for my partner and I, who were celebrating our anniversary. I'm an artist, and he works in audio, so the studio was a great space for us to relax and live amongst the art pieces for a couple of days, and just sit and listen to music in the master bedroom's superb sound system. Our favorite experience was getting to play on the grand piano in the main room. I brought my ukulele and we jammed into the wee hours of the night, then fell asleep in the cozy isolation booth. We had a blast!

    Annie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a gem! Each room is lovingly curated and expertly crafted. A one-of-a-kind experience for audiophiles and action-figurine collectors alike.

    Terrence2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Oh what a wonderful experience that was! It felt like we spent the night at a museum. It was clean, unique and lovely. Spacious room and the art around the place is all made by Esther and Spencer. GREAT stay for the price. We already talked about revisiting again with friends because it was too short of a stay.

    Menan2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We all should thank hosts Spence & Esther for sharing this incredible former sound studio with the general public via AirBnB, for being such fantastic hosts! And for creating such a unique and unforgettable experience. We hope to back again some time in the (near) future.

If you wish to spend your stay relaxing or in retreat, we hold space for you to do that as well. Your well-appointed suite was designed by the same Frank Lloyd Wright School architect who designed and built the main house. Our home is perched on top of the highest point west of Highway 101, with vast stunning vistas of elegant Redwood, Fir, Madrone, Manzanita, Oak trees, plus Chaparral and wildflower covered slopes. The Gardens have been a popular feature on charitable garden tours. You are invited to experience off-grid living in a thoroughly modern home with all the amenities. Solar energy pumps our pure and delicious well water, and solar water heating is on the roof. Weather permitting, we heat, cool and cook with solar in addition to pumping our well water, powering lights and appliances. This ranch/retreat is perched on a rocky mountain top in the spectacular coast range wilderness 2.5 hours north of San Francisco. We have 360 degree panoramic views (from your private space too!) of big mountains, forest, and ocean with abundant wildlife and lots of hummingbirds. This is an ideal Nature Lover's, Writer's, Musician's & Painter's spot; perfect for a Birthday, Anniversary, Honeymoon or Special Getaway with your Sweetheart, Best Friend, or Best Traveling Buddy. Terrific home base for visiting Redwoods, Wineries, Festivals, Coast and Hiking Trails all over the County. The Guest Suite, like the entire house, is a bit of an art gallery/museum of our personal travels around the world as anthropologists; and contains a portion of our precious personal reference library. The Suite was built with steel framing - recycled cars - rather than wood, the oak & redwood trim came from down trees on the property, milled on site. The ceiling is redwood, made from the wood of a huge old water tank. The floor is sustainably sourced Oak. The house was designed and built by Thomas F. Bingham, of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. The Guest Suite was designed by Thomas F. Bingham and built by Jay Fraser of Willits. This is a fabulous destination in and of itself. Most visitors settle in and do not leave until their restful stay is over. The acoustics are great for singing and non-amplified musical instruments, hence the many house concerts we have hosted here. A good flashlight is a must for after dark, there are no street lights anywhere, no nearby neighbors. We provide flashlights for you. If you ask, Creek will do a star show for you with his telescope - weather permitting - or you can just relax on the deck after dark, soaking in the vast Milky Way and occasional shooting stars. Definitely bring binoculars if you are into enjoying our terrific birding. Don't forget your camera! Prepare for spectacular Sunrises, and long, lavish, lingering Sunsets where the sun slips into the ocean before your eyes. Wildflowers and stargazing are all superlative. We love spontaneity, so we welcome short notice bookings. Though our retreat is on top of a mountain in the breathtaking California outdoors, we are easier to reach than you may suspect. Our property is only 8 miles from Highway 101, 12 miles from the south end of Willits. It is quite convenient to arrive by a rental or personal car. Don't worry about getting here with a city car - I drive a Prius on the route you will take. The big UPS truck comes here daily. The road from the highway is all paved; except for a short, mostly flat, 1 mile private road from the community gate to our driveway, which is paved in all the tough spots. When you follow the detailed directions we provide, to get to the house, make sure you take the designated road which is all pavement from the highway to the Yellow Gate. Internet is adequate for your getaway vacation. We get our broadband wireless signal from a ridge-top source, 6 air miles to the east of us, line of sight. We are grateful to have the best internet outside of the city limits. Much of this county has little to none, mostly due to the landscape; the forest, the mountains, the canyons, and the small, rural population. As your hosts, we hold space for your goals for this experience. If you wish to interact with us, we are available. If you seek privacy, that's perfect with us as well. For your health and comfort, and that of others, this is a pet/domestic animal-free, non-smoking (everything), firearm-free and drug-free property. Willits (and Ukiah also) has an abundance of excellent restaurants, a book of menus is on your coffee table. It is 25 minutes driving on a mountain road to Willits, so you might seriously consider dining before you arrive, or bringing your dinner - you'll likely not want to leave once you get here, and Willits rolls up the sidewalks at 9 pm. We can easily make the extra refrigerator available for you, especially for longer than overnight stays, so plan on bringing food with you, and sharing our humble country kitchen, if you wish.
Our region was recently voted #3 destination in the world to visit... we are so totally honored! In addition, The Washington Post recently published the findings of a USDA Natural Amenities Scale ranking the most desirable places to live in the United States. Not surprisingiy, Mendocino County and its North Coast neighbors, Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, took three of the five top spots! It is obviously time to take a trip to one of the top places to live in the U.S.! This is a stunningly beautiful rural mountainous region with abundant hidden treasures waiting to be discovered and savored. The peace and quiet, the great outdoors, the fresh air, fresh food, the Giant Redwoods, The Skunk Train, The Wine and Mushroom Festival, the extraordinary Pacific coast ... diversity, friendly people, our first class community theatre, top quality local art, world class concerts, music festivals, award winning wineries, Frontier Days celebration and Rodeo, the July 4th parade, Roots of Motive Power, eclectic shopping ... excellent restaurants, local artists & musicians, farmers markets ... Our two nearby towns are Willits [about 4,900 people] and Ukiah [about 15,000 people]. We are very active in our delightful community, and will love introducing you to the art, music, excellent restaurants, shopping; assist you with your touring and savoring...if you ask us. We have placed menus and local/regional information in your room, as we are proud members of the Chamber of Commerce. Most people here are very well educated, progressive, artistic, genuinely friendly and well-informed. Ask anyone on the street if you are looking for something! Mendocino County is a noted art colony, no wonder - who wouldn't be inspired to create when surrounded by all this beauty! Especially for birders: Fall is migration time for hummingbirds. We have so many here that it astounds us. They return in Mid March to spend the entire summer and early fall with us and their nesting trees. We have observed a Peregrine Falcon at very close range from the house. They are resident here. In Fall the Band Tailed Pigeons return to our garden, sunning themselves in the tall trees, especially in the mornings. Ravens are offering commentary in the afternoons these days and doing some incredible trick flying in full view of the house. They sure have a lot of fun. We also have many nesting songbirds in our gardens, be prepared for their serenades, especially in Spring. We also hear frogs, crickets and owls at night. There is no background noise of the city, or nearby roads, so prepare to sleep well. Without ambient city lights we get very dark skies at night, the moon and stars pop right out at us. The flock of local birdwatchers are reporting lots of amazing birds every moment on our local e-group MendoBirds. Western Tanagers, Varied Thrush, Grosbeaks, Hummingbirds, a number of types of Warblers, Flycatchers, Rufous Sided Towhees, Bewick's Wrens, Stellars & Scrub Jays, Mountain and California Quail, Pileated Woodpeckers are among the many birds nesting in our garden. It seems there is a bird show going on in every tree. Our raven neighbors check on us frequently. Wild Turkeys and Grouse are in the area. We are dedicated birders, and have a fair knowledge of wilderness skills and resources. We have decades of experience living in the wild lands. If you ask, we are happy to share any of our knowledge. "Leave the beaten path and dive into the woods. You are certain to find something interesting." -- Alexander Graham Bell
  • Absolutely stunning views and fantastic hosts. Our stay at Kitty & Creek's place would be one of the most memorable trips. Nothing short of extraordinary.

    Ashwin2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful experience it was to share this space with Kitty and Creek. Their house is one of a kind, with large windows that teleport you into outer space at night and endless rolling mountains during the day. A perfect get away for taking a moment to appreciate all that is. I stayed with my parents for my dad's birthday and as a family of different generations we found the place to suit all our needs, from a library full of books on spirituality and cultures, to a private little kitchen for cooking, to plenty of hikes and gorgeous scenery close by (and on the way to the house). Kitty and Creek's warm welcome and impeccable hospitality was also a highlight of our time here, they are full of light and I was really inspired by their life journeys. They also provided many recommendations for the most beautiful spots in the area and places to eat. Would stay here again!

    Christina2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Loved loved loved the place! Definitely our best Airbnb experience. Both Kitty and Creek are amazing hosts. The place is marvelous! You'll feel you own a home in the clouds.

    Ritwik2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is the best Airbnb I have ever experienced. Kitty & Creek's thoughtful touches and hospitality go way above and beyond expectations. The setting is breathtaking, on top of a mountain surrounded by nature. The place itself is well-stocked and comfortable. These hosts are all about making sure you have the best experience possible. Highly recommend staying here and be sure to make time to socialize with Kitty & Creek. They are part of a wonderful local community, and that helpful vibe resonates throughout the property. Go for a walk up to Lion Rock, star gaze on the deck, or stay cozy inside your private suite. 10/10 would stay again :)

  • This was such a wonderful stay! Kitty and Creek were gracious hosts. They gave us great recommendations of things to do locally and made us feel very comfortable in their home. We truly did have an entire wing of the home to ourselves which felt very private and comfortable. I could talk all day about the beautiful views and the home itself but what I REALLY appreciated was all the little touches. We’ve stayed in places before with just the bare minimum of amenities and I always hate that feeling, because it feels like a hotel without being able to call the front desk to ask for more towels. Kitty and Creek had SOOO many wonderful small touches that made it feel like home. Extra extra EXTRA pillows, blankets, phone chargers, towels, electric outlets, slippers and even super fluffy cozy robes. The little kitchenette had an electric kettle, a coffee maker, a French press, a microwave, a refrigerator with a small freezer inside, snacks, tea, etc etc etc. You can tell they really understand what makes a comfortable stay. Just one caution to keep in mind, the windows don’t have blinds on them but don’t worry about privacy because the only thing looking in at you is beautiful expansive nature. But do keep it in mind if you plan on having a late night because there is no way to block out the sun. This wasn’t a problem for my husband and I as we have a pretty normal sleep/wake cycle and enjoyed the early morning views but I do remember having late nights with him when we were younger so I wanted to let others know. The room is western facing though so you won’t have the sun directly beaming in first thing and it provided breathtaking sunset views! Thank you again for having us! It was an absolute pleasure :)

Quiet mountain retreat, nestled high in the hills overlooking Redwood Valley on one side and a meadow and pond on the other. Swim and raft on the pond or just watch the fish. Meditate at Abhayagiri Monastery, enjoy the wildlife on 116 wooded acres, hike the headwaters of the Russian River, or just relax in front of the Franklyn fireplace (the heat for the cabin).
The cabin has a large redwood paneled living room with a Franklyn fireplace (the heat for the cabin) and a dining area with a view down the valley. The cabin sleeps 4 (or more with futons). It has a small bedroom with double bed and a bed in the living room that can be pulled out to make 2 twin beds or 1 king-size bed. It has a full kitchen and bathroom. It’s a rustic country cabin. Not a prim B&B, but I like it a lot. It has a deck on the east side looking across the valley. The deck is shaded by big oaks in the summer and the leaves fall off to let in the sun in winter.
Redwood Valley is a rural town about 20 minutes from the cabin. In town there is a little market, a nice bar, a mexican restaurant, and a gas station. For more options and conveniences, Ukiah is a 30 minutes from the cabin. Plan your trip accordingly and pick up supplies on your way. We are just across the road from Abhayagiri Monastery (Thai Buddhist) where I like to go on Sunday afternoon at 2 for the Dharma talk and meditation. Mendocino County has many wonderful places to explore. Montgomery Redwoods and it's neighbor, Orr Hot Springs. Look into it if this sounds interesting to you! You must book in advance to bathe in these fabulous springs so call a few days ahead. Vichy Springs in town is also great. In addition, make an appointment for wine tasting at Frey Vineyards, open Monday-Friday. Please call them at least a week in advance.
  • Nice simple cabin, great views. Great staying here again

  • What a lovely cabin. Just what I needed for a nice quiet get away to reflect ahead of the new year.

  • This cabin was beautiful and serene. Spectacular views. Great for anyone looking to get away for a few days.

  • This place is amazingly relaxing. My friend and I came up to meditate because it is close the Monestary, and the cabin's location make it a perfect spot for the practice. Highly recommended!

  • This place is heaven! Got back in Paris, checking the pictures of the 3 days we got there and can’t believe I am living in the city! You will love it if you love wildlife!

  • Beautiful escape. We loved everything about this place! We hope to come back soon!

    Ameera2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • It's a cabin as described! If you want a get-away without interruption and to not be prim and proper it's a great choice. The road getting up there is a little rough, I wouldn't drive a car that's low to the ground FYI

    Fitz2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place to escape the craziness of everyday life! Sitting high on a hill, overlooking Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery and a beautiful view of Redwood Valley below, the cabin offers everything you need for a long, peaceful stay! We enjoyed mornings and evenings on the back deck, blackberry picking and watching a doe & her fawn grazing near the pond. We were 4 minutes away from the monastery, and had a cell phone signal through AT&T, which were huge pluses. The 1 mile dirt road to the cabin was a little steep & rough in spots, but our Subaru Outback handled it just fine! We hope to be able to rent it again during our next visit to the monastery!

  • This is a magical place! Lovely and charming. Comfortable with fantastic views! Not to mention a wonderful pool!

  • The pictures don’t do this place justice. We had an incredible stay in Maria’s darling home over the Fourth of July holiday. The wrap around porch is cozy and sweet, the view spectacular, the pool deep and inviting, the daybed perfect for a mid- afternoon snooze, and there’s plenty of space for indoor or outdoor dining. The working vineyard was gorgeous and the flower garden was impeccable. Maria was kind, knowledgeable, and made sure we felt welcome. You can tell that this is a house that had many many happy memories, and invites you to make some of your own while you’re there as well.

Super Private Custom Built Home on 388 acres. This is a one-of-a-kind vacation rental because of the privacy and the large piece of property that is yours to explore. The house is a beautiful custom built home in an idyllic setting.
This is a one-of-a-kind vacation rental because of the the large piece of property (388 acres) that is yours to use and explore. The house is a beautiful custom built home with hardwood cherry floors, two large redwood decks, four bedrooms and two baths, a family room, living room, dining room and is in one of the most beautiful locations that you can imagine. Located in the redwood belt you can enjoy miles of trails along cascading streams and little waterfalls that run through fern covered redwood forests. Swim in the pond, bike or hike along the trails. Lay out in the hot tub at night and watch the stars in the crystal clear skies. The quietness of the property is truly amazing and is like nothing you will find anywhere else. Have a quiet family reunion in one of the most beautiful pieces of property that you will ever visit. The custom built house was our home at one time and has many homelike qualities. There is a large play set for the children and a gas barbeque for entertaining. A beautiful creek runs past the front of the house and two ponds are on the property. One of the ponds is only 100 feet from the house. There are numerous species of wildlife including hawks, owls, pond turtles, river otters, and great blue herons to name a few. There are two decks, one is covered and faces the pond and the other faces a meadow with 250 year old oak trees. The kids can pitch a tent in the adjacent meadows and explore the forests and creeks while you lay in the hammock among the oak trees. This rental is as close to a wilderness adventure as you can get without actually having to rough it.

  • Thank you so much! The beautiful place and amazing nature, great service. We are so excited about our choice!

  • A beautiful property for a lovely weekend! The house had enough space for our group of 16, with some of us setting up our own mattresses in the common areas. The kitchen is well-stocked, and there are personal touches everywhere. The hot tub was great and gets really hot. The surrounding land is beautiful - there's a loop trail that takes you around the forest.

    Lucy2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing. We absolutely loved the private quiet nature of the place. The house was larger than we expected, very clean with open spaces to hang out. The spa was amazing in the rain. The beds were large and comfortable. The surrounding property on a rainy day is one of the most beautiful environments I’ve ever seen. We were completely satisfied with everything about this vacation location and experience. I could go on and on about this one. Without question an experience I will never forget. We loved it and thank you for sharing. (Also fun to be off the grid). Our stay was during a nasty storm that caused lots of issues for other people but certainly not for us. Disk golf on the property is a real thing. So much fun!

  • Art's cabin in the woods is what I expect when I Airbnb. This is someone's beloved home, with all the personal touches of many summers spent there... the family photos, the books, the mementos that speak of those who love it there, the big pots that will feed a crowd. It is five miles off of Highway 20 on a beautiful, sometimes very bumpy country road. It is cozy, spacious house which fit our three families perfectly! I would love to see it n the dead of winter and then again in spring and summer. Thank you Art!

    Jackie2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for a weekend getaway with 5 adults and 4 kids. Art's place worked perfectly for our needs. The property provided a ton of space for the kids to play outside and run around. It was incredibly beautiful and serene. Felt like a great getaway in all the ways. We hope to stay again next year. We highly recommend.

  • Fantastic disconnect from the city. Sincerely best location if you want peace, quiet, and seclusion. Some folks went for a hike and realized quickly how serene the area is. Loved the sitting areas all around for everyone to still be able to have individual time. Such a fantastic rental. Seriously, the best rental I've ever used on Airbnb. Art is the best host also with his attentiveness, clarity, and sincere care to help make any stay amazing.

Four miles down a winding dirt road, you can sleep in a log cabin studio under towering redwoods. Fall asleep to the sound of the creek and nothing more. There's no internet or cell service at the cabin (but if you walk up an oak and redwood forest hill you can get a bit of signal). Sometimes rustic is exactly what you need. Please plan to arrive in daylight hours to get your bearings.
In the studio there is a full size pullout futon, as well as a twin size futon chair. Upstairs are more beds - a queen, a full, and two twins. Explore 200 acres of wild forest. Build a bonfire (in the winter). Jump on the trampoline. Observe newts in the creek. We invite you to stay somewhat unplugged for your stay, in terms of appliances, since our off-grid power situation is not robust in the winter. We have lights and a stove with oven, a gas heater, a woodstove, and running water (including hot water). Please no smoking in the dry season. It's a fire hazard.
    Our neighbors are trees!

Relaxing views of the pond below await you. A roomy bed, quiet atmosphere and clean air ready when you are. Good nutritious food carefully prepared according to your dietary needs starts your day off right. No smoking/No pets/No exceptions.
We are off the beaten path, three miles up a dirt/gravel road. We have a pretty room up in Northern California, in a private country style home with lovely views - perfect for one couple, the room is not large enough for two separate beds. The bedroom overlooks a small pond and mountain ranges beyond. Includes a home-cooked, fresh and organic breakfast - bring your own coffee, we serve our own and others' teas. You may prepare your other meals in our kitchen - be aware that on weekends the kitchen is jamming with preparation for our farmers market , and the market takes over:) the refrigerator, the counters...may not always be as clear, tidy and navigable as you would like them to be. I recommend staying during the week, or in the middle of the week for the best attention. Speaking of "The Space" the best part of our place is everything outside of the house; the trails, the mountains, the ponds and seasonal waterfalls! Come here to relax and unwind, not stay in a five star hotel, unless that is what you want and this is not that! :) We are friendly, serve great food fresh from our garden, and as accommodating as we sustainably can be. We are close to many vineyards. 2 1/4 hours drive from San Francisco, and 1 1/2 hours from the Pacific Ocean. Near to Montgomery Woods State Park, Orr Hot Springs and the Blue Lakes. This is a working farm, and weekends are our busiest time beginning with Fridays. This means that things may look untidy at times despite the fact that we clean often and regularly. Your room and bathroom will be very clean and tidy- we don't get ready for the farmers market there :) That said during heavy market times the refrigerator is brimming with vegetables complete with farm fresh garden dirt (if my husband hasn't given them a rinse):) Best times to visit us are during the week, it is quieter, we're more available and it is really relaxing. So if you can roll with boxes of veggies and fruit and food fresh picked and cooked for you, you'll really enjoy being here! Seasonal waterfalls are currently flowing! :) (mostly in the winter/rainy season January - March). Please note: We are solar powered and off-grid. We ask that our guests be sensitive to this and be conservative minded. Warm showers are best in the afternoon and evening hours. All the food we prepare is organic. Let us know your special dietary requirements and we'll do our best to accommodate you. We are minutes away from Highway 101 yet you will think you are much further away from civilization when you are here. It is very peaceful.
Peace and quiet await you. We love the oak savannah terrain, the great neighbors and considering that it is a wildlife area, it is reasonably close to the highway, seventeen minutes because we are on a three mile dirt/gravel road. Our place is best for folks looking to stay somewhere, hike and relax, to forget about driving and just dive into the natural surroundings. We do have some great local restaurants; Mario's and the Broiler and in town in Ukiah, many other choices!

Off the beaten path, up a three mile dirt and gravel road, at 2150' elevation and situated near a great hiking hill. Mountain views, good food, and happy hosts await you! 20 minutes from Hwy. 101 and Route 20. Near Orr Hot Springs and Montgomery Woods State Reserve, 40-45 minute drive. No smoking. No pets. Compost toilet in cabin, regular toilet, shower and bath in the main house for your use. Perfect getaway for eco travelers, away from city lights. Good star gazing skies. Seasonal pond.
Great escape from the City, far from the crowd, yet close enough to civilization. (Highways 101 and 20) Off grid, relaxing cabin with beautiful views. Great for one couple or just one person looking to get away, meditate, walk, write, or just think! Quiet. Let the land speak to you. Smoke free environment. House, cabin and entire property. Our cabin has an upstairs loft with a desk and chair. The main room - the first floor of the cabin has a memory foam bed that can be converted into a daybed, and wood stove. In the cooler months we have folks sleep on the bed downstairs. This is a wildlife area, lots of deer, rabbits, coyotes, birds et cetera, so you may wish to bring your binoculars. A warm shower, or bath and toilets are in the main house just a few steps away from the cabin. There are many walking trails on the land and we are near Montgomery Woods State Park and Orr Hot Springs. During the winter and rainy season, there are waterfalls on the property. Breakfast and optional (additional cost) other meals are served in the main house. Food is made from food organically grown on our farm. Enjoy local foods prepared healthfully and with lots of love! ***Ask about our great escape specials with dinner! Because we are off-grid and energy conservation is important, we request a minimum of two nights stay. Thank you. Hosts are two creative individuals who teach, paint, compose music and farm. You can enjoy your private getaway with no hassles. The space is used for an art studio when there are no guests, so you can expect to see art works and art supplies packed away here. Also sculpture. We have two rescue dogs, a McNab (Border Collie mixed breed) named Mars, a Blue Heeler named Raisin, and three barn cats, all rescues. Mars and Raisin will probably want to take walks with you :) A wonderful retreat for your heart and soul. Stay for the weekend, a week, a month or longer!
I love the views of the neighboring farms, and vineyards. I also enjoy walking along our paths to our ponds. There are some very fun trails that lead to old time ranch roads.

  • My husband and I had an awesome time staying at Jaye and Bill's place! Bill and Jaye are amazing hosts! Both of them go out of their way to make sure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Jaye is a true artist and her art shows through in her cooking as well. Loved reading her book, and seeing her artwork :) Bill showed us around their farm explaining different varieties. All their fresh fruits and vegetables were so delicious! We specially loved the apples, they were yum! Fresh produce coupled with Jaye's fantastic cooking, we were happily full! :) The cabin itself was nice and cozy. Jaye and Bill had gratefully kept it warm before we arrived. :) Jaye had sent out spot on instructions on how to get to their place, which was very useful! It is beautifully located on top of hill with stunning views. We loved the trails nearby to the pond and to waterfall! All in all, it was wonderful 2 days of yummy food, great conversations, and a total relaxing time!

  • Jaye and her husband were amazing hosts. They made us feel right at home and didn't spare any effort to make us feel comfortable. We got to enjoy their garden, learned about all kinds of plants. Jaye is an artist so we also talked about art. Jaye's husband is an avid amateur astronomer so he set up his telescope for us and we all hang out at night to watch Mars and Jupiter and its moons. The cabin is cozy and spacious and the beds are comfy. The food is amazing too! Jaye puts a lot of her art into making food (using her solar oven) so we got to taste a lot of new flavors. Over all, it is really a unique experience that made us think about going off the grid too :)

  • Jaye and Bill are great folks! And my girlfriend and I loved staying with them over the long Valentines weekend! Very thoughtful and conscientious in the way they accommodated my girlfriend and I, Jaye and Bill were both very communicative from the moment we scheduled our stay to the moment we left their beautiful, expansive farm. Jaye and Bill were deliberate about making sure our arrival and departure times were synced up, they allowed us access to their farmhouse whenever we needed to enter the kitchen for snacks or the shower, and they cooked us delicious meals, including complimentary breakfasts. The food they prepared was all fresh and local, straight from their farm. On a personal note, Jaye and Bill are also very self-aware, interesting artists, and so were great conversationalists, and provided for a wonderful meeting of the minds for my girlfriend and I, as we're also artists and musicians. The cabin itself is rustic, yet spacious, and very cozy. I would highly recommend both the cabin, and Jaye and Bill's company to any low key, kind-hearted artists wanting to visit the country for a weekend!

  • This bit of heaven is a fabulous find for those who are looking for a truly "off the grid" experience with a bit of flair. Not fancy, but everything done with total love. The food from the garden is not to be missed and the hospitality provided by Jaye and Bill is first class. We'd rather stay here than a sterile 5-star carbon-polluting, people-oppressing resort. But if sustainable organic farming and eco-friendly living isn't your thing, probably you'd prefer the Comfort Inn down in Ukiah! What they don't tell you on their listing is that the views are spectacular and the pond swimming is just the most refreshing moment you can imagine. Ask Bill to point his telescope at some fascinating heavenly body and you won't be disappointed! We saw Jupiter and Venus in conjunction, with Saturn's moons right next to the moon. and then a double-double star system.

  • Phenomenal!!! My boyfriend and I live in two different large cities and we really wanted to get away and off the grid! We had such a lovely time with Bill and Jaye, they are welcoming, inspiring, and extremely sweet. They made us wonderful food, seriously you have to try everything they make it is all fresh and delicious!! There are amazing trails, ponds, and there is a small town just down the road as well!! If you are looking for a get away and want to be surrounded by astonishing nature, then this is the place!!! Thank you so much!!

  • What a beautiful place to stay! Up a gravel road on a rolling property full of majestic oaks and sunshine, this compact cabin was just enough space for our extended family of 4 (3 adults, 1 kid), but would be spacious for a couple or a family with small kids. Jaye and Bill are wonderful hosts -- passionate artists, musicians, and gardeners. Their salad mix is like nothing I've ever eaten -- an unexpected mix of flowers, herbs, lettuce, and other greens that needs no dressing. Delicious! And the wild, local salmon dinner we enjoyed there was a great deal. Plan to spend an evening looking at the stars, as you can see the Milky Way clearly on a moonless night. Kids will enjoy chasing lizards and a swing hanging from an oak next to the cabin. Our 6 year-old son loved this place. He was hesitant about taking a country holiday "away from my friends", but within 1 day he was asking how long we could stay, as he wanted to keep chasing lizards, stargazing, and going on adventures with the dogs. FYI -- he was great at climbing the ladder to the loft, but personally, I'd be nervous about younger kids climbing the ladder. Luckily there is a nice futon downstairs, too, if you've got littler ones.

    Danielle2014-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • In another life Jaye and Bill would have been innkeepers in New Hampshire! This wonderful couple were such delightful hosts. Between their hilarious stories, tremendous knowledge of the region and more than expected hospitality, they made our stay truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Both Jaye and Bill are wonderful chefs and I do not think I have ever eaten as healthy as I did for those three days as I ever ever in my life. If you are looking for an adventure that will make your friends at green with envy, I suggest booking this cabin! Besides playing amateur innkeeper, Jaye is an ingenious artist who should be showcasing her works in galleries all across the world. Maybe one day she will let us buy a piece from her! Thank you so much Jaye and Bill!! We wish you the best of the luck and lots and lots of rain!
