Originally referred to as “the gaily-colored head of the island” by sailors, Gay Head (Aquinnah) is the western-most town on Martha’s Vineyard rightly famous for its National Landmark lighthouse and multi-colored clay cliffs. A trip to the cliffs is surely a treat and on good days, views of the Elizabeth Islands (including Cuttyhunk) and towns as far away as Newport, Rhode Island are visible to the naked eye.

A Prime Piece of the Otherwise Private North Shore. The 300 plus acres of the Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary, a Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation property, include a dramatic point of shoreline, where the tide rips and the fish bite. (No swimming allowed at this beach, by the way). But it’s much more than a rare access point to the north shore. There are rocks and trees and plants and things, there are ponds and trails and views.

Getting around

The Vineyard is an island accessible only by boat or plane.

The ferry takes both passengers and cars. Our “Oakhaven” vacation rental is nearest to the Vineyard Haven ferry. To get your car to the Island you will need to make a ferry reservation on the website: www.steamshipauthority.com. For passengers without cars there are taxis, Uber, car and bike rentals located near the terminal. Our property is located in West Tisbury on 3 beautiful, wooded acres. The bike path is a half-mile from the driveway. The house has a private driveway with ample parking. The entire guesthouse is for your use alone.
