My dishes honor the tradition of the orixás—the spirits representing nature's forces in Candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion. • We’ll begin with a tribute to Oshun, the goddess of love and beauty, as sacred rhythms performed by an Ogã help set the tone for a warm, spiritual experience. • Next, we’ll enjoy a refreshing drink while we learn how Afro-Brazilian cuisine connects tradition, spirituality, and storytelling. • After our brief history lesson, I’ll guide you as we prepare a dish that harkens back to Candomblé tradition, using ingredients rich in history and symbolism. In this live DJ set and workshop, you’ll experience the evolution of Rio’s rhythms and explore how funk has bumped up against—and helped to shape—the city’s history. • We’ll get down to some of the most iconic beats from Rio’s rich musical heritage. • We’ll listen for diasporic rhythms and how they combine with other elements of the music to help tell the city’s story. • We’ll learn how Black musicians and music lovers have responded to—and triumphed over—urban reforms and other efforts to silence them. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Rio’s rhythms and the people who continue to shape them—and with an exclusive print that unlocks a playlist of the music you’ve heard. *The minimum number of participants for the workshop is four. If this number is not reached, the workshop will be rescheduled.

Lapa By Night

Let's get to know Lapa neighborhood and enjoy Caipirinhas, Samba and all the local nightlife! First we go to the famous Selarón Steps, then we pass under the Lapa Arches. We follow to visit Cachaça House, and taste a shot of handmade Cachaça. After that we can enjoy a "Roda de Samba" (Live Samba Circle), in a very traditional bar with a Caipirinha drink included! We finish in a Nightclub with a great DJ, playing lots of brazilian and international music.

The world's most beautiful libraries

In this experience we'll visit the world's most beautiful libraries! Rio de Janeiro has a lot of history e wonderful buildings and holds two amazing historical public libraries downtown: the National Library, created in 1814 by the portuguese King D. João VI with the 60.000 books the Royal Family brought from Portugal, and the Royal Portuguese Office of Reading, created in 1838 by a group of portuguese meritorians. Our tour starts at the Cinelândia Square. Where we can learn about the history of Rio de Janeiro and understand all the changes we did on architecture and geography through the years. Our first stop is the National Library, one of the ten biggest libraries in the world, the biggest in South America. It was built in 1909 and holds more than 9 million books!! After this we gonna walk around downtown, learning about the history and architecture of the city and visiting some nice book shops! Our last stop is the Royal Portuguese Office of Reading, with an amazing portuguese neogothic architecture from 1888, that holds the biggest collection of portuguese books outside Portugal, with more than 350 thousand books.

Get to know the Little Africa in Rio de Janeiro

You'll get to know the city area called Little Africa, located in the port area, which was recently revitalized. We will take a three-hour walk and you will get to know important points such as Pedra do Sal, Morro da Conceição, Largo da Prainha and Jardim Suspenso do Valongo. This experience can also be carried out by my team of guides specialized in Afro Turismo: Luana Ferreira, Kelly Tavares, Eddie Vander, Raquel or Ryane. It will guide you through the paths of Little Africa with great enthusiasm and passion. Ryane was born in the German favela and loves to tell people about her personal experience as a slum and connect with the History of Little Africa. Bring a water bottle and use sunscreen. Visit the Historical and Cultural City Center

We will visit the main tourist attractions in downtown Rio de Janeiro, learning more about the city's history, local culture, and social issues. Your guide, besides having specialized training, has lived in the city since birth and closely follows the recent processes of urban transformation caused by both major events and changes in government. The tour will provide a local perspective on the controversies present in Brazil's main tourist capital. After all, is the city marvelous? From an aesthetic point of view, there is no doubt. But what can we say regarding the dynamics of social relations and their impacts on the urban organization of downtown? We will explore three major regions: Lapa, the Business District and the Port Area. Along the way, we will pass by landmarks such as the Selarón Staircase, Municipal Theater, Portuguese Reading Room, Colombo Cafe, Imperial Chapel, Bank of Brasil Art Center, Olympic Boulevard, Museum of the Future, among others. During the walk, we will encounter buildings that are true icons of Rio's architecture, but also bars, graffiti, occupations, and streets that hold within them the untold history found in books. Thus, each tour is a unique experience as the city constantly transforms itself.

Backstreet bar-hopping & Brazilian tapas

We'll meet up in a lively bar in Lapa for a few drinks and some of Rio's famously delicious bar food. After visiting an ancient 'hole-in-the-wall' cachaça bar, we'll either head up into the North Zone or to Santa Teresa - in either case, we'll visit a couple of awesome little locals' bars. In each place we visit we'll have drinks - caipirinhas, locally brewed beers, cachaças and 'batidas' - as well as more food: traditional bar food snacks (think: Brazilian tapas) plus more substantial dishes. We'll visit gritty locals' bars and some fancier places too. Towards the end of the tour we'll return to the liveliest part of Lapa (packed full of bars, restaurants and samba clubs), or to a street samba event near the Port Zone. Here we'll finish up with a final drink and the guide will help you decide on the perfect follow-up activity, whether it be a bar, a samba club or just a taxi back to your hotel :) Other things to note: This tour focuses on traditional Brazilian drinking (and eating) culture, so it doesn't really work for people who only drink wine. Please come hungry and thirsty!
