The Ericeira World Surfing Reserve is a world-class surf zone encompassing approximately 8 km of coastline. It contains a high density of outstanding surf breaks, including iconic breaks such as Ribeira d’Ilhas and Coxos, among others. “It is a homage to all local fishermen that over the centuries have respected and praised this beautiful ocean. It is also an assumption of the responsibility for its preservation, making sure that this valuable universal heritage will continue to be enjoyed in its entirety by future generations, just as it was for the pioneers of surf in Portugal, who were awed by its discovery.” A vibrant marine ecosystem, an established yet burgeoning surf culture, and a community centered around ocean pursuit and enjoyment are the perfect setting for successful management of coastal resources. The Ericeira World Surfing Reserve Local Stewardship Council seeks to maintain and guarantee the healthy marine abundance of local waters and foster the continued responsible enjoyment of local coastlines for all users.

Coxos is one of the best waves in Portugal and Europe. This powerful right point/reef break is famous for its amazing barrels and only accessible for experienced surfers. It works best with mid to low tide, but be aware of the sea urchins and the tricky entry/exit. It can handle very big waves.

Visite a praia dos Coxos... quer a zona sul quer a zona norte. Local extraordinário para fazer surf, mas também para pesca de cana ou pesca submarina e claro para uns bons mergulhos no mar. Pode optar por fazer uma caminha ao entardecer pelas arribas até à Praia da Ribeira d'Ilhas.
