“We had a beautiful stay at Runnymeade B&B over the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend. We arrived to a spotlessly clean and gorgeously decorated cottage (converted barn). Gilly, the resident owner, made us feel very welcome and provided us with a lovely spread of tea, coffee and breakfast goodies. The view across the valley and up the mountains is calming and restorative. Unfortunately, it was a little too chilly to sit out on the deck for any length of time but luckily the electric heating made the cottage very cosy and we had a restful night sleep. On day two we toured the town with the highlights being the Micheal Reid Gallery (excellent coffee and great art), Darcy and the Fox Gallery (even got to see the new work David Darcy is contemplating as his entry into the 2020 Archibald) and a hamburger (The Works) at Nelliebellies (one of the best ever!). After a few hours of strolling through the lovely township we decided to drive to Quirindi to source something for dinner to have at Runnymeade (the White Hart pub on first night was fine but we weren’t enamoured enough to go back again and unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough to get a booking at Crave Bistro, award winning steak house, at Willow Tree). Quirindi is a short 25 minute drive toward Tamworth from Murrurundi. I was enchanted by the big sky and the lengthy coal trains and was very happy to see the result of some good rain earlier in the year. Quirindi is a very historic town with immaculately maintained buildings but unfortunately almost everything was shut by 2.30pm on a Sunday so there wasn’t much to do. We ended up driving back toward Murrurundi and having coffee and cake at the Plains Pantry at Willow Tree. We can highly recommend the apple slice and lemon cake with thyme icing – yum! A very good place for foodies with most of the produce and pantry items sourced locally. All in all a terrific weekend.”
We are ideally situated for those who need to break their journey. We are approximately an 7 1/2 hour drive from Brisbane and 4 1/2 hours from Sydney and we are located 2 minutes off the New England Highway. It is a quiet, fully self contained, air conditioned cottage with a large bedroom, separate bathroom, lounge and fully equipped kitchen, situated in a quiet rural environment. There is a local pub which serves evening meals 7 days a week, plus a local café, both within walking distance.
“Arrived much later than expected on our motorbike ride. Jill was very accommodating with the place heated for us. The decor was beautifully done to every detail and had everything we needed. There was even some soup in the fridge which we appreciated as arrived so late. Fascinating to enjoy the All Black memorabilia from Grants days playing for the All Blacks. Beautiful garden and outlook. We loved the experience 🙏”
My home is very comfortable with reverse cycle air conditioning. I am within walking distance of the town centre. Close to RSL, gym, I have a small friendly dog.
“My room was very clean and comfortable, and Carol welcomed me into her home. I was able to help myself to tea and coffee, and breakfast in the morning. It was a wonderful stay, better than sitting alone in a motel room at night on my own!”
