Because there were many guests, I left questions from people, and I repeatedly sent Tomoko, the owner, to ask questions, but they responded politely/quickly every time, and they were very kind. I sometimes called you as an emergency on the day of my stay, but you immediately called and responded with a gentle voice. You are a very trustworthy and nice owner. It was a very satisfying stay for everyone who stayed!

ゲストハウス かなで Guest House KANADE 【Room B】

There’s a parking lot for a few cars or vans. Staff was friendly and made sure a smooth checkin. Great for the price. It’s an old Japanese house so the walls are extremely thin, if there’s other guests you can hear someone walking at night. A bit cold during winter but they give you enough blankets.

Niigata, Traditional wooden townhouses(Machiya) #3

If you want to get a feel for small town life in Japan, then this is a great place. The hosts are incredibly invested in their community and will go above and beyond to introduce to the locals. Although as a 6'2" African American person, I tended to stand out, hehe. The space is located in a "shotengai" shopping area which means, like most shotengai, the area has seen better days economically. So unfortunately there are not a lot of restaurants in walking distance open throughout the day. That said, once I figured out the "Go" app, I could order a taxi, even registering with my US phone number, and could get around. I recommend visiting the Kikusui Sake brewery - best tour and really cool artifact library. Final note: Be prepared to use the public bath as there is no bath/shower. But that is just one more way to get to know the local community. Overall a great experience to stay here.

The place is like entering the side street, which is apparently difficult to understand, but on the contrary, it was good that it felt private.
