In recent years, the hostel has been popular as a filming spot, and is located on the front approach to Chichibu Shrine (Banba Street), which is dotted with Showa-era retro buildings. The nearest station, Miyahata station, and Chichibu Shrine are both within a 3-minute walk. On the first floor, there is also the official tap bar for Chichibu barley beer, and Mahoro Bar, which offers a variety of regional craft beers and snacks such as homemade Musashibuta sausages, and Kuchina Salve, a famous restaurant serving Italian cuisine made with local Chichibu ingredients. The chef grows vegetables, harvests wheat, and takes care of chickens, all with a commitment to organic. Free parking for 4 cars is available. It is a 9-minute walk from Hachioji Station on the Tobu Tojo Line. Since it is a private rental, we can only allow 1-2 people to stay for up to 7 consecutive nights. Long-term stays are possible for 3 or more people. Please use it for sightseeing such as Nagatoro, Chichibu, and Ikuno, or for work. You will have the entire first floor of a rural house to yourselves.

Welcome to Richard Flavin's Washi House! Richard Flavin (1943–2020) was a Japanese paper artist originally from the US. He studied design in Boston and came to Japan in 1970. He later studied woodblock printing and developed a deep interest in the production of washi. He also cultivated the raw material for washi paper, paper mulberry. We invite those interested in washi paper and art to stay overnight and enjoy this space, reminiscent of a washi paper museum, including these unfinished areas.
