“Monica is a great host. The house is magnificent in the perfect spot high up on a hill with lovely sunset. House is set on the perfect side of the hill. A car rental is needed to go up to the house or visit neighbouring areas. On the way up to the house there is a large supermarket to buy groceries. There is a great Pizzeria called La Bionda and they also do deliveries. Its a perfect holiday for a relaxing weekend in total relaxation.”
The Olives' Terrace a apartment forming part of an ancient Villa dating 1500 in the charming village of Benabbio set amid olive groves and chestnut woods, a few km from Bagni di Lucca, which is renowned for its thermal waters and the old Casino.
“If you are up for an adventure in an unforgettable location this is the place for you! We spent four days in Benabbio and the drive is not for the faint of heart, however after several days we kind of got used to the hairpin turns and drop offs! The scenery is gorgeous and it’s so far off the beaten path you will lose the feeling of tourist overload like so many of the main stops in Italy. Come prepared with an Italian phrase book as the cellular connection is not reliable everywhere and most people do not speak English. Maria Elena is a wonderful hostess. The accommodations are authentic to the region so not modern but fairly comfortable. The house lacks natural lighting and the only view is from the bathroom which is not a problem if the weather is nice, but can be disappointing if you are stuck inside due to rain or illness (like I was). Overall we loved our stay and would visit again. We highly recommend a day in Lucca! One of our favorite stops in Italy.”

“Amazing place - like a castle in the sky. The train comes to Bagni Di Lucca but a car is necessary to drive the 7km up a narrow road to Gionata’s place. It’s worth it. The serenity was just what we needed and the views stunning. Generous rooms, lots of nooks, eating and relaxing options inside and outside. Old world charm with everything you could want. You will need to self-cater if you don’t want to drive for meals. Gionata was extremely helpful via messaging, and his mum gave us a very detailed in-person rundown (in Italian) on the facilities and family history on check-in. Highly recommended.”
