“You've heard about these places, and this is it. A luxurious stay on a working farm in a mountaintop village with only one street, too narrow for cars. The view is snow-covered mountains of the Dolomites, and below, the valley farmed by Geoff. Two sides of the village are real cliffs. A pilgrimage route came through here, traversing ridges for safety, avoiding valleys, stopping at the church, built like a fortress. Geoff grows a wide variety of products, chosen for rarity, like spelt and kiwis. Mountaintop land is more productive than valley land, he told me, because overall it has a milder climate. He has gradually acquired more and more farm land, and is converting several houses into rentals for groups. Conversion is not easy as you can imagine, with all new utilities, windows, doors, insulation, floors, bathrooms, kitchens, roofs, the list goes on. Geoff tells stories, pick any subject, he has a story, which usually has a point to it, something he learned and is passing along. Dinner and breakfast were prepared, for a modest fee. Home grown where possible. One of the next groups will focus on food growing and preparation. Once arrived, I had no inclination to go back down into the valley, a slow descent, in first and second gear, any number of blind hairpin turns. Most of the way is a two lane road, much better than Ireland where I'd just come from. A jewel.”
In the ancient village of Fornovolasco, near the Grotta del Vento, in the park of the Apuan Alps, a recently refurbished two-room apartment in a building dating back to 1733, which was originally used as a bakery for the village of Fornovolasco. For lovers of nature, relaxation and walks. Ideal base point for excursions in the area of the Apuan Alps.
“Great accommodation for two people, kitchen served with lots of crockery and everything you need to prepare lunch and dinner. Grocery stores can be found in the nearby town of Gallicano. Excellent excursions for walks on trails 6 and 12 and to the Grotta del Vento. Chat with the locals who tell you the history of the village and book lunch / dinner at La Trattoria in La Buca, excellent genuine dishes! Thanks for everything: Larysa and Francesco excellent hosts!”

“We had such a great stay at Olivia’s place! A real local vibe in the middle of the mountains in the very pretty (very local) village of Coreglia Antelminelli. The apartment was lovely and the views incredible, we were pleased to be the only visitors which meant we had the hot tub to ourselves! Olivia was great and helpful before, during and after and gave us some great tips. We particularly liked the local towns of Lucca and Barga, and enjoyed the vineyard (podere concorri) and the caves (grotta del vento) but wouldn’t really recommend the beach town via reggio. Definitely recommend Olivia’s place if you are after a relaxing weekend away!”
