Your blacksmithing adventure will include three hours of hands on instruction as you create your very own masterpiece. Your experience will start with a brief orientation to The Forge at Quiver Full Farm. During this orientation time we will make sure each participant is dressed and prepared with all necessary equipment to have a SAFE forging experience. We will be working with equipment that reach temperatures greater than 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. This experience requires participants to be attentive and be able to physically exert themselves. We will have all participants sign a safety liability waiver before starting. If you are under 18 years of age you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate. Jeremy will introduce you to all of the equipment that you will be using while creating your forged piece. He will give detailed and guided instruction on how to use these tools. From there you will choose one of four projects to create. Jeremy will be there to guide you, assist you, and maintain a safe working environment while you create your masterpiece. • Canoe the river to local craft breweries
Recipe for a perfect day: Floating down an ancient river, cooling your toes in the water, laughing with good friends... all within reach of award-winning breweries serving up fresh craft beverages and tasty treats. We start by meeting near Asheville's River Arts District, where your canoeing gear and friendly guide await. Canoe on a navigable but adventurous section of the French Broad River, where one of the oldest rivers on the planet passes by some of the best spots in "Beer City USA." We'll paddle up to a variety of Asheville's best breweries, eateries, funky riverside bars, and wading pools. Each trip will vary based on the weather, what is open, and what the folks in your group enjoy most. Most trips include 2 breweries, a couple of eating options, and depending on the day, a bonus brewery or winery. Non-drinkers will have plenty of sight-seeing options nearby as well. Depending on the time of year, we may see otters, beavers, herons, friendly ducks, and colorful fish. Other things to note You will enjoy this the most if you are comfortable with being on a river and are able to swim. Rapids are very mild (Class I at most).

  • Sunset Trail Run at Black Balsam Knob
This is an incredible trail running tour perfect for novice or experienced trail runners. We'll meet at the trailhead for Black Balsam Knob, a paved Forest Service road off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. From here, we'll discuss the final details of our run. The loop is a little over 5 miles and includes a mixture of trail and old road beds, with a little over 1000' of climbing. There are a couple of steeper sections that will be more of a hike than run. Depending on the sunset and your abilities, we may run this loop clockwise or counter-clockwise. Counter-clockwise, we'll start with a section of the 31-mile Art Loeb Trail - one of the best as it crosses over the bald summits of Tennent Mountain and Black Balsam Knob. This half of the run is singletrack and on more technical terrain which will require some hiking. The views from these mountains are some of the best in the entire Blue Ridge Mountains - and we'll be visiting them around sunset. Expect plenty of photo opportunities and a truly unique trail run few have experienced. After leaving the high mountain peaks, we'll follow an old railroad bed utilized by loggers in the early 1900's. We'll have some stellar views to the west as the final rays of light illuminate the horizon. I'll have a couple of lights to help us get back to the trailhead if it gets too dark. Afterward, we can enjoy some cold drinks before heading out. Other things to note This is a moderate trail run compared to most of the National Forest, but those newer to trail running may consider difficult. After enjoying the sunset at Black Balsam Knob, I'll have a light to help us finish the last half-mile to the trailhead.
