*New from November 2019: plunge pool in rear garden for guests to enjoy!!* Bright airy apartment with balcony and semi-open air bathroom, situated opposite a cinnamon field in a peaceful green spot. This is an ideal base from which to enjoy the beach life of Hikkaduwa, in a relaxing environment.
“Just spent two amazing weeks at Banana Leaf Apartments with my wife. Hannah and Amila were perfect hosts, full of local knowledge and always helpful and on hand to help with any questions. From the moment we arrived they made us feel welcome with their amazing hospitality and by the time we left it we felt we had always known them. The apartment was perfect, spotlessly clean and had everything you need for your holiday whether your there for a couple of days or a couple of weeks. Hikkaduwa is an amazing place to spend time but it can be very noisy and chaotic. Banana Leaf is perfectly positioned. Hidden away in a jungle setting amongst cinnamon and palm trees, waking up to the sound of chipmunks, wild peacock, sun birds and parrots but a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute tuc tuc ride puts you at the Galle road with all the shops, bars and restaurants you could ever need and the fantastic beach. I couldn't recommend Banana Leaf enough, perfect for nature lovers and beach lovers. We cant wait to get back there next year!”
Sailors' Bay is a beautiful guest house situated right on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Guest House offers A/C and non A/C rooms with a huge sea view terrace. This room is not a sea view room but if you sit at the balcony area of this room you will have some scenery (like in the pictures). Guest House consists of 6 bed rooms each with an attach toilet. It also provides free private parking, Wifi and hot water. Guests can enjoy the beach as their own private beach.
“If you are looking for a paradise beach, with a sunset to die for, look no further than Sailors Bay, at Dodanduwa, just two hours drive south from Colombo. It is a family run business, with six, spacious, self contained rooms with good WiFi, good electrics and great shower facilities. The breakfast is served outside under a thatched canopy, as you listen to the waves tumble on to the beach. Real coffee, four fruits, spicy omelette, toast and the most delicious coconut honey pancakes. Dilan and his brother were attentive and cared for my every need. It’s the little things that made it so good, a self catering kitchen, with fridge space, or their wealth of knowledge about transport and places of interest. They have thought of everything. I travelled alone and at 71, felt welcome and safe.”
Small bungalow in a serene location next to the Hikkaduwa lagoon. Property includes 1/2 acre of landscaped garden, 10m x 3m private swimming pool and jetty on the lagoon. Separate kitchen and caretaker's room. 5 min tuk tuk ride from Hikkaduwa town.
“We spent a week at PJ's villa, and had the most amazing time. We loved that the living area was open to the outdoors, so we could enjoy the great weather. It was nice that our toddlers could nap in the air conditioned bedrooms while we enjoyed a complimentary afternoon tea and could read a book next to the private pool. We had a wonderful time swimming in the pool every day, and even paddled around the lagoon in the canoe one evening. We took a couple walks, and were amazed by the neighborhood. A group of boys were playing cricket down the street and invited us to play along. They even climbed a tree to get us coconuts and gifted us with oysters. All the people we met in the neighborhood were so friendly. The caretaker Nihal took wonderful care of us. He made us a delicious breakfast every morning including really good tropical juices. He also made us really good dinners at our request or helped us to order in food. Jambo, the gardener, had a tuk tuk and drove us into Hikkaduwa to visit the beach, turtle hatchery, tsunami museum, Galle fort, river safari, restaurants, etc. Both he and Nihal had great recommendations for what to do. We loved all the wildlife at the villa. My husband is a big birder, and was happy to observe 20+ species on the property during our time there. We also saw plenty of lizards, tree frogs, squirrels, monitor lizard, and insects. There weren't as many mosquitoes as I was expecting, but definitely bring bug repellent. We all loved the dog, Ginger, too. She was great with our 1 and 3 year olds. When we left, my daughter gave her a big hug and exclaimed, "I love you, dog!" Unfortunately, we had to suddenly leave a day early due to travel restrictions surrounding COVID-19. We are now in quarantine because of the travel, but it was worth it. We would go back in a heartbeat! We've never been shown such wonderful hospitality from an AirBNB before. Thank you, PJ, Nihal, and Jambo!”
