Holiday rentals with a fire pit in Hillsdale County

Thistle House is bigger inside than it looks. The layout is inefficient: long walk from bedroom to bathroom-- 2 total in the house, but strangely right next to each other--and wasted space downstairs (esp. main bathroom). All of that, including the narrow, enclosed, back-hallway-like staircase and creaky floors lend to its old-time charm, though. There are modern appliances (e.g., refrigerator, stove/oven, washer/dryer, large TV) but no dishwasher. The heat is also inefficient. Downstairs seemed fine, but Jennifer had (correctly) warned us that upstairs where the bedrooms are would be chilly. Heating fans were available in each, but we opted just to pile on blankets, which she also had several of around the house. The only bed we tried (queen in the front room) was comfortable. That walk-in closet had lots of hangers we could use. We were pleased to be a short drive from campus in a safe neighborhood and in a house obviously well loved and cared for. We would stay here again.

The house was very clean, spacious, and had everything- and then some!- that we needed. There was even a helpful business card for a local dispensary. The location was amazing, very peaceful and beautiful. We saw an eagle, two heron, and two geese families as soon as we turned onto the road before we even got to the house! Definitely bring your own kayak- that's the only regret I have.

We love the cottage and all it has to offer. We had everything we needed. There was plenty of space… beautiful views, and we really enjoyed our time there with the family. We love Long Lake and plan to return as soon as we are able.

Second stay, and will likely stay again. All the house you need and then some right on the lake!

This place was everything we needed!!! The location was perfect because it was so close to the Waterloo Hunt Club for our horse show. The inside is recently updated and has everything it listed, even a keurig! This home is on the water and give you assess to the dock for fishing, has a fire pit, beautiful patio and a great grill-eating area including a large picnic table. The 1.5 bathrooms was nice when we were all getting ready in the morning. It’s a quiet area so easy ins and outs. Just overall excellent and so comfortable! Will come back for sure when we have our next horse show!

I had no issues upon arrival entering the space. Easy, clear cut directions. Space is clean, tidy and perfect for a weekend getaway. Hot tub was nice with a great view of the lake. I felt comfortable staying here. I would visit again.

John & I were so thankful for the living space Kathleen offered. We were in Marshall for 6 weeks to work with the Brain Treatment Center. We loved our health retreat as we worked with Dr. Wallace and her staff. Sunset Hills living was perfect with everything we needed, also to allow me to work remotely while in Marshall. Kathleen and Shawn were amazing and so so responsive to any of our request. Love and Energy! Diana

such a detailed, friendly space! stayed for a wedding weekend and it had anything you could need from an iron to all the extra toiletries. Plus was so relaxing and cozy. our host personalized recommendations too, would definitely recommend if you're looking for an adventure or for a place to crash in the beautiful Irish hills.

We stayed during the off season but I have to imagine this place is amazing during the summer. We had a great time. Beautiful view of the lake.

What a beautiful space—right out of a magnolia home magazine :-) provided us a private and peaceful open concept gathering area. Had everything we needed! Would definitely stay again!!

Our second year staying here for a family retreat. It is difficult to find an Airbnb that sleeps 8, but also has room for 8 at the kitchen table and on the sofa, and we are appreciative that this property does. Well stocked and comfortable.
