A 1950s bridge house in the late ‘Amsterdam School’ style, bordering the popular Jordaan area and the heart of Amsterdam.

Take a stroll to the tourist-friendly Haarlemmer street (8 minutes) with some of the city’s best bars, restaurants and patisseries. The popular Noordermarkt, open on Saturdays and Mondays is a paradise for organic food lovers and antique fans, within walking distance (9 minutes). Amsterdam Central Station is directly accessible by bus or tram (17 minutes).

The space
From 1952 to 2017 the Kattenslootbrug bridge house accommodated the city’s bridge keepers. In 2017 the bridge house started a new chapter as one of SWEETS hotel's 28 hotel rooms. As with every SWEET, Kattenslootbrug’s interior is inspired by its architectural history.

Architect Pieter Lodewijk Kramer designed the Kattenslootbrug bridge house just before he left the city’s bridge division in 1952. This post-war structure is clearly more austere compared to its predecessors, which is evident in the simple roof form, the steel window frames and the use of steel plate in the balustrades. Still, the building displays features typical of Kramer such as the relationship between the building and the bridge barrier and the different brick patterns around the roof and window frames. The bridge was operated from a control lectern situated on the other side of the bridge. Kramer also designed a small terrace with seating next to the bridge house.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire bridge house, including a double bed (160x200cm), a toilet, a shower and coffee & tea facilities. The entrance is unlocked with the guest's own smartphone, by making use of a mobile key app and Bluetooth.

A basic cleaning check is done every two days.

Please note that the bridge is still fully operational and might open and close during your stay. It is a unique experience to wave at the ships passing by, but be careful when going outside.

SWEETS hotel is a one-of-a-kind hotel located across Amsterdam in 28 different bridge houses. Each bridge house has been transformed into an independent hotel suite that accommodates a maximum of two guests.

For centuries, Amsterdam’s bridge houses accommodated the city’s many bridge keepers who were responsible for opening the impressive structures for passing water traffic. With building dates between 1673 and 2009, the bridge houses carry an extensive history. Visiting them in chronological order is like a journey through time: their various architectural styles reveal how the city developed and grew, when new quarters were built and even how people thought about city development at that time.

With the hotel room interiors, SWEETS hotel offers guests a unique and comfortable living space, while keeping the history of every bridge house in mind. All bridge houses are different, and so are the interiors. Every SWEET accommodates up to two adults and contains a kingsize double bed, a bathroom and coffee and tea facilities.

SWEETS hotel, first initiated in 2012 as an urban space project, is 8 years in the making. Over half of the 28 bridge houses are currently available for reservations, with more coming soon.
