This is one of the few remaining Shoin-zukuri-style, purely Japanese buildings in Hiroshima City, built 75 years ago, shortly after the war.One step from the main street, there is a small Japanese-style garden in a quiet environment where you can relax. Some of the items on display at the Dance House include a vase that partially melted due to the heat from the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, as well as photographs from around 100 years ago. The fittings and glassware date back more than 70 years, and the two gardens, the irigata (raised floor area), and the study, in particular, capture the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house. At present, these items can only be obtained by placing an order with a select group of craftspeople. Of the five rooms, three are tatami-mat rooms; please sleep on the tatami mats with your futon on top at bedtime. ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ ◆ Limited to one group per day / Private rental – An immersive stay experiencing the rebirth of a long-established ryokan and a storehouse ◆ ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ ■ Location, history, features ■ In the port town of Mitsuhama in Matsuyama/Dogo, a 106-year-old long-established kaiseki ryokan (formerly the Kaganaga Ryokan), built in the Edo period, with four white-walled earthen storehouses surrounded by four gardens, has been gradually renovated and revitalised (currently in the process of revitalisation), with white plastered earthen walls and natural Kannonji bamboo fences. This is an old private house inn that initially opened as an accommodation facility for almost 100% inbound guests. We are renovating the semi-open-air bath inside the storehouse and the area around the water. ■ Soothing moss garden ■ There are three moss gardens: the front garden, the middle garden, and the back garden. Well water flows everywhere, and there is a stream that flows between the holy water basin, the ladle, the deer stone, and the stepping stones. The pot pond is home to koi, goldfish, medaka, conger eel, and river shrimp, and it is a biotope space visited by wild birds. ■ Check-in lounge (cafe/lounge area), souvenir corner ■ You can enjoy authentic cocktails on the ground floor of the annex (main building).
