“We found Richie's place after a late night decision to take off the next day for a mini COVID vacation with our 4 kids and furbaby. Richie's instructions to get to the cabin were spot on and everything was ready for a last minute booking. Off the beaten road and up a driveway that is well described in the listing. Our minivan made it up and down daily with no issues. The cabin was much larger than we expected. Very spacious and open with a rustic and personal decor that makes it feel so comfy! Everything you could need Richie had available. Plenty of extra sheets and blankets, air mattress, shampoo/body wash, books, board games, laundry soap, and the most important to me is a fully furnished kitchen with access to a pantry for those little things you hate to buy when traveling. (And more!) The Playstation is a PS3 if you would like to bring your own games. The bedrooms do not have TV's but it was a nice switch up for the kiddos to entertain themselves outdoors or doing something more productive TOGETHER. As Richie describes, it is very rustic. If your wanting the idea of cabin without the authenticity of a real cabin, this is not for you. The upstairs loft bedrooms stayed a little warm. Heat rises!! We went and bought a fan and it cooled it off enough the kids didn't complain. The large deck was a relaxing place to unwind once the kids were in bed. The river access is at the bottom across from the driveway entrance. Richie gave us the go ahead to shoot fireworks with the kiddos one evening on the riverfront and they had a blast! There is not much yard space by the cabin, so if you have a dog that is weird about were they use the restroom, you may need to walk the driveway a little bit. We had one concern upon arriving which Richie was kind and quick to accommodate us and resolve the issue. Richie is friendly, attentive, and cares about his guests experience. An awesome host that thinks of all the little things! My suggestions: If you get a chance, check out Heavy's BBQ and Frostee Drive In for some good food and Gap Creek Coffee House for the best coffee and cake ever! They had our business 3 days in a row. Take a day and visit the Gap. Walk around the quaint little Town. The Old Drugs Store is closed but you can read some interesting facts in the windows of the store. Actually of my family history! We also walked the train tracks. Visit Tri-State Peak and do not miss the Overlook! Thank you Richie for allowing us to stay in your home so that we could quarantine somewhere else, enjoy nature, and show our kids some of moms family history! Memories were made! 😊”

“What can we say that hasn't been said about this extraordinary place? Plenty of room for your family to stretch out and engage in a myriad of activities alone or in small groups, but also many spaces to get together as one, big, happy family. She provides all the toys: kick ball, badminton, basketball, paddle boat, corn hole, cards, board games, puzzles, toys...even an organ to play! The stars are so much easier to see, the sounds of frogs in the evening lull you to sleep, the birds chirp to wake you up in the morning. It was heavenly! We were looking for a private, romantic couple of days followed by our children joining us for a cozy family getaway. Lee's Sweet Retreat was perfect for us. 40 secluded, private acres are yours to spread out and enjoy. Once there, Lee kindly drew a cable, with an "occupied" sign, across the beginning of the very long, meandering driveway that leads to your very own large dale, surrounded by wooded hills. No roads nearby. No neighbors as far as the eye can see and you are free to enjoy your little slice of heaven and let the world disappear. Lee is accessible if you need to get in touch with her but gives you your privacy. We will most certainly return!”
The Elk Creek Cottage borders the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park property--the pathway to the west, trailblazed by Daniel Boone himself! Stay and hike to Hensley Settlement or Shillalah Creek Falls, fish for Brook-Trout, or relax with a cup of coffee on the porch surrounded by nature. Only a scenic twenty-minute drive to Middlesboro or Pineville, KY separates you from the "city." Come enjoy the peace and quiet that Elk Creek Cottage has to offer.
“Leigh Ann's cabin is an amazing place! We are Super Hosts and even have a cabin of our own. Believe me when I say that Leigh Ann has thought of everything to provide at this cabin. Her personal touches, amenities and hospitality did not go unnoticed! She went above and beyond to provide a great place, quick communication, and wonderful hospitality. Some things we especially appreciated was having firewood on site , a comfortable bed to sleep in and a wonderful porch to sit on after a long day of exploring. There is hiking right out the door which we took advantage of as well as kayaking and more excursions less than 30 minutes away. We came here for a safe place to come away from people for our 32nd anniversary and we got to do everything we love to do right here at The Cumberland Gap. Leigh Ann did a wonderful job renovating and setting up this cabin and we can tell she put her heart into it. You will not be sorry if you book your stay here!”
