The house is located in the countryside - but the town is only 5m walk away. My father (who speaks German) builds on the spot a variety of fruits such as pomegranates, figs, mandarins, prickly pears, bergamot, grapes, olives and a variety of vegetables. On-site everything self-grown can be tasted. The city (Roggiano Gravina) is still traditionally Calabrian. For those who want to discover Italy away from mass tourism!
“For us it was the first time in Calabria. We wanted to get to know the real Southern Italy and not go on vacation where more tourists than locals can be found. Exactly that and more we have found here. The village "Roggiano Gravina" is just like you imagine an Italian village. Picturesque, quiet and full of Italians who are friendly and open-minded. There is a great pizzeria in the village which is both super cheap and super tasty. Absolute recommendation! Ask Geraldo for the address. Geraldos small olive farm is located just outside the village on a neighboring mountain which borders directly on the old town. From the super large terrace you can admire the village and the surrounding mountains. It is very idyllic and beautiful rural. Geraldo has about 20 olive trees. He cares for her and builds many other cultures. He received us with antipasti. Everything we ate came either from the village or directly from the farm (also the wine ). It was just delicious and absolutely natural. Geraldo likes to play guitar and sings what fits perfectly into the whole scenario. Besides him, his two boys live on the farm. They are 15 and 19 and super friendly. Unfortunately both speak neither English nor German. Geraldo speaks good German because he has lived in Germany for 20 years. Of course, this greatly facilitated the communication. He then took us to the village and translated it for us so that we could really get to know the village community. In return, we helped him a bit on the farm. Of course, this is not necessary at all, but it has made us friends to cut wine and plant new crops. There are also two dogs on the farm (watch dogs). Both are nice and stormy. They walk on a long chain - so who does not like dogs can get out of their way. The house has two floors each with its own entrances. Both floors are separated, so we had our own "small" empire on 110m ². It was clean and bright. Here we could easily have had two more people. If you are not sociable you will not get anything from Geraldo and his sons on the lower floor (except maybe the guitar) but I can only recommend to get in contact with you! They are very nice and helpful. Our bedroom was nice and simple. They are old furniture, recently deceased parents, but it has its own charm. The bed was comfortable and big enough for my wife and me. Another bedroom would also have been free. The toilet is not the newest but well maintained. Everything works and you have enough space. The fully equipped kitchen on the upper floor we did not use, either because we ate in the village or down with Geraldo. There is also a room in the fitness equipment. However, we never used them .... I prefer ...”
