Holiday Rentals in Ballymena

Just booked in Ballymena

This is a unique residence, designed by a leading architect, with everything you might need for a relaxing holiday, only 17 miles from Belfast Int'l airport. The house is rebuilt in natural stone with amazing views over lakes and mountains.
Combining the old and the new, this barn complex, newly rebuilt in natural stone has panoramic views of Lough Beg, the Bann valley, the Sperrin mountains, and Lough Neagh. A perfect rural retreat with the comfort of modern design and high speed wifi This recently converted barn is in a peaceful rural setting, only 17 miles by car from Belfast Int'l airport and 28 miles from the Belfast ferry terminals. The Giant's Causeway, the Antrim coast and Glens, with their long sandy beaches, are only 45 minutes away. Groceries, restaurants and bars are 3 miles away in Portglenone. Boating, sailing, canoeing, fishing, coastal walks and golf, and more, are all available within a few miles. Seamus Heaney, the famous poet, was born and lived nearby. For larger shopping and city experiences Ballymena is 7 miles away; Belfast 28 miles; Derry/ Londonderry 40 miles. Even Dublin is accessible within 2 and a half hour's driving, or by rail link from Ballymena and Belfast. The space comprises a new kitchen with cooker and microwave, large living area and loft with marvellous views over Lough Beg and the Sperrin Mts. The barn sleeps 2 in the loft with sleeping for 2 more on a large sofa bed in the living area below. A modern living room with full- height glass gable- end overlooking the Bann river valley, with tiled underfloor heating, sleeping loft, and bathroom. Hi-speed wifi (65 Mbs/sec). Separate kitchen and dining room with hot water on-demand. A private outdoor patio. Access to gardens and private car parking. Support is available as required, but the emphasis is on providing pleasant accommodation in a private retreat with contact only when required. We will provide telephone numbers in case you need assistance of any kind. A peaceful and tranquil site set among fields and open farmland with great views, comfort and relaxation. Tourist, outdoor and sporting amenities are a short drive away: when, and if, you want them. However, the landscape is what attracts most people to Northern Ireland. From this location everything is within reach. Lough Beg (4 miles ) is renowned for its bird life. For rainy days the Game of Thrones and Titanic Exhibitions in Belfast are easily accessible (40 miles). A car is strongly recommended. Though civilisation is close by, no public transport operates in this locality. However there are local taxi services for airport pick-ups and shorter journeys which link into the public transport services. The barn has it's own private car park which accommodates two large vehicles. Access to the adjacent kitchen and dining area is from a separate entrance. Tea and coffee- making facilities and a small fridge are also provided in the living area for additional convenience. Bed linen and towels are provided.
The house is in the countryside but villages (Portglenone and Ahoghill ) are only 3 miles away, with Ballymena and Antrim 7 and 10 miles away, and Belfast 30 miles away. the Giant's Causeway and the Antrim coast road is only 45-50 minutes away. Lots of restaurants and bars within easy reach: see guide in the living area.
  • Gerard was very accurate with answering and I feel very welcome. His siter Inez was welcome us en let us show the house . The house is very complete, and gave us a great luxury feeling. The spot is just amazing, beautiful surrounding and views. It is wunderful that Gerard shares this place with his guests.

  • Gerry & Tricia are wonderful hosts. From the moment we met them they made us feel welcome. Throughout our stay they responded to our questions promptly and completely. Yes, the rental really is that beautiful, the setting is truly stunning and the home spotlessly clean. Do everyone a favor and remove your shoes when you're in the home (they've got white stairs!). My husband and I were only able to stay for two nights, and we wish we could've stayed longer. It is a very private spot with an incredible view of the loughs in the distance. Despite its peacefulness, it is only a few minutes to nearby towns. In short, this is the perfect place to explore Northern Ireland. If the weather is good, enjoy coffee or tea on the back patio and watch the birds dart through the field. Thanks for a wonderful and memorable time!

    Dina2015-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • We all felt very spoilt while staying at Gerry's place. The location is so lovely, as was the hospitality we received. The supplies provided for breakfast were greatly appreciated as was the general attention to detail evident throughout the barn. A special place for us to be based while we undertook family history research in the area. Thanks Gerry and Inez.

  • We loved our stay at this rural retreat. The scenery is beautiful and the barn has been fully renovated with immaculate taste and great attention to detail. Gerard was very communicative and made sure we had directions and felt comfortable with our arrival. Even though he was out of town when we stayed, his sister took great care of us. She was very sweet and helpful!

    Kelly2015-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Gerry and Tricia's was excellent. Communication was fantastic and both are really lovely people. Gerry gave some great tips of the area and we found that, location wise, we were really well placed. We bathed like cats in the afternoon that flooded through the giant windows and felt that the accommodation was like a home away from home. The kitchen is well kitted out and we had everything we needed during our stay. Thanks for your wonderful hospitality.

    Lee2015-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • we had a great time. gerry and his wife were very friendly and helpful. the cottage is easily within driving distance to restaurants, shopping and a great location for a day trip into belfast. the cottage itself is beautifully renovated with all modern amenities and the view is stunning. we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Derek2014-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay this weekend! The barn is gorgeous and we were very well looked after! I could have looked at that view all day - really recommend staying here. Thank you! X

    Victoria2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rural Retreat. Although Gerard wasn't there we were welcomed by his sister Inez. She was extremely helpful in every respect. The living space was luxurious, with many amenities. We were surprised by the fact that the kitchen was separate from the living space, but this gave it an added unique charm.

  • A very clean and well positioned room near the centre of Ballymena. Nigel is an excellent host.

    tom2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • The property has its own private door to access the rooms. Nigel was a great host, giving us access to the kitchen and use of fridge. The rooms/bathrooms were spotlessly clean and fresh towels in the bathroom. The property is above a pub but still quiet. Perfect location in Ballymena just a short walk to the shops and restaurants. I'd stay again

  • Adam was a great host. We had no problems with checking in even though we arrived quite late at night. Adam was very responsive to any queries we had, such as booking taxis to the airport. A lot of love went into making the place feel homely, and the bottle of fizz on arrival was a lovely touch. Very handy if attending a wedding at the Galgorm hotel as only a short drive away. We had a very pleasant time.

Many thoughtful amenities offered in a way that you almost don't notice because everything you might need is just "there". Grainne i s gracious, kind, and Brendan, too. A personal welcome to the house, basic groceries supplied so that I didn't even need to go to the shop, I walked everywhere and enjoyed the park and river and trails. Thank you for the hospitality.

  • It was an absolutely amazing experience. Grainne and Brendan went out of the way to make us comfortable and even got us some breakfast as we were leaving very early to the airport. The house was very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Both of them have also furnished details about nearby restaurants, walks etc., to help guests enjoy their stay. It is a beautiful drive to the Coach house. We only stayed there for a night and would love to go back there for a longer stay.

    Elsa2017-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay. We stayed whilst attending a wedding at the Tullyglass hotel. The flat had everything we needed to get ready for the wedding; an extremely comfy bed, powerful shower, a decent iron and a good hairdryer. The area is quiet and very pretty, perfect for what we needed, the cafe, Toast, up the road did a great fry-up for only £3. Communication was spot on with the host. One little note, although it says it's not kid friendly we managed with no problems, there's plenty of space for a travel cot (if you have one) and ample TVs channels too.

    Catherine2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Katryn is an amazing host. She is in every detail. Communication was exceptional and the flat is simply amazing. Highly recommend it.

  • This is a lovely, quiet clean and recently renovated home with modern appliances. It is situated on a rural property behind a secure electronic gate and there is ample place to park. The layout of the cottage suited us well as the bedrooms on either side of the house meant we had privacy (from my in laws who were staying with us!) On hearing that we were staying with our 13 month son, Lauren organised a travel cot and high chair for us and the ducks in the bath were a lovely touch! Everything worked as expected including wifi, heating, hot water, parking.

  • We stayed in the cottage because we had a wedding nearby in Ballymena. Tge location is within walking distance of Cullybacky and is in the most beautiful setting of a fantastic garden and lake. We couldn't have been accomodated better! The cottage is beautiful and has everything you need.. I just wish we could have spent longer here! Thank you so much! We will definately return!

  • Cottage is quaint, and sitting along a beautiful lake. Bedroom is in a loft with low ceilings.

    Brandon2017-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • A nice old cottage situated in a beautiful place close to a river and the center of the Cullybackey village. However, there was cold inside at the beginning, but it turned better after it started to heat. Also the road condition was bad when we arrived but this is a winter thing only (weather was horrible). I guess it would be a perfect place to have a summer vacation.

  • Great spot if you want to get away from it all (you’ll need a car, though). If you are very tall, there are parts of the cottage with low ceilings. Hosts were very welcoming to our dogs and us.

The loft-type apartment is attached to main house but has a separate entrance. Its ideal for people staying for more than 2 nights. The space is a self-catering accomodation. It has its own kitchen where you can prepare your own meals. Its furnished for a comfortable stay. It has a gas cooker, microwave, and a small fridge. There is also a washing machine, for guests use. Families with pets are welcome. The space is large enough to accommodate extra family members.
The Coach House is a renovated space used as a barn in 1880's. The space is ideal for people staying for more than 2 nights. The Dreen, as we call the main house, is a country estate located in the Dreen Road, Cullybackey. Its an old manor house but cottages and additional living spaces has been added through the years. We have a 180 meters lake fed by the village river. The garden blooms through spring and summer. We encourage guests to walk along the gardens and around the lake. Picnic tables are placed near the lake and gardens, perfect setting for BBQ on a sunny day.
We are 1 mile from Galgorm Manor Resort & Spa, and 800m from the Cullybackey village and 4miles from nearby towns of Ballymena and Portglanone. We recommend The Maine Cafe for coffee and all day breakfast and The Toast Restaurant down by the village of Cullybackey also has a lunch menu. The village restaurants are open from Monday to Saturday from 8am- 6pm.
  • Lovely setting, spacious and fully equipped place. Thanks for letting us stay. Perfect for any Galgorm weddings

    Tom2017-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcoming hosts. Comfortable main beds, sofa beds somewhat less so. Very roomy accommodation in beautiful grounds. Have to walk through the main bedroom to get to the bathroom, but no problem as it is advertised as one-bedroom, although sofa beds are available downstairs too. Living/kitchen area perhaps a little poorly lit and somewhat old-fashioned decor, but hosts were very obliging and friendly. Nice dogs!

  • John, Ruby and Cooper made us feel like part of the family. They really looked after us and made what was an enjoyable stay an incredible stay! The Dreen is the most fantastic and original place to stay. We'd recommend it to anybody! Thank you all!

    Michael2017-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • The annex is an unusual space adjoining the main house, all set within lovely grounds with a lake. The space functions well and has everything you need. It's quaint and quite charming - not super luxurious, but neither does it claim to be! John and Ruby were friendly and welcoming hosts.

    Jonny2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • The place was absolutely gorgeous! It was a last minute trip and Rc was so accommodating to the check in and our time constraint. The place is a bit out of the area, but a gorgeous property.

    Dede2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • We were very impressed by the accommodation and views. The accommodation feels secluded and quiet but the town is only a couple of minutes away. The rooms were very clean and well equipped. John and Ruby were extremely helpful and welcoming. We would like to stay again and would definitely recommend to others.

  • Our weekend at John's and Ruby's place was excellent without any overstatement. We visited them with three young children and it was our best b-and-b experience ever. They welcomed us with tea, coffee, home made bread and very open discussions. We felt like at our friends' place. Both John and Ruby were very open, we had a walk around their estate and lake, had dinner and breakfast together. We got an idea of the northern Irish way of life in the countryside. The house and the garden is perfect for a relaxing weekend (or more days) with children.

  • We had a most wonderful stay at The Dreen. Rose & John were so warm and welcoming. It was like going to a friend's house! The accommodation was perfect for my Husband & I along with our 2 kids and a friend of theirs. Both rooms were spacious, clean and ensuite also. Breakfast was a huge spread and was so homely. Afterwards John gave us a tour of the lake, the kids fed the ducks and he showed us around his beautiful gardens and home. John was so entertaining and Rose so kind, both were so loveable x

  • Great location, comfortable and very welcoming hosts. We greatly enjoyed our time at The Dreen and will return.

  • John und Ruby's house and the infinite grounds will take your breath away. They are just incredible hosts, really dedicated and enjoying what they are doing. The conversations with them were very interesting. John loved to show us around, we enjoyed it a lot and found it very inspiring. The house and cottages are built in different styles and we didn't even manage to see them all. Something has to be left for the next time :) The lake, the hedges and all the flowers/trees were just like in a fairytale. Rooms were big enough and spotless and looked better than in the pictures. John and Ruby prepared some delicious , hearty breakfast for us to cater for our vegetarian needs. The propriety is well located in the middle of the country, everything is located within easy reach. We don't know how to thank you, it was really hard to leave and we hope to see you again one day. Keep us updated regarding your projects. All the best & love, Sergej, Vivien, Nora & George

  • We truly recommend this place, both to individual travellers and families. We have spent two wonderful days in this place which we loved, just like we loved the host, John, who made us feel like at home. The breakfast was fantastic both at home and downtown. Thanks once again!

  • We had an amazing stay at Ruby and John's who are great hosts and lovely people. The house is stunning, in the middle of the beautiful Irish countryside. It's very clean and cosy and Ruby and John will make you feel at home ! If you're looking for a charming house to stay between Belfast and Giants Causeway, don't hesitate anymore, it's the one ! We recommend this Airbnb!!

    Lorene2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • At Ruby and John's The Dreen house, you will find an unparallelled level of hospitality. John and Ruby have lived varied, fulfilling, exciting, rich lives. The house is full of corners and nucks which John will enjoy showing you. The puddle that became a lake with sailing and rowing boats, the extension after extension, all this in this 30 acres property in the middle of nature. With an open mind, you'll laugh, relax, enjoy and will never forget this place till the day ... It is a great location to discover Northern Ireland from. We were there to participate in a golf tournament. We won't tell the other players about this place as we want to keep it for ourselves if we return next year....

    BENOIT2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Ruby and John are the most amazing host I've ever met so far. They made my sisters and I feel as if we were home. They were completely understanding and even helped us choosing a place to go for dinner. Their house was amazingly beautiful and comfortable. Its delightful to speak to them as they are an amazing pair. The entire place was breathtaking. The only thing I regret is not having been there for a longer time. Its definitely a place that I would love to visit again. I enjoyed their company and their super breakfast. I truly felt like if I was eating with family and friends. Thank you so much for your time and effort to make us feel comfortable.

We have a friendly cat that roams the house too. The Dreen, is a country estate, its 100m away from the main road of the village. A mature garden and a field surrounds the main house.
  • John and his wife made us very comfortable in their home from the moment we walked through the door. It would be difficult to find more friendly, welcoming or accommodating hosts. We were sorry that we had not booked for a longer stay and that we did not have time to walked around the beautiful grounds. It was also great value for money. We look forward to going there again. Highly recommended!!

  • The GPS in the car lead us off course a few hundred yards, but there is a clear sign on the side of the road "The Doreen" on a piece of wood, we might have just been too tired to see it in the first place! Thank you John and Ruby for such a wonderful few days! Your property is beautiful and I cannot wait to see all of the work done in the future. John gave us the best tour of the main property and ruby showed us a nice trail around the lake. Very warm and welcoming. Cannot wait to return! The space was very clean, cosy and comfortable and had everything we could have needed. The garden is very beautiful and well kept with a lot of lovely flowers, a great spot to enjoy the evening sun with a glass of wine. Overall a great stay and highly recommended.

  • Thus is a lovely house in a very quiet country location. It's furnished and equipped to an exceptionally high standard. It's ideally located to see all of Northern Ireland, only about an hour from everywhere. Thoroughly recommend it.

  • Richard and Pam's home is the perfect place to stay and explore the North of Ireland. The location is very central and an easy drive to all the wonderful locations of the north. The West Wing apartment has everything you will need and is such a beautiful spot and such an experience to be able to stay in such a grand home is a real treat. The gardens are beautiful and if you are lucky as we were to wake up in the morning and look out at the garden you might spot the resident rabbit. The local village of Broughshane has everything you need as well. We enjoyed a meal at the Thatch the local pub, fish & chips was great although one serve was big enough for 2. We tried two of the local cafes that were great The Barista and the Reading Room had exceptional home baked scones and other great items too many to mention. They both had great coffee and lovely staff. Thanks Richard and Pam for the opportunity to stay at your wonderful home we cannot recommend this enough. Regards Shirley & Ralph Jones Australia

  • Very cosy and comfortable place. The location is perfect for a get away. The dogs and gardens are lovely. Thank you!

  • If you wanna quiet get away or you're visiting Northern Ireland to see: the dark hedges;the Giants Causeway (which is an absolute must); The Rope Bridge; hiking in Glennariff; whatever, then this place is perfect for two people who have a car. Pam and Richard are most accommodating people who maintain their property to a very high standard. It is very cosy and quiet and for the price it is simply outstanding. As superhosts whom manage many properties in Dublin this would be one of the best we've seen, particularly for the price. Comfy bed, good kitchen, excellent Wi-Fi and parking for your car, you really can't go passed for a couple, or a single person, if you're seeking pleasure relaxation or fun up in the north of Northern Ireland. Middletown coffee company is a fab cafe in Ballymena, where there is also a Very good Tesco Supermaket. We plan to return again, soon. 6 stars for value.

  • We LOVED our stay at the Mill! What a beautiful place! Everything was ready for us, and our host did a lovely job answering our questions and making us feel so welcome. Our only regret is that we didn't book more nights! It was clean, comfy and quite close to all of the sights in Northern Ireland. This will be a wonderful memory until we come back again-hopefully soon!

  • Had a very relaxing stay in Phyllis's home with my girlfriend. The house was an amazing restoration and very comfortable and modern. The check in and out were very easy and communication with Phyllis was simple. Would recommend staying here for a relaxing getaway, with plenty of activities nearby.

  • This house is beyond beautiful. The beds are very comfortable, the decor is stunning, the house was spotless, and the facilities were great. The area is quiet and a short walk to Supervalu, and the house has a lovely garden. We met with Harry when we arrived and he was super friendly and gave us great recommendations for restaurants and numbers for a local taxi company. Overall we had an amazing weekend in the house and would recommend it to everyone.

  • We enjoyed staying in the Old Mill. It is a beautiful, bright, modern space with just the right mix of old and new. Conveniently located a few minutes walk to a supermarket.
