Lofty Hideaway is sanitized with ozone treatments between guests. It’s Berea’s most convenient, dog-friendly ($20 extra cleaning fee), fully furnished studio apartment located one mile off Interstate 75. This large, second-story loft features a full kitchen with a stove, microwave and refrigerator, two-vanity bathroom, washer & dryer, dining area, plasma TV with ROKU (YouTube TV), coffee maker, queen bed and a large desk. Lofty Hideaway is surrounded by forest enjoyed from a private porch.
First off, Lofty Hideaway is a rustic, cabin-like space with rough, natural wood and a lived-in feel. This is a very nice, clean and comfortable place, but it’s not a luxury condo. I mention this because of unfair reviews stating the place isn’t fancy enough. It feels like going home... not to a stranger’s place. The bathroom vanity came from a farm house in Mount Vernon, Ky. The porcelain kitchen sink and cabinetry came from an old home in the historic district in Winchester, Ky. The dining table was my family’s for years and is nicely broken in. If you want to stay in this type of place, we are happy to have you. Lofty Hideaway is the most convenient and accessible for Interstate 75 travelers in Berea. Here, just a little more than one mile from the interstate, you’ll have plenty room and privacy to explore Berea and the Bluegrass region, hike the Pinnacles on the front range of the Appalachians, spend a day browsing the many art and crafts shops nearby, or just relax in a convenient place to refresh before continuing your journey. We welcome well-behaved, housebroken dogs. There is an additional $20 cleaning fee unless your pet is a Yorkie, Poodle, or another breed that doesn’t shed. Lofty Hideaway is a studio apartment with a rustic feel. It is more like a guest house as it”s locates above a detached garage away from the main house so you can enjoy plenty privacy. It has most amenities you would expect: a fully equipped kitchen, stove, refrigerator and freezer (sorry no automatic ice maker), washer and dryer, alarm clock, TV with ROKU (YouTube TV) and more than two dozen over-the-air channels, air conditioner and a fan, bathroom heater, toaster oven, hair dryer, clothes iron, a shower and more. I provide fresh linens and towels, coffee, and soap and shampoo. I have set the booking schedule to block off one day after a guest checks out to allow sufficient time to prepare for our next guest. It can be difficult to properly clean and prepare the space when a guest checks in the same day another checks out, but if you need to book one of these days and are willing to check in later or be flexible with our prepping the apartment... contact me and we may be able to accommodate. Also, be aware that the loft is located atop a hill and getting up the driveway during inclement weather in the winter may be difficult depending on your vehicle.
This apartment is close to many locally owned and fast food restaurants, and at least 5 gas stations within a couple miles. Walmart, Cracker Barrel, Dollar General, and several banks are 1-2 miles away.
  • Jay communicated quickly and very accommodating. Cute loft and a nice stay as we passed thru the area.

  • Great stay! Having the place detached from the main house made the stay very private and I really appreciated that.

  • Wonderful stay, it's rustic but very functional and full of personality. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend this place!

  • This space is exactly as described. It afforded us plenty of room to stretch out and spend quality time as a family. The location is fabulous - super close to restaurants and downtown Berea. We would definately book this place again.

  • We found this rustic loft space perfect for us and our young dog on her first road trip. It was convenient to the things we wanted to do on Berea, hike and check out galleries. The hosts were very responsive. It might be a little hard to initially locate in the dark. We arrived in the daytime.

This cabin is on 30 acres next to my house. The view is breathtaking! The cabin is small, charming, ideal for one or two people. It has a sweet, peaceful vibe. It's cozy and clean with a glam-rustic feel, but not luxurious. It overlooks a small lake and is on a steep hill six miles outside of Berea. The cabin has Wi-fi with AmazonPrime and Netflix. We are very close to hiking at The Pinnacles -- in the country but close enough to town to enjoy what it has to offer.
Although someone will be on the grounds, you can have as little or as much privacy as you like. I have a small American Eskimo dog who is friendly as can be. She is mostly in the house with me. Although she initially barks when she hears strangers she pipes down almost immediately. I think the most outstanding thing about this cabin is that it's in such a peaceful and beautiful setting. The cabin is small but equipped with just about all extras.
This cabin is outside of town a bit. If you need something quickly there's a gas station and Dollar General about a mile down the road. Otherwise, Berea is full of magic and wonder, and there are some great things to do and see. And some good restaurants.
  • It’s hard to put into words how much I loved this cabin. The views were absolutely breathtaking to wake up to. Sitting on the porch watching our dogs play while drinking coffee was so relaxing. All of the small details in this cabin made us feel so welcomed. It is sometimes hard to find pet friendly places to stay and Linda goes above and beyond to make you and your pups feel at home. Also, the location is amazing! So close to hiking the pinnacles which is exactly what we came to do.

    Anne2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve been staying at Airbnb’s for the past 3 years and this is by far our favorite. Wonderful space that was peaceful and in a beautiful location. We will definitely be back.

  • Spectacular views. Cozy cabin. Loved it! Hope to go back.

    Leslie2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • I came back a week later to stay at Linda's cabin, because it was so wonderful the first time, and I wanted to enjoy it again. I'm so glad I did. I will think often of watching the lovely morning mist rise off the lake in the early morning while I drank my coffee. Just gorgeous.

    Amy2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's cabin is a cozy getaway, perfect for a retreat. It's beautifully appointed, and the view out the front door is breathtaking. Only a short drive to the Pinnacles, which offer some great hiking trails. Great value, and a lovely spot! Perfect for writers!

    Amy2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Location is great providing such a beautiful view. Accommodations were superb. Felt so at home. Close to Pinnacles which we enjoyed hiking Gracious hosts

    Darlene2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Linda's place. She was out of town during our visit, but her husband was available and very helpful. The place was perfect for a friend and I and my two pups. Her husband even treated us to homemade banana bread with local amish almond butter for breakfast! The view from the porch is breathtaking, and the cabin itself is spotless, homey, and comfortable. I can't wait to come back!

    Priscilla2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding view and cozy cabin make this stay absolutely worth it! Only stayed one night but would've LOVED to stay much longer. The hospitality was great too, Eddie is very friendly and helpful with everything. Great place!!

High On Berea is a lovely home that was built in 1938. The home sleeps 4 people. The space includes a kitchen, dining room, bathroom, living room and 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has a double bed. Living quarters are on one level with 4 stairs leading into the house and 2 stairs at the curb of house. Parking is available in driveway to the left of the home and in the back yard. City ordnance does not allow parking in front of the house.
The home is conveniently located near Berea College, Boone Tavern, and Papaleno's restaurant. The beautiful hiking trail called the Pinnacles are about a 10 minute drive from the home. The city is known for its arts and crafts. You are walking distance from Downtown Berea and the Square, both areas full of local artisan shops and attractions. You are also within walking distance of the College where you can take walks and enjoy the scenery - it is a beautiful campus.
This is a quiet residential neighborhood tucked behind one of the main streets in Berea, giving you amazing access to all the city has to offer!
  • It was a very nice and relaxing place to stay. I would definitely stay there again.

  • This is a charming home with nice touches to make your stay pleasant. It was the perfect stop for our family with two little ones. Close to I 75. Only wish we could have stayed longer to visit the cute town of Berea. We’ll have to come back!

  • Great place to stay!

    Jessica2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This house is immaculately clean and cozy. It is in easy walking distance from the college, main street and Boone's Tavern. Laura was a great hostess and good communicator.

    Hannah2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lauras place was great for us! We stayed one short night on our drive down south and it was great to just pull in the driveway and have all our luggage right at the front door. The house is super clean, and Laura had coffee and snakes for our early departure in the morning. Very conveniently are a couple of restaurants a block or two away. We will defiantly consider Lauras place for our next trip south.

    Nancy2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very home, sparkling clean, and comfortable. Laura was available for any questions very quickly. Walking distance to Old Town, the stores on Chestnut and the college. I look forward to staying again soon.

    Kim2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Convenient and all the amenities of home.

    James2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was exactly as Laura described it and the lovely decor was very welcoming. The bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed to prepare our home cooked breakfast before heading home. Laura was very accommodating and was quick to respond to all communications. The planning that went into making this house a home was greatly appreciated.

The cabin is about 13 miles from McKee town where there are places to eat and grocery shop. It is also about 15 miles from Berea, the Historic Boone Tavern. We are by the Pinnacle and multiple other hiking and riding trails close by. Information about nearby areas and activities will be provided. Very spacious and comfy with plenty of places to park. There are stairs leading to the front door, there is also a back door with no stairs. Central heat and air as well as a pellet stove.
The cabin is located 1 mile from my house. It is in a very quiet and peaceful area in the mountains. This is an entire cabin, pet friendly with WiFi, Firestick, and a fire pit plus more. The space is suitable for up to 6 people.
  • Great place to stay. Quaint and cute. You are getting a great value

    Graham2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Kaitlyns cabin for one night just to get off the road from travelling. Was a quaint little cabin with lots of privacy. We were pleasantly surprised to see there was coffee pods, lots of towels and blankets for use. We really wish we had more time to explore the area and stay an extra day in the cabin. We will definitely come back 😊

    Alicia2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a wonderfully cozy cabin for a weekend getaway!! The couch and chair were super comfy, the table was perfect for board games and dinner, there’s a fire pit with adorable christmas lights in the tree above it, and the beds were comfortable. The upstairs room has two twin beds plus one rollout twin bed. We brought in everything we needed food-wise and drove ~35 minutes to a nice hike in nearby Daniel Boone National Forest. This couldn’t have been a more perfect spot!!

    Nicole2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

Secluded, yet close to town and college. This home offers a double bed and private bath upstairs, and shared use of gathering, dining, and kitchen spaces, including the refrigerator.
Front porch (gorgeous view) and grounds are also available for guest use, except for area around the other home on the property. The pool is off limits due to health guideline restrictions.
My end of the holler setting means that it is usually quiet here. However, on occasion people hiking the pinnacle feel compelled to offer their voices to the wind.
  • Beautiful place! Highly recommended

    Davis2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • 100/100 stars!  Ah I am so sad I had to leave!  Pat's place blew all my expectations out of the water.  One of my most favorite airbnb's of all time.   First, you will never meet someone as lovely as Pat no matter where you go.  She is full of love and light.  She is knowledgeable on so many topics - from health to social justice to psychology.  I just adored learning from her and also experiencing the BEST sleep of my life because of how she applies health principles to her home!  Ask her more in person you'll love what you learn :) The home is gorgeous and the room is beautiful!  So much privacy as well.  You have basically the second floor to yourself.  There's a study room across from the airbnb bedroom but Pat never used it while I was there.  Impeccably clean everything! If you like warm colors and art you're in for a treat.  If you like being in nature you're in for a treat.  If you like having full amenities you're in for a treat.  Basically you're in for a treat no matter what lol.  It's AMAZING here and you'll be lucky to meet Pat. Just don't book it when I want the room please :). 100/100

    Jas2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Another 100/100 stars of course. Extended my stay and it just kept getting better. Love it here and recommend driving in the daytime so you can enjoy the Kentucky countryside and all the cute houses in the area (and cows and horses)!

    Jas2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Pat's house is as adorable and lovely as herself!

    Kayla2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Pat is a lovely person with a beautiful home set in the forest away from the sounds of roads and cities. I'll definitely come back!

    Molly2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed with Pat on another occasion and appreciate her comfy lodging and communications. We had a change of plans, due to weather and she graciously accepted a modification request for our reservation. We would definatly stay here again.

  • Beautiful home with a nice off the beaten path location. Patricia was great with communication and offered us some great tips for local dinner options. We slept well in our cozy quarters. We hope to visit again soon, since one of our favorite places to hike is nearby.

  • Melody was a great host! The place was nice and secluded getaway. We enjoyed the hospitality and even were offered coffee in the morning.

    Kenny2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing nice couple! We even got a private concert from Mitch and omg he is such a talent!

    Erin2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay. It was so cold and rained and Mitch was kind and let us warm up but the fire in the morning. He also suggested a place for breakfast that was amazing! We will be coming back when it's a bit warmer

    Amanda2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived late on Friday night and Mitch had a campfire going for us. Perfect way to relax after a long drive. The tent had three beds with real mattresses and tons of cozy, heavy blankets. It got down to like 35 at night and there was not heat in the tent but we were all plenty warm. The tent is decorated with little white lights, rugs, and pillows and is a very nice space especially with the sound of rain against the canvas. There is a bathroom and refrigerator for use in Mitch's house which is pretty close to the tent. We had everything we needed and more! Mitch had some great recommendations about where to eat and hike in the area and played us a few beautiful songs on his guitar on Sunday morning while we drank coffee! It was a great experience!

    Kelsey2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • This little gem was exactly what I had hoped for when my camping trip plans went awry due to sudden winter-like weather. I knew nothing about Berea when I booked, I simply went for the hiking (Daniel Boone National Forrest). Melody welcomed me and made sure I had everything I needed to stay warm, to include a space heater. The tent is beautifully decorated. The space is so full of a restful, relaxed, revitalizing energy. It was the perfect place to recharge after full and long days of hiking. The area is quiet and serene. They were both thoughtful and welcoming... I was invited to join for a social gathering and was offered to join them for some food in their home multiple times. Wonderful souls and a wonderful place to stay!

    Amanda2018-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Mitch was such a nice host. He even picked flowers for our anniversary. I recommend bringing extra covers and blankets in the colder months. It was cold but we were just find under thick blankets. It was so cozy and romantic for our anniversary weekend. Less than an hour from KY castle, keeneland, aviation museum and many other restaurants and attractions.

    Emma Caroline2018-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Mitch & River were a warm and wonderful welcoming committee! The property is truly unique— and the accommodations were clean, cozy, and very safe feeling. We loved this spot so much!!! A lucky chance to see a beautiful and less traveled corner of the world!

    Kathryn2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Melody and Mitch's place is as amazing as advertised. We were looking for a relaxing couple's getaway and that's exactly what we got! The property has two wonderfully friendly dogs and has many special corners to relax in while taking in the surroundings. The pinnacle trails are super close and the views are just gorgeous from a short hike. The GPS will guide you to their property but it isn't the most straightforward and if your battery cuts out it can be quite hard. Just make sure when you reach Berea to check your battery and the route. Melody guided us by phone because we reached after dark but it's not hard during the day time. Mitch and Melody are also excellent musicians. We will definitely visit again, and maybe even hear them play together in person.

We are located 7 miles from the town of Berea, which is home to Berea College and the historic Boone Tavern. We listed some of our favorites below! Hiking at the Pinnacles - 4 miles from the cabin; features several trails and beautiful views well worth the couple mile hike it takes to get there. Native Bagel - a family run restaurant that serves homemade bagels and lunch foods made with local produce and ingredients. Noodle Nirvana - a "build your own bowl" pho restaurant that also features local ingredients. Berea Coffee and Tea - a local coffee house Berea College - a liberal arts college that has a beatiful campus Berea Artisan Center - features local art and crafts for sale, also has a cafe Berea College Farm Store - a continuously operating educational farm that has produce and meats available for purchase.

  • A beautiful neighborhood, quiet, and spacious. Thoughtful extras include water in the refrigerator, a well stocked Keurig coffee maker, popcorn and snacks. The Basement is perfect for a small family or a group, and features a large screen TV with a comfortable sectional, a dining area, bedroom, and bath. Matt was courteous and attentive to my needs. I really enjoyed my stay here.

  • A lovely home. A basement, but feels like an apartment. The family was home upstairs and there wasn’t much to hear at at.

  • Matt’s place is awesome! It might be a basement, but it feels like you have an entire apartment to yourself. My husband and I had a great stay snuggling in front of the fireplace and watching tv from the massive flat screen! Perfect stay for a phenomenal value

Leave your troubles behind. Relax and enjoy a little piece of the simple life. All the comforts of home (water, electric, cable, and internet) without all the hustle and bustle of the city. Wake up in the morning to the birds singing. Then fall asleep listening to the crickets and the frogs.
This quiet, quaint, little room is part of our 5 bedroom home, situated on 2.5 acres of beautiful country scenery . It is fully furnished and decorated with an ocean theme containing sea shells and stones from several beaches in South Carolina, Southern California, and Lake Tahoe, NV.
We live on the outskirts of town. It is in the country, but still very close to town. Beautiful, peaceful, scenic, and for the most part quiet.

  • We absolutely loved our stay! It was the cleanest Airbnb I've ever stayed in and beautifully decorated. The bedroom has a google home which I used to play ocean sounds for my toddler to help her sleep as that is what she falls asleep to at home. The stay felt luxurious and the kitchen contained everything you could possibly need. Andrew was quick to respond to any questions I had, I would highly recommend booking this stay!

  • This house was adorable! Clean, comfy, close to restaurants, and Brandon was quick to respond to everything! When I asked about coffee(I stayed 7 days and thought I may run out with what was provided), they ran to the store and bought plenty of coffee within just a few minutes. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion were provided and everything for cooking meals all week. I literally never left the house until I decided to grab a bite in town on my last evening. Try Noodles Nirvana if you stay in Berea. There were mints on the beds and the linens were so fresh! The tv Roku was so easy to use too. It was a great 7-day work/rest trip. I definitely recommend this house!!!

Head past the custom front-door painting and into an interior with original hardwood flooring. Standouts include a remote-control fireplace and subway-tiled kitchen with stainless steel appliances. A wood stove adds a warm glow to the shared patio.
This 1920's shotgun-style four unit apartment building has been completely restored with all modern amenities. The Tenant House has a rich history on Main Street in downtown Richmond.
Walk to the latest downtown venues and jog round nearby parks from this location, directly across from the Richmond Visitors Center. Eastern Kentucky University is also convenient for here, while many places to eat and drink are on the doorstep.
  • Beautiful decor. Every detail was perfect. You want this to be your home away from home . Steps from downtown!

    Beth2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Immaculately clean, modern, comfortable place. I will stay here anytime I am close to Richmond.

    Richard2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful apartment in a great location; walking distance to downtown Richmond and a quick drive to Berea. It was super-easy to check-in, extremely clean and very comfortable. Andrew was responsive and close enough to bring us something we were missing as soon as we asked. We can’t wait to stay again.

    Madi2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I frequently stay at locally owned homes & apartments. Andrew's place was beyond exceptional and better than most any place we have stayed. That includes New Zealand, France (Villefranche-sur-mer, Paris, St. Paul de Vence, several places in Normandy), Manhattan, NYC, Cape Hatteras, New Orleans, Nashville, Vancouver, Seattle, etc. The apartment surprised us with unique and thoughtful touches. Fresh white roses on the dining table. Greeted by a warm fireplace on a drippy February evening. Bottles of infused water. Gorgeous mirrors, lamps, and decor. We had needed an early check-in, which he graciously accommodated. Having limited high-tech skills, we needed help with the remote for the fireplace. Andrew promptly arranged for a skilled technician to explain everything. If you happen to need a place in Richmond for an EKU event or to attend the wonderful performing arts center, or . . . . just to visit in Richmond, the Tenant House will be a very wise choice!

The Wabi Sabi Studio is an eclectic and art-filled 700 sq. ft. cabin with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. Floor to ceiling windows overlook a meandering creek, forested hills, and HomeGrown HideAways, a hundred-acre farm, campground, and event facility. The resident cat, Glenda, won't be much company since she is very shy, but you may catch sight of her if you're lucky. Guests have complete access to the farm, including the rugged 1.5 mile hiking trail and farm tours are available upon request.
The Wabi Sabi Studio is part of HomeGrown HideAways, a hundred-acre farm, campground, and event facility featuring treehouses, yurts, tipi, a playground, and a covered pavilion plus gardens, orchard, chickens, and dogs. The neighbors goats occasionally wander over for a visit and there are tons of wild birds to watch.
HomeGrown HideAways is on a 2 mile dead-end road, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians. Tater Knob pottery is less than 2.5 miles from the farm. If you don't want to drive, it's a nice walk or, if you happen to have your bike with you, you can go for a ride. Tater Knob open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Speaking of bikes, HomeGrown HideAways is just a short jaunt away from the TransAmerican Bicycle Trail. During the summer, you are quite likely to see folks riding through the hills and enjoying the scenery. Sometimes they even come stay with us!
  • We had a wonderful weekend in this cozy cabin! Would highly recommend for a quiet, peaceful trip!

    Jaclyn2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Wabi-Sabi studio is a charming space with all the amenities and beautiful views. It has all you need-an some more. Even the lack of a cell phone connection is a blessing when you are unplugging for a weekend. The cabin is full of details, beautiful objects, and art, which made us feel at home. Thank you for all the cozy details! We will be back for sure.

    Anne-Marie2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to unplug and spend time being comforted this is the place. It is such a cozy, warm and nurturing environment perfect for resetting and recharging. Enjoy cuddling up with a book and a hot cup of chamomile in front of the fire, soak in a warm relaxing bubble bath in the beautiful claw foot tub and then sink in to the comfortable bed for a peaceful nights sleep where you wake up to the enchanting views of this beautiful land. I will definitely be back.

  • The Wabi Sabi studio is perfect for a quiet weekend. The cozy cabin was a great little space with so many cool things on the walls to look at. Mary Ellen has a really interesting style. If you want somewhere to escape of a while, this is perfect for you; there’s no service out in the hills so we weren’t bothered by work calls or news of any sort (though there is a phone in case of emergencies). Loved the stay, would definitely come back!

  • Good place to stay

    Linju2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Having been to Homegrown Hideaways several times before, I knew that the accommodations and welcoming hosts would be nothing less than warm, welcoming, and beyond any expectations I would have. I had never stayed in Mary Ellen's but I have to say, the cabin was all those things and more! Extremely comfortable and full of life. Filled with personal treasures from all over the world, it was exciting to know so much adventure is represented in a place perfect for rest and relaxation. Jessa and Nathan have always been the most hospitable of hosts and Mary Ellen's place fits perfectly with the magic and wonder yo be found in all parts of Homegrown Hideaways. Will definitely be returning for another visit soon!

    Shane2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Loved it. The cottage is an eclectic retreat, with all amenities for a perfect journey. Every interesting piece, picture, postcard, book, right down to a crow, keeps you intrigued as if you were staying in a museum. Spent the evening exploring the creek and playing with rocks, lol. No internet or phone service needed here. Perfect getaway spot, unwind and rejuvenate. Visited the tiny town, excited to bring my family back for a fall visit.

Lovely view off the back patio area to the stream and woods right behind. Plenty of room for as many as three couples or a gang of horrible children. Holly is very attentive if needed but is aware to make sure you feel like you got your space.

  • I loved Laura’s hospitality and consideration! I was travelling for work and exploring and it was easy being in and out without being loud and disruptive. Laura always made me feel like there was someone depend on to answer any time-sensitive questions. They would also offer coffee in the mornings, something I wish I had the time to do, as John and Laura were just wonderful and understanding people! A small touch: I arrived in cold weather, and it was so nice to have both a space heater and a fan depending on what was needed. It’s a small thing, but it was something I really valued. I hope to revisit them in the future!

A 209 sq. ft. cabin nestled on a hillside behind our farmhouse with a beautiful view. It's a 'Primitive Plus' cabin meaning that it is an off-grid cabin but has an outhouse style bathroom only a few steps from the cabin with a toilet and an old clawfoot tub for a quick rinse in the summer months. The 'Plus' is the capability of charging a cell phone, tablet or computer during your stay for a bit of modern convenience. The perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature!
Please note that we do not have cell phones and only check messages as time permits therefore we may not see a last minute request. Our apologies for the inconvenience. Mountain View Retreat is a tiny off-grid cabin - meaning there is no electricity or running water in the cabin. There is a water catchment system of collecting rain water into barrels for grey water use in the outhouse and for a quick shower during the summer months. The outhouse features a composting toilet but requires some effort to wash hands. One must fill a bucket with collected rainwater just outside the outhouse to fill the sink to wash their hands. There is also a wash stand inside the cabin that can be filled with some water for hand or face washing. The cabin is NOT recommended for guests who aren't comfortable with wildlife, bugs or a country setting, and/or if the lack of modern conveniences does not sound appealing or adventurous for a night or two! Inside the cabin are two twin XL beds, a table & chairs, books, games and a wood burning stove. We have provided a Portable Power Bank where one can charge small gadgets, operate the coffee grinder and where we have a lamp plugged in. We will provide Spring water to drink or use for coffee or tea, coffee beans, a coffee grinder for that perfect course grind, tea, sugar, creamer and a basket of fruit and snacks as well as towels and wash cloths. Outside, there's a gas grill for your use and a fire pit. (We provide utensils for grilling, paper plates & plastic utensils.) You can sit on the deck and enjoy the view or wander through the woods. And, the ole 'outhouse' is a few steps off the deck. There is plenty of room to wander and explore or you can simply sit and read, play games, write a book, paint the view or just unwind and absorb the mountain view!
Our neighborhood is in the country where you may hear a rooster crow, a cow moo, dogs barking, the occasional 4-wheeler zipping down the road or a tractor -possibly ours or a neighbors. During hunting season you may hear some gun shots in the distance. We are equidistant from Richmond, Irvine or Berea (about a 25 minute drive). BEREA - shopping, dining and home to Berea College. Located just south of Lexington, KY, Berea is home to a thriving population of weavers, instrument makers, furniture artisans, jewelry designers, glass workers, potters, painters, sculptors and musicians. The story of Berea’s artisan community is interwoven with the historic Berea College, the first interracial and coeducational college in the South. Berea has a longstanding tradition of diversity, social justice, environmental responsibility and community service. Both college and town are committed to the practice of sustainability and conservation. IRVINE - kayaking, shopping, dining, Cottage Furnace, Fitchburg Furnace, and home of The Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation. RICHMOND - shopping, EKU, entertainment, fishing, golf, and more RED RIVER GORGE & THE NATURAL BRIDGE - hiking, climbing, zip line, and more - 55 min LEXINGTON - 1 hour
  • I surprised my husband for his birthday here for a quick overnight after a long day of hiking (in the rain). Being used to off-grid type places we thought this place looked great and we were right! This cabin has a wood burning stove that warmed us up fast. Suzi makes fresh banana bread for you to enjoy with coffee they also provide. The beds were really comfortable and clean too. It was a lovely place to be during a rainstorm. The following morning was filled with sweet sounds and views of birds passing by the cabin windows. Very relaxing- didn't want to leave. The owners were just lovely and we cannot wait to take another break and relax here. Thanks again!

  • Excellent weekend getaway for those looking for a simple off-the-grid lifestyle to disconnect. Take time to read through the description of the property. They list basically everything you need to know, and are clear about what to expect. I plan to return here!

  • 10/10. This is a follow up to my original review - OUTSTANDING so i extended and stayed longer! Loved it. Kindly see other review. xo

  • Amazing experience from start to finish. Top 3 reasons I loved it: Magic: nothing quite so beautiful as enjoying the full moon lighting up the night, and looking down a rolling hill at the fog and backdrop of Kentucky mountains.  Very expansive and peaceful at the same time! Hosts;  a couple who is exceedingly kind, lovely, professional, who thought of absolutely everything. This was my best off grid experience!  These hosts provide absolutely everything including detailed instructions on how to start a fire and all the materials you need. They also situated this cabin far away from anything so it's a good respite from radiation, electric poles, etc if you are into the health side of being off grid (which I am) Comfort and beauty: the cabin is so spacious and pretty.  I didn't feel like I was roughing it.  Felt like I was in a cabin that's about to be featured in "best cottages of America 2020".  Also very, very fun to boil water for tea or noodle soup on the fireplace (they provide a tea kettle too).  I felt like a happy hobbit :D Recommended more than I express.  Lovely!

  • The stay at Ronnie and Suzie's place was everything we expected and more! They made us feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment we pulled up. The cabin and area around it was clean, cozy, and serene. The cabin's location is perfectly situated up one of the mountains behind their house so not only do you get a great view, but also a feeling of safety and seclusion. While we were there, we kept plotting our next visit and how we needed to buy some land and have a place like it ourselves.. But, likely it will just be another visit : ) The last thing I will say that I loved was getting to do some things I have never done before, like lighting and maintaining (or attempting to maintain) a wood burning stove and using a composting toilet. Overall, it was a great stay and we would highly recommend it to others looking to get away!

    Shelby2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb experience has been my favorite to date! Ronnie and Suzi were incredible hosts, and have thought of everything you might need (and want) in this primitive cabin experience. We visited on a very rainy weekend, and they offered the use of their side by side to make the trek up the hillside to the cabin, which was a built-in adventure in itself and a huge talking point already with friends and family! The stove kept us warm all throughout our stay; being off-the-grid was far from uncomfortable, and in fact provided connection to simple joys like maintaining our own fire, grinding and brewing fresh coffee (not from a k-cup), and playing board games in the quaint glow of kerosene lamps. If you’re looking for a memorable Airbnb experience and not just a bed to lay your head, I highly recommend Ronnie and Suzi’s cabin!

    Rachel2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful getaway stay at this Airbnb. It’s perfect for a mountain getaway away from city life. The cabin is thoughtfully put together with everything you’d need for a cozy night in. My husband and I enjoyed our night playing checkers by oil lantern and stayed warm by the wood burning stove. Anyone looking for an adventure in rustic, clean, and cozy cabin, this is the place!

    Brianna2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful small cabin is Beautiful and exceptionally clean with all the right touches. So cozy and warm with an ambient glow. Totally private and secluded. Ronnie and Suzi are wonderful hosts who truly care about their guests. They are available if you need them but otherwise allow you the privacy that this cabin has to offer. If you want a peaceful stay with a beautiful view...this is the perfect cabin for you. It is primitive but don’t let that discourage you because they have all the right amenities to make your stay comfortable. From the wood burning stove, lamps, composting toilet, comfortable beds, and brand new cabin...you’ll never know you were in a primitive environment. One of the best Airbnb’s we have ever experienced and we have rented our share. We will be visiting again soon.

The Treetop Flyer is a one-room treehouse with a loft, wrap-around porch, and lower deck. There are 2 full-sized, fold-out futons on the main floor and 2 full-sized mattresses in the loft. There is no plumbing or electric, but there are battery-powered lanterns, spring water, a propane fireplace, and an outhouse. There is a centrally-located, shared-use kitchen for guests and a seasonal (Apr - Nov) bath house with flush toilets and showers. View the photos and captions for details.
HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred acre holler in the beautiful Red Lick Valley near Berea, Ky. We have all the good (beautiful views, babbling brook, hiking trails) and the bad (insects, barking dogs, poison ivy) that nature has to offer so come prepared. We recommend hiking boots, bug spray, and jackets for cool nights. The interior of the Treetop Flyer is complete with 4 double beds, pillows, sheets, and light blankets (2 futons that fold open on the main floor and 2 mattresses in the loft), barnwood table with 2 benches for eating and playing games, and a jug of spring water. There is a propane fireplace for heat, but no plumbing or electric (lanterns included). The Treetop Flyer is mostly complete aside from a bit of detail work left on the stair rail, patio furniture, and a driveway (hence the short walk up the hill to get to it). The outhouse is just a few short strides away from the treehouse and the seasonal bath house is about a 2 minute walk (open April - October). The Courtesy Kitchen is about halfway between the treehouse and the bath house. It has a stovetop, double ovens (one convection), microwave, coffee maker (and organic coffee), spring water, toaster, refrigerator, plus pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery.
HomeGrown HideAways is on a 2 mile dead-end road, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians. Tater Knob pottery is ~3 miles from the farm. If you don't want to drive, it's a nice walk or, if our bikes are functioning properly, you can go for a ride. Tater Knob open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • HomeGrown, did not disappoint! This was our second visit to the farm, but first staying in the treehouse. We are already looking at the calendar, anxiously anticipating when we can return and bring our twins with us. Being off the grid, non-accessible, submersed in nature is thee most perfect mental break and rejuvenation any mind, body and soul would need. You’ll find it here, guaranteed!

    Cynthia2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Was looking for a place to disconnect and get off of the grid and in the Lords presence. This was a wonderful spot to do that at. Incredible people and awesome treehouse. Will definitely be back!

  • Exceeds expectations! Can't beat the hospitality and fresh air.

    Aaron2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really neat place in a beautiful setting. The hosts were the perfect blend of being nice and friendly, but still giving you your space. Very peaceful. Beautiful cabin.

    Matthew2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Homegrown Hideaways Tree House Flyer is so snug and comfortable. The amenities and necessities are all ideal for an outdoor experience that is both rustic-outdoorsy and cozy,-comfortable. The facilities are accurately described on the site. There is as much outdoor decking space as indoor space ( maybe even more) and much of it stays dry in rainy weather. The indoor space converts between living and sleeping space easily. Super clean, with very comfortable linens. We loved the presence of dogs, chickens and the neighbor's goats. And it was exciting to see all the ways Homegrown Hideaways is set for future development as a camping hollow with its bright, capable and welcoming hosts. We really appreciated how easy they make it to live with a lighter environmental footprint.

    Lisa2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing Valentine weekend. Jessa and Nathan were amazing hosts and took time to accommodate to any needs that we needed. We were blown away by the hospitality. We will definitely be visiting again this summer!

    Ashley2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place was gorgeous! Jessa and Nathan were two of the kindest people I’ve ever met. I loved the tour Jessa gave us around the place, it felt like a home away from home. I’m very happy I found this little treasure in Berea!

    Alyssa2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • The treetop flyer could not have been a more perfect setting for a weekend off the grid. The fireplace kept us warm, even in the snow, and the hosts were incredibly kind, responsive, and accommodating. The treehouse was amazing and the whole experience was a perfect, cozy escape in a truly gorgeous setting!

Our massive 24-foot tipi can sleep up to 10 people and has a fire pit inside for chilly nights. It is centrally located within the playground making it a great spot for kids! The Tipi is a bring-your-own-bedding situation. There is a wooden futon frame that can hold an air mattress or we also have rental cots for $5 each per night. We've recently upgraded the dirt floor to pea gravel. In a heavy storm, the tipi will likely drip water so guests have access to "The Nook" as a plan B.

Cool space with lots unique features, including its very own water wheel! 1 bedroom, open floor plan, sleeps 2-4. Close to hiking, crafts, Berea College, with beautiful views, and within a short drive to lots of central Kentucky destinations.
Richard Martin, a green designer/builder in the Berea area for more than 30 years, built the 'Little House' in the mid-'90s as his personal residence. The house has unique features of the house (including its very own water wheel!) and is perfect for that couple's get-away or writer's retreat. The home features passive solar design with windows spanning the south side of the home with loads of natural light. The open floor plan includes a loft bedroom that overlooks the living area. If you are looking for a unique place to stay, with beautiful views, close to hiking and outdoor activities, and within a short drive to lots of central Kentucky destinations, this is it!
The house is located outside of Berea. Known as the "Folk Arts and Crafts capital of Kentucky", Berea is home to a thriving population of weavers, instrument makers, furniture artisans, jewelry designers, glass workers, potters, painters, sculptors, and musicians. The story of Berea’s artisan community is interwoven with the historic Berea College, the first interracial and coeducational college in the South. Berea has a longstanding tradition of diversity, social justice, environmental responsibility, and community service. Both college and town are committed to the practice of sustainability and conservation, so you can see why Mr. Martin's skills were in high demand. Berea College owns and maintains over 8,000 acres of forest, including numerous hiking trails within a few miles of the house. Berea is located in central Kentucky, 40 miles south of Lexington, on the border of Bluegrass Region and the Cumberland Plateau in the foothills of Kentucky's Appalachian mountains. Berea is located in the southern end of Madison County, which is one of the fastest growing areas in Kentucky. It is rich in heritage and history. The County is unique in that it has two townships, Berea, and the larger, Richmond, just 12 miles to the north. The County sits next to Fayette County with the Kentucky River as its border. The northern end of the county just is minutes away from Lexington.
  • One of the best places we ever stayed in. The record collection in the cabin alone is worth the drive to Berea. We'd gladly stay there again!

    John2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a great place to go and kind of escape society for a bit. The view is gorgeous and the house is very quiet and relaxing.

  • Great place to stay and enjoy the peacefulness!!

    Barry2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place for two. Very private, which is good because there are no drapes. Stairs are a challenge, inside and out. Inside hand rail does not allow one to hold on while descending without removing your Hand and regripping between the pickets. To me it felt awkward.

    James2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Little House served as the perfect anniversary getaway. The home has so many cool, unique touches and is inviting and comfy (including the bed, which is super comfy) - and the views from the deck are amazing. We enjoyed starting our days drinking coffee on the deck, shopping and dining in Berea (just a short drive) during the day and early evening, then sipping wine while star gazing on the deck at night. Idyllic!

    Missy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rated place as expected because this is our second stay here and likely won’t be our last so we knew what to expect. Husband does business in Berea and this place is better than a hotel. Private, quiet, clean and comfortable. Lots of bright windows to let nature in. Great porch space with view to enjoy the outdoors. Fully stocked kitchen and linens. Only thing I don’t like is no window treatments but it really allows the outside in and we’ve only seen one soul in both our trips here - the landscaper - so it’s really not that big of a deal. Nathan and Shannan have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. Highly recommend.

Bring your friends and your tent or hammock! Primitive sites aren't designated - you can camp just about anywhere on our hundred acre farm. Choose to stay close to the kitchen and bath-house or hike up the mountain for privacy and seclusion. Campers can use the large, communal fire pit near the pavilion or bring a portable, above-ground version. Wood can be gathered for free from the forest or purchased in bundles. (We do not provide tents). Utility sites also available.

  • We love visiting Homegrown Hideaways so much! Thank you again to our hosts who are warm, welcoming and just lovely people. And the farm is so beautiful too! Picturesque but cozy too. We adore it!

  • It offers a great variety of camping opportunities -- from a teepee, to a tree-house, to your own tent set up in a primitive field. The hosts and dogs are friendly and unobtrusive. The night sky was amazing!!! I only wish that I could have spent more time there to explore the trails and enjoy a bonfire.

    Kelly2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • One of my favorite places!

    Sarah2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at HomeGrown HideAway's and I loved it even more than the first time. I took the tent camping option--much cheaper than sleeping at a park campground and a lot more amenities. If you want you can use their kitchen to cook food, and there's a big fridge with plenty of space. It's quiet and beautiful on their property and if I hadn't had to keep traveling I would have stayed longer. Definitely my first choice for an inexpensive, lovely outdoors option in Berea. I can't wait to try one of their other options, like the tipi or the airstream.

    Jen2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts! We loved the hiking trail and having the host's dogs join us as our "guide" dogs. Amenities were just what you needed. They gave us great recommendations of local places to hike and visit. We really hope to come back one day.

  • This is a fantastic property for whatever a traveler is looking for, be it an outdoor experience or a safe place to lay your head between drives. The hosts are exceptionally friendly and care deeply about what they're doing (plus their dogs are super friendly!). I would recommend this place to anyone interested.

  • If you are on the fence about booking with Homegrown Hideaways, DO IT! This place is paradise on earth. My fiancé and I stayed here in the midst of the COVID-19 fiasco, and it was so nice to get away from the chaos of the world. Nathan and Jessa are phenomenal hosts and will make you feel right at home. Don’t hesitate, enjoy peace here!

  • My partner and I were planning on celebrating our anniversary over a weekend mini vacay when we decided spontaneously to make our destination this beautiful place. The hostess was incredible, very accommodating and pleasant, and we had just the most magical evening/morning. The sky was clear and full of stars when we arrived, the night air was crisp and full of the quiet sounds of nature, the creek that runs through the property provides a gentle backdrop to everything, and the treehouse yurt itself was just lovely. Super cozy, clean, welcoming space with beautiful views, many comforting details, and meaningful art. What a powerful, connecting, and healing place - a perfect getaway to relax into a deep sense of peace.

Treat yourself to a private getaway in this barn-house that combines country living with easy access to the best of Berea and McKee. From relaxing in the bright and airy sunporch while sipping on your morning coffee provided by the Keurig, to watching your favorite shows in the cozy TV room, you’ll certainly want to stay a while.
This structure was once my great-uncle’s barn. Several years ago the barn was converted into a dwelling. We have recently completed the sunporch, and updated the barn-house to make it even more comfortable and enjoyable. We have a queen-size bed, a full-size bed, and when needed a full-size air mattress. We provide a DVD player and a smart TV so guests can log into their Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. The kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook a great meal, but you will need to bring your own food. We provide coffee, small snacks, and locally-sourced bottled water. Nearby is a 24-hour convenience gas station, with a small restaurant that serves food all day (breakfast is served until approximately 10 a.m.). My personal favorite is the “Hunt Brothers” thin crust pizza. We are 10 minutes from The Pinnacles hiking trails in Berea. We are less then 15 minutes from Berea College, historic Boone Tavern restaurant, and PapaLeno’s Italian restaurant. The nearest Walmart is 20 minutes away. We are 10 minutes from the courthouse in McKee, and 20 minutes from Flat Lick Falls in Gray Hawk.

  • This place is truly awesome. It has a great country decor. The house was immaculate. We had fun playing pool in the sunroom. There was supplies for just about every need. Chad (host) was very quick to respond to everything (within minutes). This is great place to stay to get away from everyday routine.

  • The Barn on the Hill provided a peaceful, comfortable weekend getaway. The dwelling is on beautiful farm property, and is a great base from which to explore the town of Berea and local hiking trails. Chad was an excellent communicator from start to finish, and recommended that I visit the Pinnacles at Indian Fort Theater, located between his place and Berea. I had a great time hiking there. Accommodations were comfortable, super clean, and cozy, and offer every modern amenity one could want. The selection of lotions, soaps, was also a thoughtful touch. If we are ever in the Berea again, I’d jump at the opportunity to stay at the Barn on the Hill!

  • Everything was beautiful. No details left out from snacks and local water to everything you need while away from home.

  • Cute and cozy! Out of town setting but close to anything you would need!

  • Chad's home is absolutely perfect. My husband and I were lucky enough to find it last minute on a road trip and wish we'd had more time to stay. The home is immacuately decorated, and we cooked a fantastic meal in the kitchen that had every tool we would've needed. We played many rounds of pool, and the bed and pillows were so comfortable we had to peek at the brands so we could snag them once we were home. ALSO, the rolling hills behind the home were so lovely to walk at golden hour. Chad was super responsive on all inquiries. If we find our way in KY again, we will definitely return! THANK YOU!

  • Chad’s place is great! Super clean and really stylish. There’s a pool table in the sun room and although we were only one couple, I would like to rent this space again with friends. His communication was quick and thorough. We had a really nice stay.

The Nook is a secluded, off-grid, screened-in porch nestled between the forest and a creek. It's very rustic, but has a futon bunk (single top, full-size bottom) as well as 2 more full-size futons. There are mattresses on the full-sized beds, but you'll need to bring your own sleeping bag We're in the process of upgrading it from its former life as a tent and will update pictures. Note: Parking is across the creek from the site so you will need to walk across a bridge to access the Nook.
HomeGrown HideAways is a hundred acre holler in the beautiful Red Lick Valley near Berea, Ky. We have all the good (beautiful views, babbling brook, hiking trails) and the bad (insects, noisy roosters, poison ivy) that nature has to offer so come prepared. We recommend hiking boots, bug spray, and jackets for cool nights.
Tater Knob pottery is less than 2.5 miles from the farm. If you don't want to drive, it's a nice walk or, if our bikes are functioning properly, you can go for a ride. Tater Knob open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Speaking of bikes, HomeGrown HideAways is just a short jaunt away from the TransAmerican Bicycle Trail. During the summer, you are quite likely to see folks riding through the hills and enjoying the scenery. Sometimes they even come stay with us!
  • Our family stayed at the nook and yome for 1 night. We had 2 adults (the grandparents from AZ) in the yome and 4 adults + 6 kids in the nook. We set up camp at the yome since it had a nice area for the kids to play, water, outhouse, and fire pit. Everyone slept in the nook comfortably with the addition of an air mattress and the grandparents loved the Yome. We had a wonderful experience and can't want to stay there in the future!

  • My husband took the kids camping last minute and they had a blast! We enjoy visiting the farm, have plans to return in October with family, and recommend to all our friends.

  • HomeGrown HideAways was exactly what I was looking for. Remote enough to be quiet and dark, but close enough to take part in the happenings in Berea. I will definitely stay there again.
