Places to stay in Bovey Tracey

Places to stay in Bovey Tracey
In a peaceful, charming Devon hamlet, a converted bakery near to a 15th Century thatched cottage, with lovely views. Corona Virus update: After the Government's advice issued on the 23rd of March 2020 about travel bans and self-isolation at home, we are sadly not taking any bookings for the foreseeable future. We hope this is all as short-lived as possible and we hope to open as soon as it is permitted.
The room was last used as a bakery in the 1950s and still has much of the original bread oven. Recently converted with a modern shower room. Kitchenette with kettle, toaster and small refrigerator. Cooking facilities of microwave and fast induction hob. There is a very comfortable kingsize bed and a 4ft sofa bed for an adult or two small children. An optional cosy bunk bed (full length) above the old oven at the back of the Bakery can serve as an extra bed. Travel cot also available. Breakfast: Breakfast is provided for you in the Bakery for you to eat at your own leisure. This includes local free range eggs, bread, brioches, muesli and cereal, yoghurt, fruit and a selection of jams and honey. We also provide teas, coffee, milk and fruit juice. Use of washing machine, dryer and larger fridge/freezer in laundry outhouse.
We are 8 miles from Exeter and 10 miles from Moretonhampstead, "The Gateway to the Moor". There are many excellent walks nearby and Haldon Forest is 8 minutes away with its many cycle tracks. There is a choice of excellent pubs locally. 9 minutes from the A38 and 12 minutes from the A30.
  • The Old Bakehouse is a compact but comfortable place to stay - just as listed. Ben and Libby are great hosts and they provide those little extras such as cereals, bread and eggs for breakfast which are particularly welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the opportunity to explore the area.

  • We absolutely loved our stay at the old bakehouse, it exceeded our expectations, it is cosy but there is enough space to stretch out, the bed is extremely comfortable and the views from the bed are beautiful. It is really peaceful and we had 2 great nights sleep, we took our small dog with us and Ben and Libby were very accommodating, they provided us with walk suggestions and we went on a lovely walk up the Teign river and the daffodils were out in full force! we had dinner and lunch and two lovely local pubs The Nobody Inn and The Manor Inn - the food was delicious and they allowed our dog Doris in as well :-) All in all I would highly recommend staying in this lovely bakehouse. Kind regards Harriet

  • What a wonderful cottage, set in a beautifully peaceful part of Devon. The cottage had everything we needed and so nice to have some of the basic provisions ready for us on arrival. We spent the weekend walking on Dartmoor, and this cottage was an ideal and cosy base. Thoroughly recommend it.

  • A warm welcome and beautifully clean. A great location for exploring the nearby woods. Don't expect to cook a big meal as the kitchen is very compact, but it is beautifully clean and well equipped, and we were pleasantly surprised by the nice touches left for us by the hosts.

AN ISOLATED LOCATION!! Luxurious and romantic, spacious holiday cottage in South Devon's rolling countryside. Excellent links to Exeter (15 miles) Dartmoor (8 miles) and the coast (4 miles) If you are looking for a quiet and romantic break, then really don’t look any further. If you’re looking for long country walks and great country pubs. We have them. Plus easy reach of the Dartmoor National Park, beautiful sandy beaches and Torquay marina.
Daisy Wheels has been converted from an old barn into a luxurious holiday cottage. The historical 'daisy wheels' have been preserved in the master bedroom and are Listed as Grade 2 with English Heritage. Spring has certainly sprung now- we have had two lambs born (end May 2018) and now we have nesting swallows and our chickens are sitting on their eggs too! Come and feed a lamb and look at the swallows. We have sensitively developed this barn over the summer of 2017 into a spacious 1 bedroom cottage, complete with a fully fitted kitchen: integrated fridge (and freezer compartment), dishwasher, oven, microwave and a coffee machine with complimentary coffee capsules. The open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room has a woodburner with a first pack of complimentary logs and kindling for you to enjoy a cosy evening in. Don’t worry if you run out as you can purchase an extra bundle of logs from us for £3. Upstairs, the bespoke staircase rises to the huge master en suite bedroom with our humongous copper bath. Be patient when filling the bath, as it is so big- it can take 15 mins to fill! Whilst waiting, the Super King sized four poster is a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the country views. We have a dressing table, with hair drier and some fantastic bed side tables, which we made from some milk churns. The en suite shower room has a larger walk in shower with a 12 inch shower head and of course a copper basin which was once a jam making pot in France, before we adapted it be used as a basin. The house which dates back to the late 13th Century sits within just over 2 acres of private grounds, which our guests are more than welcome to walk over and enjoy the paddocks, cider orchard and rocky outcrops. The view from the top of the hill is fantastic.
We live in a very peaceful and quite rural hamlet in South Devon, yet with easy access to the road networks. Two very good pubs are within walking distances, The Royal Oak in 0.9 miles and The Elizabethan in 1.8 miles. There are plenty of enjoyable walks in the area, our favourite being along a stream, through the woodland to The Elizabethan pub.
  • We had a great stay at James’s place. The air bnb looks beautiful and the location is ideal for using as a base to explore the surrounding area of Devon. Have recommended it to all my friends!

    Sophie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful location. Bring your wellies if you enjoy country walks. Make sure you make time for at least one bath - it’s fabulous!

  • What a perfect and relaxing valentines weekend. If you are contemplating booking this cottage for a romantic weekend, just do it. You will not regret it. I can not fault anything about our stay - it was perfect. The bath is absolutely massive! Thank you so much. We will be back! X

  • Beautiful place, amazingly relaxing and an amazing spot for a special occasion.

    David2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re thinking of staying here, stop thinking and BOOK IT! From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt at home. Such thoughtful touches (Christmas tree, tea/coffee etc. and eggs from the lovey chickens), super clean and so peaceful. The family live next door and although James was on hand to help with anything, there was no intrusion at all, which was perfect. There’s WiFi, a smart tv, the bath is ginormous (honestly, the pictures don’t do it justice!) and the kitchen is well equipped. I wish I could have stayed for longer. It really is a very special little place :)

The internet was fantastic and all 8 of us had no troubles surfing the internet etc. There are shops within a 10 minute drive and we went on some stunning walks, all of which were within 30 mins of the cottage! 10/10 must recommend!

Breakfast is not included. A Widecombe is a historic village, with its parish church rightly known as the cathedral of the moor. it is also home to the famous widecombe fair. The area is surrounded by beautiful Tors and streams. Hidden valleys contain the remains of many past settlements, from medieval villages destroyed by the black death, to stone age and bronze age hut circles. the world famous Merrivale stone row is only half hours drive away. Horse riding and canoeing are also popular local activities. surrounding villages and towns offer regular farmers markets, with a taste of local (website hidden) most of these villages you will find a warm welcome in their tearooms and inns. the larger villages also home their own traditional country fair, emphasising country music and folk dancing. Many of Dartmoors long distance walks pass this way, including the very popular two moor way which links the south Dartmoor coast with the Exmoor coast. Best to bring your own car to really indulge your self here on the moors.
once out of our gate you are on open moor. we are on the side of Wind Tor and the route of the Two Moors way. plenty of cattle, sheep and ponies all around us. It takes a little longer, but it is possible to walk to the village across the moor instead of country lanes. We have plenty of maps and guide books to help you! Also in bad weather we can loan you raincoat and wellington boots. Hopefully not needed.
  • We had a great time at Miho's place. Miho and her husband were very nice and we really enjoyed Dartmoor park and the surrounding area.

    Jure2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Miho and Peter are great hosts and Berrymoor is in a wonderful location, right on the edge of the moor and with the most stunning views. Widecombe is just a five minute drive away and has two great pubs, and Haytor and Hound Tor are also close by (plus many other smaller tors besides), which are great fun to scramble up. Recommend the Ullacombe Farm Shop and cafe between Haytor and Bovey Tracy - great for breakfast on check out day! The National Trust’s Parke Estate just outside Bovey also had a nice-looking cafe - sadly we were just too late to try it out; it closes at 4pm during the winter season. We hope very much to return to Berrywood in the future. Many thanks for your hospitality Miho and Peter (... not forgetting Rusty the cat!)

    Ruth2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • We were very comfortable at Berrywood for the 9 nights we stayed in mid October. It was lovely and warm to come back to at the end of a day’s walking on beautiful Dartmoor, especially if we had got caught in a rain shower, which you do get a few of! It is perfectly situated, high up to take advantage of the beautiful views across the valley towards Top Tor. You can walk straight out onto the Moor - go up behind the cottage, to Wind Tor and then on and on for miles across beautiful moorland. You can also walk over the Moor to Widecombe to the pubs or cafes. When we arrived Miho had left some lovely extras for us, a sweet treat after the journey, breakfast cereals, bread, butter, milk and eggs. There were also teabags and ground coffee in the well equipped kitchen. The fresh flowers were a lovely touch. The shower in the bathroom is very good and there is always lots of hot water. Peter and Miho are excellent hosts, very welcoming, with extensive knowledge of the Moor and gave us lots of tips and advice on good places to walk if we needed it. And we enjoyed a special evening with them at a music event in the next village. In the cottage there is also a vast library of maps and literature to help plan your stay. I must just mention the stunning views from the main bedroom window. Always changing with the weather, it was so relaxing to drink a cup of tea and watch the landscape changing beneath the amazing skies. Thank you Miho and Peter!

    Rosemary2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • All five-star ratings are rather unpleasant, but Berrywood Cottage and Miho's hospitality were just right. A trip to Dartmoor, which has always been a dream, became the best memory. I'm really thankful to you! I would like to revisit again.

    Eriko2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The morning and evening views from the large windows in the bedroom are the best whether it is cloudy or sunny. The view of the nomadic sheep and the hail is also fantastic. The kitchen was complete and I wanted to cook using the oven if I had time. Personally, the point is that there are a lot of towels! It was really helpful to have the laundry serviced! !

    Nami2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage with stunning views. We were welcomed warmly by the host on arrival and shown very graciously around and informed of where everything was. The host also left some very tasty treats for us in the kitchen.

  • Fantastic quiet beautiful location with great hosts!

    Bella2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very comfortable cottage in an amazing location. Miho and Peter were very kind and careful hosts and we felt very much at home as soon as we arrived. There were generous provisions for breakfast and the house had everything we needed for our stay.

Sophie & Jim welcome you to Swallerton Gate Annex self-catering accommodation. It is part of a 17th century thatched cottage that used to be an old inn. The annex was once stables hundreds of years ago, but is now fully furnished with kitchenette, shower room & a comfortable double room. There is a small double sofa bed which can take up to two people for a short term. We are situated in the heart of Dartmoor, next to Hound Tor. Beautiful surroundings, walks & views aplenty. Dogs Welcome!
Double Bed in bedroom Shower & loo kitchenette, dining table, tv, internet (not the best as we are at the end of the line and have no fibre optic!) and sofa bed in font room
We are in the heart of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. We highly recommend the following pubs/eateries in the area: Hound of the Basket Meals (burger bar in Hound Tor car park) The Rugglestone Inn (Widecombe-in-the-Moor) The Old Inn (Widecombe "") The Kestor Inn (Manaton - excellent Sunday carvery in particular) The Tinpickle & Rhum (Haytor) The Rock Inn (Ilsington) But there are many more excellent places to eat a short drive away! There are many attractions (other than the amazing walking/riding/cycling around here) such as Becky Falls (Manaton), Sexton's House (Widecombe), House of Marbles (Bovey Tracey)
  • What a find! A great little place in the middle of Dartmoor to get away from it all and a great base for good hikes in the local area. Sophie was a fantastic host and even baked us a fresh loaf of bread to enjoy during our stay, a fantastic personal touch! Want to go walking in Dartmoor and need a place to stay, STAY AT SOPHIES!

    Christopher2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This space is amazing! Such a lovely area and an amazing place to stay! The fire was great and the homemade bread was an thoughtful touch! Would recommend this to anyone

    Alice2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great Airbnb! Sophie was an amazing host! We even ended up going to the pub for trivia. The bread and butter were great. Just an FYI- there aren’t any general stores nearby so if there is something you want, bring it with you. Beautiful location right in the heart of Dartmoor though.

    Jennifer2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Really perfect location. Wet and wild weekend but you would never know once you've closed the door. A true Dartmoor experience with lots of walks from the door. Perfect weekend escape last minute. Just what the doctor ordered

    Louise2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sophie was a wonderfully attentive host, with quick replies and great suggestions for the local area; and her home baked bread was a real treat on arrival. The Annex was delightful, beautifully quaint and just what you need for a quiet week away in Dartmoor. We'll be back...

    Charlotte2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place, with a wonderful host in a wonderful location, really can't praise it enough! Sophie is thoughtful and attentive, even making us fresh bread for when we arrived and giving us eggs straight from the chickens which roam the garden (thanks Sophie!). The annex is clean, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and located about 400m from Hound Tor is in a pretty spectacular location. Would recommend to anyone, and will definitely be coming back! Also if you do book here (which I highly recommend), make sure you play the Dartmoor board game in the annex, we did on a whim and it was one of the best boardgames we've ever played, a great way to spend an evening.

    Thomas2020-02-04T00:00:00Z

Our Shepherds hut is located on the gentler edge of Dartmoor on a stud farm, with unique views of the Wray valley.
Walking distance to Moretonhampstead, at night you may need a torch.
Moretonhampstead is a moorland town buzzing with activity, it has many places to eat from traditional English food to genuine Italian. Not to mention the great motor museum, August carnival, music festivals and much more.
  • Really pretty hut, convenient location for walking on the moors.

    Debbie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was a February weekend of changeable weather and we needed welly boots to get to the Shepherd’s Hut but once there... wow! A clean, beautifully presented interior with all mod cons including wifi, hot water, shower and a lovely wood-burning fire.

    Debbie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had some amazing time there, even though it was raining non-stop. It is very quiet, very relaxing. The hut is not big, but all the facilities are great. Even the bed is quite comfortable. We did experienced some bad luck with the shower, but Philip tried his best to help us. So thank you, Philip! I would definitely suggest the guests to be prepared of the mud. Rain boots is essential! 😉

    Ke2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy hut in a great location, walks and pubs near by. Went in winter and it was lovely and warm, would be even better in the summer with the little outdoor seating area. Highly recommend.

  • Amazing location. Away from it all. Unfortunately it rained when we were there but it would make a great stay with bonfire and BBQ outside overlooking a lake. Very romantic

  • Fantastic weekend. The shepherds hut had everything you needed, amazing location with great views, very quiet and private. Highly recommended.

  • Lovely spot for reflection

    Alex2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place in a lovely peaceful location. Kitchen had everything you needed, I brought along my own frying pan as I usually do to air bnb’s but there was no need to. The fire was great and kept the place really warm. Highlight of our trip was walking to the ring of bells pub for dinner one evening - the food is great and very reasonably priced. They do a nice draft ale too! Only thing I could fault is that there was only one loo roll provided, but I did bring a spare one along as I had read some of the previous reviews mentioning this! Overall a lovely stay and a great setting for a peaceful New Year’s Eve.

Excellent value, and couldn't ask for more. Never actually saw hosts... we kept missing each other... but communication by text was great, so no problem at all :-).

  • I had a lovely stay with Jude. The accommodation was quiet and comfortable and I found it more spacious than I had expected. It was handy to have a big fridge and microwave as I’d gone fully stocked with food for the week (I was on a six day course nearby). Jude had put some bits and pieces in the fridge and there was tea, coffee and hot chocolate that she’d made available, amongst other things. The sofa is comfy to snuggle on in front of the tv and it was handy to having the little dining table and chairs. The bathroom is just outside the bedroom door and is for private use so it’s near enough en-suite. Thanks so much for being a welcoming host, Jude. :-)

A self contained part of our home with own entrance, patio and parking. Spacious bedroom with bathroom en suite and own conservatory/breakfast room. Set in quiet rural area near Bovey Tracey with views over the fields to Dartmoor on one side and into the woods from the other. Surrounded by over 100 acres of nature reserve; a walkers/nature lovers paradise with many birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Also in walking distance of 3 other Devon Wildlife Trust nature reserves.
The West Wing is attached to our home in a 3 acre field bordered on one side by a disused railway line leading to the River Bovey and on the other by a Nature Reserve, home to many rare species. This is open access and a delight for walkers. A stroll around the Heath to the pub and back is highly recommended. A do it yourself continental breakfast is provided in the conservatory. This room has lovely views across the fields to Dartmoor and the bedroom window looks directly into the woods. You can lie in bed and watch the birds as they come to the bird feeder just outside the window.
The field is in a rural area, surrounded by fields and a nature reserve. However, it is also very close to amenities with the A38 just around the corner. Dartmoor and the sea are just short drive away, as are Exeter, Totnes, Plymouth and Torbay. There are so many walks in the area you are spoilt for choice and there are also some excellent tourist attractions, restaurants and pubs.
  • Outstanding hospitality. Jules was a perfect host. The place was like a home from home. My boyfriend and I had a fabulous stay and loved waking up in the forest!

  • First class, one of my best AirBnb experience with Jules. I can repeat myself only and for sure recommend Jules's place :-)

  • What a delight to meet Jules, my husband was spoilt with a pint if real ale when we arrived back after being out. Such a relaxing place with views out the back into the woods. Everything was clean and inviting. We also had breakfast provided each morning.

  • Our Airbnb experiences just keep getting better and better. Perfect hosts and lovely quirky, cosy and private place to stay. One of the best nights sleeps we have had. Jules and Ken went out of their way to accommodate us. Thank you guys. Would highly recommend their place.

    Ken2018-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great stay in 'The West Wing'. The accommodation was bigger than I expected and was spotlessly clean. The location is great - very quiet and surrounded by scenic countryside. The bed was very comfy and I slept soundly every night. Jules and Ken are friendly hosts who have the right balance of being on hand if you need them, but also give you space and privacy to relax. There were other nice touches too, such as the bird feeder out side, the buffet style breakfast and also a lovely pint of local real ale which Jules brought around one evening! I would highly recommend the West Wing and will be going back again I'm sure.

    Toby2018-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time. Jules and Ken were amazing hosts and very generous with their hospitality. The West Wing was a lovely secluded property away from it all. Just what we wanted. We can’t wait to return.

  • A confortable house, well located to discover Devon and Dartmoor. Crag cottage is also a house where you feel that people are living (that changes from other places, confortable but impersonnal). Having all shops in the street next to the house is also a very good point. As we were 5, having 2 bathrooms & toilets was appreciated. We'll come back !

  • Tim and Linda's flat was absolutely perfect. It was comfy, warm and cosy with so many little extras that we weren't expecting. We were severly delayed checking in due to storm Dennis and Tim was still friendly and welcoming at 10.30pm. Giving us a full show around the flat and making sure we were settled in. They provide everything you could possibly need and a great range of food for breakfast, including eggs from their chickens! Fab stay!

    Ren2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great local experience. The location is very rural, set down country roads. The little apartment is quaint and clean. The host supplied ingredients for breakfast, including eggs from their own chickens. Highly recommended.

  • Everything about this place is just perfect. We were treated to a very warm and personal welcome from the host Tim, who showed us around the apartment and settled us in. This was the best stocked place we have ever stayed in, it was full of thoughtful touches and wonderful breakfast supplies.

  • Upon my arrival I was greeted with a very warm welcome by Tim and Linda who showed me around the cottage. I was genuinely impressed by their hospitality and attention paid to detail, they have thought of everything to make you feel at home and provide you with a comfortable stay. Many food items were provided including bread, butter, sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, milk, cereal, tea, coffee and other cooking essentials. Located in a peaceful and picturesque spot on the edge of the moors, Tim and Linda’s cottage is excellent value and a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area, I would definitely stay here again! :-)

This lovely self contained wooden chalet (The Roadhouse) is set in a quiet rural location near Bovey Tracey with stunning views over the fields to Dartmoor. Surrounded by 100 acres of nature reserve, home to many rare species, a walkers/nature lovers paradise with many birds, butterflies and dragonflies. 20 minutes from Exeter, 10 miles to the Devon coast and close to Dartmoor, Ashburton and Newton Abbot. Also listed on Airbnb at Acorn Field is https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/24821237?s=51
The Roadhouse is in a 3 acre field bordered by a disused railway line leading to the River Bovey and the Heath (Nature Reserve) which is open access and a delight for walkers. A stroll around the Heath to the pub and back is highly recommended.
Walking in the local area The nature reserve surounding Acorn field is called Chudleigh Knighton Heath and is managed by Devon Wildlife Trust. The reserve is one of the few places where the rare nightjar comes to breed between May and September. They are shy and nest on the ground, so please keep dogs on leads. You can follow a walk known as The Ant Trail which goes into the nearby Chudleigh Knighton Village and around the Nature Reserve. It takes around 45 minutes to complete. A shop and pub can be found in the village. A 4.5 mile Bovey Basin Wild Walk links Chudleigh Knighton Heath to Bovey Heathfield and Little Bradley Ponds nature reserves. Little Bradley Ponds is one of Devon's top dragonfly watching spots and at dawn and dusk you may be lucky enough to see nightjars at Bovey Heathfield. Its a great place to spot secretive reptiles too. The Wray Valley cycle trail borders this reserve. Teigngrace Meadow Nature Reserve is also within 1 mile of Acorn field and offers lovely views over south Devon and some wonderful wildflowers. The Wray Valley Trail off-road path runs through the site and a pleasant stretch of the River Bovey also flows along one edge. We have a lovely local pub which is very old and thatched. There are a number of excellent restaurants and pubs in the area and the shops are close by. There is a big Co op 2.7 miles at Trago Mills. Trago is a large shop selling almost everything under the sun, most at cheap prices. They also have a model steam railway, the cheapest fuel in the area and peacocks. There is lots to do in the area, something to suit all tastes and interests.
  • We booked for my in-laws to stay at for four nights with their dog. They really liked the views, the log burner and found it nice and clean. An enjoyable stay - if not a little muddy due to recent very bad weather!

  • We had a lovely stay at Jules' place. Jules was away during our visit but kept in touch via email and Thai was a wonderful host (the plums and milk on arrival were very thoughtful touches!). The cottage is lovely and quaint and was the perfect size for us. The location was also perfect for exploring Devon and for our course at Ashburton cookery school which is less than 10 minutes drive away. We look forward to coming back!

  • A lovely cabin in a wonderfully peaceful location. Surrounded by trees, with views out to Dartmoor, the setting is idyllic. We especially enjoyed being so close to the moor while also being a short drive away from the sea. Highly recommended.

  • Clear communication from outset and warm reception upon arrival. All facilities required for a comfortable stay were provided. Overall very clean and well presented. Impressive display of vintage Mercedes cars on drive in! Would happily stay again, thank you for a lovely time.

  • Comfortable and peaceful place to visit the area

    Pasha2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the Roadhouse is a small haven of peace, both secluded and well-placed for exploring the beautiful Dartmoor Park, Exeter and the entire coast. The indications and the very nice welcome from Jules were perfect. The house itself is really cute and has everything you need for a successful stay. Our dog has also enjoyed the small garden. I recommend very warmly!

    Damien2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jules place is in a really tranquil area, away from the hustle and bustle of the city but still within a 20 minute drive to the beautiful coast (Torquay). Her hospitality was outstanding, little touches around the log cabin really added to the overall experience (clean towels, bed sheets, milk in the fridge upon arrival, utensils all ready, loo roll in the toilet and on the shelves, a halogen heater and TV... I could go on), this made the arrival homely and settled from the get go. The surrounding area is stunning, surrounded by fields and meadow, my family loved it and my little Robyn got to see the Robins come and perch themselves on the picket fence outside in the sunshine. You will wake up, hearing the peaceful hum of crickets and chirping of birds, in a spacious log cabin away from people and stress in a beautiful meadow full of wildlife and nature. It was so lovely to have a nice break and everything was thoroughly explained to us beforehand, the host was lovely and communication was fast and reliable. I highly recommend this as a break, great value for money and you will have the entire space to yourself! X

  • I didn't know what to expect from an Airbnb, as this was my first time. I'm so glad that I eventually chose Kate's to stay at. I was here for the whole month, and I must say, that it felt like home from home. The room was more than big enough for me, with ample storage and hanging space. Kate and Stuart couldn't do enough for me to make my stay enjoyable.

  • We had the most amazing overnight stay here...the photos don't do the place justice! It was bigger than we expected, and every part of it was absolutely stunning. It was spotlessly clean, had a well equipped kitchen, and was in a great position (close to Exeter for shopping, and in beautiful land which we would have explored had it been less stormy!). Julie was so hospitable despite our late arrival, and made us feel very welcome. We would 100% recommend it, and hope to go back again soon!

    Emily2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay, really enjoyed our time away staying at this property for the third time. The hosts are so friendly and helpful. Will be looking to book again soon.

  • Beautiful place in a lovely location - much bigger than the pictures suggest! Incredibly clean and a relaxed, comfortable stay with all amenities and thorough information on local tips and things to do on the farm. Was lovely to meet Julie and she was very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend!

    Euan2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place, photos don’t do it justice. Julie is a very nice host, and walking around the farm is an added bonus. Would stay again!

Our house is small and homely, we offer a small double room with vanity unit and chest of draws and wardrobe, we have a shared bathroom with a shower and toilet plus a downstairs toilet.Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits available Anytime from the kitchen.
We have a small but pretty garden guests are welcome to use.our town has several places to eat, cafes, and a small supermarket and takeaways. A doctors surgery and dentist. we are a none smoking house, you can smoke in an area in the garden.
The nice thing about where we live is the fact that we have easy access to lots of beautiful places
  • With Lena and Andrew you can expect a real home from home. The facilities are exactly as described and both are very accommodating. The house is spotlessly clean and the bed is to die for. It's so very comfortable and cosy. Lena and Andrew are so very kind, welcoming and their local knowledge of the areas surrounding Chudleigh are second to none. I'd recommend staying with Lena and Andrew. I'll certainly be going back.

The Studio has an open plan lounge with kitchen/dining area and separate cosy ensuite double bedroom. I am only 6-7 mins walk from the bustling town center with restaurants, bars, and shops. The location is great for most things you may wish to do in the area, visiting the coast, Dartmoor, the Racecourse, Exeter / Plymouth. I am walking distance from bus and rail station, usually can collect you from the station. I can accommodate 1-2 more on the sofa bed or offer 2 sleeping separate for 2.
In addition to the above for those staying a little longer I am happy to make the laundry room (part of the main house) available to use. The Studio has its own front door. The kitchen has full facilities but should you wish to have breakfast prepared for you I may be able to oblige ( at extra cost).
The house is in a nice neighbourhood and walking back from town late at night the route is well lit and busy.

Enjoy a stay in this beautiful location set on the edge of Dartmoor and near to the charming village of Lustleigh. Great for walking and exploring the moor. The private apartment has an ensuite bedroom with a king size bed and an adjoining large sitting room. Guests are welcome to use the garden. A delicious continental breakfast is served in your rooms. Lustleigh is a five minute drive away, or a fifteen minute walk. There is a pub, shop and tea room in the village. A very warm welcome to all.
The house is detached and has a lovely garden (which guests can use) and great views. The upstairs rooms are light and airy. The whole apartment has been recently carpeted and decorated. Amenities in the living room include a fridge, kettle, cafetiere and necessary cutlery and crockery. Free tea and coffee is always available and the price includes a delicious continental breakfast.
The area around is of outstanding natural beauty and there are many walks to be had from the front door, or further afield up onto the moor. There are no close neighbours, the village is very friendly and has a lovely pub and cafe. Lustleigh is a beautiful, old and much visited Devon village. As well as being on the edge of Dartmoor, just an hour away there are beautiful beaches in the South Hams area.
  • A really lovely house in a beautiful location which is also perfect for exploring this area of Dartmoor. Kate is really friendly, helpful and welcoming. Would absolutely recommend.

  • Since discovering AirBnB about 5years ago, we have never stayed in a hotel. Getting to meet people, sharing their home and getting local tips from a local are all much higher up on our list. Every now and then we have a trip that stands out from the rest and Kate's place was that. She offered for us to have our own privacy or to spend time getting to know her. The space we had was huge and very well requipped. Nature aplenty on the doorstep and a brilliant pub within walking distance. Hope to visit again soon. Thanks for making us feel so welcome.

  • An absolutely perfect stay - perfect host, perfect setting, perfect space. We really couldn't have asked for more and are hoping to stay with Kate again in the future. • We really enjoyed our stay despite it raining the whole time - The covered area outside the door was very handy! We were also very cosy when inside! It was lovely to arrive to a delicious home made cake and the hosts were on hand for anything we needed. Our dog enjoyed the woodland at the property and we also visited Parke (NT) and did a woodland walk by Steps bridge. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Ours is a relatively modern house in this lovely village. Built on the side of the hill, there are steps up to the front door & the guest suite is at this level, with its own private entrance. There are trees all around & lots of birdsong in the morning.
The guest room has its own entrance door directly into the bedroom and the door to the main part of the house will be locked during your stay, so you can be completely private. There is a seating area with 2 chairs & coffee table. We have a foldable laptop table if you want to work, TV if you want to relax & DAB radio if you want to chill. The bathroom is en-suite with a large, powerful shower.
Lovely village with a mixture of newer & older properties. The village is compact, set on both sides of a valley, itself close to the river Teign valley. There are several other small villages nearby all individual in character. Most have a pub!
  • Great room/private space in a lovely location. Clean and welcoming, would recommend to anyone looking for something in this area.

The sports centre in the village has tennis courts and a fitness centre and in addition there are numerous golf courses nearby including a championship course at Bovey Castle, just a couple of miles away.
The ancient market town of Moretonhampstead is nestled on the eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park. With hills on three sides and the beautiful Wray Valley on the fourth it’s perfectly placed for visiting the moors, the countryside and the seaside. Exeter, the capital city of Devon with its historic cathedral and quayside is less that 15 miles away, as are Newton Abbot, Okehampton and Princetown. Moretonhampstead is within an hour’s drive of both the stunning north and south coastlines.
  • The apartment itself is absolutely lovely, tastefully decorated, spotless throughout, well cared for and has countless additional thoughtful touches to make your stay enjoyable from a welcome basket with some nice nibbles and hot drink sachets, to a bird book and binoculars on the window ledge - there's too many to list. The kitchen is fully equipped if you wanted to cook your meals in the apartment - there's even a slow cooker. The apartment is situated at the back of a small, quite housing development and is within easy walking distance of the shops, bars and restaurants that Moretonhampstead has to offer. Our host was very helpful and responded to any enquiries in a timely manner, providing as much help and information as she could. I could not recommend this apartment or it's host highly enough.

The bed was so comfy and the room was stylish with lovely Victorian features and a modern bathroom. So peaceful and relaxing - it was lovely to just admire the view of Dartmoor from the window with nothing but the sound of birds. Convenient location near both Dartmoor and the coast, it was a very enjoyable stay... next time we will stay for longer. Thanks!

  • We had a great stay at James’ place. The house was all newly fitted out and the space was really well done as well as being spacious and very clean. The space is even better than it looks in the pictures. We appreciated coffee, chocolates and other goodies being left too! The location was great as we were 5 minutes walk away from the local park and playground for our toddler as well as the local shops. We visited nearby Dartmoor and Totnes as well as the House of Marbles whilst seeing family in the area. There is tons to see and do and there are many great things for families in the area. Also Cafe 360 2 minutes away deserves a mention as a great stylish spot for brunch and coffee where our little one could play in a special play area.

  • My family and I had a wonderful stay at this house. The house is clean and well kept. The parking is right behind the house with an easy access to the house. There are parks and amenities nearby within walking distance. Although the road to access the house from the highway is dark at night, it will be lighted up once your reach the housing area.

The space was immaculate and warm, it suited my every need and the bed was comfy! I especially enjoyed that Helen had left fresh milk, orange juice, breakfast cereals, fruit and more which was a lovely touch. I Would definitely recommend and would stay again if I return to the school :)

Corona update - please be assured the cottage is very isolated so you can choose not to see anybody if you want to and still enjoy the countryside. We are currently open to monthly bookings, just get in touch to discuss. A luxury, thatched Devon bolt-hole on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. Recently renovated to a very high standard, this two person cottage oozes character and charm, while being a true luxury getaway. Situated in the Teign Valley, there are great walks from the doorstep.
This 17th Century, listed thatched cottage is an escape-to-the-country dream. Upstairs is stunning bedroom, with en-suite bathroom with built-in wadrobes, bath and separate shower. Perfect for lazing in bed and watching telly on a Sunday morning. The Scandi inspired sitting room has a comfy sofa for evenings in front of the wood burner, with big HD TV included. The kitchen has a range cooker, belfast sink and beautiful handmade units - equipped to cook everything from a delicious dinner to a Sunday roast. Then through to the dining room, which has huge oak framed windows, with views across the valley and two comfy chairs to gaze at the view or watch telly on a sunny day. The dining room table seats 4, so if you have booked neighbouring Rose Cottage with friends everyone can get together to eat. Out the door there are two terraces to soak up the sun and views.
There are 6 good pubs within a five minute drive of the cottage and the Teign Valley is well known for it's excellent walks through woods and across hillsides. The Dartmoor National Park is a short drive away and the lovely Devon coast is within 25 minutes. And, if you're in need of retail therapy, Exeter is just 7 miles away.
  • Wonderful cottage. The bed was an absolute dream. Quick responses from the host. Would definitely recommend.

    Donna2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not give this cottage any justice! It is outstandingly beautiful, with the scenery outside and the cosy, comfortable atmosphere inside. We truly recommended trying this cottage, I agree with a lot of the previous reviews, I wish we had booked to stay longer. I got a severe case of the holiday blues waking up on that last morning. We too would recommend the Nobody Inn pub, fantastic service and the food was delicious. Very fortunate we found this cottage, I am hoping that we can book this up again and again.

    Charlotte2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • The amenities and extra touches in the cottage, twinned with the location, provide everything you need for a cosy escape.

    Olivia2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage in an idyllic location. This was our second stay and we’d love to come back for a third.

    Tony2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • West Walk Cottage is everything a couple (& dog) could possible need for a relaxing country retreat. Tastefully appointed, with beautiful artwork hanging on every wall, it's country chic with London amenities. We loved: the wood burner, the fully-kitted out kitchen, the light dining area, the bed (super soft & comfy) and the greenery just a step outside for the dog. The cottage is picture-perfect, not a detail has been missed and it's in the best location on the edge of Dartmoor. The weather was mostly wet, so we made the most of the fire and pubs. You HAVE to visit The Nobody (10mins drive) they do a great lunch and dinner - and it's dog friendly. Thanks again for a wonderful break from real life. We will absolutely be back in summer for wild swimming and walks!

    Rachael2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • This wonderful cottage was perfect for the weekend escape we were seeking. Full of character, it has been modernised to a very high standard, whilst retaining its charm. Great location - a peaceful and scenic ‘away from it all’ feel but still accessible. Loved it!

    Jeanette2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great getaway and perfect for access to Dartmoor. Great to find a dog friendly cosy cottage. Thanks Ben.

    Gregory2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Somehow this place looks even better in real life than it does in the pictures - really nice sized rooms, super cosy, beautifully decorated. Loved every minute and only wished we had time to stay longer.
