Places to stay in Machynlleth
Come and visit our beautiful, restored guards wagon, high on a peaceful, off-grid hill. For walkers or cyclists, romantic breaks or retreats in nature; this is perfect for adventures or relaxing on the deck with a cup of tea heated by hydro power. Cosy all year round with wood burning stove and kitchenette, it has all you need for a relaxing stay. Holistic massage is available in the farmhouse for that added touch of luxury and relaxation, if the peace and quiet and the birdsong is not enough!
Getting away from it all is easier than you may think, in this surprising little carriage perched on a secluded hill. It is a unique space in many ways, but I can describe to you some of our favourites! The carriage is on the land of a working smallholding and community. The farmhouse has several people living and sharing the garden, and we are completely off-grid, with our own fresh water supply, and self-contained small hydro system to provide all our electricity! The carriage itself is made from a guards wagon. Before braking could be done remotely from the engine, a guard traveled in this wagon, and would have had to manually brake all of the carriages when necessary. When technology advanced, these wagons were sold off to farmers by the railways, as well-built sheds and cabins. This one was winched to the top of our hill and renovated, and we are very excited to be sharing it! Ideal for retreats, romantic breaks, or for a base on a walking or cycling trip, the carriage is close enough to civilization to be convenient (the market town of Machynlleth is a 15 minute drive away) but also remote enough to really, truly relax. I also have a treatment room in the house, so if you would like to book in for a Holistic Massage as part of your holiday, just let me know and I'll be very happy to see you! The farmhouse who's land the carriage is on, is the only dwelling on this side of the mountain, so if peace is what you are looking for then you have come to the right place. However civilization is close at hand! The charming market town of Machynlleth is a 15 minute drive away, and has a vibrant community and enough shops to get you everything you need. There are plenty of popular attractions, for example the Centre for Alternative Technology for those interested in treading more lightly, or the Dyfi Osprey Project, a breeding site for ospreys. We are nestled in the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park, so there is plenty of exploring for walkers and cyclists to do- Cadair Idris is one of my favourite mountains and it's only 15 minutes away... We are 1.5 miles from the A487 near Machynlleth, up a forestry track- fairly well maintained but with a smattering of potholes, for the rally driver in us all. Full, easy directions will be sent upon booking! There is space to park, with a short walk (1 minute) up a fairly steep hill with steps, so please consider if you can manage this before booking! I lived up here without a car for 10 years, and it is certainly possible to manage. Trains come regularly to Machynlleth from the Shrewsbury / Birmingham direction, and from Machynlleth there is a good bus service coming to Pantperthog. It is a 25 minute walk (again, uphill!) to get to the carriage from the bus stop. Of course there is always the taxi- from Machynlleth it costs £8. Peter's Taxi is on (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) . We live off-grid! We think this is pretty amazing, and love being self-sufficient in power and water. But it does mean that sometimes, when it's been really dry for ages, or when things go a bit wrong, we may need to be careful with how much power we use. Occasionally it means the peace will be broken by a couple of hours of our noisy old diesel generator charging the batteries if there has been some problem, or us using the chainsaw for a while to cut our (and your!) firewood. It means we'll sometimes have to ask you to use the gas instead of the electric kettle, and to avoid using hairdryers or similar high power luxury items. Apart from that it shouldn't create any inconveniences, just a warm fuzzy feeling that during your stay you are having barely any impact on your environment, and a great example of how the eco lifestyle can work! Please also remember to bring your torch as its very dark here at night! Good outdoor shoes or wellies, and slippers are also a good idea.

  • This was one of the most peaceful and beautiful places we have ever stayed. The train carriage itself provided everything we needed and more, the view was stunning and the bed one of the comfiest I've ever slept in! We went on a few spectacular walks up the mountain and it was so nice to come back to the cosy carriage and relax by the fire. We were both glowing by the end of it, the clean air and utter stillness of the surroundings having cleansed us both completely! Meg was away for most of while we were there but everything was provided for us in preparation and we met her on the last day; she was as lovely as you would expect :) A truly perfect escape from the city for a few blissful days. We would definitely like to come back!

  • Fabulous place to stay! Gorgeous scenery, beautifully decorated, simple yet quirky and so relaxing. Would go back in a heart beat. Two nights here was just what I needed and Meg was very warm and welcoming on arrival. Thank you so much.

    Lindsay2016-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great relaxing break in a beautiful location. The view is extraordinary!! Many thanks Meg xxx

  • We had a fantastic stay. The carriage is just beautiful and the surroundings are breathtaking. We were really cosy with the wood burner on. Great views and even saw the Milky Way at night which was really special. Great environment and absolutely loved the outdoor shower. Thanks. We’ll be back.

    Rachael2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Meg was most welcoming/accommodating and the carriage was spectacular. The long drive up the mountain on the forest track, although quite daunting to begin with, made it all the more special when you arrive. My only regret was that we didn't stay more then 2 nights. I'm sure there will be a next time............

    James2016-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • The little train carriage on the hill was just what we needed for our two night stay away from hassle. Equipped with all the necessities for a peaceful break, and despite it absolutely pouring down with rain the whole time we were there we still managed to explore some beautiful Welsh terrains. Recommend for anyone wanting a little bit of a different stay than your usual - we absolutely adored it!

    Georgia2016-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Probably one of the most beautiful places in the world! We loved the train carriage and its surroundings. Would 100% recommend it to others!

    Felice2016-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time and enjoyed some beautiful views despite the weather! Though there's plenty to enjoy in sitting by a fire listening to music and watching the rain fall across the hills. Would definitely recommend a stay here, even in winter.

Located in the stunning and remote 'Artists Valley' (with Beavers) this charming Self Contained Space is in a 75 acre conservation and permaculture site. With unparalleled views, an ideal base for walking, enjoying nature and rural family retreats.
This cosy Cottage is centrally heated with radiators which are on constantly (please let us know if you are too warm!), is well insulated and gets lovely and homely. There is also a heater in the bathroom :) Upstairs, there is a very large bedroom than can sleep up to 5 (very good!) friends or a young family but is better suited to couples. In the bedroom there is a hand basin with hot running water, a wardrobe and chest of drawers for you to use. The double bed has an electric blanket and there is a TV (which you can chose to completely ignore!) with freesat channels and a DVD player. Wifi is available in the beautiful Breakfast Room next door - and there is an (moody!) ethernet connection upstairs in the Cottage itself (please bring a laptop with an Ethernet port) but there is a good Wifi signal in both the Gazebo and the Breakfast room. Our connection here at the end of the Valley can on occasion, be temperamental - so just in case, best not to rely on it for life and death situations... but it is normally more than adequate to check emails, download films and make internet video calls. We hope that you will be so busy enjoying the stunning natural landscape that you may forget the internet - just for a moment xxx ;) There is no washing machine in the Cottage, but for those on longer stays, please ask at the main house, and we would be happy to help - £10 for a service wash and dry x The double bed is made up with fresh linens for each stay and extra blankets are supplied in abundance. Linens and towels will be changed once a week for folk on longer stays. If you require additional bedding, sheets and pillowcases etc (for larger groups using the extra sofa bed etc.), we are happy to do so (although they will most likely not match at all!) for a laundry fee of £7 per person. Please note that the additional nightly surcharge of £7 per person does apply regardless of how small the person is - so babies and toddlers are included too (as we have found that families with young children tend to use more heating and hot water). x Although there is no open fire in Narnia itself, directly opposite the South facing door is a stunning octagonal glass Gazebo, with a comfy sofa and wood- burning stove - you would have sole use of the Gazebo when you book Narnia! 10 metres from your door, it is a gorgeous space to sit and read, do your emails, share bottle of wine, muse over a jigsaw, knit something or chat indoors.... but outdoors at the same time ;) ...................and it really does get toasty in there in winter with the fire going! - we can provide you with some nice dry wood - please ask for details. It is an amazing place to be in crazy weather! - right in the middle of it, yet warm and dry all at once :) Please note that although the Gazebo is lovely, it is an outdoor structure and the floor can get damp after heavy rain (but the sofa stays dry!) and although we do suck up spider webs regularly, there will always be a few :) The Gazebo is supplied with some dry firewood but we charge £10 per barrow load if you need more. In addition to exploring the whole Permaculture and Conservation site, you would also be able to make the most of our new 'Breakfast Room' - a 10 metre Conservatory with glass on 3 sides, tables and chairs to sit at and comfy sofas at the other end. This gorgeous space is for use by everyone at Blaeneinion and is perfect to relax in or check emails on wetter days - please see the photos :) There are lots of plants, a stereo system, some childrens toys (wooden train set has been a big hit!) jigsaws, a piano and a growing and eclectic mixture of books to enjoy. It is a great spot to enjoy looking out at the stars in the evening or enjoying a glass of wine after a long days walking and exploring :) The breakfast room is super-hot on Summer days and comfortably warmed by even the merest sunshine even in Winter.... the stone wall internally retains heat like a big storage heater well into the evenings. There are delicious home-made jams for sale in the Breakfast room, and please ask if you would like eggs or fresh produce produced on site (chickens lay much less in Winter though x)
Our neighbourhood is very quiet, secluded and tranquil. The air is clean, you can see the stars and we never hear sirens!
  • This place is amazing! Sharon is a wonderful host. She's very welcoming, helpful and will do everything she can to make sure you're happy but also leaves you alone to do whatever you want to do. Narnia is just as described. It's basic and quirky and has everything you need for a rural holiday. There isn't a fire in this cottage but it's really nice to sit in the pergola opposite with a fire in the evenings. It gets pretty toasty! There are ducks, geese and hens roaming around freely and even a little chick arrived while we were there. Mr Beaver is the star of the show. He's very relaxed about having people near him and we sat only a couple of metres away from him while he munched his dinner. There are beautiful walks in every direction straight from the farm so you don't really need to drive anywhere. We particularly liked the walk up to the lakes where there is a rowing boat you can use. If you like peace and quiet, animals and wildlife and don't need anything fancy, this place is for you. We're already working out when we can go back!

    Jessica2015-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Narnia. The scenery and cottage itself is beautiful and Sharon was a very friendly and accommodating host. I would like to come again.

    Ali2016-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful comfortable place a long way from the main road and two fields away from wilderness where you could walk all day and not meet anyone. Very impressed with the home grown veg.

    Peter2016-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Blaenenion is just as I remembered it! I was so excited to stay in Narnia and it was absolutely perfect. Narnia was so cosy and having the fire in the Wendy house was a lovely extra bonus. Can't wait to come back for longer.

    Georgina2018-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon was a wonderful host, making our couple of days at the cottage absolutely magical. The surrounding area is absolutely stunning and you can pretty much explore where ever you want. The chickens were so adorable that I've overcome my fear but I'm still happy keeping a few feet away from geese! Highly recommend staying with Sharon as her place is truly wonderful.

    Alex2018-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant accommodation! Big recommendation! Everything Sharon says in the description is absolutely true - aside from the fact that only Mrs. Beaver resided there at the time, Mr. Beaver being out to extend his territory. In good weather this is the perfect starting point to explore this beautiful area of Mid Wales, for the rainy days Narnia is a cozy little cave to hang out in. We'd definitely come here again - and actually may do so.

    Jörn2016-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon made us welcome from the moment we arrived until the moment we left, vowing to return. The place, ethos and atmosphere all lived up to the listing, and we loved the whole experience. Watching Mr Beaver was the undoubted highlight, but in the short time there we found it very relaxing and a great place to chill. But if that sounds like there isn't much to do, think again. We had already planned to visit some places nearby [like the Centre for Alternative Technology] but could just as easily have spent our time just exploring the site and no doubt asking Sharon loads of questions! A lovely place, the facilities just great, the welcome couldn't be warmer, and we really do hope to get back here in the not too distant future. And nearly forgot to mention the chickens, the geese, the cats, the fox, the swallows and all the other birds. And the gazebo. Wonderful!

    Jo2016-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • I normally don't bother writing reviews but Narnia is so special it deserves some review love! Our time in Narnia was amazing. It's such a wonderful space and has a special feel to it. The cottage itself is cosy and homely and the gazebo with the log burner is fantastic. In addition to that there are beavers to search for,  a lovely stream running through the garden and all sorts of outside spaces to explore.  It rained the whole time we were there but it didn't matter. It's simply awesome. Sharon who owns and runs the place is lovely. She made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. She went out of her way to make sure that everything was OK and was just fantastic. We were pretty busy and there's all sorts to do.  It's in easy driving distance of top class mountain bike trails, Cadir Idris is close and there are other activities nearby. After days out adventuring it was lush to come back to a cosy cottage and then collapse into a toasty and oh so comfy bed to sleep in silence. Yes it rained all the time, yes it's rustic but it is simply amazing. It's the perfect place to turn your phone off and enjoy reading your book, playing board games and embrace the great and green outdoors. We will definitely be coming back!

    Machynlleth, United Kingdom

We have three large, light and comfortable rooms in a family home right in the heart of Machynlleth. Each one is uniquely decorated, and furnished with a double bed (though we can accommodate more on futons if you need!). Though it is a family home, you will have a private small kitchen and bathroom, and also access to the family garden if you wish. There is also free internet, a DVD player with films to watch, a radio and a book swap. We can offer you a relaxing, private and peaceful space, whether you are an individual, couple, family or a larger group. Machynlleth itself is a pleasant market town surrounded by hills and at the edge of the beautiful Dyfi valley. As well as the Wednesday weekly market, there are plenty of shops, pubs and places to eat. Just outside of town there are many cycling, running and walking trails in the hills, mountains and forests, Europe's leading eco-centre the Centre for Alternative Technology, the RSPB Ynys-hir nature reserve (made famous on Springwatch!), two fantastic beaches at Aberdyfi and Ynyslas, and just a short distance away Aberystwyth, with its splendid Arts Centre. The house has nearby parking, is just 100 yards from the bus stop, and only a few minutes walk from the train station. Please note that we do not accept pets and as the rooms are on the third floor, the accommodation is not suitable for those with mobility problems. The stairs to the loft are steep. You can park outside the house to unload and then move the car to an off road car park a couple of hundred metres away. We are located on the main road, so there is some traffic noise during the day. Looking forward to seeing you!
  • Joan met us on arrival and made us welcome. The house is in a perfect location and met all our needs. Only a brief stay, but would definitely recommend!

    Sarah2015-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • An enjoyable stay in a peaceful upper floor of an old house. The room was large and the bed is comfortable, the kitchenette is well stocked and has a delightful view over the garden and the hills beyond. The town of Machynthlleth is full of interesting shops and the market on Wednesday is much larger than I imagined. This accomodation was extremely good value for a single traveller. Thank you Joan.

    Rose2016-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We met Joan on our arrival. Nice clean place. The rooms are large and spacious. Joan had kept for us the necessary things in the kitchen. Would recommend to friends.

    Neeraj2015-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay with Joan in her beautiful home. We were greeted with tea, bread, jam and fruit. There was more than enough space for our family of five to stay. The town was charming and just a short drive from the shore and gorgeous mountain views! We would certainly recommend Joan's home to others visiting Wales.

    Carrie2016-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very cosy and relaxing place with its own kitchenette and toilet.. I really appreciate also the beautiful natural surrounding.. Joan is a wonderful person and make me feel very comfortable during my stay! :) Highly recommended!

    Marco2015-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • we had a nice and big room with a cot for the baby. there is also a kitchen to use. Joan is very nice, she left us some delicious fruit and some books for the baby to read. there are also toys in the loft. kept the baby happy for a long time. the village is beautiful and clean. would recommend a visit.

    Haifeng2016-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joan was very welcoming and the description was very accurate. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean and convenient. If you are at all disabled, this is probably not the place to stay because of steep stairs, but otherwise it's lovely.

    Fiona2016-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, neat and tidy rooms, just as described. Clean and stocked kitchen and bathroom, too. A perfect place to rest our heads for the night during our brief stay in Machynlleth.

  • Beudy Banc Barn is an amazing place, in the peaceful countryside surrounded by grazing sheep & cows. You feel completely away from the rest of the world. A great place for a weekend away with friends, everything you need to spend a relaxing weekend in the Welsh countryside. There was a BBQ and a gas hob / oven & grill which we used to make group meals. The fridge is a small mini fridge as the barn is solar & wind powered, but there is a large Co-Op supermarket 10 minute drive away. All of the beds were extremely comfortable and each of the bedrooms had their own unique touches. There are lots of books, games & a radio for entertainment, we enjoyed being off grid with no TV & wifi! The outside decking looking over the welsh hills was perfect for watching the sunset. The pictures don't do it justice! I would definitely recommend and we plan to return again.

    Kirsty2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is absolutely fantastic. Very unique experience and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are no words to describe the view, one of the very best I have seen. Everything was as described and all necessary comforts provided. Would recommend it to anyone

    Francis2014-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Dafydd was so helpful, friendly and accommodating. We loved the barn. Decorated beautifully, gorgeous surroundings and watching lambs from the bath was great! Would love to stay again. Thank you!

  • What a great place, beautiful home in an even more beautiful setting! Warm, cosy with amazing views and peaceful...what else could you ask for? We had a great time and enjoyed every minute. Highly recommended and thanks for the yummy Welsh cakes :)

    Pablo2015-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beudy Banc is a blissful place to stay - breathtaking views and peace and quiet in the countryside. House is stylishly furnished and is equipped for everything you would need. We recommend the beach a short drive away at Aberdyfi, plus the walks you can do straight from the house. I am sure we will return for a third time soon!!

    Florence2018-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place to get away from it all. Make sure you have good fire lighting skills if you are traveling when it is cold.

    Matt2018-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay with three kids and a dog! We only had three nights and would have liked to extend if work and school hadn't got in the way. Great bike riding nearby in Coed y Brenin and the Mawddach Trail.

A lovely old renovated cottage with inglenook fireplace, wood burning stove and mezzanine. It is well equipped for your stay as I have tried to make it a home from home for you. There will always be some welcome goodies and you can sleep in snuggly beds made with 100% cotton or organic cotton sheets and feather and down duvets. The cottage is situated in the pretty wooded Dulas valley near the historic town of Machynlleth, close to Snowdonia and the sea.
The cottage is south facing and is full of light, even on dull days. We love books and plants so have filled the space with them for you to enjoy. There is a secluded and sheltered garden behind the cottage - a patio with garden furniture and a woodland walk leading to a summer house where you can do a spot of bird watching (binoculars provided).
Machynlleth has many independent shops and is a lovely place to spend your time. On Wednesdays there is an historic market on the main street where you can buy many local products. The Dyfi Valley is very special - mountains, the sea, fantastic walks and bike rides to discover. We've lived here for a long time so have lots of information about the area. Jean loves walking and there are maps and guide books in the cottage. The lovely resort of Aberdyfi is a short drive away as is the bird reserve at Ynys hir and the coastal reserve at Ynys las.
  • We loved this little house in the country. A cosy living room, with a fire and tv with a few dvds, after a day of walking in the beautiful surroundings it was a wonderful base to come back to. The host was thoughtful with a lovely welcome note and fresh eggs from the hens. This stay was exactly what we needed as five girls looking to explore wales for the first time. A car is a must and the property would have hosted 6 comfortable in beds and around the table for meals

    Josie2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely wonderful weekend stay at Jean’s cottage! A gorgeous cottage which felt just like home. Lovely cosy interior including the log burner which we made full use of during the evenings. Jean has put a fantastic collection of books in the cottage and there is a big cupboard in the living/dining area full of things to do: games, loads of maps and books recommending local activities, even a pair of binoculars for birdwatching! We were also greeted with a welcome basket in the kitchen of eggs and biscuits which was such a lovely touch. The location of the cottage is great - just far enough out of the main town to be secluded and peaceful but close enough that you can take a 5-minute car journey to shops and pubs. We would love to stay here again - thanks so much Jean!

    Lauren2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here in March/April 2018, a mile or so out side the village but very nice and peaceful. Just off the road but traffic noise was no problem. Everything was there as it should be and very welcoming. Off road parking so no problem there, well appointed cottage that made a nice base for exploring the local area. Large super market five mins drive away with everything you might need and some nice places to visit. Would certainly book again if in the area.

    Chris2018-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place was more amazing then I had ever imagined. The photos really doesn't do the place justice. Loved it will book again xx

    Bidushi2016-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely spacious cottage and a great base for exploring the area. We were there during a heatwave so didn't spend much time indoors but I imagine it would be lovely and cosy in the winter with the wood burning stove and lots of books to keep you occupied.

    Melanie2018-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • A Lovely little cottage in a beautiful part of Wales. Jean was the perfect host, discreet but with some lovely attention to detail. We particularly liked the fresh eggs. Thank you

    Deb2016-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage to stay in with plenty of space and character. There were lots of interesting books and maps to look at as well.

    Roz2018-06-18T00:00:00Z
  • Indeed the cottage is "a Pretty Sunny" one. Very comfortable and cosy. We enjoyed the cottage and the beautiful surroundings. Jean made us a warm welcome (fresh eggs and homemade jam). We would love to come again.

Set in the heart of rural mid-Wales, Machynlleth is a lovely historic market town with a population of about 2,000. In the town (a 2 minute walk) there is: a leisure centre (swimming pool, squash courts, bowls rink, fitness suite and sports hall); an outdoor playground; several cafes and pubs; a wholefood shop; a couple of supermarkets and lots of antique shops. Notably, apart from the supermarkets, all the shops are ‘independently’ owned.
  • I just want to say that Sabrina and Jhon are really lovely. All we needed they got it, and their cottage was perfect for us and the little kid. It was a perfect week travelling through Wales.

    Antonio2014-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Sabrina and John were going to be away when I arrived so Sabrina contacted me well ahead of time to let me know and to arrange for a friend to meet me at the cottage. The location was great for me, travelling without a car, as the cottage is just off the main street and very convenient for accessing the trails around Machynlleth by foot or public transit and of course for exploring the town itself with its great collection of unique local stores and Edible Mach gardens. The cottage was clean, well equipped (washing machine and drying rack were most appreciated) and has plenty of maps and info on walks and things to do in the area. It's on my list of places to return to.

  • They welcomed us and ensured that we had what we needed. They were easily available when wanted. It was a wonderful place to stay.

  • Sabrina and John were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The cottage is lovely, perfect for the three of us while visiting Machynlleth. We had a great time!

    Kathleen2017-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we stayed at Sabrina and John's. A lovely little cottage, perfect for a couple. Sabrina and John are warm and welcoming. There is so much to enjoy in the local area and the cottage is perfectly placed in the town with the supermarket over the road. We would be coming back again and again if we hadn't already decided to move to the area permanently! Thank you for another lovely stay. Xxx

    Natalie2018-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Good location for town, directly across from Coop, which was great. Wasn't really our style, but taste in decorations/furnishings are pretty subjective. Would recommend to someone looking for basic but pleasant accomodation in North Wales. They were two of the nicest hosts I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

  • The green room was exactly what we wanted and we felt like being in our home. Our host Ruth was very friendly and provide us with free treats for our stay for breakfast. The kitchenette was also perfect and fully loaded for preparing snacks or any microwave meal. We will for sure consider to come back to wales and stay in the green room. Thanks Ruth

    Jorge2016-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • We were made so welcome by Ruth and Tim from our first exchange of emails and directions for arriving and settling in were very prompt and detailed. The location is quiet and peaceful and ideal for relaxing. The Green Room itself is of such a high standard - such beautiful furnishings, bedding and crockery - absolutely delightful. It is such a light airy and spacious room and was perfect for our needs, with plenty of outside room for Alan to sort his bike and panniers out. A great location for cyclists with secure storage for bikes and hose for washing down too! Ruth was so kind showing us her gorgeous chickens and even cooking boiled eggs for Alan's packed lunch as he carried on with his mammoth bike tour! We had a perfect stay and recommend without reservation this wonderful AirBnB room and hosts! Thank you.

    Patricia2016-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth and Tim's place is a great little place to stay in Machynlleth. It is very close to the station and only a few minutes' walk from the main Street. Communication was friendly, welcoming and clear. The Airbnb is delightful: compact, beautifully decorated, scrupulously clean and warm. Basic provisions (milk, cereal, soup) were appreciated. Thanks, Ruth and Tim for a great stay. Andrew and Jill

    Andrew2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was a genuinely lovely place to stay. It was immaculately clean, the bed was super comfy, it was private, an easy walk into town (handy when you get caught in the rain!), and both Ruth and Tom are great communicators and very approachable.

    Colette2016-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first AirBnB experience and it was absolutely lovely. We knew what to expect from the advance descriptions (no oven, but a fridge and microwave), which helped us plan what to bring. Everything was spotlessly clean and ready for our arrival. The Green Room is right by the rail station, and there's a short cut into town as well, so it's all very convenient. It's about a 10min walk to the edge of Snowdownia National Park, with great walks around town and to the Centre for Alternative Technology, so an excellent base if you're planning on stretching your legs. Ruth and Tim are very welcoming and they were always asking if we needed anything else when we bumped into them. Not that we did - they'd thought of everything already. They have six chicken and they're hilarious. We'd stop and say hello for a few minutes every time we came and went. Definitely a highlight, not at all noisy (everything's double glazed anyway, so we slept very peacefully) and great fun to watch. We'd definitely stay again if we come this way another time.

    George2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully kept room, kitchen and bathroom. All you need for a few days away in the peace and quiet. Lovely couple couldn't do enough for us, but also gave us our own space.

    Christine2017-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic hosts and an amazing place to stay. Everything was so well looked after and the flowers, Easter eggs and breakfast bits were just a perfect edition. Look forward to staying here again when we are visiting the town again.

    Clare2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable, cosy and well thought out accommodation in a lovely peaceful residential area and a great base from which to explore. Easy walking distance to town and a couple of minutes to the railway station, so you don't need to depend on a car to get around. Hosts Ruth and Tim are really welcoming and helpful. It's dog-friendly too - my canine companion Pumpkin soon felt at home and enjoyed the complementary dog biscuits.

  • Ann’s place is very conveniently located in Machynlleth, near both the station and the co-op supermarket. The noise from the street is noticeable with the windows open but not bad at all with them shut. The kitchen is very nicely stocked and easy to use.

  • Ann was a great host. Her place is in a central location and is very generously and well set up for guests to make breakfast and find what they need in kitchen. Wifi was good. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom and bedroom simply but functionally furnished with everything I needed. For a foodie like me, it was very lovely to share in the bounty of the garden with berries galore!

  • My boyfriend and I asked Ann to stay one night at her place on a very late notice basis. She replied positively very quickly to our request and we were lucky and happy she did so. Indeed, Ann is a lovely host, and she has a cozy and welcoming home. Every room was clean, books available on the shelves in the living room and tea in the kitchen. She also gave us some tips for nice places to go for dinner. I would definitely recommend to stay at her place!

She waited for us to check in although we were 2h behind schedule and she treated us very well, giving us fresh milk in the morning, tips about the local area, and a very warm welcome. And the room is really big and cozy. We had one of the best night sleeps in the whole trip, and this place ranks very high in our AirBnB experiences so far.

  • Now a couple of days have passed and the madness of work has settled down we want to take this opportunity to write a few words about our stay at Riverside Cottage. We had an absolutely fantastic holiday very much helped by staying in a beautiful property in an ideal location for exploring the Dyfi valley area and the Snowdonia National Park. The cottage was well equipped, spacious and well appointed. The kitchen had all the mod cons and the bathroom had a large walk-in powerful shower. We were so pleased to have found the property and we will certainly look to stay again. Amie and John were very welcoming, offered great advice and tips for all interests in the surrounding area. It really was a joy to stay at Riverside cottage and cannot think of any down side at all. A home I would recommend to family and friends. Thank you both xxx

  • We had the time of our life in that beautiful spot of the world! There are so many things you can to do like walks in the nearby nature reserve, going for a swim in the sea or just rowing in the boat in the river outside. In the Cottage is just beautiful and you find all the facilities a family needs to have a great stay. The interior is done with much love and great attention to details. Amie and Jon are caring, sensitive and always helpful hosts. In one word: great people! We will definitely come back one day! Thanks for all!

    Nadav2018-08-04T00:00:00Z

  • Wow! Not just new to Airbnb, but actually NEW ... this is a totally renovated barn that way exceeded our expectations. It's been finished to a really high standard, more the way you would finish your own home than a rental. The barn was just beautiful. Local slate on the counters, a tree from the garden used to make a worktop. Local treated oak beams, large walk-in shower, architecture-designed lighting ... We loved everything about the house and the garden; we sat in the garden, jumped in the river and were a short drive to all the walking, swimming and cycling we could want. We didn't find anything else on Airbnb that was nearly this nice. Book it!

Ann was a really nice, very welcoming host on my bike trip across wales even though I was late for the check-in and didn't smell like a human after a whole day of cycling. In the heart of a former Welsh slating village, this beautiful boutique-style cottage is the ideal place to get away from it all. With walks, coast, steam railways and bike trails all to hand, there is something for everyone. Glanydon has two wood burning stoves, an amazing bathroom and a very well equipped kitchen. We can also provide baby equipment (speak to us for info) for those coming with a baby. The cottage is NOT SAFE for a baby who is mobile. Surcharge of £25 if you bring baby.
If you are coming for a special occasion we would be happy to make sure there are flowers/chocolates/bubbly etc etc in the cottage for your arrival, just speak to us re what you'd like.
There is a café/village store just a few metres from Glanydon cottage (Idris Stores) where you will get a great cuppa and more and a warm welcome. There is also a pub (The Slater's Arms) just a few metres on again which does pub grub and Sunday lunches. The views of the mountains are stunning!

A cosy self catering cottage in attractive rural location near the river Dulas. Within walking distance of the old market town of Machynlleth and railway station. Close to mountains, rivers and coast. There is one bedroom with a double bed and the other bedroom sleeps 3 in bunk beds and a single bed. Downstairs in the lounge is a double sofa bed. Heating is provided by storage heaters and a woodturning stove at cooler times of the year.
From the front of the cottage you have view over the river and the back to a wooded hillside. The cosy lounge has a wood burner. There is small but well provisioned kitchen (but no dishwasher) Upstairs the double bedrooms looks over the river and the second bed room has view to the back. It has a single bed and adult size bunk beds and is very snug, so good for children or adults who know each other well! The lounge also has a double sofa bed. The cottage does not have a washing machine but I can provide a laundry service if required and there is a laundrette in Machynlleth. Internet can be provided at a charge of £5 thanks to the generosity of our neighbour. There are towels for guest use in the bathroom, I just ask for £2 for their use. If you arrive by public transport, bike or foot there is no charge. Glangwynedd, built in the 1950's has a simple interior which has not had a modern makeover. The kitchen and bathroom are new with all facilities.
The cottage is in a very rural area close to the lovely mountain river Dulas which is crossed by a very ancient stone bridge. Walking up the hill there are lovely views down into the Dyfi valley with surrounding hills and pasture and woodland. A 20 minute walk across the valley via a foot & cycle path brings you to the old market town of Machynlleth. Many interesting birds can be seen around the cottage, with red kites gliding overhead and kingfishers on the river. If you are lucky you could see an otter in the river or hear it whistling at night.
  • In a great location, just a ten minute lovely, easy walk from town, yet the quiet of the countryside. Would strongly recommend.

  • Staying in this cottage is exactly what makes renting on Air BnB special. Such a beautiful place in the most idyllic area. Really friendly hosts who made an effort to come and say hello and give us some tips for the area. There's some great folders with information on walks and local places to eat which we tried out. The wood burner is such a nice touch. Can't recommend more highly, it's one of the best places we've stayed on Air BnB.

  • Glangwynedd is a lovely warm, cosy and welcoming cottage and was exactly as described. We were made to feel at home, with the fire being made ready for our arrival. Everything you needed was to hand including a fully equipped kitchen which suits even the keenest of cooks. • Lynn's cozy little cottage was the perfect place to unwind for the weekend. We settled in and didn't want to leave! The homey, comfortable furnishings and décor feel oh-so-welcoming, and the wood burner in the lounge takes the cottage to a whole new level of cozy! We loved leafing through the books and magazines lining the bookshelf. We also appreciated the multitude of lighting options; from firelight to lamps to pretty star string-lights, we could adjust the lighting to suit virtually any mood or need! The couches in the lounge were perfect to sink into, and there are even folding wooden chairs that you can set up directly in front of the fire. An adjustable table can easily serve as a workspace, game table, or dinner table. The bunk beds are very roomy and very comfortable. The bathroom is charming, spacious, and so clean! We purchased the wifi, which worked beautifully throughout our entire stay. Finally, the walk into Machynlleth feels scenic, safe, and peaceful. We enjoyed drinking in the gentle hills and sweet countryside that surround this gem of a home. The starry night sky, by the way, is a whole treat in itself! Lynn was lovely and sweetly checked in on us to make sure that we were all set. We are grateful for our time at her adorable cottage, and would return to this sweet, homey getaway in a heartbeat! Thank you, Lynn!

  • Nia is one of the most relaxed and welcoming hosts we have had. Her cat is also very welcoming! The room is very comfortable and we loved sitting in the lounge and looking at Snowdonia national park through the window. Nia has a deck in the garden which has fabulous views. If you want value for money with a chilled out host do yourself a favour and stay here.

  • Staying at Nia's was so relaxing! The 70's decor is adorable, the house is warm and clean and Nia and Luna are superb hosts! They were incredibly welcoming and we felt completely at home especially with the beautiful Luna purring away! We would highly recommend anyone staying in the Machynlleth to stay with Nia if you can!

  • I will recommend this place to anyone and everyone who wants to go to Wales . Nia is by far the perfect host for anyone who comes there and she will make sure to make your stay as convenient and as delightful as possible. She was very accommodating and very quick to respond with any questions. She is also flexible with check-in and check-out time, which was extremely helpful. The place was very clean and had amazing view. Definitely we will back soon!

  • Nia was an excellent communicator and was a great host during my stay. Her place puts the fun in functional so don't expect 5 star luxury but do expect to be cosy and comfortable. As others have mentioned, Luna the cat is also a delight. Thank you, Nia - you made me feel very welcome and I enjoyed my stay (despite the rainy weather).

    Graham2018-08-19T00:00:00Z

Escape to the beautiful Dyfi Valley: walk & cycle in the mountains, relax on sandy beaches, enjoy a pint by the fire in the local pub or lunch in the village cafe. A traditional cottage looking onto river & mountains with all you need for a comfortable break.
The cottage is traditionally furnished with all you will need for a comfortable break including wood burning stove, TV and Freesat and a well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are cosy and bright with amazing views over the mountains and down to the river. A second floor balcony provides a great viewpoint and an awning on the patio means the garden can be enjoyed in all weathers.
Corris is arguably the friendliest village in Wales and certainly one of the most beautiful. After holidaying here in the summer of 2015, just four months later we had left our lives in Essex to live here that's how much we love it! With stunning walking and cycling routes on your doorstep, the market towns of Machynlleth & Dolgellau nearby, a short drive to white sand beaches and the second most climbed mountain in Wales, Cadair Idris only minutes away, Corris is the perfect base for an adventure or a relaxing break in majestic scenery. There are also plenty of attractions including CAT (Centre for Alternative Technology), Corris Craft Centre, King Arthurs Labyrinth and the village even has its very own steam train!
  • Oh wow, how to begin to describe the wonderful stay we had in Lauren's place? First: when she calls Corris "the friendliest town in Wales," she's not kidding--we spent a day and a half in Corris and felt like we were leaving dear friends when we drove away. Though we never got to meet Lauren, we met members of her family everywhere we went, and every one of them went out of their way to make us feel welcome. But it wasn't just them: absolutely everyone in town, from Andy and Adam who run the local cafe/shop to the locals in the pub at the end of the block, was so warm and engaging. The cottage is beautiful, with a super-comfy bed, and a wonderful second-story porch overlooking the little river that flows around it. (It's actually more or less at the confluence of 2 streams, so there's a nice sound of running water if you crack your window at night.) The scenery is stunning, and it's only a short drive from all the wonders of Snowdonia National Park, where we had a brilliant walk thanks to a guidebook Lauren had provided in the house. If I lived in the UK, I would come back all the time! I can't say enough good things about our visit to this little corner of Wales! True magic!

    Mc2016-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Lauren's cottage. The house is very cozy and perfectly located in a beautiful village near plenty on interesting places to visit on the countryside and coast. And the direct access from the house to the river is a hidden gem. We highly recommend the cottage.

  • Second trip and we loved it as much as the first time. We even swam in the river!

    Ian2017-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful traditional cottage with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. The cottage is in quaint village of corris with a pub and a cafe just down the road. it is very conveniently located for exploring snowdonia with Cader Idris on doorstep and plenty lakes and walks around. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen (oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc.) and lovely garden with a river flowing at the end of it. The double room we stayed in was very comfortable with a second room on the 2nd floor for two more guests or children. Lauren kindly left us a crate of wood for the fireplace which we used and thoroughly enjoyed. There is no internet at the cottage but with an idyllic location and the option to stare at a fire in the wood burning stove, being cut off from the world was exactly what we needed.

    Tesh2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Nice spot to unwind. No internet no distractions

Ty golchi is situated in the traditional Welsh village of corris. Just 15 minutes from the market towns of dolgellau and machynlleth. Corris has a tourist steam train line and the cottage is within walking distance of a local craft centre with an award winning gin distillery, cafes and many more individual interesting shops.
  • We stayed at the cottage for two nights for an event. We arrived late evening but the cottage was lovely and warm. I loved how much attention to detail had been paid to the furnishings. The bed was very comfortable and the shower good. We would return.

    Katie2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Tŷ Golchi is an idyllic place to base yourself for a getaway in to the wilderness of Wales.

    Rhys2017-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Ty Golchi is a neat little place that has just about everything to accommodate a couple for a week or so to explore Snowdonia and mid Wales. We spent ten days hiking the mountains and the coast and visited a lot of interesting places. The cottage is small but cosy and well equipped for self catering. Although we did not meet Gemma we were in touch through the Airbnb app which was very effective. We got the key at the local pub just down the street and were pleasantly surprised by Gemma's efforts to welcome us even in her absence. Definitely recommendable.

  • Wow. The place is much better than I expected. Paul is a very thoughtful host every detail it’s just amazing. We had everything we needed and much more. The sauna is a must! I’m definitely planning to revisit...such an amazing place.

  • Our second stay at this magical and extremely comfortable shepherd’s hut. We loved everything about it and delighted in all the new trees and flora.

    Sarah2018-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is incredible. Exceeded all of our expectations. It's like something from Rivendell on Lord Of The Rings! A welcome break from the pace of modern life and very private. The dogs loved playing in the river. A highlight was the woodfired sauna followed by a dip in the river - very special! Paul is a very talented man. Would love to return.

    Sam2018-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • First class communication and even better accommodation. Paul and Suzanne have hand crafted a work of art into the rural Welsh countryside. This is the perfect place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We will certainly be recommending this place to our friends.

    Lewis2018-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little place, huge territory around it and a lot of options for hiking around. We had no phone reception there (we use Vodafone, but I think some other providers will have reception), and actually that was just perfect. We got to enjoy evenings by the fire, afternoons walking and reading, which was just what we wanted. Thank you Paul for creating this place and making it possible!

    Kate2018-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • The place is amazing, it’s so peaceful, the sound of the river flowing is very relaxing and the sauna is a must try. You would not regret booking this place

    Lindsay2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, comfortable cabin on a lovely steam which provided the background music for our stay, accompanied by the crackling logs on the fire. We enjoyed the sauna and the quiet surroundings, as did our two dogs. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful, remote, unique and very very basic. Its on a working farm with dogs, sheep, amazing views, woods to roam in and a fire to gather around. Its for hardy, outdoorsy types with a sense of humour and a love of the countryside. Its a basic place to stay so expect no frills. Its been in the family for years. We have found that you either fall in love with it, or you don't get it. This is very much a trial 3 months for us hence setting low expectations and the low rate.
Stone floors, old school bunk beds and decent double beds. No sheets (yet) so bring sleeping bags and pillows. Industrial arga in the kitchen, wood burning stove in the front room and a bathroom that does the job. No shower, and a functional bath. Running water, but not drinkable unless boiled - comes from a spring. Functional mini fridge, but nothing else in the kitchen. You would need to bring camping style supplies for cooking and eating.
It is in the most stunning location. You have a 20 min drive to Aberdovey which is lovely beach side small town, and you are 20 minutes from Machynelleth which has all the shops and supplies you need. The walks in the area are endless, but you can't go wrong with a walk up to the bearded lake and over to Aberdovey. Don’t miss the https://machcomedyfest.co.uk/ at the start of May. Perfect place for a group if you to stay. 10 quid to get in to town for the festival.

Trigfan means 'Home' in Welsh . We would love to welcome you to a 'home from home' holiday cottage in the quaint friendly village of Corris in mid Wales.
It is a 2 bedroomed end of terrace slate built miner’s cottage with 1 double bed and 2 single beds. We have made it as comfortable as your own home with central heating, a well equipped kitchen including dishwasher, a comfortable bathroom with bath and shower, internet Wifi access and a central location in a quiet village. It has also got character features like a multi fuelled stove and original fire place. Stair gates, travelling cot and high chair are available on request. The village is a very friendly quaint neighbourhood, full of peace and tranquillity. It is truly away from it all. The institute nearby serves tea and cakes. There is a pub serving food within very easy walking distance. Corris steam railway is only a few minutes walk away, as are the beginning points for very many excellent walks. There are art and pottery lessons available. Nearby are local attractions for children and the whole family. An award winning corner shop and cafe has opened round the corner from our cottage since 2015 and it is run by our friends in the village. It sells the essentials and local produce. This would make it very convenient for your short break grocery shopping and many guests have already enjoyed having their breakfast and afternoon teas there. There is no washing machine available on the property, but the host provides laundry service (additional fee), or you can use the one in the Youth Hostel, which is in The Old School round the corner. Regarding bicycle storage, there is a covered area behind the Youth Hostel which you can use (we would suggest donating something into the honesty box for both laundry and bicycle storage) or in the front terrace of the cottage. It is easier to have your own car but there is a bus from Machynlleth to Corris, stopping very near to Trigfan. There is free street parking or in the village public car park which is less than 2 minutes walk away (free of charge).
Nearby is Machynlleth, the nearest market town which is 10 minutes by car. The market day is Wednesday, with an emphasis on locally grown produce. There is a theatre, the Museum of Modern Art, many galleries and a number of book shops, including antiquarian. The Centre for Alternative Technology is even closer, and is a good place for children, as are both Kings Arthur's Labyrinth and Corris Craft Centre. There is so much to do in the neighbourhood to suit everyone. The famous walk up the 'Giant Seat' Cadair Idris is about 15 minutes away. Aberdyfi (Aberdovey), the quiet seaside resort is only 15 miles away. The RSPB Ynys Hir nature reserve is 20 minutes by car. There are various golf courses in the area. The Unesco world Heritage Caernarfon Castle (where Prince Charles's investitute took place in 1969) is just over an hour away, and the highest mountain in Wales Snowdon is just under an hour away. Recommendations: If you like walking: Corris is situated only 2 miles south of the Snowdonia National Park, Cadair Idris is about 15 minutes away, Snowdon itself just under an hour away, and a plethora of superb walks start on your doorstep. There are also the two coastal paths, see “if you like the sea” below. If you like food: the market in Machynlleth is Wednesday, with an emphasis on locally grown produce. Your hosts Adam and Andrew grow their own local vegetables and sell free range pork and eggs. Fresh fish is available from the market on Wednesday, or from Aberdovey. It is lovely to meander the promenade in Aberystwyth and there are lots of restaurants. Our favourite is Ultracomida. If you like the sea: Aberdovey (Abertyfi in Welsh) is a delightful quiet seaside resort, and is only 15 miles away. Ynys Las nature reserve has mile long beaches. Bala is a well known family watersports lake resort. The Welsh Coastal path runs through Machylleth, only 10 minutes away and the Ceredigion coastal path begins 22 miles away. If you like trains: Corris steam railway is literally minutes away. There is also the Narrow Guage Railway museum in Tywin If you like wildlife: the RSPB reserve of Ynys –Hir is only 12 miles away If you like mountain biking: nearby trails include Mach 1,2,3, Climach-X and the Holey Trail If you like photography: not only do you have the Snowdonia National Park, but also the Mach Loop if you are interested in low flying fighting planes.
  • We had a wonderful time staying in Andrew's lovely house. It was cosy and well equipped with everything needed for our stay. The location is great for access to lots of wonderful nearby places, and Corris itself is a gorgeous little village. Communication with Andrew was clear and responsive. We highly recommend staying here.

  • We had a great three night stay at Trigfan over the May bank holiday and as a bonus we had great weather amazing. Andrew gave us perfect instructions on the low down on arrival and it couldn't have been easier. Communications was super quick We dropped off things outside the house then parked for three days in the car park round the corner by the train station. The house has everything you need, and there is great little shop called Idris stores if you need to stock up locally. If you like to cook , there is a well stocked kitchen, good sized fridge/freezer and a good sized oven and everything else you might need Decent supply of hot water and powerful shower if you have been walking or biking in the day. And the wifi is a good speed if you like to be connected whilst being away from it all. Would recommend and hope to stay again once day

  • We had a great stay at Andrew's house over the New Year. The cottage is really cosy and has a very warm and welcoming feel. We enjoyed using the log stove. Corris itself is very picturesque and friendly, and is ideally located for hiking (10 mins drive from the visitor centre for Cadair Idris) and for the beach.

  • Had a great long weekend here, very comfy, warm, cosy & peaceful cottage. Was a bit worried about the parking arrangements but it was no problem, we just parked at the end of the road for loading and unloading and then moved the car to the car park which was less than a minute's walk.

  • This feels like a proper country cottage - cosy, welcoming and a place that is really cared about by the hosts. I liked that it had a few quirky features as you would expect of an old cottage. The bedrooms in particular are very nicely furnished. And there was plenty if space for the four of us and a large dog. The location is great and only one minutes walk from the local pub which accepts dogs and serves very good and reasonably priced food. The drive is fairly narrow and steep so someone who wasn’t too confident at reversing might struggle a bit. Overall, would definitely recommend.

    Joanne2017-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place for getting away to. There's a pub just down the hill (food on some nights), and both Mach and Dolgellau aren't far away, with a nice cafe in Corris. The house is lovely & clean, and has all the stuff you need for a stay. We couldn't enjoy the garden during our stay - snowy weekend - but it's a lovely place to be able to come back to after a fun day of exploring the area.

  • In November this was good value rental. However, the quality of the cottage and furnishings was below par. The central heating was not working, there was a large hole the lounge wall behind a chair, and the kitchen was poorly equipped. We have stayed in much nicer and more comfortable cottages, although this cottage is well located to explore some beautiful parts of Wales.

Newly built and lovingly handcrafted to the highest specification for August 2017, by my husband Andy. Enjoy a wealth of wildlife from your own environmentally friendly luxury off-grid shepherd’s hut, next to a burbling stream. Comfortable and stylish, yet quiet and peaceful. We have another hut too, but both huts are located away from each other, fields apart! We respect that guests come to enjoy the privacy and tranquility of the countryside. We can sleep 4 with the addition of a 2 man tent!
Our hut is completely self-contained, so unlike most huts, you won’t need to venture out into the rain to use the loo at night… everything you need is all under one roof, with a state of the art eco-loo and a hot shower. Environmentally friendly and ‘off grid’ it is powered by solar panels. There is enough energy made to power the lights, and charge your mobile phone and laptop. There is also a cosy wood-burning stove for those chilly nights. There are plenty of activities and attractions to stimulate the adventurous and relax the work-worn. Set amongst acres of farm land and on the Glyndwr’s Way National Trail, ‘Cut Bèch’ is an ideal base for individuals and couples to explore one of the most picturesque parts of Mid-Wales, a haven for walkers, bird-watchers and cyclists. When you return from your adventure, why not sit on the decking outside and enjoy a well-deserved glass of wine, and tea cooked on our new gas BBQ, while watching the little lambs play in the field.
Machynlleth - 5 minute drive away - Charming market town. Train Station and bus service. Shops, pubs, restaurants and an award winning fish and chip shop. The Dyfi Osprey Project, a breeding site for ospreys, and the Centre for Alternative Technology are definitely worth a visit. Aberdyfi is only a 25 minute drive away, where you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach.
  • Our arrival to Sioned's and Andy's hut in Abercegir was very late (around 11pm) as we were both at work on that day. Although the late hour, we were welcomed by a well lit, clean and cosy hut that (and this is the most important feature of it) is located completely off the grid. No telephone signal at all! Only the sound of a mountain stream which runs almost next to the hut and baaing of sheeps from the close by farmhouse. The hut has got all you want for a romantic stay for two, or for a single person who looks for isolation from the noise of today's world. All amenities and the whole hut were prepared for us with attention to the tiniest detail. Our favorite thing in that hut is a little window by the bed, a small sneak peek to what is happening outside before you actually move out.. And the fire place which is very efficient and warms the whole place in no time. The hut is located nearby a little town Machynlleth (10 minutes drive) which offers plenty of eateries (there is that one vegetarian café where you get meals prepared from local ingredients and that one was our favourite) and further down to the coast, you will find more pleasure whether it's walking by the beach or simply driving around and admiring the Welsh nature. We cannot recommend Sioned's hut more, so don't hesitate if you are looking for quietness and peacfulness hosted by friendly people who are nearby whenever you need them.

  • As noted in the guest log, our stay was truly exceptional. We’ve not stopped thinking & talking about the little hut since we left! Peace, serenity, bliss and perfection. Were often disappointed to leave a trip & head home, but we were truly gutted to be leaving the gorgeous little paradise

  • Sioned and Andy's place is just perfect for a quiet weekend away. The hut is immaculately clean and tidy and is very well presented to a high standard. (We loved the cakes!) The hut is in an absolutely gorgeous area, on its own with just the cows around you. It's a perfect getaway from the stresses of life, a lovely place to unwind.

    Joe2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • The hut was all it was advertised to be and more. The location was beautiful with an uninterrupted view down a valley with no human habitation in site, just mountains, fields and trees. It is evident that Sioned and Andy have put a lot of thought, love and care into their hut and I will definitely want to revisit.

    Clare2018-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for everything! My friend and I had such an amazing time. Even tho we only saw Sioned once, she didn’t want to disturb us so she never bothered us, she was lovely and kind. We enjoyed the peaceful and quiet land around us. The hut was perfect, you can tell she cares about every little detail, that she is very passionate and that she loves her farm. I can’t wait to go back!!! If you are looking for a break from work or from your busy life, this is the perfect place. Buy a bottle of wine and enjoy the view! Thank you again for everything! Emma.

  • We have been looking to staying in a shepherds hut for ages. Obessesed with tinyhouses this was a must. We called it research but what we found was a beautiful hut with everything you could need nestled between a valley with the sounds of birds of prey over head. A great place to relax and enjoy. We wish we could have been there in bad weather to experience the wood burner but we had beautiful sunshine. We sat on the deck and soaked up the sun. Sioned and family were lovely and thoughtful, great with communication and the hut is perfectly laid out with everything you could think of. Lots of information to hand. Even the neighbours chatted with us and wished a pleasant stay, even when one kindly reversed up one of the narrow roads with a trailer for about 200 metres. We completely recommend all to go an have a wonderful experience.

    Adam2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place to stay! Quiet, but well located. Perfect for star gazing, warm and cosy with the log burner! Cute touches with scones, cupcakes and even a red rose for Valentine’s Day. Will definitely be back!

    Hannah2018-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We have a wonderful stay at the beautifully cute and quaint cabin. I didn't want to leave! Upon arrival, in the pitch black of a winter's evening - the directions were perfect and easy to follow, we were greeted with homemade scones and cakes! The cabin was perfect for a couples (and a dog) getaway, small compact but has everything you need. Very clean and tidy! The log burner was perfect to warm us after longs walks! Exceeded all my expectations! There is no phone signal which is perfect for being off the grid. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay! X

This exquisite gypsy caravan has been built to exacting standards. You can stand up inside and stretch out in bed, and see for miles, no roads, cars, or people, only birds sheep and trees. A snug wood burner keeps you warm. A separate kitchen cabin with incredible views is perfect for slow cooked meals. A complete retreat from the world. Stroll around the garden, climb a mountain, take a sauna or just relax. Let go of the outside world, no phones, no hassle, no intrusions, a simple life!
Staying in this space is like living in a jewel box. This caravan has been built by the artist owners on a large 1920s heavy horse cart (so even if you are 6' 6"you can stand up and stretch out) with beautiful hand carved and painted details, gold leaf, brocade and shiny brass work. Sit back, light a fire in the wood-burner, cosy up in bed and read a book, drink some wine, play a game or snooze in a super comfy bed and do absolutely nothing! We have also built a wooden canvas topped cabin for the kitchen with stunning views through the trees over the Cambrian mountains. Set at around 200m the space looks over rolling hills and woodland. You can also see the mountain Cader Idris from here. There is separate compost loo set a short distance from the wagon with a stunning view. Set on our isolated smallholding looking out over the mountains, the nearest house is nearly half a mile away, so you hear no traffic, just birds, wind and the rustling of interesting creative projects. You can take many different walks from here into the surrounding hills. There are also mountain bike circuits and plenty of wild tracks nearby. Bring all the food you might need as once here you wont want to burst the bubble by having to go shopping! We are currently working on a self contained wood burning shower for the space, but for now you will have to use the downstairs bathroom in the main house.
The surrounding countryside is rolling hills, mountains, sheep pastures, woodland and small Welsh villages. Plenty of walks, near to Glydwrs Way National trail. Amazing mountain biking on the doorstep. Near to The Centre of Alternative Technology. CAT. 15mins drive. Border of Snowdonia National Park 10mins. Coast and beaches 20mins. Aberystwyth 40mins. You can eat out in Machynlleth or Aberdyfi. Pubs, restaurants and a world class fish and chip shop.
  • This is a truly unique stay. A great experience: sleeping in such a cozy old-fashioned caravan. Luckily it isn't as old as it looks and has a very comfortable interior and is well isolated (important in our time of the year). After noticing we didn't feel much for going out anymore, we were provided with some food to prepare in the adjacent kitchen; a first class host! Finally, waking up to the stunning view, we regretted only staying for 1 night.

    Peter2016-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • The waggon is bigger than I expected, very clean and in a beautiful place! Jony and Pippa were also very friendly and we loved their dog Stella! :)

    Rebecca2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the shizzle! If you want an authentic amazing and beautiful experience, if you love nature and appreciate a rich and real way of being then this is your place. It's close to a gorgeous little town that has a lovely population of interesting people, market day on a Wednesday is awesome and lotsof cool little places to est and drink. The van itself is extraordinary and if we lived in the UK, this would be our regular getaway location because the van looks out over patchwork hills will sheep graxing and clouds floating in the sky peacefully. Jonny and Pippa are the coolest people and willing to help out with any info you might like. My only regret was that we could only spend one night in this haven. Next time we visit from Australia we are coming back!

    Annie2017-06-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent caravan, with a very friendly welcome & excellent views.

    ian2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. Definitely worth the drive out to this secluded, adorable caravan. The view is simply breathtaking. The caravan itself was comfortable and charming, full of handpainted details. The sauna and plung pool looked very tempting. If we are lucky enough to return, we would love to try this out.

    Jillian2017-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING This place is totally awesome, you will not be disappointed. Make sure you use the sauna and pool for a unique experience. Jony and Pippa are fabulous hosts....GO THERE NOW

    Maria2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning, out-of-the-way location. Perfect if you want to get away from it all.

    Josephine2017-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay here. An amazing location with the caravan and kitchen cabin looking out over the valley. The newly installed shower (also with nice view out) just behind the caravan was a bonus. For the folk who like a little more comfort this accommodation was actually very well equipped with lighting, a couple of power sockets, lanterns, towels and all the other little touches added by Jony and Pippa. Jony and Pippa have obviously put a lot of hard work into this place and it makes for a beautiful place to stay. If you’re unsure, don’t worry, just book it, you’ll love it! Also, don’t miss the opportunity to make the most of the sauna. Having a sauna is great, having a sauna and pool on the side of a hill (but not overlooked) looking out over the valley and hills beyond is unmissable! We spent a moonlit evening between the sauna and the plunge pool and we came away more relaxed than ever! Jony and Pippa are perfect hosts too. Genuinely kind hearted and lovely people. Enjoy your stay!

Dovey Valley Cottage is a cosy holiday cottage nestled on the bank of the river Dulas near Machynlleth, and within easy reach of Aberdovey, Dolgellau, Barmouth, Tywyn, Aberystwyth, Ynys Hir and Cadar Idris. This self-catering holiday cottage is ideally located for the coast and beaches, golf courses, beautiful walks, the RSPB nature reserve and mountain biking at Machynlleth and Coed-y-Brenin.
My cottage is self catering the nearest shop is 2.5 miles away, a car is useful but there is a bus service at the end of the road and railway station 3 miles away. Restaurants and dining can be found in Machynlleth (3 miles) Aberdovey beach (9 miles) cycling is very popular here as a Sustrans route runs past the door and some of the best mountain biking is 1.5 miles. You’ll love my place because of the views, the cosiness, and the location. My place is good for couples and families with children, however please be aware that there is no barrier to the river at the bottom of the garden so do consider this before booking.
The cottage stands alone on an unlisted road (Sustrans No.8 goes past the door) The original part of the building (home of the owners) was used for housing slate workers in the mid 19th Century who worked up at the quarry which is now the Centre for Alternative Technology. The guests cottage was added in the late 1990's.
  • The cottage is a cosy place to come home to after a day of hiking and walking. The kitchen is well equipped and small details like keeping aluminium foil and cling wrap available, made travelling with a toddler easier for us. There is plenty of information in the living room, with xeroxed guides and maps to take along for walks and hikes nearby. Some of the maps need updating, but were quite handy. Sylvia was very approachable while respecting our need for a quiet and private space given that they live on the premises. We would recommend the place to our friends and family.

    Amrinder2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying here. It has a beautiful view as well as everything you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday. Silvia is a wonderful host. We really enjoyed our stay and plan to visit again.

    Sara2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at this cottage was faultless. It’s so easy to find, the scenery is picturesque, the cottage is clean and has everything you could ever need. Sylvia’s homemade scones were amazing too. The log burner kept us cosy and Sylvia was happy to replenish our log supply when we were running low! We would love to stay here again and will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family. Thank you again!

    Sarah2017-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Sylvia's cottage is so wonderful, the location is brilliant and her hospitality exceptional-after a long drive we arrived late in the evening, welcomed by freshly baked scones and homemade jam! Can't recommend staying here highly enough and look forward to returning- this is a great base to explore Snowdonia and enjoy the local area. Many thanks Sylvia!

Newly built and lovingly handcrafted to the highest specification by my very talented husband, Andy for 2017. Enjoy a wealth of wildlife from your own environmentally friendly luxury off-grid shepherd’s hut, set in a secluded valley next to a burbling stream. The perfect ‘get away from it all’ romantic eco-retreat! Comfortable and stylish, yet quiet and peaceful. Mae croeso cynnes Cymreig yn eich aros. We have now got another shepherd's hut too, take a look...!
There is also a cosy wood-burning stove for those chilly nights, and to cook your meals and boil a kettle. There are plenty of activities and attractions to stimulate the adventurous and relax the work-worn. Set amongst acres of farm land and on the Glyndwr’s Way National Trail, ‘Cut Sinc’ is an ideal base for couples to explore one of the most picturesque parts of Mid-Wales, a haven for walkers, bird-watchers and cyclists. When you return from your adventure, why not sit on the decking outside and enjoy a well-deserved glass of wine, and tea cooked on our new gas BBQ, while watching the little lambs play in the field. Please note - There is no mobile phone signal at the hut, which is complete bliss!
  • Took my boyfriend here for his birthday as a surprise the look on his face when we arrived was everything I'd hoped for. Sioned and Andy were very welcoming and friendly on our arrival we were greeted by freshly made scones which were the icing on the cake! The sound of the stream running down the side of the hut was lovely and peaceful. I loved not being able to connect to the WiFi or my phone network gave us a chance to switch off from the world and enjoy each others company. During our stay we went to zip world where we went in to the caves for bounce below and we ventured to King Arthur's labyrinth on our last day we went to a falconry experience, 3 days wasn't long enough there is so much to do, we also didn't want to leave so we will be coming back in the near future. We enjoyed using the bbq outside on the decking to cook our food and boil the kettle. We used the wood burner on our last night which made the hut nice and toasty. The shower was excellent. I highly recommend, it went above and beyond our expectations. We can't wait to come back for longer. Thank you very much Sioned and Andy :)

    Amy2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolutely perfect 2 days. The location of the hut was so stunning and even better than expected. It would be hard not to feel relaxed in a place with such beautiful surroundings. The hut itself was idyllic and the perfect size for 2 people. Living off grid for 2 days was so refreshing and helped us to appreciate spending time together. We can't wait to return for another day, 2 days just wasn't long enough.

    Carlie2017-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulously relaxing weekend at the shepherd's hut, it was just what we were looking for. Handy location for mountain biking nearby. Sioned was super helpful and really quick to communicate before and during our stay, would definitely recommend if you're looking for a quiet getaway.

    Vicky2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • As soon as we spotted The Shepards Hut on airbnb we could not wait for our weekend break. The location was secluded and peaceful except for the Cuckoo. The hut was beautiful, had everything we could possibly want and beautiful furnishings. We made use of the BBQ both days, and when Sioned said the fire made the hut toasty she sure meant it. If you need a complete get away from everything break then do not hesitate and book a long weekend in this beautiful hut

    Caroline2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • Sioned and Andy's Shepherds huts is an amazing place, the location the amenities are exactly as described. no Wi-Fi no signal =bliss completely off grid yet only 10 mins away from town with cafes and restaurants. Even on the coldest night the stove soon heated up the space. Can't wait to return x

    Clare2017-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our weekend away at Sioned's place! It was so peaceful and exactly as stated. Everything worked perfectly for us and the woodfire oven was amazing, it heated the whole hut and we even needed to open a window (which was really soothing to sleep with as there was a running stream right next to us). Some special homemade treats on arrival was also a nice touch, and Frip the dog loved his stay too!! Thank you!!!

    Alison2018-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Shepard Hut is an absolute gem! My husband and I (along with our two fur babies) had such a peaceful weekend off the grid in this hideaway. Sioned was wonderfully helpful in leaving us a welcome pack, along with some tasty treats and some useful tips! The hut is driving distance from a small village with all you will need for a quiet escape. Aberdovey is also within 30 minutes and a mist for the dogs. We will definitely be returning!

    Amy2018-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the Shepherd's Hut. It was very clean and cosy and had everything we needed. The scones were lovely and we saved the slices of lemon cake until we were half way up Cadair Idris where they were especially welcome! It wasn't cold enough to use the wood burner but the BBQ was perfect for cooking burgers and making tea. Would highly recommend!

A lovely place awaits you in the stunning Snowdonia National Park! We're very much looking forward to welcoming you in our mixed European home! We have one double room and one single room (both upstairs) and we only ever take one booking at a time.
Pennal is ideally located 3 miles out of Machynlleth towards the ocean surrounded by hills & mountains. We have a sweet sunny single room and a very spacious double room (both upstairs) in Pennal, just 3 miles out of the popular town of Machynlleth and 6 miles to the nearest beach in beautiful Aberdovey. We only ever take one booking at a time. If you book for two people we will assume you want the double room to share for £49. If you want to book both rooms with one person staying in each, then we will give you a reduced rate for the double room (£39 for single occupancy) plus the single room which is £29. (both plus the Air BnB service fee). In this case then ask for this and we will then adjust your payment to reflect. Do let us know in advance as we need time to prepare the rooms requested. The same applies if your booking just for 1 person and you'd like the comfort to stretch yourself in a double bed, just let us know at the time of booking and we'll adjust the price. The default setting for the single room is £29 and booking the double room for 1 person will be £39 and for 2 people £49 (all plus the Air BnB service fee). There is a bathroom with shower and bath opposite the rooms and a lounge you are welcome to use. We also have an additional downstairs toilet and a washing machine & dryer should you need that (there is a little box for donations for the running cost next to them). We also have an electric piano we'd love you to play! (particularly if you know how to!) Tea, coffee and towels provided. We also have a lovely garden to relax in. We can offer you feather pillows and duvets or synthetic ones. Please let us know if you prefer one or the other. We provide a small self service continental breakfast (tea/coffee, muesli, milk/non-dairy milk, juice, fruit, toast & jam/marmalade) to get you started for your adventures of the day. If you like a cooked breakfast your best bet is the very fair priced Maengwyn Cafe in Machynlleth, a great traditional place serving all day yummy breakfast. They also have vegetarian options with the most delicious veggie sausages ever! They are open from 8.30am and 9am on Sundays. Plas Talgarth is a 5 minute walk from our house and has a bar and restaurant with great views. They also offer treatments and massages. For fine dining we have the famous "Riverside" pub in the village with 4.5 star reviews on tripadvisor. We sadly no longer have a village shop so the nearest shops are in Machynlleth. We are handy for those who wish to visit the 'Mach loop' A great location to explore in Pennal is the medieval hall house "Cefn Caer" where you can get a tour inside the walls where Owain Glyndwr ocassionally resided. Machynlleth is famous in Welsh history for being the site of Owain Glyndwr's parliament (the parliament house is still here, with an exhibition). There is also an art gallery with a classical music festival in the summer at the MOMA / Tabernacle and regular community events. Machynlleth is a market town (the market's on a Wednesday) with some lovely shops (we recommend Dyfi Wholefoods and Blasau deli as well as some great cafes). There are a few restaurants - the pizzeria is our favourite ... with one of the best pizzas on this planet! (it's part of the Wynnstay Hotel). We are just 5 miles from the Centre for Alternative Technology and 10 miles from the RSPB Ynyshir bird reserve where Springwatch was filmed. The Dyfi Osprey Project is also just up the road from there. The nearest beach is 6 miles away at Aberdyfi, or 14 miles to Borth. Aberystwyth is 21 miles, or half an hour on the train. Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Dyfi valley red kites are a regular sight and there are lots of good walks through hills, woodland or coast (the nearest mountain is Cadair Idris - Snowdon is an hour and a half away). There are several of the best mountain bike trails in Wales nearby and bikes to hire. A craft centre and steam train is 8 miles up the road in Corris and the Talyllyn steam railway in Tywyn, also home to the Magic Lantern Tywyn Cinema a beautiful Victorian picture house with a bar and two stages. Thanks to a recent grant it is now 3D and unbelievably has the best projector in the UK (the brand new Sony 4K with a Dolby 7.1.1 sound system). Machynlleth is on a direct train route 2.5 hours from Birmingham, and with connections both to Aberystwyth and North Wales (Barmouth, Criccieth and Pwllheli - a really lovely train trip up the coast). The station is under 10 minutes drive/bus ride from our house. We came here for a visit over 14 years ago and never left - so plenty to do for a few days in one of the most beautiful parts of the world!
  • It was cozy and friendly. Jo gave us a warm welcome, the rooms and the whole house is made with so much love and comfort, we would come back

    Eric2016-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay with Jo and Manu. House was lovely, warm and nicely decorated. Jo and Manu were very pleasant and were always willing to help. A very comfortable stay in a great area of Wales.

    Michael2016-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • The route to Manu and Jo place was (by my fault) chaotic but beautiful and we lately made it in one piece! We have been rewarded by being offered tea and we finally staid up until an unusual 2 am. They own a lovely house and made us a great (bio) breakfast. I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in what is probably the most beautiful part of Wales (Snowdonia).

    Quentin2016-05-22T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed one night with Jo and Manu, it was everything an air b+b should be. Jo booked me a table at the local pub in advance, I was welcomed warmly and introduced to their comfortable clean home. My room was not large, but plenty big enough for a single traveller. Breakfast was a feast of healthy cereal fruit etc. I have no hesitation in recommending Jo and Manu

    Ray2016-06-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed one night at Jo's and Manu's and really enjoyed it. The communication before we arrived was very good. They booked a table for us at the pub nearby. The rooms were very comfortable and cozy and the breakfast was great with lots of choice. We would definitely recommend Jo's and Manu's.

  • We had a great stay with Jo and Manu in their beautiful house. It was lovely to be welcomed with a good cup of tea, nice conversation and good advice. The room is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We can recommend Jo and Manu to anybody who wants to explore the south of Snowdonia Nationalpark!

  • Had a lovely stay with Jo & Manu. Perfect balance of attentive but not intrusive, lovely intelligent conversation, kind and considerate people. The house and room were clean, had a lovely vibe, a hot shower, and there was a lovely breakfast. The surroundings are beautiful and routes and places were suggested for exploration - I will definitely be returning to enjoy the mountains further. Great place, great hosts, fully recommend. 10/10 would go again.

  • Jo and Manu have created a very cosy comfy haven, warm welcoming and with lovely generous touches.... a little snack with tea upon arrival, a little chocolate exquisitely presented among the beautifully folded towels on my bed, huge amounts of local info in the little booklet...and amazing pillows ..a good hot shower...lovely self service breakfast with lots of yummy things to choose from and beautifully presented...and more. I was made to feel welcome, and (Website hidden by Airbnb) was SO nice to sit by the log burner and have a chat. AND, I could park just outside. Oh, and the countryside around them and views from the house are wonderful !

Crafted from local cedar with lakeside location.
Countryside with great walks and views
  • 'Hyfryd' is the Welsh word to describe our stay at Caban Cilfa, which means ' wonderful'. The caban is in a stunning location, in a peaceful valley, on the edge of a small pool, in which we swam every morning. We were looking to get 'away from it all', and we certainly did! The whole construction of the caban is a masterful piece of architecture (which is Dafydd's profession). The floor to ceiling windows give a superb view out onto the hills. We didn't need to use the wood burning stove as it was warm enough. The bed is very comfortable and there are enough cooking facilities to self-cater should you wish, which we did. We enjoyed sitting out on the decking to eat and watch the beautiful dragonflies and wealth of bird life. The tiny bathroom worked well. Having said that, the shower and the space between the bed and bathroom may have been a tight squeeze had we been larger than we are :-) The 5K loop walk up on the hills is beautiful, giving a breathtaking 360 degree view from the top. The instructions were comprehensive and recommendations of what to do in the area was knowledgeable, showing a real love and passion for the country and area. I cannot recommend this location highly enough for a restorative time away.

  • This Caban was an amazing retreat from our busy lives. We took two dogs with us who absolutely loved the fire keeping them toastie and the 5K walk from the Caban offers great views! We had arrived early and luckily we’re allowed to check in early. The Caban is finished to a very high standard with everything you need and was extremely clean. One of our dogs is reactive so this quite quaint place offered the perfect getaway for the whole family.

  • Me and my husband had a lovely time, would highly recommend if you want to get away from it all. The hut was in a lovely location, beautiful scenery and had loads of places to walk with our dog. We will definitely be going back!

    Danielle2018-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing, I highly recommend it and have already done so to several friends. It is extremely private, quiet, and beautiful. If it’s clear at night there are so many stars and in the morning when you wake up you find yourself on a lake surrounded by sheep.

    Trey2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Caban Cilfa, the location was perfect for exploring South Snowdonia. The lake is beautiful and you get to share it with the most magical dragonfies. Dafydd was kind enough to let us stay an extra night when we were enjoying the stay so much!

    Rosie2018-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • amazing location, ideal for a weekend get away or de tox or de stress from city life. Would recommend to all my friends!

    Dan2018-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cabin in the South of Snowdonia, just what you need for a weekend out of the city. Easy to find and check in, Dafydd provides wonderful instructions on how to get there and what activities to do in the area. We managed to get hot water the first night, but weren't able to work it out the second night, Dafydd did provide us with a contact number to call if we had problems, but we decided it wasn't a big issue. But it is good to know that if we wanted it sorted Dafydd would be able to help. Would recommend and I'm sure ill be back in the future :)

    Sarah2018-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • My partner Jason and I (plus our border collie Scout) had the BEST time staying at Dafydd's caban on the lake. The scenery was beautiful and standing outside - even in chilly autumn - everything was so serene and pretty. Inside was warm and cosy thanks to the wood burner and everything we could possibly need was at our fingertips. We really appreciated how easy it was to access the property and the detailed notes supplied us with plenty of walking trails to choose from. We spent a glorious day following the trail up through the hills and met Dafydd on our way down and could compliment him in person; Scout was probably the most grateful and demonstrated this suitably.... Thanks so much for hosting us and our mad cap hound. We really loved it and would come back in a heartbeat.x

Situated on a steep hillside this house is two slate quarry workers cottages made into one comfortable house.
This is a place to retreat to, away from the hustle and bustle. The single bedrooms are small but the double is very roomy.
The area was extremely important in the age of slate and there are mementos of that time to be seen everywhere.
  • Richard kindly showed us around the fantastic and unique cottage in Corris. He was friendly, punctual and quick to respond (and flexible) to a couple of requests we made during our stay. I would definitely recommend Richard as an Airbnb host and staying at the Corris cottage! Caveats relating to accessibility are accurately provided in the cottage description, so please review beforehand.

  • Amazing location and the perfect base to explore the beautiful surroundings. Corris is a lovely village with a great little local pub. The cottage is clean and spacious with everything you need and set in a beautiful location up above the village. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to stay in an authentic Welsh cottage in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.

    Gus2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely, comfortable cottage with a unique, fascinating garden. Corris itself is a pretty village with a fabulously cafe/shop.

    Meike2018-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is wonderful - quirky and full of charm. It is also very clean. Comfortable beds and spacious bedrooms made our day after climbing the nearby Cadair Idris. Bathrooms and kitchen also met all our needs with the kitchen being well equipped. We had a very good weather so we spent some time admiring the views from the terrace in front of the house while enjoying a glass of wine or a cuppa. The track in front of the house will take you either up to the disused quarry with a view point or down to the picturesque village of Corris. Personally we didn't mind leaving the car by the road and the long way leading up to the house even though we had few heavy bags with us. Richard is an amazing host. He kindly came over and shared with us the history of the house. I would highly recommend it to everyone who loves walking and I am hoping to go back there next year.

    Joanna2018-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Slightly remote cottage is cosy, spotless and well equipped with modern central heating, instant hot water, electric shower, kitchen equipment, etc. Needs only cosy armchairs! Richard communicates promptly and is attentive to detail. Thanks.

  • This place is nestled in a beautiful valley and has brilliant views from the front door. It’s right on the doorstep of some of the most amazing roads, mountains and scenery mid wales has to offer. Spotlessly clean and full of original features inside, the cottage fees like home after only a few moments. The gardens will amaze, miniature models of some great Italian landmarks litter the grounds as far as you can see.

    Robert2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a very lovely, large cottage, with a fantastic model village behind & to the sides. The downside was it was up a very long, steep hill & we didn’t realise this before hand.

    Carol2018-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely Very steep walk from the road up to the cottage Corris has a nice pub and tea shop (shop has basic supplies - but suggest you bring yur own)

Located in the stunning and remote 'Artists Valley' (with Beavers!) this charming Self Contained House is in a 75 acre conservation and permaculture site. With unparalleled views, an ideal base for walking, enjoying nature and rural family retreats.
An hours walk to the nearest road, this place is for honest folk who are looking for a simple rural retreat. The Cottage is not glamorous - a simple cowshed conversion done in the 80's - and updated as much as we can manage right now, but warm, cosy and equipped with everything you should need! Ideal as well for riding groups who can stay overnight and keep horses in the field. From beach to us it is a gorgeous days ride! Following the popularity of our 'Rustic Cottage' and 'Narnia' over the last 3 years, we are now offering 'Lavender Cottage' (please feel free to look at our other 5 star reviews for reassurance that you will be well looked after!) 'Lavender Cottage' is a modern conversion of the original outbuildings, so is stone on the outside but nicely decorated, more modern and well insulated inside. Although simply furnished, (we are running a conservation project that is subsidised by the Cottages - so we are mostly skint!) it has new glazing and carpets and is easy to heat. It is a fully self-contained Cottage with an open plan kitchen/diner and lounge and has a small bathroom downstairs and has 2 large double bedrooms above. The Cottage adjoins the main buildings on one side and faces South looking out onto the bird enclosure and Valley beyond. Anyone who may have problems with a cockerel 'going off' in the morning - consider yourself warned ;) The kitchen is bright, clean and homely with an electric cooker, new fridge, a washing machine and a separate older freezer under the stairs. You also have a microwave, toaster, tea towels and kettle etc... Clothes will dry well on the radiators, but if you need to use a tumble-dryer for soggy emergencies, please ask me at the main house :) We have stocked the kitchen with all the cooking utensils and crockery that you should need (please let us know if anything is missing:) and we are building up a 'rolling stock' of core cooking condiments, oil, tea and spices so that guests should only need to bring their main ingredients with them and should be all set! The little bathroom has a new shower (not a 'power shower' as we are half way up a mountain and our water is gravity fed from spring!) but no bath tub :( - hopefully, that will not bother too many people x Towels and toilet tissue are supplied. The circular dining table will seat 4 people if you choose to eat indoors.... otherwise, why not try a BBQ over the fire pit next to the stream or sit on the patio?! The open plan lounge has a 3 seater sofa and two comfy armchairs - ideal for a family or group of friends to relax at the end of a days exploring! There is a TV (connected to a freesat box) which receives the main 'freeview' channels and a DVD player. An eclectic selection of DVDs is in the Cottage (for adults and children)... or bring some from home? x Upstairs, there is one VERY large double room (facing South) with a Kingsize bed and a smaller child's bed. The mattress is brand new and very comfy! The second double room has a gorgeous old-fashioned but smaller double bed and one single bed. The sleeping arrangements would be suitable for two couples, a group of friends or a family with children, and are pretty flexible too if things need moving around a bit. For young families -please let us know if need to borrow our travel cot :) Please note that the £7 per night surcharge for extra guests also applies however small the people are, so babies and toddlers are included (as we have found that families with young children tend to use more heating). x The central heating works very well and runs on LPG (Liquid Gas) in cannisters - you can switch the heating on and off as you prefer. The electricity supply runs on an (ancient!) coin meter ('old' 1£'s!).... as it used to be a rental property - we have good supply we can swap for new ones! Usually, £2 per day should be ample unless you have the cooker on constantly or a very serious tea habit ;) x Although there is little Wifi in Lavender Cottage right now, there is however, a good signal in the new Breakfast Room and WiFi all around site. Our connection here at the end of the Valley can on occasion, be temperamental - so just in case, best not to rely on it for life and death situations... but it is normally more than adequate to check emails, download films and make internet video calls. In addition to exploring the whole Permaculture and Conservation site, you would also be able to make the most of our new 'Breakfast Room' - a 10 metre Conservatory with glass on 3 sides, tables and chairs to sit at and comfy sofas at the other end. This gorgeous space is for use by everyone at Blaeneinion and is perfect to relax in or check emails on wetter days - please see the photos :) There are lots of plants, a piano, a stereo system, some childrens toys (wooden Brio train set has been very popular!) jigsaws and a growing and eclectic mixture of books to enjoy. It is a great spot to enjoy looking out at the stars in the evening or enjoying a glass of wine after a long days walking and exploring :) The breakfast room gets super-hot on Summer days and comfortably warmed too by even the merest sunshine even in Winter.... the stone wall internally retains heat like a big storage heater well into the evenings. There are delicious home-made jams for sale in the Breakfast room, and please ask if you would like eggs, jams or fresh veggies produced on site. (Please note that 2017 has been tricky - so much less around this season :( ) x We encourage folk to minimise car use - and are very happy to provide a taxi service to and from the station at Machynlleth within reasonable hours for £10 if you need it. Please get in touch if this is of interest. Also an apology that we cannot accept pets on site - we love animals and have lost both poultry and wild birds and animals from dog attacks. Even the most well-behaved dogs leave a strong scent which deters the wild animals from coming near the house... and although we know it's not their fault, we just have to be strict on this issue. We hope you can understand.
Our neighbourhood is very quiet, secluded and tranquil. The air is clean, you can see the stars and we never hear sirens!
  • I cannot rate this place highly enough! We had been before, about 3 years ago, and had such an amazing time then, but even with high expectations it did not disappoint. Lavender cottage was a great place to stay. Really well thought out accommodation and had everything you could possibly need. Great introductory booklet that told you everything you needed to know. Great recycling facilities. Blaeneinion itself is such a great place to explore with all its animals, plants and amazing landscape and watching the beavers every night is always such a highlight! Sharon is a very attentive and friendly host.

    Laura2017-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful relaxing time at Sharons place! It's the perfect hide away when you want a break from everyday life. Our son (20 months) had a blast chasing the chicken and feeding the geese. There's so much to see and to explore. Sharon was very welcoming and helpful with everything. We would definetly recommend a stay!

  • If you want peace and quiet in a beautiful secluded area, this is the place. Chickens, geese, ducks and cats roam around adding a uniqueness and of course the pleasure of seeing the beavers. Cosy and warm accommodation and very friendly and helpful host.

  • What can I say! A dream location. Secluded, rural and bursting with nature. We are a family of four and our kids (4 and 5) loved it here and so did we! Forest walks, building fires, making dens, tree swings, river crossing, and a slew of animals. We had an amazing time. Sharon is a great host and the environment here is truly special.
