Top-rated things to do in Powys

Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • Archery
We are a Covid secure venue with all necessary requirements in place. I will meet and greet you when you arrive at the centre. After a very informal chat, I will run through the activity and will explain all the necessary safety procedures in place. We have a range of bows suitable for left or right handed archers. Each member will begin at a 5 metre distance from the target until they are deemed ready, by me, to move back to the 10 metre line. Once they have mastered this distance we will move to the final distance of 15 metres. During your session we will play a number of archery competitions to see who will be the hotshot of the day. We may even end with you shooting some balloons. Please message me with any questions or if you require booking another date.

  • Alpaca Meet & Greet in Wales
Babbling Brook Alpaca Experiences consist of a meet and greet session followed by a gentle wander around our land. The experience lasts approximately 90 mins. During the experience, you will meet our 5 alpaca boys, see them close up and hand feed them, learn about alpacas and their colourful history, valuable fibre and how to care for them. You'll then take them for a short walk around the fields, leading them on halters. You will have plenty of great photo opportunities. Other things to note Unfortunately dogs cannot walk with the Alpacas as it makes them little nervous. However we can provide doggie care during your time with the Alpaca's should you need it! This experience caters for all ages and abilities. We can tailor to your own needs.

On the summit of Pen Y Fan Dorian will help you orientate yourself by pointing out the major constellations. • Axe Throwing
Axe Throwing maybe relatively new to the UK but it's quickly gaining popularity. The reason for this is very simple, it is just so satisfying throwing axes. There is no better feeling than when the axe is thrown perfectly in to the board. It is very addictive and once you've got the correct technique, you will want to throw again and again. The activity sounds rather dangerous but with our safety measures in place, it is 100% safe. We begin with a safety briefing and move on to our practice boards once everyone is confident to throw. After a few practice throws, we take on the scoring targets, where it really gets fun. The targets are made out of rings, with each ring scoring higher points than the previous one. The dead centre ring (the bullseye) has the highest amount of points. The objective during the six rounds is to score the highest and to beat the opposition. Please be aware that this experience is for those aged 16 years and upwards. The axes we use are not suitable for anyone under this age. To summarise the experience is very relaxed, unique and is a whole lot of fun. Even those of you who have tried axe throwing before, will be surprised how different our experience is. Outdoor axe throwing is very different to indoor. If you are looking to book a different date or time (including weekends) please message me.

  • See the Brecon Beacons At Night
A wonderful and rare opportunity to see the Brecon Beacons in all its truly night – time glory. The Brecon Beacons National Park is a registered Dark Sky Reserve. In fact it’s often described as a five million star hotel – and we’d love to show you why. Meeting at a place that is most convenient for you, I will give a short talk on First Aid and Health and Safety. Then we'll set off! On the way I’ll tell you about the history of the park and point out some of it’s features, and at the top we’ll spend some time taking in the beauty of the stars, constellations and planets that I’ll point out to you. Oh – and we’ll enjoy some of my amazing hot chocolate too! We do this because we enjoy it, and we do all we can to ensure that you do too. Take a look at our reviews – we think they bear us out. So we take our time, enjoy the walk and hopefully when we come down, we’ll part as friends. Other things to note: This event can go ahead in all weathers, but we tailor things to you. If the weather forecast says it’s too risky or dangerous, then we won’t take you up – and in those circumstances we make sure you’re refunded in full. Equally if it’s safe but cloudy, we can try a different date, or make sure you’re refunded in full. Alternatively if you want to come along to experience the thrill of hiking the mountains at night, stars or no stars, then come along with us!
