Awarded 4 Stars by Visit Britain. Guests say the lodge is clean, comfortable, cosy, beautifully appointed, relaxing and good value. Perfectly placed in the Northern Lake District, near Penrith, Keswick, Ullswater, Derwentwater and Bassentwaite lake.
The Lodge has been described by previous visitors as clean, comfortable, cosy, beautifully appointed, relaxing and very good value for money. The Lodge is perfectly placed in the northern Lake District to explore the whole region by car, not far from towns Penrith, Carlisle and Keswick nestling on the fringe of Greystoke Forest. Ullswater, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake are within easy reach as are many delightful climbs - Catbells, Blencathra and Latrigg to name just a few. Castlerigg Stone Circle, just outside Keswick, is perhaps the most atmospheric and dramatically sited of all British stone circles. The Lodge is our private holiday home and is comfortably furnished and equipped to a high standard. There are 2 twin bedrooms sleeping 4 people comfortably, fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, open plan lounge/dining area with flat screen TV, DVD and Hi-fi. Landline and Free Wifi Internet connection. The Lodge benefits from a south facing decked balcony equipped with patio table and chairs from which you can relax and enjoy the abundant wildlife.
  • My wife and I stayed here with our 5 month old son for 3 nights. It was perfect. Lovely lodge; well equipped with new and good quality items. Very clean! The quilts and pillows are good quality down. We loved that the lodge wasn't on a busy site and it was fairly away from 'stuff'. However only a quick 15 minute drive or so to Keswick and Penrith. Ralph was great. He called us on the first night to check everything was ok and to advise us of local amenities and things to do. We will definitely be staying here again when we need that relaxing break!

  • Lovely holiday lodge, On a very well kept holiday park - with other cabins nearby. Location good for exploring the north lakes by car. Greystoke village nearby has a nice pub. Red squirrels, badgers and views of beautifull trees from your front room. Well equiped, homely and very clean.

    Michael2016-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Ralph's place is fantastic and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A quick drive away from downtown Penrith and many attractions in the Lake District. If I ever come back to the area, I'll try to stay at this spot again.

    Benjamin2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • A warm, cosy and clean log cabin with great amenities for self catering. The blinds with black out curtains meant we had a fantastic sleep! Ralph was very attentive and genuinely caring about our stay. We would definitely recommend and we shall be returning.

    Clare2016-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • My mother and I couldn't have asked for a better place to begin exploring the Lake District. Clean, comfortable, contemporary, Ralph's home quickly became our home. Ralph was gracious and expedient in his replies, though the only time we needed to contact him was to see if we could extend our stay! Thanks, again, Ralph, for a wonderful experience.

    Jeffrey2014-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Ralph was a perfect host, he wasnt there to meet us but emailed me detailed instructions on how to reach and access the property. The cabin itself has an informative manual and Ralph also ran me on our arrival to check if everything was alright and to give us advice on what to do in the area.

    Sarah2016-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage. It felt as if we were at home. It is situated at the edge of the Lake District in a rural area with farms all round. We used the cottage as a base to explore the Lake District further in our car. The cottage has all the amenities one would need, and is big enough for a family of four. Due to some conflicting engagements, we had to postpone our plan by a day, but Ralph was very helpful and moved our booking without a problem. We will definitely stay hear again, and also recommend it to our friends who are visiting.

    Arnav2015-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay and can't wait to go back. Ralph was very welcoming and we felt that if there were any problems (there weren't) we knew he would resolve them as soon as he could. The lodge is a lovely space to spend time in and relax and the location is second to none. We can't fault any of it. Thank you!

  • Our cottage, Grisdale View at Near Howe, was an idyllic place to spend a few days in the beautiful Lake District. It was such a cosy, warm and attractive little home - just like the photographs show. The best part for me was the view of green hills from the windows in the lounge. I could sit at the little table and stare out into the beautiful English countryside with a cup of tea, wifi - what could be better? Steve was very helpful, and the cottages are clearly very well run. The beautiful town of Keswick is a few miles away, and you are truly in the most beautiful, scenic spot to enjoy the natural beauty around you.

    Debra2017-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable stay at Near Howe. Plenty of space for the four of us to relax in the converted stable building, and lovely well kept gardens to explore. There are lots of toys and dvds available to borrow, and friendly Tia the dog who was great with our kids, even though they tend not to be great dog lovers. Near Howe is quiet and secluded, but well placed for exploring the immediate area as well as further afield. We had a great time - thanks!

    Alastairpickard2017-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous little cottages in a beautiful location, well equipped, great heating. Only thing to improve the place were if towels were included (though clearly stated that they are not).

    Rose2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottages were in a stunning location and perfect for where we needed to be for our event over the weekend. The space was big enough for our group and the shower had good power and enough hot water to shower three very sweaty and muddy people after the Race the Sun triathlon! I'd recommend the cottages to anyone fancying a weekend in the Lake District, a little way from the main town and some local pubs. Only comment I would make was we were surprised to find no hand soap in the toilet and no basic supplies in the kitchen (tea, coffee, oil) so be sure to bring some for your stay so you can have a morning brew!

    Eloisa2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely remote location surrounded by beautiful rolling fields and panoramic views!

    Isaac2017-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Superb location, sparking clean, Steve personally checks in his guests explaining everything and is always available in the background to offer any assistance his guests may ask for. Would love to visit again.

    SUMANTA2017-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Grisdale View is not a typical airbnb booking:it is very strictly self-catering (bring your own soap for example), and involves an unusual level of requests and instructions on caring for the cottage and site. That said, it is a very high standard accommodation in a beautiful location. Although we did not meet Steve, he was very helpful prior to our arrival.

  • First class. The pod is lovely and the area beautiful. JoAnne is on hand for questions and is very helpful. Right on the edge of the national park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Steve2017-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful peaceful stay at JoAnne's pod. There are some lovely scenic walks in the area and it proved a nice home base to explore the lakes. JoAnne was very quick to assist with any problems, and a lovely host.

    Lana2017-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • The glamping pod was perfect! Had everything we needed and was spotless. JoAnne was a great host and was helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend a stay here!

  • JoAnne was great at communicating and really helpful. We weren't able to use the reservation in the end and we're really disappointed as it looked amazing.

    Nicola2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay in Middlethorpe! Jo Ann was very accomodating and the check in was very easy. The only negative is that we couldn't stay longer!

    Tom2017-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • The glamping pod is a little gem, in a lovely, quite and scenic location. The pod itself is as described, it seems small from the outside but has adequate room on the inside, perfect for a couple. The pod itself is very warm and we didn't have to use the heating, shower is great and the bed is really comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others visiting the lakes. To get to the infamous osprey view points is around a 15-20 min drive and in to Keswick is around the same. Overall a lovely experience and Joanne was a fantastic host, happy to help in all aspects.

  • I thoroughly recommend holidaying at Blencathra cottage. Set on the outskirts of Mungrisdale village, the location is truly awesome among the vibrant hills. A prefect retreat for getting back to some well-needed simplicity and serenity. The cottage itself is traditional, authentic and charming. You will find here everything you need to enjoy cooking and nesting after a long day around the lakes. I especially enjoyed Dorothy's art in the bathroom and Tom (being a potter) delighted at the collection of stoneware jugs. Dorothy and Greg are very warm hosts and lovely people, we would've been pleased to have seen more of them. Tom and I both agreed we would like to come back in the future.

  • We absolutely loved staying here. The accommodation is very clean, cosy and charming, the perfect getaway! We would not hesitate to stay again!

    Adele2015-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Dorothy's place is secluded but still close enough to Keswick to allow easy access to the many attractions of The Lakes. The bed was extremely comfortable, bathroom was large and the kitchen was well equipped - including a slow cooker. The location of the property is idyllic looking over farmland towards the hills in the distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Dorothy was extremely helpful in providing information on walks and attractions in the area

  • Such an amazing cottage, very cosy and homely which made coming back each evening after hiking in the lake districts that much better! Dorothy was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed. The location is very easy to get to but yet hidden away in the countryside- it’s a perfect retreat after a long day. I truly recommend to anyone visiting the lakes!

    Sarah2017-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely tranquil place to stay. Wonderful views of the surrounding area and chairs/table to enjoy dinner looking over the scenery. Easy drive to Keswick. Need a car. Dorothy was an excellent host.

  • A sweet cottage with views to Blencathra, Dorothy is a lovely host.

    Naomi2015-05-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is delightful, as is its garden, surrounded by fields and facing a large fell (hill). There's a lovely view from a picture window. It is close to Keswick and the delights of the Lake District. Dorothy is a very interesting, wise, interested and talented woman (I didn't get to meet her husband) and we had a couple of great conversations, with many parallel experiences. She is a great airbnb host!

Great pub across the road, hosts were really friendly and always happy to help. Cosy rooms decorated nicely. Such a great breakfast which you can enjoy with views over the fells. Would definitely come again! Thanks :-)

  • Stephanie's B&B is in a great location for a short stop-over for any traveller with its road links. We felt very welcomed on arrival, and the food suggested across the road was delicious. Breakfast was great and served quickly. We travelled from Skye to Bristol and found this a great middle point for the journey, and would recommend it for anyone else planning a long trip north.

  • Great little place to stay. Close to Keswick and Penrith. We were visiting Rookin house activity centre which was less than a ten minute drive away. We decided to go for dinner and some drinks in Keswick on the Saturday as Troutbeck is very quiet and Dean was nice enough to drive us there, then it was easy to get a taxi back. Very welcoming hosts!

  • The accommodation was exactly as we'd hoped... clean, spacious, well equipped and the leisure facilities in the complex were ideal with a reasonable gym, pool, steam room, sauna and a table tennis table with no additional hidden fees. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good beginning to a weekend break or airbandb though as after a reasonable drive across it transpired that our room was double booked on the 2nd night, potentially leaving us without a place to stay on a Saturday night. I was offered a refund by air B&b should the host fail to contact me within half an hour as we couldn't get ahold of him. When the owner then contacted me, he stated he had contacted the complex receptionist and the key should be left and booking was confirmed for the full weekend. When I passed the phone to the manager, she explained that she had another customer moving into the same room the following day. When the phone was passed back to me, he then stated he had made it very clear when he talked to me that we couldn't stay on the Saturday'. Controversially, I had never spoken to him and there was nothing on the booking confirmation to suggest anything other than a Friday and Saturday stay with check in and out dates. Very fortuitously, the manager of the hotel/apartment complex was lovely and had one apartment left (approx 100+ apartments) so we were very thankful for her support, especially as she had never had any guests use air B and B for any bookings there before and was under no obligation to help us. She moved a few other guests around for us to make our stay feasible. It was embarrassing having 3 staff and the manager being called at the venue to solve the host's poor organisation but then greatest annoyance was the host's attitude, blaming us for his error and then not really having another option, leaving both me and my wife concerned whether we'd have anywhere to stay at late notice and a long way from home. In summary, lovely place, perfect location and setup for couples and families and I'd highly recommend it but double check with the owner and the complex that it isn't double booked.

Private double room in a charming 16th century house. A breakfast of fresh fruit, cereal and my own free range eggs is provided free of charge.
This house really is unique. Whilst it is very old it has a warm and friendly feel to it. There are no spooks, creaks or strange noises at night. Surrounded by countryside it is very quiet and the perfect place to relax. There is BBQ equipment that can be made available to guests. I also have another double room available so if your date is already booked just message me and I will try my best to accommodate you. :)
Greystoke village is roughly 5 miles from Penrith (junction 40) which is a sizeable town. There are various supermarkets, independent shops, farm shops, restaurants, a cinema etc. The village itself however has a very good shop and post office. There are also plenty of good local pubs to choose from. The village pub is a 10 minute walk from the house. My house is roughly 7 miles from Lake Ullswater and the famous Pooley Bridge. Keswick is 20 minutes down the A66 and from there you can navigate your way to Ambleside, Windermere etc. This really is one of the most beautiful areas of the UK if not the world.
  • My husband, pup and I stayed with Odette for a night and absolutely loved it. It is the perfect place to get out of the city, especially with a dog, and enjoy the peaceful countryside in a house full of character. Odette was so warm and friendly, and we felt so very welcomed in her home. We enjoyed a lovely poached-egg breakfast the next morning, thanks to her rescue hens, and were quite sad to leave so soon.

    Nicole 2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent short trip to Odette's home. The building is fabulous, location is wonderful and Odette is a brilliant host. Would recommend to anyone who appreciates lovely old buildings, quirky but comfortable places and being in glorious nature - well worth a visit!

    Cath2017-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • It's impossible to articulate the charm of this house without actually visiting; the history and character are just fantastic - the description is accurate, it is practically falling down, but that's a huge part of the appeal! Odette, the hostess, Ena and Toad (the dogs!) couldn't have been more welcoming. It's a 10 min walk to the decent local pub, then back for a bottle of wine in front of the fire with the dogs! It's not your usual BnB, it's gloriously quirky and we couldn't recommend the house or Odette highly enough. Fab x

    Matthew2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • It's a nice 400 years old English cottage. The landladies are absolutely nice and they have lovely animals at home. I have spent a great time in their house!

    Ting2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely unusual place, amazing building with all the facilities you need. Odette is lovely and made me feel at home straight away after an interesting chat with her. Ideal location for what I needed.

    Rob2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • One of a kind - exactly the kind of place we would look for. A house of great character, atmosphere and probably history, although we didn't stay long enough to discover that. If you usually only go for travel lodges then this probably isn't for you. Friendly, welcoming host. Next time we go to the lakes we would choose this again. Home from home!

    Pippa2017-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as Odette describes - her home is bursting with character and charm. Definitely for those that appreciate older homes and relish the experience of somewhere different. I absolutely loved staying here! The room was lovely and overlooked the front drive and fields. I used Odette's place as a base to explore through the Lakes District a bit and it was perfectly situated for this. Odette was a brilliant host, very easy to talk to and I felt like I'd known her for years after just a few minutes. If I ever manage to get back to this area, I'll definitely be staying here.

    Sam2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here should be required travel for all who are in the area. The house is great, the dogs are great, and Odette is great fun!

  • We had a peaceful, relaxed and lovely stay. It was a wonderful break from routine chores. Excellent property and had no issues whatsoever. Thank you.

  • Lovely room in a beautiful setting and incredible views. John is a very attentive host. The bathroom is on the floor below if you are worried about stairs in the night. We loved our stay here and are looking forward to our next visit (good breakfast too!).

  • John was very welcoming and bent over backwards to try and help us. He even bought gluten free sausages for us as we said we wouldn't be able to eat at the local pub. We enjoyed tasting his home brewed bramble brandy and stroking his lovely cats.

  • John's place is very quiet with a wonderful view over the hills. The village is small but has a really nice coffee shop where we had lunch and a great pub where we had dinner. Everyone was very friendly. John took us on a walk over the fells with a view over Derwent Water which was great. An easy walk which you could do with or without a guide. The room was on the top floor and very large, and John gave us breakfast in the morning too. A great place to stay if you wish to step out of the door, into the hills and go walking!

  • Our stay at John's was amazing. As we were his first guests he was very kind and had a lot of lovely treats for us. He suggested us things to do in the Lake District and the more suggestive roads to drive. Definitely recommended!

Our house is in the stunning North Lakes. It's situated between Keswick (9 miles) and Penrith (7 miles) . Walking distance to two local Lakeland pubs and public transport. It's situated in the quiet village of Penruddock with surrounding fields and a view of Blencathra Fell. Great for families, walkers, climbers, mountain bikers, paddlers or for those just needing a quiet place to relax. It is a much loved home and would be suitable for families, individuals or couples.
The house has a large living area with two living rooms, one more snug with a wood burner and the second light and airy with views to the hills. This second room with TV can be used as a forth bedroom. There is a breakfast bar in the open plan kitchen and first lounge and a dining table which can be extended to seat 6-8 in the dining room. Upstairs a new bathroom with double bath. One double bedroom with king size bed, second room has two cabin beds, ideal for adventurous little ones. Third single bedroom. The kitchen has a fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, slo-cooker, breadmaker, waffle maker and is fully equipped. The garage has a dryer and big chest freezer. A family home with many board games for all ages, books/maps and local guide books. The back garden has garden chairs, a slide and small trampoline, surrounded by fields and usually sheep! The front garden is not enclosed but is situated on a no through road which is very quiet, also surrounded by fields. You can walk to the village pub in 7 minutes, across a path through fields.
Beautiful quiet village which is lovely to walk around. Only minutes from the A66 towards Keswick (9 miles) and Penrith (7 miles). You can drive to Lake Ullswater within 10 minutes and Derwentwater in 20 minutes. Blencathra Fell by car 10 minutes away. Other smaller but beautiful hills closer.
  • Lovely house in great location, easy access to Lake District and buses. Definitely recommend.

    Rachel2017-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Six of us (4 adults and 2 young children) have just returned from our stay in Penruddock and what a great time we had. The house location is ideal, 10 minutes from Penrith and all its amenities but also 15 minutes from Keswick in the heart of the Lake District. We were made to feel welcome from the start with a gift basket as well as some other provisions that were left for us to use. The home instructions were also useful and simple to follow. The open plan kitchen/living area was very spacious and a great place to socialise in. The kitchen is very well resourced in terms of equipment which is good if you don't mind cooking while away. The wood burner really makes the place snug at night. The bedrooms were made up almost like a hotel with towels and the two bathrooms also helped to accommodate so many people. For a walker like myself, the position of the house makes exploration of the Northern and Western fells really easy, with only short drives to some of the country's high points. However, we also enjoyed walking around the village and surroundings itself with the children. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend 7 Station Road to any family looking for a comfortable and convenient place to explore the lakes. In the words of the terminator, "I'll be back"!

  • A beautiful home in a beautiful location. The hosts are extremely helpful with any problems you may have, however we experienced none, everything was comprehensively prepared for and the location is perfect for those wanting to drive around the lake district.

1602 listed converted barn (to the left of the main house in the photo) in the small village of Threlkeld with 2 pubs, a coffee shop and surrounded by mountains. Very easy access by public transport and 4.5 mile to the picturesque town of Keswick. The Barn has character and charm with stone walls, oak beams in all rooms, and hand-crafted furniture. The situation of the Barn is ideal for exploring the Lake District and there are many beautiful walks to be done straight from the house.
The Barn was originally built for the Church and is attached to our main house. The dining kitchen and shower room/toilet are on the ground floor. The 2 bedrooms are upstairs. The double bedroom has a large roof window with a magnificent view of Blencathra and the twin bedroom has a low window and a sloping ceiling so is better suited for children (although adults do use it). The large lounge with maple floor and rug is also upstairs and has a big roof window with mountain view. We provide detailed information about the area, books, games and DVD player. Wi-Fi is available in the coffee shop in the village (5mns walk).
  • This comfortable and cosy converted barn is ideal for a family up to 4 people. The hosts are most welcoming and helpful. The scenic and unique location invites to explore the surrounding fells and lakes. Keswick is only a short drive away to do any shopping if needed. There are cosy pubs just down the road from the barn. We had a clear night so we could see the stars from our bed through the window. Beautiful also in winter!

  • Laurence was the perfect host, she allowed us to arrive earlier than planned and was very friendly throughout. She gave an informative tour of the property and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The location is brilliant, a short drive into the heart of the Lake District with stunning views all around! The property was characteristic and very well heated throughout our winter stay!

  • Laurence and John were wonderful hosts. Communication was extremely helpful and timely throughout. The accommodation has a wonderful rustic feel and is spotlessly clean. It’s well furnished with a well equipped kitchen and beautiful surroundings in a very attractive village which is centrally place for many of the Lake District’s best attractions. It’s particularly well placed for walking in the Northern Lakes. The hosts are enthusiastic walkers and are more than happy to give advice on local routes. We really enjoyed our stay. I would highly recommend it to anybody else who wanted to explore the Northern Lakes from convenient and attractive accommodation. Very many thanks. Richard

  • Lovely, cosy old cottage with loads of character, in a pretty village, a perfect spot for exploring the most beautiful part of the Lake District. Cottage has everything you need and felt very homely. Laurence and John are really friendly and helped whenever needed, and also very respectful. We all really enjoyed meeting them both and loved all the wooden things John has made for the cottage.

    Aruna2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • A charming barn conversion in a charming quiet village with a great pub. Close to some of the best hill walks.

    Elizabeth2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this cottage. It's in a great location, easy to get to and within easy reach of Keswick, Derwent Water and Ullswater. Lovely views and a great base from which to climb Blencathra with the path starting opposite the cottage. There are also several wet day attractions in and around Keswick if needed. Our 8 and 10 year olds enjoyed the jigsaws, games and stencils. The cottage is lovely and warm, nicely decorated, very clean and the lounge is very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped enabling us to cook for ourselves throughout the week. Laurence took time to welcome us and show us round the cottage. They live next door and checked with us the next day to ensure everything was ok. John suggested some local walks. We particularly enjoyed a walk along the river to Scales farm and back along the lower edge of the fell. We hope to return as there is area we would like to explore.

    Kevin2017-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Laurence and John were so hospitable and helpful. The house was lovely and perfectly appointed. The location is close to Keswick and wonderful hikes right from your doorstep.

    Charlie2016-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a warm welcome in spite of arriving over an hour later than anticipated. The local pub (the Horse and Farrier) was similarly hospitable for dinner in spite of our 21:00 entry. The Barn is situated half way between the Pub and Threlkeld’s Village Hall Coffee Shop, where Cumbrian hospitality was also not in short supply. We had a quick and thorough briefing and were then left to our own devices. There was no need for us to ask for anything further as it seemed that Laurence had been letting the Barn for a number of years resulting in much attention to detail. We enjoyed our privacy in a wonderful setting. We stayed warm in spite of strong winds and occasional frost at night as did our pooch. We would be only too happy to stay again if Laurence would have us!!

  • Really lovely little cottage in the north of Lake District. Hosts were very welcoming and there was everything there that we could need.

  • We stayed in Low Garth Cottage for a few nights in October. We spent our days walking up mountains and our evenings sipping red wine and casseroling meats from the very near farm shop. The cottage has a lovely living room and sun room, but we spent most of our time by the coal fire. The cottage is in a perfect location: it feels remote, you're within striking distance of the highest peaks, but it's easy to find and drive to. Annie and Pete were fab and very helpful. The kitchen is very well equipped and even comes with a small le Creuset for those winter stews. We were very happy indeed and can't wait for our next trip to the Lakes.

  • We were greeted on arrival and immediately made to feel welcome. We were given the low down on the cottage and area. The cottage is in a beautiful setting and is easy to find. Everything you need for your stay is there, it's a real cosy home from home.

  • My partner and I took our baby for his first holiday and we had a wonderful time. The cottage felt like home from home and had everything we needed. The location is perfect for exploring the lakes. The local pub, Herdwick Inn is only a 5 minute walk away and is cosy and homely with a roaring fire and delicious food. We were lucky enough to have snow and experience the Christmas card views. We hope to come back in the summer and make use of the beautiful garden. Highly recommended!

    Michelle2016-11-11T00:00:00Z

A cosy cottage with beams and an open fire set in quiet farmland with great views. Wonderful access to the fells and the lakes. Half way between Keswick and Penrith, Ullswater is only three miles away. We currently let it for three nights or more.
The Cottage was originally a bank barn and has a large sitting room with open fire, shower room and kitchen downstairs and a large bedroom with kingsize bed upstairs with extensive views over the countryside.
The cottage is in quiet countryside with some fantastic views. We are surrounded by countryside but are close to the fells and lakes. The A66 provides fast access to Keswick and Penrith and the Motorway. We are well placed for pubs and places to eat.

Motherby House is an 18th century grade II traditional farmhouse, the house has lost none of its original charm. Hooks embedded in oak beams show where bacon was once cured and log fires add to the warm homely atmosphere. Families are always welcome. Unwind and relax in our oak beamed living room with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee and a selection of home made cakes. There is off road parking and secure storage for cycles. The hamlet of Motherby, is positioned between Penrith and Keswick.
A traditional former lakeland farm house
Motherby is a small quiet village surrounded by open fields. Motherby has a scenic backdrop of both the Lake District fells and the Pennines. The national park boundary runs at the end of the village. We have pubs near to us that all serve good food and cask ales. The Coast to Coast cycle route runs through Motherby. The next village of Greystoke has village shop & post office a pub and in summer a open air heated swimming pool and a cycle cafe.
  • We found Jacquie's cottage just at sunset. We were a little concerned about the remote location, but Jacquie's directions were spot on and our GPS took us right to it, no problem. The house itself is stunning, and has a fascinating history. The setting is beautiful and pastoral, with great views out of very window. This is a very family friendly house and suited our family of 5 very well between two bedrooms, and bathroom and a shower room. Both Jaquie and David were easy to talk to and gave us a wealth of information about the Lakes District and the surrounding area. She set a lovely table for breakfast in the morning and even took particular care to make sure that there were gluten-free items for my wife and daughter. Even thought it was just for one night, it was a memorable experience and we hope to return some day!

  • Beech house farm is a lovey house in a beautiful village and Jill is a great host. She very kindly booked us a table at the excellent local pub (a three minute walk away) for supper and produced what has to be one of Britain's best-cooked breakfasts. We felt welcome, comfortable and thoroughly refreshed after a good night's sleep on comfy beds. The location is also superb -- the village is lovely and we could see lots of possibilities for walking/cycling weekends which would involve, hopefully, another stay at Beech house

  • Our family (myself, my husband and my sister, her husband and two children) had a really lovely stay at Beech House. From the moment we arrived to the point we had to leave we were made to feel very welcome and at home. The house was beautiful and the rooms large, clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty, plentiful and provided in a relaxing dining room which we also used as a sitting room in the evening. A big thank you to Jill and Will for a great weekend in the Lake District, we'll be back!

  • What a lovely home. 6 girls came for a 'quite' Hendo and the service we all received was outstanding. We were late arriving, which Jill did not have an issue with. We were shown around the home, then shown around her beautiful garden grounds. We asked Jill if we could use the dinning room as a area to greet the hen and use some decorations, again Jill was very obliging. She stored all our food as alcohol in her personal fridge for us and was always asking if we had enough of everything. Jill was always around to help us with whatever we need and arranged transport Ect for us. Jill was very friendly and enjoyed sitting with us and chatting. The area in which the B&B was beautiful, the local pub was only a 2 min walk and did some amazing food. The are lots of beautiful things to see there. Would recommend this accommodation to anyone and if I'm ever in the area again I will be sure to stay here.

One small twin bedded room with full sizes single beds, bed side tables with lamps, black out blind and lined curtains. Crisp white Egyptian cotton bed linen on all beds and down duvets. Towels are also provided. Built in cupboard/wardrobe on the landing. The cottage sleeps 4 adults comfortably. Or perfect for a couple with one or two children. Or just a couple or 4 friends. Plenty of storage in a hanging cupboard in hall upstairs and large chest of drawers in double room. The bathroom is downstairs. A terrace with table and 4 chairs. You will be totally independent or if you wish we can advise on walks and the area. This is great walking country and you can choose to climb the famous fells or just meander around one of the beautiful lakes. My husband is very knowledgeable about the mountains and fells and can advise on walks, cycle rides and climbs. We have our own co-operative pub in the village, The Old Crown which serves it's famous Hesket Newmarket beers brewed in their own brewery behind the pub. They serve dinner (not Mondays!) and great Sunday lunch. Always pre book if you want dinner. We are also close to The Mill Inn in Mungrisedale which serve good food and very child friendly as well as The Boot and Shoe in Greystoke. And one of our new favourites The Horse & Farrier in Threkeld. This part of the world is foodie heaven. Great local produce is widely available and there are wonderful places to dine within a half an hours drive. Our nearest supermarkets are in Penrith, huge choice; Cranstons Food Hall for upmarket produce and fresh meats. Aldi, Morrisons, Booths and Sainsburys. Keswick for independent Co-op. And Booths an upmarket supermarket again selling local produce. The pub is within walking distance. A 15 min walk down the lane into the village. Or over the style and through the fields which takes about 25 minutes. Or a 2 min drive.
This is a very special part of the world and the views and mountains are second to none. If you have never been then you really must make time to explore the area. We can offer you a cosy and private getaway. Our lovely village with it's own pub and shop/post office and tea rooms is a 20 min walk through the fields or down the lane or 2 mins in the car. We are only 2 miles from Caldbeck, a slightly larger village with a shop, gift shop, hairdressers and church. We are a 25 min drive to Keswick over the beautiful Caldbeck Commons and right onto A66. Where you will find a plethora of outdoor clothing shops as well as tea rooms, a co-op supermarket. Booths supermarket. A small Boots, WH Smiths and the wonderful Cornish Pasty shop. Fishers outdoor shop will hire out walking boots for adults and children. Best boot fitters in the area. We are a 20 min drive to Penrith for all your grocery needs. Cranstons is an upmarket Delhi selling wonderful local produce & great meat. Also an Aldi, a large Morrison's (cheapest petrol). Booths and a large New Sainsburys. Good independent shops, a small cinema, good deli. Also the Lakes Spa Hotel. A fabulous spa where you can book for a massage, facials, swim etc.
  • What a gorgeous little cottage! We stayed for two nights with our 10mth old boy and had a great stay. The cottage is amazing and feels just like home. Sophie had bought us some bread/eggs for breakfast and the cupboards where very well stocked for our stay. Would definitely recommend if your looking for somewhere to stay in the Lake District.

  • Had a lovely time at the cottage barn. Easy to get to and Jeremy and Sophie were extremely accommodating and hospitable. Nice to get away from the city and have some time to relax. Would definitely recommend and go back!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay at The Cottage Barn. The cottage is beautifully decorated, spotless, and so comfy! The location is calm, and the surrounding area picturesque. Many thanks to our attentive hostess, Sophie.

  • Gorgeous cottage in lovely quiet area of the Lakes. Away from the hustle & bustle but within easy reach of all major sites. Totally private and not overlooked with a lovely little patio to sit out on. Tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. Well equipped with everything you could need. Sophie & Jeremy are excellent welcoming hosts and we hope to return in the near future.

  • A pretty cottage, very comfortable with everything we needed. It is beautifully located and made for the perfect base to go exploring in the stunning Lake District. Sophie and Jeremy are brilliant hosts, providing us with all the local knowledge and the best spots to visit. If we ever needed anything extra they were always on hand to help. We had a lovely time here and wish to visit again in the future.

    Helen2017-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sophie and Jeremy were absolutely lovely hosts. The cottage was immaculate and well equipped, as well as cosy and welcoming. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get to see plenty of the Lake District as it is within easy distance of most of it! Would definately recommend.

  • I just managed to delete my first attempt at a review, but hopefully this rewrite will still come across as fresh and enthusiastic! Because it was such a brilliant stay for us. I honestly think it is the most relaxing and tranquil place I've ever had the pleasure to stay at (in?). And with such a warm and friendly atmosphere - the cottage, you the hosts, the countryside around us, and the village too. And it's beautiful. And there's so much to do. And Sophie and Jeremy are two of the finest and most inspiring individuals you'll meet. We will definitely be back asap, and want to attempt some more challenging treks with our little one in tow. There's so much more to do (and local ale to consume... And perfect sleep to enjoy). Thank you for thinking of everything. Love from Nadia, Simon and Rose x

  • We stayed at the cottage barn for two nights over New Year's Eve/New Years day with some friends. We loved our stay, the communication from our hosts Jeremy and Sophie was excellent, and we found the cottage easy to find from the directions we were given. The accommodation was lovely and spotlessly clean with everything you could want, from toiletries in the bathroom to condiments in the kitchen and even a bottle of wine in the fridge waiting for us when we arrived! There was also bread, butter, eggs, milk, cereals etc, which was lovely. We were also allowed to bring our dog for no extra cost. Beds were nice and comfy and the cottage was well heated. Jeremy also gave us a lift down to the local pub on New Year's Eve, which was much appreciated! We throughly enjoyed our stay and we will try and come again during the summer and get some walking done and sample some more ales :) thanks for the lovely relaxing stay

  • We had a very enjoyable stay at Wendy's house. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. We received a very warm welcome and delicious breakfast. The location is brilliant, local pub and shops in short walking distance and only a few minutes by car to the lakes. Also very pleased to use the off-road parking and the surprise of our own private garden! Wendy and her husband were always very friendly and helpful. Thank You :)

  • Wendy was the perfect host! Her responses were quick to my messages, she was incredibly helpful, and her home was stunning. Absolutely immaculate! The room was very comfortable too and she provided us with a great breakfast. She even booked a meal for us at the local pub (the The Boot and Shoe - I'd highly recommend it!) and helped us with transportation around the area. Can't recommend a stay here highly enough! We will be back.

    jennifer2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy was very welcoming and she made us a fantastic breakfast. The B&B was close to the Lakes, so was a great location to make a quick excursion for a walk up Helvellyn. The cottage is full of ceramic works made by her children which are fantastic. She also took the time to book us a meal at the local pub in Greystoke, which was a friendly pub with lovely staff. She was quite happy with three muddy lads walking around in hiking gear in her nice home!

  • This place was truly magical. The scenery was stunning and sharp edge itself was a delight. Plenty of space for 2 people and a baby, nicely furnished with everything you'll need and spotlessly clean! We enjoyed dining alfresco on one of the tables in the grounds surrounded by hills. Our toddler loved meeting Tia - a really mild mannered dog. She was a delight. We tried out a couple of local pubs and can recommend the Mill Inn just up the road in Mungrisdale. The staff were so friendly, is in a lovely seeing by a brook and the food was really good. The owners were very friendly and great communication throughout. We hope we can come again some time!

Quiet cottage with wood burning stove and beams. Cosy and welcoming, six miles from the M6 and the west coast mainline. Great access to the fells, lakes andpubs. We offer full weeks in the summer and shorter breaks of three nights or more out of season. We have a minimum charge of £200.
A converted stable in an ancient Cumbrian long-house with sitting-room with stove, kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, hob and oven, bath/shower room, king-size bed in the bedroom, great views, large parking space, access to walks and the country side. Suitable for two. Wifi, TV and Sky.
Low Todrigg is surrounded by fields. You might meet Willy the farmer, who is very cheery, but apart from that it's all red squirrels and buzzards.
  • The stable at Low Todrigg is the perfect spot for a weekend away in the Lake District. Richard was a great host. We would absolutely recommend to anyone!

  • Lovely cottage and location.

    Helen2016-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in the Lake District staying at Low Todrigg. The accommodation was excellent - clean, spacious, warm and with the most comfortable bed. The views are beautiful and it is a very convenient location for lovely local walks, great pubs and easy access to the rest of the Lake District. Thoroughly recommended.

    Lesley2017-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a truly wonderful time. The cottage was perfectly sized for two people with a fully equipped kitchen, wood fire which was a lot of fun to use and a very comfortable bed. The location was perfect for us in that we wanted a hideaway retreat but it was still only a 10 minute drive to Penrith or 20 minutes to Keswick. We climbed Blencathra, a stunning hiking spot which again was very close to the cottage and Richard and his wife were very helpful with giving us advice regarding hiking spots, places to eat and any other enquiries with the cottage. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing break.

    Edward2015-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Stable was a wonderful place to stay. It was cosy and tastefully decorated. We loved the wood burner. Richard was very accommodating and provided everything we needed. The farm was lovely and quiet and the stars amazing! I'd definitely recommend it as a place to stay.

    Katy2016-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Back at home and sitting down with a cup of tea to write this review, I still wish I could sit in the Stable's kitchen or living room and admire the view over the fells. Jo and Richard made us feel welcome right from the start, they were relaxed and helpful and told us all we needed to know about the cottage and the surrounding area. Their place is secluded and offers a wonderful and quiet escape from all the hustle and bustle - including this directly around the lakes, which are nevertheless just a very short ride away, should you wish for some entertainment. We had peaceful morning walks with our collie from the doorstep (followed by a lost herdwick sheep to our front door not once, but twice) and some wonderful hikes up the fells, delivering breathtaking views and some very tired two and four legged cottage inhabitants, happily resting in front of the fire. The fabulous kitchen offered all we needed to cook a hearty dinner, but the Boot and Shoe in nearby Greystoke, recommended by Richard, tempted us more than just one evening with delicious food and a friendly crowd to chat with. This is truly a place that's hard to leave and I'm sure we will come back and visit again.

    Gabi2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Stable is a lovely getaway and excellent base for walking in the Lakes, e.g. around Ullswater and Borrowdale. The cottage itself had everything we needed for self-catering although good pubs for eating are only a short drive away. I'd highly recommend it especially to those who want to be right in the countryside, but also not be too far away from shops/pubs/attractions. Thanks to Richard and Jo for a superb stay in a beautiful part of the country.

    Judith2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our time at Low Todrigg! The stable has all the modern comforts you would want without taking away from the character of the place! The bed is the most comfortable bed we have ever stayed in and the view is stunning. Richard and Jo were very welcoming and made us feel at home . We have been to the Lake District many times before, and found it a great location to go and explore from. We would highly recommend Low Todrigg to a couple who are looking for a quiet holiday in the Lake District. We will most certainly want to come back!! Thank you so much for having us, the perfect place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary!

I also have another double room advertised on Air B&B too if your date is already booked just look for my other add.
  • Odette's place is magical and just as described. It has history, atmosphere and character. A perfect base to spend time exploring the lakes, and retreat to an open fire and a friendly host! Being greeted by dogs, kittens, chickens, ducks and horses is a great bonus for animal lovers! Thanks again Odette for a lovely holiday.

  • An absolutely incredible building to stay in. Beautiful and a little ramshackle as described, full of character and warmth. Odette really goes the extra mile to welcome her guests and add a personal touch - introduced us to the animals, breakfast of freshly laid eggs, shared a bottle of wine, great local knowledge/food recommendations. Plenty of space in the room for us, our baby daughter and all our stuff! Nice and warm - Odette put the heater and electric blanket on for us ready for when we got in from our meal. Excellent value for money, particularly for the area. Would definitely stay again (hopefully very soon!).

    Eliza2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • A stay with Odette is certainly a unique experience. Her home is full of character and has a lovely atmosphere. Take a relaxed but considerate attitude with you and all will be well. Odette will bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy your stay. Read her description of the property before you book and be aware that the building is several hundred years old. Thanks Odette x

    Anthony 2017-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The place was great, we loved the fact the building was over 600 years old and we woke up looking out across a sheep filled field. Odette was lovely and went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and even provided us a lift to and from a wedding we were attending.

  • Really enjoyed our stay at David's place. I was seeking a secluded country escape from London and that's exactly what I got. Nestled in a beautiful part of the Lake District and far away from the hustle and bustle with only the sound of lambs and birds; perfect! The cottage itself is comfortable and has everything you need, including quite new amenities, crockery etc. in the kitchen. I would very happily stay here again as it's a beautiful spot and easy to get to all areas of the Lake District. Only slight issue we had is that the hot water started to run out towards the end of our trip, however it did fill back up quite quickly as we were out during the day so it was fine in the end. Also, the shower is in the bedroom which made us laugh! Thanks for a great Easter weekend!

  • Stephanie and her family are amazing. I stayed here so that I could do a trip to the falls and one of the other north lakes, plus Hadrian's Wall. For these locations it was ideal. The view is stunning, but rather remote. That being said, Keswick is only 25 minutes away and is a lively town with lots to do. We were made to feel fully welcome and as one of the few places I could find that was reasonably priced and allowed dogs, we couldn't have been happier!

  • I highly recommend staying at this b&b. Steph & Dean made every effort to make sure I had all my needs catered for! Superb setting within national park and just a stones throw away from a good pub.

  • Really enjoyed my stay at Netherdene guest house. Saw Dean mainly who was great from a welcoming cup of tea on arrival. sorting breakfast at around 7:30 each morning, making good recommendations for evening dining, drying out walking boots and jackets and even sorting out a flask of tea for my days in the hills. I was staying in Room 4, a single room with en-suite comprised of shower cubicle, toilet and wash basin, I'm 6'2" and found it fine if a little on the small side but it was great to have the facility in the room. The room itself is fine for a single person with plenty of room for bags etc, tea and coffee making facilities and wall mounted flat screen freeview tv. I eat out at both The Sportsman Inn about a mile away and The White Horse Inn at Scales, 3 miles away on Deam's recommendation and both were good. In a good location for Ullswater, Thirlmere, Helvellyn, Skiddaw, Blencathra and Keswick. I enjoyed my stay and will probably return for my next trip to the Lakes

  • Good location for me, just off the A66 with easy access to Keswick one way or M6 the other. They also serve a good breakfast, with a friendly chef!

Near Howe is amazing, a perfect tranquil retreat. The pictures and description doesn't do it any justice! Was a perfect location for site seeing in the Lake District and would highly recommend
