One of the more unique places we’ve stayed. We loved this beautiful, old ryokan, it really added to our time in Kyoto. Great maps and info about the neighborhood. It’s not in the center of things, but we figured out the bus and subway and had an easy time getting around. Especially loved the coffee shop downstairs. The whole building is beautiful.

This place is very special and very big. Best part is everyone is amazing and there is a cafe and bar downstairs where everyone is so kind. A very special unique stay. And there is a tuned piano for the musicians.

We spent a delightful 2 days in Kyoto at Seanacy and Kojiro's wonderful ryokan. They were great hosts and super accommodating. I love staying in places that have a rich history and this exceeded my expectations. The sleeping rooms and updated 100 year old lounge space were so cool and provided the perfect backdrop to our visit to Kyoto. I especially enjoyed sipping on a nice Nikka whiskey downstairs at the whiskey bar/cafe. Such a chill, awesome place. I'd love to return the next opportunity I get.

This machiya is in a fantastic location, in a charming part of Kyoto! It is also only a 10 minute bus ride to Kyoto station and a close walk to Gion, Kiyamizu-dera temple, and Ponto-cho. We met with Andrea upon arrival- he provided us with extremely helpful tips on how to plan out our Kyoto stay. If this is your first visit to Kyoto, I encourage guests to meet with the hosts. We appreciated having access to laundry as well. As the listing notes, it is perfect size for two guests.

Amazing stay: Hospitality was particularly outstanding. The host (Andrea) was very helpful in the check in and gave us tips and recommandations for visiting the city and even side trips, he was very knowledgeable about everything. He also showed us around and explained all the appliances (which can be a life saver if you’re not used to Japanese appliances). The appartement in itself looks even better than in the photos on airbnb, and is spotless. All necessary bathroom amenities and snacks / food seasoning are available, as well as tea, coffee etc. Location is very practical, especially when combined with the recommended restaurants / bars that Andrea will tell you about. (Tried the gyoza place and the Escamoteur bar, both great)

This is a really cute traditional apartment and with a bit of organisation was perfect for us four - 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Andrea meeting us at the start set us off really well, and it was kind of them to allow a late checkout- have us time for a lovely tea ceremony 😊

This place is an absolute gem. Super clean and easy to access. Great location right next to all the trains you could possible need. Great insta-tea and insta-coffee waiting for you when you check in. I would highly recommend this place.

We had a great stay and Takahiro was extremely helpful, offering help with a water issue and even offering an alternate room. A bit of street noise at night but altogether very nice apartment with many thoughtful touches. Would recommend!

Our stay at Minas apartment was just perfect for the amount of time we had in Kyoto. It had everything you need when visiting a new city, very close to public transport which was most important for us as we used Kyoto for a main base while also exploring other cities near by by rail. I would definitely recommend this place if you are after a clean, stress free stay in Kyoto. Thank you again!

At first, the room for this Chinese character was very special. The room was near Kyoto Station, which was very convenient. There is a supermarket not far downstairs that only accepts cash. It should be a place for locals to buy vegetables. The price is cheaper than Osaka, not 24 hours. There are many izakayas around, and the TV tower is also nearby, which is particularly good. The host is also very nice, and can respond to questions in a timely manner. Super great!

We really enjoyed our time spent in Kyoto, much in part to being able to stay at Mina’s place. It is very close to Kyoto station and has all the amenities we needed. The heated bathroom and goodies provided were especially nice after a long day out. We recommend Mina’s place to everyone and hope to come back again!

A nice place located at a very convenient four-minute walk from Kyoto station as well as the Kyoto Tower that’s also accompanied by multiple convenience stores within walking distance. Check-in process was nice and easy and the room was very clean and cosy! Would recommend to anyone that’s thinking of booking :)

Very good location, within 5 minutes walk to everything - Kyoto Train Station, Bus Station, Kyoto Tower, Isetan and a lot more. There is an elevator in the building so life is easier. The room is a little bit small but comfortable enough for us to stay for one week. There is a small kitchen utility but who will use it while there are plenty of good restaurants and food stalls around.

Nice Japanese style hostel, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Not too far from Kyoto station and we got well everywhere from there (various bus stations about 2 - 5 minutes away on foot).

Old style hotel can be said an exceptional stay in Kyoto! Worth a try! But in winter, using shared bathroom and toilet can be a bit uncomfortable(freezing cold at night...)

The reception staff were very kind. There is a bus stop near the place where you live. It is convenient to take buses to major attractions in Kyoto. The overall feel of living was good.

This is my 2nd time staying at Royce's place. It's always awesome there. Clean and well equip. Quite spacious. Hanazono is a nice little place that I adore. I'll always try to stop by. It's just a quick 10 min ride or so to Kyoto Station.

Royce’s place was so conveniently located, spacious and clean. I’d highly recommend staying here! It’s a short 4min walk (flat, no hills) from Hanazono station with no stairs for entry, so super easy access when carrying/wheeling luggage. The bamboo forest is a 20min train ride (or short bike ride) away. And Nishiki Market is a 30min train ride away. So easy! As for the place, there’s cooking facilities, a microwave and a washing machine. The two double beds were excellent. If you’re travelling as two couples, Royce’s place had a perfect setup to accomodate this. The heating was cosy. There was a couch in the living space. It was so comfortable and not cramped. The only downside I can think of is paying accommodation tax (but that is standard across Kyoto) and it was only ¥1600 at the time we stayed. Riding the bikes was also super fun and we’re super grateful Royce’s place came with 4 of them! We didn’t have to rent any. :) Thank you Royce for letting us stay! We’d highly recommend this place to other travellers and we’d definitely stay here again. There’s also a 7/11 down the road and it’s so well located near a station.

We had a forgettable trip in Kyoto, and the accommodation of Royce was one of the greats. It is really nice and cozy, clean and tidy. Facilities and amenities are completed. Great location in a residential block in the west of the Kyoto city. 3mins walk from the Hanazono station where you could get to the Kyoto station by 15mins train ride. And Royce was nice and helpful. Always giving us on time reply when we need help. I would absolutely recommend this place to my friends who are going to travel Kyoto.

The first time I experienced Kyoto's homestay, I was attracted by the good reviews, and I was even more convinced after the actual stay. This is a great choice. The hosts were very enthusiastic, and there was no problem in communicating in English. They also warmly prepared gifts for us. Thank you very much! The location of the house is very convenient. It is close to the subway station and there are many supermarkets. If you want to play Kyoto Kiyomizu Temple and Inari Taisha, it is not far. I like the layout of the house, and the quilt and ns win my heart. Next time I come to Kyoto, I will still choose this one!

Traditional Japanese-style homestay is a perfect experience. Room: Very clean and spacious, the surroundings are very quiet. Traditional Japanese tatami, partitions and furniture. The host also provided Japanese-style pajamas. We took many photos with our own kimono. Very nice interior. The kitchen and bathroom appliances are very complete, as well as a full cup of various tableware and tea sets. There are toys and game consoles. Transportation: There are bus stations, subway stations, convenience stores, and living supermarkets within 10 minutes. I walked out of Kyoto Station and walked here for 30 minutes. Surroundings: Matsuya set meals, a fast-food restaurant, cheap. There is a supermarket in the intersection. The meat, vegetables and Japanese soup base we bought here, the hotpot we eat, and the hotpot in the bed and breakfast is shabu-shabu. Others: Children are charged separately, which is about 2500 yen per day. The introduction is written in Japanese. We went at the end of January and it was quite warm after turning on the air conditioner in the room.

The whole house has convenient transportation, and it takes five minutes to walk after getting off the subway. There are supermarkets, convenience stores, and izakayas at the door. The whole house has Japanese-style features, and the host is hospitable! Bring a 2-year-old child and a lot of toys. Overall great!

Can experience the accommodation environment of locals in Kyoto very well. And very clean. Still good value for money. The host also prepared toys and sweets for the children. Personally I think the traffic is quite convenient.

We have just had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful, traditional Japanese house. From the moment we were greeted by Yukie at the train station to the moment we left (having shared a beautiful meal with the owners of the guest house the previous night) we were made to feel so very welcome and special. The house is spotlessly clean with fantastic amenities (including a very useful clothes dryer in winter!) and the most comfortable futons and beautiful warm quilts. It just felt like home (with the added bonus of a Super Nintendo!) and our children often asked for a “home day” despite the abundant activities and beautiful sights to be seen around Kyoto (many within walking distance from the guesthouse). The location is incredibly quiet and we felt safe at all times. Thank you to Yukie, Daisuke and his lovely mother for making us feel so welcome in what was my first time visiting Japan. We truly feel so lucky to have had the experience of staying in their beautiful home and city.

It's a very compact place which is a whole new experience for us. It would've been amazing that the place is reserved when the sakura starts to bloom as you open the balcony, but sadly, we came at the wrong time. There is a kotatsu in the living room which not a lot of hosts prepares, I believe. The host also offers a lot of refreshments.

It is highly recommended if you want to stay without spending money on a trip to Kyoto with some friends. It is close to Kamogawa, Shijo and Kawaramachi, and it is within walking distance. The host was very courteous and had a quick check-in. They also served sweets and felt hospitality. Very comfortable stay. Thank you very much.

I’ve stayed at a lot of Airbnbs over the years (have been a user for 4+ years) and have stayed in various accommodations on my own account or those of friends in over a dozen countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and The Americas. The experience I had at the Sakura River Inn was by far the best of any Airbnb thus far. The space itself is wonderful and the location is super convenient (near restaurants, bus stops, metro, bike rentals, grocery stores, shopping, tourist sites, etc.). That said, what makes this Airbnb truly stand out is the hosts. When we arrived, Andrea was waiting for us in the unit and he took the time to personally give us a tour of the space, explaining how everything worked. Moreover, he had prepared multiple maps as well as a guide book that included things like his recommended restaurants, creative ideas for daily itineraries, and even walked us through the appropriate transit options to get us from one place to another. And if that superb service somehow wasn’t enough, he was also super responsive over chat after he had left. My father was curious about a good place to buy some local tea and so we thought to ask Andrea and not only did he respond promptly, but he provided three different options (at different price points and distances), laid out the pros and cons, and provided directions to each. This was the best of Airbnb and reminded me of why I fell in love with the platform in the first place. Solid 11/10. We had initially planned to stay only 3 nights and Andrea’s fantastic input resulted in us extending our stay by an additional 2 nights (which ended up being our favourite in Kyoto). I genuinely would not stay anywhere else.

This traditional-style Japanese apartment is a great way to experience Kyoto! We really enjoyed our stay. Andrea met us at the apartment for checkin and gave us the most comprehensive set of local recommendations that I have ever had from an Airbnb host. The apartment has so many thoughtful amenities and is in a nice part of town where you can walk to lots of restaurants and easily bus or walk to tourist attractions. We ended up wanting to extend our stay while we were in town which the hosts took care of changing with quick response and no issues. Highly recommend a stay here if you are in Kyoto!

The apartment is absolutely satisfactory! Everything you need for a good stay, washing machine and dryer are also available free of charge. Good connection to traffic. Recommended without restrictions!

There was supermarket, drugstore, convenience store really near station, and there was no trouble. Kitchen utensils were also substantial. There were also seasonings, so I was happy! I think it was very easy to spend because of the cleanliness!

Yukiko’s place had a big map of popular attractions around the area, which made it easier to plan out our day. in suite washer and dryer, kitchenette and everything else was labeled in english, making things very easy to use. overall very happy about our stay. would definitely recommend to family and friends!

The place was great, very spacious and full of amenities. We loved the bikes and used them several days, and biked all the way to Kiyomizu-Dera and back. A great way to visit the Higashiyama area. The apartment is very close to the subway, maybe 30 meters. However it is in a less animated part of town so we went back to downtown Kyoto for dinner most nights. All in all I would stay there again, the proximity to the subway line and therefore Kyoto station was very convenient, the bed was super comfortable and the place sparkling clean!

If you are wanting a clean place to stay, close to the Metro and easy to travel around Kyoto, then this would be ideal for you. 2 minutes walk from the metro. The bikes are super handy to move about the city and save you a 1000 yen a day, if you were renting them from somewhere else. Communication with Yukiko was responsive and straight forward. The map of the city and the restaurant map were great. The place below does amazing food at great prices (good Sake too!). Convenience stores close to hand. All in all a great place to stop.

Superb residence in historic Kyoto close to public transport, hospitality and optimal comfort, possibility of cooking and tea / coffee offered were very significant. If I were to return to Kyoto it would be here.

I thought it was a dormitory because of the price, it was a private room ~ (laughs) An old private house standing in a residential area, opening the door gives plenty of the atmosphere of a townhouse. There is also a courtyard, and there is a nice break next time you want to stay here.

Too foolish at night, I do n’t know the road, and I still have to see the host to pick it up before I find accommodation. It ’s too late. I ’m so troublesome. The room is warm and the environment is very good. The sound insulation is only a little bit bad, it is quite quiet and does not affect sleep. It's clean, quiet, and convenient. There is a bus stop in five or six minutes, and there are convenience stores around, which is very convenient. I am in a hurry every day. There is no uniqueness here. I like it here and will definitely give it to my friends.

The ancient architecture is my favorite. Thank you for your concern the night before your stay. Check-in went smoothly, there are many shops around the dormitory worth visiting, but many of them did not open on New Year's Day holiday.

It is a picture-perfect hotel. The air-conditioning heating system was good, and bedding was clean, too. He showed us very kindly and showed careful attention. It was one day stay but it is one of the best choices of trip to Osaka :)

Although it is not in the city center, but the transportation is convenient, the residential area is opposite to the whole family. It is completely beyond our imagination of the picture. It is very big. The landlord is very nice and will respond promptly and satisfy the accommodation.

I really like this secluded little house. I arrived at the house late at night. The landlady’s grandmother seemed to have been waiting for us, and she left the lights. After seeing us, I told us about the nearby Raiders. It was a warm feeling. The landlord’s aunt is super good. We arrived a little late and specially went to find us by bicycle. The people are very kind. The only thing that is enthusiasm is that the place to stay is a little far from the Kyoto attractions.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kotomal's place! The house is really nice, and very well located with a lot of restaurant around, and supermarket. It was really easy to find with all the informations given before we arrive. We had a heartwarming welcome, Kotomal is very helpfull and ready to help you and give you many details about Kyoto. We would come back without any hesitations! Kyoto is such a nice place, you'll love it!

My family really enjoyed our stay! We received treatment that went above and beyond, including trips to and from Kyoto Station, advice on the best places to see, food to eat (the sushi conveyor place 2 doors down is excellent and very cheap). There's a pastry store nearby and the bus is a 2-4 minute walk. The host had 3 separate binders of information for our convenience. The bus drivers are very nice and everything was easy to navigate. It took about 20 minutes to get to Kyoto station and between 35-55 minutes to get to Arashiyama and Gion area using public transportation. The house is very old, but that was something we liked about it. It has a lot of character. There were beautiful touches, like the family kimonos upstairs that the host actually wore as a child, beautiful, traditional decorations, and a small, quaint garden in the back. My little brother is 6'5", my fiance is 6', and I am 5'10". The doorways were very short for us (about 5'8" tall), that being said, I was the only one who hit their head. Twice. The stairs are very steep, but there is a strong handrail. There is no bathroom upstairs, so that may pose a problem for some people. There are 2 double beds in one room and many futons for the other bedroom. There are not many outlets upstairs, but the host provided a power strip. The hosts provide bikes to use (our stay was so short, we didn't use them), a washer, detergent, 2 clothes drying racks, and many other kitchen amenities. Check in and out was a breeze and they are excellent at communicating with a translator app and easily made their instructions, advice, and questions clear. The neighborhood is quiet and was a relaxing place to stay.

The landlord is so nice! When I left Kyoto, I caught the Kyoto Marathon and many buses stopped. The host drove us to JR Kyoto Station! No fare yet. The road is very provocative and very interested in China hahaha. Would recommend to a friend! Moving!

The location of the house is very good. It is very close to Kinkakuji, a variety of gourmet shops in the drugstore and supermarket of the bus station. There are also several small shrines around it, especially the Tenjin Temple. They are all locals. Maternity was delivered smoothly. The Hirano Shrine across the road is particularly beautiful during the cherry blossom season and winter cherry blossoms and daffodils in winter. The house is well-equipped. The homeowner's introduction on the table is complete and detailed. It is colder to go to the house in winter, there is no air conditioning in the bathroom, and the bath is colder. The bedroom is on the second floor and the bathroom is on the first floor. Going to the toilet in the middle of the night will be a bit troublesome. The stairs are steep and narrow, which is not suitable for the elderly. It is recommended to sleep in a room without a bed. A room with a bed is noisy near the main road

There was a feeling of cleanliness and Kinkakuji was comfortable nearby.

Very cute traditional townhouse that’s been converted to a guesthouse! My room was on the second floor and the perfect size for one person. I was a little worried the futon wouldn’t be enough support as I sleep on my side but the combination of the futon and the tatami flooring meant I was very comfortable. Late at night the main areas get cold since they’re heated with oil heaters that turn off but my room was very cozy—there are additional electric heaters in the rooms. Since it is an older building sound does carry but all the guests were very respectful of one another and sound was not a problem while I was there. It’s also off the main roads which helps a lot. The staff were also very helpful with two of the problems I faced: first, my luggage got lost and had to be delivered to the guesthouse which was handled with no issue on my end. Second, I lost an item and they were able to contact the police and find a contact at one of the stations that spoke English so I could report the lost item. Overall, a nice place to stay!

Charming guesthouse that gives you a really authentic experience of living in a older japanese home. Stayed in a single room and it has enough space for everything. Breakfast is very filling and has everything you need to get your day started. The garden is beautiful and peaceful.

When we arrived, the small garden of Lei House was covered with red maple leaves. It was so beautiful that I ate breakfast every morning and waited in the house for a long time and looked at the yard in a daze. The single bed room for two people is completely suitable for space. It is also because the day is full, and you sleep very comfortably. The wood squeaking up and down the stairs will have a squeak, but it will not affect the rest. I couldn't hear the conversation next door. Breakfast is a decent bread drink and fruit, but the kitchen can use it by itself. Friends who want to toss can try it. In addition, Wall Crack recommends a barbecue restaurant at the intersection called Niu Jing. The beef tasted good, the waiters were polite and the value was high! The reception staff was very polite and simple English communication was okay. There are many exquisite temples and shrines and shops nearby to dig, and I want to live again next time I go to Kyoto!

If you want to know the real life and beauty of Kyoto, Ichiro is definitely the best choice here. 1. This room is exactly the same as the photo. It is very large, neat and clean. This house is a traditional Japanese-style house with a small courtyard, which is very beautiful. Mr. Ichiro turned on the heating air conditioner for me in advance, and recommended the gourmet food to me enthusiastically. Finally, he also took me to the subway station for easy walking. Thank you very much. I am very glad to be friends with Mr. Ichiro. 2. Convenient transportation, there are two bus stops at the entrance, and it is about 1 km walk from Karasuma Line. Although this house is far away from the hot spots, it requires a bus transfer, but the Koto-in Temple, about one kilometer away, is very beautiful, suitable for taking pictures, and there are very few tourists. It is also very close to Kinkakuji. (Ps please do n’t have expectations for Hanami Kojimizu Kiyomizu-dera, many people doubt your life) 3. The house is in a residential area. Living here will feel like living at home. The landlord is very attentive and gentle. It will give you the most practical suggested route, and it will turn on the lights every morning. It is too careful! The facilities are also very clean, and the design of the house is very typical of tatami, so be sure to come and stay. It feels like living in your own house, not only because of the design of the hostel, but the landlord would be very considerate like your family. This guesthouse is wonderful !! Cozy and quiet, and comfortable! Host Ichiro was friendly and kindly. Traditional Japanese style house make you more healing and memorable.

The guesthouse is only 30 min from the Kyoto station, you can choose between bus and a subway (bus stop is closer). The house is in Japanese style, clean and in my opinion very pretty too. My room was sufficiently spacious. Ichiro is an amazing host. Very gentle, he will help you if needed and he has excellent tips for places to visit around Kyoto. Highly recommended.

The Expo Team is fantastic and will go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and get what you need. They offer room cleaning which we passed on. They stayed past their usual hours to make sure we had a safe check-in and then drove us to the subway for our check-out because we had tons of luggage. It was a huge help. Otherwise, everything was very clean and we had most of the place to ourselves. The location is a bit difficult but workable. I would suggest renting bikes from a different service since theirs are particularly small and wonky. They will do the trick but it felt like you were working against yourself. Awesome stay nonetheless!

Sparkling clean, well equipped apartment in a great location. Yukiko’s place was perfect for my wife and I and the location right next to the subway meant that travelling around to various parts of Kyoto was very convenient and the apartment a lovely quiet haven at the end of long days of exploring. Quiet more residential area but plenty of great food around, supermarket only a few minutes walk away. If we come back to Kyoto we would stay here again without hesitation

Yukiko’s apartment was super comfortable, in an awesome location (our favourite part of Kyoto) and had great amenities. Yukiko was also very quick to respond to enquiries, especially in the case of a loud neighbour who was keeping us up one night - Yukiko immediately provided us a solution (even though we didn’t need it in the end). The apartment is very quiet considering it’s on a main road, and overall very comfortable. We’ll definitely come back here next time we’re in Kyoto.

Yukiko’s place is a 100/10 just to start off. The place was at a perfect spot to get to anywhere you needed to go and super duper clean. I would definitely recommend this spot for anyone going to Kyoto. Yukiko the host is super kind and helpful and responds quickly. Best Airbnb I’ve booked so far.

This place was the PERFECT place to stay in Kyoto. It is super clean, the staff were SO helpful, they gave great tips and we rented bikes for 500Y total for the time we were there. We rode our bikes all around Kyoto, which was a great way to see Kyoto. Even though the hostel is about a 20min bus trip from the station, it is really convenient to get to all the main sites and temples and nearby to cafes/restaurants/supermarkets. Would highly recommend staying here!!!

Excellent hospitality, clean, would stay again

The house is near Nijo, and there are bicycles in the residential area. It is very convenient for a small city like Kyoto. Basically, you do n’t need to buy a bus ticket anymore, but the sound insulation of the room is not very good. The children in the room have been watching cartoons and I didn't take a good rest. There are also supermarkets in the surrounding area where shopping is very convenient, there are common kitchens with tableware and basic spices, and eating around is also very convenient. The service staff is also very friendly and one day offered us a raincoat when it rained. In short, it is a very good choice, and will stay there next time.

Very pleasant stay experience, Japanese-style room was beautiful and clean. The facilities are complete, the bath is very comfortable, there are delicious izakayas and Japanese style houses nearby. What a lovely time we had at Jam Jar during our stay in Kyoto. Danny and the Jam Jar team have such wonderful hospitality and really made our experience. The room was clean, and very functional as most traditional style rooms in Japan. Direction were clearly communication and check in was a breeze. It was a treat to enjoy amazing coffee and breakfast at the cafe downstairs every morning while chatting it up with Danny and gather local tips and suggestions before heading off on our day. Highly recommend to stay here if you will be visiting!

I don’t know about the rest of the customers, but the 2 days’ stay at Danny’s place has injected something truly meaningful to my Japan journey, if not my life. Danny and his partner (Kaswe? So sorry for my spell) showed me the city, taught me Japanese culture, guided me to see a Geiko, poured me sake, sang in a local Japanese karaoke and even tried to match-make me a Japanese wife ;) I can see how much they love each other and their love also influenced me, a solo traveler to feel something special about behind the rich culture & history of Kyoto. I wish them best on their future plans and surely, I will revisit their Airbnb in the Sakura blossom season, with my perfect Japanese.

The room was tatami, it was clean and had a unique fragrance. Size can sleep two people. The sound insulation is not good. You can hear the voice next door. It is best to keep quiet at night. At both ends of the corridor are toilets and wash basins, which are public. Nearby there are direct buses to Kyoto Station, Kinkakuji Temple, and Nijo Castle. Convenience store restaurants are all around. The owner is an affable old grandfather, giving a very warm feeling. Great, highly recommended!

Japanese traffic is really a bit confusing. Grandpa keeps sending me messages asking where I've been, if I have found a car, etc. It's very thoughtful. In fact, Grandpa's position is particularly easy to find, but I have no clue when I first came to Japan. Very close to the station. When I walked into the alley, I saw the grandfather beckoning to me and gave me an introduction as soon as I entered the door. The grandfather was really kind and always smiling. There was a feeling of cleanliness and it was amazing!

The station wasn't close, but it was right from the bus stop and it was very convenient to move after arriving because I could use two bicycles for free. The response was very quick, so I was able to stay with confidence. There are nice cafes and rice shops nearby, and the town itself is more calm than the center and has a nice atmosphere. Room was very clean and easy to spend. Especially in the winter, the floor cools down a bit, so warm socks and slippers are safe.

My stay at Ivy was excellent. It was in a great location in a beautiful part of town, close to the Imperial Palace. Walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and cafes. I would definitely stay again. One note is that they do not provide a bath towel, so be sure to pick one up for cheap at the nearby Daiso market.

Exceeding my expectations, it is as clean and warm as what I see in the picture. It is only 5 minutes away from the bus stop "Ichihama ・ Harumi Shrine", next to Harumi Shrine! !! !! Because it is in the middle of Nijo Castle and the Imperial Palace (the location I chose), it is located in the middle of Kyoto, and it is very close to any attractions (except Inari Taisha). It is highly recommended that the landlord sister is very good in Chinese and has no language barrier.

Great place to be to visit Kyoto!

This is located in a quiet neighborhood not too far from the Imperial Palace, as well as Doshisha and Kyoto Universities. There are bikes that you can rent right at the entrance, and although there isn't an elevator, the stairs aren't too steep. Lodging itself is pretty simple, and although the building itself a little older, its amenities are as expected from the listing. Transport from here is actually easier than I thought: not only are the buses nearby, but the subway is just a short (10-minute) walk away. The host gave me a handbook of what to expect in the neighborhood, and I found that quite convenient. Speaking of convenience, there are stores around the corner, especially a Daiso where you'll be buying your towel since the host doesn't provide one. Overall, a good stay!

The whole guesthouse is quite well designed; enough large personal space, different zone with private bathroom for lady use; independent public area with kitchen; everywhere, sparkling clean and with thoughtful notes helping yourself. I believe Masa paid a lot of effort to build this area. Location is not near train station and typical sight spots, you have to use Bus, 230yan from/to Kyoto Station; it’s a nice and local residential district. Next time I would like to stay here for more days :)

Although it is a little distance from Tokyo station, the host was very friendly and the facilities were good. The location was close to the Golden Pavilion. The dragonfly was clean and cozy. The only thing I want to say is that you must remember your door password.

Really enjoyed our stay. Tats was very welcoming and explained everything to us when we checked in. The portable wifi was a lifesaver and the electric bicycles are fantastic to use and much nicer than normal ones.

Clean and tidy house. Electric bikes are great. We rode to Ohara, Arashiyama, Kibune and even the Golden Tibetan Temple. After the weather became cold in the next few days, I took the bus and subway to move.

We had the best time at Tats’ place. He picked us up at the station and we also could check in earlier as expected! The apartment was very clean and totally sufficient for two people. Excellent get-away experience, superb value and very comfortable place to stay. The living space and property are both very large. Lovely, secluded setting, lots of privacy. Expect rustic; not clean to the standard of a city apartment, but very clean for a rustic cabin. Large kitchen area, excellent BBQ by Japan standards, warm wooden stove. There is an adjacent building where owners (or workers?) stay, but it's far enough away that you can't hear anything going on inside. Loved everything, would definitely go back!

Before I went there, I was excited with a nice house with pet ok, Goemon bath, wood stove referring to your reviews, but I was surprised where it was more than expected. Above all, the owners care very much about the relationship, and the hospitality that we want our guests to enjoy and comfortably is very wonderful. It was too comfortable to go out, but I spent all day in the house. The surroundings of the house are natural and airy, and there are wild animals and fun. Very fun place. In a quiet place in the deep mountains of Kyoto, the Xanadu Garden under the snow. To use the stove, you need to burn the wood yourself (the landlord has prepared the wood). The Goroemon bath can be burned by yourself or you can use hot water directly. We tried to burn it ourselves. Although it took an hour, it was a rare experience. The space is comfortable, with winter flavors in winter, and barbecues in summer should also be nice.

The place might not be that convenient to go but if you have a car or rent a car, I recommend this place. I love the house. I had my dream staying in this kind of place having bbq at night. I love everything and I wish I had a house like this. It was too cold and not enough heater but it's ok I went through that night. I will recommend everybody stay here. I super love this house! Warm hospitality, the whole wooden house is permeated with scent of alder wood. It is also very safe to come from outside, and the equipment is very complete, just like at home. Will definitely go next time.

We stayed for 7 nights and had access to nearby onsens, supermarkets and food outlets. We rented a car and free parking was a bonus. Studio apartment was comfortable and had everything needed for a simple meal and groceries. Electric bikes also used for nearby trips. Botanical garden is a must visit besides the other local tourist kyoto sites.

The apartment was super clean and the host was super kind and picked us up from the train station, helped carry our luggage four flights of stairs, and took the time to throughly explain how to use the difference appliances and where everything was. Having ebikes available to use made getting around super easy and fun!

book this place!! Free pickup and drop off from train station, it was sparkling clean and spacious. Pocket WiFi and motorized bike made it easy to tour around Kyoto. Nearby bus is also an alternative. Close to minimarts, super market, parks and shrines. Had lots of amenities including washing machine and laundry detergent for washing clothes. Best of all, it’s very spacious unlike most Airbnb’s in Japan.

A perfect apartment for three, two people. We were brought back from the train station to the apartment with bikes available! Really beautiful, the location is perfect for pretty cafes and restaurants and bus stops everywhere, 15 minutes from the famous Kinkaku-ji! Value for money, I recommend more than one, Tats has been a host listened and invested!

Seiki's space was a fantastic experience. If you are looking for a taste of authentic Japan complete with tatami room and large bathing tub, this is a wonderful space for your experience of Kyoto. The location is in a great area near Kyoto University with many grocery markets and restaurants nearby. I lived in Kyoto for almost a year before staying here my last days and it was the perfect end to my time in Kyoto. Highly recommended.

Superb apartment. Close to a metro station and bus stops. You can't cook yourself but several inexpensive restaurants nearby and a konbini nearby too. Seiki also warned me at local events to go see. A stay at the top!

My wife and I stayed at Seiki's place for 4 nights while we were visiting Kyoto and we really enjoyed our stay there. The apartment building was undergoing renovations during our visit (both the interior and the exterior) and was not in great shape overall, but the apartment itself was just as described. The space was very cozy and pleasant and Seiki was very quick to respond to all of our questions. Also, the complimentary pocket wi-fi that she provided for us was a great touch, and it turned out to be quite useful during our sightseeing walks. The neighborhood was quiet, but a reasonably short, roughly 10-minute, walk away from the subway, which was convenient.

We had a great time at Seiki’s place. Although it’s not very central and the neighbourhood doesn’t offer much, it is very well connected to every point of interest with lots of buses. The beds are super comfortable and we had great sleeps! The apartment is small but extremely nice. It would have important to know beforehand that it wasn’t allowed to cook, especially travelling with a baby.

Despite being a Japanese-style room, it is wonderful to be remodeled this way!

Great place, fantastic to have a whole house to stay in. Loved everything, from the huge tv, to lots of cutlery and plates. The bathroom is awesome, it’s huge! Everything is a luxury. The bicycles are a real bonus, we did some great exploring on them. The beds were great too, really comfortable. Heater/ ac in every room, it’s better than home comforts! It was great. We had a wonderful stay in Kyoto thanks also to Momo’s and Eri’s kindness and responsivenes, always taking care that everything goes well. The house is very well located to discover Kyoto, quite near the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) with restaurants and groceries around (10 to 15 minutes walk). The house was of course perfectly clean and comfortable, ideal for a family stay to discover the wonders of Kyoto. We definitely recommend it. Valérie and Frédéric

The house was very large and comfortable. The location was very good, there was a bicycle and it was very convenient. I would like to use it again.

A house with a very high cost performance has come to Kyoto to change houses a few times. This time it is the most satisfactory. The landlord is very attentive and meticulous, making the housing experience very comfortable, and also providing bicycles for free, making traveling in Kyoto very convenient. The local personal is very satisfied. The surrounding area is very quiet and the transportation is very convenient. The attractions can be reached by walking nearby. There are many unique shops in Kyoto, suitable for walking or cycling, and slowly explore. I will continue to book here next time in Kyoto, and it will take longer.

The accommodation was satisfactory. It's not much different from the picture, but it's better. Quiet because it's not a busy street. It's a bit dark at night and lacks heating. It is still the best place to stay. We want to use next

Great apartment very close to Kyoto golden temple. About 40 minute bus ride from Kyoto station but this did not hinder us during our stay. Momo was a great host and always answered our questions in a timely manner. Would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Kyoto

Great place, really classic Japanese style home with all the sliding doors and stylish rooms. Was very comfortable and was exactly as listed like the booking. Also we arrived early in Kyoto and host still arrived right before to welcome us and show us around. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely reccomend staying here.

Looking at the house is very chic, and the bicycles are particularly good. It is recommended to spend half a day on the bicycle to experience the life of the Japanese residents.

My family and I had a nice stay at this location. It had a great Japanese traditional feel to the place and my daughter loved the Hello Kitty room. The place is a little far from a Rail station but there is a lot of bus options in the general area. $2 per person per night is not included in the AirBnb price, not a big deal but can add up for large families over many nights. Overall, very good experience!

The landlady is super welcoming and very friendly! Stayed for four nights! very happy! The house has been 80 years old! Very feel! Suggest people to live together! Otherwise afraid

This was a perfect place! We wanted to stay somewhere that felt like we were in Japan. The kids loooovveeedd the hello kitty room. It was a nice quiet neighborhood. There are restaurants and stores around but you will need to take the bus to get to most places. The bus system is super easy to figure out and we took it everywhere.

The stay as Duncan and Audrey's was absolutely lovely. They took care to add many thoughtful touches to the place, and it is a perfect retreat after a busy day of exploring Kyoto. As an added bonus, the plum blossoms at Kitano Tenmangu are just a one minute walk away!

Duncan’s house was just perfect size for us two! Well equipped and comfortable. Duncan was so easy to communicate during our stay. We especially loved the market which located in Kitano Tenmangu Shrine near the house.

we had a lovely experience staying at duncan & audrey’s space - the house is clean, well-decorated, cozy and just a stone’s throw away from convenience stores and a handful of buses that take you straight into the city. duncan is quick to respond and extremely helpful - he addressed all our questions almost immediately and even had a great airport transfer option to recommend. checking in and out was a breeze, and there was a lovely selection of fruits, milk, and bread which he prepared - a welcome sight after a long day of travelling! they thoughtfully stayed up to ensure there were no issues with checking in, especially since we came in on a pretty late flight! i highly recommend staying here during your time in kyoto and can’t wait to come back again.

Duncan and Audrey’s place in Kyoto is a must if you want to experience living like a local. Their home was beautifully furnished and the hospitality was five stars. We loved the little touches that they provided on our stay. They were also great with communication and check out was v easy. Location wise there is a bus stop nearby and with the bikes provided you can easily bike to a few places (the Golden Pavillion is close by). We loved our stay and would highly highly recommend. This house is a perfect home base for your Kyoto adventure. It's not located downtown, but there's so many great sites within a 30 minute walk (or short train ride) that it was just prefect for us. The house is stylish, comfortable and quiet.

Very modern and well maintained place. Very kind hosts. Some temples are in walking distance. Bus stop ca 200 m away with a few different lines. 30 min by bus to the main station.

This place is a traditional Japanese wooden house , the first floor is Izakaya , accommodation on the sec floor , Aiichoro is very helpful for any info you ask, if you wanna experience the local life of Kyoto , here is the place for you !
