Just booked in Navarro
Our cabin is nestled among redwood trees a few miles from the wild Pacific Ocean, the historic village of Mendocino, and the scenic wine country known as Anderson Valley. Enjoy tranquility and nature at this artistic retreat. All bookings include Mendocino County bed tax.
Remote, quiet cabin with loft bedroom and small, southern-exposure deck offer creative sanctuary. Calendar usually opens about two months ahead of time. In the meantime, if you have dates in mind, feel free to send inquiry. Efficient, tiny galley, on-demand heater, wood stove, handcrafted woodwork. 7 miles to the store or gourmet restaurants. Dozens of beaches, hike/bike trails, rivers, state parks to explore. Rustic, yet elegant main room is 225 sq ft with cathedral ceiling and a 120 sq ft sleeping loft. A state-of-the art shower, toilet, and pedestal sink afford endless forest views, on-demand hot water, and antique touches. There's a loveseat, cozy chair, dining table and chairs in the main room. Up an 11-step ladder find a queen Flo-Bed, small desk and a tree-house-like view of the forest. Filtered light and a restful quietude invite sweet dreams. Galley is stocked with essentials including organic, locally roasted coffee, pristine, deep-well water and a small fridge for treats you find locally. Farm-fresh apples, berries or eggs on request (when in season). No TV. Your choice: disconnect from the information superhighway or connect to wireless and cell networks. Note: the cabin is self-catering (e.g. no room service breakfast like the inns provide). Designed for a getaway. We look forward to sharing this retreat with those who seek harmony and proximity to nature's moods. Please have a complete AirBnB profile before requesting a reservation, and feel free to inquire if you're interested in dates that appear to be blocked on the calendar. A few words about Owl Tree cabin to help you decide if you might want to stay here. We first noticed how undulating lacy green patterns change as the morning sun makes its way through the trees. Probably, if you love Las Vegas, you most likely would not like it here. And if you love Deetjen's Big Sur Inn, you would be more inclined to like it here. It is similar to Deetjen's, rustic and natural merging with nature, but dissimilar, in that the Big Sur Inn is most always full to capacity, so you’re in close proximity to people. Here you have privacy, a retreat from the world. The Owl Tree cabin has its own level driveway; it takes less than a minute to walk from where you park to the cabin. We live on the far side of the property. All that you might hear at night will be the breeze in the top branches of the redwoods, and perhaps frogs, an owl, or the red-tailed hawk who soars nearby. Every spot on Earth has its own unique energy and the cabin and the small canyon it was built in are conducive to creative energy, to the creative mind, at work or play. The cabin is also a place for intimacy—hopefully more than just a place to sleep while you enjoy the coast, this place is designed to become part of your experience here. The oak table was the idea the cabin was built around—you can sit there, draw, write or daydream, warmed by the wood burning stove, and let your imagination germinate like the wild orchids in the canyon. Proximity. We are located about four and a half miles inland from Pacific Coast Highway, just beyond reach of summertime wind and fog. When it is cold and wet on the coast it is usually beautiful and warm here, summer tempered by the coastal marine layer. So you can enjoy the sunshine and enjoy the coast, without being stuck in the fog. Closest market, post office and gas are 7 miles from the cabin. Some of the best beaches, hiking trails, places to dive and kayak are between here and Elk, and of course the historic and picturesque village of Mendocino is about 13 miles away. A wine tasting trip to the magnificent Anderson valley is within 30 minutes. The Owl Tree cabin comes with a picnic table and umbrella in a small meadow, next to redwood trees: also perfect for stargazing. Regardless of where you decide to stay, we hope you have a great time. It is hard to imagine a world in trouble when you are here. The meadows, the forests, and the pristine ocean seem timeless. Check in: ideally from 4 pm - 6 pm by prior arrangement for your particular arrival day. Try to arrive before dark! Check out before noon. Note: price includes 11% Mendocino County Bed Tax for stays less than 30 days.
Our homestead is in the middle of timberland. There really isn't a neighborhood. Closest restaurants (Ledford House)(Albion River Inn) are 6 miles; closest store and post office (Albion) are 7 miles.

* update* We are only a couple miles from the coast. There are no fires in our area and our air quality has not been recently effected. The wind patterns typically keep the smoke from are area. The water tower is tucked away and nestled among redwood trees a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. This is a place to disconnect and reconnect with the surrounding. We are about 5 miles to our little town Elk and a nice coastal drive for about 14 miles to Mendocino.
**Important Consideration** before making a reservation. The queen bed is located in the second-floor loft space. Steps to this space are more like a ladder (very steep) stairs and may be a problem for some individuals. Just remember to go up and down facing them... like a ladder :) *The water tower seating is lower to the ground. Please see pictures for reference. *There is no wifi or cell services. The space is equipped with: - Day bed seating - Queen bed in 2nd floor lofted sleeping area - Full bath with standing shower - Small kitchenette with a small gas stove burner, compact fridge, standard utensils and dinnerware. We also offer coffee and tea. For light cooking. - Books/games and a record player for music. - Propane gas heating
The water tower is set in the woods with no visible neighbors. Our neighbors are all generally very quiet. Our little town of Elk is fairly small, but beautiful. A great place for a hike down to the beach or along the coastline. For any provisions we have a great market (The Elk Store - closes 6:00pm) with sandwiches, cheeses, a great selection of wine and beer, and all other main essentials. You can grab breakfast/lunch at Queens Roadhouse Cafe (Thursday thru Monday 8am to 3pm). There are also many other restaurants/cafes along Hwy 1 within a few miles. --- Mendocino - 25 min (14.6 miles) Elk Town - 11 min (5.4 miles) The larger market in Mendocino is open until 9:00pm.

*11% Mendocino County TOT & BID taxes are included in your rate* Our peaceful cottage is located a few miles inland from the coast, along beautiful Navarro Ridge. It's a special community with many residents having lived here for decades, tending their homesteads. On your way in, you are likely to see cattle, horses, pigs, emus, and chickens. Deer, coyote, foxes, mountain lions, owls, hawks, vultures, and bears also frequent the ridge.
High ceilings and skylights make the cottage feel spacious, yet it's still under the majestic redwoods. There is a comfy new King bed, clawfoot tub, and full kitchen for your use. A small, private deck is just outside the cottage, as well as a rustic fire pit (available during the winter/rain season). We've added a television and dvd player for movie lovers. The cottage offers moderately fast satellite internet.
Take a walk along the beautiful ridge, or stop at Navarro Point for the nearest stunning ocean views. Navarro Beach is wild and scenic, particularly during the winter months. Staying here feels a bit more "in the country" than staying in the Village of Mendocino even though you're only 25 minutes away. The cottage is ideally situated for those who would like to explore the surrounding areas of Mendocino, Anderson Valley, and Point Arena.
  • Private, comfortable, and just right

  • We found the location easy to find, pleasantly tucked away in the woods, very quiet and calming. The cabin is very spacious and has all the amenities one needs, carefully considered by the hosts. Know or learn how to build a roaring fire in the fireplace, don’t give up, read the instructions carefully, because it is more than worth it to have the pleasure of that warmth while you relax in the great clawfoot tub, or play those fun boardgames, listen to good music, read that book chosen from the small but excellent home library! The host has a good list of suggestions and recommendations: we especially liked the Goodlife Cafe for morning coffees, breakfast, and take-out lunches. The easy Fern Canyon hike in VanDamme State Park was one of our favorite outings. The Albion Store has, amazingly, anything you need. Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • We loved our stay at Renee's. Check-in was super easy and they gave us lots of great suggestions for coastal hikes and restaurants nearby! Would definitely come back again, we loved Albion and Mendocino!

    Sara2017-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at Renee's cabin, which had easy access to great hiking trails and the shops of Mendocino while still being well off the beaten path. We marveled at how quiet the cabin remained through our whole stay -- often, an hour or more would pass without our hearing even a passing car. It was a perfect escape for a long weekend, and we look forward to returning in the future!

    Trevor2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic. Lovely, secluded cabin that was nonetheless easy to find, even after sunset when we arrived. Well upkept, very clean, and freshly painted, with fresh flowers and fresh eggs from their free range chickens. There was a TV and DVD player with a couple DVDs (we didn't try them out) as well as some books and old magazines we enjoyed. Kitchen had pans, olive oil, and various spices for the eggs. There was a coffee maker, filters, and one pot's worth of coffee (and sugar) to get us through the first morning. The one thing that was a challenge for us was that we didn't realize the wood burning stove is really the cabin's main heat source. There's a small space heater that will heat the bedroom up nicely if you close the doors to trap the heat, but if you want the living room heated up you're going to need to build a fire. Probably not a problem for most people, but we had never really done that before. Renee left very detailed instructions, which were helpful, as well as some logs and kindling and a few pieces of newspaper, but it took us 20-30 minutes to get the fire going every time we wanted to use it (don't judge), and kept running out of newspaper. Just be prepared to have a fire-starting adventure if you're not used to that kind of thing, and would probably bring extra newspaper. Or one of those "campfire in a bag" things if you want to make it easy on yourself. Maybe in the summer months this won't be an issue (we went in May when the daytime highs were in the 50's). Beside that minor issue, it was a really wonderful little place and definitely a great value!

    Karen2017-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • The host canceled this reservation 10 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

    Matt2017-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Renee's cabin was perfect for our week long get-away from it all. We had everything we needed and it was so peaceful in the woods. Such an enjoyable place to stay cozy and enjoy the company of those you bring with you.

Truly one of a kind experience. Surround yourself with beautiful redwood valley views, yet minutes to vineyards, the coast and all that the spectacular Anderson Valley has to offer. The Hexagon is hand crafted from a felled redwood tree on the property, designed with an organic modernist aesthetic & meticulously developed into the perfect guest retreat. Signature to this guest cabin is the outdoor bathroom, inspired by the owner's safari in Africa. The Hexagon is powered by solar energy.
No detail has been overlooked in The Hexagon. It has been designed so that you feel like you are floating in nature, even when you are inside, fireside and cozy. Four of the six sides of this structure have windows, so wherever you look you see views and nature. As you relax in bed, read on the leather armchair, enjoy an outdoor shower or soak in the two person exterior tub, you may see deer, wild turkey, rabbit, quail, hawk, eagle, chickadee and more. The Hexagon feels remarkably roomy because of its vaulted ceiling and plentiful light. It is cozy because of its working fireplace, defined by a gorgeous Heath Ceramics tiled hearth. The building is sited to be nestled into a grove of madrone trees for privacy, yet have unobstructed views of the valley below. The defining feature of The Hexagon is the exterior bathroom, which was inspired by the owner's remote safari in Africa. The bathroom is literally one with nature, with a madrone penetrating the privacy wall and providing support for the shower, as well as felled madrone branches serving as the railing spindles of the deck. The Hexagon is part of a larger property with other buildings that the owners have built out as a labor of love and an expression of their creativity over the last 15 years. 200 feet away is a converted Airstream trailer that is also available as an additional guest suite as well as a large deck with adirondack chairs that you are welcome to use. The Hexagon has an outdoor kitchen, including propane bbq with 1 burner, kitchen sink, cooler and dining table. We provide a few pots and pans, a few basic cooking utensils, sharp knives, cutting board, bbq tools, plates and glasses. You will need to bring ice for the cooler, food, anything for cooking including spices, etc. Ice can be bought 3 miles away at the local convenience store in Navarro. In addition, in your private exterior kitchen, you will find the exterior dining table and chairs, portable exterior lounge chairs, and a hammock. It is the perfect spot to get away with a loved one, or alone. It is a great jumping off point for day trips or for the writer looking for a spot to feel inspired. We love it here and hope you do too!
The Hexagon is located in the perfect spot for a unique weekend away from it all. You will find yourself perched on a ridge overlooking the vast Anderson Valley. Madrone, tan oak and redwood trees envelop you on the property. All of the surrounding parcels are multi-acre properties as well, accessible by the same road. A short drive away are award winning vineyards and fabulous restaurants. The Hexagon is 15 minutes from some of the most spectacular California coastline and 35 minutes from Mendocino. Within minutes you are at the secret swimming hole of the Navarro river or shopping the local farm stands. Oh, and five minutes away is a great convenience store with great coffee, wine, and sandwiches. For city folk, this will be a truly country experience, yet with amenities. For country folk used to acres-upon-acres of isolation, keep in mind that while the property is private, other neighbors do use the access road.
  • Really enjoyed our stay at the Hexagon. The beautiful views and the outdoor tub were a phenomenal experience. Having to start a fire each night (only if you want since there is a heater) was lots of fun. Would recommend bringing your own drinking water even though some is already provided. We hope to come back soon!

  • Just a beautiful simple piece of heaven with everything you need.

    Gaby2017-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay in the Hexagon. Can't say more than what has already been said--beautiful location, cozy fireplace, romantic, wonderful outdoor shower and bath tub, great communication....overall sensational experience. Thank You!

    Matthew2018-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet place in the middle of nature. It's a joy to sit on the balcony at night or relax in the hangmat during the day.

    Margo2018-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • The hexagon was truly amazing! Great attention to detail - made our stay all the more special. Everything was very clean. outdoor tub and shower is magical, and the view is breathtaking.

    Hali2017-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We truly enjoyed our stay at the Hexagon. This is a unique experience for visitors that want to unplug from modern day technology. We used the Hexagon as a base for day trips to the Mendocino coast. After being in the sun and wind all day, it was so nice to unwind in the outdoor bath for sunset. We were so glad to be able to bring our dog with us as well b/c he also needed an escape from city life and loves the ocean. We communicated w/Jonah about the house/airstream that is visible from the property and he assured us that no one was going to be around during our stay. There was a great document of information and an extensive contract agreement we had to sign to stay, but if I had created a space like this and wanted to share it with the public air b and b community I can understand why you would want this agreement to ensure that it is taken care of well.

    Sarah2017-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Hex is a truly special place. My wife and I stayed there during our friends' wedding at nearby Camp Navarro. Jonah's instructions were very clear and check-in was easy. The setup is simple and it does feel like you're on a safari, but you have a bunch of small luxuries, like a hot tub (a converted water trough), coffee, tea, fireplace and a comfy bed. Going to the bathroom outside at night can be a bit daunting, especially in cold nights, but we adapted. The views of the nearby hills are beautiful and you feel like you're in a private, secluded place.

    Alfredo2017-05-29T00:00:00Z

My place is close to the beach 18 miles to Elk and ocean. You’ll love my place because It's clean, safe and quite. and it is cozy. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. we are of off the main road and the last 1/2 is on a rock road. Depending upon the time of year it may have a few pot holes. However you will have no problems driving a normal car. We do it all the time.
A couple of our guest stated that they would have like having drapes. We listened and there are now drapes. Also one commented that the head board on the bed was movable. It has been fixed to the wall. We listen and are here for you.
The cabin is located off of a county road. The last half mile may be a little washboard; so drive slowly. There are plenty of place to hike right from the cabin. We have two dogs and two older horses.
  • Absolute gem of a place. Just up the road from Big Hendy woods and Anderson Valley's best wineries. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful, with a full kitchen and bathroom and all amenities. Bob was able to meet us at the driveway and let us in. We were so happy to have found such a wonderful place to spend our little vacation. Thank you!

    Christy2017-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect spot for someone looking for a secluded getaway from urban life and technological distractions. The cabin, Bob and his wife's former home, is a beautiful space with an old-fashioned wood stove and stocked kitchen. There are enough utensils and cookware to cook comfortably, and it is definitely recommended to bring your own groceries. Plenty of hot water in the chilly and rainy weather, yay! The drive to and from the Airbnb site winds through for a couple miles through the forest and is a little bumpy, but it is lovely to go through the woods and see deer, mice, and other critters. Come here expecting complete isolation in terms of location (it is really out there), but know that many wineries and the Apple Farm are just a couple miles away. Bob and his family, including the dogs, were kind and friendly hosts, and it was a great experience staying here.

    Tina2017-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Robert was a fantastic host. The place was cozy and private. Great place to get away and enjoy the natural world a bit. We chatted about my plans to visit Yosemite and later that day he brought me a book about Yosemite. Kind and helpful host, great stay

    Kevin2017-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • A very quiet and peaceful retreat in the forest. A cozy cabin with wonderful hosts. Recommended for a get away. Be sure to take a hike in the nearby Hendy Woods State Park to see the redwoods.

    Helene2017-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing little peace of heaven this space is! Robert & Jo were great host and the place was perfect for a few nights out of the city and in the woods. Everything was as described. The picture Robert took of my wife and I was an amazing touch. If you need to get out of the hustle of the city for a while this is the place to go! The space is intimate and perfect size for two people. The bed is small for two people but still very comfy! We had a fire going the entire time with plenty of wood provided by the hosts. It was heaven! We will definitely be back as soon as we can!

    Craig2018-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a tiny house surrounded by dense, pretty forest 30 minutes from the nearest town down a small road that's half dirt. The house is beautifully built and completely modern, not rustic at all, and it's nicely fitted out with kitchen supplies etc. The owner lives next door in a large house and is very pleasant to deal with. Except for his house, there's no structure visible, so you feel isolated, which is either good or bad. There is nothing to do there except wander among the woods and watch movies—the owner has a vast collection he is willing to loan. There's a nice stove and firewood if you want a fire, or baseboard heating if you don't. A number of things would have made our visit more comfortable. The bed is a standard double, which to us feels cramped. The ladder to the sleeping loft is very steep, which at our age was intimidating. The TV set is set up too high for comfortable viewing (the owner said he would lower it), and we couldn't figure out how to get the two recliner chairs (the only sitting chairs in the house) to recline. We'd strongly encourage the owner to add some board games.

    Nancy2017-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place to stay. Beautiful location and comfortable home. It very close to the Anderson Valley wineries and the coast. Very friendly and accommodating host. A great, out of the way place for someone looking to get away.

    Mary2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts, Bob and Jo, are so warm, welcoming and helpful. They found a piece of paradise and graciously allow their guests to enjoy the space. The cabin is very comfortable, Bob had the fireplace ready to light, and we had everything we needed and more. We relaxed on the porch and went for walks through the woods, and loved our stay. The photo that Bob took of me and my husband was a special gift.

  • Amazingly private studio with unbelievable views! You can walk right to the town of Elk and to the beach, which was a big improvement from some other places we have stayed in Mendocino where driving is the only way to get around. Check-in was easy (a lockbox) and the space was perfectly clean with a large fridge and stocked kitchen. Very comfortable bed, too. We did not get to meet the hosts, but their property is lovely and welcoming (did I mention the view?). We would love to return!

The cabin is located in Philo near many of the best wineries in Anderson Valley -- Handley, Husch, Navarro, Roederer, & Greenwood Ridge, a short drive to the ancient redwoods of Hendy Woods and the Navarro River. The cabin is spacious with high ceilings, a sleeping loft, full kitchen, and thermostat operated gas fireplace. Safe, sturdy ladder-like stairs access the loft but could be an issue for some. Minutes from Philo and Navarro, and about 15 from Boonville. Less than 1/2 hour to the Coast.
Located on 10 private acres of meadows and redwood forest a short drive off the highway, the land is vibrant with deer and birds large and small. This is a peaceful place to relax and recharge. Wine tasting is close by at Anderson Valley's oldest family-owned wineries specializing in Pinot Noir, Alsace varietals, and the best sparkling wines produced in the US. A lovely short drive through the redwoods brings you to the bluffs and beaches of the Mendocino Coast. Nearby Hendy Woods State Park has two groves of ancient redwoods and access to the Navarro River as well as miles of trails, some of which are available for bicycles. Generally pleasant climate year round at the Navarro end of Anderson Valley with coastal breezes without much fog. Arts and crafts studios and shops nearby. A wide variety of organic food is available locally in season, and a weekend Farmer's Market has everything from olive oil to hand blown glass beads, not to mention the freshest fruits and vegetables. The cabin is clean, airy, and recently remodeled with a queen bed in the loft and a newly tiled bathroom. The loft is accessed by safe and sturdy ladder-like stairs which could be an issue for those with mobility challenges. The loft windows look out on the redwoods. It's like sleeping in a tree house--but much more comfy! A pleasant place to stay any time of the year. The sunny front deck overlooks a meadow and the back balcony is a shady place to catch the afternoon breezes. The second bed, which is in the living area, is a chair that pulls out to a comfortable platform single bed. A futon for the floor is available, but it's a bit crowded with four people. There is visual separation between the loft and the main room but no door. Do us both a favor and please do not inquire about whether you can bring your pet. I love animals, but the answer is going to be no. (insert little whimper here) Convenient to SF Bay Area, about 2.5 hours from Golden Gate Bridge.

A charming cottage in historic Anderson Valley location. Surrounded by grapevines, woods, and meadows and within walking distance of two wineries. This one bedroom cottage is located on a homestead purchased by our grandparents in the mid 1900's. Under the pepperwood tree, you'll have a front and back porch, flowers everywhere, and a sunroom out the back door. A small home away from home in a country setting. I loved the summers back home, but when the produce is coming in Aug./Sept., Best!
Our property is approximately 3 acres at the end of Ruddock Road in Philo, California. We're directly adjacent to Indian Creek Road on one side, and privately owned large acreage in the back. When in season and in good years, we have fresh picked peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots from trees in the yard, and mom's garden might offer tomatoes and other fresh produce during the garden season.
  • We had a lovely, peaceful and relaxing stay. Our hostess' were very helpful and enjoyable. We will definitely be going back!

  • Thanks so much to all the family members involved!!...the check in was great as we were met as we drove up...we were taken on a tour of the rental property and all the options were explained in detail and they made sure everything worked before they left...even though they live on site we never felt our privacy was invaded. We needed a couple of extra kitchen items and immediate access was provided...the rental was very, very clean in all aspects, and everything worked in great order. We are definitely recommending this rental to all our Anderson Valley visitors and look forward to another stay when we are in the area...thank you!

  • What a little piece of paradise! We absolutely loved staying at the cottage - Linda and Mel were the sweetest and most accommodating hosts, and the space is so rustic and peaceful. The cottage itself is adorable and the grounds, despite being steps away from wineries and restaurants, felt like a far-away land. If you are looking for a quiet getaway in the woods but with a warm bed and the best hosts ever, stay here. My guess is they’ll book up super fast so if you see that it’s open, snag it!!! <3

  • Cute cottage, nice and quiet. Easy walk to a winery and good dinner. Lovely sun porch. Hosts helpful and friendly.

    Chelsea2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful spot! The cabin is comfortable, clean, and cozy, shaded by some large trees. Very private but in a great location (we walked to a couple of wineries and were within a 10-minute drive to redwoods, swimming holes, and trails). We enjoyed the front deck and the picnic table in the back. The sunroom is absolutely gorgeous, as are the flowers all over the property. We're already talking about going back.

  • This rustic country cabin provides a quaint quiet space (aside from some local roosters) with plentiful plants and a great deal of character. Wifi-free, but has everything you need for a quiet weekend away. A good home base for local hiking, wine tasting, and general stillness.

    Amanda2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Cute and cozy and convenient and comfortable. Lots of interesting plants and a charming rustic yard. We arrived on a cool day and the cabin was toasty warm. A pretty spot in the beautiful Anderson Valley.

  • Amazing view. Very livable place. Slight concerns: bad sewage smell from bathroom, and beds are very old and not very stable.

  • This was an INCREDIBLE trip for us. It was an amazing and well decorated bungalow with a very intimate feel. The view was incredible and Stacey was the best host! The road was well paved leading up to the bungalow and once we arrived there was a personal parking spot for us right next to the house. We will definitely be returning to this little slice of heaven, thanks for everything Stacey!

    Gentry2018-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great house, great view, and great hostess... You won't want to leave the property. Quiet, secluded, and well appointed.... Thanks for having us.

    Edward2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, infant son and I enjoyed a wonderful long weekend in Stacey's bungalow. It's sparkling clean, stylish and appears to be brand new, with all the amenities you might need. The property and location are one of a kind, with incredible views. Stacey is was always easy to reach before and during our stay, and had lots of great recommendations about the area. Highly recommended.

    Matthew2018-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Stacey's cottage. The space is stylishly decorated but also very comfortable, with everything in pristine condition. We cooked one night and found the kitchen well stocked with pots and pans, knives, a Nespresso machine, electric water kettle, etc. The bathroom is also spacious and super clean. My favorite thing about the cottage was the location--extremely peaceful with lovely views of the valley and mountains to the west, yet only 5 minutes or so by car to the main highway. This would be a perfect getaway spot for a couple on a romantic weekend. We had our 8-year-old with us, and that worked well, too. He slept on the bed in the pull-out couch, while my husband and I slept in the main bed, which is curtained off from the rest of the space. During our stay, we ventured to several wineries in the area, visited a goat farm, explored the nearby redwood state park, and had lunch and a hike in Mendocino. Returning to the cottage after a day of exploring was great--it's a very soothing and peaceful retreat.

  • Stacey's bungalow is the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in! It is exactly as it appears in the photos - very stylishly decorated with amazing views. It is more than spacious for a couple traveling together, even bigger than I thought it would be. Moreover, Stacey has thought of every possible detail in setting up this beautiful retreat. There is a full sized kitchen with a complete set of pots, pans, cooking utensils, coffee mugs, wine glasses, etc. right down to a Nespresso machine and a lemon zester. Every time we thought, "I wonder if there's a...?" it was there. In addition to the ameneties, the fridge was stocked with eggs, English muffins, fruit, and yogurt prior to our arrival. Just one of the many extras (like lovely white bathrobes!) that were provided. Stacey is highly communicative and was very easy to reach by text before and during our stay. After welcoming us at check in and showing us around, she got in touch a few times to provide additional information and even offered to bring over some squash and herbs from her garden, which we happily accepted. One thing to note, the setting is remote (which is part of why it's so great) so it is likely that you will not have cell service at the bungalow; however, there is wifi on site and it worked perfectly during our stay so we never had any issues keeping in touch, browsing the web, etc. As to the setting, it is amazingly beautiful and secluded. It would make an idyllic artist's retreat, but it is also perfect if you are just looking for a place to relax in peace and quiet as we were. The bungalow is about a 10 minute drive from the main highway and is accessed by a small, but very well maintained, private road. It rained a bit during our stay and we had no issues whatsoever with the drive to and from. Because you are 10 minutes from the main highway and about an hour or more from a proper grocery store - and because you'll probably never want to leave the place once you are there - I would highly recommened stopping to stock up on provisions before you check in. I can't say enough good things about this place. From the well-appointed layout to the amenities, extra touches, and amazing setting, Stacey's bungalow is pretty much flawless. I've just returned and am already dreaming about going back.

  • Stacey's bungalow is a beautiful getaway.

  • The hostess, Stacey, is amazing. She really made us feel at home in her amazing house. It's the perfect place to stay to get away from it all and enjoy the nature. Super comfortable accommodations with an incredible, serene view. The view of the sky on a clear night is spectacular!

    Joe2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Probably the best place we've stayed to switch off and relax for many years. With the added bonus that it was the cleanest and best equipped house rental we've ever seen. Looking forward to our next visit!

During the summer months of June, July, and August, Blackbird Farm operates as a Farm Stay Inn that hosts weddings, corporate retreats, vacations, and other events. Our farm is a rare jewel in rural Anderson Valley, sitting atop a mountain ridge, surrounded by redwoods and pine trees, containing open meadows, scenic lakes, and established fruit tree groves.
The Anderson Valley itself is home to a bevy of local shops, wineries, farms, and even a brewery. There will be a list of community events updated weekly for guests. There are two State Parks within 10 miles of Blackbird Farm and the closest beach is 15 miles away in Elk. The town of Mendocino is an hour drive through the redwoods and along Hwy 1.
  • My 2 young adult daughters and I visited Blackbird Farms & Knockanure B and it was such a fun adventure. The drive up was a bit intimidating (steep, narrow, rocky) but worth the reward of seclusion when we reached the beautiful & peaceful destination. The room was clean & cozy farmhouse style. We loved the bathroom for 3 ladies with the deep soaking tub & outdoor shower. Soaking in the outdoor cedar tub under the stars was the highlight. Breakfast & coffee were great & host Anna & staff were engaging & helpful. Donation to their non profit farm stay for inner city youths was brilliant! Our only complaint was not staying long enough to enjoy this magical destination!

    Maureen2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in one of the cabins at Blackbird farms and it was an amazing experience. The beds were extremely comfortable, the outdoor shower was fantastic and the spa tub was wonderfully relaxing. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make our visit truly memorable. The food was so fresh and delicious coming right from the onsite farm. We look forward to returning to Blackbird soon!

    Brian2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • A true gem of a place. We absolutely loved our 2 nights here and I believe it is totally undersold! They have boating / fishing / cheese making / horse riding / walking / fantastic staff / morning farm chores on the weekend for the kids / hammocks to laze in / fruit trees which you can help yourself to / vegetable garden you can pick food from to cook on the outdoor oven / dear roaming round / hot tub island where star gazing is amazing. I could not recommend this place highly enough - and all with some of the best wineries in California on the doorstep. The driveway is long, steep and windy so not for you if you don't like being slightly off the beaten path (although it's only 10 mins or so up this road) but for me it was heaven.

    Katie2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Blackbird farm is a really great place to stay in Philo. Off the beaten path, so quiet and peaceful. It was the perfect place to stay with kids. So much to explore, plus animals, and a pool! Our room was awesome and the staff could not be more helpful and accommodating.

  • Blackbird Farm is a beautiful working farm with friendly staff, cozy cabins and a community atmosphere in the farm house. We loved the farm breakfast, hot tub while star gazing and hammocks to lounge in. The stay was too short for us, we could have stayed for a week enjoying the activities on the farm. We highly recommended it for families! The long driveway leading up to the farm made it an interesting adventure and splendid surprise when we finally arrived!

  • A relaxing and interesting 250 acre farm 15 minutes drive down dirt road. In 2017 it is undergoing a transition from ranch to sustainable farm. Don't expect luxury, but it does have a pond, pool and pretty nice cabins. Bring a couple gallons of water (well water isn't tasty) and some food so you don't have to make the drive back into Philo. Nice people and wonderfully quiet.

    Louis2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • The description does not do this place justice. A working farm with animals, a beautiful bountiful garden and many places to sit outside and enjoy the scenery, it is a great getaway. Our time here exceeded our expectations and we were happy to support a place dedicated to such a wonderful mission. Rachel will make your stay comfortable and easy. There are fun and unique activities on the property that make this so different from a traditional cottage BnB experience. We will definitely be sending friends!

    Jill2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had an incredible stay at Blackbird Farm! Rachel was so welcoming and accommodating throughout our stay, going above and beyond to make guests comfortable. The many amenities of the property from the refreshing pool to quaint hot tub on a pond, friendly farm animals, a lake with rowboats to relaxing hammocks, made every minute of our stay peaceful and pleasant. We did not feel the need to leave the property at all on our second day. The driveway is long, unpaved and winding but worth the remote location. There were other guests on the property but we felt like the only ones around most of the time with so much open space to explore. We planned meals and snacks in advance, knowing it would be a trek to any stores or restaurants. The options for chef prepared meals onsight was helpful. Highly recommend the experience!

  • Stunning view and beaches! The area is friendly and inviting. If you are looking for a quiet place to read on the beach, or enjoy nature, this is it. Good hiking, trails, wildlife viewing, and easy walk to town, or sort ride to Albion. It's all about the deck on this house. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, cookware, and small appliances. The beds were very comfortable. Probably a great family get away location. The only criticism I could provide is that the house smells a bit musty. Also to be noted the beach blow the property is not directly, or easily accessible. However, because it isn't easily accessible no one is on it. It is worth the effort to get down there. It is a protected quiet cove with lots of rocks, caves, and sea life. We would definitely come back. Bring your own entertainment if your into something other than enjoying nature.

  • Incredible location with magical ocean cliff yard and view. That alone is worth the stay. The home is large, comfortable and charming. The town is small, with friendly folks. Excellent little pub with great food. Classy little general store with great wine selection and snacks.

  • You are staying here for the amazing VIEW. It's truly one of a kind. The house, furniture, and amenities, are extremely outdated. At $800+ a night I think it was way overpriced for the quality.

Rent a private master bedroom in a delightful home. Guests will be able to enjoy the quiet seclusion of the home surrounded by redwoods and the sunny ridge that is just a few miles to the coast! There is an abundance of clean air and fresh water (the property has its own artisanal well) and peace and quiet. The home is near stunning coastal views, trails and redwood forests - a true Northern California gem!
The house, though only 5 miles to the coast, feels very country. It Is on 3.5 acres of land and is surrounded by redwood trees. You can even do walking trails on the property!
We are about 5 miles to Albion river and 12 miles to Mendocino. About s 30 minute drive to Fort Bragg.
  • If you're looking for a lovely Mendocino get-away, I would highly recommend this little cabin. Perfect location for a short drive to many restaurants and beautiful coastal views. Jim and puppy Chewie are very nice and accommodating. The wifi is not strong, but the stars are sight to behold, so worth it. Thanks for a lovely weekend!

    Evelyn2018-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • The room was as described. Jim was a pleasurable host who had suggestions on great beaches in the area. The dog, Chewy, is absolutely adorable. It was lovely being able to use a real stove while traveling so we could cook a little. The place was peaceful and felt remote despite being a short drive away from town.

  • Elisa's home is so lovely and comfortable. A notably comfortable bed for an excellent night's sleep. The area is beautiful and a short drive to the Mendocino coves and the state park. We also loved her adorable and friendly mop dog. Would definitely stay here again!

    Marissa2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very pleasant (Email hidden by Airbnb) munication with Elisa was easy and efficient. The place is situation a short drive from the coast, ideal for visits to the Mendocino coast and Anderson valley. The bedroom was clean and well decorated. We had access to the kitchen that was well stocked. We would stay here again if visiting the area.

  • The perfect weekend escape from SF offering us far more than we anticipated, including a bit of education on maintaining a farm. The beautiful sprawling property gave us plenty to do--we didn't leave for our preplanned day trips and felt completely fulfilled by hikes on the farm, swimming, garden walks (and grazing), animal visits, picking apples, lounging around in hammocks, and soaking up the stars in the hot tub island! Our newly renovated room (Knockanure) felt spacious and luxuriously country chic. The outdoor shower, incredibly comfy beds, rocking chairs...hit just the right note. Felt very welcome and very cared for, especially by the kitchen staff who prepared delicious farm to table meals. Inspired, blown away and will be returning!

    Jaime2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • The room was very large with fireplace, refrigerator, sitting area and comfy beds. The bathroom was also large with 2 sinks, a jetted tub, indoor and outdoor showers, and toilet. Soft, fluffy towels for all. We enjoyed exploring the property after yummy breakfasts.

  • I was wary to book Blackbird Farm due to the absence of user reviews. I should have listened to my intuition. My stay at Blackbird Farm was the worst AirBNB experience I have ever had. In March 2017, I booked Knockanure A for 2 nights - July 7-9. On the afternoon of July 7, I called the onsite property manager, Rachel, to confirm that a late check-in would be okay. At that time, Rachel informed me that the Knockanure A would be unavailable upon my check-in because someone at Blackbird Farm Stay Inn had mistakenly overbooked my reservation. Rachel offered a replacement room, Mill House, for tonight and offered to move us into Knockanure A tomorrow night. I specifically asked Rachel if the replacement was comparable to the Knockanure A and she said "Yes, the owners stay there when they are on the property." After a 12 hour workday and 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco, we arrived at Mill House. After Rachel had checked us into the room and left, we started to settle in and were taken aback by the inferiority/insufficiency of the accommodations. Our issues with the Mill House were as follows: -The shower had not been cleaned. There was soap scum on the walls and floor, pubic hair everywhere, and old soap remnants. -My colleague has allergies to pet dander. The owners have a dog because her allergies flared up immediately. Our suspicions were confirmed when we saw a box of dog biscuits on top of the refrigerator. Rachel did not disclose that the owners have a dog stay in this unit. -The unit appeared to have mice. We saw "mouse attractant" bottle on top of the refrigerator. -Owners' personal belongings and clutter are everywhere. -Ripped/crumpled paper blinds above the kitchen sink. -The accommodations, decor, and furniture are extremely old and outdated. We specifically booked the Knockanure room because it was newly renovated and touted as the bridal suite. -The bathroom has patched walls badly in need of painting. All in all, it was obvious that the Mill House was not an adequate replacement for the Knockanure A room. Moreover, the Mill House was not worth the $225 that we paid for the Knockanure A room. However, after driving 3.5 hours from San Francisco after a 12 hour workday (with a 16 hour workday the following day), we were desperate for lodging and reluctantly accepted this “replacement.” At 1am, I woke up screaming because there was a cockroach in my hair. I screamed and flung the cockroach out of my hair. I saw it crawl away. As we are shaking out the bed, we saw another cockroach crawl across the bed. We killed it and we have a picture of it. I immediately called the “onsite” property manager and of course, she did not respond. She was likely enjoying the comfort of her clean and sanitary bed at Blackbird Farm. My colleague and I immediately packed up our belongings and left. Luckily, a colleague had a...

  • We completely enjoyed our stay at the farm. So beautiful and peaceful. Incredible sunsets. Billions of stars at night and gazing deer in the morning was such a treat. Continental breakfast is very good with homemade muffins and the coffee is awesome!! Rachel is a warm and caring host for all your needs. If you want to get away from your busy life, I recommend staying at the Blackburn Farm. Ask for a tour of the property. It's awesome.

  • I was pleasantly surprised that the stay mostly matched the description. My room was neat and comfortable (luckily I had the bathroom to myself). The grounds are beautiful to walk and relax, and the morning breakfast was delicious. I didn't have time to explore the grounds so I can't give any insight there. Caitlyn was attentive and responsive, and even helped connect me with other guests attending the same wedding as I and helping me find a ride to and from the venue. Only (slight) downsides would be the driveway entrance - it's narrow and steep but only really an issue if you're traveling alone. There's no cell service outside of the farm (Anderson Valley had almost no service) so if you're traveling solo, plan your transport accordingly. I had hoped to use the hot tub but it was never on - a small thing but if you'd like to use it, give them some notice. Otherwise, a really relaxing and wonderful stay.

  • Blackbird farm is a fantastic place to visit and get away for a weekend. My girlfriend and I would have stayed longer if we could. Between visiting the animals, hiking the trails, sitting by the lake or lounging on the deck with a book, there was plenty to keep us busy and happy for days on end. And that's not to mention being a short drive to wineries, Hendy Woods and downtown Boonville for more activities. The staff was fantastic, especially Rachel, who was happy to answer all of our questions and make sure we were well taken care of. We definitely plan to come back and visit again.

  • Thank you to all those at Black Bird Farm aka Farm Stay. My wife and I so enjoyed our time with the young adults who oversee the grounds and the inn. Anna our main host was so kind and welcoming kit just added to the birthday weekend. We originally decided to attend Pinot Festival and stay at another BNB, however the host there messed up our reservations at the last minute and suggested we stay here. So in the end it was serendipitous that we stayed here and just loved it. The Friday evening dinner of lamb and salmon was wonderful as were our breakfasts each of the following morning. The grounds are very secluded and so quite. It really is a great place to unplug and just be still. Keep the great work Anna and everyone and we look forward to seeing you again.

We ate on premises for breakfast all meals and one night for dinner at The Farmhouse. The food was delicious and the staff is warm and welcoming. If you desire a place off the beaten path with peace, tranquility, and fresh organic meals, this is the place!! The nearby towns are worth exploring too1

  • We had such a wonderful time here! The property is so beautiful and remote, exactly the kind of refuge we were looking for. The farm animals were so cute and we saw so many cool deer, birds, wild turkeys, and rabbits on the drive up. The cabin we stayed in (Knockanurn) was so nice, it had an amazing jacuzzi tub, awesome indoor shower, and romantic private outdoor shower. It had a fireplace well stocked with firewood and kindling, and we made a fire and enjoyed s'mores on our last night. The hosts gave us a property tour on a 4-wheeler which was so much fun, and we did 3 of the classes (jam, foodology, and cheese). I especially loved the jam class-- we left with 6 jars of amazing plum jam! The garden staff were very knowledgeable and passionate about sustainable agriculture, was so cool to see the veggie gardens. Boonville has an amazing restaurant scene so I highly suggest to check out the local town and wineries (pennyroyal and Navarro are our fave wineries, went to Stone and Ember and had the best pizza ever!) Overall, such a wonderful experience and I highly recommend to stay here.

A true wine country farm experience. Farmhouse atop hill overlooking vineyards. Rustic, Scenic, Spacious, Private. 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms. Huge living room with fireplace. 20 min to coast. Notes: We provide bottled water for drinking as our tap water is from a well and carries a sulphur smell especially in drought season. There is no harm to drinking or showering but we want to make sure incoming guests are aware ahead of time.
While other local listings offer small rooms, we offer a large house on several acres for similar pricing. And we've recently made all kinds of new upgrades listed below. Amazing vistas of the valley. Majestic old growth redwood forest on our property. We are nestled right between the oldest vineyard in the valley (Husch) and the newest (Angel Camp). And we are walking distance to the world famous Roederer Estate as well as Lazy Creek, Navarro Vineyards, Phillips Hill, Husch and Champs des Rêves. ...... We are a comfy modest farmhouse with some quaint features like a wood burning stove and vintage plate ware. But we also have modern amenities like wireless internet, flat screen TVs, space heaters, washer/dryer, microwave, gas stove, and coffee makers. And we have plenty of games like Nintendo 64, darts, cards, dice and board games. It's a farm not a hotel, so the property is kept pretty wild in its natural state. The grounds are lush and green in winter and spring, and dry and yellow summer and fall. Temperatures swing dramatically year round: chilly nights and warm days are common. The caretaker lives in a separate house on the property and is available to attend to your needs with enough notice. Wireless internet in the house. Cell service good for Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular. AT&T is spotty. Master Bedroom - 2 Queen size beds, 32" Flatscreen TV, cable + DVD player, large closet. Guest Bedroom - 1 Full size bed, large closet. Living Room - 1 Queen size pull-out bed, 46" Flatscreen TV, cable + DVD player, game table, video games, and fireplace. Air Mattresses in hallway cabinet. Plenty to do in the valley: wine tasting, romantic dining, cellar tours, brewery tours, hiking, biking, horseback riding, swimming, fishing (ocean/lakes/streams), kayaking, birdwatching, fruit picking, mushroom foraging, hunting, coastal drives, state parks, or just relaxing.

Comptche Cabin is close to Mendocino village - 20 minutes away, Anderson Valley wineries - 20 minutes, Montgomery Woods old growth redwood preserve - 30 minutes. This is an out-of-the way getaway in Mendocino County near the coast, yet sunny and warm. Enjoy wine tasting, hiking, and all the pleasures Mendocino village has to offer. Or just stay put for an incredibly relaxing stay. Gourmet kitchen, 3 bedrooms with queen beds, more. Good for couples and families (with kids).
Comptche Cabin is a 3 acre homestead. The main home has 2 bedrooms, 1.5 full baths (plus an outdoor shower!), great room, gourmet kitchen, screened porch, and patio with grill. Guest cottage with queen bed. Fenced, landscaped courtyard with roses and a fire ring. Forest with a hiking trail. Meadow with a badminton court. Private setting, ample off street parking.
Comptche is a quiet village tucked away from the tourist-laden coast. It features a grocery store-gas station combo, post office, Baptist church, school, and one stop sign!
  • I love the scenery, the outdoor shower, the open space for the kids to run around and the friendliness of the towns people.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Comptche in Matthew's cabin, I found it to be one of the best AirBnb's I've stayed in so far. Everything is clean and seemingly new, great amenities like electric blankets, fenced in back yard good for dogs, plenty of kitchen amenities for cooking, etc. Great communication and easy accommodating any requests. Thanks Matthew!

  • Such a tranquil and private place. It was so nice to get out of the city and be in nature for awhile. The place is FANTASTIC for kids and pets. The property is all fenced in and felt very safe for our toddler and infant. On clear nights, the stars are amazing! We will be back, I think!

    Janine2016-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin in the woods, a perfect getaway for our family which includes a toddler and a dog. The cabin is much better than the pictures show and the fenced in yard/rose garden is a retreat in itself. Has all the amenities needed in the kitchen, a cozy great room, warm electric fireplace for chilly mornings, and comfy beds. Had a wonderful stay!

    Jalyn2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Matthew’s place is lovely. The remote setting was close to where we needed to be. The kitchen is amazing! The back yard was beautiful. We recommend this place for a larger group and it is dog friendly so Fido can feel at home too.

  • Matt's home is the perfect place to get away from it all! It is about a 30 minute drive to Mendocino, which offers beautiful beaches and the closest big grocery store, although there is a little convenience store in Comptche. There is a huge fenced in front lawn area to kick the ball in or just sit and enjoy a glass of wine. Our dog and kids loved this! In the back, there is a fire pit and grill. No need to bring chairs, they have these as well out back and in front. Even when we had a few rainy days here, the enclosed front porch area kept us dry and allowed us to still enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. The outdoor shower was great for us to wash off in after spending some time at the beach. The inside of the home is well appointed and cozy, yet has plenty of space for sleeping and all of the windows provide plenty of natural light and views of the Beautiful garden and trees outside. There is a lovely garden on the property that Matt so graciously shared with us so we were able to have fresh asparagus with our dinner! The beds are comfortable, the indoor gas oven kept as cozy and warm, and all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! I can't say enough good things about this property! Thank you Matt!!!

  • Beautiful home with separate third bedroom cabin. I was surprised the home was bigger than the pictures seemed. The great room is well designed and comfortable. Comptche is in the country but only a 30 minute drive to Mendocino. There are wineries and restaurants in the area (try the Bewildered Pig!). We enjoyed our stay, visits to the surrounding area, and just hanging out at the house and garden. Very peaceful and beautiful.
