Rhiconich Holiday Rentals

Just booked in Rhiconich

We are just off the North Coast 500 route at Rhiconich, between Scourie and Durness, 4 miles from the fishing village of Kinlochbervie. We are surrounded by hills, mountains, rivers and lochs and only a ten to twenty minute drive from amazing beaches. The house is a 2 hour drive from Inverness and 1hr15 from Ullapool not allowing for photo stops! Breakfasts are freshly cooked and home baking awaits your arrival.Ideally located for exploring the north west corner of Scotland.
Room 1 has a king sized bed with ensuite shower room. We are ideally situated for walking, fishing and water based breaks. Guided walks and fishing available by arrangement. Fishing permits for local lochs and rivers ( salmon and trout) can be arranged as can the hire of equipment and fishing tackle. You can walk out directly from the house and the long distance walk goes almost past our door. There is direct access from the house to the loch for canoes. There is a restaurant and bar within walking distance at Rhiconich. We are a ten to twenty minute drive from stunning beaches. There is a good choice of restaurants within a 30 minute drive, transport can be organised by prior arrangement. Exploring the North Coast 500 route has to be one of the most scenic drives and our house is in a super stopover spot.
We are really lucky to live in the North West Highland where people know their neighbours, locals are friendly and welcoming ( just let them pass you on the single track!). It is a sparsely populated area which allows you to recharge your batteries. There are nearby beaches at Oldshoremore about a 15 minute drive and Sandwood about a 20 minute drive to the end of the path then a good hike! Balnakeil is about 25 minutes North. We are surrounded by a variety of walks from a gentle strolls along the River Laxford to Munros.
  • Susan really lives up to her Super host title, with a capital S. She is a very kind, considerate and friendly girl who made us feel welcome in her lovely home and shared her knowledge of the area and local restaurants. She provided lovely home baking and went out her way to cater for my gluten intolerance. Would definitely book again and recommend to everyone

  • We arrived at Ardbeg B&B after a long and exhausting hike, cold and wet and tired. Susan welcomed us with offers of warm drinks and cake and a brilliant smile! The setting is stunningly beautiful. The en suite room is incredibly comfortable and lovely, with many thoughtful details. There is a nicely furnished guest lounge with an expansive view. Breakfast was bountiful and delicious. Susan is a wonderful host, so friendly, knowledgeable, and generous. We felt like cherished friends.

  • I had a lovely stay with Susan in Riconich. Her welcome was outstanding and she gave me lots of advice and ideas about what to do locally. Ardbeg House is very comfortable, very well-located just off the A838, and has eating places nearby. Breakfasts were a highlight, with the porridge especially recommended. I am already planning my next visit!

Sleeps seven people with three bedrooms, is a fully equipped self catering cottage and also has wi fi. If you need to get away for peace and tranquility this is the place with a cosy fire every night. Our cottage is on the famous North Coast 500 route . Also great for surfers , cyclists and hill walkers.
  • Location, location, location....if you're looking to spend some outdoor time in an amazing corner of the world, Lindsay's cottage is a perfect choice. The surrounds of Oldshoremore and it's beaches, proximity to the Sandwood Bay walk, and views of the Atlantic make this cottage a very special place indeed. Just remember to take your groceries and provisions with you, as it is fairly remote...but that means no loud neighbors, except for the West Highland cows and sheep!! :o)

    Debi2017-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really lovely time. The cottage is lovely with incredible views of the beach and surrounding area. The cottage was snug and warm when we arrived. Really great bedrooms, nice and spacious and a snug living area with lovely wood burning stove. It's a great location to visit the North west and we had glorious bright days, beach walking and exploring with a visit to Cocoa Mountain for hot chocolate! Lindsay was really helpful and was at the end of the phone if we needed any assistance. Would recommend this lovely getaway and we will definitely be back. Thank you.

  • Really impressed with both the quality and location of this gorgeous wee croft. It was perfect for our needs offering a calm and relaxing environment for our break. Oldshoremore beach is just down the hill from the croft with beautiful views across the Minch with the Northern tip of Harris in view on a clear day. Plenty of other beaches nearby to visit and easy to moderate walks in plentiful supply. The croft itself was very clean, comfortable and warm once you got the fire going. Although we didn't really need them, there was plenty of electric heaters also. The hot water pressure and the shower could be temperamental at times but it wasn't a big issue and to be expected when you're almost at the most northerly tip of mainland Scotland! Kitchen had everything we needed to cook for us both throughout our stay and the Spar in Kinlochnervie had a surprisingly good selection, it had everything we needed to do a curry from scratch which both surprised and impressed us. The neighbours too were lovely. They're driveway shares a common track with the croft so we were careful to give them plenty of room to get their car in and out as it can be tight. Perfect accommodation and location for a relaxing break with lots of garden space to sit out and enjoy the stunning views. We hope to visit again.

    Liz2017-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Oldshoremore is a really great place to relax at the sea, in the northern Highlands and a base to explore the beautiful North. There are wonderful sandy beaches in the surroundings, the Oldshoremore Beach is reachable in a 15 min. walk. You have a very nice view from the cottage down to the bay. The cottage offers everything you need, unfortunately we had a bad smell in the kitchen, coming from the floor. Owner planned renovation after our departure. At all time we stayed in contact with Lindsay and received quick responses. For our discomfort she invited us for lunch.

    Anke2017-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Oldshoremore is absolutely beautiful and the cottage is perfect. There are other beaches nearby and Durness for a rainy day. Our kids loved the beaches and the cottage had plenty of room to play outside. The kitchen was well equipped and Lindsay's info file was really helpful. Fully recommend.

Modernised Shepherd's House with superb Mountain Views. Recently renovated but retaining its original character, the cottage is compact, well maintained and comfortably furnished.
Located only 11 miles from the small crofting village of Durness, this unspoilt corner of Scotland offers a wide range of activities. This is golden eagle and red deer territory and there are more often than not opportunities to spot some of the areas rare and varied wildlife from outside the front door of the house. The house is not centrally heated. It has a large number of electric oil radiators and fan heaters, which easily provide enough heat. However there is also considerable warmth generated by the log burning stove in the two downstairs rooms. Utility Room: Large fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, storage space for wellies and coats. Another room, can be used as a bedroom (double sofabed). Access to outside deck. Outside: The cottage has a small fenced garden at the front of the house. Its rear garden is the hills of Sutherland and you can wander freely in any direction that takes your fancy. The road is nearby so please mind children and animals are kept safe. From the rear their is easy access to wooden deck should the sun be shining in that direction.Parking outside also available. Other: Sitting Room: Log /coal burning fire (wood provided, can buy coal locally) futon/sofa bed, 2 big comfortable chairs, TV satellite, DVD, video, Large selection of books, games and films to watch. Great views out of front of house.
  • A wonderfull place in a wonderull region! We had the chance to have a perfect sunny weather during our 5 days stay in Carbreck House. A cosy and warmy place in a midle of nowhere with amazing landscape and extraordinay pedistrian walks near the sea or in the mountains... Furthermore our hostress have done her best for a warm welcome in Carbreck House

    Romain2016-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Carbreck is a really nice, warm and homely cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped and there are nice and comfy beds. The house is clean and cosy. The area is really beautiful. Carbreck is quite remote, but that is one off the best things. You are completely in the middle of Highland nature. The neighbours are Highland sheeps :-) Durness can be reached by car in 15 minutes. Durness has a gas station and a supermarket and one or two restaurants. Are you looking for a Highland getaway? Stop searching! In the area there are a couple of hiking trails. There all very beautiful, but we can really recommend the "Kyle of Durness" Trail. If you are looking for a great place with lots of trails in the neighborhood, Carbreck is the place. Owner Gillie is really nice and helpful. She responded really quick. We had a great time and i am sure we will come back for another visit!

    Gertjan2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Gillian is very friendly, helpful and answer all your questions. The cottage is adorable. You will feel like home immediately. Suited in a scenery as from a picture book of the Highlands with a fantastic view to the mountains. The area is a lovely place for hikers. There is only one negative point to mention: During the weekends some rich and brainless idiots with their racing cars abuse the small roads as theirs private racing track.

Polin Beach House is positioned on the hill overlooking spectacular Polin Beach. The house is decorated to a high standard in pastel colours with a nautical touch. Very homely and welcoming. We have something to suit all holiday makers from fishing for salmon or trout, hill walking, Fionaven, Arkle and Stack or just exploring our beaches not forgetting Sandwood Beach. Pony trekking, kayaking and sea angling are also worth a go. Locally caught seafood is served at our Hotels and Restaurants.
The house is situated 3 miles from the fishing village of Kinlochbervie just of the NC500 route.
  • A beautiful beach house in one of the prettiest corners of Scotland - picture perfect beaches and rocklands to explore right outside the door. And if the weather is not great, the house is as cosy as it gets, with a warm oven, fully-equipped kitchen, games, etc. Jane was a super friendly and very helpful host, and her husband even drove after us with jackets that we had forgotten - thanks a lot again! Highly recommended.

We are on the North Coast 500 route, near Handa island (a famous bird reserve) and beautiful mountains like Ben Stack, Arkle, Quinag and more. The ambiance of the north-west coast of Scotland is what brings people here. If you love open spaces, fresh air and spectacular views, you'll love where we are! The cost is £85 per night for single occupancy and £120 per night for two people sharing. To see more pics of our rooms, please go to scourielodge website.
Aurora watchers are especially welcome in the winter months. Scourie has a wonderful view point looking due north, and we offer very late breakfasts if you've had a long night out! ;)

  • It was a pleasure to stay at Elisabeth's place for a couple of days. Everything has gone beyond our expectations. The surroundings of the Lodge offer stunning views on the Scottish countryside and on the sea. Nice walks starts from the village. The whole Lodge including the bedroom and the bathroom, is lovely, well maintained, comfortable and clean. Communication with Elisabeth was effective regarding the organization of our stay but also friendly and enthusiastic. I would definitely recommend to anyone to stay at the Scourie Lodge.

    Scourie Lodge B&B - Hope
    4 reviews
Cnoclochan is a detached house set in its own grounds on a hillside overlooking the North West Highland village of Scourie. It has panoramic views of the surrounding hills and over the beautiful Scourie Bay out to Handa Island. Sleeping up to seven, Cnoclochan is a great base for exploring this amazing part of Scotland.
Cnoclochan is a detached house set in its own grounds on a hillside overlooking the North West Highland village of Scourie. It has panoramic views of the surrounding hills and over the beautiful Scourie Bay out to Handa Island. There are three bedrooms sleeping six, plus a single sofa bed and extra single mattress. There is one bathroom (with shower) and the master bedroom has en suite facilities. The single beds in the larger twin can be zipped and joined to form a kingsize double. There is a well equipped dining kitchen with views on to the village crofts and hills beyond. The utility room contains the washing machine, freezer and spare sink. The main room of the house is the large lounge with dining area (dining table will seat 8) which enjoys the aforementioned spectacular sea views over Handa. The lounge contains a log fire, well stocked bookcases (including plenty of board games and DVDs) and a TV/DVD player. This room has a feature wall with a huge map of North Scotland made up from OS maps. Outside, there is an enclosed garden area and a small copse of native trees, with the immaculately maintained (though infrequently used) football/shinty pitch and enclosed children’s play area, a minute's walk away. A footpath gives easy access from the house to the beach and village centre, both around a ten minute walk. For bird and wildlife lovers there is a viewing hut looking over the bay. The village centre has a general store (which includes an off licence and post office), a hotel with bar and an outdoor/fishing shop which also has 24 hour petrol pumps. Trout fishing licences for the local lochs can be purchased here.
Scourie is situated in the North West Scotland Geo Park, described as “one of geology’s holy places”. Knochan Crag Visitor Centre explains the area’s geological significance. Ancient caves near Inchnadamph are worth a visit as well as Smoo cave near Durness. The area is famous for its fishing; brown trout in the hill lochs (permits can be obtained locally), mackerel and pollack can be caught from seashore and boat. Boats can be launched from Scourie harbour and the bay is good for canoeing and windsurfing. The beach is safe for children to play on. Exhilarating hill walks in the nearby mountains include Ben Stack, Quinag, Suilven, Arkle, Stac Pollaidh and up to the highest waterfall in Britain. There are magnificent white sandy beaches to explore up the West Coast, including Sandwood Bay and Oldshoremore, on the north around Durness and southwards near Stoer and Lochinver. The area is also popular amongst bird watchers; Handa Island with its small ferry crossing offers a great day out and the chance to see amongst others, puffins, guillemots and skuas. Buzzards and eagles are seen amongst the hills and red deer, otters, pine martens and seals are amongst the local wildlife. Wild deer can graze close to the house.
  • Martin's house is very nice, spacious and well equipped. Magnificent view of the Bay of Scourie. Show morning and evening with the young deers! 3 days spent in his house were a real pleasure ! Many and very nice ballads (walks) possible, bay of scourie, Tarbet, sandwood bay, old man of Stoer etc. FYI, the small Spar store remains open until 7PM.

  • Cnoclochlan is a great place to stay when walking around the northern coast of Scotland. The house is very clean, well equipped, a short walk from the village and the view on the loch is just amazing.

    Audrey2017-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Set in beautiful country, Martin's place was perfect for our west-highlands tour. We saw several lovely groups of deer out the kitchen window and were blessed with perfect weather. The fire more than adequately warmed the whole house on the cold October nights, and we particularly appreciated the great selection of books!

    Annie2016-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Pat provided all the relevant information in advance of our stay. Scourie is north of Ullapool and close to some dramatic scenery, in a less touristy area. We enjoyed our time there and at Pat's house very much. There were only three of us, including a baby, but the house has 3 double bedrooms.

    Kerry2016-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay with beautiful views. We had deer in the garden one evening! The house is spacious and well equipped, perfect for a family or several couples. Martin gave us plenty of good information and instructions before our arrival which made it very easy.

  • Stunning cottage. Stunning location. Absolutely fantastic trip. We arrived after dark to be greeted by a cosy and warm cottage that had everything we could've possibly asked for to make our stay enjoyable. As soon it was light, we were up and out of bed to watch the sunrise over the kyle. I cannot recommend this place enough. We'll definitely be back fir longer next time.

  • We spent a lovely long weekend away in a beautiful place surrounded by such lovely scenery. The cottage was beautiful and Roz was super friendly when we met her. We even managed to see the northern lights on the last night at balnakiel beach. We would definetly come back again. Watch out for the cows though, we had a few get stuck in the garden!

    Harry2015-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We just spent 2 nights at this wonderful house and don't have a single complaint. We were greeted upon arrival by Roz who showed us around the place. She was very accommodating with out arrival and departure times which was really nice. Sadly we had terrible weather but this didn't bother us too much as we hung out at the cottage and took in the amazing view! I highly recommend this place for an unforgettable getaway!

  • Beautiful place, very comfortable, stunning view. Extremely windy in February. I suggest parking behind the house if your car is small.

    Julian2017-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house is lovely and well presented. I would not say it was a 'luxury' property more a 'cosy cottage'. The property is extremely clean, the views and location fantastic and it is a good base to explore the local area. The wood burner makes for a cosy atmosphere as you watch the weather draw in. For a lower price I would gladly return.

    Laura2016-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cottage exactly as described. Beautiful and warm with stunning views

    Lynda2016-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a brilliant time we had at Shore Cottage. It was absolutely lovely and superbly kitted out. The underfloor heating was a treat and the whole experience was very welcoming. We will be coming back and would recommend this wonderful home to anyone wanting to truly get away in total comfort in totally beautiful surroundings.

    nathan2016-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • A modern, cosy property in a stunning location. It most definitely is a luxury home and was spotless and well-equipped. We had all we required for the duration of our stay and received a warm welcome from Roz, the lady who looks after the house. Our only niggle was the description mentions en-suite facilities. Both the shower room and bathroom are separate to the bedrooms and there is only one shower for the whole property.

  • We would highly recommend staying with Pauline. The room was immaculate, the bed very comfortable and the views from the house were spectacular. Pauline made us feel very welcome. We regretted only having one night in the area. The meal at the Kylesku hotel was fabulous and only a short drive from Paulines place.

A modern, cozy little holiday house with an artistic but rustic flair to it. A garden with patio and a sauna makes this the perfect place for singles, couples and small families. The beach, a loch and a golf course are only minutes away. It is situated right in Balnakeil Craft Village with its galleries, shops and the chocolate "factory" Cocoa Mountain. The garden is sourrounded by a high fence that gives you absolute privacy. Perfect to relax and to just be yourself.
The place has a unique modern but comfortable feeling to it. Its great to explore nature in summer and perfect to relax and calm down in winter. It has two bedrooms, one with a doublebed and one with a bunk bed. I also have a hairdressing and massage studio only meters away from the holiday house, so its the perfect place to treat yourself
The holiday house is right in the middle of Balnakeil Craft Village, a small community of galleries, craft shops and more. There are artists, a potter, a chocolatier, a massage therapis and haidresser. There is a high fence around the property, so you will have absolute privacy. Beaches, a loch, a golf course and beautiful hills are all around you.
  • Phil's place is very cute and cozy. He was outside to greet us when we arrived, and was friendly and accommodating.

  • We loved our trip up to Durness and was perfect to have a cosy refuge from the wild weather. The place was perfect for our family of four and we enjoyed being able to cook a meal and enjoy a wine.

    Sandra2016-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • My Girlfriend and I had a fantastic time staying in Phil's holiday home. It has a really nice, cosy feel, being made from wood which looks great. Has all the essentials for cooking food, 2 speperate bedrooms and a nice living room space with dining table. Phil met us on arrival and also checked half way through our stay that everything was okay. Lovely location right in the centre of the Balnakeil Craft Village. Would recommend as a great place to stay in Durness area.

  • We had a cracking time, the house is lovely and the surrounding area was amazing. The sauna worked great and we had a nice relaxing time. It was a great size for myself, my partner, and my 4 year-old. I hope we can come back again soon!

    Francie2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was very easy to arrange and to get in to the property. The location was excellent, very near a beautiful beach. We enjoyed the dvd collection. It was clean and tidy and had oil, pepper etc for us to cook with.

    Frances2016-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Philipp was a great host who made us feel very welcome. He was very flexible about our arrival time and I had good contact with him by email and phone. The holiday house was accurately described and is ideal for couples or families with young children, as the children would love the bunk beds in the second room. He also offered advice on places to go and we visited Smoo Cave on his recommendation and loved it. The house is set in a craft village with many interesting shops to visit around the site. A firm favourite is the Chocolate shop which has delicious chocolate and Hot chocolate voted best ever tasted by my friends! He was very responsive to any suggestions and we had an enjoyable stay.

Newton Lodge, Kylesku is a luxury B&B, set amidst stunning scenery in the Scottish Highlands. We offer bed and breakfast with a difference. All our rooms are en-suite and guests and have their own key to come and go at leisure. This listing is for a double en-suite room with a view over the loch, a selection of tea or coffee and a cooked breakfast.
Our quality accommodation was purpose built to be a four star small hotel. Now run as a B&B, guests enjoy the privacy and comfort of a quality hotel but at a lower cost. The lounge and conservatory overlook small islands in Loch Glencoul and you will be able to watch the seals that come ashore to bask in the sun and give birth to their pups in June.
Kylesku occupies a central position on the northwest highland coastal route (NC500). Sutherland has three coasts and Kylesku is well situated to explore each of them. A big advantage is the ability to pick the best of the weather especially if there is an east/west slit. The north coast extends from Strathy and Tongue to Durness and Cape Wrath. The west coast extends from from Cape Wrath to Lochinver and the east coast extends from Helmsdale to Dornoch. At Kylesku a beautiful curving road bridge now crosses the mouth of two lochs. Overlooking the old ferry slipway in the village is the excellent Kylesku Hotel. Boat trips operate from here in the summer to Britain's highest waterfall at the head of Loch Glencoul, the 650 foot Eas-Coul-Aulin waterfall.
  • Really friendly and welcoming with great views if the lake and seals. Yes seals close by.

Outside the house, you can have a little walk around, clear your mind or go for inspiration. Inside the house, you can feel the warmth of human heart. Freda is a super nice, friendly, helpful and professional host. Her breakfast was super delicious. Never miss the chance to have a look at the wild seals with her telescope

  • We stayed overnight at Angela's place in Durness. It is easy to find and right in the middle of this tiny town across the street from the grocery and up from a restaurant. The house was clean and well appointed. The only disappointment was that there was no internet access. Angela directed us down the road to a bar where we were able to get on line. We would recommend to others.

My place is close to great views and restaurants and dining. You’ll love my place because of the views and the outdoors space. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids). It is a quiet and safe village.
  • Morag gave us a warm welcome when we arrived, gave a short but comprehensive explanation of the facilities and enquired about breakfast requirements. She gave us advice on things that we wanted to do and told us of other local places of interest which resulted in a varied and interesting week. I strongly recommend 23 Ochinard place for B & B.

  • Morag was very kind and had great information on things to do on the next part of our trip and about the history of northern Scotland.

  • We stayed with Morag for two nights. The room was very comfortable and very clean, as well as the bathroom. We could chose whatever we liked for breakfast and it was really good (and a lot, no need for lunch ^^) Morag was very welcoming and always ready for a chat, we really enjoyed that. Definitely a place we'd recommend and return to!

A furnished Bell Tent sitting in a field of rare wild flowers, and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The experience of staying here on this beautifully unique location, is what could be called " Wild Glamping". Its just 6 miles off the main North Coast 500 Route!
This is ideal for couples who fancy living on the wild side, but with a few creature comforts. A large bell tent, which is 5 metres in diameter. There is plenty of warm bedding included, with hot water bottles too. There is no shower on site yet, ( or running water!) but we do have a wooden compost toilet hut near to your tent ( and public toilets just a few hundred yards away). The tent is surprisingly warm in summer. A basic easy to use camp stove is supplied, with some other luxuries, like a picnic hamper to take to the beach with tartan rugs to sit on. Candles galore and a stove outside to cook meals on or boil water for tea. We supply you with shop bought water, but to stalk up, there are public toilets just at the bottom of the wee road 200 yards away, and of coarse theres the local shop in Kinlochbervie. We do not supply towels. Theres a fire pit and little wooden seats. The stars can get pretty amazing here in Oldshoremore. There will be sheep and Highland Cows in the surrounding fields, and the big beach is only a few minutes walk from your tent. You can see the Atlantic Ocean from the tent and if you walk up the field a little where the fire pit is, you'll get a great view of the beach and out to the huge ocean. The weather may be rough, or you might be lucky and enjoy one of our warm summers days, but nothing detracts from the spirit and beauty of this place.
This is a crofting neighbourhood with farmers and animals here and there. Highland Cows look terribly cute, especially the calves. It can be tempting to go up close to take pictures, but please know that mothers with calves can loose their temper if they feel their calves are in danger - so its always best to admire them from a distance when they have calves.
  • Vivien has created something really great here; the tent provides you with all you need for a stay in peaceful and beautiful surroundings. We had a great evening sat in front of the fire with a bottle of wine looking at the stunning view after going for some food at the nearby Rhiconich Hotel (15 minute drive). This place is definitely worth a visit - the tent and surroundings are stunning; good luck with your venture.

    Ross2017-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend a stay in the bell tent. The tent was beautifully presented and with many thoughtful touches to ensure every comfort. The setting was beautiful and peaceful, only a moment's walk to the beach. Thanks Vivien!

  • This is a beautiful space in a beautiful part of the country. Vivien was there to greet us and we knew where she was if we had any problems. The tent was fab, warm and well furnished. The fire pit and stove were great. The eco toilet was handy too!! All the little touches made this a really great experience. We will absolutely be back.

    Faith2017-07-30T00:00:00Z

  • WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! Vivien has done an excellent job with this bell tent. Super clean and cosy. Perfect for a wee couple getaway in the highlands! The tent had everything we needed and Vivien was just a knock on the door away if we needed anything else. The beach (3min walk) was spectacular, beautifully big and white with surprisingly few tourists. Making the whole experience a lot more special! We will be back!

The lodge has been lovingly refurbished throughout and is furnished to a high standard, with every room exquisitely designed & fashionably styled, beautifully synthesising the original features and unique character of this beautiful old stone-built house with contemporary comfort, decor & soft furnishings. The diverse breakfast menu features Scottish, Continental & Korean dishes, using locally sourced fresh ingredients and home cooked food where possible. Evening meals are also available upon request at time of booking. We offer discounts for single occupancy and stays of two nights or more.
Durness is the most north-westerly village on mainland UK, near to Cape Wrath and situated within the first Geo Park in Scotland, so has a wealth of stunning mountain, moor and coastal scenery to feast on and a wealth of activities to enjoy. The village is a friendly, peaceful, safe & welcoming place, with two shops, a post office, petrol pumps, a hotel, several bars and cafes to try.

The house is a 2 hour drive from Inverness and 1hr15 from Ullapool not allowing for photo stops! Breakfasts are freshly cooked and home baking awaits your arrival.Ideally located for exploring the north west corner of Scotland.
Room 2 has an ensuite shower room and king sized bed. We are ideally situated for walking, fishing and water based breaks. Guided walks and fishing available by arrangement. There is a restaurant and bar within walking distance and a good choice of restaurants within a thirty minute drive. We are a ten to twenty minute drive from stunning beaches. We are really lucky to live in the north west Highlands where people know their neighbours and the locals are friendly and welcoming (just let them pass you on the single track roads!) It is a beautiful and sparsely populated area where you can recharge your batteries. We are not far from a range of beaches such as Oldshoremore and Sandwood to the west and Balnakeil to the North. We are surrounded by walks of all levels from gentle strolls along the River Laxford to Munros.
  • Our stay at Susan's was wonderful :) She truly is the perfect host, making sure we had a restaurant booked for dinner when we arrived, and even providing homemade gluten free bread and cakes for breakfast! The location is beautiful, and very well located if you are doing the NC500 route. It is also very close to Oldshoremore Beach, which is stunning. The room itself was very clean, confortable and warm (which can be important on cold Scottish nights). I would definitely stay here again! Thank you again Susan!

  • Brilliant stay! Susan was really helpful and friendly and gave us great recommendations. We had good fun meeting locals in the pub...all round a great experience and would definitely stay again when travelling through these parts

  • Staying at Susan's is a treat. She puts a lot of effort into her hosting and certainly puts her guests first. The location is excellent, near Handa island, Sandwood Bay and Oldshoremore, to say nothing of the mountains. As an Airbnb host, Susan has great attention to detail and we left convinced that we would love to return to the area and Ardbeg BnB.

  • We had an excellent stay at Susan's. Our room was very inviting, comfortable and had everything we needed. The view was amazing and the breakfast was delicious. It was the perfect stop over between Durness and Ullapool for those doing the North Coast 500. We would highly recommend a night here!

  • Susan is a wonderful nice host! The rooms are quite new and perfectly clean! Nice Pubs nearby! Great Breakfast! Highly recommended! We will definetly come back one time!

  • From the warm welcome and homemade cake that greets you on arrival, this is a brilliant B&B from check in to check out. The house is beautifully situated overlooking a loch on the CoastRoad 500, the rooms are warm and well presented and the food is exceptional. Susan is a great host - warm, considerate and welcoming. This place comes very highly recommended.

  • Excellent location to stay on the NC500 Our room was immaculate and cozy. The new bathroom was beautiful and meticulously clean. The lounge is large and made us feel at home. The view is beautiful. Susan is an excellent host and an even better cook! Breakfast was over the top!!! Susan is quite the cook :)) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • Susan is a lovely hostess and her home is very comfortable in a great location. Breakfast was perfectly cooked every day, with good choice and quality. Susan recommended good local restaurants and was also more than happy to provide plates etc for eating a take-away. Can't wait to go back.

  • Nedd is a great place to stay as it is remote and truly beautiful. The road driving to and from Nedd is one of the best and most scenic ones ever!! The cottage was sufficient and it was pretty lovely lighting the fires to keep warm in the evenings.

  • Comfortable and cosy, Derek's cottage is a perfect base for exploring this most beautiful part of Scotland with its stunning coast, islands, lochs, rivers and hills. Don't expect to get anywhere fast along the scenic single-track road but the excellent Drumbeg stores in only a couple of miles up the road and Nedd is within easy reach of mountains (we went up Quinag – stunning views), great river walks at Lochinver and Inverkirkaig, coastal walks, white sandy beaches and wonderful Handa island. We had a lovely week away from it all – no internet in the cottage and very patchy mobile phone reception in the area.

    Philip2016-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying in Derek's croft house. It was cosy, clean and practical. High quality linen on the beds gave us all a good nights sleep. We loved the location in the quiet village of Nedd. The kids could play safely outside as we hardly saw another car on the single track road. The drive to Nedd is amazing. We enjoyed a walk to bone caves near Inchnadamph, ate exceptionally high quality seafood in the Kylesku Hotel and enjoyed exploring the beautiful Achmelvich Beach. A visit to Drumbeg is a must. We loved Drumbeg Stores with its selection of food, arts and crafts and interesting books about the area. We had a lovely hot chocolate in the Secret Tea Garden of The Little Soap and Candle Company and picked up a couple of presents which were made there. All in all Derek's cottage is a magic place to stay and explore the wonders of Assynt.

    Moragh2016-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • Nedd is a fabulous place; remote and magical. We loved looking out of the bedroom window, watching the sheep walking up and down the road. Derek was extremely flexible and accommodating around our dates requests. We would love to come back.

    Bertrand2017-07-28T00:00:00Z

Ruddyglow Park is a small, five star, country house, bed and breakfast, nestled between the foothills of Quinag and the edge of Loch Assynt in the beautiful North-West Highlands of Scotland. We offer outstanding personal service and luxurious accommodation all set against a backdrop of antique furniture, original paintings and individually designed rooms. A much loved 5 acre garden, full of well established trees and shrubs, surrounds the house giving a feel of extreme privacy but also incredible space, peace and tranquility. We also work with nearby estates and hunting lodges to provide up-market sporting stays. For our sporting guests a drying room, rod room, secure gun cabinet and freezer are available. Your room, the Rose Room is situated in the main house and benefits from an ensuite bathroom and a stunning view of the Loch. We have award wining restaurants, cosy pubs, stunning beaches, mountains just waiting to be climbed, a local leisure centre, art galleries, and many more delightful shops just on our door step. Please note, in some seasons we offer reduced rates for 2 nights or more, please get in touch for details. • We spent one night at Olive's place. Olive and her husband are very nice hosts. We had some sat nav issues and missed there place at first but Olive has been very helpful and we managed to find the place quite easily while following her directions on the phone. We had a good night sleep and a very good breakfast. Nothing was missing, we had what we needed. I recommend their place.

  • A large, elegant lodge house, with a variety of antique furniture and lots of dead animals, i.e. hunting trophies (some of which may have been bagged by Andy, the helpful and chatty owner who is an avid hunter), which is set in a secluded part of the country and accessed via some incredibly scenic routes. Luckily, decent eateries exist only a few miles away (though the hosts also sometimes offer dinners at the lodge). Nice cooked breakfast with eggs from Andy's chickens.

    Jana2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a treat to stay at the lodge. Very interesting home, welcoming hosts and a full on Scottish breakfast - loved it! The sitting room is set up for guests to use, and we had a wonderful time meeting the other guests and chatting late into the night.

  • Seafield is a lovely house in a great location and is equipped with everything you might need and more besides. Kitchen well stocked with useful herbs, oil, tea etc. and there are laminated maps and OS maps which are really handy. Fabulous for walkers, nature lovers, bird watchers, pie eaters (Lochinver Larder - best pies on the planet!). Thoroughly recommend Inver Cruises (Keith and Douglas) for a brilliant sea trip from Lochinver.

  • The cottage was very comfortable, cosy and well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. The sea views from the cottage garden were spectacular. Ideal location for a totally relaxing holiday away from the frantic pace of everyday life!

  • We spent a week in Xavier's place and had an absolutely amazing time. the location is stunning and the cottage is lovely and very well equipped. You could just sit outside and admire the views for hours. Do bring groceries, as although you'll find the most basic supplies at the camp-site shop a couple of miles from the cottage, the nearest shops are 20 minutes away on the winding single-lane road in Lochinver. We would have liked the cottage to be a little cleaner and make sure you get precise directions, as the post-code we were given leads to a different house. But if you want to witness amazing nature and sceneries: go.

    Thill2016-06-13T00:00:00Z
  • We only contacted our host two or three times prior and during our stay and he always responded promptly. If you love great scenery, amazing mountain views, fantastic beaches and remoteness then this cottage is for you. We enjoyed our stay in the area. The boys saw red deer, stoats, highland cattle, a golden eagle and a seal in Lochinver harbour. You need to plan when staying somewhere this remote as there isn't a supermarket just round the corner the nearest is a 70 mile round trip. We had a really good time and were surprised by the north west of Scotland, it was meant to be a cycling and mountain holiday but fantastic weather and brilliant beaches at Achmelvich turned it into a beach holiday. That said we will definitely be heading back to the area again.

A modern house in an ancient landscape. In a country of beautiful landscape, Assynt in the far north west highlands stands out for its extraordinary geology, mountains, lochs and coastline. With some of the oldest rock in the world (3.5Bn years old), numerous remains of iron age settlements, abundant wild life, wild terrain and sporting activities, there is much to see and experience in this special corner of Scotland. It is remote yet accessible, being a 2 hour drive from Inverness through wonderful scenery and generally empty roads. So much so, that at certain times of the year, visitors are more likely to see red deer than other cars. The house is newly built, of solid (cross lateral) timber construction allowing for a very open and distinctive interior. With under floor heating from an air source heat pump and wood burning stove and high standards of insulation it is warm and welcoming throughout the year. The guest bedroom has its own door to the outside and ensuite shower and toilet. Guests are free to use the upstairs ‘gallery’ sitting room with spectacular views of nearby sea and more distant mountains. This is where breakfast will be served as shown in one of the images. If you decide to have an evening meal with us (optional) it will be within the kitchen/living room. We are vegetarian so this is the food we serve, but we can assure you of its variety and freshness. We can provide a meal for our guests provided it fits in with other commitments we might have, so if you would like to join us for a meal on one of your evenings please enquire in advance what is possible at the time of your visit. We charge £15 pounds per person for a three course meal (not including wine or beer), you can bring what you like to drink or make a financial contribution to drinks we provide. Being a new house, the garden is in a state of development and there are still some residual building materials around. The house is accessed up a track through a surrounding field. There are several houses and crofts nearby, a beach with easy access to the sea and many places to walk and explore. The nearest village is Lochinver (8 miles away) where there is a selection of shops, a petrol station, restaurants and places to visit. It is possible to get to the house by public transport from Inverness, but this is likely to take a day’s travel. To explore the area and for ease of travel it is recommended guests come by car. Inverness is best reached by either train or plane, and we recommend if coming from the south of England, to use the Caledonian sleeper service that arrives in Inverness at 8.30 am. There is a Budget car rental depot five minutes from the station. We can provide further advice on routes etc if required. Assynt is often described as being in the ‘wild north west’. This is an apt description of the landscape and at times the weather. Strangely this part of Scotland often has drier weather than places further south. Being on the coast the weather is changeable with often dramatic skies and ever changing light. Highly photogenic and at times it is extraordinary to experience such variety in a short space of time. Finally, another advantage of being on the coast with wind (of varying force) there are few midges – a real bonus in the height of the summer.
  • Andrea and Nigel proved to be wonderful hosts. They are warm, intelligent and is a pleasure talking with them. The house is beautiful and Nigel cooked WONDERFUL cookies for our breakfast. We will never forget you guys!

    Marco2013-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location with views of the ocean, we were spoilt from the moment we arrived. The food prepared was lovely and I've never had such beautiful breakfast at a B&B. Both Andrea and Nigel were lovely and the conversation was both stimulating and entertaining! The room was clean and modern as was the ensuite, and provided a good deal of privacy with it being isolated on the lower floor. Would stay again definitely. Great value.

    Robert2013-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea and Nigel's house is located in a truly beautiful area and has a stunning view from the breakfast table. The bedroom has a very comfortable bed and good bathroom, although wifi was weak downstairs. It doesn't have a TV or sitting area so you need to share Andrea and Nigel's lounge area if you want these facilities. We had a delicious meal with our hosts one night and drove the 8 winding miles into the village the second night, where the food was not quite as good. The house has an interesting design which is environmentally friendly. There are a lot of walks that can be done within a reasonable driving distance. Andrea provided an excellent breakfast.

  • We had a lovely time staying at Andrea's gorgeous home in Clashnessie. We were made to feel very welcome, and comfortable and breakfast was delicious! The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable and the shower was one of the best we had! Thank you so much!

    Sarah2015-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had high expectations of Andrea and Nigel's house - and we weren't disappointed. The room was lovely, the shower invigorating, and having our own private entrance was a bonus. Eating breakfast whilst looking out at the amazing view was a great start to the day and Nigel's evening meals were delicious. Andrea recommend the walk along the ridge from the waterfall, down to the gorgeous Clashnessie beach and it was definitely worth doing for the views. At the end of four days we really felt that we'd made new friends, and that included Bruno the dog! Thanks Andrea and Nigel - we would 100% recommend a stay with you - we'll be back!

    Ros2014-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea & Nigel's Clashnessie home is a haven in the rugged North north west. We received a very warm welcome & our stay was relaxing & reinvigorating. Beautifully presented breakfasts with the panoramic views were a treat. We thoroughly recommend a stay in Clashnessie.

  • We stayed for four fantastic nights by Andrea and Nigel and we felt very welcome. The landscape is beautiful. The house is very modern and the use of wood gives a pleasurable natural-feeling. The room is very nice decorated. The shower is really great. Andrea offers a wide choice of breakfast products with a high quality. We had twice time dinner with Andrea and Nigel and he cooked a delicious three-course menu. We enjoyed their company very much. We highly recommend to stay here and we will come back on our next trip to Scotland!

Award-winning tiny house is located the most northerly stretch of NC500, Scotland's answer to Route 66. Stay in this partly off-grid, wooden house on wheels with its breathtaking view, very close to the beach. Lots of other things to explore nearby.
The tiny house movement began in the USA as people explore the future possibilities of living in compact, low energy spaces. This tiny house was built by British trail-blazer Mark Burton (http://www.custombuiltsurrey.com/one-bed-house-on-wheels.html), who won an award from the Independent Newspaper, and has featured in numerous "lifestyle" TV programmes including Grand Designs. The tiny house in Clashnessie is the first to go largely off-grid, depending on mains supply for water and high-output electric appliances only. Supplementary power comes from photovoltaic panels and cylinder gas, and there is a composting lavatory. But this is not rough-living, and offers a shower, a fabulous king-size bed, a fridge - more or less all you need in a house, except space. The furniture has been chosen to a high design standard; this is emphatically not a caravan!
We are located on the most northerly stretch of NC500, 'Scotland's answer to Route 66' and voted one of the six most scenic coastal roads in the world by Traveller Magazine. (http://www.northcoast500.com/home.aspx). Clashnessie itself is quite simply a magic place, with a large sweep of safe sandy beach that is never busy, a fascinating coastline and rugged hinterland. The patient observer can see seals, otters, dolphins, porpoises, and sometimes orcas, as well as varied bird-life. Red deer are as common as rabbits - a nuisance to agriculture, but splendid beasts nonetheless. This is Scotland's "wild west", lying north of the Hebrides. It is one of the dark places of Europe, perfect for astronomers. The area, Assynt, is also world famous for its geology, and the tiny house sits on some of the oldest rock in the world. Just round the coast is the spectacular sea-stack, the Old Man of Stoer. The ring of local mountains - Quinag, Canisp, Suilven, Cul More and Beag, Ben More, and Stac Pollaidh, stand up dramatically on the landscape. No Munros among them except Ben More Assynt, but challenging day-climbs for all that. Brown trout abound in local lochs, and salmon fishing can be arranged by permit. There are numerous places suitable for sailing, kayaking and scuba-diving, and the "main" road, scenic, undulating single-track with passing places, makes for interesting cycling and motor-cycling. Botanists also enjoy the area for its flora including varieties of wild orchid. The nearest pub and shop are in Drumbeg, 5 miles to the north, and the hub of local activity is the scenic fishing village of Lochinver, 9 miles south, which has shops, a varied offer of social events, and 9 food outlets from a sandwich bar to a Michelin-starred restaurant. The North Assynt Estate in which the crofting "township" of Clashnessie is situated, celebrates twenty years now since its famously unprecedented tenant buy-out, since when, in an area notorious for the Highland Clearances and absentee landlords, the people finally own the land. The Gaelic language is also enjoying a revival in the area. And yes, there are midges, but we cope with them.
  • The tiny house is in a gorgeous remote setting. I'm in my 60s but had no trouble climbing the ladder to the loft! Pamela graciously advised us on walking possibilities and loaned the use of her map.

    Betsy2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland (imho)! We (my boyfriend and I) explored the lakes close by and the old man of stoer and loved it! The tiny house itself offers a completely unique experience and is just too cute - and don't forget the great view (especially from the "bedroom" window). Even though it is, as the name suggests, tiny, you will find literally everything you need inside :) Pamela was a great host who did everything in her power to make our stay as great as possible!

    Vera2014-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We spent four nights in the Tiny House, it was our first time living in such a small place. The Tiny House was well equipped and we had everything we needed. It is an ideal starting point for daily hikes as the surrounding landscape is very impressive. Pamela is a great host, she explained us everything when we arrived, recommended some nice hikes and offered help in any case. We had to spent one whole day in the house due to the Scottish weather, it was cozy and comfortable.

    Martin2015-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly out of this world - the tiny house is amazing, one of the comfiest, most well-designed and cosy places I've stayed. It's perched on top of a hill, overlooking a beach and surrounded by rolling hills (which were filled with lambs when I was there). Waking up at dawn with the sun coming over the mountains was an amazing experience. The host, Pamela, was very helpful, staying in contact before the trip and making sure that everything went well when I was there (as well as being very nice into the bargain!). The scenery in the area is unbelievable, with a beautiful waterfall, good walking/running routes and the beach, all within a stone's throw of the Tiny House. Highly recommended!

  • We absolutely loved staying in the Tiny House, it was a great experience. The location was stunning and we couldn't wait to wake up the following day to enjoy the seaview from the window. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Pamela made us feel at home immediately and was very knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommended!

    Sergio2015-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed a whole week. It was gorgeous! The surroundings are stunning as is the view from the tiny house. Pam gave us a very good introduction, recommended very good walks and was very helpful with a lot of things during the week. If you don't have problems to live on a very small surface you will enjoy a lot!

    Johanna2015-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at the Tiny house. It has everything you need and it is very cozy. The area is fantastic, with a beautiful beach and a waterfall. Pamela was a good host. She explained everything and was available throughout our stay! Thanks!

  • We had a lovely stay in the tiny house for two nights. Pamela was very welcoming and helpful - even running us to Lochinver for a special occasion! The tiny house is very cute, the bed is exceptional! The scenery nearby is beautiful and we spent our time walking / on the beach / visiting nearby craft stores.

The property itself is lovely, quiet with beautiful views and everything you need for a relaxing break. As Justin advises, be sure to stock up on groceries in Ullapool or Inverness and be aware that it is remote. If that is what you are looking for though, it is the perfect holiday destination and we would definitely go back.

The Byre is an old converted cow shed which has been in the family for 3 generations. recently newly renovated. its on a working croft and looks out to sea. There has been a new sun room added which has a log burining stove.
This Byre has 40 years of highland history, it was once many moons ago a cow shed which was owned by my husbands granny and grandpa.
There are lots of beautiful beaches and amazing scenery near by, also there is a small local shop which is situated within a campsite (3 miles away). The local village is 8 miles away, with many great places to eat and drink. The local people are extremely friendly and know how to make tourists feel welcome.
  • Great little cottage for a couple. Amazing views, lots of walks near by. Clean and high standard of finish in the cottage. Would defiantly stay again.

Susan's B&B was lovely and she was a brilliant host. We were greeted with tea & cakes on arrival and enjoyed a cooked breakfast in the morning before we left. It was an ideal stop for our NC500 trip.

Lovely cottage in absolutely beautiful location - the view from the garden down to the beach is pretty special. Very cosy but everything felt new and clean, so overall definitely a great find!
