Places to stay in Smith Island
Home with private dock perfect for sitting back and relaxing as you watch the sunrise and sunset on the horizon...its absolutely breathtaking (and maybe do a little fishing while you're relaxing)! There are no beaches on the Island; however, some of the wharfs have ladders to allow people to jump in, swim a little, and climb up on the wharf.
!
Very quiet neighborhood. The residents on the Island total about 53. The main source of income is crabbing and oystering. Also, many of the women pick crabs and sell the meat to people who visit the Island, and to restaurants on the main land (Crisfield, and beyond). The people are very friendly and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
  • Enjoyed our stay in Tylerton on Smith Island. Beautiful sunsets, abundant wildlife and gracious islander hospitality made for an unforgettable adventure. Beware of the biting flies! If you go on a weekend note that the restaurants close very early.

  • We absolutely loved staying at Glorias! The house itself is spacious and clean, and the kitchen comes fully equipped with all tools necessary to cook your own meals, which we greatly appreciated! There is also a working DVD player, so you could bring a couple of movies with you, which I would recommend because there truly is virtually no service. We had phones on Verizon and AT&T, and neither had much luck getting any service at all. We also really enjoyed the games in the house, including Uno and Phase 10, which we played whenever we had some downtime. As for things to do around the island, I would absolutely recommend going to see Dennis’ Smith Island art gallery across the street. Dennis was such a friendly and interesting person to talk to, and his artwork is beautiful! We also had Eddie take us to see the Pelicans and to Ewell for the day, both of which were wonderful! This place is great for a weekend getaway, just plan to be truly off the grid!

  • We brought our boat across the Chesapeake Bay to stay overnight at Priscilla's Place. What a wonderful adventure! The home is super clean and comfortable. It was just a short walk to the public wharf and general store. We were met at the wharf by family members, and given a short golf cart ride to the house. Eddie suggested that we visit Dennis in the charming old home across the street from Priscilla's Place for some beautiful and reasonably priced paintings, some done on crab pot lids. We are so glad we did, as we picked up two one-of-a-kind works of art. Be prepared for no cell phone service, unless you have AT&T, Verizon phones had none. Bring a hair dryer if you use one and coffee, some reviews said coffee was in the cottage but we didn't have any there. We will definitely visit again, it was a great place to relax and enjoy the step back in time.

  • This is in one of the most unique locations on the east coast, definitely worth a visit - especially if you enjoy fishing or birding. The house was very clean and spacious. Gloria and her family members on the island (Joan and Eddie) were wonderful hosts and were very easy to communicate with. Tylerton, and the rest of Smith Island, is very charming and the scenery can't be beat! Definitely take the opportunity to take a tour of Pelican Island with Eddie...it is an unforgettable experience. Also be sure to have the homemade seafood dinner that Joan makes - it was absolutely delicious! Be sure to ask for the "crazy potatoes" - another unforgettable experience.

  • Priscilla’s Place was lovely, comfortable and charming. Our hosts were fantastic! They were so hospitable and friendly and helpful. We took Eddie’s boat tour to the Pelican Rookery and he also ferried us to Ewell and it was a major high point of our trip. It was a beautiful life-changing and spiritual experience. Smith Island is a special place and everyone we met was awesome. And the cakes! - Smith Island that our hostess Joan made and the crab cakes - that we bought at the Drum Point Market and the ones we had at the Harborside Restaurant in Ewell we’re so delicious! Can not wait to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

  • Cute island and good people! Wonderful adventure and can’t wait to go back.

  • A great place to stay, very clean, nice size home, plenty of room. People are very friendly and helpful you won't be disappointed

    George2018-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a special experience! Staying in Tylerton is something I will never forget. This house allowed us to meet the neighbors and feel included in a place that is so unique. Joan made us delicious meals and Eddie took us to the pelican island and Ewell. The living room is quite large, there are a number of ac's, a well-equipped kitchen, and a good size tv. But staying here is not about the house, it's about having a chance to be part of a close-knit, spiritual, authentic community, where it's connection, not material things that count. I feel privileged to have spent time here.

Light comes in through 19th century windows to create a nostalgic feeling of a forgotten time. Original wood floors and plaster walls evoke a timeless beauty. Views of the Chesapeake Bay can be seen from "Miriam's Room". We are LGBTQ friendly, and vegan owned and operated. Aram offers coffee roasting demo's, and you get to go home with freshly roasted beans!
The kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, glassware, and has a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee-maker, French Press, and blender. We are vegan owned and operated, so please refrain from bringing animal products into the space! The bathroom is located on the first floor and has a tub, shower, toilet and sink. Upstairs, "Miriam's Room" has distant views of the Chesapeake Bay and offers one double bed, closet space, and bureau. The "Meditation Room" next door, offers subdued lighting, two, single day-beds, a bureau, and a comfy chair. Aram's roasting room is downstairs, adjacent to the kitchen, and guests can experience an actual coffee roasting during their visit!
The three villages of Smith Island, Ewell, Rhodes Point, and Tylerton, are walkable. However, Tylerton is only accessible by boat either from Crisfield or from Ewell. Arrangements for a visit to Tylerton can be made. Bicycles and golf-carts are sometimes are helpful, and available for rental. There are birds to watch, sunsets and sunrises to experience, and solitude if you need it! Arrangements can also be made for trips to go arrowhead and sea-glass hunting. Please bring your boots and bug spray--the tides can be high, and the bugs can be out!
  • Aram is a phenomenal host! He really cares about his guests. He is a great communicator- responds quickly. We learned so much about history and everyday lives of the locals from Aram and his friend, Dory. Three of us stayed at his comfortable, earthy and historical farmhouse filled with artwork. Outside of his farmhouse, chickens, a rescued Canada goose named Bosco and a group of Mallards greeted us every morning and evening. Aram even showed us how he roasted coffee beans in his coffee studio- that was so awesome! Do not leave Smith Island without drinking his coffee! We definitely will return!

    Susan2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Aram’s place is cozy, homey, and full of artistic flourishes. He had bikes and kayaks for us to adventure out on, and was warm and communicative. It was the perfect birthday vacation for my husband 💜 We loved every moment of it!

    Allyshia2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really great time! Aram is a fantastic host, his home is very welcoming, and the people of Smith Island were very nice.

    Natalie2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The coffee roaster's house was a serene piece of paradise. It was a nice escape from the bustle of the main land. Aram is a wonderful host that is quick to make you feel apart of the island. He left kayaks for us to explore with and there is a pool at the house to do a quick dip to cool off. This is the place for you to book if you are looking for nature and a unique getaway to never forget. Thank you, Aram, for sharing such an amazing part of your life with us!

    Caroline2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Coffee Roaster’s house is truly a unique and creative experience with a wonderful host on an island out of time. Great location, very clean, lovely views and walking distance to everywhere.

  • The home, Aram, and the local people were wonderful. It was wonderful feeling at ease and invited to get to know the island. The home was comfortable, clean and very affordable. The pool and access to kayaks and French press were great, as well as the many tips to ensure we had an incredible time. It was nice being immersed in nature, surrounded by the beauty of the bay, a unique culture Thanks once again, Aram! Hopefully we’ll be back in the fall!

  • Aram's coffee house is a bastion of comfort in the hidden Bay jewel in the rough that is Smith Island. Cool A/C bedrooms, friendly guidance and fellowship, and of course delicious coffee. Smith Island is the definition of a small (island) town, but Aram made us feel right at home like we were briefly a part of the community!

Levering Creek Cottage is a waterfront property with deep water dock and steps away from basically everything.

Smith Island is known for one of the worlds best sunsets not to be missed. The Island has 195 full time residents so when your out and about you will notice people saying hi or waving ....chances are they are local and they will be happy to answer questions or help if you need it
  • Super quiet.

  • Sparkling clean cottage with lots of amenities and special touches for guests including bikes, kayaks, and freshly prepared seafood meals. Janet is a great host with helpful tips for out of town guests. The peaceful cottage setting is great for a quiet getaway. We’d definitely go again.

  • Quaint, cozy, comfy house. Quiet town. It was nice to have the canoe and bikes to get around. Everything you would expect is in the house. They are on island time so check/call for closing times and the ferry schedule changed and was not as posted, so call before you go. Bring the bug repellant. Best crab cakes anywhere! Two houses from the Cake bakery! Cakes are delicious. Great relaxing time.

  • We had a lovely stay at the levering creek cottage on Smith Island. The place is right next to the water, where we enjoyed eating and relaxing next to in the afternoon and evenings. The bikes were great for getting around and we drove around the entire island a few times. It's a wonderful house on Smith Island and well worth staying at.

    Bryan2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Janet was super friendly and helpful, providing us plenty of information before our arrival to make sure our street on the island went smoothly. She picked us up from the ferry landing point and gave us a ride to her wonderful cottage. It's the perfect place to stay with a small group: spacious, nicely decorated, plenty of amenities (full cooking equipment, bikes, kayak/canoe, ...). We really enjoyed our stay!

    Stijn2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • The Levering Creek Cottage was perfect. Clean, nice appointed, well kept. Our host met us at the boat and gave us a tour of the island then took us to our cottage. Wonderful hospitality. We had use of the bikes, kayak and canoe. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own food. A lovely place.

    Eric2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place with a view of the water. Very cute inside and Janet arranged for us to have freshly steamed crabs delivered to our house for dinner. We loved it!

The Quietness of the island and the beautiful scenery around the waters edge. You will hear the birds and the waves and the wind. The island is void of loud noises, mostly nature. The home was built around 1860 and fully restored 2008. its perfectly imperfect! We are happy to do basic shopping for you and your guests if needed at the local store. call for details.
Located on the very quaint island of Tylerton, which makes up one of the 3 communities of Smith Island, MD . Enjoy the streets where there are no cars or trucks just the foot paths of the islanders. This home overlooks the harbor . it is my personal home decorated with Island memories of my family that has lived on Smith Island for 400 years. ( founded 1608) I am a 16th generation native, the flow of the house leaves you with a feeling of completeness. Come in your own boat and tie up in front of the home and walk right up to the house. A fisherman's dream get away. A fully appointed kitchen and utensils make the cooking experience even better. The people, the seafood, is what draws people to DRUM POINT MARKET. You will find unique foods and their crab cakes are world renowned!!! The store has everything needed, except alcohol, leave the food home and get your supplies there. the island is very small so biking and, walking are best on the pebble roads. Make sure you contact me personally so that i can customize your trip to make it the best ever!! MOST ASKED QUESTIONS: Is there a grocery store? YES, its the only store on the island, DRUM POINT MARKET, but has everything and i mean everything, produce, seafood, canned goods, meats, cheeses etc.. It does NOT sell alcohol. Contrary to listings on the internet, The store hours are ONLY 10-3 monday through Saturday. Where can we swim? The county dock is the best place to swim. It has ladders and the water is about 15 foot deep. Is there church services on Sunday? Yes we are a Methodist community, but our services are compared to a non denominational service, ALL are welcome. Do I have bikes or Kayaks? No and No, BUT Crisfield Kayaks will deliver kayaks to the boat for a fee. As for bikes, the island is very small and can be walked around in 10 minutes. How far is the house from the Ferry or How do I get to the house? You are about 1 block from the main dock so usually walking is best. What time does the ferries LEAVE the island? 7am daily and then again at 3:30pm winter hours are subject to change Do I need to bring linens, towels etc.? No, I charge a cleaning fee to accommodate this need, pack light. Can I order seafood, more specifically oysters and crabs? Yes, please let me know upon your arrival to make the connection for you. Other questions, please ask anyone you see everyone is very willing to help you out, don't be shy!! Where is the WI FI password? its in the welcome book. Verizon is my provider and is not real great, usually you need to reboot daily. the modem is on the TV cabinet. Can we arrive in our own boat? Yes I have a private dock in the harbor approximately 100 feet from the house, there is no electric or water connections for the boat. Where do I catch the ferry . Capt Larry Lairds ferry boat is docked at THE END of main street in Crisfield. This area is called the depot. His boat is named the CAPT JASON II. his phone number is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Where do I leave my car? Ask Captain Larry for directions when you arrive
A tiny hamlet in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. a place to completely unwind and relax and breathe the fresh salt air...a place to just "get away from it all "
  • Great space to relax. Tylerton has a wonderful friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy.

  • Quaint Chesapeake island escape - this house is a gem! Duke is a gracious host and made us feel very welcome during our weekend getaway on Tylerton, Smith island. His home is beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. There is so much attention to detail, everything you need Is there. Be ready for a quiet stay with breathtaking views. Loads of boating, birding, fishing and kayaking opportunities, and if you’re lucky, you’ll meet some of the friendly locals. Visitor tips: 1. 2 nights is better than one, especially with the ferry schedules. 2. Make arrangements to have some steamed crabs delivered. 3. The crab cakes at Drum Point Market are the best you’ll ever have. 4. If you can, book a boat tour to see the pelican island

    Suzanne2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our group was five adult sea kayakers who went to Smith to paddle for a long weekend. The house really met all our needs. It was about 100 yards from the new and excellent kayak launch. The house is well-maintained and very clean. The space was more than adequate for our group of five. The screened in porch with lots of seating and a big table was a plus. The house has a large collection of very interesting (antique?) furniture and nautically-themed décor. Plenty of kitchen space with a big island for food prep. More than enough plates, silverware, cups, glasses, etc. The house had just about every type of cooking utensil and pot/pan that you could possibly need. This house is a fabulous base for exploring Smith Island. You should bring as much food for meals with you as you can. The prices at Drum Pt Market are very high and the store's hours are limited. That said, make sure you get one of the market's crab cakes - fabulous! Our group would stay here again in a minute.

  • Duke’s place is awesome! Not only is it in a beautiful historic setting that is quiet and friendly, the house is cozy, comfortable, and well-appointed. Somewhat “off the grid” - made an ideal balance of adventure and quiet leisure for us. This was a perfect place for a 3-day family getaway. Highlights were: - friendliness and hospitality of everyone we met on the island, starting with Duke’s mom to greet us and show us the house....she also makes a fantastic Smith Island cake that you can order! It was phenomenal. - exploring the beautiful wildlife, whether by foot, kayak, or boat. The pelican tour is a stunning must-see. The Chesapeake truly is a treasure. - fresh local-caught crabs every day! We got crab cakes at the store around the corner, soft shell crab on neighboring island Ewell, and local waterman’s daily catch of a dozen crabs for $20, steamed by his wife, and delivered to our door via golf cart - getting to know the local history and culture. The museum on Ewell is wonderful. We really enjoyed talking with folks wherever we went, to really understand the local lifestyle, economy, and community. It gave me a deeper knowledge and respect for families who make a living on the Chesapeake. - very accommodating house: fully stocked kitchen, many comfy spots to sit, including screened porch (so thankful, because bugs), really nice bedrooms and bathrooms.... enough to bring back extra family next time! Duke’s guidance was invaluable for a memorable family vacation!

    Kelly2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • Duke's house is beautiful, modern and always very clean. The best place to stay in Smith Island!

  • Smith Island is a peaceful, relaxing and serene place to unwind from the stresses of city life. We loved all of the kind people! Dwight's home is beautiful. It feels so welcoming, and the decoration is amazing. The porch is the perfect place to hang around with friends or family. Be sure to book a boat tour with Eddie. We asked Eddie to take us to Ewell for lunch followed by a 2nd boat tour to Pelican Island. You won't want to miss Pelican Island - it's a must do for nature and bird lovers! Dwight will also order fresh steamed crabs for you, but you need to let him know ahead of time. They are delivered right to the door! Drum Market is a short walk from the house. It's a grocery store, gift shop, bakery and restaurant all in one! The crab cakes are the best we've ever had! Thanks for a wonderful stay Dwight! We plan to return next year :-)

This is a finished, nice, private basement area. It includes your living space, bedroom and bathroom (shower, no bathtub). Stairs lead up to the main entrance of the house. Laundry and kitchen use is intentionally not part of the Airbnb listing. This house is heading toward not using any plastic and not generating trash, please make all efforts to be environmentally conscious. Guests can recycle but have to remove their own non-recyclable trash.
You can live in this space for months; you can arrange all details to your liking. When Moonpie, the dog and other people move around upstairs, you will hear it, but that is all.
Our street has no street lights and I love it that way.
  • Jenone has been an excellent host in all respects. I've really enjoyedy my stay here. The location is excellent, rural and quiet and conveniently close to shopping, stores and restaurants. For my next visit, I would certainly choose this place again.

  • One of the nicest houses in town with everything you need to get away from it all. Well stocked kitchen for preparing meals. Perfect view of all the boats entering and exiting Ewell harbor. We enjoyed the Island Belle II ferry transit and used the house kayaks to explore the waterfront.

    Louise2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great. The neighbors are very hospitable and sold us some soft crabs, as well as gave us some dead ones to use as bait. The house has an updated beach-cottage vibe and was super clean. The dock and screened-in gazeebo were excellent features. We can't wait to come back again next year!

    Shawn2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the owners seasonal home and you feel like you're their guest. Beautiful hardwood, tasteful furnishings, and stocked kitchen which is helpful because the quiet, remote island is limited in goods (bring cash, credit cards only in 2 places). We had steamed crabs from the neighbors, canoed in the creek behind their home, and enjoyed the friendliness of those riding their bikes and golf carts. My 7 year old son wants to go back. This place is new and I expect you'll be getting more guests! thanks for giving us a great stay as part of our relaxing, scenic, and enjoyable trip to Smith Island!

    Anthony2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for quiet getaway. Very comfortable home with bikes, canoe/kayaks and screened gazebo on the water. Very hospitable hosts - we had a great stay!

    Aaron2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Walt + Kim's place could not be located in a better spot. Their screened gazebo is perfection. If you're arriving by your own boat, their house is super easy to find. If you're kayakers and are wanting to explore the marsh + islands, their house is in a great starting + ending location. If you're considering a trip to Smith Island, you already know the limits of amenities there. Pack lightly and plan to walk; golf carts + bikes rent at a 2.5 hour max - there are no overnight rentals. We travelled from Point Lookout and didn't plan our exit very well. That ferry leaves the island at 2:30 daily so we decided to depart a day early rather than try to fill half a day on the other end with our stuff in tow. We'll plan better next time - and will definitely be back! Thanks for a great time, Walt + Kim!

  • Evelyn is a thoughtful host with a lovely home. Communication was clear, accurate and timely. There were no unwanted surprises. It was quiet and clean. We were in town to visit my sick mom. Evelyn’s place was just the right distance and provided a comfy bed, super clean bathroom and extra special homemade bread for breakfast. Don’t be worried about the size, it has everything you need and she is extremely kind and thoughtful. We’ll go back for sure!

  • Eclectic antique home a short drive from the water. Excellent host with two cats.

  • There are those times when you just feel like you're staying with an old friend even though you've never met, and our stay with Evelyn was exactly that. Really appreciated her great hospitality and excellent suggestions on what to do in the area - she even loaned me a shirt to wear for a paddling outing! Thanks to Evelyn and her other guest's suggestion, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner at an out of the way tiny restaurant that we never would have found on our own. Our room was very comfortable, the evening conversations on the front porch most memorable, and Evelyn even had some light breakfast fare for us in the morning. This really is what airbnb is all about. Thank you, Evelyn, for such a pleasant visit - we hope to see you again!

  • Evelyn is an absolutely wonderful host in this charming house. The town of Crisfield is small and cozy, and the house is large and spacious. Evelyn was a great person to talk to for local recommendations, and was happy to show us her amazing artwork. Would highly recommend.

  • Crisfield is a unique and enjoyable little town that is worth a visit. Evelyn's is located just a mile or so from the town in a quiet neighborhood with wonderful Victorian homes dotting everywhere. The porch is perfect for chatting, and reading. Her craftmanship and artistry is remarkable. Expect to climb some stairs when you stay...and the room was quickly cooled so don't worry about hot summer nights. Try some of her amazing baked goods!!

    Daniel2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Evelyn had a beautiful place and we felt like home while we were there :) when you’d like a place to just relax and get away I’d say yes to this place!

Our place is close to Saint Mary's historic city, Pt. Lookout State Park, Calvert Cliffs. Concerts at the college in the summer on Friday's. Inquire first on pets before booking, 25lb max on 1 or 2 combined together. Our cottage is completely disinfected after each guest, including the key.

What makes the Lazy Bear Cottage unique is how quiet the area is, no speed boats, no skiers, just pure quietness. So if you want to get away and relax, this is the place to stay. What we love about Moll Cove, every morning, 8am, the National Anthem's music will wave over the water, and evenings, you will hear taps play, signaling that the evening is coming to an end. Herons landing on our pier at times.
  • Absolutely beautiful place. Highly recommend to anybody that just wants to escape. Thank you Nancy & Rick

  • Fantastic spot and a hidden jewel of southern Maryland! While St. Mary’s may not be the most obvious vacation destination, don’t let that keep you from visiting. This cottage offers everything you need to relax and enjoy some time off.

  • The location is beautiful. It is also very quiet and peaceful. If you’re looking for a place to unwind this is it. The hosts are very hospitable and friendly. This place is definitely worth taking a visit!

  • What a hidden gem within an hour drive of DC. The cottage is so thoughtfully designed and equipped. It’s a perfect escape for someone looking for some peace and quiet. The view from the cottage and dock is awesome. You can’t beat the value of this property. The hosts are extremely friendly and accommodating. Thank you so much, I look forward to visiting again one day.

  • The tiny house is just as described. Cute, beautiful location, and with everything that you need for a weekend away, including a break from the Internet. I hope to come back!

  • We loved our stay at the Lazy Bear Cottage! It was the perfect size for a weekend trip as a couple -- very cute and cozy -- and the setting is beautiful. Lovely to be able to roll out of bed and watch the sunrise on the water. Nancy and her husband were super welcoming and friendly. Would definitely stay here again!

    Shannon2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage is so adorable and has absolutely everything you’d need! The only thing you don’t have is WiFi, but when you’re escaping to relax, it’s awesome to not be able to be disturbed! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 It’s so quiet and we loved sleeping with the windows open and listening to the outdoors. Being right on the water is AMAZING and there’s bound to be a blue heron almost anytime you step outside! Also, the kayak is one of the best parts about staying here. You get to see schools of fish, blue herons, seagulls, bald eagles and other critters and you can paddle all the way out to Saint Mary’s River which touches the Potomac! So much fun to stay here! Nancy and her husband are great hosts and we love staying with them! This was our second time. They’re super helpful too! One night I needed some milk for a recipe I was making and Nancy brought it over herself! Awesome location and great hosts!

Our home is close to great views, restaurants and shopping, the beach and family-friendly activities. You’ll love the sunsets over the water and viewing working boats in the harbor. Great for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids). Beach is walking distance and the boat launch is 1/2 mile away. New library, playground, fishing, crabbing and gorgeous sunsets are all close by. Owners live only 15 minutes away for anything you may need.
This home has been remodeled completely. Ceiling fans and lights in each bedroom and living room. New Heat Pump and kitchen is modern.
Our home is close to the municipal park, local beach, boat harbor with boat launch, local hospital, library, McDonalds, China Wok, Food Lion, Valero station and American Legion Post 16.

  • Great accommodations - plenty of towels and linens! Perfect location. While my husband fished in his tournament, I took advantage of the nice drive to Chincoteague beach. My husband was already talking about staying again for his next fishing adventure.

  • Noah and Carolyn's place was perfect for our weekend getaway. It was on a quiet street, just a short walk away from the beach. It had everything we needed - including snacks! Check-in and out were very easy with the lock box, and I didn't have any issues, but they were very responsive, so I trust they would have been handled quickly. They even offered to mail me an item I left behind, so overall, one of my best airbnb experiences!

A beautiful completely renovated single level cottage decorated in soothing beach hues, perfect for wheelchair guests with its ramped entry. Home has an open floor plan with great room, TV. Wifi and open kitchen with a massive island. The cottage has two bedrooms and a bath with roll-in shower. A kids retreat features two ship wheel beds and is fully stocked with games and toys. The large master bedroom features a queen bed and lovely views of the woods. Our only beach is assessable by kayak.
Coastal chic cottage with modern conveniences is tucked down a tiny single lane close to the school (and playground) and tucked behind the owners home. Sleeps 6, pets considered but additional daily fee applies.
Ewell is the largest town on Smith Island and is the town where the amenities are located, such as the museum, restaurants, playgrounds, and baseball field. We are also on the highest ground. We are located on Severn Road on a quiet lane.
  • Very nice and neat cottage. Great location and the use of kayaks is an extra plus! Everyone on the island is exceptional nice. Great place to get away for a day or two. Michele had someone meet us at the boat and escort us to the cottage. That was a very nice touch.

    Terry2019-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Smith Island and our stay at the hideaway! Everything was taken care of from the pick up and drop off at the dock, to the kayaks, life jackets, and go carts. The house is so cute and very clean. Definitely hope to return!

    Denise2018-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Grant's Hideaway is a wonderful retreat and is located very close to the two restaurants by the dock, museum, and Church. It is beautifully decorated and was perfect for our family. John and Pam, the Inn keepers, were so kind and responsive to us. They made sure our family had the bikes, kayaks, canoe, paddles and life vests we needed for our family adventures. They also made sure we had a map of the island, and contacts for all the adventures we were seeking. Thank you, Michele, Pam and John for the quality family getaway we hoped to enjoy.

    Tonya2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a true escape from stress! Everything is just as described and all information for the special charms the island has to offer was very clearly spelled out by our host before our visit so we had everything we needed to kick back and relax. A list of local resources was provided to take boat tours (We loved our tour with Wes), fresh steamed crabs, and delicious fresh baked Smith Island Cake (banana and chocolate peanut butter were both amazing!), as well as a golf cart for a low daily rental rate (request in advance). The house itself is well outfitted with all of the comforts of home, and very comfortable beds. We were a little worried that our children (7&9) would be a little bored, but they had a great time. They loved having some independence to roam and explore, as well as going crabbing and fishing off the docks, late night star gazing, and great playground about 50 yards from the house! This was our first of many trips to Smith Island, and this home was a wonderful place to spend it!

  • Denise definitely earns her super host title and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. This is our second stay with her. Her places are clean, well furnished and equipped and she is a first class lady and hostess! Saxis is a special place for her to share with you. Recommend to all.

    David2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The small town of Saxis is a hidden gem. Take a moment to slow down, unwind, turn off the screen, and just be a part of the quaint neighborhood, where everyone is nice, just like the good ole days! Denise's home is perfect....again! Always clean. Great communication. Can't wait to return!

  • lovely comfy cottage in an ideal setting. Breathtakingly beautiful sunset views from the edge of the island or a short walk down the lane. the island and surrounding marshes are great spots for connecting with friendly local folks (don’t miss Captain E’s Tikki Bar and Grill!) and spotting abundant birds and other wildlife. the host supplies coffee and tea but if you need anything more be sure to shop before you get to the island.

    Deborah2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in Denise’s home. Cozy, homey, and clean with everything you could need. Saxis is peaceful and beautiful and it’s a great jumping off point for a beach weekend in Chincoteague/Assateague.

    Alexander2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautifully clean and organized house, very good kitchen—easy to cook in. Saxis is both off the beaten track and very convenient for the beaches at Assateague and the towns and inlets of the Eastern Shore, I especially recommend the kayaking in Onancock and the Saxis Island museum. Denise was a great host, responded quickly to all my questions and knows a lot about the Saxis area.

The house is on a private lane within walking distance of the Nanticoke harbor. You can watch the wildlife from the upstairs, 700 square foot, recently renovated apartment and might see deer, turkeys, eagles, foxes and a large variety of songbirds. This is a great place to bring your kayaks, bicycles or boat. There are two harbors, five beaches, and a park in the area. No cleaning fee. Full kitchen. Coffee......
Depending on the time of your you will be able to hear the spring peepers, the whip-poor-will, owls, and all the other creatures that like to make some noise. I planted a butterfly garden and flowers for the hummingbirds, and you can sit on the back porch and watch. It is a great place to relax. The main room is large and has a king size bed, a sitting area, and a dining room table. The kitchen is fully equipped .
Saturdays big event is a visit to our local second-hand store.
  • I stayed at Waltraut's place over a holiday weekend, looking for a bit of peace and quiet. The apartment is lovely and quite cozy with a number of small touches throughout. It was exactly what I needed. I very much enjoyed reading and writing with a cup of tea, looking out over trees in the backyard. I brought groceries on my way and was pleased to find a well stocked kitchen that had everything I could need. I made my way over to Roaring Point Beach as well as Blackwater Wildlife Refuge and would highly recommend them both.

    Ashwin2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Waltraut's apartment is exactly as it looks in the photos. She has clearly given the space a personal touch, and we felt at home there. The home is very easy to find with Waltraut's directions. It is in a remote village, so bring adequate food/snacks with you, or be prepared to drive to Salisbury for most staples.

    Kathryn2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Just remote enough and just close enough. I enjoyed a relaxing, carefree few days in this adorable space. I had everything I needed to not have to leave. However, I did venture to Roaring Point and the beach was incredible! Clean, bordered by the state park on my side and long sight lines across the river. I would visit both again! If you need a moment to yourself, to unplug and unwind, you'll definitely be able to do it here.

    Angela2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our visit! The apartment is spacious and gets beautiful light. The views outside are gorgeous. We had everything we needed--the kitchen was especially well equipped. Would definitely return.

    Greg2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice and quite retreat! Very clean apartment, and great hospitality! I would like to stay here again the next time I am in this area!

    Alison2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Waltraut's apartment was great! The bed was huge and comfortable, and the living area had a lovely view over the backyard. We saw quite a number of different critters throughout our stay. Although the kitchen area is a bit small it is plenty capable, we cooked several delicious meals in the kitchen thanks to the included wares. Nanticoke was a neat little town and the beaches weren't crowded or noisy like most along the eastern shore. All in all we believe Waltraut's place is an excellent value and we wouldn't hesitate to stay with her again!

    Nate2019-09-24T00:00:00Z

The home has a ramp and the main level is wheelchair accessible to accommodate their youngest son and guests. The 3 bedroom, 2 full bath Cape Cod sleeps the most guests of any rental on the Island, up to 12. The coastal décor extends throughout the home. A large living room area, two dining spaces, back deck with chairs and an open floor plan welcomes guests.
The home is centrally located on a quiet lane in Ewell. It is close to everything and offers the perfect spot for kids to access the school playground and public library. The tiki hit (its BYOB) , restaurants, church, museum, and ballfield are also in close proximity.
Smith Island is a unique community and has no crime! It is home to approximately 200 residents, most earn their living crabbing. The Island is 4 square miles. Our only beach is accessible via kayak or boat. It cannot be accessed on foot. Residents are friendly and welcoming of visitors.
  • We had an enjoyable stay at Michelle’s House. The directions provided to catch the ferry were detailed and helpful, and the general instructions for what to expect on the island helped us to packed appropriately. We will return for a longer stay in the future!! Thanks

Our cozy studio apartment sets on the Patuxent River. With the perfect views of Myrtle Beach, Point Patient and Thomas Johnson Bridge. Relax watching the boats and birds or take a walk along the water for a lovely neighborhood to stroll for 2.5 miles. Your favorite moments may be when you wake to see the sun rise and again to see the orange sky set. Just over the bridge from the popular Solomon's Island which is full of fabulous restaurants, boat rentals, charter fishing and summer concerts.
Quaint neighborhood. Quiet and peaceful. Great place to get away from everyday life and just breathe. Can't beat the local blue crabs, rockfish and oysters. Solomon's Island has so many fabulous restaurants and you can see the island from our backyard. Be sure to visit these restaurants: * The Island Hideaway (we love the skinny fries, grilled blackened mahi mahi or grilled fish tacos * Lighthouse for rockfish anything lol, crab dip, crab cakes - they have great happy hour prices through the week * CD Cafe - love the salmon entrees (no outside seating) * Charles St. Brasserie (tapas, piano bar and more) - we have't been there but hear it's great! * The Pier - water view from 3 sides * Stoney's Kingfisher - I love the salad with fried goat cheese and Tom enjoys the Maryland crab soup and burger.
  • Very nice home away from home. I will definitely be back.

  • The place is perfect size for a place to relax and recharge! It was large enough for us two ladies to unpack, spread out a bit and not feel cramped!! It is 10 minutes from what feels like everything! Being on the water was beautiful and relaxing! The instructions for entry were spot on!! We would definitely stay with Tom and Michele again!

  • This has to be the most charming airbnb I’ve ever stayed in. The house has a great rustic feel with all the modern amenities. Denise was a total pro as a host, including helping us figure out how to get to the local beach and how to deal with hiccups in the wifi. Saxis is itself a hidden gem, and a great base of operations to access many of Eastern Shore VA’s wilderness areas. All we’ve been talking about since we’ve left is wanting to come back with friends to share the experience with. Thanks Denise!

  • Denise was so kind and helpful throughout the booking process. The home itself is nestled in a quiet community with lovely people. The home was clean and well maintained with plenty of rooms/space. The added touch of leaving the heater on so it would be warm when we arrived was perfect after a chilly drive over. It was a fantastic weekend and I will gladly book another reservation in this home again!

View seabirds and sunsets at Wellington House. A ground level, waterfront suite in Crisfield MD behind Small Boat Harbor. Tie your kayak, jet ski, or boat to our dock or drop crab traps for dinner on the patio. After a day on the water, enjoy an outside shower and a breathtaking Crisfield sunset, or use the available 2 bikes to tour Crisfield. Local boat ramp, Wellington Beach and library are a short stroll away. Enjoy the Chesapeake Bay the Crisfield way!
Our guest suite is cozy space with an open floor plan. There is a large rolling "barn door style" partition between the "queen bedroom" and the kitchen/eating area. The second bedroom has 2 single beds. This space is only meant for 4 people.
Wellington House is located on a quiet dead end street. Just a short walk from Small Boat Harbor, a working "waterman" harbor, where you can see the boats come and go. You can also see them bring in their catch.
  • Beautiful, immaculate, and comfortable little guest suite. The welcome extras were a delightful surprise. Gorgeous views were so relaxing.

  • Had a wonderful time at the Wellington House. The apartment was super clean and well supplied. Decorated so tastefully and it made you fell at home. The crabbing was great right off the pier. We will definitely come back.

    Berton Kris2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The home is, in my opinion more beautiful than the photos. The photos are accurate, but don't depict the sunny, airy quality. Super stylish. It is one floor with two separate bedrooms, a lovely kitchen and comfy eating area. Spotless clean. We spent virtually all our time outside. We put in our kayaks off the dock and just spent our days exploring Jane's Island. The sun sets over Jane's Island right in front of the house. It is very quiet and beautiful. Adam and Betsy were super prompt and responsive with communication. All questions were answered pretty instantly. Couldn't ask for better hosts. Crisfield is not a tourist hot spot, just sayin' but people were all very nice.

    Larisa2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing attention to detail and unbelievable pride in ownership. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Adam & Betsy’s. We arrived to a generous care package. Crabs were plentiful off the dock. The sunsets were stunning. Excellent, prompt communication with any questions or needs we had. These are thoughtful, mindful folks, truly consummate hosts. We couldn’t have had a better time and are already looking forward to returning next year.

Then there's the location and view-- right on the water, with an amazing dock to hang out on. And last but certainly not least are the thoughtful touches-- a fridge with breakfast items, fresh cookies, and even a home cooked dinner. Absolute perfection

  • Second weekend in a row staying here. Was supposed to have a work event nearby, but it was cancelled. I liked the spot so much, I came anyway and called it a vacation. Theresa and her family are very welcoming, and the place is beautiful and super-relaxing. Highly recommended.

  • Fantastic. Clean and quiet, great shower, view is amazing, the hospitality was over the top! Theresa and Kevin have thought of everything you might possibly need to have a comfortable stay (some of my favorites were heated bathroom floor, yoga mat, magazines, and lighted makeup mirror). Back next week again for work, and I can't wait.

Surrounded by water and with breathtaking views of wildlife and the sunset, Petite Maerin Cottage is the perfect spot for a weekend of relaxation, recreation and seafood on Smith Island, Maryland. The cottage sits 60 feet from the Chesapeake Bay.
The cottage features a welcoming front porch for sipping your morning coffee or enjoying a glass of wine while savoring the views of the Chesapeake Bay The central room of the cottage is a Great Room/.Dining Room/ Kitchenette. Adjacent to the Great Room is a cozy light filled living room with a comfy sofa with a bay view. Steps away from the living room is the Captain's Suite with a queen size bed and antique ship's dressing table. The second bedroom is the Boat Bedroom with two twin "speed boat" beds with running lights that were built by a boat builder in Cambridge, MD....all have water views. The cottage has a roomy bathroom with a footed tub and free-standing shower done in mermaids and sandcastles.
Twelve miles off Maryland's Eastern Shore, three small islands- collectively known as Smith Island- pepper the Chesapeake Bay. Home to the tiny villages of Ewell, Rhodes Point and Tylerton, the islands are eight miles long and four miles wide with fewer than 300 residents. Long visited by Native Americans, the tiny island of the Chesapeake were mapped and named by Captain John Smith in June 1608. The original settlers were from Cornwall via the mainland of Virginia and arrived in the late 17th century. The island's economy is based on harvesting the bountiful seafood of the bay.... crabs, oysters and rock fish and it is this endeavor that has preserved a way of life with little change for the last three centuries. The locals have an accent...a slight English lilt warmed by a southern drawl...often referred to as Tidewater English.
  • Quiet like I've never heard! Just the sound of the wind rustling in the reeds. Peace abounds here.

    Kathy2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful area. A unique experience with locals that are quite welcoming and helpful

    Dwight2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We decided to visit Smith Island as a quick, last-minute getaway from Washington, D.C. Mission accomplished! However, the trip required advance planning, which Cindy advised us on immediately upon booking. She offered to call and walk us through all the details, which was very helpful. Since there is limited cell phone service on the island, Cindy put us in touch with a colorful cast of islanders. We lined up a kayak from Billie, our meals (since restaurants close after lunch) from Sheila, and a boat tour with Barry before we arrived. We also packed all our own food and alcohol, since the island has limited options/is dry. Overall, we had a wonderful visit. Smith Island is a bit of a time warp, with a population and a shoreline that the community are fighting to preserve. Cindy's guest cottage is charming and well-appointed, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The neighbors looked after us, showing up with beach chairs, helping us dock our kayak, and even inviting us to a family Fourth of July gathering. We loved eating Sheila's dinners both nights on the dock with a glass of wine and exploring the islands with Barry. There is no real "beach" for sunbathing, but the dock is lovely and the waters are great for kayaking. This was a unique experience in a unique place.

    Katie2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very pleased with my stay at Cynthia’s. She went out of her way to make sure I knew what to expect in advance and covered every detail about getting to the island. Her home was cozy and charming. Highlights were dinner prepared by Sheila and an unforgettable boat tour with Mr. Barry. Would definitely recommend

    Linda2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time!

    Vicki2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • Charming house with great attention to detail and interior design. Highly recommend for a low key vacation.

    Jamie2018-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved every minute of our visit to Smith Island. Cindy was so helpful and informative. We followed all of her advice and had a wonderful weekend. The cottage is adorable. It is decorated with mermaids and nautical theme. It is clean and the bed we slept in was very comfortable, firm the way we like it and there were plenty of pillows. We took the ferry over on Friday at noon and had lunch at Bayside. We pretty much ate crab cakes, softshells and Smith Island cakes with every meal, and I recommend you do too! The crabs are fresh caught in the morning and the cakes are handmade with love. Sharon made our dinner Friday eve and Sheila cooked for us Sat eve. They delivered dinner to us at the cottage. Saturday afternoon we kayaked to Tylerton to have lunch at the Drumpoint Market. Again crabcakes and Smith Island cakes and delicious. There are also several delicious local side dishes served with the meals. We saw literally hundreds of egrets, herons (including tri-colored, night, little blue, little green & blue), pelicans and other cool water fowl. Our favorite hours were spent sitting on petite maerin's private dock watching the birds, the sunsets and just breathing. Smith Island is so quiet and peaceful and is the perfect place to get away from the hustle of everyday life. Arriving on Smith Island is like stepping back in time. If you are looking forward a relaxing peaceful get away with delicious fresh seafood and breathtaking scenery then go to Petite Maerin Cottage. Also be sure to go out on the boat with Barry. He has been a waterman on Smith Island for 60 years. He will tell you all about the island and will demonstrate what he does as a Smith Island waterman. Petite Maerin also has a lovely front porch for strumming guitar in the shade. We loved the entire experience from beginning to end and look forward to returning soon.

  • We stayed at the Mimosa Cottage for two weeks in November. The house is spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Dan was very easy to communicate with and answered all of our questions. I can highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Tangier!

  • Mimosa Cottage is a terrific place to stay on Tangier Island. It provided all the amenities you need to make your stay stress free and relaxing.

    Faye2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Dan’s place is an excellent base for a stay on Tangier. Fully equipped and very comfortable, it is clean and very functional. Dan is very responsive. Tangier is a world apart, and so do not expect the Ritz. But this is he second time we have stayed at Dan’s - each time as part of a sailing cruise on the Bay - and I would not hesitate to choose it again. Dan is very responsive and accommodating. Rent a golf cart to help get around and experience the whole island - it is a very special place with warm and welcoming people, peaceful and tranquil.

  • We had a fantastic stay at Mimosa Cottage. The house fit 6 of us comfily and is very clean with all the amenities you could need. Dan is great host, was lucky to meet him a couple of times and he helped out with a couple of items we had forgotten. The island is a great place to explore, although only small there are lots of things to see and do. Everyone is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. You must see this place while you still can and definitely stay at Dan's place!

  • We loved the house, and the island. It's gorgeous, and the people are lovely. 7 of us were in the house, with more than enough room. Can't wait to get back!

  • Tangier might be one of Virginia’s best kept secrets! The Mimosa Cottage is a wonderful way to enjoy the island - it’s centralized location, beaches within walking distance, and family-friendly accommodations lend to its reputation as one of the finest getaways on the island. I would recommend this home to anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of mainland Virginia!

Where is Tylerton, Smith Island? Just a short ferry ride from Crisfield, Maryland- travel back in time with your family and friends to this quaint and blissfully quiet traditional waterman's village. Enjoy kayaking, boating, hiking, fishing, crabbing, harvesting oysters, beachcombing (called "progging" by the locals), biking or simply taking long contemplative walks along the water. For hunters and fisherman, there is some of the best duck hunting and fishing on the East Coast! Amateurs can also fish or crab right off the public dock, or you can hire a local waterman to take you out on the water (see "Other Things to Note" section for contacts). Visit the local Drum Point Market for the world's absolute best crab cakes, or take a stroll along the crab shanty dock and visit local toy and craftmakers. Visit the famous crab picking coop, and play baseball, soccer and lacrosse and fly kites on the baseball field. Explore the incredible Pelican Rookery (right out of National Geographic!) and take a trip to a crab shanty to learn how hard shell crabs become soft shells! Spend time leisurely talking to locals all about the island's history and their life on the island. Become an honorary Junior Fire Fighter at the local fire station, or just spend luxurious hours sitting on the dock, watching the tide ebb and flow, and eventually, the spectacular setting sun. Then watch in awe as the dark night sky comes alive with thousands of brilliantly beaming stars just for you!

  • Loved our visit to Pauline's Cottage! Great location, quiet and peaceful, home had everything we needed to make our stay a pleasure, and most comfortable beds, ever!!

  • Gretchen’s house is great! It was right near the dock and very easy to get to from the ferry. There is only one market/restaurant in the village, and that closes at 3pm on Saturday, so bring your own food, unless you make arrangements with some of the locals to provide meals.

  • Lovely, cozy home. Helpful contacts written down on paper in kitchen. Comfy beds. Delicious crab cakes just a few steps from the house. Very good drinking water. Every amenity you could want.

  • Smith Island is a magical place, and Pauline's House was a wonderful base for exploring.

  • Pauline's Place is beautifully maintained home on the water, about 100 feet from where the boat docks. It's clean as a whistle and well equipped. We were there for Valentines Day Weekend and had no issues with heating or pipes. The advertisement written by Gretchen is very accurate, sleeps 10 with two full baths, both on the first floor, large eat-in kitchen, comfortable living room, limited channels on the TV, but there is a DVD player already hooked up. The resident population is both friendly and helpful beyond all expectations.

  • A beautiful home in a beautiful paradise. Great home owners that are more than helpful to set you up with anything you need. Ps... your neighbor is the legendary Mary Ada Marshall. Go right down the street for an amazing crab cake meal. Most likely the meat was hand picked by Mary Ada herself.
