  • Golden Beach Cabana is a nice, clean resort in ArumganBay. We enjoyed our cabana under the palmtrees and enclosed private beach. Our host Rihan is a good host. We felt very welcome.

    Simone2015-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our time at Stay Golden was in one word - perfect! Lovely accommodation with friendly attentive hosts and the restaurant is one of the best in the area, serving exotic breakfasts and delicious Sri Lankan curry. Would love to stay again during our next visit to Aragum.

  • We had a wonderful time at Stay Golden Cabana. Rihan, his brother Mohamed and the whole staff were really nice and the food from the restaurant tastes very good. Stay Golden is highly recommended! The next time we'll definitely go there again!!!

    Helene 2016-04-10T00:00:00Z
  • Every minute of our stay in Rihan's cabana was awesome! Friendly staff, amazing food, clean and comfortable apartment, best location, - we've never expected to meet such a high quality accommodation and service for such a reasonable money! It is certainly worth visiting, highly recommended. Rihan, our deepest thanks goes to you - you are an amazing person doing an amazing job every day, we were happy to meet you

    Maria2016-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Stay Golden was our home for 4 wonderful days. We toured Sri Lanka for 2 weeks and couldn't be happier we spent a chunk if our time here. Quiet and low-key, with the friendliest local staff. We far preferred the stilted cabanas and tree-lined gardens to the numerous more modern options on the Arugam strip and felt the essence of our tropical island holiday. The hotel is couple and children friendly with direct beach access and good food available from the beach restaurant with the best (shaded) view of the bay. Pancakes and coffee for breakfast are our suggestion. The hotel is not licenced to sell alcohol but you can BYOB. This didn't bother us at all as it keeps the relaxed vibe which we loved. Arugam was good to us, waves and wildlife with numerous good food options and Stay Golden was the perfect base.

    Kristie2017-04-23T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at stay golden, Rihan was an amazing host and all the staff are super friendly. Relaxing atmosphere, beautiful cabanas... Awesome avocado egg toast! Perfect

    James2015-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • We booked the beach view cabana originally for 7 nights but decided to extend for another night. We were simlpy in love with our cabana, our veranda with the hammock and the beach. Rihan and his boys did a marvellous job hosting and feeding us. The beach is lovely and arugam bay itselfe a great place! We would come back anytime and recommend to stay at stay golden to all our firends. Ps: try the ice tea and the stay golden super fruit salad:)

  • Absolutely perfect, the house is gorgeous, the location is ideal, but that isn't even the best bit...The host and his family were just the most attentive wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They gave me absolutely everything I needed, I could not have asked for a better stay. I am a bit of a seasoned airbnber and this was by far the best I have experienced.

    Emma2015-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time with Champ's extremely hospitable parents. We arrived dazed direct from London and we're kindly not just pointed but walked towards all the sights and busses for our short stay in Kandy. Breakfast was a treat and the delicious daal and other assorted delights surpassed all other breakfasts on our trip. The room and bathroom were one of the best we stayed in, particularly for the price, and the garden and chorus of frogs was charming.

    Ben2015-05-11T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, What a humble experience. The villa was a perfect oasis away from the "hussle and bustle" of the busy area of Kandy but close enough to walk into Kandy Lake or take a "tuktuk". I recommend staying here if you thinking of doing the Nilambe Meditation Retreat close to Kandy. Pool and garden was very relaxing and room was clean and tidy. The best Sri lankan breakfast ever. Thank you so much to the wonderful, friendly host Mr Tennakoon and his wife, this has been my best experience with Air bnb and I will definatly be back to visit.

    Cam2014-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most beautiful air bnb house I've been to so far! What you get for the price is really good, the room is clean with a nice balcony to relax, a swimming pool and a beautiful area to have a wonderful breakfast! Champ's father did everything to make our stay comfortable and gave us useful tips. Thank you for everything - definitely would come back!

    Kathi2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Champ's place was perfect for our stay in Kandy. The location is a short and easy tuktuk ride from the lake. The accommodation itself is a total oasis. It's so green! We thoroughly enjoyed cooling down in the garden or on the balcony after sightseeing in the city and the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The best part of our stay however was the hospitality of Champ's family. We could not have been made to feel more welcome and the local knowledge to see and do the very best of things in and around the city with total ease was invaluable. Champ's Dad literally organised everything for us, including transport, and I genuinely feel like we saw and experienced more than we could have done in a week on our own. This place is a real gem and if you are planning a trip to Kandy, I cannot recommend it it highly enough.

    Michelle2017-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Champs father and mother were wonderful hosts, providing us with top tips and ideas for our short stay in Kandy (what to pay a tuk tuk etc.) The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Mr Tenakoon showed us buses to get and arranged a very good driver for out long journey from Kandy to Uda Walawe. The room was clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

    Jo2016-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • An oasis in Kandy! Champ's parent's place is a beautiful getaway, complete with the most magical garden...you'll certainly forget that the city is so close by. My friend and I had been traveling for a few weeks before we arrived at the Tennakoon's and we really appreciated the serenity and beauty on offer. As everyone else has said, Mr & Mrs Tennakoon are amazing- you'll want them to adopt you! Mr Tennakoon obviously takes great pride in both the house and the garden and is a excellent host. We were offered tips on what to do and where to go in Kandy- Champ's dad is clearly very proud of his home city. The room itself is separate from the main house, spacious and very clean, with a sweet balcony. There is a little kitchenette with cooking facilities next door and we really appreciated being able to cook our own food. The wifi connection was also great. Both of us would highly recommend the room to anyone staying in Kandy. It beats a guest house or hotel hands down. The only problem is that you won't want to leave!

    Tamar2015-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful 3 nights stay at Champ's parents' place in Kandy. They were incredibly friendly and helpful; Champ's dad recommended things to do and what/where to eat. We were very touched by his generosity. The place itself is lovely, very peaceful and secluded - a great place to come back to after the bustle of Kandy. The room is clean and the breakfasts were delicious! We would definitely recommend staying here for any trip to Kandy.

  • Communication with Phil was brilliant from the start as he made us aware of issues relating to the floods. Phil was also helpful with making recommendations for things to do, etc. The accommodation in itself was beautiful and clean.

  • Gorgeous property, great location, friendly staff and amazing food!

    Jessica2017-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was our favorite of all the places we stayed in Sri Lanka. The place is exquisite and Phil, his wife were gracious and warm. The room had privacy and amazing views. I wish we had stayed there longer.

    Andrea2017-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely guest house, amazing view and the owners were so friendly and helpful. The Sri Lankan dinner was also great! Definitely recommend

    Jaime2017-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very welcomed. Phil and his wife are lovely. The grounds are beautiful and it is a unique property in Mirissa. As it was the low season and the pool was being renovated Phil offered us two rooms! We did have difficulty with the heat and lack of air conditioning and had to move to a different venue the second night. We lost water but were able to get it back later that evening.

    Asha2015-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • The spice house is a beautiful property and is very tastefully decorated. It is located very close to a small beach and not too far away from the main beach. The house has a nice garden and a swimming pool where one can spend many afternoons reading or just lazing. The room had a comfortable bed, attached bath, balcony with sit-out. I enjoyed the food served in the spice house, i had all 3 meals and can confidently say it's one of the best meals I have had in sri lanka even if Phil thought that the flavors were customized for tourists to keep the intensity of salt and chilli on the lower side. Phil and wathsala are really warm hosts. Wathsala took care of me very well as I was a solo traveller. She is very friendly and has this raw innocence about her which for me was very appealing. The staff were friendly and attend to guests in a professional manner yet with homely touch.I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a guest house where you can relax and feel at home with great hospitality. I spent that last two days of my Sri Lankan vacation here and it was the best decision in my vacation. I only had a minor issue with water in the bathroom which was fixed very quickly by Wathsala.

    sahana2015-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Phil and Mathsala were excellent hosts and made us very welcome . The room was beautiful , tasteful and we had everything we needed. Peacock room was secluded and private but close to the pool and main house. They had good links with local drivers and a spa so we got really good value for both these . Breakfast was the best we had in Sri Lanka and the 4 days flew by .

to feel space, tranquility and nature...
Nestled in the middle of a large lush garden with sprawling trees and picturesque scenery, our villa is only a 15 minutes drive from Galle Town, the most well-known coastal city in Southern Sri Lanka. Deliberately designed to provide ample space and relaxed privacy for its guests, this is a newly- restored 18th century two-storied building which offers two large suites, each with a private swimming pool and a bath tub. The suites are surrounded by spacious verandahs opening out onto the terraced garden which gently slopes away from the house. Although hidden away, the ingenious planning of the original 18th century original owner (who's said to be a supplier of material to the Dutch Fortress construction) means that the position of building provides almost a lookout over the surrounding area. This suite -- Village Suite -- is a two roomed unit with a balcony overlooking the village. Surrounding jungle mountains are visible from the pool and faces west. The bedroom is air conditioned. The two suites can be booked together or separately. Each suite is completely separated from the other to ensure privacy. Both suites have been sympathetically restored in keeping with the history of this very old building, but with a modern emphasis on comfort, space and connection to nature. In a continuation of its heritage & is decorated with antique furniture from the Dutch period including large four poster beds. Time stands still as you enjoy the peaceful comfort and understated luxury of the rooms and the simple pleasures of being close to nature. Alternatively, Galle Town and the famous Dutch Fortress are easily close enough for exploring, shopping and dining. The popular and renowned Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa beach is only 20 minutes away. (Please note that given its large balconies, staircases, and open swimming pool on the first floor, we regret that it is not able to accept guests with small children for safety reasons.) The famous "The Lighthouse Hotel" -- a masterpiece by the world renown Architect, Geoffrey Bawa -- and the beautiful beach just 10 minutes away. Wifi Meals can be ordered or a cook can be hired by prior arrangement. Breakfast included in the rates
Galle Town and the famous Dutch Fortress are easily close enough for exploring, shopping and dining -- 15 minutes by tuk tuk. The popular and renowned Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa beach is only 20 minutes away.
  • We loved our stay. The absolute highlight of our holiday! Highly recommended! Thank you so much for having us...

    Judith2015-05-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sumudu and Dinesh were wonderful hosts. They were warm and hospitable who took time to chat with us to see how our stay was going, to recommend and help arrange our side trips to Galle Fort, Unawatuna, Kogalla, etc and also just to shoot the breeze. We got to stay in both the Sunrise and the village rooms and they are both excellent. The lush garden mentioned by other guests is simply delightful. We saw monkeys in the early morning jumping from trees to tress, a mongoose meander through the front yard during breakfast and a tiny little iguana on the top roof of the garage. We also had breakfast and sometimes lunch and dinner. They were all delicious. We felt we spent 5 nights in paradise.

    celia2015-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a very special place. Sumudu and her family went out of their way to make us feel welcome, from before our stay, arranging our fantastic driver Deva, offering advice and top travel tips; and for our stay, from arrival to departure they went above and beyond our expectations with so many kind gestures. The home has been restored with so much care and you can tell it's personal. It's tasteful, comfortable and in gorgeous settings. We just wished we had longer to enjoy it. We can't thank Sumudu and Dinesh enough for making our stay so special!

    Sayle2015-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay with Sumudu and Dinesh couldn't have been better! They were the kindest and most generous hosts and have a beautiful house! Lovely, quiet suite with very comfy bed and great pool. Delicious breakfast and fruit juice and extremely helpful advice even before we arrived! A great way to end our tour of Sri Lanka and we hope to return soon! Thank you so much!

    Ella2016-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • An oasis filled with warmth and generosity. I holidayed with my parents and loved the accomodation, the plunge pool and the company of the warmest people I have encountered. We had the most beautiful and memorable time. This was most definitely one of my air bnb highlights!

    Neha2017-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • We spent only two days at Sumudu, Dinesh and their children. But these few days were wonderful. The two gave us a very warm-hearted welcome. On our arrival day they were in the city, and even took our backpacks with them, so we were able to visit Galle without luggage. They also patiently answered all our questions. The breakfast was fantastic and room + pool were very nice and bigger than we thought. Thanks again for everything. P.S. Today we were on the beach, which Dinesh recommended to us. It was great, we loved it! Kind regards - maybe we see us soon! - Ann-Katrin & Dominik

    Ann-Katrin2017-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Dinesh & Sumudu were extremely welcoming and helpful. They have a beautiful home and family. The suite is private and lovely. It was very relaxing and the plunge pool is fantastic. Dinesh and Sumudu provided delicious breakfasts. The house is outside of Galle, so it is much quieter and surrounded by vegetation. It was easy to get a tuk-tuk into town or other areas. We would definitely stay with them again and recommend it to others.

    Jennifer2016-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Sumudu & Dimesh were so lovely & kind hosts - the perfect spot in Sri Lanka. Stylish & huge house in the middle of a tropical forest, full of heart & soul. A wonderful Sri Lankan Breakfast with a monkey watchin´. A pool with a view. And this happy family - these lovely children. Hope to come back soon!

  • Buddhi is an absolute legend. He is such a friendly, attentive and helpful host - the best you could wish for! His place is very scenic; it must have the best views in Ella! The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable. Food is divine! Buddhi's Mom is a great cook. Breakfast was fresh, delicious and portions are generous. If you're planning on a trip to Little Adam's peak, Ella Rock, Nine Arches Bridge or any nearby attractions, just ask Buddhi - his hand drawn maps are brilliant. He gave us great tips on how to make most of the two days we had in Ella. Nothing is too much trouble for Buddhi. He very kindly helped us with planning our onward journey and even waited with us at the bus stop to ensure we didn't get on the wrong bus. Could not recommend Buddhi and his place highly enough!

    Beatrix2014-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, views are incredible. We had a great stay and Buddhi was very helpful. Would recommend Ella and staying at Buddhi's. Breakfast was very good too

    Claire2017-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic! The view from our bedroom was incredible, looking out for miles. Buddhi was a great host! And even drew us a map of local walks to Ella Rock and Ravana Waterfall. The meals were delicious, and was authentic Sri Lankan food. We will definitely be staying here again. Thanks, Cameron and Beth, UK

    Cameron2015-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical! The views are incredible; positioned right between Ella Rock & Little Adams Peak. Sunset & Sunrise galore. An easy 10 minute walk into the centre or hiking routes accessible right from the Guest Inn. Buddhi was very friendly and hospitable. He went above & beyond to provide laundry facilities for our entire luggage & created breakfast to go for 6am when we had to check out early; as well as packed lunch for our hikes. Couldn't of asked for more, would definitely recommend & hope to stay again!

    Joshua2017-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Buddhi and his mother have been wonderful host during our 2 night-stay in Ella. The house has an incredible view (probably one of the best in Ella and much better than most of other guesthouses in the busy mainstreet). It is just a few minutes from the railway station and from the restaurants/bars and quiet. Rooms are simple but confortable with all what you need. Buddhi was very helpful and made his best to fullfill our request (he arrange a last minute delicious rice and curry when our train was delayed, find a driver...). All in all it is an amazing value for money, but also "local" flavor with typical Sri Lankan breakfast and the hospitality of Buddhi and his Mum!

    Benoit2014-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Buddhi came down to the Dream Cafe to guide us to his home. We had the larger 3 bed room which was comfortable and had that amazing view. We had good breakfasts and the evening meals cooked by his mum Kanti were excellent and varied. A very good place to stay!

    Judy 2015-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice view, breakfast and host. 5-10min walk to Ella's one Main Street. I'd stay here again.

    James2014-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed three nights at Buddhi's place and we loved it!^^ the view from our room and the common room were we took our breakfast was breathtaking! But more than everything we want to thank Buddhi and his mom! They were always ready to help with anything and always with a smile. The breakfast was also delicious!^^ we will definately come back here on our next visit to Ella!

Guava house is located on the borders of the Sri Lankan hill country. It’s within easy reach of the famous elephant orphanage (about one hours drive), and close to the ancient capital Kandy (one and half hour drive). Day trips to a "up country" tea estate can be arranged.
  • The house was the nicest place we stayed in Sri Lanka. It is wonderfully airy with elegant architecture. The housekeeper/chef provided excellent meals and the friendly dog was fun to spend time with. The house is very quiet and secure and is ideal for families or couples.

    Kevin2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • It was such a great experience, I loved the house and it's location, very relaxing and welcoming. Jainthi and her husband were lovely, they were there for us the whole time. I'm missing Molly the dog already, she is so adorable and smart. I enjoyed just laying on the wooden chair and breathe. Food was delicious, bedrooms were clean and cozy. Watching the sunrise was my favorite moment. I really want to visit Guava house again. Thank you Shaunagh

    Ali2017-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Guava House is simply a stunner. The pictures don't lie, this is exactly what it looks like. Hands down our most exotic experience in Sri Lanka. Apart from the house itself the surroundings and local community is an experience in itself. The complete absence of other tourists makes it very genuine. Shaunagh has been most helpful both regarding logistics (airport transfer and food) as well as local excursions. We climbed to the top of Bible Rock which offered fantastic vistas and an exciting jungle trek. It does require some physical abilities to do the climb, but most people will be perfectly able. The caretaker Jeyanthi took exceptionally good care of us, pool was always clean, beds were made and not least the food is simply fantastic. The best Rice & Curry we had in Sri Lanka. Lastly, Shaunagh's driver Kumar drives safe and smooth and has and airconditioned van. In sum most recommendable.

    Karl2015-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Guava House. It was a very relaxing and peaceful place to stay, with lots of birds and butterflies in the surroundings. Jeyanthi and her husband were lovely and very helpful. Her cooking was wonderful and we were well-nourished for our stay.

    Smita2016-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was amazing about this place. Lovely housekeepers & food, great design & atmosphere and amazing location if you'd like to be completely off from day-to-day city life. Totally recommend it.

    ceysu2017-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was fantastic, the house is absolutely stunning (absolutely amazing architecture) with a wonderful homey feel - we had no problems settling in! and the surrounding areas were well maintained The staff (Jeyanthi & her husband) did a wonderful job of looking after us - cooking tasty home made meals and making sure we had everything we needed. We didn't get to meet our host this time, but we'd would like to say a special thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful and I'm sure that we will be back again soon (for longer!)

    Joyce2015-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting at one with nature. Fantastic food. Amazing experience going on a bike ride around the property , amongst paddy fields and surrounding mountains. Wifi is an issue but I think Shaunagh is going to improve that. House managers who are there to cook for you have very calming energy and allow you to feel at home, however English not so good, so sometimes things are not so clear. But I suppose that is the charm of the country! Their son is a great tuk tuk driver and I strongly recommend the drive to Amanawella temple it's just such a beautiful drive and all the locals are happy to see you, plus the walk up the very very high temple tower is really something!!!! Arrival --- We took the train from Colombo fort to Rambukana which was fantastic, stunning views, a little quicker than driving from Colombo and this way you can see and feel where you are going and coming from! And a car will pick you up from the station and drive you (1hr) from the station to the property. Get to Colombo fort station early and get your second class tickets (better views) and jump onto the train as fast as you can to get a seat! Or do what we did, sit in the doorway and let your legs hang out and feel the breeze and soak up the nature views!

    natasha2017-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Shaunagh's house is absolutely incredible ! I would have never imagined finding such a house in Sri Lanka. The location is perfect and although the road to get there Is a Little adventure in itself, prepare yourself to discover a truly unique, cosy, sunny home. The architecture is so original, the pool is so well integrated into the landscape, it's like living in a decoration magazine ! Not to mention, Jayanthi the lovely cook and her husband that took such a good care of us. Breakfasts, lunches and dinner were incredible, Sri Lankan style, not too spicy and having them on the huge wooden table were each time the highlights of the day ! In a nutshell if you're looking for a wonderful place to relax, apart from touristy and busy Kandy, off the main tracks, it is THE house you have dreamed of, and it will remind you the true originality of choosing airbnb for your next vacation.

The house itself is lovely and very exotically decorated with a garden and a fish pond inside. The room is clean and neat with an ensuite bathroom too. Anything in Colombo is a short tuk tuk ride from the house and Chitrupa can advise you of where to go and what to do. I can't recommend enough. For a great start to your visit to Sri Lanka stay with Chitrupa

  • Fantastic experience staying with Chitrupa family, it's a shame that we didn't meet Chitrupa, but his norther gave us warm welcome. Our room is beautifully arranged like a fairy tale, my husband and I had a sweet sleep. Next day morning, a wonderful breakfast is prepared, best pineapple and waffle I have ever tasted in my life. Two dogs are nice, sweet and quiet. Highly recommended, will stay there next time.

  • Me and my friends had a wonderful night staying in Chitrupa's house which is full of decorations from the globe and the stories of his (Website hidden by Airbnb) feels like dropping into wonderland when we could't help exploring the house. With the hospitality of Chitrupa and his family(especially the adorable dog!!),the days we spent in Colombo becomes unforgattable. Many thanks to our best host!! Strongly recommend!!

  • We had a short, but great stay at Chitrupa´s house. It was no problem to arrive in the middle of the night and leave early morning at the same day. He organized us a driver from the airport and to the train station and on our last day as well a shuttle spontaneously! Furthermore he assisted us with all our questions before our trip, is a very welcoming host and I definitely recommend his place.

  • Fantastic place where anyone can feel welcomed and right at home! Great generous hosts, fantastic breakfast, helped me with my next destination and introduced me to PickMe. I would definitely book again if I'm in Colombo.

  • My partner and I loved our stay at Chitrupa's Garden Guest House! He, his family, and the house staff were all warm and welcoming. They helped arrange transport from the airport, taught us how to get around town using the PickMe app, provided nice breakfasts, and accommodated stray requests like refrigerating and later warming up leftovers we took home from restaurants. The house itself is meticulously decorated, and one can see that it is a work of love. Our bedroom was comfortable, with big curtains and air conditioning for a pleasant sleeping experience. We definitely recommend staying here. Thank you, Chitrupa!

Set inside Mirissa village,a few minutes walk from the beach, the Tree House is a quiet haven from which to enjoy Sri Lankan life. Breakfast included.Hot shower. Whale watching tours,Ayurvedic massage,home-cooked meals and tuktuk hire can be arranged!
  • Ravindu and his family are very nice and accomodating. The Tree House is truly a unique and wonderful experience. Highly recommended!

  • Where do we start with this little gem. We arrived before the people before us had checked out but we were welcomed immediately and given tea and fresh fruit and offered the use of another room for a shower etc whilst we waited. The room was very quickly turned around. The tree house is very cute with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom was great. We had homecooked rice and curry which was delicious and breakfast was also lovely- we had the Sri Lankan option. The only issue with this place is it gets booked up so we could only stay 1 night. Great location as its close to the beach. Thanks Ravindu and family.

    Anna2016-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great complex - a few minutes to the beach, they know great whale-watching guides, they have contacts throughout town, and the food is great! The only downside: this is very near the street, and all night there is noise from tourists, dogs, and the clubs on the beach. You get used to it quickly, though.

    Andrew2016-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • A nice tree house near the beach as well as main road. Clean bathroom but the hot water was a bit unstable. We did not meet Ravindu, but his family was very nice. The breakfast was delicious. One concern is that the mosquito net cannot be closed completely, for travellers who attract mosquitos like us.

    Fong Ting2016-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The tree house was lovely. The whole room was neat and was like a perfect getaway. We were hoping to have a view of the beach from the tree house but we only saw houses. It was alright though. The only problem we had was that we weren't able to go to the beach at night. When we asked for directions on how to get there, they'd only say it's just 50 meters away but didn't specifically say where to pass as there were no public ways going to the beach apparently. You had to be a guest of one of the resorts to be able to get access to the beach or else you'd have to pass through a dark, old restaurant where we thought really wasn't safe. They served breakfast so it was still cool. :)

    Michael2016-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 2 nights in the tree house. Very close to the beach, in a quiet street. They are currently building 2 more tree houses, so it was a bit of a building site, although that didn't affect our stay. Very friendly people, and a nice quirky place to stay.

    Amanda2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Ravindu's tree house at the end of our trip to Sri Lanka. It is very charming and clean with the added bonus being that it is near his family who are exceptionally welcoming and lovely. It is less than 5 minutes walk from the beach. We were welcomed with tea and had perhaps the best home cooking in Sri Lanka. Hope to return!

  • Our favourite place from our three week trip around Sri Lanka. The house is beautiful and we really enjoyed the food. The service and staff were excellent and we would love to come back and stay for longer.

  • Wonderful place! Although is up the hill, the tuk tuks take you everywhere in a matter of minutes. The house is wonderful and charming and Manoj and the team are the best! Great, calm and wonderful house! We highly recommend it!

  • We absolutely loved everything about unakanda. Manoj and Sujeva were amazing at making us feel completely at home, and cleaned the house to perfection every day. Manoj cooking was amazing, and he made sure we never needed anything. The house is just perfect, everything is beautiful, the bedrooms, and the bathrooms are stunning. The house itself is tucked away in the perfect jungle surrounding, the view is breathtaking. We will definitely be back. Tim sent us email with all the info we could wish for. Thank you so much

    Anne Sophie2016-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Beautiful home, lovely pool and great indoor/outdoor bathroom. Tim was really helpful before we arrived and we were really well looked after by Manoj and co during our stay. We stayed for just two nights - if you're planning to visit Unakanda, I'd suggest staying for longer... you might not want to leave :)

    Suzanne2017-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Shar & Tim's house is amazing and we cannot recommend it highly enough. It was the perfect end to three weeks travelling around Sri Lanka, we only wish we had stayed longer. It's even better than the photos! Manoj is fantastic, he was there to show us around when we arrived, he helped us plan activities, booked tuk tuks to get us around, did shopping for us and he is a great cook! Sujeeve is lovely, he took care of us and the house in a quite and discreet way. These two guys really made our stay perfect. The only small thing I would mention is that the listing says there is a washing machine but there isn't one. If we had known that it would not have been a problem but we were counting on using the machine when we arrived. Manoj arranged for our washing to be done but we didn't get it back till the evening of our 2nd day which left us a bit short of clean clothes! Manoj said they are getting a washing machine soon.

  • We stayed at Tim and Shar's place for the last week of a 2 week trip around Sri Lanka and it was the highlight of our trip! Manoj and Suveen were amazing and helped us arranging transport and made us some incredible food. Also we fell in love with Moree, the villa's resident dog who was always around to welcome us back to the villa or walk us down to the beach road. It was also amazing to watch the monkeys in the trees when we were relaxing by the pool! The place is perfect location to get enough away from the Main Street to relax but close enough to walk down to bars and restaurants. I don't usually like to return to the same place preferring to explore different places however we would love to return to Una Kanda again in the future and hope to do so! :)

    Jaime2016-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Unakanda is actually paradise! You can't find more beautiful architecture and more thoughtful touches anywhere in the world and Manoj is the perfect host who provides priceless local knowledge and goes above and beyond for every request- we can't recommend this place enough and will be back asap. Thank you so much to Manoj and Shar and Tim for making our trip to Sri Lanka!

    Fiona2016-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Unakanda is amazing! I just wish I had more time off work or my wife was not heavily pregnant because we would have stayed here a whole lot longer. Full attentiveness as you like or just your own pad to kick back and relax. Manoj & Sujeeva are fantastic, were very welcoming and made our first time in Sri Lanka truly memorable. Tuktuks are easily arranged to go exploring & head out for meals etc. Perfect size for our small family but two couples would be extremely comfortable staying here as well. Tim was very responsive before and during our stay & always had our best interests at heart. We would love to go back soon!

Thambilli Beach House is set high, overlooking the sweeping golden bay of Unawatuna, with it’s own private beach and swimming pool. A luxurious, spacious modern villa with a breath taking panoramic view of the Indian Ocean.
Broad steps and stepping-stones over a lily filled pond lead you up to this luxurious, spacious modern villa with a breath taking panoramic view of the Indian Ocean. The villa can accommodate 6-8 people and has 3 full time staff that will discretely look after you and cater to your every whim – cook meals, do laundry and take care of all those bothersome duties you just do not want to think about on holiday. WiFi, Sky and a good sound system are at your disposal. ideal for all age groups

  • It was a very smooth arrival , the manager gave our driver instructions , amazing villa , superb views of the ocean .

    Nehaa2015-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fiametta and the villa staff could not have been more accommodating! Even before we arrived they assisted with transportation arrangements, scheduling activities and providing general guidance for a group that had never been the Sri Lanka before. This is no more evident than the amazing staff that went above and beyond whilst we were in Unawatuna to make our stay wonderful. We had a birthday in our group and the staff decorated the house and prepared a special birthday meal - it was truly memorable. Additionally, if there was an option each of us would have hired the cook and taken him with his - the food the villa provides was immensely more tasty than anything else we had on our trip! I cannot state enough how absolutely stunning the villa itself is. Perfectly located to be both close to town but also enough away that you and your group can feel isolated. The amenities at the villa are wondrous and truly my best experience on air b&B. Thank you so much for making our holiday special!

  • This is one place I would always would like to go when I am in Srilanka. I have still not been able to find out any blissful place as this. We were group of 4 people and was warmly welcomed and has been taken care well. This place has everything. One can enjoy with a group of people and also have privacy. Its neat and clean. The best was the infinity pool overlooking the indian ocean. One can either stay in the pool and enjoy the view of go down to the sea for a snorkelling or do both. In single word, BLISS. Everything was perfect as it looked.

  • This place was a great escape from the city hustle and bustle. Not too far out of Colombo and only 10 mins away from the Galle fort. My friends and I had an amazing weekend here! The staff was so friendly and very attentive that I felt like at home. The views are breathtakingly beautiful I would recommend this place to everybody!

  • Wowwwww this place is magical, everything about it is just fantastic. Just a note, the 3 boys working in the house only know how to clean the rooms & nothing more, in case you expect more. Highly recommended & will be visiting each year :) :)

    Fred2016-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This house is very tired, however it has a great view and stunning pool. If you want to self cater contact Fiammetta as during our stay there was no usable kitchen. The cook gave us a Sri Lankan cookery lesson, and my 17 year old son said it was the best curry he had ever had!

    Amanda2017-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thambilli Beach House is in an amazing location and staffed by a helpful team. The outlook from the pool is just unbeatable. The team were only too happy to help, nothing was a problem - including transport, meal requests and even Sinhala lessons in preparation for a speech. Loved the little architectural touches such as the way lines from behind the pool run directly into the horizon. A great place to sit back and relax or to base yourself for adventure.

We offer typical Sri Lankan village atmosphere with an authentic Sri Lankan kitchen where you can also look over shoulders of our kitchen crew. We arrange kite lessons and material from our kiteschool. Wake up to the sound of birds and the wind.
Kalpitiya is a small fishing village in north western province of Sri Lanka. Kalpitiya is an emerging kiters and windsurfers destination. Me personally being fascinated by kiting and windsurfing we have started a "village" style accommodation with service next to the main lagoon of Kalpitiya, where our guest will enjoy comfort closer to nature. "Ruuk Village" is built within a coconut plantation without harming a single tree in the process. All five cabanas are very specious and there is plenty of space around you. Our goal is to provide cost effective accommodation to all who wants to discover the fascination of Kalpitiya just the way we did it. We want to be the first ever village site in Sri Lanka, where you can enjoy kiting, windsurfing or even just enjoying the nature like dolphin watching, whale watching, visit the national park (Wilpattu national park) which is about 90mins drive from the the village. We also help you organize a cultural trip to the Sri Lankan cultural triangle ( Sigiriya, Dambulla,Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa). From may till end of September its the main wind season. From Oct to April our guests can also enjoy , snorkeling at the Sri Lankan largest reef ( 300 square miles) or a dolphin / Sperm whale safari. We organize these trips for you if you mention this in your booking. - We have clean and basic cabanas for double occupancy, each cabana has its own shower and water. Each cabana has only two beds, an extra bed can be added on prior request ( extra charge ) - Common sanitary area - If you are here for kiting, from our village just pump your kite and start kiting at any time of the day. The winds are best from May till Oct. You save time traveling to and forth to the lagoon from a distant place. - There is a small village shop where you can buy your daily needs such as drinking water, cool drinks, fresh fruits etc - Breakfast is included. Lunch and dinner, you can order it from our small restaurant (a limited Sri Lankan Menu on warm and cold dishes) Our aim is to provide you an unforgettable stay in Kalpitiya at an affordable price to fit your budget. "Quality in service does not need to cost a fortune"
We are just 20mins walking distance from Kalpitiya town center. Or we arrange a TukTuk for you to go to town in 7mins. You will not have lagoon entrance and also such a short distance to town center elsewhere. There is no other accommodation in close vicinity, and this helps you to have a relaxing holiday.
  • Amazing place, people and experiences!! I had a great time, sure to be back !

  • We were looking for a good place to relax with our kids for a couple of days. I think we never relaxed this well. Perfect surroundings, very friendly and helpful staff, very chill, great food. I would stay here forever. Kiting is excellent and kite instructor Daniel excellent. Also, great organized trips at great value for money. Did a two day trip to Wilpattu National Park and manager Gamage took great care of everything and all. Very nice experience. Highly recommend this place, will be back.

    Dries2015-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect! We got picked up by boat with our trolley, and suitcases.

    Gro2016-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ruuk village was a great starting point for our backpacking tour through Sri Lanka. We liked the layed-back atmosphere and the stuff was great. The cabanas are cosy. It also works nice as a kite surfing base. Daniel is a friendly teacher and I had a lot of fun during my first kite surfing lesson. There is not much going on in the neighborhood of the village. If you are looking for a vibrant place, this won't be a good match. But as I sad before if you want to hang out and relax that's the place to be.

    Philipp2014-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Ruuk Village is a magical place to stay. The cabana was comfortable and the outdoor shower was lovely. Gamage, Gihan and the kitchen staff looked after us very well. Meals were all delicious. We were incredibly lucky to coincide with the New Year games day celebration. It was a great opportunity to meet Kalpitiya locals. My favourite activity was swinging in the hammock, watching the lagoon change colour as the sun set.

    Annette2015-04-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place! The staff is super friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay in Ruuk Village. I have nothing to complain about. Great food, nice and clean cabanas, peaceful environment, the best people! :) I'll come back for sure!

    Valpuri2018-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • An amazingly beautiful space. Completely calm, quiet and serene. Gamagi and Shahan were perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. It was slightly pricey with regard to dinners compared to anywhere else I have stayed but the food was delicious and the experience itself makes it worth it. The cabins are beautifully done and the outdoor shower is the best I have had in Sri Lanka so far. The solar powered wifi is also the quickest I have experienced here. I didn't kite surf but the instructor is extremely knowledgable and passionate about his sport so you would be in great hands. I would definitely stay here again for the peace and quiet and relaxing sunsets.

  • We stayed at Roshans place in Kalpitiya for the last three nights of our vacation and had very good and relaxed time there. The whole resort contains eight huts, but only four of them were rented out so it was a by private and nice atmosphere. The hut itself was basic, but very fine for us. We could hear the nature sounds around us every night, really enjoyed that. Bed was comfortable, linen were provided and also the food was good for a touristic place. The staff around were easy to chat, friendly, helpful and tried their best to make us feel good. The location itself is a bit tucked away in a seems-to-be coconut plantation, that was really cool (the rustling palms and all the stars at night, wow, that was awesome). Most times, you can only access the site by boat, as the road gets flooded daily during high tide in the lagoon (even then you can walk there, if you don't scare about muddy water in the night :-)) ). We got picked up by boat in the nearby harbour, that was really easy. Overall we had good stay there and loved to chill down in Kalpitiya.

  • Rukmal was the perfect host. Honest, Interesting and fun. He picked us up late and delivered our bags into town the day we left and never asked for any rupees. Great egg hoppers breakfast with palm treacle pancakes. The tree house is very sweet and was lit up with lanterns when we arrived. Wish we could of had more time there to explore the area.

  • Rukmal is a super nice guy. The treehouse is amazing and a great experience! We really enjoyed our stay. It was cool that we played a Sri Lankan Game with Rukmal and his friends! Thank you for making our Journey special!!!!

  • The stay at the tree hut where absolutely amazing! It is directly in the nature, feels like in the middle of nowhere, but you Can be In a couple of minutes in the little town of habarana ,from where you can reach very good and easy the popular attractions of Sri Lanka's cultural triangle. And the good and very nice thing is, rukmal is well known of some very good and special spiritually and mystical(historical, buddhist) places in this area. Rukmal and his friends are very friendly and lovely. It is the best place for nature lovers. Very nice sounds from the nature and charming people around you. I can definitely recommend him as a perfect host with great tree huts. All pictures showing the real thing! Thank you so much nature and rukmal ;)

    Lenni2015-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay with Rukmal in his treehouse. He is a very kind and attentive host. He was very happy to pick us up from Habarana in his tuktuk and went to a lot of trouble to ensure we had everything we needed. He was able to arrange a safari to see the elephants and help with other plans. Be aware the treehouse is very basic with no electricity but the proximity to nature is part of the charm of the place. The bird watching from the balcony was great fun.

    Emily2016-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Although we didn't visit other treehouse in habarana, I am pretty sure that Rukmals place is indeed the coolest treehouse in town! If you love nature and don't mind a frog on you toilet once in a while, this treehouse shouldn't be missed on your journey through Sri Lanka. Rukmal is also the best birdspotter we have met so far, so don't forget to bring him on your safari!

  • Really nice place, excellent design, very comfortable bed, nice garden and clean swimming pool. A little bit far from the centre but easy to reach by tuktuk or taxi. Nelun is superhost!! She asked late dinner for us, made everything to help and her housekeeper made early breakfast. Thank for all!

  • Our stay at The Cube was lovely. The housekeeper/hostess was the best. She made us feel right at home! We didn’t have the chance to meet Nelun but she provided us with a telephone number in case the driver needed directions. Breakfast was excellent! Would recommend it to friends and family.

  • The apartment was really clean and the furnitur like on the pictures. The housekeeper is really nice and if you have any questions Nelun will help you. It‘s a really quiet area.

  • Was welcomed by the house help Rani, the neighborhood is quiet and is surrounded by interestingly designed houses. We arrived around 10pm and Nelum helped us with directions. Gothami place isn't on (Hidden by Airbnb) maps however Gothami lane which is nearby, is.

  • Neluns’ Appartement is in a nice and calm area of the the otherwise busy Colombo. In our short time there we enjoyed the little garden and the plunge pool on top of the house. The rooms are nice and clean and we would have enjoyed to stay longer. Although I haven’t met Nelun personally, she was always quick to reply to messages. She even prepared some food for our little daughter, because she feared that the little one might not enjoy spicy food. The maid and the housekeeper where both very friendly and helpful about giving directions and tips about planning our travel. There is a super market and a street food take away in walking distance, on the main road.

    Emanuel2017-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place for us to stay, it was hot so the pool was amazing and the decor is beautiful and well thought out. Breakfast was delicious and we would recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet spot to retreat to after a day of exploring the city

    Caroline2017-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Nelun's property was our first ever Airbnb experience and we are such converts now! :) This house was easy to find, beautifully maintained and very cleanly maintained. There was one lady responsible for the general upkeep of the house and feeding us breakfast and she was very well trained. Thanks, Nelun :) The house is private, allows you alot of space and privacy for yourself and zero interferance from the neighbours or anyone. I loved that there were 2 stray cats who would chill out in the garden! Only wee bit of niggle we had was the pool. We didnt get to use it at all as it was not very clean. We didnt bring it up with Nelun while we were there since we were out for the most part but I'm sure, if made aware, this would have been fixed while we were there.

Double room with ensuit and balcony with magnificent view of Ella's rock and Rawana waterfall. Western or Sri Lankan breakfast included. Dinner on request. Free WiFi. Maximum 5 minutes walk into town.
  • Ruwan and his wife are literally the nicest people in Sri Lanka. We had a 10/10 experience here, and I cannot recommend staying here enough. This was a highlight of our time in Sri Lanka. Firstly, our train was 90 minutes late into Ella. Ruwan waited at the station for us, in the rain, and on arrival paid for a taxi for us to get to the hostel as it was raining and he didn't want us getting wet. He refused money for this. Secondly, the food here was the best we had in Sri Lanka. Dinner was a 12 course feast, and breakfast was a combination of western and Sri Lankan food that left us 'Christmas Full'. We went on a short hike up Little Adams Peak, so Ruwan stopped what he was doing and walked us 20 minutes to the start of the trail to ensure we didn't get lost. The view from the room is 10/10, and the best we saw in Ella. It is a guest house so it is a little rustic, but it adds to the charm of an incredibly inviting and welcoming stay. On leaving, we left our iPad in the guesthouse. Once Ruwan discovered this he called our driver, rode his motorbike 15 minutes in monsoon rain to catch up with us. He refused to accept a tip, but I forced him to take one. Once we were moving he threw it back to us through the taxi window, gave us a wave, and was on his way. We have travelled to over 50 countries across Asia and the world, and we have never felt more welcomed than staying with Ruwan.

    Kevin2015-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time! Ruwan is a super friendly person and a great chef as well. So make sure you try his dinner!

    Niels2016-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • Ruwan was very kind person. He waited for us so night time because we arrived there lately. In the morning he prepared great breakfast for us, and also helped us carry our heavy baggages on the coming and leaving way. There were many mountains around Ella, we saw the most beautiful starry sky never before on the room balcony. It's wonderful experience!

    SIHAN2016-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • Ruwan and his family were so friendly and accommodating! The morning view from the balcony is amazing, so peaceful, and breakfast is served out here which is delicious and huge! I wish we had planned better and stayed a second night.

  • Fantastic view, great location 5 minutes from city center via the rails, good food, quiet

  • We had a wonderfull time at village view homestay! The food was really good, the best we had so far in Sri Lanka!!!! Ruwan and his wife are very friendly and they helped us a lot (buying the train tickets in advance, giving advice what to do and where to go...). Thanks for everything!

    Viv2015-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay here, the location is brilliant alongside the train track which makes it easily accessible from town or Ella Rock. Ruwan is a lovely host who catered to all our needs and provided a delicious breakfast on the terrace with incredible views. The rooms are quiet and provided the best nights sleep we've had yet!

    Georgia2017-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Ruwan and Madhu are very kind and efficient people. From the beginning to the end of our stay, they were available to help and advise us. They helped us to find a driver, they were so kind with my kids. They advise the right activities and walks according to our needs. The place is beautiful, to wake up there in front of the view, with the sounds of the prayers of the temple as light background is a wonder. We really recommend the stay in their guesthouse. Mintu is so lovely !

  • Very clean apartment with amazing view of the sea. Pool was fine but only 1 hour access allowed at a time. Need to get transport in order to get into central Columbo. Uber taxis are available and very cheap, we got this from the airport 1h15mins and into the town. 20-25 minutes from the apartment to the central train station in Columbo. Olly met us at the apartment and was very nice and helpful. All amenities we needed were at the flat which was great.

  • Oh the view was just amazing!!!! Waking up looking at the ocean was simply superb. The house was well kept, plenty of utensils and crockeries. The location was ideal, not too close to the city but not too far from the city either. The host was amazing, had everything ready for us before we arrived. Can't wait to go back :)

  • OceanBreeze was a fantastic place to stay, we were a party of 4, 3 adults and a child. The apartment was clean and well appointed. The ocean view magnificent. Olly and her family were lovely, very helpful in every way. They gave us transfer contacts, showed us lovely restaurants and gave us advise on what to experience in Sri Lanka. If we had more time, we would of gone back for a day or two. We will return.

  • Colombo doesn't offer many things imho but staying at Ollys place, just 5 minutes from the beach was the best thing we could do in this city. Very welcoming, warm, with lots of tips for food. Would book it again in a second! :)

    Marie2018-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • While we had a short stay, and did not get to meet Olly personally, the accommodations were lovely, the view was amazing and the location was great for getting around the area. Olly was also very helpful and available to us while there and answered any questions we had. This location is a 45 minute drive from the airport but once you get to the area and see the beach, it's worth it. If ever in Colombo again, would stay here. Great price. Thanks Olly.

Though, you will not miss the view since there is a separate first floor Lounge Balcony for anyone to access. So if the specific dates you looking are not available in one listing, try the other one it might have luck. ** If you wish to have a room type please inquire us before sending the reservation request. If you send the reservation request we are bound to accept it since we have availability; even if the room type available is another room type.
Mirissa is well known for it's beach; additionally it's filled with lot of restaurants with popular Sri Lankan cuisines and popular for activities such as whale watching, catamaran boat rides, surfing, Ayurveda spas, and many more.
  • Wonderful place to stay in! You'll love it. From the moment you get there until you leave. Make sure you get binoculars if you're on the 1st floor as the view from the balcony is great & you can spot many of the forest's life going about. Charindu is very kind & his father even gave us a tour of the plantation behind the villa.

  • Peacocks Villa is a very beautiful and lovely place to have a holiday. The room was clean and comfortable. The houseowners were so kind to prepare fresh juices and had turned on the AC when we checked in. The villa is nere to Mirissa Beach that you can go by walk.

Self contained apartment with 4G WIFI...three balconies, living room with books/ kitchen space, bedroom and bathroom. APARTMENT DETAILS: Self contained, three balconies, living room, bedroom and bathroom. All mod cons, 4G WiFi, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, gas cooker, washing machine, all inclusive, no extra charges. A home away from home! This is a hidden treasure in Galle Fort- a UNESCO world heritage site. Myself and my wife Moninna are retired bankers and are most happy to welcome and host you in the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. Our homely self contained apartment has full facilities in case you wish to eat in. At the bottom of our street there is a little corner shop which sells many things you may need, or take a short tuk tuk trip into Galle town for a larger supermarket. We can recommend a good driver for you. Galle Fort itself is also full of delightful cafes and restaurants which offer food throughout the day from breakfast-dinner.
  • We spent three nights in Galle and had the most amazing time, rising early every day to walk around the old and new parts of town before the heat set in. And then repeating the loop of the Fort in the evening before finding a good place for dinner - one thing is for sure, the locals in Galle sure can cook. Our time in Galle was made all the better by staying with Ranjit and his family in their lovely apartment above the family home. Ranjit is a gentleman and a gracious host. He gave us advice and suggestions when we asked, and he and his wife made us feel welcome by inviting us to share an afternoon snack (of curd and the famous treacle honey) with them. Had we stayed longer I imagine we would have spent many such moments with Ranjit learning about his town and country. Our trip around Sri Lanka was extraordinary, our time in Galle a highlight. I would recommend this cosy, well appointed apartment in the centre of the Fort to anyone who wants the comfort of home abroad, and wants to learn a more than a guide book can offer about life in the southern part of Sri Lanka.

    Nicki2015-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Ranjit and Moninna's apartment is lovely, sunny and in a great location in Galle Fort. The living room space opened up onto a green courtyard full of birds and chipmunks on the one side and the other side onto a nice road. Both sides have balconies as well. Ranjit and Moninna are very kind hosts and I also shared some lovely home cooked meals with them. It is a very relaxing central place to stay which offers great value. Lovely experience. Thank you both so much! Nanet

    Nanet2016-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely charming flat, with two balconies making it possibly the coolest place in Galle temperature wise. Ranjit and his family were very welcoming and great hosts

    paul2016-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly special place. Ranjit and Moninna are two of the loveliest people. They took us in and treated us like family. The location is perfect and the private apartment is very beautiful. Ranjit and Moninna are always available to welcome you in the gorgeous shared space (with incredible plants and even tortoises!) or to leave you to yourself if you prefer. We would consider coming back to Sri Lanka just to stay with them. Thank you Ranjit and Moninna for an incredible stay!

    Emily2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ranjit was welcoming from the beginning. He organized a pickup from the airport for me which was I grateful for. The apartment is a real little haven in Galle - ideally situated in the center of the Fort and close to the ramparts. The apartment is in a charming Dutch colonial house with an indoor garden and a chipmunk comes to visit the balcony. The apartment is spacious and clean. Nice to be able to speak with Ranjit and his wife. Highly recommended!

    Olivia2016-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Charming place in the heart of historic Galle Fort. Ranjit was a big help organizing a reasonable transfer to the airport. Plus he is a perfect adviser for local food and activities in and around Galle. Many thanks again!

    Florian2017-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful time staying with Ranjit and family. The flat is adorable and very well located within Galle Fort. The main house has been in their family since 1901 and it was such a privilege to get to spend a few nights in such a beautiful and historical place. While the flat didn’t have air-con which was an initial concern of mine, there are two separate balconies and a terrace that create a lovely cross breeze so it was always cool and comfortable. Thank you for an amazing stay.

    Sharone2018-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely flat in an ideal location, loads of character and friendly resident animals. It was particularly good to have while the weather was bad! Ranjit and his wife were great hosts: inviting us to tea, providing information and answering all our questions.

Small bungalow in a serene location next to the Hikkaduwa lagoon. Property includes 1/2 acre of landscaped garden, 10m x 3m private swimming pool and jetty on the lagoon. Separate kitchen and caretaker's room. 5 min tuk tuk ride from Hikkaduwa town.
Quiet and unspoiled natural location. The lagoon banks are lined with mangroves, and the jetty provides a great view of the water. We have many visiting birds including kingfishers, parakeets, orioles, woodpeckers and waders. Also a couple of water monitors. Canoe available for exploring the lagoon. Fishing rods and basic tackle box. Crate full of board games. Small bookshelf with selection of titles.
We are situated at the edge of a quiet, friendly local community. There are several fishermen on the lagoon - if you like fresh fish, they will deliver straight to the jetty! Hikkaduwa town and the bustling beach strip are a short distance away.
  • One of the best Airbnb's we've stayed in. Loved this place! A peaceful location on a lake, but yet a short tuk tuk ride into Hikkaduwa town for beautiful beaches, restaurants and cafes. We loved being able to take the canoe out onto the lake, and sitting on the deck watching the fishermen. Highly recommended.

    Sasha2017-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • We've reluctantly just left PJ's place after a wonderful week. A quick list of its virtues: It's secreted in the back roads away from the bustle of beach Hikkaduwa It overlooks a sleepy lagoon fringed with mangrove It is secluded, private and peaceful - so peaceful we spent a lot of time sitting identifying the visiting wildlife - from kingfishers and parakeets to orioles and herons - and a magnificent water lizard. Who needs a game reserve? The design and furnishing of the villa is simple, restrained and intelligent. Especially the awesome open air bathrooms. I could go on at length but I'll try keep this to a readable length. My enduring memory will be my birthday supper on the jetty overlooking the moonlit lagoon - possibly the best prawn curry I have ever eaten (with some stunning side dishes) - as fireflies flitted through the trees. All courtesy of Muthumal. He cooked some amazing food, looked after our every need, took us on adventures in the jungle and made sure that everything ran properly. We were worried we might be bored and have to find an excursion or two. Quite the opposite. We could happily have spent another week here. It also left us with a curiosity about PJ. A man who can create such a subtle and sophisticated retreat - and have an equally interesting bookcase containing essentials like Birds of Sri Lanka (we're not twitchers but we used it constantly), a bunch of Ellery Queen magazines, Lesley Charteris, Alistair McLean, some modern fiction and - my personal favourite which I was tempted to take with me - Handbook For The Ceylon Farmer - which I read cover to cover and was immensely useful in understanding what we saw in the jungle. All in all a magical romantic place that lingers in the memory. We'd go back in a shot.

    Ian2016-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Let me start by saying, the stay here for 3 days and 2 nights was absolutely magical, from great food decor and amenities to amazing hospitality by the caretaker. The attention to detail in this place is incredible every small little thing in the house has been carefully blended to the theme, the caretaker is an excellent cook preparing some authentic Sri Lankan food, there is a medium sized pool too for a dip, the beds are super comfortable with good air conditioning, best part of the stay here was that you can go canoeing in your very own Personal Canoe which is provided by the host, canoeing around was so serene and peaceful, also there is a gaming trunk filled with some board and card games. Open showers in this place make you feel like your probably staying in the middle of the jungle. To summarize I think it was a crazy experience and I would highly recommend this place if ppl wanna stay in Hikkuduwa. Thanks Purajitha for making this stay incredible :)

    Sachin2016-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • The place is great, the garden and the lake are wonderful. The jetty is great on a hot day. Service was good, the breakfast also very nice, we asked for local food. Not far from the center and center of Galle. Good location for taking different trips.

  • PJs house is just amazing - everything you see on the pictures is exactly like mentioned. We loved staying there and we will certainly come back. Pj is the best host we ever had - and we travel a lot! He is absolutely reliable, answers immediately, is always there when needed, always finds a quick solution whenever something occurs ( we need a good internet connection, due to our work, and he made even this point possible, which is not so easy sometimes in Sri Lanka - but he even managed this!). Dinish is the best Chef you can get and we just loved his food - and ginger is just adorable - everything was said before and we absolutely do agree and just want to say thank you and good bye, we will see us again at the best spot you can be in Sri Lanka ❤️

    Christina2018-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Try this place out!! It was amazing. If you see this on Airbnb and if you are looking to breakaway from a busy lifestyle and just relax with no distractions, PJ's hideaway is amazing. You've got a private pool and a deck leading to the lake. The rooms are comfy and the outdoor washrooms gives you the hint of luxury. The caretaker was great, and helped us with anything we needed. It's a place I'll go back next time I'm in town for sure.

  • Basis user feedback, I had booked this place for a group 4. The property is fabulous, next to the beach and the staff is very helpful and responsive. The view from the villa is stunning! I would definitely recommend this place to others as well.

  • This villa was a fantastic find. Sunil has designed it wonderfully to make the most of its fantastic location. He even designed the lovely huge wooden dining table! The infinity pool is even better than it looks in the pictures. In the afternoon most of the pool is shaded by the palm trees so you can float in the pool with flowers from the garden floating in the water and you can look out across the sand at the waves crashing on the beach. This stretch of beach is practically empty - the views are idillic. Breakfast every morning is heaven. Fresh local fruit salad with curd and honey. Rolled pancakes stuffed with a sweet coconut and saffron paste. Toast with jam. One evening, Sunil offered to cook for us. He used to run a restaurant and the food he prepared was a testament to that - it was absolutely delicious (and, as we had requested, not at all spicy). Whenever we needed help with anything, there was always a helpful member of staff waiting in a side office to assist us. He even tried to entertain our 18-month old son so that we could enjoy the afternoon tea that he made for us each day. I can't recommend this villa highly enough.

  • We had a wonderful holiday. What an amazing location. Rustic seaside Sri Lankan charm. The view is heavenly. Loved listening to and watching the sea and we didn't have to venture too far afield to be able to go in it. There is a natural lagoon just up the beach with the chilled Wijaya beach cafe or head to Unawatuna beach for waves (we loved Kingfisher cafe) or if you want REAL waves, Mirissa beach is about 35 minutes in a tuk tuk. Adored the monkeys who joined us at breakfast time (I hope they have returned - they disappeared on our penultimate day but Sunil said they'd gone on holiday!) Enjoyed Tuk tuk trips into Galle Fort, lunches at various beaches and lolling in the pool at the villa, watching the ocean through the palm trees. We were looked after 24 hours a day by the lovely team of three. It was a sad farewell when we left for the airport last night!

  • Absolutely excellent. Absolutely excellent team taking care of you and the premises. Beautiful private part of the beach, and still 5min walking distance from calm snorkelling lagoon where kids can swim and adults can snorkel with giant turtles. Can only highly recommend.

  • Incredible ecperience, very nice place!!highly recommed!! The villa is just on the way from Mirrisa to Galle, just near the sea,on the beach, having wonderful sea view, very good location! The owner and the boys gave lots of helps.Served a very good breakfast which is totally over my expectation. The restaurant next to the villa also served a nice menu, price of dinner is good, recommed! The villa has a small pool u can try swim there. All the furnitures are antic,so it is very funny especially the bed is also very old, nice decoration and comfy beds!

  • Luxury stay in a beautiful house and setting. All the service of a 5 star hotel in a private home. Sunil and his team were attentive to the needs of the family. Lovely breakfast included, scrumptious home cooked meals upon request. Highly recommendable to anyone looking for a relaxing, stressless vacation by the sea!

  • Throughly enjoyed our stay at Sunil's villa. The villa was well appointed with all rooms having an ensuite. Our kids spent many hours in the pool and also playing on the beach making sandcastles etc. Breakfasts were great with fresh fruit etc. There are a number of restaurants which are a short tuk tuk ride away so good is not a challenge at all. Great value for the standard of accommodation and service...we'll be back for sure

It's a secluded little gem run by very lovely family. Nilantha is very helpful and makes himself available for whatever one may need.
