This is a distance Kumamoto about 50 minutes, and twenty minutes Yamaga urban countryside, if you like the country people will love it here. Toilets are latrines, fun experience. Son ken owner very kind person, prepared rice, cooking kits, to meet us drinks, but also prepared a BBQ stove and use carbon to give us. Although there is no big pot we need (Rainy Day cooking pot is great! We left one), but a small pot to cook instant noodles ease. Oh, except there is no hair dryer, the other everything. Ken and his friend are very nice, preparing rice, drink and food for us. It cost 20mins to the city, people who like country side must like here. (Like me) (But if you do not like, plz do not rent.) Thx ken, I had a wonderful trip there.

I want to remind you that the first day had only speak Korean well, He He really nice Mr. Koji standing! So first off, Kiyoaki is an absolutely amazing host. Not only was he super responsive and communicative, he did all sorts of things to make things easier and more comfortable for me during my stay at his place. These include, but are not limited to, picking me up from the nearest bus station at the beginning of my stay, driving me to the nearest grocery store to pick up supplies, dropping off rice, soy sauce, and water bottles for me to cook with and consume, and borrowing a bike from a friend so I could use it to ride around and explore. And, when he had time off from work he took me around to places in Yamaga and Kumamoto (temples, museums, restaurants, etc.)! I am not sure if his work/life schedule will always allow for him to give this much of his time to his guests, but it seems at the very least he will always be a helpful, gracious, and attentive host. And although he only knows a small bit of English, he always took great pains to communicate and we got along just fine with the occasional assist from (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Translate (of course if you know Japanese, unlike unprepared me ha, you'll be just fine). As for the cabin itself, it is very nice. Simple for the most part, but very clean and pretty spacious with all the essential amenities: great wifi, great shower with hot water, a nice kitchen with the necessary implements, and even a computer you can use (helpful for me since I was just traveling with my phone). It could get a little hot inside the buildings but what else would you expect from Japan in the summer ha, and also one of the rooms does have an air conditioner if you just can't stand the heat. On a similar note, if it's a warm season be prepared for bugs and spiders because they're everywhere, but also you get to see geckos, salamanders, and lots of butterflies so the nature vibes are overall pretty good! Lastly, the location of the place is very nice. Just far enough out so you feel like you're almost in the woods, but only like a 20 min bike ride (shorter drive or longer walk) to a grocery store, and a little bit longer to Yamaga city, which isn't very big but has some cool things to check out (Onsen, Paper Lantern Museum, temples, restaurants and shops, etc.). But the area immediately around the house is really wonderful, especially if the weather is nice, kind of exactly what I pictured when I wanted to get out to the Japanese countryside for the first time. Lots of places to run and bike around, etc. And also Kumamoto city is only an hour bus ride away and well worth checking out if you have time! Overall I had a really wonderful time at Kiyoaki's place - I would have been more than happy to just spend my time relaxing/running/biking/chilling peacefully,...

The host was very kind to prepare kotatsu, disposable heating pad and electric heater though, I think it is cold to stay there in winter because it didn't get hot inside of the log house.

It was quiet and calm place. Also nearby spa town, I think that it can enjoy if you like hot spring. Thanks to that I have you firmly above all for the price of this cheap and the corresponding (such as the proposal of the car pick-up to the spa town). Thank you very much.

A super host with a lovely house in a quiet nice setting! Place is as described a traditional Japanese house with all all needed amenities. Ken is extremely accommodating and punctual. I had a great time staying at the Samurai house and visiting Kumamoto and surrounding areas! Highly recommended! And yes I would come back in a heart beat!

It was a wonderful once in our lifetime experience to stay in Jun's Samurai House. We had a good communication with Jun, the service was good, and the hospitality was excellent. This all together made it possible that we felt home in our "own Samurai House" for one night.

Upon check-in, meet at an easily accessible location, we were led to accommodation. Futon and towels, etc. also prepared to ready-to-use as preparation Attari, was a peripheral eateries also who have prepared a list of handwriting. A very nice, traditional big mansion, with a lot of Japanese decoration. Very fun to live in this house. Jun's brother, Ken is very nice and helpful that he brought us to the mension. As the house is located away from city centre, so it is better to have a car or bicycle with you when you choose this.

This is a great property! It might be slightly off the beaten track, but that adds to the charme! The house itself is fantastic, well equipped, very spacious, lots of history, packed with fascinating artefacts, a real treasure trove. The host was amazing - we felt so well looked after. The five of us were ferried to and from the centre of town by him and a friend, including a siteseeing tour of Kumamoto. They could not have been more helpful, friendly, or kinder. A big recommendation!

Excellent place with a fantastic meal. Location is a few minutes walk from a major hot spring and a temple. Koji is an awesome host, that was able to recommend places close by to catch the New Years sun rise.

This appartement was very quiet, tidy and comfortable. There are a toilet a bed and an access to wi-fi. But you can take shower, there is a beautiful onsen near the room.

Koji is a very good host and extremely interesting and fun to talk to. The room is also quite nice, but it really does not not have a bathroom and the only sink is the one on top of the toilet. If you want to take a shower you have to go to the local sento or the onsen, which aren't too far away. That being said, it is still very nice to stay at Koji's since at his Izakaya you will definitely come in contact with the local people. Koji himself speaks pretty good English and can tell you a lot about Japanese (and Korean) culture! I had a great time staying there and if you can get by without a bathroom and don't mind being a little outside the city it is a good pick!

Simple plain accommodation of bedroom and toilet with wash basin above. Superb hot spring public onsen 15 min walk away for a good wash and soak. Delicious supper cooked by our host in his restaurant below the room included in price.

When this Golden Week was one night at Cozy's shop. Room clean and stay uncomfortable thing is no apparent seupnidaman no, no bathroom (with washbasin) recommended him traveling alone or with friends rather than family unit. A pretty typical & traditional Japanese house !! Although it's a little bit far away from the downtown, there is a bus stop nearby which the bus takes 15-20 mins to the downtown. The accommodation and environment are really comfortable and peaceful. The staff is really nice and prepared fine breakfast for me. I do recommend this house for people who are looking for accommodation in Kumamoto!!

Kota's place is great. Well located, it is about 15 min walk from all major tourist attractions. It is as well 10 min by walk from a train station and there is a bus stop just 2 minutes away. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It is all equipped with heating / AC. The common space are big and clean and the people there really nice. Kota took time to explain me around and even took me to a hair dresser :) We also had dinner together and he is really nice company.

The guesthouse is very good located close to several public transfers. The room was lovely prepared and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need. Kota is a very nice guy and made our stay in Kumamoto wonderful. I would definitely recommend this guesthouse.

I really liked it here. Furnishings were good, we could cook whenever we wanted. Free we could wash clothes. Everywhere was clean and tidy. The apartment was in a quiet location, 10 minutes walk from Kami-Kumamoto Station. Very highly I recommend to everyone who plan to travel this area. Single supplement - if you like long Pośpiech morning, you better do not choose the room "washitsu" because it is located next to the living room and kitchen and morning activities other roommates you can interfere. But if you're like us, risers, it's perfect and very comfortable room, Japanese style.

Value for money.

I never got to meet Kota, but he was easy to reach and provided detailed instructions on how to check into his apartment. The simple tatami room was clean, and so were the shared bathroom, kitchen, and common area. There were two tenants who live there longer term, but I rarely saw them. So, you may end up with the place mostly to yourself. Note, this room faces the street, and it may not be suitable for light sleepers. Otherwise, it was a good stay overall.

The room is Japanese style, it is very nice since it is the first time I tried this bedroom style. Actually it felt like home! It is a good choice to live with a group of friends or family.

Really nice host. Very spacious place. There is only one bath and toilet, so if you are going there with around 10 people, make sure arrange your bath time properly. it's a very quite place, and in general pretty good.

Junko-San and her husband gave me warm welcome when I got there even though I arrived at their house much earlier than scheduled time. The rooms were well organized and really comfortable to stay there. Also they gave me a lot of information about Kumamoto and volunteer works there, which helped me. Thank you two and I enjoyed sharing our international experiences under beautiful full moon !

Nearby is mostly a residential area, is a very quiet place (posterior darker at night, but to be safe), if you want to try traditional Japanese housing and away from the city can be considered; and eating less near the place, only closer a pub, but full of delicious! In addition, if opened by the Bodo come here, you need to pay attention to the problem of transfer! But the owner and his wife are very friendly, would explain a lot of things after the step, so do not worry ~~ :)

It was a fantastic, memorable experience staying with Junko and her husband. I came to Kumamoto to do some volunteer work and I was warmly welcomed by Mr. and Mrs. Hasebe. They were very helpful in providing information regarding the area and city, and even drove me and my friend to the volunteer center one day! The level of hospitality provided was absolutely amazing. Just all around great people and it was a pleasure to get to know them! The house rented is a cozy yet spacious Japanese style home with a gorgeous garden and Japanese style tatami mat room. Very clean and well supplied. There is a tram station only 5 minutes away, a great itzakaya, coin laundromat, convenience store and restaurant all within the neighborhood. While it isn't located in the city center, it is nice to stay in an area that is more peaceful and quite. I had a great time and definitely want to come back in the near future! Highly recommended!

It was a perfect Japanese traditional tatami room for a family and friends. The host and her husband are really nice and welcoming. It seemed they enjoy having as many guests from any corner of the world! We had a conversation in Japanese but the host seems to speak English and they have a En map of their neighborhood. There is one Onsen place near-by. Though there was a big earthquake in Kumamoto, her house is safe enough and the neighborhood shops and restaurants has already resumed the operation. No prob. for water supply and electricity as well. As long as you bring your own sheets and pillow case, you can enjoy your stay with Japanese tradition mattress setts, Futons.

And,lots of thanks for Junko and her husband's kind help,so that could I find a much easier way to start from the house to Kumamoto port,later arrive in Shimabara city by ship. Kimiko is a very cordial host and she will for sure do everything her guest feel a well and warmly welcome. She and her friendly son took time to share a tea and conversation on arrival also to find out special needs of the guest. I found, the house has french charm. The accomodation is well placed in beautiful Kumamoto and once you know where you are, it is easy to find and near city, sights, and with good public transportation facilities. I recommend to have a Yukata or similar with because for toilet and shower you have to use a outside stairs near a small street. I will stay here again.

Yuzuke San is a very decent man, he offered us BBQ upon our arrival. By the house surrounding, knowing Yusuke San is enthusiastic about the nature, especially mountain climbing. Probably he likes outdoor activities, the accommodation is like a camp site. Traveler expects proper room might not be suitable. Driving travelers need to be very careful with the GPS direction, it took us more than 20mins to locate the place actually close to us with in 50 feets. It would be good for the host in Japan to use (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) for arrival communication purpose.

Yusuke knows little English but he printed all the info I need in Chinese. Not to mention the hot drink he offered every night. He indeed is a great host.

好有江戶時代感覺的房屋,十分好的體驗

We stayed in the house for one week while visiting friends and family in the Kumamoto area. The house is a unique mixture of the old and new; a traditional Japanese wooden structure that has been fitted out with very modern conveniences for the comfort of guests - including good wi-fi, a giant TV (with samurai and go/shogi channels!), dishwasher and a science fiction washing machine, all much appreciated. It seems to be quite a labour of love! We were not able meet Hiroaki san, but a university student greeted us and she was very helpful, even after out stay making sure we received some things left behind! We found the air conditioning unit was able to keep the place warm and cool as required. The location is excellent, a few minutes walk from the castle park, 15 minutes walk from the centre of Kumamoto. Nearby bus stops allow easy access to the railway station. It was a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay and we would definitely return if we need to stay in Kumamoto city again. The house is located next to a highway (but is above and back from the road) that is very busy during the rush hour, so you cannot expect perfect quiet, but we never had any trouble sleeping. Staying in the unique house was a lovely experience and in itself a nice part of the holiday.

Hiroaki San has been a wonderful host. Very prompt with responding the emails and providing us with the required information such as GPS details to get to his house. It was a shame that we only had one night in Kumamoto and it was pouring when we arrived in the city. As such, we did not have the chance to enjoy the city but Hiroaki San's house had provided us with the warm and comfort as if it is our home. We had a good night of rest. We only have one feedback that we thought it may be a good to know information for other travelers when considering staying at the house. Hiroaki San's house was not built on the level ground. To get to the house, one needs to climb up a flight of rather steep stairs built with rocks. For backpackers or travelers with small luggage, i believe there should not be any problem. unfortunately for our case, it was a huge challenge. There was no way for us to lug our big suitcases up the stairs in a stormy weather. (Hiroaki San did offer to help.) We had therefore made a decision to only take the necessities for the night and leave the luggage in the car so as to avoid injuring ourselves while transporting the luggage. Other than the stony stairs, we were happy that we had chosen to stay at Hiroaki San's house. He is a very considerate host. Constantly sending emails to remind us to drive safely etc. I have stayed with other AirBNB in other parts of the world. He is the only host that provided his guests with a cupboard of towels! We really appreciated the nice gestures. Thank you Hiroaki San. Hopefully, when we visit Kumamoto the next time, the weather is nicer and we are able to enjoy the city and your house better.

Great location in the centre of the city with a large grocery store 2 minutes away. Kumamoto is still recovering from a devastating earthquake (April 2016). Please visit this lovely city. It's a great place to discover and experience Japanese culture, the people and fresh local foods.

Very nice and old-fashioned villa nearby Kumamoto Castle. Our family enjoyed the three nights in this house. The host is very nice and easy to communicate. He prepared some snacks and fruits for us and drive us to the railway station on the departure day. The well-equipped kitchen will be great for prepare a traditional Japanese cuision.

Rich amenities

This is a beautiful space right next to the castle. Hiroaki offered to pick us up from the station and gave us a tour of the place. The house would be great for a family to stay as there is lots of space.

The landlord is very good, we will reach out to meet us, but also for us to get heavy luggage. Clear description of all facilities in the room, basically communicate in English is no problem. Provide a lot of card game board game room, Yoshitomo confidant very appropriate.

Very close to the local tram, which can easily take you to Kumamoto Castle area or Suizen-ji/Izumi shrine. A great ramen place is a 5 minute walk away towards the bridge. Comfortable room with a fan, water, and nice bed. One bathroom but I didn't have a problem with anyone else needing it while I used it.

ラウンジとベッドルームが別の階にあり、荷物などのセキュリティ面が少し心配でした。私が宿泊した際は貸しきりだったので快適でしたが、他の宿泊客がいると、トイレと風呂がユニットバスで一つしかないので大変かなとは思います。平日などの宿泊客が少ないときの利用はかなりいいと思います。オーナーの方のメールの返信なども迅速でよかったです。

good supporting and nice location

We had a very nice stay at Naomi and Frode's apartment at Kumamoto. The location is perfect. It's around 10 to 15 minutes walk to the central shopping area and Kumamoto Castle. It takes 5 minutes walk to the nearest tram stop. The room is clean and the amenities are well prepared. The hosts, Naomi and Frode, are friendly, communicable, responsible, and reachable.

We were very happy with our stay in Naomi and Frode's impeccable, welcoming apartment. The place is spotless, has a very pleasant atmosphere, and is equipped with everything you may need for a short stay. Although we did not get to meet our hosts in person, they did everything to make sure everything was in order, and we feel like we know them a little already. There is a large construction site across the street, but the noise won't bother you once you close the window. We definitely recommend the place, and have already booked our next stay in the apartment!

Had a great time at Naomi & Frode's place. Very close to everything and its a little quieter than I expected for a busy street. Definitely recommend.

Naomi and Frode made dropping into their place quite a breeze. The area is close to some great stuff in Kumamoto - everything is reachable by foot. The house is nice and clean and has access to decent cooking facilities which for me is a plus.

The apartment is well equiped with all bathroom and kitchen amenities, we have great experience that we cooked by ourself during two nights staying in the apartment. The host is very nice and fast responses. Although we had rent a car, but we had not use it as the apartment is very near the Kumamoto Castle and shopping centre.

The environment of this place is very noisy. The appartment is directly located in front of an intersection and a big construction site. You can hear the sounds from the street all the time (traffic light signal, often the ambulances with horns (also at night) and trucks). At 8am in the morning the workers begin to work on the construction and you are not able to sleep any longer. The doors of the appartment's balcony are too thin to keep the noise outside even when everything is closed. I cannot recommend this place to others that are noise-sensitive for the next x month till the construction is finished. Netherless the appartment itself is really nice: central, very well equipped, well maintained, comfy, clean. We never met the hosts, but the info they provided are much and very useful. 4 of 5 stars because it wasn't mentioned in one word in the description that there is such a big construction site directly in front of the appartment which is just unfair to guests.
