Hayling Island is only 20 mins away and has more than three miles of fine sandy beaches. it’s actually divided into several beaches but there are three which have been awarded Blue Flags:
- Beachlands,
- West Beach
- Eastoke Corner

Southsea has a long pebble beach with funfair and amusement park, D-Day Museum and Royal Marine Museum. Boat rides and cafes. Tourist tat in abundance!

The Isle of Wight is separated from Portsmouth by the Solent, but you could always get a ticket to Ryde… only 20 mins on the ferry.
The Red Funnel ferry terminal in Portsmouth and hovercraft terminal in Southsea, both of which go to Ryde, are only 20 mins from here. You could take a 30 min bus ride from there to Cowes and enjoy lunch at the Smoking Lobster. If you’d like to take your car, you need to travel from Southampton then the whole island and its many attractions are your oyster… Perfectly possible as a day trip.
