All about Wells-next-the-Sea

The seaside resort of Wells-next-the-Sea has an enviable location on the north Norfolk coast in the east of England. Here you can look out across the sandbanks to the North Sea. The local harbour is guarded by a 10-foot sculpture called the Lifeboat Horse, made from whisky barrels and steel bars, while the striking gantry jutting out from the former granary building serves as a reminder of the commercial power this port once enjoyed in the grain and malting industry. Wells Beach is a one-mile stretch of shoreline that takes you past fishing boats integral to the livelihood of the local community. The beach forms part of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is flanked by a forest of pine trees and colourful beach huts.

You can ride on a miniature railway train that runs from the beach into town, hopping off to stroll around Staithe Street with its independent retailers and cafes or meander the streets of The Buttlands, a green oasis surrounded by lime trees and houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, along with a former coaching inn where you can stop for a refreshing drink.
