Oceanfront "Treehouse" at Hakalau with Kitchen

GregoryRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
My partner, Stacey, and I stayed six nights here. Photos and descriptions are accurate. The property management company was extremely responsive to questions (i.e. seconds). We enjoyed the private and quiet, cliff-top ocean-view location. The location is very beautiful. Stacey enjoyed meeting the home-owner, Alan, who was present in his adjacent residence for a few days. We appreciated the box of beach goodies: chairs, umbrellas, beach matts, boogie board, floats, frisbee, etc. Kitchen is well equipped, and even had ice packs for the soft cooler that we brought with us to Hawaii. There were some basic cooking supplies that other guests presumably left behind (i.e. tea, cooking oil, sugar cubes, salad dressing). There was no coffee, however. We contributed peanut butter to the stockpile. YMMV.

Forest Hale Cabin @ Permaculture Farm, Waterfall

SharonRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
The Forest Hale Cabin, located on a permaculture farm in the coastal hills north of Hilo, is a unique, relaxing retreat. Located at the end of a narrow paved road that passes by herds of cattle and snowy egrets, the house sits in a lush food forest surrounded by a variety of tropical fruit trees. I enjoyed uploading pictures of the different plants to iNaturalist to identify them. The swimming hole - a short walk from the house - is a magical spot located at the base of a small waterfall surrounded by ferns and bamboo. It was fun to swim and play in, and we even saw a large crayfish foraging near the edge. We slept incredibly well with the sound of the coqui frogs at night and wind in the early morning. Though it feels remote, the cabin is only a half hour away from Hilo and a short drive to numerous waterfalls and beaches. It's a great base for exploring the windward side of the island.

Royal Palm Cottage

JesRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Loved listening to nature every evening and morning while out on the lanai. While in the condo, with the air conditioner and fan on, we didn't hear a peep, so no disruptions to our stay at all....even with the dog kennel down the hill. Absolutely great base of operations for our stay and road trip around the island!
