“Karen and Jimbo's place was just as described and wonderful. The hosts were quick to answer questions, the staff was fantastic, the place was clean as a whistle, and the location was great. Lorenzo even dropped off fresh squeezed orange for us! The deck overlooking the ocean is amazing. The location is very good as it is not near the central or north areas which are much more crowded, and where the cruise ship day trippers go. Recommended: a hike at Punta Sur, day trips to Capitan Dulche Beach Club (where chairs are free and they have a pool and great service including food and beverage), brunch at the Mango Cafe, and empanadas at the little place just down the hill (can't remember the name! It is a tiny place that does mainly take out and the empanadas are to die for.). Another good restaurant is La Lomita more near the center of town. There is a new craft brewery, Isla Brewing Co (very good!) nearby, the only one on the island - as well as a bakery just down the street that has breads and cakes that are much better than the usual Mexican bakery fare. Other places we'd recommend include Coco Jaguar, Green Verde and Madera Food and Art. Make sure to check the hours of these places cause lots are open only until 3:00 and not on Sunday. We are not big shoppers, but we visited the Isla Mujeres Womens Beading Cooperative - which sells hand made beaded earrings, bracelets and necklaces, etc for very low prices. Lovely beaded earrings starting at $2.50 USD - I bought these as gifts for my daughter and granddaughter. It's nice to know your tourist dollars go to crafts people in the community and not just to things made in China. Isla Mujeres is small, and we walked a lot! We also had a golf cart a few days of the trip, and took taxis some evenings. Karen and Jimbo have a very good online resource book with tons of tips about travel, the ferry, places to eat, how to get pesos, how to reserve a golf cart, etc etc. that made everything about our visit carefree. We had a very good time and want to give a special shout out to the staff. I understand that most of the staff who stops by to clean, check in, etc, have been with Karen and Jimbo for ten years or more. It shows. They are dedicated, fun, and just wonderful people. We very much enjoyed meeting them and the special care they showed to us. The only two hitches in our trip were a non-functioning pool heater that they worked hard to fix and some barking dogs at a home down the street which interrupted the sleep of the folks in the back bedroom. Shutting the window and turning on a fan or the AC and using earplugs is a good solution. If you are planning a trip to Isla Mujeres you can feel confident in renting this wonderful flat. Worth noting, too, that even tho there are two units about this one we rarely heard or saw the other renters and it felt very private. The condo is beautiful and comfortable, it has plenty of kitchen supplies to cook a nice meal and the roof top deck is the perfect place for a nap or quiet morning. The location is perfect, easy walking distance to playa norte and all the downtown eating and shopping. Thank you for another lovely stay on Isla!”
