The apartment is in a terrace house without an elevator in Päivölä, which was completed in 1939. The center of Kotka is about 13 km and Karhula about 3 km. The apartment has been renovated as much as possible to its original state, and it is furnished on a circular economy basis, mainly with furniture designed by Aalto. The house was built in 1948, just after the Continuation War. Information about its history is a bit difficult to find, but at some point the house has been inhabited by stevedores working in the nearby old port, and from that the house has been named the "stevedore house".
