Ashikaga-dera, where this inn is located, is a historic village at an altitude of about 400 m at the foot of Mount Tateyama.This is a historic village of Tateyama faith, nestled deep in the Tateyama Mountains at their foot. During the Edo period, it functioned as a gateway to the "other world (mountain)" and as a village that welcomed pilgrims from all over the country in its shukubo lodges. There were 33 shukubo lodges, which welcomed pilgrims from all over the country who were heading for Mount Tateyama.People stayed here, prayed, and then set off for the sacred mountain, Tateyama. Even today, the village retains its former appearance, with landmarks such as Oyama Shrine, the Nakamiya Prayer Hall, the famous red wooden bridge known as Nunohashi, which is considered the Sanzu River separating the living world from the underworld (the world after death), Enma-do, Yamandara Yuen, and the former shukubo.
