“Staying at the carriage house was a financial splurge for my budget and worth every single penny. A beautiful peaceful space in a beautiful peaceful neighborhood. It was the rest from the road me and my dog needed. He flopped down on the floor and didn’t worry or fuss while I brought things in. Not his usual behavior. Even he thought it was peaceful. I would definitely splurge again!”

“Diane and Corey are SUPER hosts! Not only is their place tastefully decorated and well appointed, but it is super comfortable as well. They have thought of everything to include ample pillows and plush bath towels to tea and coffee choices. They even left snack items for us to enjoy- what a treat! Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing, restful stay!”
****Due to the current health crisis, I have changed my minimum night stay requirement to 2. Additionally, to maintain CDC guidelines, I have placed a day between reservations . My place is close to agriculture and farm life. You’ll love my place because of the views, the coziness, the unique-ness, the farm experience, the quiet outdoors. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. ***Stays are always available without the breakfast option at reduced rates.
“Future travelers. . .if you are looking for a unique and remote adventure, then The Has Bin should be on your list. It would be one thing if I was trying to convince you to try something different, but since you already found this page then you are on the right track. We had never heard of Alvin, Illinois until I visited Mary Kay's website. I was intrigued. Partially because of the small town experience but mostly because of The Bin. It's a creative use of space and by far the most unique property I/we have stayed in. When was they last time you slept in a former grain bin? The vintage touches take The Has Bin to the next level. There's a second-story deck that faces the west to watch the sunset. There's a nice front porch with a swing that faces the east to enjoy your coffee as the sun rises, an incredibly cute claw foot tub, the vintage stove used for storage, tasteful touches fill the room that remind you off farm life on the prairie. It's simply a neat place. We sat by the fire pit every night and also played board games and cards in the new game room and under the pavilion. Our hosts were great. Mary Kay and Stan are warm and inviting. I've seen it mentioned in other reviews and simply forgot about the welcome treat. So we were delighted with the delicious welcome cookies. Mary Kay's breakfasts were delicious and hearty. I felt like going out and putting in a full day's work on the farm (I didn't). We also enjoyed the tour of the farm as a family. Farm life is not something that's ever been a part of my world, but we really enjoyed learning more about the farm and Stan's passion for his work is evident. As far as the trains, we found them charming. Sure they take a minute to get used to but the trains are just as much a part of the overall experience as Mary Kay's wonderful breakfasts, the design of the bin, or fishing in the pond. When you bundle it all together it's an experience I'm glad our family was able to enjoy. I would definitely visit again.”
