Space is located in one of the greatest beaches in the world for turtle nesting. There are 5 different species of turtles migrating to this beach each year for nesting. This is the only beach in Sri Lanka where you can see turtles laying eggs. And these tours are done by professional from home town who runs a project to save turtles and which benefits the local community. We also have a beautiful and peaceful beach full of seashells and rocks where you can have a dreamy sunset.
“I had a wonderful time at Sumudu's place. I was looking for a quiet place in nature at the beach and this is exactly what it is. It is very simple but beautiful. You see peacocks (!), large lizards and small monkeys in the garden and its surroundings. It was incredible to see the stars and the fireflies in the bushes that looked as if shooting stars were falling into Sumudu's garden. Sumudu and his business partner, the cook did everything to make my stay as comfortable as possible. They organized a yoga math for me and brought me to an Ayurveda treatment nearby. As a single female traveler, I always felt safe and relaxed at Sumudu's place. I wanted to try the local traditional curd with palm honey (highly recommend) which was not on the menu and they bought it for me, so I can try it. I had a wonderful time and highly recommend this small paradise.”

“A simple, relaxing place in a beautiful spot, BvR is the perfect way to get away from it all. We were a family of 4, with two boys aged 13 and 10. There were two small double beds, and our kids were (just) able to share that. The housekeeping was amazing. Sisira was a charming concierge. His English is limited but he manages to communicate and is lovely. He went above and beyond to help us, even coming with us to see the turtles on New Year’s Day despite there being a big family party for him at home. Athula’s food was great, we ate brilliantly every night. The property is simply decorated, and gives you all you need. The real highlight is the beach which is stunning and - literally - just at the end of the garden. It is practically empty during the day and we saw turtles laying their eggs two hundred yards from our steps one night. Walk twenty minutes along the beach to the left as you look at the ocean and there’s a cool little rock pool for swimming. We also ate at Ruwani which I can really recommend. Doesn’t look like much but the lady that runs it is great and the curry and rice was among the best we had all trip.”

“It’s not even a middle of nowhere, it’s the end of nowhere. Tranquility. Quietness. Isolation. Lonely beach. Rare people passing by. Absolutely unique location! Tangalle beach is a safe place – sometimes we even didn’t lock our hut, there are no people with bad intentions at all. Anke is one of the best hosts I have ever met on Airbnb. She was always in touch (easily reached by WhatsUpp), she always gave her recommendations and directions about local food, activities, places of interest, helped to organize airport transfer. Hut was exactly the same like on the photos, no surprises here. Kitchen was fully equipped with the gas stove, fridge, all necessary dishes, kitchen towels. Drinking water was included as well, which was of great value. Very simple shower and toilet, clean towels were provided as well. Mosquitos net on the bed saved a lot of our blood, mosquitos are extremely evil there. Please be ready to meet a lot of creatures inside the house – we personally met lizards and chipmunks (ground squirrels) – they became our good fellow friends. However, others made our life a bit uncomfortable: aints, rats, snakes, huge bugs, flies, insects. But that’s Asia and Mother Nature… You have to be prepared for that. Please be ready that you will not be able to swim on your beach, ocean is not calm at all, waves a pretty huge and quite dangerous. But if you will take tuk-tuk (300 LKR one way), driver can bring you to Cactus Lounge beach, and you can spend the whole day there, with calm and peaceful ocean, sun beds and delicious food. There are millions of restaurants on Tangalle Beach Road (the nearest restaurant is located next door, about 20 meters away from the hut. But the food is not good there, so I recommend to take a walk and try other restaurants, take a 30 minutes calm walk along the beach or the road). Small shop is available in the village (30 minutes walk). Important thing – house internet is extremely slow. I recommend you to buy Mobitel SIM (4G) in the airport. In conclusion I’d like to say – if you want to escape from urban world with it’s fussiness, nervosity and hubbub – get a ticket to Colombo, and stay in Anke’s bungalow. It’s an ideal retreat. Highly recommend you a host and the house.”
