  • Wonderful cottage in a tranquil relaxing space. Laura and Kiran left us great tips on activities and places to eat as well as local stops to shop at. Will definitely stay here again!

  • Beautiful decor and location. Surrounded by fragrant plants and nature (multiple bird species, deer, butterflies, and a friendly cat or two).

    Christopher2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage exceeded all expectations. Everything from the tea and muffins, to waking up in the forest to the sound of the brook. We also saw deer and were visited by two very nice kitties. The location is very quiet and quaint. I recommend Laura & Kiran’s place to ANYONE looking to explore the Bay Area !

    Tim2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place for a quiet getaway. The hot tub, serene location and view of the Bay Bridge were all highlights. 100% recommend!

    Sam2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean, very spacious, only thing I didn't think of that's no where else is the area has a lot of bugs. Not a huge problem inside, but there is a nearby Creek close enough that you can hear flowing water.

    Joshua2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Laura & Kiran's place well exceeded my expectations! It is truly a sanctuary amongst the trees. The hot tub is truly magical. They have created a very intentional and cozy space for their guests full of thoughtful touches! I hope to return! Thanks for everything!

    Tameron2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not do any justice at all. If you're contemplating between a few places in the area, this one is by far the one to experience! You will fall asleep to the sound of the creek right outside your window and wake up to chirping birds. I don't think I heard any other sounds unless I created them. There is also an incredible view of the sunset from the porch/hot tub or from the bed through the windows. Laura was so great and easy to communicate with. Even pushed my check out time so I could enjoy a few extra hours before heading out. What a great find for a last minute road trip!

    Cassie2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Laura and Kiran were fantastic hosts! If you’re looking for peace and quiet, then look no further. Cannot believe this gem is only a 25 minute train ride from SF. We will definitely try to stay here again next time we’re in town

There's hiking nearby, jogging trails as well. We love our coffee, fresh bread, cheeses, artisanal beer and farmers markets. Downtown San Francisco is about forty minutes away via our rapid transit system, BART. Our home is located in a quiet, tree-lined residential neighborhood near the UC Berkeley Campus. We walk everywhere - downtown, to different shopping districts. We also have plenty of street parking.
  • Susan’s space is nicely located in North Berkeley. Susan was very easy to communicate with, and this was a great value (especially given the location).

    Phil2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Susan was very welcoming and great at communicating prior to and during the stay. My mom and her friend really liked her place and her amazing hospitality! They spent a great week visiting San Francisco and surroundings. Highly reccomended!

    Gabriele2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Well located space, creatively burrowed into a house with interesting, tasteful decorations, a comfortable bed and all the amenities one could wish for. We enjoyed our stay and our hosts are clearly people who are willing to go the extra mile for their guests.

  • Super easy check-in and a great location.

    Nicolas2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Susan was an excellent and caring host. The space was clean and well appointed. The personal touches made you feel welcome right from the start. The coffee, tea, wine and beer in the mini fridge and bowls of fruit and candy were much appreciated. Susan is on site for any help you may need while in Berkeley, but out of sight if you are familiar. The space is walkable to the Gourmet Ghetto and it’s fine restaurants. It is also walkable to Solano Avenue shops and markets. The space was warmly decorated and it had everything you will need to enjoy your time in Berkeley. Thank you for a great stay.

    Catherine2020-01-29T00:00:00Z

Our newly remodeled 200 sq ft tiny house is a perfect Berkeley retreat. It is walking distance to BART into San Fran. (1 mile), Cal campus (1 mile), Gourmet Ghetto (world-class cuisine), Berkeley Rose Garden, and the Berkeley Marina (1.5 miles). We have 2 queen size beds including one in a relaxing loft space

The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We are walking distance to amazing restaurants, coffee, grocery markets and BART. Cal campus is 2 miles away or one stop on BART.
  • Beautiful unique experience! Nice family oriented neighborhood. The tiny house has all the amenities needed and more. I would visit again and again!!

    Alex2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy well appointed tiny house in north Berkeley that was perfect for us (one grownup and one preteen who could sleep in the loft). Coming from Europe, we appreciated that there were some shops and a nice cafe in walking distance; we walked to BART too.

  • Very clean and cozy tiny home in a quaint, quiet backyard in Berkeley. Everything you can possibly want or need is a short walk or drive from the home. Great for just staying in and chilling all day, or just crashing after a day of exploring the Bay Area.

    Ethan2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The space was truly unique and memorable. We’re looking forward to booking with Toby and Sonja again in the future.

    Tanae2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This space is great, definitely tiny, but perfect for a single traveler. The garden is wonderful and everything leading up to my stay was super easy.

    Ryan2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect home away from home in a wonderful neighborhood.

    Sarah2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is delightful. Super comfortable. Great location. And so appealing.

    Connie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • This tiny home is the perfect place, in the perfect neighborhood! We love the Bay and were so happy to be back, especially at the tiny house. The location is great for walking and enjoying the beauty of the bay, close to eateries and Salano Ave. - quiet, relaxing and beautiful neighborhood. Tony and Sonja were wonderful hosts! Their property is well thought out and maximizes every bit of space. The backyard your own little oasis. They also shared their bball hoop with our son! Such a thoughtful gesture. We will certainly be back!

Our newly built private cottage has its own bathroom, reading nook with comfy chair, new 27" Apple monitor for streaming videos, microwave, small fridge, and full-size bed. A REAL bed.
This sweet space is cozy but filled with southern light. You'll have access to a big yard with real grass (drought resistant!), lemon tree, lime tree, apple tree, rosemary bushes, jasmine, and a brick patio for al fresco dining or morning coffee. In addition to the fridge and microwave, you'll find a new coffee maker, fresh coffee, tea, hot chocolate and oatmeal. We'll make sure there's milk, and most importantly, a local craft brew to welcome you!
We're right on the Berkeley/Albany border, three houses from the corner of Solano. Solano Avenue is our main street, lined with restaurants, bars, salons, shops, grocery stores, a theatre, and cafes.
  • Perfect location for the activities we planned; quiet and clean; with an excellent neighborhood that boasts unique shopping and restaurant options all within walking distance! Exceptional lodging for one or two people who enjoy warm hospitality and comfy urban stays.

    Mary2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was our fist time staying at an Airbnb so we didn’t exactly know what to expect. Our stay was very pleasant. The cottage is located in the back yard of a charming house on a beautiful street. We arrived late after our hosts retired for the evening. We where able to get the key to the cottage from the lockbox hanging on the yard gate using the access code they provided. The way into the yard through the fence is a bit narrow due to a garden planter. This was no problem for us, but might be difficult to navigate with larger luggage. The cottage was spacious, charming and immaculately clean. We always found parking right in front of the house on all three days of our stay. We met our lovely host family as we left every morning at the same time they took there children to school. The house is walking distance from the charming shopping and restaurant village along Solano Ave. I would suggest eating at Zachary's Pizza, which is my favorite pizza parlor in the world. UC Berkeley is only a 15 minutes drive. I would definitely consider staying here again.

  • Stephen and Marin's place was really lovely for what I needed. I was in town for a week-long residency and was in meetings from 9 am to 9 pm daily. It was perfectly quiet, clean, plenty of parking, plenty of hot water for showers, and close to everything. Note that the entrance is a little tight if you have large bags as I did, but you can make do. Thank you again!

Detached cottage set in backyard with fruit trees and vegetable garden. Queen mattress and queen sofa bed. OUTDOOR-ONLY shower and sink and a modern "outhouse" with flushing toilet. Blocks away from famed Shattuck Avenue, a mecca for foodies. Fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker. This is a rustic space for adventurous guests who don't mind quirks.
A comfortable fusion of modern and rustic, this one-room detached cottage is set in a backyard with beautiful fruit trees and a vegetable garden. Super comfortable queen-sized bed. Two skylights fill the space with lights. The outdoor shower and sink are fully functional, as well as the modern "outhouse" with flushing toilet. If you do not like the idea of an outdoor bathroom, this place is not for you--there is no indoor bathroom! We provide organic shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The cottage also has a coffee maker, coffee grinder, electric kettle, mini-fridge, ironing board, iron, and hairdryer. There is usually plenty of free street parking. There is no central heat or air, just a fan and space heaters. There are no screens on the windows, though mosquitoes are not a problem in this area. You may see cobwebs! Again, this space is rustic. This neighborhood is residential, very convenient, and walkable. Definitely walk up to Shattuck Avenue to experience the food mecca! We're blocks away from famed "Gourmet Ghetto," a top destination for foodies. Many guests stay with us when dining at Chez Panisse, Berkeley's most famous restaurant. It is a 20-30 minute walk to UC Berkeley's campus. This is a friendly, quiet neighborhood close to amazing markets and restaurants. The North Berkeley BART station is a 15 minute walk or 3 minute Lyft ride away. What you get - 1 queen bed - Private outdoor-only bathroom (shower, sink, toilet) in shared backyard -Organic shampoo, conditioner, body wash - Coffee maker, microwave, electric kettle, & mini-fridge - Ironing board and iron - Blowdryer - Space heaters and fan - Wifi Note: The backyard is shared, and we have two young children, so no smoking outdoors (never smoking indoors) and no loud music after 8pm, please. It is never a problem to arrive LATER than the 3pm check in time, even late into the night. If you plan on arriving EARLIER than 3pm or need to check out later than 10am, check with us. We are friendly, easy-to-talk-to people with lots of suggestions for what to see, do, eat.
Excellent location close to food and shopping.
  • Exceptionally pleasant stay. The warmest of welcomes and very clear and fast on communication. The little cottage is immaculate, comfortable, stylish and equipped with everything you need. I loved the outdoor shower which I think is a very a intelligent feature for a small space to keep it clean and also nice experience. Overall great.

  • This was a perfect place for me on a quick trip, convenient to BART. I was back and forth between hikes in the hills, nearby restaurants, and events in San Francisco. The cottage was lovely. I got a bunch of work done in it when I wasn't sight-seeing. The facilities were nice. It was a step up from other local glamping offers. Leila is responsive.

    Kenning2019-05-30T00:00:00Z

Great southwest exposure with 3 bridge views, SF Bay, in a very safe and charming neighborhood in wonderful North Berkeley. Easy walk to Gourmet Ghetto, about 20 min walk to UC campus. Shared bath. Room has a couch and desk as well as bed. WiFi.
Big old Berkeley brown shingle cluttered, messy house, with 2 friendly cats. Room feels like grandma's sewing room, but without the grandma (yet) or any actual sewing getting done. Very casual environment. No smoking, of course, and respect for quiet hours a given. You have a shared bath, and can use second bathroom. if that one's occupied. It's myself and my long-term housemate/tenant; we both work at UC Berkeley. My college-age son is home summers and vacations as well. I've lived in the area all my life, so I'm a good resource for questions about restaurants, arts, things to do, etc. North Berkeley is a wonderful, leafy, safe neighborhood, and the food choices around town are beyond amazing, some of the best anywhere! I may be able to help with ride to/from BART sometimes if you need it. Antique double-bed with firm modern mattress, sofa could sleep one as well. Towels, sheets furnished. We'd love to introduce you to our great town! Perfect spot for visiting the UC Berkeley campus!
North Berkeley is home to the world-famous Gourmet Ghetto, including the iconic start of the new food movement, Chez Panisse. The nearby CheeseBoard is considered tied for best cheese shop in America, and serves a daily vegetarian pizza, and great pastries. The original Peet's coffee is also there. Just up the hill we have the lovely Berkeley Rose Garden and Codornices Park. Campus is also close, with all it has to offer, including the option of daily use at the Rec Sports Facility. Nearby Solano Ave has even more shopping, restaurants, a great bookstore, etc. Full of trees and very eclectic architecture - my house is over 100 years old!
  • Kim was quick to respond and very amenable. Beautiful home, amazing location!! So close to the Berkeley rose gardens/trails.

We have a single room in our home with a full size bed and large desk. We offer guests exclusive use of the main bathroom. Perfect for visiting students and teachers. Full use of the house. We have an adorable Teacup Chihuahua named Twig. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE DOGS, THIS IS PROBABLY NOT THE LISTING FOR YOU. We do contain our dog and any visiting dogs, but we want all guests to be as comfortable as possible during their stay. Zoning Cert: ZCSTR20170036
The room will comfortably accommodate two. It is very quiet and great for people who need to do work, study, read or who just want peaceful surroundings. There are plenty of books that guests can borrow while staying with us. There are drawers built into the bed as well as a closet with plenty of hangers for storage. Guests have full access to the house. There is a small smart TV in the guest room that gets MANY local channels, Hulu Plus, Netflix and Amazon Prime but no cable. We have a large shared kitchen that guests can use as well with cookware, dishes and silverware. For those interested, there is a piano in the living-room. We love getting to know our guests, but we certainly want to offer as much privacy as our guests need. The main bathroom is all yours as we have a bathroom in the master bedroom. We do have some things stored in the main bathroom, however, so we do need occasional access. The Berkeley Hills neighborhood is a beautiful, upscale area. It is absolutely safe, beautiful, and close to the UC Berkeley campus, downtown Berkeley, and Solano Ave as well as bus and BART lines. There is a 5 minute walk to the bus that will take you to the main BART (metro) line to San Francisco. There are many public transportation options as well as street parking (and yes, it is OK to park on the sidewalk on this side of the street.) Bicycles are also welcome. We always offer coffee and tea to our guests. On some occasions, we are able to give guests rides to nearby places such as the BART station.
The Berkeley Hills neighborhood is a beautiful area with diverse archetecture, gorgeous landscapes and hiking paths (map to Berkeley paths available.) It is very safe and close to the UC Berkeley campus, downtown Berkeley, and Solano Ave as well as bus and BART lines.
  • I love Edrie and JoAnn and their dog Twig and their house in the hills- thank you for your great hospitality and see you in 2021!

    Max2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Warm place and warmer people! Thankful to find this place.

    Steven2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Edrie and JoAnn were incredibly sweet and thoughtful in their accommodations and communication with me. I encountered some traffic in LA, delaying my arrival quite a bit, and Edrie called and made sure I was alright :). Their home is in such a wonderfully quiet area and right next to so many parks. I was visiting Berkeley for a tough mathematics workshop and it was so wonderful to have a kind, peaceful place and kind, peaceful hosts to return to and rest in. I needed extra heat and refrigerator room for my juices, and they easily provided both, no problem. They were truly engaged with me and the material I was studying and it was nice to be treated so thoughtfully! Some hosts awkwardly stay away, but Edrie and JoAnn tune to you :). Their little doggie Twigs is the cutest little button ever and it was so nice to have him greet me when I came in. The bed is a soft cloud heaven and the shower is ever rejoicing as well. I cannot wait to stay with them again :).

  • Cozy, sunlit home and lovely, intelligent hostesses. Definitely felt very special staying here. The neighborhood is breathtakingly beautiful with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown SF; lots of hiking and vista grounds right outside the door. Very smart collection of books and a cute little canine companion (who you cannot take with you when you leave) for those who like to stay indoors.

    Julie2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • I really can recommend this place for everyone who want to stay in SFO to take this appartment in nice Berkeley environment. You have the feeling of real relaxing holidays! No Fisherman's warf tourists and all the shopping people. Berkeley Shattuck avenue has all restaurants you need and University campus is a must-see. Just do it and enjoy!

    Helmut2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • It's clean, quiet and there're enough amenities. The next room to yours is Edrie's, so you can ask her anything at anytime. The property is on a hill, so you should walk up a bit.

  • Susan and Jim were wonderful hosts. Very kind and interesting people - we enjoyed getting to know them. Their place is extremely charming and offers a wonderful experience of Berkeley. I would say the photos do not do the space justice! It was cozy and lovely. The upstairs does have steep steps, but was completely manageable for us. The upstairs nook is very cozy and peaceful. Thank you for having us!

  • Great little find in a fantastic area. Only a short walk to Berkeley university, this quaint little guesthouse was well appointed and situated in a gorgeous older neighbourhood of character homes with mature gardens and greenery. Yes, the bedroom stairs are steep and are best traversed backwards on the way down, anyone with mobility issues should be aware of that, otherwise a great little find with a very warm and easy to communicate with host that loves dogs.

    Debbi2019-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Cute cottage, beautiful location! As previous people wrote, the stairs are VERY steep. I didn't think it would be a problem but for me in the middle of the night having to use the restroom down stairs was scary. Other than that we had a very nice stay. Parking was easy, shops and restaurants were a short drive. Susan was a pleasure to talk to!

  • Great communication with David, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. We hope to stay at David and Gloria's when we return to Berkeley.

    Leslie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • A nestled quiet and cozy spot away from it all, close to hiking and an $8 Uber from the action in shattuck. We enjoyed a hike to lake anza and took a bus into downtown Berkeley from there for a couple bucks. This was a nice treat

    Nick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect spot for a night's rest! We met David when we arrived and he thoroughly went through the room with us and we were super grateful for it. The room is spacious and well decorated, and the bed (especially the weighted blanket) was DIVINE for a chilly Berkeley evening! We appreciate the views from the location, and the thoughtful touches (such as breakfast snacks, extra towels, etc) that David and Gloria left for us. Communication was great and we are very thankful for David and Gloria!

    Briana2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • I am so jealous of where David and Gloria live! What a beautiful neighborhood. And I really fell in love with the view of the trees and the light through the big windows. Id be staying here just for that natural landscape as the wallpaper again. The space was very quiet, easy to find parking, sparkling clean, with a comfortable bed. I rarely stay at the same place twice bc i like to try new things, but if this is a room id like to book again in the future. Thank you!

A unique experience awaits the traveler in the historic Berkeley Hills. Amidst the archeological haunts of the original Ohlone people, rock parks and pathways entice guests to explore thousands of years of California’s earliest history. The sanctuary is small but crafted for coziness. Indian Rock, with its breathtaking views, is not only a 30 second climb away, the granite protrudes into the unit and a queen size bed is perched upon it.
A fire pit with lounge furniture frames the guest’s own private view of San Francisco. The hand crafted terrace is open for a barbecue. Mini-fridge, micro-wave, and coffee maker fill out a kitchenette. Climbing gear is available for the adventurous guest if they want to explore the rock up close. Solano Ave with Peets and Starbucks is a 5 minute walk, the Gourmet Ghetto is ten. Two bus lines pass by and make Cal-Berkeley and BART just a 5 minute ride with San Francisco only 30 minutes away. The H bus is a luxurious ride complete with Wifi; without exception, the fastest and cheapest route to San Francisco.

  • Absolutely beautiful area, amazing views, it was entertaining just walking around the neighborhood. Loved Indian Rock and close to some good restaurants and coffee shops. Would definitely stay again to explore more

    Christiana2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed my stay very much! It’s a cute little unit with the best location, definitely good for a quick getaway. The bed was super soft and I very much appreciate that Craig left some water bottles for me the next morning. It’s the little things that count!

    Katrina2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very unique and beautiful location, right next to the Indian Rock Park. You can get a really nice view of Berkeley and even San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge when the weather is nice - which is usually the case in the Bay Area. The cottage itself is lovely and clean. Great place for a weekend getaway for couples or one of you are traveling alone. I only wished there were central heating and bath room heating but given the year of house around this area probably would be a big undertaking to upgrade the system.

    Sixuan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay at an amazing, unique location. Loved the view and the firepit, access to the Indian Rock, etc!

    Ariel2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • It was a perfect little getaway for the two of us - especially since my boyfriend had told me about “his rock” from his post-doc days. So actually staying on it, and having a mezze dinner atop it at sunset was pretty cool. The bed was super comfy and we thoroughly enjoyed this cozy hidden spot.

The Thousand Oaks neighborhood is one of the most rooted communities of Berkeley. It borders Kensington and Albany, and boasts amazing Bay views and numerous hiking trails. It is not unusual to see deer in the morning and evening.
  • This is a beautiful space in a gorgeous neighborhood, a quick bus ride away from Berkeley and the BART. It would work perfectly for a couple or four people wanting their own sleeping areas! We had a great time and would absolutely return.

  • This is a great spot to stay if you're looking for a low key vibe that's close to everything but isn't right in the heart of the hustle and bustle. The house is cute and we loved taking morning runs in the surrounding neighborhoods. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for an affordable and comfortable place in the East Bay.

    Casey2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • Erin and Esteban’s place was a safe, clean, and comfortable spot for us with our three children. We loved the location close to great shops and restaurants on Solano. Warm and cozy living room especially with the heater on (necessary at the time of year we were there) and lots of tv/movie options available. Comfortable bed (we brought a pack n play that we set up for our little one). The older kids enjoyed the loft and when they weren’t using it we put the ladder on the floor so our toddler wasn’t tempted to climb it. Great communication with hosts and easy to find and access the house. Thanks for a great stay!

  • This is a great spot close to Downtown Berkeley. The accommodations were perfect, the spa bathroom was a real treat. It was a great set-up for our dog to travel with us. Emilie was a responsive host and took care of everything we needed.

    Steve2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Emilie’s place. The location is great and the house was perfect for our family. We would definitely stay here again.

    Jeffrey2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts were amazing and nice! Great hospitality and would definitely come back next time!

    Gabe2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our family agreed that Emilie’s was the best Airbnb we have stayed in ever! The space was great for four, including two young adult sons. One slept on the LR futon and was quite comfy; the other used the second bedroom, and we had the master. All was clean and fresh. The bathroom was delightful. With so many places to eat in Berkeley area, there was no problem at all that it was a “mini kitchen.” Worked perfectly for our 3day, 2 night stay. Parking always easy to find; great location. Recommend very highly!!

    Joan2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • If I could leave 10 stars I would. There are so many personal touches in this rental. It was far better than any hotel experience. Emilie and her husband were there to greet us when we got in. They have 2 beautiful dogs that we enjoyed meeting. Questions I texted Emelie were responded to immediately. There was so much info in the room to help us with our stay as well. Thank you again! If we get back up there some day, we will for sure hope to stay with you again.

  • Cristina's place is beautifully designed, clean and really thoughtfully stocked. Check-in was very easy and convenient and there was plenty of street parking for my car. She had snacks, drinking water from a dispenser and even coffee there for our convenience. It was absolutely perfect for a weekend stay and I am 100% going to look into whether this place is available next time I visit the Berkeley area.

  • Great place to stay for a trip to the Bay Area. A quentessesential Berkeley experience!

    Scott2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a sweet airbnb lodging. It's in a wonderful location up in the Berkeley Hills, easy parking on the street, located at the lower level of a handsome and well cared for home in a lovely neighborhood that was just made for walking and exploring. The studio is charming, clean and stylish, filled with light. Cristina and Rafi obviously care about their guests' comfort and serenity; there are all sorts of thoughtful touches. The photo-illustrated instructions for the check-in process are a model of intelligently created clarity. We spent most of each day exploring Berkeley but were always pleased to return "home" to the studio. Everything about it was terrific from our point of view, it helped make our whole Berkeley visit a delight. It doesn't get much better than this, airbnb-wise.

  • Cozy apartment, nestled in the side of beautiful two story gem, located in the quant hills of North Berkeley. This is perfect for a single person and/or with a little compromise and teamwork can be accommodating for even a family of 5 (my case). Fully equipped with all the essentials, there’s no need for a toaster with the best bakeries in Berkeley right around the corner. The owner Jordan was very polite, answered questions promptly and never complained (even though we know the kids were loud at times). I’d definitely stay here again, thanks Jordan.

My place is up the hill from award winning restaurants such as Chez Panisse and Cheese Board Pizza, near the original Peet's Coffee, close to UC Berkeley and Greek Theater, about a 10-minute walk from Downtown Berkeley BART station, and just down the hill from the Berkeley Rose Garden for a beautiful view of San Francisco. You’ll love it because of the lovely area and proximity to everything! My place is good for couples, concertgoers, business travelers, and UC Berkeley friends and family.
With a private entrance and bathroom, this studio is en suite to our house, on the ground level. This is important to note, because it is below our living space and next to our garage. We are respectful, but please know that you'll hear footsteps or voices periodically. Although there is no kitchen, it has a nice kitchenette equipped with a mini-refrigerator (for potential leftovers), microwave oven (for heating said leftovers), and Keurig machine (for coffee lovers/needers). If you're concerned about working, the table is adjustable height, and serves as your workstation or table. The bathroom is large, with a corner shower. The closet is gigantic, where you'll find a tower fan, iron and ironing board, luggage rack, and extra blankets. Whether you're here on business or pleasure, this studio has what you need!
We are in the hills of Berkeley, which is important to note. But those hills afford us amazing views of the Bay and the City. Our neighborhood is quiet; just far enough away from the buzz of the streets below to make them walkable, but high enough to enjoy the views. Plus, the neighborhood is filled with homes that take great care of their gardens. All of this makes it very beautiful, throughout the year. Honestly, we're in a great location - it's about a mile to the Downtown Berkeley and the BART station, a little more than a half-mile from the Greek Theater and the UC Berkeley campus, directly up the hill from the infamous Chez Panisse, original Peet's Coffee, and Cheese Board Pizza, and a half-mile down the hill from the Berkeley Rose Garden for an incredible view of the Bay. We're incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful home, and look forward to sharing it with you!
  • Justin was great! Super quick to respond and the place was so clean and lovely. We slept very well, which was exactly what we needed. His place is in the perfect neighborhood, too. Quiet and above the madness, but very close to so much great stuff. Highly recommended! We will be back sometime.

  • This was a beautiful studio in the basement of the host’s house. It was very clean, quiet and comfortable, and they had everything I could wish for—dishes, microwave, fridge, shower, and a large comfy bed. Plus I could walk a few blocks downhill to get to lots of great restaurants!

Lovely linens, canopied Queen Keetsa bed, wifi, vintage fixtures, stained glass windows, kitchen (includes fridge, microwave, toaster oven, electric kettle, nespresso machine) private entrance and garden patio. Come and enjoy! City of Berkeley record number 0113.
This is a space that was created with lots of love and modeled and named after our children's favorite storybook.
We are within walking distance to everything, including BART, so you don't need a car. We live a block away from the famous King Garden/Edible School Yard. Feel free to visit the chickens and ducks.
  • Quaint space with high end touches. Parking was easy and the space was very clean.

  • Penderwick Cottage is a lovely place to stay on a quiet street within walking distance to wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, and hiking trails of Berkeley! You will enjoy a comfortable stay in the thoughtfully appointed space which provides cozy areas to read, watch tv, and sleep soundly. I enjoyed the functional kitchen, convenient lighting, private, secure gate, clean and wonderful shower and bathroom space. Rebecca was a delightful and responsive host. I would definitely stay there again!

  • Yes , it is all correct ! Superb host ! Great location ! No issues with parking ! Privacy and a great ( not so ) little place with all you need for your stay . Walking distance from everything Berkeley can offer , including walking trails to food and shopping. VERY highly recommended even if your main destination is SF . We did day trips to the city but felt so good to return to Berkeley.

  • Great place!

    Darlene2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely space, every bit as on-trend as the photos suggest if not more so. I was in town for a work trip so did not have as much time as I'd have liked to relax and enjoy it, but the outdoor patio, comfortable chair and sofa, kitchenette with dining table and all the facilities was worthy of putting one's feet up - or working on the novel at the table, depending on one's perspective! Spotless and fresh.

    Claire2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed staying at this lovely private cottage adjacent to Rebecca and Leo’s house. The neighborhood is quiet and eminently walkable. The cottage itself has all the amenities and is very elegantly decorated. I was especially grateful for the Nespresso machine stocked with coffee. When I checked in, Rebecca left some tasty snacks, chocolates, and wine for me. All communication was prompt and smooth. Great place, great hosts!

  • Very cute spot overlooking the bay. The view was beautiful, especially from the hot tub! The neighborhood is also really quiet and peaceful, and it was great to walk around to nearby parks. The place itself feels quintessentially "Berkeley." A nice bed, big sofa, and big windows to watch the sunset.

The room faces our landscaped backyard so there's plenty of morning and afternoon sun. It includes a fridge and microwave. Enjoy a snack relaxing at the bistro table on your private deck. Our house is situated in a quiet, safe, beautiful neighborhood with Indian Rock Park practically in our front yard.
  • Very nice and comfortable place to stay with beautiful garden and gear location. Nancy and Richard are very thoughtful and welcoming hosts. I would recommend this place.

  • Great location and privacy

    Rod2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Nancy were very welcoming hosts. Their room was beautifully decorated and had everything I needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and Nancy had left a wonderful platter of fresh organic fruit -- delicious strawberries, grapes, and other locally grown fruit. She also left hand made soaps in the bathroom and the room was appointed with very unique and beautiful towel racks and other decorative items from their business. A very interesting and beautiful environment, completely separated from their living area, so very private. Since it was winter, I didn't get to appreciate the deck right off the room but in spring/summer this location with the deck and garden would be wonderfully serene, looking out on their garden. Both Nancy and Richard were very gracious and accommodating. Highly recommended!

  • Small but very comfortable and cozy. Great location for convenience to AC Transit or a comfortable flat walk to downtown Berkeley. Beautiful corner of North Berkeley with access to ghourmet ghetto restaurants. Great hosts.

    Forrest2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy and Richard’s place was perfect for what I needed on a quick trip to Berkeley; safe, clean, quiet, and well located. It’s not huge, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in style. There was fresh locally grown fruit, coffee, and hand made artisan soap. Nancy took the time to show me around and make me feel welcome. There is a cool viewpoint in the park seconds away, and I really enjoyed walking through the neighborhoods and into downtown Berkeley. The bed was very comfy and the room was super clean overall. Would definitely recommended!

Our home is located in a quiet, safe and secure residential area adjacent to Tilden Park. The lovely bedroom has French doors that open onto the garden. The kitchen is newly remodeled with great amenities. Bright colors abound, hand-painted Mexican tiles throughout, Peruvian textiles and lovely original artwork. A writing desk looks out on the garden to provide inspiration. There are inside and outside eating areas.
  • What a great place to stay! Great location, great interior space, everything provided for. Really exceptional.

  • This is the 3rd time we have stayed here. We cant imagine a better place to stay!

    Andrew2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Some hosts really know what they’re doing and boy does it show. What a lovely quiet and incredibly romantic place. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, and they even left a few things for us in the refrigerator to nosh on. They had created a guidebook with local attractions and eateries as well. When a small emergency came up for us, they found a way to accommodate our issue immediately. Quick communication and response every time. Thoughtful touches everywhere. A gorgeous neighborhood way up high in the hills over Berkeley, next to a gorgeous park. I don’t think I would stay here without a car, but other than that, I can’t think of a greater place to stay in the Berkeley area.

  • Marty's place is beautiful. You're going to love it. Its cozy, warm and inviting.

    Aaron2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • I've (or my wife and I've) stayed at Marty's multiple times -- and each visit has been superb. The casita is beautifully and colorfully decorated, and reflects the taste, travels, and talents of Marty and Dean. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen well-stocked, and the location quiet, attractive and close by Tilden Park's many recreational opportunities. We've stayed at a number of airbnb's in Berkeley and Marty's remains at the top of our list!

    Matthew2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely charming home to stay in in the beautiful Berkeley hills. Everything was just wonderful, super clean space, very peaceful and quiet, comfortable bed, fabulous shower and kitchen. Loved having a driveway spot for parking. Beautiful trees right outside surrounding the space and just next to the park for walking and hiking and also super close to everything you need. Marty and Dean are the most amazing hosts, so kind, friendly, thoughtful, excellent communication, and it was such a pleasure to meet them and get to know them. Hope to return again!

    Marjorie2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely charming, well maintained and welcoming 1 bedroom, with complete privacy and small, private garden. Perfect kitchen, well-outfitted with thoughtful touches like tea and coffee with half and half, along with fresh fruit waiting for us on our arrival!

    Karen2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay at this magical Berkeley cottage. The amenities provided, the art work chosen and the overall peaceful feeling of the space are evidence of the thoughtfulness and care taken by the host to make your stay memorable. With a straight shot down the hill revealing all the possibilities of the East Bay and beyond, the location is as perfect as one could ask for. Thank you for making our vacation memorable, magical and meaningful.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Michael’s location very much during our long weekend. It is like a small oasis within the Berkeley community. There was no road noise, the outdoor seating and patio were private and inviting, and the queen size very comfortable. Michael was very attentive to every need and amenity. A genuine Superhost!

Newly renovated, fully private bedroom and bathroom in a quiet and desirable neighborhood--this comfortable space is close to the Gourmet Ghetto with its excellent restaurants, UC Berkeley campus, and the shops of Solano Ave, and even closer to the Berkeley Rose Garden and Codornices Park. We are steps to a bus line going straight to the campus and downtown Berkeley BART. This is a beautiful base for exploring Berkeley and the Bay Area!
This is a spacious, single room featuring a new, king-sized bed and a futon that can become a double bed. On the southwest corner of the house, the room is bright with windows on three sides, with light filtering in through the trees outside. It is on the lower level of our house, accessible through a separate entrance on the side; there are exterior stairs leading down to the entrance. Besides the king-sized bed and futon couch/double bed, there is a bedside cupboard, a closet rack for clothes, and two bookcases filled with paperbacks to borrow. The bathroom, custom-designed in calming kiwi-green tile and Carrara marble, features a glass shower and all-new fixtures. The room is part of our family home, with three children including a baby; but our bedrooms are on the top floor so the room is both completely private and very quiet. We have baby supplies available for borrow, such as a Pack'n'play and other basics. Our house is in the Berkeley Hills but close enough to walk to the University of California, Berkeley and the Greek Theater on the campus. On the way there you would pass the excellent Codornices Park, with playground including an historic concrete slide, hiking trails, picnic tables, and fields for play; across the street is the Berkeley Rose Garden, with views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge--a great place for watching the sunset. You can also walk (1.5 miles) to the "Gourmet Ghetto," with excellent restaurants at all price points, such as the Cheese Board pizza or Chez Panisse, the birthplace of California cuisine. A bus going down to the campus and from there to downtown Berkeley BART station stops at the corner right near our house; from the BART you can explore San Francisco and the whole Bay Area. This is a pet-free and non-smoking home and yard. The carpet is brand new and has never had any smokers or pets.
Quiet, family-oriented neighborhood in North Berkeley close to many parks (Cragmont, Indian Rock, Codornices, Rose Garden, Live Oak...); every house is unique and there are hiking trails throughout (including to waterfalls). Tilden Regional Park, with more hikes, a carousel, Lake Anza, and valley views is just over the hill, accessible by a 30 min walk or a bus ride.
  • Great communication with host and awesome location.

Built in 1925, Maybecks' “Cubby” is your own private, rustic, 750 sq ft, carriage house located less than a mile from Cal. Homey and basic, it's easy walking down to the gourmet ghetto, markets, buses and BART, but a car is recommended as it is located in the hills. Minimal fencing - it's not baby proofed, so sorry, no pets, babies or toddlers. Finally, smoke free, over 25yr preferred. The deck is a great place for lunch or dinner, and the garden changes depending on the deer's appetite.
The Cubby sits on Maybecks' original property. The main house burned to the ground but his carriage house (Cubby) survives. Great walks to the Rose Garden, Greenwood Commons and Bay views from the deck. This neighborhood is Maybeck country and many examples are within walkings distance. I house a small library of Maybecks' work and hiking/walking guides.
The trees and the views are beautiful and it's also so close to all the action - Chez Panisse, Saul's, Butcher Shop, Gregoire. You can be in the city within thirty minutes or less. BART is close by, and 4th Street - a short drive, is a fun for the shopper - Crate & Barrel Outlet and Betty's Ocean View Diner, great for breakfast. Ask me about the poor man's Chez Panisse or just go! Back at the property, the Canpanile bells will chime for you - it's just the best.
  • Charming comfortable space! Would definitely stay here again! Bonnie was very responsive and was great host!

  • Had a wonderful stay at the Maybeck house. The garden and patio is beautiful and peaceful, the perfect place to watch the sunset! The house is cozy and has tons of character and history. Bonnie was very responsive and easy to communicate with. Walking distance to Cheeseboard and Shattuck Ave. I highly recommend!

    Donna2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I were looking for a cozy, relaxing getaway and that's exactly what we got with the Cubby! So unique and charming, nestled in the hills - we loved it! Bonnie was a lovely host, provided great info on the area, restaurants and things to do and see. Can't wait to come back in the spring/summer and spend more time in the wonderful outdoor patios! A true gem!

    Jennifer2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here! You won’t regret it! I promise! Really guys, this place was absolutely amazing. Such a cool space that feels secluded in the Berkeley hills but is still just minutes away from everything. Loved the fact that here you truly have the ENTIRE place to yourself as it’s not attached to another structure. The house is full of charm and history (look into story about the house’s architect Bernard Maybeck) and the updates make it perfectly functional (heating in the winter, WiFi, lighting, kitchen stuff). We did a ton of cooking and had everything we needed. Bonnie is an excellent host; and responded quickly to a few questions we had during our stay. She also provides tons of great local recommendations. Could not have been happier with the stay, highly recommend.

  • Bonnie is an extremely accomidating host, I would deffinitely recomend her home for your stay, perfect for a getaway with your spouse or a work trip and you dont want to have to stay in sf but still have to be close. Right in berkeley hill, beautiful!

You'll notice some of the original details of this comfortable space, and will hopefully share our excitement about some of the new updates to the unit - such as a television, king-sized bed, and fireplace heater. With its own entrance, nice-sized bathroom, and spacious closet, this cozy studio is ready for business or leisure! Plus, it's close to just about everything you need - UC Berkeley, Downtown Berkeley and BART, the Greek Theater, award-winning restaurants, and views at the Rose Garden.
The bathroom is large, with a nice-size shower.
  • Great location, great value and great response time.

  • The place was very clean and comfortable. Thank you!

  • Justin is very quick with the communications and went out of his way to help us with our stay. We really appreciated it. The place is in a nicely isolated part of the house. Being on the bottom floor, the place is pretty humid, but that is very typical of houses in Berkeley (I lived there for some time). The room has a number of nixe touches and features, including a height-adjustable desk of a good size (if one needs to do some work), good quality toilet paper, Everyone brand soap made with plant extract, a spacious closet (fits easily clothes for 2 people for 2 weeks), an electric heater in the shape of fireplace, a very soft and comfortable king size bed, a mini fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker and good quality coffee. Nice house from the outside. Solid wood hardfloor, good size shower. The location is very good too: it's inside a quiet residential neighborhood just 5' walk from Shattuck (and all its cafes, markets, stores, restaurants, etc.). Definitely a great place where to stay in Berkeley

  • Justin's place was adorable. The decor and touches around the place were on point and stylish! It was very clean and the perfect amount of space for me during a quick work trip. It was located in a very beautiful neighborhood and I felt very comfortable and safe by myself. Justin was very responsive to all my emails and questions. Overall this was a VERY positive experience and highly recommend this place to anyone:)

    Sandra2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Justin's place is a cozy and home-y guest suite. The bed is super comfortable -- it is like you're sleeping on a cloud! The location of the house is excellent, maybe a ~5-10 minute walk from cafes/coffee shops and UC Berkeley. Check-in and communication with Justin was seamless. I would definitely stay again!

    Alyssa2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute little studio in a lovely location. The whole process was seamless and we had a wonderful time.

Perfect combination of family homestay and personal privacy - this three-room suite is part of, yet separate from, our warm and welcoming family home. Walkable and desirable neighborhood close to UC Berkeley and famous restaurants.
Bedroom suite available in Gourmet Ghetto neighborhood of North Berkeley. Very private spacious bedroom with queen sized bed, closet, desk, and dresser. Guests also have private access to adjoining sitting room and bathroom. This room gets great light from South facing wall and is decorated with tasteful tiki details and exotic musical instruments. Sitting room provides a partial Bay view. Room is located on the ground floor of a two story well kept and neat Berkeley home shared by a local and home-grown family of 4 (couple with a charming 8 year old and hilarious and jubilant 6 year old). Family bedrooms and bathroom are all on the top floor so this is a very private setup. Home is located blocks from famous California cuisine restaurants such as Chez Panisse, The Cheese Board, Saul's Deli, and Cesar. It's an easy 1 mile walk or a short bus ride to the BART station, giving access to San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, and less than a mile to the UC Berkeley Campus. And it's just a 5 minute walk up the hill to Berkeley's famous Rose Garden - the perfect place to watch the sun set over the bay. We are also in walking distance to the Greek Theater - although it's uphill and a bit of a hike. Host was born and raised in Berkeley and would be delighted to serve as tour guide, concierge, or merely unintrusive innkeeper, depending on what is desired. We have a great cat named Charlie, who sometimes goes into the guest room at night. We haven't figured out a way to stop him from doing that yet so be warned :)
  • Always always always a great place to stay. Don’t hesitate.

    Melissa2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Shoshana and Tim are the most welcoming and gracious hosts I've ever encountered on Airbnb. They are very accommodating and quick to give you suggestions and recommendations for the area. The accommodation is spacious and very comfortable. It's a quick walk to UC Berkeley where you can catch the BART to Oakland and San Fran. The surrounding hills and neighborhoods provide for gorgeous walks, hikes, and runs. I would absolutely recommend Shoshana's place!!!

    Manny2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and welcoming place, highly recommended!

    Fadi2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Shoshana is ver kind and helpful. I will definitely stay again if I have a chance.

    清水2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at a bed and breakfast for the first time and tried to choose this one. I heard that it has been 10 years of operating a bed and breakfast. Getting older made homestay, fun experience. The English level is average, so there is little communication with the landlord. It is a ground floor of the house, which is connected to the small living room and bathroom. The living room and kitchen on the ground floor can also be used. We basically use it for making tea. You can rent a car and park in the host's driveway. About 20 minutes walk from Berkeley, we usually drive. The bath water was hot enough to poke the cat, and the landlord's orange cat Charlie was sticky.

    Yin2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful 5-night stay at Shoshana’s place. Their place is lovely and full of life - it’s like home away from home. The bed is very comfortable. The location is super convenient - walkable distance to all the great restaurants and UC Berkeley. Shoshana, thank you for being an amazing host!

    Ying2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location for anything related to UC Berkeley or for hiking and exploring the area. Shoshana and Tim clearly enjoy getting to know their guests; staying with them is like being part of the neighborhood. They're very low-key and allow use of the kitchen; they also provide coffee and welcome guests to make their own breakfasts with whatever they find in the well-stocked kitchen. It's always a pleasure to stay with people who've lived in a place their whole life, as Shoshana has. We will definitely stay here again on future visits.

    Sharon2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • With Shoshana and Tim you will find a very uncomplicated, open, friendly family to stay with. who make you feel welcome and have good advice to offer for the area. The rooms are just fine and the sunny private reading room with the big window towards the bay and good choice of books is a great extra. The situation was perfect for us, close to nice walking area and on foot just 20 min. to BART and Downtown Berkeley, coffee shops and supermarkets in close vicinity. We had a great stay and can fully recommend it!

This lovey sunny & private Berkeley hill little apartment is a fifteen minute walk down hill to UC Berkeley, or dining at Chez Panisse or pizza at the Cheese Board. Watch the sun sink over the Golden Gate Bridge with a two minute stroll to the Rose Garden. For current reviews please see our international guest reviews which are listed last. Thanks!
Climb the stairs from the street, and walk along our well lit path and unlock the private entry door to your little Berkeley hills get away. Connect to our wireless internet. Enjoy the morning sun as it bathes your private deck while you sit on a teak rocker and sip your coffee and admire the hundred foot tall redwood trees around you. Relax in a quiet but small bedroom, the marble tile and sky-lit bathroom and the little kitchenette. The house and grounds are smoke free. Your kitchenette has a small refrigerator with freezer, a microwave, single burner convection hot plate, a toaster and toaster oven, a grill, coffee makers, electric kettle, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, cups and utensils. It is appropriate for simple meals but too small for more than one guest. The kitchenette, like the bedroom and deck, is filled with the morning sunshine. The apartment shares a wall with the main house but we are easy going and respectful and sound transmission is minimal. Take a two minute stroll to the Rose Garden to watch the sun sink over the Golden Gate Bridge. Take a fifteen minute walk down the hill to UC Berkeley, the Greek Theater or fine dining at Chez Panisse or budget dining at the Cheese Board with coffee and tea just around the corner at the original Peet's coffee shop in North Berkeley. Or catch the bus a half block away to take you downtown and to the local train station (BART) for a short trip to San Francisco and beyond. The Berkeley hills are a walkers paradise with meandering pedestrian paths, gorgeous old homes by Bernard Maybeck and Julia Morgan and views of the San Francisco Bay around every corner. If car is your preferred means of travel there is two hour permit parking on the street.
The North Berkeley Hills are very picturesque, quiet and within walking distance of great places to eat and drink and the UC Berkeley campus.
  • The place is beautiful, and Murray & Janice are so lovely and kind. The small apartment has everything that you need, and it's located in a gorgeous, but not too remote, part of the Berkeley Hills. I loved my staying there.

    Elisa2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really love the place! It's convenient, quiet and cozy. I also appreciated the very lovely little gift from Janice and Murray. They are nice and warm people.

    Yulei2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • ***STAY HERE!!!*** Lol...I don't know where to begin. Murray & Janice are quite the pair! Super friendly, very respectful, just gems. Listen, I was headed to Berkeley for a 10-week program and had never stayed in the area before. I read the reviews, checked the price, and decided to give it a go. I'm so glad I did! Janice & Murray are simply the BEST hosts I've ever had...ANYWHERE! Not only did they accommodate my slightly early check-in and suggest a ride from the airport, on my first day, Janice helped me with my bags and Murray volunteered to take me to the local grocery store so that I could rack up on food and be able to navigate getting to the location. At some point early on, they treated me to breakfast in the area. They also treated me to breakfast as I was leaving months later. And lest I forget, they even left small tokens of thanks here and there for being a guest at their space. Just thoughtful, generous, and so above basic standard. But get this, what was really amazing is when the threat of local wildfires and electricity shut-offs seemed probably, Murray & Janice communicated so timely and consistently, and even gave me the assurance that should anything happen, I'd be going with them! They were ready, prepared, and great at communicating in case of emergency. Luckily, we never had to evacuate but moral of this story is...Janice & Murray wont leave you to die! Lol...refreshing! But seriously, the space was quaint and cool. Everything I needed. Clean. Just sweet and scenic. The sunlight in the space is great, waking to the hummingbirds was a treat, the extra blankets and portable heater were accessible. I read the manual and watched a YouTube on how to work the induction cook top. It worked out great, being my first time using one. Was able to whip up some great meals, made great use of the coffee machine, toaster, fridge, and kitchen-area workspace. Sometimes the internet was shoddy but I simply communicated this to Murray & Janice and they worked to address it. Laundry was effortless. And the bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner and other basics you would need. And yes, the space itself is in great walking distance to downtown Berkeley, easily accessible by several local buses, the Rose Garden is like barely a 2-minute walk away, even the hills north are accessible. Staying here encouraged me to do a lot of walking, which I was happy to do. Overall great weather, great views of the Bay from the main streets, great accessibility to shops, food, entertainment and the larger Bay Area, and GREAT HOSTS! STAY HERE! I'll be definitely coming back!

  • Janice and Murray were wonderful hosts! Very helpful, even a bike I borrowed. The accommodation is perfect for one person, the porch is a great place to relax and the rosegarden is just a stone's throw away from where you can enjoy a great view over the bay. The equipment is also very good and everything was very clean. Only to be recommended!

    Juliane2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • I was staying in Janice’s and Murray’s little apartment for three and a half weeks while I was attending a summer session course at UC Berkeley. It was my first Airbnb stay and I had the most fantastic time - these weeks went by way too fast! The apartment has everything you need even for a longer stay: The bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in (and I like to sleep! ;-) ). There are plenty of hangers, boxes and shelves to store your clothes and other things. Fly-screens allow you to let fresh air in also in the evening when the lights are on. The bathroom even has a tub, and the view from the tub/ shower through the skylight up to the redwood in the garden outside is just awesome and put a smile on my face every morning. The kitchen is perfect for small meals and offers an astonishing variety of utensils. I did not use too many of them as Berkeley has so many super delicious eateries, but it was great to have the option to cook at home (which I did a couple of times, and everything worked perfectly). You will also find basic things like coffee (Peet’s!), tea, salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil etc. in the kitchen, as well as some toiletries in the bathroom. But the apartment is not only very functional, it is above all super cozy, warm and welcoming – a place to feel at home right from the start! The colors are wonderful, as are Murray’s paintings, and the whole apartment is, thanks to many windows, full of sunlight during the day and has plenty of lighting for the evening. Sitting on the porch in the rocking chair is the icing on the cake! The location is perfect as well – the neighborhood is incredibly beautiful, lots of green, redwoods, bougainvillea…, some amazing architecture, fantastic walks (there is a wonderful map in the apartment!), super safe (also in the night), the Rose Garden right around the corner – and yet quite close to downtown, UC Berkeley, restaurants and grocery stores. One bus stop is right around the corner, another also very close – and walking is a beautiful alternative, easy-going downhill and a good work-out uphill. :-) But the very best thing about this apartment are the hosts. Janice and Murray were already super nice (and quick in answering) during the booking process and when I had a few questions some days before I arrived. They welcomed me with a much appreciated Cheeseboard surprise and were incredibly helpful in every way during my stay, from giving me a lift at several occasions to providing me with many tips, like places to have breakfast or for daytrips after I had finished my course. And it was actually much more than “practical stuff” – we had many chances to talk about a whole bunch of things, Berkeley, politics, movies, jobs, life as such… Murray and Janice both have a great sense of humor and are so warm, knowledgeable, interested in so many things, and great fun to talk to! I enjoyed the time together very much and have become really fond of the two. It felt like family (the part of the family you like! ;-) ) and I am going to miss it – thank you so much, Janice and Murray!

  • Parissa is an amazing host and her studio was a beautiful retreat with stunning views. The place was super clean, very comfortable, and quiet while still being close to public transit and downtown Berkeley. We would definitely love to stay here again.

    Christina2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Possibly the best value you'll get in one of the world' most expensive regions, and in a great neighborhood at that. The view of the Bay from the deck is amazing. You'll love nature walking at Tilden Park or Euclid St. The thing I appreciated most is that she respects your privacy. Note: Not the most ideal if you have a problem with stairs or if you need a microwave during your stay. Otherwise, what a wonderful home and thank you again Parisa.

  • Cozy and beautiful views of SF. This is a great little nook in Berkeley to stay in.

  • We were pleasantly surprised when Parissa met us when we arrived. She helped us with our luggage and pointed out several features of our place. We had everything we needed - including a great view with some wonderful sunsets. We enjoyed our stay very much.

  • The place is located in the beautiful Berkeley hills, offering gorgeous views of the San Francisco Bay at sunset. The very nice Tilden Park is walking distance from the studio and offers pleasant walks/hikes. The porch that is just in front of the studio is really nice for meals outside. Parissa was very helpful when there was an Internet outage and worked incredibly hard to get it fixed.

    Simion2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Larissa was extremely helpful when I had concerns about the widespread power outages before arrival and kept me up to date on how everything was progressing! The studio was adorable and very comfortable! One thing to note- the sofa bed is more of a cot for 1 person, great for a small person or a child. we loved the location and the sunny deck!

This is the perfect place to stay while visiting U.C. Berkeley! It is just six blocks from campus AND next to the beautiful Berkeley Rose Garden and Codonices Park. Just three blocks from Gourmet Ghetto, you will be able to eat amazing food during your stay, without having to prepare it yourself! Off-street parking. Right by public transport. Fireplace. Private patio. 40" Cable TV. Wireless.
The space is cozy. It is always cleaned thoroughly between guests. There is a private parking space for guests and it is very near campus and the 'gourmet ghetto". The kitchen is minimal, with hot plates, toaster oven, microwave and small refrigerator, but there's too much great food nearby to eat at home anyway!
The neighborhood is lovely. Very safe. Codonices Park abuts the property and is a wonderful place to take kids.

  • Gracious and responsive hosts. This apartment had the most comfortable bed—a blessing to sleep so soundly during a busy week. Despite the fact that my husband and I are both Manhattanites in our seventies and not used to navigating tight hillside terrain, we loved the fabulous views of the Bay on our drives out in the mornings and beautiful sunsets in the evenings.

  • DeNai was a warm and communicative host and DeNai's place was cozy, quiet, and relaxing- nestled just deep enough in the Berkeley hills to feel remote, but close enough to enjoy the surrounding city. The hot tub was lovely as well.

  • DeNai is a great host and has put a lot of time into making her rental convenient and easy to stay in. Best value in Berkeley

  • This place is pretty cute. The spot is a bit farther into the mountains than expected. The extremely windy and narrow roads to get there are not for the faint of heart. Most of the time there isn’t room for two cars on the road and there’s frequently cars coming in and out of the area. Great restaurants at the bottom of the mountain. Only thing that made this AIRBNB not worth while was how terribly uncomfortable the pillows were. There were 3 huge square pillows that are hard as rock and two deflated normal sized pillows that feel like two pieces of cloth with only one feather inside. Oh also, there was a small drop of blood on the sheets by the head of the bed on the right side. Yuck! Anyway, the value for what you pay for is there and the hosts were very good with communication. Didn’t use the hot tub but the set up was beautiful, possibly making up for the lack of a view to look at whilst using it.

  • DeNai was a very accommodating host. Her studio space is ample enough for two and has plenty of kitchen and bathroom space. There is plenty of coffee and ways to make it available to you as well :) The neighborhood is removed from downtown but a very close drive (minutes) or a lovely walk to see what the city has to offer.

  • This is a wonderful place to stay. The studio is actually bigger than I expected. Having the kitchen space (with coffee machine ready to go) was really handy and the bathroom (with bathtub) is nice and spacious. The bed is comfy and the garden view from the windows (and blue jays and other wildlife) is lovely. The hot tub was a nice addition. I just wish we had had time to stay longer!

Small private studio apartment with a Queen-sized bed inside a gracious 1928 North Berkeley home. Walking distance to Chez Panisse and "Gourmet Ghetto." Close to transit. Private entrance, bathroom, and kitchenette. Gourmet snacks and WiFi included. City of Berkeley Zoning #: ZCSTR2O18-OO33
This studio apartment, nestled in a beautifully maintained 1928 home, is unique because of the natural light it gets and the beautiful view it has of a terraced garden designed by a lifelong volunteer from the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. Cozy and clean, it makes the perfect writer's den or couple's nest. Pet and baby friendly (sleeping pad and pack 'n' play available for youngsters).
We are walking distance from North Berkeley's Gourmet District at Shattuck and Vine. Legendary establishments such as Chez Panisse Cafe and Restaurant, the Cheese Board Collective (and Pizza Collective) and the original Peet's Coffee will delight visitors. Don't miss the treats at Masse's Pastries. Down the hill at Rose and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, enjoy a decadent brunch or burger at Fat Apples. We're also a very short walk to the top of Solano Avenue, a charming commercial district in an area called Thousand Oaks with a nice grocery store (Andronico's), restaurants that feature good Indian fare (Ajanta), deep dish pizza (Zachary's), and California's wonderful Mexican food (Cactus Taqueria). There's also an excellent bakery (La Farine ... try the morning buns), an ice cream shop (i Scream), and a book store (Pegasus). Gorgeous neighborhood walks through the Berkeley foothills right outside our door and Tilden Park, with its great hiking trails and Bay views, is a short drive up the hill.
  • We love this place! Check in was so easy and the space was soooo cute. Very comfortable and cozy, and location was great. Plus Kate was kind enough to have a bottle of wine and snacks waiting for us when we arrived (which was so needed because we had been driving all day). Thank you so much!

  • Very safe, private location. If you are private person who likes a hands-off approach to hosting (but would like to know that they are just a phone call or text away), this is the place for you. The wine, cookies, and teas were a great touch! If you happen to have allergies, let them know since they had left a vase of fresh picked flowers as a nice little touch inside the room. I would definitely stay again.

  • Comfortable, quiet, relaxing, with many nice touches. The neighborhood is great to walk in. I would definitely stay at Kate's again.

  • Kate's place is perfect and of all the AirBnBs I've stayed in one of the most fully thought through logistically. You're greeted with snacks and refreshments and it's truly a lovely touch. The place is very clean and convenient to all things Berkeley. It's an easy walk to Solano street and there are many buses around if you want to use public transportation. If you drive do pay attention to the directions about parking. Parking at the bottom of the hill is narrow and you need to make sure your mirrors are collapsed. Otherwise, there is a parking on other streets, too. It's an incredible neighborhood and you can get some great exercise and experience some of the best views of the Bay Area just walking straight up the hills around you. Lovely experience.

  • Kate's place is super cozy and cute. We loved being within walking distance of several parks and places to eat. We traveled with our dogs and found the place very dog friendly! Kate also provided lots of snacks and coffee which was a wonderful touch.

  • Professionally designed bungalow with a view. Short walk to Indian Rock and other Berkeley Hills parks with views, bouldering and top-roping. Walk to Solano down one of the Berkeley Hills’ walking paths. Great place for a quiet weekend away.

  • I surprised my fiancé with a weekend in Berkeley at Kelly's bungalow. To be honest, it simply looked too good to be true. We were both blown away with its charm and magical view of the SF + Bay Area. The bungalow is on the same property as their main house, but tucked away and very private. If you have an opportunity to book this place, do it!!
