  • We stayed at Hoddam for a wedding at Balbirnie House. It was easy to find, just a short walk from the train station and the local amenities. The accommodation itself was perfect with a living room, kitchen and bathroom- perfect for what we needed!

    Cory2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Steve's place was clean and comfortable. Decent well-stocked kitchen and nice hot shower. We put on a DVD and chilled out in the evening was lovely! Had a great dinner in the town. The only mistake we made was thinking that Markinch was closer to Lomond Hills than it really was! It's difficult to get to good walking spots from there without a car. But our stay was great! Thanks Steve.

    Katie2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely wee cottage in markinch. Very clean, host was amazing with instructions and it had all the amenities we needed. Would definitely recommend hoddam cottage to anyone.

  • Steve was the perfect host, he helped us get into the property when we struggled to find the right entrance. He was easily contacted, quick at contacting us and we were so greatful for the lift he gave us to Balbirnie for the wedding we were attending, really kind of him 😁. The place was clean, had everything we needed and great value for money! The hot water bottles and thick duvet were a lovely touch and it was cosy 😊perfect for the one night or it would be a perfect place to stay for a couple nights with all the amenities the flat has. Thanks again.

  • Lovely and clean, Steve was great and quick with communication when I contacted him. Highly reccomend it for a stay if needed

  • Great accommodation, friendly easy communication, lovely personal touches!

    Darran & Caroline2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We were staying for a wedding at Balbirnie House Hotel for which, Steve's place was the perfect location as you can walk to and from if need be. Everything was as described and pictured. Steve had added some nice touches such as a plug in heater and hot water bottles which are great for the colder months, he had put some fresh milk and little cartons of juice in the fridge for us and there is also a first aid kit and some other amenities provided in the bathroom. I noticed there was a selection of DVDs suitable for all ages also but we never got to make use of these as we were out the majority of the time. I would definitely stay here again if in there area.

Cosy annexe in the village of Markinch, with great travel links via the train station (5 minute walk away). The annexe has a private entrance and compromises of a studio bedroom with fireplace, kitchenette and bathroom. Balbirnie House Hotel (wedding venue) is in the village, there are bus links to Falkland (Outlander filming locations) and Edinburgh, St Andrews and Dundee are 45 minutes by train. Plenty of local walks. There's a £20 additional charge for pets. New shower installed 31/07/19
  • Jasmine was incredibly helpful throughout the stay and provided everything that was needed.

    Katie2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • very clean and spacious , had a nice stay

    Caroline2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jasmine's place was great! You have the entire annex to yourself that has a small kitchen and a bathroom. I really liked how the shower did not have a tub and it was all open with curtains. The shower worked great and theirs a heater in the bathroom if needed. The bed was super comfy and big and the bedroom was spacious with a fireplace. Sad I didn't get a chance to use the fireplace. I came in late and left the next morning so I didn't stay long. I stopped here on my way to Falkland and Craig na Dun. I recommend Jasmines place to all.

    Angel2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • I had some desk work to finish without distractions and this place was perfect. A huge desk, a log fire and a big window looking onto trees/bushes. Plenty of space and privacy.

    Catherine2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great value for a self contained annex. Great amenities in a lovely quiet village.

    Lachlan2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very warm and kind host. We really appreciated the sincere kindness and friendly contact we had with Jasmine. The room was neat and clean as well as the bathroom and the kitchen. Kitchen was a bit small but sufficient enough for our short stay. We liked the traditional Scottish look of the room and the view through the large window on a few trees, giving us privacy as well as plenty of light. We also enjoyed the quietness allowing us to rest in good conditions. Just a small suggestion maybe for the Future: it would have been great to be able to use the desk as a dining table thanks to a second chair. However, overall we do recommend this place.

    Ghislain2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly side and responsive to requests! The accommodation is quite nice in a charming old building however not quite successful! However the price quality ratio deserves a stop when we go in the corner!

My lovely 1840s home (where I live) is just 7 minutes’ walk from the nearest train station, with direct links to Edinburgh, Dundee, Leuchars (for St Andrews) Perth, & Aberdeen among others. Edinburgh is about one hour by car, or 45 minutes by train. St Andrews is 40 minutes by car, 45 minutes by train and bus, or 1hr 10 mins by bus only.
In Markinch, once the ancient capital of Fife, you will find yourself in a village conservation area. My eco-cottage is heated by an Air Source Heat Pump and a log-burning stove, and also has solar panels. You will have full access to the kitchen, TV, Wifi &, washing machine. Plenty free on-street parking. For some truly lovely Scottish scenes, I’m a kipper’s throw from the beautiful East Neuk fishing villages (30 minutes drive / on the bus route). Make a day of it by visiting the world-famous St Andrews (the home of golf, but don’t worry; there’s a golf course just a 10 minute walk from the cottage!) I’m also just 10 minutes' drive from the unique village of Falkland which was used as a location for the Outlander series. Falkland Palace was the 14th Century hunting palace of our Scottish Kings and Queens. Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned in a castle on nearby Loch Leven... what a fantastic visit! There is a lovely park nearby, famous for its rhododendron collection, and there are other pleasant signposted walks in the area. I look forward to welcoming you to my lovely home in central Fife.
Markinch is a very safe, quiet town. My cottage is off the road, so you won't hear any traffic.
  • You can expect a superbly clean and friendly house that feels like a home from home! I would recommend Lorna's house to anybody that wants to come and relax and experience the friendly atmosphere of an awesome host!

  • A welcome smile and excellent tea

  • Lorna is a very nice and attentive lady, who wants to make sure you have a nice stay in her lovely home. Definitely worht visiting

    Anita2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • I was in Scotland for work and my schedule was hectic, to say the least. Lorna let me check in early, always had tea and snacks any time of day, and provided the best bed I have ever slept in away from home!

    Robin2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The room in the red cottage is exactly as described. My cousin and I had a lovely time exploring the area, as well as Falkland and Dundee, which are nearby. Our stay was made that much better by Lorna's generous hospitality. Lorna is very knowledgeable about the area and helped us figure out how to get to and from where we wanted to visit. She went out of her way to make our stay comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her in the mornings! This was one of my absolute best AirBnB experiences, and I can't recommend a stay at the room in the red cottage more!

    Mary Clare2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Homely, quiet, clean, comfortable ... and eco! Lorna is welcoming, easy-going and I enjoyed our chats over breakfast. The bedroom has plenty of storage space, an electric blanket, hairdryer and homely touches like a jolly houseplant. Would recommend and return.

  • Kimmie is very attentive and cannot do enough to make your stay comfortable. The cabin is cosy, stylish, and spotlessly clean. Only a 10 min walk to the train station with regular trains to Edinburgh. Great location for a little getaway!

    Helen2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at The Wee Dookit with Kimmie! She went above and beyond, even offering to give us a lift to the train station and had homemade goodies for us. We stayed in to have dinner one night and she cooked us a delicious meal. It was really nice chatting and getting to know her. She also gave us lots of privacy. We felt very at home in the place, and it was sparkling clean. The privacy of a separate bedroom was a nice advantage for our situation (father and daughter traveling together). I would definitely stay here again :)

    Amanda2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had such a wonderful stay at Kimmie's place - the whole arrival procedure was really easy and when we checked into her very comfortable and cozy cabin, we were so warmly welcomed with freshly baked Highlanders and a hand written welcome note - such thoughtful touches! The cabin was immaculate and equipped with everything we needed for our stay - lovely linen and high quality furniture with a really comfy bed - it was hard to get up in the morning! The front deck looks out onto a stunning garden and a wee river that runs past the property - so peaceful to enjoy an evening G&T! The cabin is within easy walking distance of Markinch train station and from there, it was a very quick and comfortable journey down the beautiful Fife coast and into Edinburgh where we had a fun time at the famous Fringe festival. The cabin is also really close to some great golf courses - we travelled to St Andrews to play 18 holes and then came back and opted for dinner which was delicious. Than you so much Kimmie - we loved every minute and have already recommended that friends come and stay with you in September and we will be back before the end of the year for more G&T's on the front deck!

There little touches like shampoo etc left which just helps with the things you always forget to pack. The house was warm and very clean when we arrived. Would highly recommend

  • Katy's place was perfect for me. The space is quite quirky, warm and has everything you might need. Katy has supplied me with local information and tips, even before my trip so I could easily prepare and organise everything I needed. I received a lovely welcome too. The tea rooms next door and pub in walking distance are an added bonus. I would definitely stay again. Thanks for everything, Katy. XXX

  • We spent one night at Katy’s house. We were kindly welcomed by Katy and a friendly word written on a board by her daughter. The room is well equipped : king size bed, table, kitchen with microwave oven, fridge, laundry with washing machine, shower....all confort en suite !! The village is very quiet. A pub is close to the house by walking 10 min but the kitchen closes at 8pm. Other restaurants for later dinners are available in Cupar, 10 min far by car. We warmly recommend this adress .

    Pierre2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nice place to stay. A quiet little village with lots to see in the surrounding area. The room has a pull out double bed, a table and chairs and an en suite shower and toilet. There is a shared area at the back with washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, kettle, fridge and sink. I’ve used this space to live in whilst I work up here. It suites me just fine and is good value for money.

Coronavirus Update - in the light of the new rules, we will only accept bookings from local people who need to protect relatives from the virus, after careful discussion. Holmlea is a cosy but airy cottage c. 1840, nestled in a quiet, pretty little road in the friendly village of Freuchie. With spacious, high-ceilinged rooms, Holmlea has an arty, vintage style, and is a comfortable and relaxing space. The cottage is light, and you can park in the road and in a free car park 25 metres away.
Homelea is full of original features, and we have added a beautiful cream Jotul stove with Delft tiling as a focal point for the living room, with sweet little insect illustrations. All of the artworks in the cottage are original, as we are an artistic family, and many are available for sale. Outside, although there is not a garden, there is a bench where you can sit out in the sun, and a back doorstep area where you can also take chairs and a table out for breakfast or in the evening when it is fair. There are also parks close by and a cricket ground. There is a guitar you can borrow if you didn't manage to bring your own! In the bathroom there is a new shower over a bath, and there is lovely antique furniture throughout. There is a new smart TV, so you can access Netflix, Freeview etc. Please note that although the cottage is all on one level, there is one step up at the front door and three at the back. We have aimed for the cottage to be homely, comfortable, attractive and the sort of place we would love to stay on holiday. Coming mid-January - a lovely sofa bed so we will be to accommodate 4 guests!
Freuchie is a very friendly community, and there are local shops for groceries etc five minutes walk away. There is also a 24 hour garage with large Spar shop just outside Freuchie, which sells craft beers, and great hotels and pubs are also nearby - our guests are often adopted by the friendly villagers! The legendary Pillars of Hercules is a short drive away, a characterful cafe/restaurant with a very laid-back approach, delicious home baked food, and health store - lots of tables outside and in. The Lomond Hills are on your doorstep for amazing 360 degree views of Fife (you can walk, or drive up most of the way to a car park and viewing point), and the historic village of Falkland is a five minute drive away and well worth a visit, for its beautiful old buildings, famous tea rooms, gorgeous gift shops, and the fascinating and beautiful Falkland Palace and Gardens, which features one of the oldest tennis courts in the world. Outlander was filmed here. You will find that almost everyone you pass in Freuchie says hello!
  • Very spacious cottage. Super clean and cozy feeling. Bed is very soft and living room with the lmaps on makes a perfect space to spend an evening. Would recommend

    Ryan2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful cottage, spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. It has everything you could possibly need to feel at home. There is even a bookshelf containing a good selection of books and a couple of board games which I particularly enjoyed. Katy provided all the information necessary to make finding the cottage and checking in super easy and there is even a large free car park really close by so parking the car was not an issue at all. Would definitely recommended staying here and I hope to return again myself in the future!

    Laura2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful property very clean and very well looked after and great attention to detail given in the decoration. I would recommend booking and staying at this property and would love to return and stay there again myself one day

  • We loved our stay at Holmlea. A traditional cottage, cute with period charm. Oh yes. But everything inside works perfectly, and the interior is so beautifully done with lots of caring touches and a bed which was deliciously comfy after a day's coastal exploration. We particularly loved the fire (with logs) and guitar. A wonderful place, and a wonderful weekend. Thank you, Katy.

    Mary2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • You will open the door to Homelea and feel at home immediately - that is if you are lucky enough to live somewhere as cosy and artistic as Katy’s cottage! You rolling in the Edinburgh or Fife area.will find everything you need of such quality and thought to cook a meal ( shops open late nearby), then snuggle up on a comfortable sofa in front of the fire and perhaps watch a favourite film. The bedroom is also exceptionally comfortable - we’ve had a welcome night’s rest every visit! Every item, from Katy’s choice of crockery to the lovely paintings on the walls by Katy and her professional artist family, are high quality and not the usual items expected in an Airbnb property. Homelea is ideally situated, near commuting train station into Edinburgh and in the heart of the beautiful Fife coast and countryside. From Freuchie you can see the breadth of Edinburgh’s coastline, a hop over the Fife bridge! We will always choose to stay here!

  • The house was very clean, the room comfortable but the best part of the experience was Isobel's knowledge of the local area. We had a great time

    David2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Isobel is so friendly and considerate. She came to the bus station to pick me up although her leg is not so convenient. Her house is so clean and warm. We really feel at home here. She has prepared everything for us, and she is always ready to help us. She tells us much interesting and useful information about the traveling. We love her and her house. Strongly recommended!

  • Isobel is a great host, she is really keen on making everyone feel at home. Which at first can feel a bit overwhelming, but the more I talked to her the more comfortable I felt. And if I am in Scotland again I'd also just come over to visit her for a coffee :)

  • Very helpful hostess, big bed and a kittle garden

    Susann2019-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Isobel is a very friendly and welcoming host. She helps you out with any questions you have and provides you with local tips. It is how the advert explains, home away from home and she makes you feel very comfortable. The room is comfortable and in a quiet location. Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in Glenrothes or fife area.

  • Always a pleasure to stay at Isobel’s. She is very accommodating.

Burnside Cottage is my lovely home, nestling at the foot of East Lomond Hill in the beautiful, historic village of Falkland. I have two double bedrooms ideal for tourists hoping to explore the history of the village and its surrounds and holidaymakers wishing to enjoy the pursuits of walking, climbing, cycling or simply chilling in the peaceful countryside. Guests will have access to all rooms except my bedroom. I am happy to provide breakfast and evening meals if required at an extra cost
The cottage is located on the outskirts of the village, at the end of a private road which also serves as a public right of way to the local children's playpark and gives access to walkers wishing to explore Falkland Estate. The cottage lies adjacent to the burn which flows through the estate so you are never far from the soothing sound of running water! The cottage has everything you need for your stay as you have access to every room with the exception of my own bedroom. Please be aware, however, that the bathroom for your own private use is situated on the ground floor, a staircase away from your bedroom on the upper floor. The bath downstairs also has shower facilities. My own bedroom upstairs has an ensuite, and I am happy to allow guests to use the shower in the ensuite if they have mobility issues. The larger bedroom has a balcony with lovely views over the estate and in warmer weather I leave out a patio table and chairs which allows guests to breakfast, enjoy coffee, quaff wine or dine out in the sunshine. The second bedroom is small but perfectly formed! Parking is not an issue, and guests can park on the road immediately opposite the cottage. If bikes need to be stored, there is plenty of room in the utility room. You are welcome to use all the facilities in the kitchen, to make and prepare meals, and there will be space made available in the fridge and cupboards for your own food if required.
There is a post office in the village which also acts as a convenience store. We have pubs and hotels, cafes and gift shops all of which are very good and popular. Stunning Falkland Palace is a "must see", (it was adored by Mary, Queen of Scots) and you can learn about its amazing history by going on a regular tour or stroll around the gardens and orchard and discover one of Britain's oldest original real tennis courts (but watch out for low flying birds!). Falkland is a great starting place for walks, cycle runs, climbing up the East and West Lomond hills, indulging in a bit of history, and for Outlander fans, spotting location sites and buildings often featured in the tv series. if you're really lucky, you might even turn up when filming is in progress. You might simply want a quiet break away from the hurly-burly of work and city life by relaxing in the peace and tranquility of the countryside on my balcony!
  • Spent one night here. What an idyllic setting. Peaceful and very relaxing. Slept very well....really comfy bed!! Had the room with balcony. Libby is so welcoming and made me feel at ease. Would definitely stay again 😀😀

  • Libby is a kind, considerate hostess. The house is lovely and the room is clean and comfortable, the garden and surroundings picturesque with the historic town of Falkland a stone's throw away and the regional park of the Lomond Hills literally on the doorstep. I would highly recommend Libby's cottage.

Stylish & cosy ground floor flat in picturesque Fife fishing village. The perfect getaway! Private entrance, own garden, beach walks & WiFi.
Woodside is a ‘home from home’ base for you with stripped floor boards and wool rugs, this ground floor flat is both stylish and comfy. It feels more like a cottage than a flat! The living room has a click clack sofa for an extra guest (please let me know if you have a 3rd guest & I’ll provide bedding etc), comfy sofa and armchair, a little table for suppers, it's fully stocked with lots of books, jigsaws and board games. The fireplace is not now used for real fires but there are a collection of pillar candles sitting in the fireplace so you can still experience that cosy romantic glow! It's an old fashioned seaside 'get away from it all flat'. Do note it’s in an old building so there are squeaky floorboards & sash & case windows...all part of the charm! It’s in a small conservation village (just 2 streets) which is off the beaten track. You’ll really feel as if you have stepped back in time! Woodside is tucked away on a small residential street called Church Street which sits at the very top of the West Wemyss. Please note, for the purposes of accuracy that Woodside doesn’t have any sea views. However, the sea itself is just a 2 minute walk away down through the village. So you are never far away! In the living area there’s a small TV with all the usual freeview channels. There's a digital radio with a CD player & large collection of CDs you can play. There’s also unlimited Wi-fi for your use. The flat has a fresh and bright double bedroom with plantation shutters for privacy and wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table for storage. It has a sunny and bright freestanding kitchen with views out to the fully enclosed garden. It is well stocked with kitchen equipment and has a brand new washing machine, new fridge, new oven, new microwave....there's also a new Nespresso machine (a handful of capsules are provided to get you started). There is a sunny shower room with fully enclosed shower cubicle. Shampoo and soap are provided along with towels. The garden has a paved area for sitting out and enjoying the birdsong (there are squirrels in the surrounding trees to watch) and an area of lawn for a picnic rug!
Woodside is tucked away on a small residential street called Church Street at the very top of the West Wemyss. The sea itself is just a 2 minute walk away down through the village. Please note Woodside doesn’t have any sea views. It does however have garden views from the kitchen. The village and surrounding area is a haven for wildlife, including a resident seal colony. Gannets and arctic terns from the Bass Rock can be viewed feeding around West Wemyss in the summer months and dolphins are also frequent visitors. The beautiful Fife Coastal Path runs through West Wemyss, keen walkers can take on the continuous 117 miles across the sandy shores and coastal pathways or can just walk smaller sections of it! Details of the Fife Costal Walk can be found in a guest folder in the flat along with lots of other walking suggestions. There are of course a huge number of local golf courses in the area in addition to the multitude of courses at St Andrews, the home of golf. The nearby harbour of Dysart is within walking distance and was used in the filming of Outlander. There is a Harbour Masters house in Dysart where you'll find soup and a sandwich, lots of information about Outlander and also the Coastal Walk. West Wemyss has a community run pub which is open 3 nights a week. Do come in. We're all very friendly and it's a good way to find out about life in the village. Occasionally there's live music and often there's a domino competition! There's also a small cafe in West Wemyss serving coffee and cake and hot food which is open Thursday - Sunday . You are guaranteed a warm welcome. You'll also find a small heritage centre in the village and Tam who works there will be overjoyed to tell you about the rich history of the local area...not to mention the famous Wemyss caves.
  • This home is very much as advertised but more so. For people who enjoy villages with history set on the coast Woodview is ideal. More suited to someone with a car, it does have bus access and a coastal path for the keen walker. You will not be disappointed: Alison is an excellent host and for a single malt lover the 'wee dram' was most welcome.

  • A Lovely little place stay with a lovely host thanks Alison 5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Tim2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Alison's place is a real gem. You are right by the sea and close to lots of pretty coastal villages. West Wemyss itself is delightfully secluded and peaceful - the perfect getaway. Alison could not have been more accommodating and friendly, making our stay really easy. We also enjoyed listening to her music collection, during the storm! We would love to come back.

  • Great little flat, really enjoyed our stay. Well worth visiting.

    James2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an excellent little find on Airbnb. The location, property and host were all exceptional. I will definitely stay here again when I'm back in the area. Alison is a great host, probably the best I have booked with by far. The accommodation is in a lovely quiet area, local walks and driving distance to St Andrews and Edinburgh. Perfect for our little weekend.

    James2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Alison's place. Directions were clear and there was plenty of parking available. The apartment itself is lovely, very clean and everything you need. We never got the chance to meet Ali, but she was very fast at replying to any messages and was very very friendly. We would definitely stay here again, and would absolutely recommend to others.

    Aimee2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • MY VISIT WAS MAGICAL! Alison turned out to be the best host I have ever come across in Airbnb. She was kind, friendly and went out of her way to help. Her place is absolutely immaculate. She has all the facilities needed for your stay and the location was just magical. I even managed to catch the seals sunbathing on the beach rocks! But Alison herself, is what made my stay so amazing. I would recommend this place a hundred times over. Come for the location, come for the beautiful apartment but most importantly come to meet Alison. She makes the place what it is. 💙

    Iffet2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is INCREDIBLE, absolutely sparkling, really beautifully furnished. It feels like a home away from home. Alison makes every insurance to guarantee you a stay you will remember. HIGHLY recommend.

This charming barn conversion in the village of Freuchie is ideally placed for exploring the picturesque East Neuk fishing villages, and the historic towns and cities of St Andrews, Edinburgh, Stirling and Dundee. Falkland Palace, the ancient home of Scottish Kings is just a mile away and there are lovely walks through the village and the Lomond Hills.
Lovely spacious accommodation combining character with every modern amenity to make your stay homely and comfortable.
There is an excellent village store just 80 yards from the cottage, open daily from 6am - 10pm. The quaint 18th century local pub The Albert Arms and The Lomond Hills Hotel are just a couple of minutes walk from the house and there is an very good garden centre and cafe at the village road end.
  • Mary's home is perfect. Small warm and very cosy. In the centre of the village, shop, pub and restaurant just a minutes walk away. Fantastic centre point for all the major attractions, Anerdeen, Perth, Dundee, St Andrews...... A lot off attention has been put into the home, just when you think you have seen everything there then something else catches your eye. A fantastic stay, will book again as we are regulars to stopping over in and around Fife. Many thanks for a great breakaway. :)

  • Great little spot in Freuchie and Mary is an excellent host!

    Gordon2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s place was just perfect for a peaceful retreat. It was sparkling clean and check-in was a breeze. There’s off-street parking, too. But mostly, it felt like a home not a rental. It’s decorated beautifully and felt so cozy and lovely. When we come back, we will definitely stay here again. Wonderful experience! Roaming around the shops in Falkland is a must!

Perfect for couples, for families or for friends. Stunning seaside 'boutique' home with beautiful wood burning stove. Set in the very heart of a small quaint Fife conservation fishing village. In a magical seaside location but just a short drive to Edinburgh, the East Neuk and St Andrews.
No55 is freshly decorated & both stylish and comfy. A real home from home. Here’s what you might want to ask... Q: Where is No55 located? No55 is located in the very heart of a traditional Fife fishing village. Set on the Main Street the living area has views of the traditional pantiled houses found in this Conservation village. The beach & sea front are just a 1 minute walk away. In fact you can often hear the waves & sound of sea in the garden & bedrooms. Please note that the house itself doesn’t have sea views. Cross the street & walk through an archway and tah dah! There’s your sea view! Q: How many people does No55 sleep? A: No55 is absolutely ideal for 4 but can comfortably accommodate an extra guest. Perfect if someone is joining you for a few days. There’s a single fold down bed available to an extra guest & this can comfortably be used in either bedroom. Bedding & towels for an extra guest are also provided for absolutely no extra cost, just give me a little notice. Q: What’s the living area like? A: The living room has a brand new wood burning stove for cosy winter nights (kindling and kiln dried logs are provided for your first few fires). There’s a comfy sofa and 2 ridiculously comfortable armchairs. The collection of pictures you can see on the wall are original 1940’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover illustrations...people always ask!! Q: Where can we eat? A: There is a fabulous large dining table which seats 6 guests. You can also sit & do a big jigsaw here! Q: Are there enough things to entertain us? A: No55 is fully stocked with lots of books, jigsaws and board games for rainy or just relaxing days. It's an old fashioned seaside 'get away from it all home'. It’s in a small peaceful fishing village (just 2 streets). You’ll really feel as if you have stepped back in time...where else can you go for a beach stroll to look at the seals after dinner? There’s a large TV with all the usual freeview channels & Netflix too! There's a digital radio & also Marshall speakers for you to hook up to your Iphone/smart phone. There’s also unlimited free Wi-fi for your use. So enough entertainment to keep everyone happy. Q: What about the kitchen? A: It has a small but perfectly formed kitchen. It is well stocked with all the kitchen equipment you might need (you can even bake a cake) and has washing machine, small fridge, oven & a new microwave. Tea, ground coffee, sugar, oil, salt, pepper & other pantry goods are always provided for you. Q: Is there somewhere I can work? A: Upstairs No55 has a really handy little 'study' area on the landing with mahogany desk & chair so you can comfortably work at a laptop. Q: What about the bedrooms? A: The main bedroom is a beautiful deep blue 'grown up' double bedroom with small grandfather wardrobe, chest of drawers and lloyd loom bedside tables for storage. It’s a restful & quite romantic room. Q: What about the 2nd bedroom? A: The ‘yellow’ twin room has 2 single dormitory style beds and a large upholstered chest of drawers. There are bedside tables with lovely fisherman’s lanterns for bedtime reading. There are also wall pegs for hanging extra items of clothes. Q: Is there a bath or shower? A: There is a sunny bathroom with an over the bath shower. Shampoo & soap are both provided along with plenty of towels. There’s also another WC on the ground floor. Q: What about outside space? A: There’s a fully enclosed landscaped courtyard. In summer it’s a sun trap & full of butterflies & bees. Please note that the garden & also the main entrance gate to No55 is shared with a self contained annexe at the other side of the garden. The 2 bedrooms of No55 look out onto the garden & also out on the annexe. However, there’s lots of space and lots of privacy for both properties. Q: Do you welcome children? A: Children are very welcome! If you are travelling with them please let me know their ages so that I can make No55 ready for them too. Young children are provided with plastic cups & plates, colouring in books, toys etc. There are also children’s story books too. Q: Why would we want to go anywhere else?! A: You wouldn’t!!

  • This charming cottage is bigger than expected. The kitchen is small but has everything you need and it is decorated with loads of personality and great taste. The generous supply of toys, books and games, a good TV and a gorgeous cosy fire kept us entertained during storm Ciara AND storm Dennis. It was too wild to get out much but we had a nice time indoors thanks to Alison's thoughtful hospitality.

    Heather2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful little place. Alison is a wonderful host and the house is a lovely place to have a cosy holiday

    Kim2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Alison is THE BEST host and her house is just a beautiful place to stay in. I enjoyed the roar of the sea and the sight of it just beyond the door - and enjoyed many a cosy fire in the wood stove before toddling off to bed upstairs, where the comfy mattress gave me some of the best sleep I've had in a while. There's also just up the street in the village a community pub open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights - a great place to go. There is also "Auld Wemyss Way's" - a Heritage Centre - just a few steps away, too...with an amazing display of the coal heritage of the area, plus a local archivist (Tom Moffet) who is very knowledgeable. The Heritage Centre is open 12-3 in the winter Fri-Sun., so a visit there, followed by a visit to the community pub after a midday stroll along the ocean's edge along the Coastal Fife path, would make for a great weekend!

    Deborah2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Literally the best accommodation we have stayed in. Spotlessly clean, modern with all amenities you could think of. The personal touch of welcome drink and treats a lovely touch. The house is tastefully decorated, comfortable and wood burner was so cosy after day exploring. Community pub in village was fantastic and locals welcoming. Definitely recommend and will definitely be back

  • Donna's house is super clean and very stylish. She is a lovely woman. Despite coming back from abroad and working, she made sure the room was ready. She provided local addresses for us and some coffee and toast for breakfast. The address from the website was "wrong" but after contacting her, she provided the correct one. It was minor mistake; we arrived at the right building (only the apartment number was incorrect). The location of the house is about 40min drive from Edinburgh and it's quite near Fife's coastal drive. There are some restaurants and supermarkets in a walking distance. I would definitely recommend staying there for whoever is driving out of Edinburgh towards the North or to Edinburgh.

  • A fantastic host, house, room, all you could want and all the shopping just around the corner, private parking, no steps, very very clean and comfortable, I would stay here again in a heartbeat, cannot recommend this accommodation enough, if available book as soon as you can.

The Pillars Bothy is a rustic, quirky, but clean and super comfortable cottage, sleeps 4, with shower room, wifi, heating and hot water from the super woodstove. At the edge of the woods but only 100m from Pillars shop and Cafe so not remote. Footpaths from the adjacent woods lead to Falkland (20 mins), Maspie Den with its overhanging waterfall, and the Lomond Hills.. a perfect place to enjoy the simpler things, but by car, Perth is 25mins, St Andrews 35 mins, Edinburgh 1 hour 10mins.
There is a separate downstairs bedroom with a double bed. There is also a double mattress on the floor of the mezzanine platform above the sitting room. It has a steep, ladder type stair so not suitable for very young children, but great for teenagers and romantic couples! There is an open plan kitchen/diner/sitting room with a wood stove, (which does all the heating and hot water) (free firewood!) and a separate toilet with walk in shower.
Walks and cycling straight from your front door. Fife is quite rural, but Falkland village is 20 mins walk away, with palace, pubs, shops, lots of history. St Andrews is 40 mins by car, Edinburgh 1 hour. The East Neuk of Fife has many picturesque fishing (Website hidden by Airbnb) Monans, Pittenweem, Anstruther, Crail. And not a sign of a nightclub anywhere ! Follow us on (Hidden by Airbnb) , (Hidden by Airbnb) and Instagram for more insight into the Pillars!
  • We loved our weekend at the bothy. The kids slept up in the mezzanine and were cosy and warm. It was like a treehouse up there! We spent our time reading by the fire and listening to Ella Fitzgerald. We also walked into Falkland which is only 20 minutes away and had a lovely wander around. The farm café and shop are terrific and have a wonderful selection of food. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the café on Sunday before heading home. We'd love to come back again in the New Year.

  • A beautiful cozy cottage for romantic winter breaks.

  • I booked Judy's place for two colleagues as we were having meetings at Falkland Palace and the Woodland Hub. Wendy and Nadine loved the space! Here are their words: “A beautiful little haven, tucked up against the trees. Just what we needed! Loved doing some walks through the woods... and so lovely to have the delightful Pillars of Hercules shop/café close by for yummy treats!” Wendy (Edinburgh) "I enjoyed so much your hospitality ... in this cosy lovely "cabane dans les bois"... Perfect for our retreat purpose, perfect to host and dive into some inquiries..." Nadine (France)

  • The bothy is the most cozy, Judy is a great host and the pillars the best shop! Historic Falkland and fantastic walks nearby.

  • We stayed here for 3 nights and it was so cozy! The fireplace was really authentic and we loved the wee house! The café and farm shop was lovely, we bought everything for our dinner there and cooked it in the bothy. Very close to Falkland which has nice stores, restaurants and Outlander locations :) Thanks for this stay, hope we can come back in the future.

  • We absolutely loved the bothy. The farm shop is absolutely brilliant and we loved getting cosy and enjoying the surrounding area. Brilliant WiFi but everything else was brilliantly rustic and exactly what we wanted. We hope to come back again some day!
