  • Very unique and peaceful accommodation. If you're looking to get away from the city and enjoy some peace and quiet accompanied with some beautiful NZ countryside, this place is it! Access to the fridge and milk in the morning for coffee/tea was a nice touch. Great rural escape.

  • Small and cosy cabin. Waking up with Alpacas in front of your porch is definitely unique and exactly what I was looking for. The bathroom is a few meters away near the camping. All was fine. We stayed one night.

    Andrea2016-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Deanna’s farm. If your looking for a place to unwind and relax, this is it! We slept really well and the views from the bed are just stunning!

    Christine2017-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • SERIOUSLY GOOD VALUE!! Yes you have to walk 30 odd metres to the toilet and shower, but you would have to do that at most camping grounds and have to pay more. Can be a bit hard to time getting a shower, but if you are not in a rush then it not an issue. Cabin is compact but we spent most of our time on the deck when we weren't sleeping anyway. Did not get to meet host so can not comment there but based on all the other feedback I can not see any issues there either. Great day trip point to all around. #1HOSPO #1HOSPOreview

  • I you're looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle, with a great view and beautiful surroundings, yet everything you need to survive for a week or two, and you have a car to get there - this is it. From the online pictures, the place looked a bit like your quintessential kiwi bach, so we expected to find 1950's decor, furniture and implements, and the dust that goes with it. Not so: The place is clean, modern, well insulated (we didn't need to heat despite it being late winter) with appealing decor, modern kit and even a little herb garden in a tree stump outside. We were a little unlucky in that we didn't catch the prevailing southerly / westerly winds, from which the deck is well sheltered with a huge glass balustrade - otherwise we could have sat outside, in August! Perhaps the best bit of the stay was the trip around the farm with Andrew, though - they do things a bit differently, and put quite a bit of thought into things. It was so interesting that we didn't even make it to the beach & will definitely come again.

  • The perfect combination of nature, serenity and comfort! We had a lovely Easter break staying at Andrew and Christine's cabin. The cabin is well appointed with everything you could need and a full kitchen. The views from the deck were absolutely stunning and the deck was well sheltered, so easy to enjoy from dawn to dusk. The cabin is an ideal get away for those wanting to unwind and relax. The beach is only a short walk away and was a nice swimming beach (considering it is a harbour beach). Great shower pressure was the icing on the cake! Andrew and Christine were wonderful hosts, who even left avocadoes from their farm on the bench for us. Could not have asked for more, a great experience. Would definitely go back.

  • Literally the most relaxing tranquil place imaginable. Could have stayed for a week easily. Andrew and Chris have an absolute gem here and I have already recommended it to two friends travelling from overseas. View is indescribable, like a real life postcard. I will definitely be back. Can not fault this place at all. Literally perfect.

  • Wonderful place, Host very nice.

  • A holiday of a lifetime for us and the kids. The cabin was perfect and had all we needed. Andrew and Christine are amazing - they were warm and welcoming and made organising it all very easy. We really appreciated all the fun opportunities for the kids too :) Pouto is breath-taking. We will defiantly be returning to the cabin and to Pouto.

  • Excellent kiwi bach getaway with stunning panoramic views of the Kaipara harbour. It actually was far more comfortable and cosy than the photos suggest and it was in spotless/clean condition when we arrived. Our hosts were very welcoming and communication was excellent regarding directions and instructions on how to use everything. We'll be back to visit again soon we hope!

Fig Tree Cottage, a historic building, is part of a working farm which has been in our family for five generations. Your experience here will be like no other, as this is truly a unique part of New Zealand's rural coastal landscape. It's remote, private location offers the quietness of country living, a game of tennis, amazing farm walks, fishing, stunning views and the rare opportunity to observe Godwits, the endangered NZ Fairy Terns, NZ Dotterels, many other birdlife and the NZ Fur Seal.
Fig Tree Cottage, a historic building built for the farm workers over a hundred years ago, is suitable for four people only. Our cottage is fully self contained and all linen and towels are provided. There is a wood burning fire for the cooler months. It has two bedrooms, the main bedroom has a luxurious king sized bed. The second bedroom has a double and single bunk bed and a single stand alone bed. There is a shower and bath and separate toilet, as well as a separate laundry space with heated towel rail. The lounge and kitchen are fully equipped and the TV has Freeview and a good supply of DVD's. We have books, magazines and indoor games for the rainy day! There is a BBQ outside and an outdoor table and chairs. Relax on the two wooden recliners with cushions, gazing at the picturesque view surrounding you.
Only one hour 20 minutes drive from central Auckland, Fig Tree Cottage is located at the very end of the South Head Road. You will need your own transport. There is NO public transport to our farm. Please make sure you have a full tank of petrol/diesel. We are a large working farm, farming beef, sheep, deer and crops. We have no immediate neighbours. The local golf course is a 20 minute drive away. There are Auckland Council Parks in close proximity for walking. Lake Rototoa is a 15 minute drive away. Parakai Thermal Hotsprings is a 45 minute drive away. The nearest town/shops is 45 minutes drive away. Once you are here you won't want to leave!!
  • Fig Tree Cottage is a magical place, just perfect for getting away from it all. It’s remoteness, it’s lovely setting and scenery added to its charm. The kids loved just pottering around as did we and it really allowed us to unwind. Sharon and Neil were the perfect hosts meeting us on arrival and making sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely go and stay again.

So named because of the prolific Bizzy Lizzy flowers (balsams) that grow throughout our garden. We are located only 2 kms off State Highway 12 and only 1.5 kms from the wonderful Kauri Museum. There is so much to explore Pahi, Tinopai, Paparoa, bushwalks, beach walks, local eateries aplenty. Both the east and west coasts are within an hours drive.
  • This is a lovely place to stay, with wonderful views across the fields. So close to the Kauri Museum - an excellent place to visit. Karen is a very pleasant and helpful host and the unit provides you with everything you could need.

Our cosy and comfortable bach is located on the water's edge in the friendly, quiet township of Tinopai. Enjoy the stunning views of Komiti Bay from our deck and let the kids play in the spacious backyard.
Welcome to our Little Bach By The Jetty. A bach is Kiwi-speak for a small holiday home, traditionally by the water. We are proud to offer our cosy bach as a getaway for Kiwis or tourists wanting an authentic New Zealand experience. The bach is next to the boat-ramp, beach and jetty.
Tinopai is a cute backwater town which is only a two-hour drive from Auckland but a world away from the daily grind. Locals are friendly and proud of this old-school Kiwi community which has 200-400 residents. There are a couple of nice walks around, especially to nearby Sandy Beach.
  • We choose this bach because we wanted a bit of classic kiwi beach bach, quiet, close to beach and good for a family gathering i.e we were visiting from overseas. It worked perfectly. It has lovely sea/harbour views, a relaxing deck. Well appointed kitchen - with espresso maskine (remember to bring ground coffee), a bbq (which we used most to cook on), also great couches and lounge chairs. There were also a pile of games for the kids and adults to enjoy. 3 bedrooms, one with a comfy double bed, one with 2 bunks (4 beds) and a bedroom with 2 single beds. The quiet location means talking a walk is relaxing. We were fortunate to hit the weekend of the Tinopai fishing competition (which Bex let us know about the week prior). That meant the boat ramp and jetty were busy with plenty of intersting sights. We ended up buying a 5.5kg snapper at the school auction - best fish I have ever tasted!

    Shaun2017-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Bex and Bruno were extremely helpful with all the information they provided prior to our stay. The Bach itself is really a home away from home. There was homemade muesli prepared, fresh towels nicely laid out and essentials like body wash, toilet paper and even shampoo and conditioner provided! It was impeccably clean. We had a lovely time, really just chilled out, went for some long walks, GrandDad went fishing every day and apart from that, relaxed on the deck and took in the gorgeous view. The neighbours are a friendly bunch and the quiet fishing town has a lovey feel about it.

    Naomi2017-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great experience working with Bex. She was very helpful and responsive. The bach was great. We brought in all of our groceries for our stay (recommended by Bex), which worked out perfectly. They even made us homemade muesli - YUM! We really enjoyed our time at the bach watching the tide come in and out, walking along the beach, watching stingrays swim under the jetty, and the kids loved the toys and books! We even managed to get internet through our portable device (on and off) :)

  • We had a great stay in the little bach in Tinopai. The bach is clean and tidy and very well equipped. The kids loved to play with all the toys and reading the children's books. Tinopai itself is quite beautiful, and we loved visiting sandy beach, a georgeous beach for swimming which is close by. The owners were very helpful in giving tips beforehand, and very friendly to meet on the day of our departure. Thanks for an unforgettable Christmas!

  • it was very comfortable and in a great spot. It was very well supplied to meet every need and absolutely spotless. AMAZING!!!!

    Laura2016-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for everything, we had a really nice stay. All was clean and tidy, and the lovely little extras made it an absolute treat. This was my first time using airbnb, and if other hosts are anything like Bex, I may never stay in a hotel again! Everyone really enjoyed themselves - we even managed to catch a fish from the wharf! We also ventured out to Sandy Beach which was beautiful. I think I might have to return to Tinoai in the Summer. Thanks again for a nice stay. Two thumbs up from me.

Located at Pahi, a small fishing village, considered by many as the jewel of the Kaipara. Semi-rural outlook with comfortable accommodation. Within a short walking distance to beaches, wharf & all tide boat-ramp. Just 11km from the world famous Kauri Museum.
  • Paul and Alice were excellent hosts. On arrival we were immediately invited into their house for a cup of tea and delicious banana cake. The heavens opened and Paul help to take all our luggage into our rooms. Before we knew it we were sharing a bottle of wine with them - what a brilliant start to our stay. The accommodation was immaculate and had everything we could possibly need. The next morning before leaving they had checked that our planned route was clear to travel after the bad weather. We would have been more than happy to have stayed longer.

  • Lovely spot in a quiet rural / seaside setting .. Both Paul and Alice were friendly and welcoming . The bed was very comfortable and provided a restful nights sleep

    Kay2016-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, comfortable location. Well-equipped area requiring minimal further assistance from Alice and Paul though they were available to help at any time. Great place for a secluded getaway.

    Blake2017-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Alice and Paul were very welcoming and happy to help with anything, but not at all intrusive. The room was lovely and clean, even had tea and coffee provided. Felt like a seperate house as its completely self contained and not attached to the house. Lots of little details in the room made it wonderfully homely. Really enjoyed our stay. Paul even took us out on the boat!

  • Perfect place for a relaxing weekend getaway! The self-contained (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) was very clean and had everything you need: a very comfortable bed, little kitchen, TV with DVD player, a lovely deck to sit in the sun and relax. We felt at home straightaway. The surroundings are beautiful and a nice change to busy city life. Spent some time walking on the beach, took a dip in the sea and did a short bushwalk in Pararoa. Alice and Paul greeted us very warmly and were always there for advice about the area or just for a chat. Highly recommended!

    Karina 2017-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Alice and Poul's accommodation is very nice and very well equipped - there was everything you needed - even a barbecue on the deck. It is a good place to stay if you want to explore the Kauri Coast and visit the Kauri Museum. Alice and Poul are very kind and helpful. Poul even took us out in his boat and gave us a wonderful afternoon. We will highly recommend their Airbnb accommodation. Hanne and Jens

My place is on the bank of an estuary in the Kaipara Harbour. You’ll love my place because of views from the deck and bedrooms of boats coming in to anchor/going out to sea, fishing off the wharf and walks along the harbour. It is a short drive to Paparoa that hosts the farmers market on Saturday mornings and also has lovely eating places and a pub. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, travelers, and small families.
  • Great location! The house is beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. Huge bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, en-suite bathroom and a stunning view on the harbour. • Lovely place to stay! Height of luxury, enormous en-suite bedroom, enormous comfortable bed, all facilities seemed brand new, house positioned beautifully on a slope overlooking the bay. And Bonita was the kindest host I can imagine, it was lovely to talk to her. I REALLY didn't want to leave!

Beautiful, two-storey, self-contained house with panoramic views of native forests and the Kaipara Harbour. Located in a community less than 2 hours drive from Auckland and 20 minutes from the town of Kaiwaka. Ideal for a relaxing weekend or a stopover on your trip north.
This is a contemporary, eco-friendly house. The earth walls make it cool in summer and warm in winter. Downstairs there is a kitchen, living room with a wood burner, bathroom with a toilet and shower and a laundry. The sofa can be used as a double bed. The doors open onto a spacious deck with steps into a private garden and a beautiful forest walk all the way to the harbour. There is a bedroom and bathroom upstairs, a table and chair and doors that lead onto another deck. From here you can enjoy the wonderful sunsets over the harbour. The house can easily accommodate 4 people. The opportunity is here for a most relaxing retreat. We are on a peninsula and there is no passing traffic. The Kaipara Harbour is almost tourist free and we are surrounded by native forests to the north and west. You are welcome to swim in our natural swimming pool and if you bring a kayak there is a boat ramp about 10 minutes away. You can also walk down to the harbour and go fishing. While you are here you may want to book for a massage and/or a pilates session. Both are available on site. You will find tea, coffee, bread, butter jam etc in the house and you have a few choices for your evening meals. You can cook for yourselves, go to a local restaurant or join the community for an evening meal in our community cafe.
  • Nice place. Hope they get curtains for future airbnbers.

Enjoy gorgeous view of river, sea and farmland from bed! This cottage is simply a stunner. Has own private entrance, bathroom, no stove/oven but some kitchen facilities eg microwave and toaster. A lovely rural retreat to unwind in or use as a base to explore Pouto Peninsula, Ripiro Beach and Northland's hidden treasures.
Has one Queen bed with super comfy mattress (people who stay want to take it home hehe), and a couch which pulls out into a Queen bed (ask us for extra bedding if you want to use the sofa-bed). Porta-cot available for babies on request. Has its own bathroom- shower (it's big!), toilet, and a fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave, toasted sandwhich maker, plus fresh spring water on tap. The cottage is located next to our house - at the end of garage, private but close to us if you need anything. We are completely powered by solar panels - 100% off grid. 10 minutes drive to Glinks Gully and the beach or you can walk through our family farm approx 3km to the beach - 20 minute walk down, 40 minute walk back up the hill! We have guinea pigs, chooks and honey bees on our property and are surrounded by the family farm (a dairy farm). Feel free to eat from our spray-free vege garden which is next to the cottage.
We live on a costal dairy farm so it's a pretty neat location. Our property is 30 minutes south of Dargaville on the Poutu peninsula - Tasman Sea on one side, Northern Wairoa River on the other.
  • Cosy studio with lovely views. Had a nice walk through the farm to the stunning beach. Enjoyed the fishing trip too . Great hosts and good communication throughout.

  • We were a little concerned about a long run on dirt roads but they weren't as bad as some we had been down on our trip. Take the road slow and you be fine The view is spectacular. We awoke in the middle of the night and went outside for a half hour of spectacular night sky. No light for miles. We will come again and spend a few days over a new moon. Just to see the night sky. The Granny suite is one of the best we have been in. Clean, well equipped (no stove top but the host offered the one in the house) We were happy with the microwave in the suite. The host and her two girls were very welcoming and nice. The sunrise was great too.

  • We had two great days at Sara's and Peter's farm. Highly recommended if you want to take part of farm life. Many pets and animals to cuddle. But also if you want to have your privacy and just travel around: No problem. We recommend the dinner as well. If there's enough time you'll get some kind of tourist programm. Enjoy!! And not to forget: Bella!!

  • What a great experience. I sure enjoyed my stay and thank you for the great dinner and the tour of your farm. I will certainly put your place my list for my 13th trip. Cheers, Hank

  • Stay with Sara, Peter and Bella was absolutely awesome ! We got to experience a little bit of their daily farm life, meeting beautiful horses, cattles, sheep and cute gecko. We especially loved conversations we had, breakfast prepared by Sara and 360 degree view from top of Tokatoka lookout which Peter had brought us to. It certainly became highlight of our trip meeting them. Sara and Peter are great hosts, making sure our stay was a fabulous experience. Strongly recommend☺

  • 10 out of 10! This was a fantastic stay! Peter and Sara are such a great hosting pair. The space was clean, and the food (take them up on the dinner option) was delicious. Peter took us for a short hike and taught us how to milk the cows, and Sara has a wealth of knowledge about horses. Bella is... Well one of the sweetest dogs in existence. We wished we didn't have to leave!

    CoryAnn2016-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment I turned up it was just like I was home. Amazing hosts who just take you in and treat you like one of the family. Even got invited to help wash a goat (got out of that), but ended up feeding the horses and learning some amazing tips on how to handle a horse properly. It was almost hard to leave and I am sure if I was not on a bit of a timeframe I would have found myself staying a few extra days and joining Peter in make silage and helping with the cows, which to be honest I would have enjoyed. Great stay, great experience, great people. Many thanks to Sara, Peter, Kathryn, one dog, two cats and six horses for a great experience.

    Peter2014-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sara and Peter are great host! They showed us the Farm, the cows, Mike the sheep, the horses and the spectacular view after a short hike up the hill. We could even ride Saras horses which was so much fun! You get the full farmstay-experience. Sara and Peter take really good care of their guests.

    Luisa2015-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a truely kiwi welcome to the farm house and enjoyed a beautiful family meal. The atmosphere, chat, exchange of cultural difference was magical. The openness of their conversation re family, background, farm practices and Irish/New Zealand exchanges were inspiring. Thank to the Ball family for grea t memories of our New Zealand experience. Everyone should make a call to this family and they won't be disappointed.

  • We had a great time at Pat & Adelina's beach house! They were prompt and friendly during the booking process and the instructions/info they provided for the house were great. The house has everything you will need, plus more! It was impeccably clean. It also has a beautiful view which was wonderful to wake up to each morning! We were staying during June and the heat pump kept the house cosy and warm. We really loved our stay and will be back if we get the chance!

  • We loved our stay in Whakapirau. The location is gorgeous; a pretty little beach, a pier and wonderful rope swings beside the bay. My husband is a keen kayaker and really enjoyed exploring the harbour. The house is new, beautifully kept and well equipped. We were very comfortable and appreciated how organised everything was. It's a perfect base to explore the wonders of the Kaipara.

  • Beautiful home very well equipped and thank you for your quick communication

    Shamim2016-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Pat & Adelina's for 3 nights, with a smooth check-in and check-out. The thing that struck us the most was how nice and warm the house was, in the dead of winter, even when the air-conditioning wasn't on! As mentioned in their description, the nearest shops are quite a drive away, so do bring most of your food and snacks - the nearest supermarket isn't cheap either! We had a bit of confusion over how to deal with the household rubbish but the caretakers soon sorted us out, which was great. The rope swings by the beach (a short walk from the house) were a hit with all of us!

    Yvonne2016-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • An easy escape from Auckland and a great launching place to explore the Kaipara. We felt very at home in the house.

    Joe2017-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Pat and Adelina were very good hosts as they were easy to communicate through email. Their house care taker was very nice as well. The house was well equipped with a full kitchen. I suggest to bring food before arriving since it is about 15 mins from the nearest grocery store. And that grocery store doesn't have much. There is also limited wifi but it was nice to have a weekend without connection. The house is about 1.5 hours from the kauri tree tane mahuta which is a must see. Thank you pat and Adeline.

    Punahele2017-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Pat and Adelina were great to deal with. The house is nice and well presented. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who asks. Thanks again for having us.

Beautifully quiet, sunny room with country and bush views out of the window. Only 5kms off the state highway. Perfect setting for a quiet getaway or to rejuvenate from your travels in a relaxed and perhaps nostalgic atmosphere.
  • We had a beautiful sunset over the farm. Amazing starry sky at night. Everything is clean (as possible on a farm). The bed was very comfortable. Lance was a great host. Non intrusive but very helpful and we ended up having a nice conversation over dinner together. Totally recommend to stay here. Be aware that it is a farm so no supermarket or cafe nearby! BYO.

  • We had a very nice stay st this place. It's a real cowboy house with a big kitchen and living area. We slept very nice on the beds and the bathroom/washing room is very proper to use. The house is a real farm house, so there is much space and you have an amazing view on the mountains. The Wifi is good and there is enough parking space for your car. The host is kind; it's easy to communicate with him.

    Yu2017-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lance is a terrific host. He really spent a lot of time with us and showed us around as well as giving us an opportunity to view some sheep shearing. Was great! His home needs a little tlc, but his host skills are terrific! Enjoyed our stay.

    Louise2017-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lance was very welcoming, he is a joyful caracter! His house was good for a budget accomodation. There is no supermarket nearby so you'd better bring your own (Lance can provide meals for an extra also). The facilities were not very clean but there is always room for improvement. The bed is comfy and the sheets clean.

  • Not everyone can be the perfect host on their first try - but Lance was! We couldn't have asked for a more warm, accommodating stay or better hospitality. Knowing we would get in late from a long day, Lance had prepared us an incredibly delicious home-cooked meal. We stayed up quite late chatting with him - he is a most charming and friendly gentleman (and is getting pretty good at the guitar!). The bed and pillows were super comfy and the rural setting provided the perfect quietness for a good night's sleep. Bathroom was spotless and new towels and personal manuka honey soap bars were provided. We really enjoyed learning about the family farm's history and were sorry we didn't have time for the full "farmstead" experience. A longer stay is necessary for next time! Whether you're looking for adventure on the farm or simply passing through town and need a cozy place to sleep, we'd highly recommend staying with Lance.

We had some great chats over food and he was eager to help wherever he could (which included a cheap oil top up). We couldn't ask for more for a one night layover. Cheers lance top guy!

  • Thank you Claire and Michael for having us to stay in your lovely house. It was so comfortable, clean and sunny and a rare treat to find a beach house so well equipped for cooking. Perfect for older families (there are steep stairs and a very high deck so possibly not for little ones) and adult friends. We had a thoroughly relaxing time and loved the laidback vibe of Whakapirau, duelling lawnmowers and all! A special Kiwi experience in a modern and stylish home. We'd love to go back.

We enjoyed our time there, relaxing, enjoying the yummy homemade breakfast and walking down to the estuary tidal river. Cathy and John both helped us get out on kayaks (very much dependent on high tide) and were happy to dispense plenty of local knowledge. We had a great time with these great hosts!

  • We had a wonderful time at this fabulous retreat. Lots of little extra touches made it feel like a special place to be. Gorgeous views, bush and birdlife. Cathy and John are wonderful hosts, very helpful and thoughtful. Highly recommend this spot to re-charge your batteries.

  • Such a peaceful and relaxing place to stay, surrounded by garden, bush and quiet. Well equipped wee kitchen, bath robes, amazing breakfast makings and candlelit outdoor bath were some of the highlights. Perfect weekend escape with friendly and accommodating hosts.

  • We stayed in Cathy's cottage over Christmas for 3 nights and we had the most lovely time - the little lodge was really cosy and with everything we needed to cook - little hob, smoothie maker, microwave, fridge etc. We also had the luxury of an outside BBQ which was perfect for our Christmas meal. Cathy and her husband were really helpful and thoughtful, we were greeted by a wonderful basket filled with homemade goods, and a little Christmas card and gift :). We had troubles connecting to the Internet but Cathy was really accommodating and offered for us to use her own wifi if we needed too. A place I would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a break in a beautiful and quiet place in northland.

Our beachside cabin is a secluded retreat with walks, safe swimming and gorgeous views. Suits couples, solos, families (roll out bed and space for a tent). Full kitchen facilities. Fish by boat or from the beach. It's glamping - use the nearby meticulous public toilet. With historic Batley House - and us - nearby, you'll be on a peninsula on a 1000-acre farm less than two hours from Auckland and 20 mins from Maungaturoto.
Retreat on the shores of the largest harbour in the southern hemisphere and in a cosy nook protected from the prevailing wind. Great walks, safe swiming and good fishing. The area is steeped in history - there's a nearby marae (you can walk there by road or beach), while at Batley there was once a wharf, fish factories, a flour mill, shop, post office, church and school - and lots of people. Our house was once a boarding house and hotel. My book, 'Love at the End of the Road' (Penguin), tells the area's story.
Batley is at the end of a peninsula and you'll look across the harbour to Oneriri Peninsula. There are a handful of houses in the wider area - within about 4km - and other houses on the farm.
  • Lovely stay, everything you need

  • Amazing location. No traffic or other people. Boat ramp 100m away from the cabin. Basic, but all you need. Rea and Rex are an awesome couple who live in a grand 1900s house up the hill.

A well worn family bach in a stunning riverside location . 2 double bedrooms and a sunroom with a sofa bed. We are doing the place up as we go so its not flash but its clean and tidy and comfortable. A great location for a peaceful getaway.
  • We have had some lovely days. A very beautiful location, beautiful garden and the weather was perfect. Went swimming, visited the Kauri Museum and the local waterfall. (Remember swimsuit!-)

  • This is a family kiwi batch where its all about tranquility and incredible views. Neil was a delight to communicate with and the batch is perfectly located for a quiet holiday. It just needs a big clean out and declutter and maybe something to get rid of the musty odours. I would come back as it is value for money , but would like to see it have a good spring clean.

    Jojo2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Neil's place is secluded and tranquil with gorgeous views. As descirbed is it rustic but clean. It was a little cold the first night, until the house warmed up, but it had everyithing you need inlcuding comfortaable beds! Communication was fantastic and easy. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go.

    Eleanor2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • The house has everything you need. A classic NZ experience in a beautiful location. Neil was very helpful and generous.

  • Absolutely beautiful spot right in the water, amazing to be able to sit in the conservatory and see the ocean, so relaxing. The house is cute, with everything you need. We loved seeing 3 kereru in the trees and were able to get quite close to them. Awesome for an early morning explore along the beach with our 4 kids. Loved it.

    Sara2016-11-12T00:00:00Z

  • Great host and delicious breakfast! The place was perfect after a long day at Cape Reinga. I recommend it! Thank you Ross!

    Manon2017-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ross is a fantastic host and goes out of his way to spoil you and make you feel at home. He makes a superb breakfast, as well as a funky marmalade and peanut butter ice cream. Right from the minute we booked, Ross was welcoming and sent us great info of sights to see on our journey up to his place. This was very much appreciated and valuable to us.

    Colette2017-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ross house is a very nice and quite place to stay. If you look for a quite and relaxing place to stay in a authentic New Zealand rural area. This is the place to go to. Ross is a extraordinary host with great passion. The night sky was breathtaking and the morning was just lovely. Feeding the kune kune pigs and getting a perfect breakfast served was a super start in the day.

    Andy2017-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Ross farm was absolutely amazing. If you love animals, this place is definitely the best place to stay. Unfortunately we only stayed for one night, but would want to come back some day! Our room was nice and clean and the bathtub was very relaxing after a day full of travelling. In the morning Ross made us a delicious breakfast and we could even fed the pigs with him!

  • Ross is the perfect host and his place is just amazing. We had a nice and funny chat with him and tried his delicious homemade icecream. He made us the best breakfast we've ever had in an AirBnB ( The best plum sauce!!). The room was clean and the bed very comfy :). We had a privat bathroom because there where no other guests, and access to the whole groundfloor. The kunekune's were so cute and friendly, that we didn't want to leave ;). If you have the chance, you should definitely go to Ross place!

    Irina2017-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • We are two students from Germany and stayed there for two nights. We traveled around the world and stayed at lot of different Airbnb accomodation. This was one of our best stays we ever had. The breakfast was gorgeous. Having a delicious breakfast at a sundeck is the best way to start a day. The rooms are clean and there is everything you need. The animals are well trained. It was always a pleasure having a conversation with Ross. If you want to relax this is exactly what you are looking for. It is in the middle of nowwhere but it's definitly woth staying there for some nights. We highly recommend this accomodation to all other guests and wish Ross all the best.

PORT ALBERT is a quiet, rural hamlet 10mins from Wellsford and 80mins north of Auckland city. I love living in this stunning location - EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! Greeting guests from near and afar is an enormous treat as I can share my own piece of paradise - a small lifestyle property with super views to the Orouwharo River as it flows into the Kaipara Harbour. There's easy access from both SH1 or picturesque SH16.
This fully self-contained studio offers travellers a restful environment in a light, open space with wide views. It includes a comfy queen bed (with electric blanket) and a double sofa bed for additional guest/s. The generously equipped kitchen has a compact, portable benchtop oven which grills/bakes & roasts, an induction plate, and a microwave. The pantry contains a range of teas, award winning local plunger coffee, oils, dressings, flour, sugar etc. For your breakfast there are complimentary eggs (from resident free range hens), homemade muesli and yoghurt, plus milk, toast-bread & spreads. Your bathroom is smart, well appointed and has a pleasant green outlook onto fruit trees. There are pamphlets and reading matter featuring lots of local highlights in the studio, just to help plan your outings.
The newest asset to Port Albert is our local 'General Store' serving great coffee, ice cream, snacks, a very good range of groceries and tasty 'Fish and Chips.' Last century this building contained the original Store and Post Office, the owners at that time provided a delivery service to remote farms in the district. Now visitors to the area can enjoy a delightful facility and often head down to the wharf with their takeaway and watch the sunset over the water.
  • We had a wonderful time at Patoka. Jenny has gone to great lengths to create a fantastic base from which to explore the local area. She provided us with home made cakes and yogurt and fresh eggs from her chooks, which were greatly appreciated? We had two nights there and could have stayed longer if our itinerary had allowed. The accommodation is very tastefully put together and had everything that we could possibly have needed during our stay. The store a few hundred metres up the road is brilliant, it is well stocked and even serves fish and chips which were delicious. We would like to say a big thank you to Jenny and highly recommend staying at Patoka.

    Anne2017-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny's place is definitely a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle city life! Tucked away amongst the hills, the view was simply spectacular! The place was extremely clean and Jenny was a very generous host! The kitchen was fully stocked and had everything u would ever need at an Airbnb! Not to mention the yummy homemade goodies!! Jenny even let me feed the goats and the chickens and kittens were all very friendly! I would definitely come back again for a quiet escape whenever needed! Thanks for such a lovely weekend Jenny!

    Anita2017-07-16T00:00:00Z

  • Jenny's place is the perfect home away from home, and she is an amazing host. We enjoyed the most peaceful four nights and wish our stay could have been longer. Located in beautiful farm country with fantastic views, you can take a short drive for a scenic hike or relax at her place and talk to the animals. Her place is spacious, beautifully done and Jenny provides everything you need, including free range eggs from her friendly chickens. This was one of our all-time favorite Airbnb stays. Highly recommend.
