Our sensitively converted C18th stone barn home with self-contained guest wing and camping space, is set in our own managed deciduous woodland high in the Brecon Beacons with stunning views of the Beacons that surround us. We are close to the spectacular waterfalls, caves, and walks, as well as being a popular area for cyclists, with Bike Park Wales nearby. Dogs welcome! Ideal for families, with access and all rooms all on one level. (Please read the notes below thoroughly).
This is off-grid living with mod cons, such as 30MB/sec streaming wifi broadband and a Sky TV. Although there is some finishing work still underway externally, such as the AirBNB tree house, additional car parking, dry stone walls to construct, and with the materials and equipment required being stored externally, for those who love walking – perhaps with their dogs – there are plenty of superb walks on the hill and in the valleys. We generate our own electricity via solar PV/battery-bank, hot water via solar thermal and a Rayburn fuelled from our own sustainably-managed woodland. There is a brand new 13m long south-facing patio down the length of the barn with a great view! Gas-barbecue provided. And the adjacent space can provide camping (for children perhaps?) with its own toilet adjacent – for a small extra charge. No strangers share the accommodation with you; it's just you – even if you only need 1 bedroom, , with us living through the dining-link. We charge an additional £5/night/bedroom from 15th October – 15th April, which we ask you to pay to us on arrival. Camping is £5/person/night (bring your own tent, but we have camp bds) Bought as little more than a pile of stones in 2005, we (Sandy & Stephen Waldron) finally moved into these C18th barns in 2014 after years of self-building. We have our own ancient lime kiln in our woodland, along with the original stone quarry. There is a gas-fired barbecue you may use on your own private, south-facing patio. Free to use – if you clean it upon leaving; £10 charge if we have to! We seem to be popular with cyclists. We are close to BikePark Wales, the best mountain cycling course in Europe ((URL HIDDEN), just outside Merthyr Tydfil) about 20 minutes away by car. The country roads here are ideal for cyclists with little traffic and great climbs! We also have a lockable shipping container for bikes, although everything here is very safe. We have never had anyone trespassing on our land or any attempted break in, although we are very secure anyway. Local farmers keep a close look-out for anything unusual in a village like ours! The kitchen/snug is compact, which is why we encourage guests to use the large glazed link for meals when we are not using it. We eat in our self-contained barn unless we have guests. For parties of more than two we try to keep it free for their use, unless they are eating out. (This is the only large dining space for the entire barn complex). The kitchenette doesn't have an oven; it has two gas hobs and a microwave. There is a fridge and also a coffee-maker. We allow you to use our washing machine for a small fee; £2.50/wash.
Sheep farming countryside, set deep in the Brecons in the village of Ystradfellte. The village is well known for its range of waterfalls and cave networks and is at the heart of what is called 'Waterfall Country'. There are standing stones and ancient settlements. And of course great walks which we can tell you about. We provide a handbook we have put together telling you about the barn and local information and Ordnance Surveys maps of the area. Many cyclists stay here since it is well-known for its challenging, breathtaking (literally) routes and we are not far from the superb BikePark Wales in Merthyr.
  • Lovely Place with beautiful scenery , compact but very warm and stylish flat, was great with a toddler, thanks for the loan of the toys!

  • Great location for walking and exploring the Brecon Beacons.

    Sarah2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We only met Steven, who was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was cosy and warm (we especially liked the underfloor heating! Clean and tidy, quirky little place, perfect for a couple with two kids. Suited us just fine for the weekend we stayed. We did manage to get lost twice returning to the farm, but that was our own fault for being rubbish navigators. If you follow the instructions they send you, you’ll get there fine, like we did on the first night. The treehouse is nearing completion, I’d be interested to see that when it’s finished.

  • Our stay was just perfect ...the stables were immaculate, not a single thing out of place (the photos really do not do it justice!) From the second we arrived the hosts were extremely helpful advising us on places to visit in the local area. We felt as if we were in the middle of nowhere but with so many attractions surrounding us at the same time. We will definitely be booking again very soon, we would highly recommend this place to anyone....it's an absolute gem

    Luke2020-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beautiful. Not only are the owners responsive and friendly but the Stable is emmuculate and so homely. We only stayed for a night but it was perfect. We had recommendations on the red lion pub which did amazing food. Would highly recommend

It's warm and cosy, well lit with a great games room to keep visitors entertained. We hired the hot tub which was a real touch! The hosts have gone the whole hog with providing an absolutely lovely place to relax and unwind. We will definitely be looking to return, maybe in the Summer time when it's a little bit better weather! Plenty of things to do in the area as well which unfortunately we didn't get to explore as much as we intended so hopefully next time we will. Thanks very much to the Birds

    George2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Well thought out, clean, stylish studio which is ideally situated close to the Brecon Beacons national park. My partner & I stayed here for New Year's Eve with our little dog. Quiet room even with a pub/hotel next door, great amenities with nice touches. The fresh milk and welsh cakes were very much appreciated after a long day walking! Thank you for a lovely stay, will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others!

    Jacqueline2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • James' Place was amazing. It is stylish and well throughout regarding layout and amenities. A stones through from a shop and local pub. Great TV to chill out to Netflix with and little desk for work. All in all some very clever touches to a cosy room.

    Mark2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was really fantastic. James was thorough in his directions when the map can be temperamental. There were lovely little touches that made us feel really welcome when we got to the place itself. Really clean and organised to boot. The wi-fi was on the spotty side but that's the only thing I wasn't expecting. Everything else was flawless for the price. Great place and thanks fo the stay!

    Jaimun2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nice, stylish, spotless and characteristically modern little patch of home that offers free parking. Close to Rhydcar Leisure Centre where you can find franchise restaurants such as Nando’s and Frankie & Benny’s, as well as entertainment such as a Vue cinema and about 20 mins drive from the picturesque Waterfall Country, great for a day out hiking. A 45 minute evening trip if you’re interested in having dinner in Cardiff City Centre as we were. Would very much elect to stay here again in the near future.

    Aaron2019-10-31T00:00:00Z

My place is close to Waterfalls, caves and mountains with fantastic walking. It is just a 2 minute walk from Porth Yr Ogof Caves, and 2 minutes from the start famous Four Waterfalls Walk. You’ll love my place because of the comfy bed, the cosiness, the kitchen and the stunning location. My place is great for couples. The property is a larger than average shepherds hut (21 feet long) with underfloor heating, log burner and it is insulated with lambs wool. This is Glamping at it's best!
The hut is warm and cosy with a very comfortable king size bed and luxurious bedding . A starter kit for the woodburner will be provided.
The hut is situated in the stunning Brecon Beacons national park right in the heart of waterfall country . The small village of Ystradfellte is a 5 minute drive or a 10 minute walk . Pen y Fan the highest peak in the National Park short drive away . Porth Yr Ogof the largest and most impressive cave entrance in the National Park is literally on the doorstep . Right on the four waterfalls walk .There is a pub that serves food (dog and walker friendly )in the village. There are lots of other pubs a short drive away some details and recommendations provided on booking. There are no shops , supermarkets etc in the immediate vicinity .
  • Lovely little getaway with brilliant walks nearby.

  • We went to the Brecon Beacons for a few nights and the stay in Lucia’s Shepherds Hut was bliss. Incredibly cosy, really innovative design and full of great amenities e.g. SMEG fridge and a lovely log burner. The location is equally perfect to enjoy some tranquil isolation, easy to hideaway if desired, or to experience one of the many amazing walks around the Beacons. The Waterfall walk was v cool! Lucia then came to see us on the last day and was nothing but a delightful host. Would definitely stay again in a heartbeat!

    Anthony2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful shepherds hut. Great location. Lots of things to see and do nearby. Would definitely recommend

    Kiri2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay over the weekend, wish it could of been longer. The cabin was immaculately clean and we were plenty warm with the log burner and electric heaters. The bed was also a bonus as it was extremely comfy. Cooking facilities are basic but there are a decent amount of places to eat out nearby. The four waterfalls walk is definitely worth it and there are plenty of other walks nearby as well that will keep you occupied for a weekend or possibly even longer. We will definitely be coming back for summer. Couldn’t recommend this place anymore.

    Toby2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little place to stay. Just perfect for what we wanted for a night away in the Brecon Beacons. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and just as described. Contact with the host (Lucia) was very efficient and also gave some great recommendations for the local area. Four waterfalls walk is close by and definitely worth doing if staying here!

    Damian2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most perfect stay here for a long weekend, couldn’t recommend it more highly! ❤️ Lucia gave us lots of info on the best places to walk and eat, as well as easy to follow instructions on how to find the hut, which helped massively. The hut itself is perfect - so clean and cosy, and I can imagine it would be as lovely in summer when you can sit out on the decking, as it is in February cosied up inside with the log burner lit! It was a welcome retreat after three long days walking. The location is stunning... the four waterfalls walk is right on your doorstep, and we also did Pen y Fan & Corn Du (15 mins drive), and the Llyn y Fan Fach & Llyn y Fan Fawr lakes and surrounded mountains. We do lots of walking and I can honestly say I’ve never seen such breathtaking views as we did on that walk! We were so lucky with the weather too, gorgeous sunny days, with lots of snow on the tops which made it even more special! We had an amazing meal at the Red Lion in Penderyn, and joined in the pub quiz at the Old White Horse in Pontneddfechan, where the locals were super welcoming and friendly 🥰 There is no wifi or mobile phone signal at the hut (or in surrounding areas), which forces you to stop staring at your phone - something I definitely needed! I would say to make sure you plan what you’d like to do before you arrive, because you can’t google things easily, and also download offline maps on google maps so you don’t get lost on the crazy country roads! We took board games and films in case the weather was bad, and there is also a selection of DVD’s in the hut. I can see why Lucia’s place is always booked up, it’s amazing!

    Jessica2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The shepherds hut is a cute and ohhhh so cosy place to stay .The start of the Four waterfall walk is two minutes away from Lucias’s property so another big bonus for its location .The property is spotlessly clean, and we received a big warm welcome .A beautiful place to wake up and hear the river and birds singing .

    Sylvia2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderfully remote and yet still very much accessible. Well located to explore the great outdoors of the Brecon Beacons. Equally charming indoors, particularly when the storms arrived, with plenty of firewood and dvds to keep you occupied. A great bonus being right at the start of the Waterfalls trail too.

The Old Byre, part of the original Grade 2 listed Rhydlafar Farm is situated 5 miles from Cardiff in open countryside with easy access to the city centre. The Cottage, sitting between The Old Byre and the old farmhouse is a self-contained two storey building comprising the private entrance, kitchen/lounge on the ground floor with the bedroom/ en suite facilities on the 1st floor. (see cover photo) Guest also have private access to a Summer House with a luxury Hot Tub in the garden.
The main farmhouse was originally a late medieval Priory and the adjoining Cottage incorporates carved stone door arches in the kitchen/lounge area which are specifically noted in the Grade 2 listing for their rarity. The open-step staircase to the bedroom is fairly NARROW and STEEP and not dog-friendly! Guests with limited mobility should take careful note before booking. There is also an external staircase from the carpark to the bedroom which may be easier for access when carrying luggage or an alternative access to the bedroom for dogs that have a problem negotiating the main stairs. The minimal cooking facilities include a small electric oven and hob and a separate microwave oven. These are probably not suitable for the preparation of a gastronomic extravaganza but will be adequate for snacks like eggs / beans on toast or heating up a pizza. Spiders seem to find old buildings attractive living quarters so, if you have a problem with the odd spider or its web, then The Cottage is probably not the place for you.
An ideal base for visitors to the Welsh National Museum of History in nearby St.Fagans, the Brecon National Park and the South Wales coastal areas.

    Josh2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Chris was a great host, extremely welcoming and friendly and helpful. The property was great, it was really cozy. We loved the hot tub in the summerhouse was a lovely space to relax in even on a cold wet weekend. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.

    Tara2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to Chris’s place and it was just as fabulous as the first. The location is ideal as it’s secluded but also within a 20min drive of the city centre. Chris was very responsive and helpful and even lit the fire burner in the summer house for us to use the hot tub! Many thanks!

    Ashleigh2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Just spent a lovely weekend at Chris' place. Property is quirky, and the décor is something akin to staying at my grandmothers, however I'm being pedantic. Chris and his wife was the perfect host and we had a lovely time. The décor is offset by the hot tub in the summer house which was great, Chris even got the fire going for us so that when we went to use the hot tub the summer house was nice and toasty. The location is ideal for getting in to Cardiff city centre and close to St Fagan's museum and overall was a lovely relaxing stay. Highly recommended!

    Neil2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This air bnb is one of the best ones I have had the pleasure of staying in. The cottage is small but perfect size for 2 people. But the main reason for booking here was the summerhouse / hot tub room. It was nice in the middle of Storm Dennis to be able to have somewhere else to hang out and have some drinks etc. Highly recommend and thanks to Chris for his hospitality including lighting the coal burner in the summer house whilst we were out in the city so we could come home to a warm room.

    Kitty2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Overall a lovely place to get away for a few days. Would definitely stay again possible in the summer months.

Designed for the perfect getaway, tucked away in a private corner of our garden, where nature is truly at its best. Enjoy a soak in your own private hot tub, chill out on the decking area with marshmallows on the fire, overlooking beautiful views of the Garw Valley or head indoors and cosy up next to the fire with a warm cup of hot chocolate or a glass of bubbly. This beautifully finished Nest in the woods is ideal if you fancy getting away from busy lives to do as little as you like.
Our Shepherds Hut is situated in a private corner at the back of our garden between a little forrest of trees, mountainous views and your own spacious decking area. We have tried to create a rustic yet warm and cosy area where you can feel at ease from the moment you arrive. Whether you visit to relax and soak in the hot tub or fancy long walks and admiring nature, we have it all. The space- our Shepard hut is beautifully designed to ensure it is easy and relaxing to settle into as soon as you arrive. Once inside, you will find a fully fitted kitchen with a butlers sink, small oven and two hobs, a kettle, toaster, fridge and all essential utensils, with complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and fresh milk. Once you have cooked up a storm in the kitchen, we have created the cutest dining area that you slide out when you want to use it or push back in to get access to the bedroom area or to simply have a little more space inside the hut. The beautifully finished bathroom includes a shower and complimentary toiletries. The log burner is perfect for those cold winter nights and keeps the whole hut cosy and warm and creates the perfect glow of light inside when the sun goes down. When it's time for a little shut eye, you can climb into the snug bed and be sure to switch off for a quality nights sleep. Inside the sleeping area is also a tv with Netflix. Outside space- as soon as you walk up your private walkway into Nyth Coetir, all outdoor space is yours to enjoy. Step up on to the decking area and keep warm in front of the fire pit or create a BBQ for breakfast or evening meal or melt marshmallows for a little tasty fun! Alternatively you could sit down and relax, enjoy the views or watch the birds in trees the choice is yours. Finally why not jump in the hot tub, connect to the Bluetooth speakers and relax for hours whilst admiring the views. Neighbourhood- Summer or winter, there is plenty to do in the area. At the bottom of our lane is a walking path that takes you further into the valley or you could follow the river and head towards Bryn Garw Nature park with lots to see and a cute little tea room when you get there. The area also has some great cycling trails if you fancy taking our bikes out and heading out for the day. Getting around- We are just 10 minutes from the M4 motorway, shops and restaurants, only 10 minutes to the nearest train station (where parking is free) and head to Cardiff, Swansea or further afield. We have a local bus service in the village or we are happy to offer a taxi service if you let us know in advance. Other things to note- we ask that you read our Guest Manual for top tips on the area and the how to guides on our appliances and hot tub if we are unable to greet you on the day you arrive. We are also happy to help if you need us during your stay so do not hesitate to get in touch.
  • Such a beautiful, tranquil stay. Loved the hot tub and all the lovely birds that visit the feeders in the garden. Really quiet, not over looked, stylish, clean and has everything could want. Thoughtful little touches make it all the better.

  • We had the perfect weekend at this amazing Shepherds Hut. The hosts were incredible and gave us so many thoughtful extra touches. Fire lit, hot tub bubbling and such a beautiful hamper for our arrival. Will absolutely be recommending this place to all our friends, and sincerely hoping we will be back!

  • A perfect romantic little getaway. The hut is so lovely we just stayed in almost the whole trip! Hot tub spot on too even in the rain. Ayse was a wonderful host and greeted us on arrival, gave us a tour and showed us how to use everything. It was spotless, we had a lovely little welcome hamper and a card, and there was a fire burning when we arrived so nice and cosy too. Great communication all round, with written directions and a sweet little map drawn by their daughter. We will definitely return :)

  • We wanted a quick weekend break to relax and enjoy some peace and got exactly that. It was easy to find and only 10 minutes from the M4. We were met by Leon when we arrived who was very friendly and told us all we need to know about the place and how to work the hot tub and we were left some really nice welcoming touches to celebrate valentines day. The hut very pretty, clean, warm, cosy and comfortable even with storm Dennis in full force outside. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • I highly recommend Clive's place if you're planning a trip to Merthyr Tydfil. It's clean and nicely laid out with a patio facing a big backyard. From his place, it's a very short drive to the Brecon Beacons and a few minutes walk to all the shops, pubs and eateries in Cefn-coed-y-cymmer. The Taff Trail is also close by and will take you to town. Most importantly, Clive is a great host!

Modern house on a quiet estate. There’s a few musical instruments dotted around as I’m a musician. There’s a small garden out the back with birds whistling away most of the time. There’s plenty of privacy as I have blinds on all the windows and Phillips hue is installed as well as Alexa so Spotify is on demand as well as a colour changing living room! Please note: THERE IS NO TV!!! The Wi-fi however is very good.
Feel free to use the whole house and garden except the front upstairs room.
There’s some nice walking at the top of Llanharry as well as a row of shops about 20mins walk away. Pontyclun is about 25 mins walk. Locals pubs are excellent with craft ales now stocked.

They were very welcoming on arrival, telling us about the area and places we could go to, also providing us with maps and explanations on how to get to them. The views of the landscapes are idyllic. Also they have bikes in case you want to go for a ride. But the best thing is the lemon drizzle and granary bread they made for us, we will never forget the breakfasts we had on our stay. The house is lovely and with all the appliances to ensure a good stay. We are very grateful for the experience.

  • Communication was great, the house was easy to find and managed to park right outside. It was perfect for our needs and Andrew had already put some milk in the fridge for us. Fab shower which was great after a long day walking. Shops 2 mins walk for amenities. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

  • Amaizing house: - as a location : 20 min by car from the waterfall eco pathways in the mountain. 60 min by car from the breathtaking Rhossili Bay beach. 50 min from Swansea and Mumbles, the southern coast of Wales. 1 min by car to the Turkish and Chinese takaway :). - Inside is clean and very well furnished, with everything we needed- towels, hairdryer... - Backyard with a view, where you can have your morning coffee. Andrew gave us very simple and accurate instructions about the places we must see in the region. I am more than pleased, and my family enjoyed every minute of our stay in Wales. Highly reccomend this house and the hospitable host, who meet us with a box of chokolates and fresh milk. Thank you, Andrew!

  • The accommodation was great with lovely views .The welcome pack excellent. Rachel was especially helpful and went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our stay -even rescuing the grocery deliver man! We will certainly stay again .

    Carol2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge is a lovely place to stay, so warm and homely and plenty big enough for the six of us and our dog! Rachel is an excellent host, who was always quick to answer any questions before our arrival and gave us some good tips for the area and who to use for taxi trips to and from Cardiff. The welcome pack, including wine and freshly baked bread was very generous and very well received. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, meaning we were able to cater for ourselves, but there are also a couple of pubs within a 10 minute walk and a couple of takeaways that we also took advantage of. I would highly recommend booking with Rachel and we will be sure to return the next time we visit South Wales

    David2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay over New Year. The accommodation is very spacious and there were lots of lovely little touches - milk in the fridge, freshly baked bread, bottles of wine and chocolates. We had a walk down into Llanharan to one of the local pubs and went for a lovely meal at the Miskin Arms which Rachel had recommended. There is lots of outdoor space which the kids and dog all loved. We would definitely book here again!

Double room with double bed, big window, desk, table light and heater. Big enough for 2 people but maybe it's a bit small for 3 guests. To 5 minutes walking from town centre. Street parking. Breakfast included: tea, coffee, orange juice, toast and cereals. The stay is only with two us, no more guest. Remember that you are in a private house, it's not a hotel. For us renting the room is not a bussines, it's a way to know different people and sharing life experiences. We'll give you our best.
This is the miner house next to town centre, 5 minutes walking with pubs, shops and restaurants around. Close to bus station (7 minutes walking) and train station (12 min walking). The Treforest Campus is 5 minutes away by car, if you prefer you can take the bus (numbers 90, 100, 102, 104, 120 and 132)
Pubs, supermarket, 7/11, chinnesse take away and fish & chips next to our house. Close to amenties and food shops.

The heating control were easy for the least technical person ... one finger to adjust the temperature. The nearest grocery is a Coop which is 5 minutes drive and theres a large Tesco in Aberdare. Great place to stay.

  • What an absolutely awesome place! As locations go to doesn't get much better than this. A cosy little cottage on a real working farm surrounded by stunning scenery and run by the nicest, friendliest couple who had loads of local knowledge and helpful tips to make the most of the area. Top notch, highly recommended!

    Jonny2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and cosy home, perfect for getting space from the outside world. We loved that there was no signal, but a gorgeous fireplace and snuggly sofa with plush blankets instead. Little treats and extra details really made it the loveliest place for us to rest before and after a big Brecon Beacons walk which we reached right from the front door. Thank you!

    Emily2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Got a dog? Love walking? Not terrified at the thought of no phone, TV or wifi? This is the place for you. A warm welcoming fire, all the amenities you need for a basic walking break. Make sure you have a book or your paints for the evenings and you will be out all day admiring the amazing scenery. Local pubs provide food but we stocked up with our own food and didn't need to go anywhere near civilisation!

    Nicole2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Utter animal heaven. It was so wonderful I plan to come back every year. I adored the location, the views were amazing. The animals were the best and the owners are simply wonderful people. We even got to see a just born lamb. This will always be my happy place.

  • Absolutely lovely hosts and the place was completely spotless. Had a lovely stay, and we’ll miss Mabel the sheep.

  • ⭐️Amazing communication from host. Sent loads of useful information of directions for getting to the lodge. ⭐️such cute personal touches, daffodils, wood for the log burner, brioche, biscuits and doggy treats all in arrival. ⭐️sparkling clean, neat, tidy and pristine. ⭐️kitchen has everything you need, there is even a slow cooker. ⭐️I was concerned about the lack of phone signal, tv signal and no WiFi but it actually turned out to be the. Eat thing ever. We watched about 4 DVD’s and it felt lovely to be “off the grid” for a while! ⭐️we didn’t take children but this place is child friendly. ⭐️would definitely stay again and recommend to all!

    Eleanor2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Morris and Felicity are delightful hosts as are their array of pet farm animals. The space was absolutely perfect for us and the location stunning. Good luck to M and F with the farming ventures and hope we can return some day.

    Jimena2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start ? The communication from Felicity was perfect and prompt, giving me all the information and directions that were spot on. The location was second to none, the added touch of the meet and greet to the animals on the farm really made our weekend. We have 2 dogs and I dont think we could of picked a more accomodating host. Felicity recommended the 3 peaks walk for us and it was spot on distance and time wise! Having the area out the back of the farm to give the dogs a run in the morning is a god send as they are active. To sum up, if you are looking for somewhere to stay, off grid, no signal, a few DVDs, a place the reconnect and reassess, look no further ! The most helpful host you could ask for in the most perfect spot, made for a PERFECT weekend!

  • Brilliant solo stay in South Wales. Used this as a base for running, cycling & walking in the Beacons. Within minutes or running & cycling I would found myself on the most incredible paths. Easy drives back down to cities Cardiff, Newport, Swansea also. Place was ideal for all my needs. Highly recommend if you want to explore the beacons.

  • Lovely place to stay. Very close to the Brecon beacons. Perfect for climbing pen-y-fan!

  • 4 of us were heading up to Bike Park Wales and Black Mountain Cycle Center for my 23rd Birthday so we needed a place to crash. I found James’s Place while looking around and thought it was exactly what we were looking for. We checked in with a self check in code which was awesome so we could arrive at a time that suited us between 3-12. There’s also a car park which we could park in and Check in was super easy and well planned. We stayed in flat one which was very quirky and made us feel at home straight away ! We was greeted by James’s mothers cakes which were one of the best we’ve ever tasted and I was also greeted with a birthday card and some chocolates by the team at James’s place . Very clean and tidy and also have ya some little things like tea , coffee and milk which was great after a 3 hour drive. Finally james place is outstanding for the fact my partner left his track pump in the flat and posted the keys , so we phoned James’s place up and he sorted it out straight away and allowed us to get it back , that’s what you call a super host ! We will defiantly be coming back Thank you James’s Place

  • We stayed at James place for 2 nights on valentines weekend in order to explore the Brecon Beacon and the apartment was in the perfect location for that. The self check in was super simple and we found the flat to be very clean and had all the things one would need for a short stay. There was also a lovely extra of a valentines rose:) thank you James for that! The parking is on street and there was always a space right in front of the flats. Excellent stay!

  • Great stay

  • James' Place is super cool. It has loads of character and some really nice touches. It was a little gemstone that happened to be on the way to where we were going. The village it's self isn't up to much but we did find a cool little tapas pub. It wasn't serving food at the time but we stayed for a drink and had a chat with a few local characters. Great value for money. Thanks James.

My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
The lodge is in the grounds of our home with a good size double bedroom and a cosy living room with wood burner.
Situated in a small village but within easy reach of the Brecon brecons and 45 mins from Cardiff . The local neighbourhood has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor adventures and history. Fishing, camping, biking ,climbing ,walking , paragliding are amongst the most popular to do things.
  • Good accommodation in the heart of the Welsh Valleys, 10 minutes walk to a pub and public transport. Small shop in village, 5 minutes by car from big supermarket. Nice friendly host and hostess. To really appreciate the area you need transport, you can drive to Cardiff, Brecon Beacons, Airport and South Wales coast in an hour.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. Andrew and Emma were fantastic; great value for money, would recommend and we hope to return ourselves.

    Susan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful welcome of a roaring fire, milk and welsh cakes! We arrived late from a long trip down but we could get straight in and rest up in the warmth. Loverly couple who were always quick to respond. Place heated up quite quick and plenty notes of suggestions to eat, visit or walk. Great escape from the city but close enough to a Morrison's, fuel and shops. One warning is for those with a lower car like a sports car, there is a mighty steep hill to get up the way we entered the street which our Ford Estate just edged up/down without scraping. Is impressive to see but we also took our Z3 and would have had to park at bottom haha! Perfect little spot to escape the world from.

    Mark2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this place during the Xmas week and loved it. Andrew and Emma are very warm friendly easy to talk to people. On arrival, Andrew had already made a fire in the cutest wood burner and the Xmas lights were on too. That's was exastly what I needed after hiking and shopping. I was on a solo holiday and Emma offered very kindly to bring me a Xmas meal. Been a foodie I already planed my cooking but it was still so nice of Emma. The place is very easy to find and walks to PYF and the board on PYB just about 30min away. It's a great location for many walks of all level of difficulty and kind (hilltops, reservoirs, forest, etc). Andrew and Emma checked regularly to see if all is OK or need anything. I won't hesitate to recommend them. The kitchen is well equipped. Very good bed. Decent shower and plenty of products (hand-wash, shampoo, shower gel etc)

  • A lovely little place to stay, cozy, warm and it has all the things you need for a perfect weekend away. Hosts were attentive and understanding when we had a bit of trouble with the car which may have resulted in a later check out. Would definitely go here again for a city escape.

A beautiful cosy self contained private hideaway set in the beautiful mountains of Llanwonno. Ideal for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, Or just a relaxing place to just chill out. The fabulous brynfynnon pub and restaurant set in the mountains is absolutely wonderful. You can take a hike along the forestry , cycle or drive to eat from their 5* menu. The pub's bar accepts well behaved dogs, so both you and your 4 legged friend can relax together in a friendly, relaxed environment.
We have no neighbours living close by, so it is very private. Between may to September, we have stabling available for 2 horses maximum. A daily extra charge of £10 per night per horse applies. Straw bedding can be supplied at £6 per bale, or you are welcome to bring your own. (Horse feed is not included.) We are very close to the famous Taff trail where you can cycle along the banks of the River Taff. A popular ride made by many cyclists takes you to Cardiff Bay, Castell Coch and many more fabulous places.
We are situated in the mountain area of Llanwonno. The nearest village is approximately 2.5 miles away. There are 2 hairdressing salons, pharmacy, coop store, pet shop and local pub. The town of Pontypridd is 4.5 miles away. There are many restaurants, pubs and lots of shops there. The beautiful Ynysyngharad park situated at top end of town is well worth a visit. During the summer period the newly built outdoor swimming pool is superb.
  • Lovely to wake up surrounded by beautiful views and sheep.

  • Had a fabulous weekend despite the weather! The barn was clean, cosy and lovely and warm! Fran left loads of essentials......tea, coffee, milk, butter, biscuits etc which was a lovely touch. She was there to greet us and explain how things work and the best places near by. Definitely plan to stay again.

    Naomi2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The location is great - it’s out in the sticks but close enough to drive to the nearest town with big supermarkets. Frances was a great host and we had a lovely time. There’s a kitchen so you can cook your own food and the place was very warm and cosy in the winter.

    Eleanor2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Fran was outstanding host, communication was fantastic nothing was a problem. The barn was lovely in a remote beautiful setting, really enjoyed my stay and will for sure be back again in the future. Highly recommend to anyone 😄

  • Fantastic location with wonderful views. Fran is an outstanding host and I would definitely return. Close enough to the town but tucked away in a peaceful and quiet rural spot.

    Joanne2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Fran was a great host and the stay was just what we wanted (apart from the rain!!). Love the quirky barn conversion which is in a beautiful, remote location in the hills but close enough (for a long) walk into Pontypridd for the Ponty Big Weekend. We also had a very nice Sunday lunch at the Brynffynon Hotel just up the road a bit. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Fran.

Close to Cycle path and very close to Large supermarket as well as cinemas and restaurants. Great friendly atmosphere with nearby local Welsh pubs and friendly neighbours. • Helen is an absolute gem, and staying here was a delight. The flat is located in a beautiful area outside of Cardiff, and it's very easy to get to and from the city. The bus stop is only a five minute walk away. The place is lovely and comfortable, and I felt welcomed immediately, which is an underappreciated commodity while traveling. I'll absolutely be staying here my next time in Cardiff. I cannot recommend this place enough.

  • Helen is a really lovely host, made us feel very welcome and was friendly and chatty. Good value for money:

    Ani2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Helen is the most awesome host ever! My partner and I stayed here for a night during our weekend visit to Cardiff. The host friendly and welcomed us with so much enthusiasm, showed us where to dry our dripping wet clothes (from the rain), offered to make us tea, then showed us to our room. Unknowing to us, we had booked for a single room but Helen had graciously added an extra bed from her spare room before we arrived! Really felt more homely than an average bnb, as Helen gave us almost unlimited access (including her Netflix). Thank you so much Helen, and we would absolutely visit again if we find out way to Cardiff anytime soon!

    Opeyemi2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Helen is the most eager and kind host you’re likely to find. She offered me a meal and help securing the rest of my travel plans. She excitedly offered even to go with me on my tour of Caerphilly!
