  • What a find! Cottage is lovely, so homely and cosy, amazing views and fantastic hosts in Tanzie and Richard. They have literally thought of everything, the kitchen is better equipped than our own (including a full set of children's crockery and cutlery), towels expressly for cleaning the dog off after walking, and plenty of firewood to take full advantage of the log burner. On top of that you get welcomed with the yummiest cake! Location is brilliant as a base from where to explore the area, particularly if you have a dog. We spent a day walking in the Horner vicinity, a day exploring Dunster castle and the fab routes around the back of it, and a day at Lynton and Lynmouth. Left feeling totally recharged and refreshed, would highly recommend a stay here.

  • Fantastic, cosy, clean with amazing views over exmoor. Very informative hosts that ensured our stay was relaxing as possible - including a tasty batch of brownies on arrival! Very accessible to Minehead with supermarkets etc yet secluded within the national park. Hopefully visit again some time!

  • My husband, our whippet and myself have just returned from a lovely few days spent at Little Knapp, we didn't want to leave! We were able to relax and recharge in their beautiful, peaceful surroundings, whilst enjoying the homemade brownies that Tanzie had left for us. The cottage was gorgeous, so comfortable and homely, we had everything we could need and more. Tanzie was the perfect host. We will be returning very soon!

    Suzanne2016-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was beautiful as was the grounds and views. Warm and cosy and the finishing touches really made it feel plush and amazing value for money. We was sad to leave and the homemade Brownies were an extra special touch. Plenty of places to visit no matter the weather too. No doubt we will be returning!!

    Tony2017-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is so beautiful the photos don't say it all. Tanzie has literally thought of everything and the only things you need are clothes and food. There's already coffee/tea and milk and she made the most delicious cake that was there upon our arrival. Honestly, I could move in and live there forever (with cake). The cottage was perfect in every way and the surrounding area is gorgeous right out the windows. There are great walks right out the door and when you return, you can build a fire to get warmed up in the cozy and comfy living room. She's provided all kinds of maps, mags and books about the local area as well as personally recommending places to see. The bed, pillows and all cotton bedding are so comfortable and the shower has great water pressure. The water from the tap is spring fed, filtered and excellent! I highly recommend Little Knapp and we will definitely return. Tanzie had made a home away from home and she was delightful and warm.

    Lee2015-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay here. It's a comfortable cosy hideaway. The wood burner was most welcome in the evenings.

    Giles2014-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a warm welcome with a home made cake. The cottage was more then we expected from the description: never had such a luxury rental before: nicely styled with artwork, very clean, complete kitchen, fire place (which we used; in August!), two bathrooms for 4 people, etc etc. The location is also perfect with a wide view towards Porlock. Clsoe to the cottage is lot's of opportunity for walking, biking (steep hills up to 25%) and horse riding.

    Gerard2015-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • The whole experience at Little Knapp from arrival to departure was brilliant, the cottage is warm, inviting and filled with everything one could possibly need including masses of logs for the woodburner which is so easy to light. The cottage is spotless and the decor charming. The hosts are welcoming and friendly and nothing appears to be too much trouble. Tanzie cooks the most delicious chocolate brownies which we devoured after our long walks. Brilliant walks from right outside the front door so no need to use the car and we gathered masses of chestnuts and mushrooms which were delicious. We enjoyed our stay so much and will definitely be back to tackle more of those hills! It goes without saying that we will be booking in at Little Knapp again... I just hope it doesn't get too booked up following excellent reviews! Thank you Rich and Tanzie PS I have to add that I'm a little fussy and not that easy to please!!!

With your own front door and patio doors onto the garden you are free to come and go as you please. There is a kitchenette with washing machine, fridge, combi microwave and table top hob. A dining table for two and hopefully everything you need to enjoy your stay. There is probably space for a little one, but you would need to bring your own cot/travel bed? Pets by prior appointment only please. Please note the garden is gravelled/terraced so not suitable for disabled access or small children without supervision.
Wander to the local pub or walk to the post office / village shop / garage for everything you will need, open 7 days a week. Buy eggs at honesty boxes in the village.
  • Fiona helped us in everything we needed. You have your completely private place and you can use the garden or the barbacue as well. The place is extremely cleaned, warm, with a really cossy room. Al the tools in the kitchen (microwave, top hob) had a very good quality. It was a perfect stay for a very good price.

  • Great location for exploring Exmoor!

    Lisa2017-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely annex flat. Very comfy bed, small but functional bathroom and kitchenette. Fi and Simon popped in to say hello and were very welcoming. A great place from which to explore Exmoor.

    Jamie2017-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my husband stayed here for our One Year Anniversary and it was perfect. A quiet little annex out in the country but within driving distance to so many local spots! Fiona was super quick at replying to any enquiries and although we never got a chance to meet, she and Simon left us a welcome guide for the place and tips for places to visit which really helped plan our stay. Would definitely come back again! Thank you!

    Mandi2017-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful, warm and cosy holiday let with very attractive views from the bedroom, a comfortable bed and good amenities. Thoroughly recommended for a couple.

    Graeme2017-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona's Annex is fine for an overnight stay; any longer and you may begin to miss the lack of cosiness that a sofa/living area provides. It's location is good for those who like to walk and explore the surrounding areas.

    Sarah2017-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • I loved my stay at Fiona's place. It was very clean, very cosy and I felt very welcome. When I needed something Fiona was very quick to respond to help. Thanks for a great stay!

    17 reviews
Primrose Cottage, a compact cottage for 2, one of 10 Self Catering cottages, situated in Exmoor National Park. Facilities include a shared indoor heated pool, tennis court, garden with BBQ area & games room. Surrounded by our farmland in a private valley. Close to Dunster, Dulverton, Porlock, Minehead as well as being a convenient base to visit local attractions & explore this “forgotten” area of England. Electricity paid by meter reading at end of stay. Please see other cottages on our website.
  • Particular highlights: Triscombe Farm and its surroundings are peaceful and beautiful, each cottage is given a dedicated parking space and the pool is very nice. We stayed in Primrose Cottage which is small and basic but quite comfortable. One thing I would say is that the hot water tank does not hold enough water to run even a quarter of a bath and the bathroom generally could do with updating.

    Jamie2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Primrose Cottage, one of (I believe) ten converted farm outbuildings. We were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our cottage which I have to say was lovely; compact but plenty of room for the two of us. The living room is at one end of the building, the bedroom with double bed and en suite bathroom is in the centre with the well equipped kitchen at the other end. The bathroom has a good sized bath, however it is worth noting that there is no usable shower as such, just a mixer tap and shower head, as the water pressure is quite low due to being fed by a spring. Not a problem though. I note that a previous reviewer commented on the view being of other buildings- I have to say I thought the view was rather pleasant. Yes, some of the cottages are in view, they fit in beautifully with the landscape though, nestled at the foot of the hill and woodland that rise behind them. To the right is the rather pretty and well maintained farmhouse garden. Very rural Devon, and quite charming. Added bonuses are the swimming pool, games rooms and outdoor tennis court. It's well worth a taking a walk round the grounds as the cottages are set in glorious countryside. Triscombe farm is well placed for trips to the North Devon coast, with Minehead, the beautiful Porlock Weir and Lynton/Lynmouth all a short and very scenic drive away. A day rover ticket on the West Somerset Railway is highly recommended; we spent an enjoyable day 'station hopping' and exploring the North Devon coast by steam train. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly be going back to Triscome farm again.

  • Such a picturesque collection of cottages on an old farm. Loved the games room and the location.

    Patrick2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • The farm is beautiful and incredibly scenic. The extras such as the pool are a great addition. Ruth is a great host. Very helpful and communicative. The cottage is well equipped and a good size. There are a few small issues. Wifi is non existent. It could do with a proper clean - we found cobwebs and spiders. The shower is barely a dribble and turns cold if you lift it too high. Other than that, the location is wonderful to get into Dunster, Porlock and minehead. It's incredibly peaceful.

    Charlotte2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at Quarme Cottages, it is such a beautiful spot to visit with its magnificent views of Somerset's rolling hills. The cottage was easy to find and better equipped than we had anticipated, everything was spotlessly clean too - we felt completely relaxed at the cottage. Katherine and Nick were very welcoming and shared some great tips on places to visit, and we all loved Katherine's delicious cream tea! All in all, this was a fantastic family holiday, thank you so much to Katherine and Nick for hosting us - we hope to visit again one day!

Beautifully refurbished B&B/guest house in Wheddon Cross, the highest village in the heart of Exmoor National Park
The house was built in 1910 to house a tailor, his family, the apprentices and the shop. The dining room still has the shop window and the original wood panelling, which makes it a lovely warm room to have breakfast in. The sitting room, which used to be the village reading room, has three large, comfy sofas, an open fire and a dining table. There are an assortment of books, games and puzzles which are there for your entertainment. We have two super-king/twin and three kingsized double guest bedrooms at Exmoor House which are all fully ensuite (some have baths and showers, some just showers). All our bedrooms have silent mini fridges, laptop safes, USB charging points, complimentary tea, coffee, fresh milk and biscuits, Freeview Smart Tvs with DVD players. free WiFi and we have Superfast broadband. Two of the rooms are 'Superior' and have bathrobes, slippers, complimentary chocolates and larger TVs. Coleridge has a sofa too. The ingredients used in our breakfasts are locally sourced wherever possible and we are very happy to cater for special diets, as long as you let us know beforehand. We have a wonderful pub opposite which serves great food for lunch and dinner. We are always happy to make a table reservation on your behalf.
Wheddon Cross is a working village, almost in the centre of Exmoor National Park, and it is not uncommon to see sheep being herded along the road immediately outside - always a spectacle. The location is ideal for exploring Somerset and North Devon. The area is great for walking and cycling and there are some excellent walks and cycle rides right from our door. There are plenty of other things to do as well (fishing, shooting, sailing, sailboarding, horse riding, ballooning - the list is almost endless) or you could just relax!
  • This is a beautiful Edwardian B&B. It was a tailor shop at one time. They have kept all the character of the building. The rooms are large and well appointed. The staircase is wide and easy to maneuver. The lounge is beautiful and they even lit a fire for us. Here we are sitting around reading with an open fire in an Edwardian house. Perfect! Wish we could have stayed longer then one night. It is quiet at night.

  • A very comfortable and immaculate room, plenty of space. Rosi was very attentive and eager to make our stay comfortable :) great central location to explore Exmoor which is stunning. Recommend this place highly !

    Deborah 2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here for one night with my boyfriend over the weekend and we both really enjoyed our stay. The location was great, in the middle of Exmoor and opposite the local pub. Perfect location if you wanted to explore the local area on foot as there are a number of walks starting from the town. The room itself was great and the bed was very comfortable. We had dinner there on the night we stayed and the food was delicious and they used local produce where possible and you could really taste the difference. The breakfast was great too. I'd highly recommend staying here if you want to explore the local area. We wished we had stayed there for a whole weekend rather than just one night. Rosi is a great host, attentive when you need something but also leaves you to enjoy yourself and her husband is great in the kitchen. If you are looking for a nice weekend away in a beautiful location with tasty local food and amazing scenery then i would highly recommend this B&B. Would be perfect for a weekend break with a group of friends as there are a few rooms available plus a drawing room which you can relax in and have a drink with board games and puzzles etc.

    Alex2014-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Rosi and Frank have a wonderful and quiet B&B in the middle of Exmoor National Park and are fantastic hosts. They go all the way to make your stay as comfortable and easy as you wish during your vacation, which includes the absolutely delicious breakfast, the much appreciated local recommendations and much more... We can highly recommend staying at their B&B and would love to come again. Next time for longer.

    Thomas2016-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Teri and her husband Austin gave us a very warm welcome on our arrival at Exmoor House, on a blustery autumnal day. We were in the area for a wedding, and we felt very fortunate to find such a comfortable room, with lots of thoughtful extras... We had the Coleridge suite, with a lovely outlook across Exmoor, torwards Dunkery and the hills. This superior room comes equipped with fridge, safe for laptop, wifi, (which is a bonus in the area, as phone reception is hit and miss), with bathrobes and other bath-related goodies to ensure a clean and warm end to a wet (albeit very enjoyable) evening. The complimentary chocolates, tea and coffee, with fresh milk, were most appreciated. The full English breakfast the following morning set us up for the our journey home. We can recommend Exmoor House without hesitation, as a great place to stay for a walking or cycling holiday.

    Ray2017-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely cosy B&B in a stunning part of the country. Lovely clean rooms, relaxing lounge area, good selection of hot drinks and biscuits. We felt at home almost immediately, which is surely a sign of a great B&B. Really accommodating to our needs, flexible and friendly. Good options for breakfast that leave you set up for the day. I highly recommend this place, I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

    Marc2017-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a fabulous find in the heart of Exmoor, with lots of wonderful walks on your doorstep. The owners have renovated the rooms to a very high standard with further renovations to the exterior of the building planned. The beds were comfy, the room spotlessly clean, fabulous shower and the mini fridge in the room was a much appreciated touch. Our breakfast on both mornings was delicious with a lovely selection to choose from and we were even treated to an afternoon tea. We had a wonderful, friendly welcome on arrival and we were made to feel at home. I would definitely recommend Exmoor house as a place to stay and we will be returning!

The Shippon is set in an ancient cobbled from yard with a private access up a short flight of flagstone steps. With open plan living all on a single floor and stable style doors it is safe for youngsters and pets.
Situated in the heart of the National Park we are close to Exford and Wheddon Cross with pubs and a small village store in each village. No visit is complete without climbing Dunkery Beacon which is rewarded with spectacular views from Dartmoor to the Brecon Beacons.
  • Chris and Freya were very welcoming, as was their friendly dog! We enjoyed having the garden to sit and the presence of various animals in the vicinity, including ducks, hens and guinea fowl. The location was great for exploring local sights and for walking. We had a peaceful and relaxing stay.

  • We had a great stay at Shippon Cottage. Chris and Freya were on hand to welcome us and show us round the cottage which was extremely well equipped, cosy and warm - despite the sprinklings of snow we saw on occasion! Great location for exploring the local countryside and nearby coast. We had a really lovely, relaxing weekend and hope to return.

  • We stayed in the cottage for a weekend with the family and had an amazing time. The cottage is cosy and the beds are very comfortable. • We had a great time staying in this little cowshed. The building is a really good conversion and has everything we needed. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfy and the water is hot! The farm is beautiful so the views are wonderful. As mentioned you definitely need a car but we found it easy to get out and about exploring the local area. Definitely recommend anyone staying here!

  • The cottages at Quarme are so well situated for walking Exmoor and also for going to the beaches. We enjoyed the views of rolling hills and endless fields of cows and sheep. It is so peaceful at the cottage (and dark, take a torch) and on a clear night you can see the stars and planets clearer from one of the numerous car parks on the moor. It's well worth turning out at night for. Take you telescope and enjoy. Our cottage was so clean, but the hosts were more than helpful, if you need anything just ask. Well done to you Katherine and Nick. We loved it and will be back for sure.

  • We had a wonderful time staying in Katherine's and Nick cottage - you could not wish for a nicer place (despite the rain!). It was a great pleasure to meet them. They helped us enormously for some important things, including great choices of where we should walk. The one drawback of staying in such a marvelous place such kind hosts is that our stay was shorter than we thought it would be - In short, it was too short! If you go and stay with Katherine and Nick as a result of reading our review, then we will be pleased too.

A cosy cottage in spacious grounds, with plenty to explore - a peaceful place to recharge your batteries surrounded by natural beauty. Two double bedrooms and a triple (a double bed and single bed). Two bathrooms (one of them en-suite) and a downstairs loo. A dining room and kitchen with beautiful views over the grounds, and a sitting room with a wood-burning stove.
Exmoor has a wealth of natural beauty to be discovered, and lots of opportunity for outdoor activities. Dunkery Beacon (the highest point on Exmoor) is 5.5 miles away. Wimbleball Lake with sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing is 5 miles away. Tarr Steps is 7.5 miles. The pretty medieval village of Dunster is 8 miles, and Dunster beach a couple of miles more. The North Devon surfing beaches are an hour away.
  • Communications with James were fantastic and he was extremely helpful during the booking process. The cottage was as described, if anything better - I loved the living room and wood-burning stove and the quiet, hidden location. The kitchen was also excellent with lovely big windows and views. I'd heartily recommend this property and cannot wait to return. Many thanks for a great stay!

  • Amazing views, beautiful location and everything you need to have a lovely weekend away!

  • We had a lovely welcoming tray of tea and biscuits. The cottage was perfect. It was very cosy and we did not want to leave! The location is superb if you love wildlife and want space to unwind and relax. The area of Exmoor that the cottage resides is wonderful to explore and very varied. We thoroughly recommend it as a place to stay.

  • Our trip was to celebrate my parents 60th birthdays and it truly lived up to expectations. The cottage is exactly as described and photographed. The location is very idyllic and very true to the Exmoor experience, we especially like the lounge area with a great wood burning fire. All in all I would highly recommend.

  • We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay than James' cottage - it was the perfect quiet getaway to recuperate after a local wedding. The location is sensational - picturesque surroundings, lots of wildlife and absolutely quiet - and there was everything there we could have hoped for, right down to a piano and log burning stove which we used late into the night.. I couldn't recommend this location more highly for a quiet getaway with family or friends. A very well run and cared for property that won't leave you disappointed.

  • Had a very good experience with property and the host. He was always very communicative. Responding very quickly to emails and was available on the phone. The place itself is lovely. Good sized bedrooms and well equipped kitchen. Would say it was perfect for a family. You will need a car when staying here. You are completely out of the way. The road leading to it is very very steep. It's in a very scenic location. Pictures are accurate and we had a very pleasant stay, wish we had more time to explore. We did have an issue with it not being cleaned but it was sorted out with a quick phone call.

  • James' place was perfect for us. Beautiful views, beautiful cottage, really well stocked kitchen. We had everything we could wish for an only wished we could stay longer. It's in a lovely location with nice walking nearby and it's easy to get in the car to see the highlights of Exmoor. Would definitely recommend.

  • We had a lovely stay at this secluded house which was clean and comfortable with a warming log burner. James was easy to contact when we had a problem and all the information provided was easy to understand.

Michael and Jackie are always happy to make recommendations and reservations. Activities abound here on Exmoor, both gentle and exhilarating. Touring, Walking, Cycling, Riding, Hunting, Shooting, Fishing, Tennis, Golf, Sailing and Surfing. We are able to advise upon and book all the above activities, please contact us for more details and we will be happy to assist.
  • We had a blissful stay, Jackie and Michael could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are beautiful, the whole house a testament to Jackie's other job of interior design. There's so much to see and do on Exmoor but you won't need a big pub lunch after one of Jackie's breakfasts - my only problem was managing to stagger up the hills in my over fed state! I hadn't warned my teens that they were going to be sharing bunk beds in case of argument but as it turned out Jackie has changed the bunks to single beds for safety, the girls were happy and loved their pretty room with its beautiful views over the garden to the hills.

  • Jackie was very warm and friendly upon our arrival, she made us tea with muffins & jam and a bit of fruitcake. The farmhouse is situated in a wonderful spot. The bedrooms and bathrooms were absolutely lovely and the private living room was brilliant made better with a real log fire. In the morning Jackie laid on a great breakfast including a full english which lasted me all day. She even let the kids pick some eggs from the chickens. Highly recommend, outstanding! We would definitely go back!

    Michael2016-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn't have been better. Jackie and her husband made us feel extremely welcome, everything was so comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic, everything you could wish for was there. We were new to Exmoor and Jackie gave us endless help as to where to go and what pubs to eat at - thankyou! We hope to be back soon!

    Hermione2016-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Jackie's place was just fantastic! The house is really pretty, more than tidy and very clean. Jackie herself is the perfect host: warm, welcoming and great company. The breakfast was amazing and we got a lot of tips about the area. She also recommended a local pub with delicious food. Unfortunately, we could only stay for one night but we would have loved to have stayed longer. Thank you for making us feel at home! I highly recommend staying at Jackie's beautiful farmhouse - we will definitely come back ourselves!

    Lisa2016-07-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jackie & Michael were lovely hosts, most welcoming and helpful. Their home is absolutely delightful - beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, cosy and comfortable. There were plenty of lovely luxurious touches to make the stay special. The location is beautiful, rural with superb views of their little valley but very accessible. Jackie and Michael made the stay memorable for our kids by sharing their lifestyle with us - feeding the sheep, collecting the chicken's eggs and riding ponies. I cannot rate them highly enough as hosts.

    Sam2016-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Superb rooms, property, location and hospitality. Could not recommend more highly. We will certainly be back.

  • The best B&B during our trip through England ! Jackie was a wonderful host, very welcoming. The rooms are clean and spacious. The breakfast was excellent. Jackie gave us very useful information about places to eat and visit. We would highly recommend Jackie´s B&B for family visiting Exmoor ! Thanks Jackie !

  • This was our first time using Airbnb and we weren't entirely sure what to expect, so we were all pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Farm! It's setting is beautiful and Jackie couldn't do enough for us, we had a welcoming cup of tea and homemade delicious cake in the garden on arrival. The rooms and bathroom we perfect! We were made to feel incredibly welcome and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be returning when I pass through Exmoor again, if anything for Jackie's wonderful breakfast, and would highly recommend visiting!!

Neighbourhood; On exmoor. Near the sea. Lots of outdoor pursuits. Walking, Canoeing, Coasteering, Fishing, Safari, Pony trekking. Castles; Good pubs and restaurants. West Somerset Railway.
  • Absolutely enjoyed our stay, felt so good to be off the grid and away from everyone, spend some quality time with my partner, back to basics with the candles and camp fire. Joy is the kindest woman and perfect host! Tending to all our needs even before we got there! Jake is the loveliest dog who you could see really enjoyed our company, and presumably any other visitors'. Such a perfect location in the valley, with paths that lead to wonderful mountainous views (once you get up there). Comfortable bed, all the necessities right there, could not be more equipped if they tried! Will definitely recommend to anyone who, like us city people, want to get away from the noise and people!

    Nesa2016-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most incredible day/night in the shepherds hut. Joy and her husband were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Gorgeous little touches such as cider left cooling in the stream and delicious eggs from their own chickens. The hut itself was beautifully decorated and comfortable with everything you could possibly need inside, and the outdoor composting toilet was very clean. The shower was lovely with very hot water and easy to use. Area was absolutely stunning with lots of pretty walks in the surrounding woods and loads of space to chill out around the hut. Cannot wait to go back and stay here again..for longer this time! Thanks very much :)

    Sylvia2015-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in this beautiful hut. It was lovely to be off grid in this stunning location. Joy was a great host. She answered all our questions and explained how everything worked. We loved the beers that were left cooling in the stream!Would recommend anyone to stay here it was great.

    Tom2016-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful two night stay in the shepherd's hut. Joy was a fantastic host, who greeted us warmly before driving us down to our little home for the weekend. After showing us around, we were left to our own devices, to enjoy cooking on the campfire, stargazing, and a weekend without mobile reception!! The hut is comfortable and warm, with everything you could ask for in terms of creature comforts provided (highlights for us included the hot outdoor shower, proper coffee making facilities and evenings by candle light) and little touches such as beers cooling in the stream on arrival and marshmallows for toasting on the fire really set it off. It is also very conveniently located for exploring Exmoor and the surrounding area. We have been recommending to all of our friends since we arrived home and will definitely return.

    Byron2016-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • What can we say about The Shepherds Hut... it was perfect! We were looking for a little somewhere to have a quite night away from everything and everyone and it was absolutely perfect! We met Joy at the farm and boarded the 'gator' to be taken down the fields to the hut. The Hut was beautifully equipped with everything you would think to need (and everything you didn't think about too!). The bed was comfy and duvet was amazingly toasty. Facilities are located in a little trailer where there is a loo, fridge and an excellent shower out the back - this is an outdoor shower which was a great experience! We cooked dinner on the fire pit and enjoyed an evening under the stars. We would highly recommend visiting the shepherd hut if you want a bight or two away from it all. Bring all of the food you would want and enjoy being in the middle of Exmoor. Joy and her husband were excellent hosts and couldn't have been more helpful. We will be visiting again :)

  • Had a lovely stay at the Shepherd's Hut. Stunning location at the bottom of an absolutely beautiful valley. The griddle, cooking pot and kettle provided were great to cook with out in the open over the fire. Lighting the wood stove inside the hut was easy and very cosy! My boyfriend had a bit of an accident with the car as we were leaving and Joy and her husband were genuinely kind, understanding and helpful. One of the best Airbnb experiences so far. Thank you!

    Pegah2017-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Just a perfect spot to escape. The hut is wonderfully cozy and surprisingly well equipped considering its size. The valley is so pretty and isolated it would be hard not to relax there. Joy and her husband were lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. We would defiantly go again.

  • Beautiful home in an idyllic secluded location within Exmoor National Park. Great communication from Maureen. Very spacious home. Fit 5 adults a toddler and a baby very comfortably and the kids had enough space to play in. Thank you very much.

  • Magical garden and a fairy tale place with lots of rooms to relax or have a family gathering. The kitchen diner is wonderful. You can have a family game around the table with the warmth from the Aga. You can explore Exmoor famous places easily from here, have a fantastic meal at the Coleridge/Dunkery Beacon hotel nearby. Minehead is close by. We'd very much recommend this place for Nature lover and hikers. But bring enough clean clothes so you do not need to do laundry and ironing.

  • This was a beautiful cottage, spatious and very comfortable. The Exmoor National Park is right on the door step and the beach about 15 minutes away. The hosts could not have been more welcoming or friendlier to us. It was a perfect weekend away! Thank you!

    Amy2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • The 5 of us spent 5 days in this gorgeous Exmoor cottage in the very picturesque village Wootton Courtenay. It was everything we hoped and more. A charming country cottage with lots of space, set in it's own grounds in a very tranquil location. I would recommend planning your day trips ahead to allow for travelling time to the coast and other attractions. Dunster has some good pubs and restaurants including the Dunkery Beacon located within 1 mile of the cottage. The host Alison was so friendly and welcoming and easily contactable if we had any queries. We did see them on a daily basis however this was no way intrusive and if anything, was very useful.

    James2016-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We were a bunch of friends and family. The house is opulently decorated and nothing seems to be out of place. It is self-contained and perfect if you are looking for a 'close to nature' place. We also got a chance to do barbecue and nice food. The facilities are all good. We had lots of fun despite some hiccups. I would highly recommend this place.

The Great House, is itself is a large, comfortable, cheerful and atmospheric house with loads of character in a wonderful location and is the perfect place to party with friends and family. The Great House is only 150 yards from the village centre with its church , post office and pub and only 2 miles from the heritage village of Dunster and 3 miles from the coast. The Great House is a people friendly house (children and adults), located in the beautiful Exmoor National Park.
The GREAT HOUSE itself is a house of contrasts, the front is Georgian, being built in 1720 onto the original Tudor house; while the original front, is only in evidence in the enclosed yard, reputed to have been used as a “Cock Pit”. The house is Grade 2 listed and the rather elegant staircase and inbuilt dog gate is down as being of particular historic interest. The Great House welcomes you for a holiday on Exmoor. For most it will not be the first time, but for newcomers, this part of the country holds something for everybody, and the Great House itself is something of the grander houses on Exmoor, it offers ample accommodation, either in the elegant Georgian part of the property, or in the rambling Tudor portion of the house. The Georgian Bit This is typically Georgian with large well-proportioned rooms. All rooms retain the original pine panelling, and although now painted white, does make the rooms extremely light and attractive. When one enters the house, one immediately starts to feel at home. Ahead is the elegant staircase which leads down to the living rooms in the Tudor portion of the house, and up to the many bedrooms in the house. There are two rooms on this floor, situated on either side of the door as you come in. These are perhaps the most attractive rooms in the house, with fine panelling, attractive recesses and window seats. To the left is a sitting room, often used as the quiet room in the house. This has a TV and recorder, and a rather elegant baby grand piano. There is also a double put-u-up, though this is seldom used as a bed, there being ample accommodation in the rest of the house. There is also a fully fitted kitchenette off of this room. The Tudor Bit This is in complete contrast to the Georgian bit, with only a small remnant of the original facia of the house visible. It is large and rambling, with beams, inglenooks, the “Cock Pit” and the “Cocktail Bar” The large farmhouse style kitchen, has a fridge/freezers, a larder fridge and another freezer and fridge, a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and a range style cooker with a griddle and double oven. It looks out onto the secluded walled garden with glimpses of Dunkery Beacon (the highest point on Exmoor) and beyond. There is a large comfortable lounge with inglenook fireplace, 42″ TV with SKY Sports, video recorder, DVD player and WI-FI. Off the lounge is a large imposing dining room, complete with inglenook fireplace and flagstone floor; ideal for entertaining this seats 20 people comfortably or 22 cosily, although 27 people have been known to sit down for one of our dinner parties. The Bedrooms The bedrooms are all large and attractive rooms, and all could be termed bed sitting rooms. They also have the benefit of large Georgian windows, from which you can enjoy fine views over the village and up the valley.Bedroom 1 This is on the right as you enter the house, it is the only ground floor bedroom and is often used by the more elderly guests. It has twin beds and an ensuite with shower. Bedroom 2 First floor right. This has a double bed and a single divan, plus an ensuite bathroom with electric shower. Bedroom 3 First floor left. This room enjoys a double aspect, and has twin single beds and an ensuite bathroom. Bedroom 4 is also off of this room. Bedroom 4 First floor centre. Ideal for children or somebody you know well. Bedroom 5 Second floor right. This has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom. Bedroom 6 Second floor centre. This has one double bed.. Bedroom 7 Second floor left. This room enjoys a double aspect, and has a double bed, plus an ensuite bathroom and electric shower. For those bedrooms with no ensuite facilities, there are other easily accessible toilets and bathrooms. All the bedrooms have duvets though blankets are also available; all bed linen is supplied. Tea towels and cleaning equipment are also supplied (Dishwasher powder etc) though personal towels are not. In the Tudor portion of the house there are three addittional bedrooms, two large family rooms and one double. They all look out over the garden and then over the village to Dunkery and beyond. The first, which is the largest, is nicknamed the “Dorm” and is ideal for children sharing with its five single beds. The second has one double and one single bed, while the third has one double bed and a toilet and bathroom immediately off of this room. There is also another large bathroom and toilet on this floor, while downstairs there is an additional toilet and cloakroom.

  • The house is fantastic! A flexible space that comfortably worked for 2 adults and 4 children aged 2 to 7. Beautiful views can be enjoyed from the breakfast table and it is warm, cosy and snug after a busy day outside! Claire is lovely and so helpful!

  • Lovely cottage in a beautiful location!!

    Anna2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Old School House was ideal for our stay. It's in a good location within easy reach of Exmoor and pretty nearby towns such as Dulverston. The cottage itself is full of character, very comfortable with everything you need to hand, from crockery to comfy dog beds. The view of the hills from the kitchen makes washing up a pleasure :)

    Matt2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very warm when we arrived, and the tray of tea things (including cake) and milk in the fridge were much appreciated. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. It was good to have a piano too. The area was lovely, and we certainly had a good time.

    Anne2015-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage with a wood burning stove, and in a good location to walk around Exmoor. Appreciated the cake :)

    Maxwell2017-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic weekend, the cottage was beautiful and the area was really nice. There were a few nice walks close-by too. Would recommend.

    Erik2016-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay in Claire's cottage. It was a lovely place for the weekend. Everyone's rooms were great and the living room is cosy and sociable. Lovely touches with tea, coffee and cake waiting, and logs/firelighters ready for the fire. The whole place was spotlessly clean and we couldn't have asked for more. Key collection / arrival and directions are all great. I'd definitely recommend.

You will love our luxurious newly converted barn with its woodburning stove and sauna. It is adjacent to our farmhouse so help is on hand with advice on the local area; we run guided walks and can provide breakfasts and farmhouse suppers on request. Although we are in a secluded valley, it is just a short walk along the riverbank to the village stores, two recommended pubs and a tearoom, so no worries about whose turn it is to drive!

Both these hotels have excellent restaurants for non-residents. Exford is a walkers paradise with many miles of way marked paths down the valley following the river Exe, or over the moors of Exmoor to the coast, some 6 miles away. Exford is renowned for hunting, shooting, fishing and riding with the village hosting a horse show every August. The Exmoor coastal towns of Lynmouth, Porlock and Minehead are a short drive away whilst Taunton and the M5 are only 26 miles away. Exmoor is a beautiful place to visit. It is the home of Lorna Doone and Tarka the otter. It is a place of rolling hills, medieval villages, wild moors and a dramatic coastline. The moor does literally meet the sea with the highest sea cliffs in England. In 2011 Exmoor National Park was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first place in Europe to achieve this prestigious award and only the second in the world.

  • The overall environment and hospitality as well as the family dog and all recommendations have been fantastic. The rooms (bed- & bathroom, common areas) are tastefully decorated and the view is incredibly wonderful. Thanks to Caroline and David, we had an unforgettable stay in an awesome, romantic and natural location - THANK YOU

  • Caroline is the perfect hostess, and if possible, Holmdale is even more beautiful in the flesh. Just a 5 minute walk into the village, with a choice of two pubs, it really is the perfect jumping off spot for exploring exmoor. We would definitely stay with Caroline again.

    Emily2016-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Holmdale is a lovely home and our double room was gorgeous with great attention to detail. Caroline was very welcoming when we arrived, including our golden retriever! Would definitely recommend this accommodation and if we venture back to Exmoor would love to stay here again. Lots of maps and information available to explore the area and breakfast was set up in your room with kettle and toaster (yoghurt, croissants and fruit bread to toast) the room had a fridge with milk and juice in - this made the stay very flexible. Many thanks for a wonderful three nights.

  • Just had two lovely peaceful nights with Caroline. A lovely room with a wonderfully comfortable bed, toiletries included and everything we would require to serve our own breakfast in our room. Thank you, Caroline, we really enjoyed our stay with you in beautiful Exford.

    Sue2017-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • As first time users of air bnb we were pleasantly surprised by Caroline's place which exceeded our expectations. We were met by welcoming hosts, who were knowledgable of the surrounding area and made our two night stay extremely comfortable. We would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone else who considers heading to Exmoor.

The cottage is close to family-friendly activities. You’ll love my place because of the coziness. Suitable for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families .
Highertown Cottage can be found in the tiny village of Brompton Regis (approx. 200 inhabitants)Between village shop and the church, nestled in the Brenden Hills in the south east corner of Exmoor National Park in Somerset. With views of rolling farmland this 300 year old two storey cottage with its colourful patio garden has two upstairs double guest rooms which share the bathroom. Comfortably furnished with double glazing and central heating means cosy comfort all year round. A locally sourced hearty breakfast served in the main living room is included in the price and the local pub provides excellent evening meals. Walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and water sports at nearby Wimbleball Lake (1.8 miles away) are activities our guests can enjoy locally, or just relax by the river with a cream tea and watch the world go by. The perfect place for a long or short stress-free break in beautiful Somerset. The local village shop is 2 doors away and sells a range of local jams, honey and other produce - nice gifts to take home! The attractive town of Dulverton is 4.5 miles away with great local shopping, a cash point in the supermarket and the headquarters of the Exmoor National Park. There are also a range of restaurants available to discover there. We regret that Highertown Cottage with its steep narrow staircase, low ceilings and uneven upstairs floors is unsuitable for physically disabled guests. Older children are welcome (10+), accompanied by an adult. Off-road parking is available next to the property. 6.8.2016 From web site
  • This cottage is in a fantastic part of the rural countryside. It has a warm cosy feel. The best part of our experience was meeting Trish who is an amazing women and very much part of the local community. She knows a lot about the local area and provided us with lovely cooked breakfasts and excellent recommendations. I definitely recommend this accommodation. It was lovely to meet Trish and I look forward to staying in touch.

    Kevin2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Trish was a delightful host and cooks a mean cooked breakfast from local produce! Very enjoyable stay. The place is right next to the local pub and also handy if you want to walk in Exmoor being actually inside it and not on the outskirts. Would highly recommend.

  • What a treat we had with Trish. We were truly in heaven, absolutely charmed by our room, the views, the local pub and especially by our hostess Trish. Do not hesitate to book here, snap it up, you will have a storybook experience !

  • Trish was very welcoming and a great host. Her home is a lovely old cottage with wonky floorboards and plenty of character. We had the twin bed room which, although small, was very comfortable and had all we needed. Breakfast the next morning was really tasty....locally sourced ingredients...and with the added benefit of our host keeping us entertained with a wealth of interesting stories from her well-travelled life.

Lots of bird song. Breakfast very good with lots of choice and excellent home cooking. The room had facilities to make hot drinks including fresh milk. The bathroom had shampoo and bath foam. My daughter and I would certainly like to return to this excellent B&B in future. Very good value.

  • What an amazing place Glen Lodge is! From the moment we arrived, to the day with left, we had such a lovely time and were well looked after by Meryl and her husband. The Apple Loft is a fabulously decorated apartment that i wish i could take home with me. Everything was spotless and everything we needed was there. The grounds of Glen Lodge are simply stunning, with forests, rivers and a view across the channel, just some of its endearing features. Our hosts were on hand whenever we had a question and were always greeting us and asking how our day was. We will certainly be coming back to Porlock. Thank you from the Barnes'

  • Loved loved loved Apple Tree Loft! The place was well appointed and the location is delightful! I spent much time drinking tea or photographing through the window in the bedroom! Didn't meet Meryl but her husband, David, was an absolute gem! He helped us out in so many ways, not the least of which was telling us all about the history of Glen Lodge. The area is just adorable and there is so much to see and do, especially if you're walkers! We loved it here! We already want to go back! Gaynelle

  • we had a wonderful week in The Apple Loft, the flat is furbished to a very high standard, located in beautiful grounds in the lovely village of Hawkcombe, walking distance from shops, pubs and restaurants in Porlock, with great walks on the doorstep. Our hosts were very friendly and provided advice and walking maps. Highly recommended!

    Alessandra2015-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • We've just spent a very lovely three nights in Porlock. We didn't meet Meryl but her husband David looked after us and took his time to show us the apartment, and on our departure was keen to make sure we provided feedback on how things could be done better - and there wasn't much of that to give. The dog friendly space itself is small but perfectly formed and is ideal for two or three people - although the 5 of us were happy enough. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped but as there was 5 of us so a few extra cups and plates could have been handy. The bathroom has a fantastic shower and the main bedroom is quite spacious, and is a lovely calm, comfortable space with view of the sea. A few things I hadn't appreciated/may have missed in the description - The second room is tiny - not much bigger than the single bed it houses (but our son loved it for that reason). There is no washer/dryer in the apartment although perhaps this was available up at the main house and with three kids would have been handy :) We didn't find the sofa bed particularly comfortable (and after a few glasses of red it didn't matter much!) but the bed in the lovely main bedroom was fine. Our children absolutely loved the hot tub!! The apartment is cosy, clean, peaceful... we loved it and are very grateful to have enjoyed the experience. Thank you.

  • The Apple Loft is a beautiful, light and airy space which is finished to a very high standard. The location is wonderful and we enjoyed the short walk down the hill to Porlock. We would definitely return in the future, thank you for a great stay!

  • What a lovely place! The accommodation is finished to a very high standard and is very comfortable! Beautifully situated in a lovely leafy, quiet and idyllic part of Porlock the views all around are lovely. There's a lovely outside seating area which was perfect for star gazing. Despite there being other guests in the other apartment it was very private and we rarely saw them...mostly due to the clever design and layout of the accommodation. There's a fabulous hot tub up at the house which we felt a little shy to ask to use but the kids insisted! So glad we have in it was an amazing experience to look out over the valley at sunset and to see the first stars appearing in the sky! The hosts were truly accommodating and very friendly and approachable. I would highly recommend this place. We'll be back :-)

Raleigh Lodge is positioned in a beautiful spot at the head of the Avill valley in the heart of the Exmoor National Park, and just a short distance from the village of Wheddon Cross. The views from the living room and terraced gardens are spectacular. Here you will be ideally located to take advantage of the excellent opportunities to walk and cycle, whether you choose the open slopes of the moor towards Dunkery Beacon, or wooded Avill valley below, famous for its snowdrops. From the property there is direct access onto footpaths to Dunkery, Snowdrop Valley and many other routes.
From the car parking area at the front of the property the entrance door leads into a hallway. The spacious sitting room has a wood-burner at the far and two comfortable sofas, perfect for unwinding with family or friends after a day exploring. The large sliding doors allow you to enjoy the views from the comfort of the sofa, or you can also sit outside on the patio furniture. Separate to the main sitting room is the 'snug' or TV room, which has the television cleverly hidden in the cabinet. The kitchen/dining room has wonderfully high ceilings with exposed beams and is fitted with an Aga which ensures a warm and cosy atmosphere. Sliding doors from the kitchen lead out to the cobbled courtyard to the rear, complete with barbecue for cooking and dining al fresco. From the kitchen a rear hallway leads to the utility room which has plenty of room for hanging coats and storing boots, and has an external door to the car parking area. The master bedroom has a king-sized double bed with a unique bed frame, the bedroom has fitted wardrobes and a roll top bath, plus a separate en-suite shower room. Of the other two bedrooms, one has a super-king bed (that can be made up as twin beds if requested at time of booking), and this room has an en-suite wet room. The third bedroom has a double bed, with a shower room adjacent (off the hall). Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement (maximum of 3). A supplementary fee of £15 will be added to your invoice per dog. Please do not allow you dogs on the furniture, or into the bedroom end of the property and do not leave them alone in the property at any time.
