Holiday Rentals in Withypool

Just booked in Withypool

My place is close to Exmoor National Park, the beach. You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space, the comfy bed, the warm welcome. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
Exmoor is a National Park with dark sky status. The house is about 3 miles from the nearest village so on a clear night the stars are spectacular!
  • Great place for animal lovers but even if you're not you won't be able to fault the charms of this cob cottage and most of all how welcoming Angie is. The rooms and bathroom were very clean, the beds very comfortable and the continental style breakfast unexpected and plentiful.

  • It's feels like staying at your grandmas house. We laughed when reading other reviews about the cereal selection but were amazed with 6-7 brands available! The dogs are great after you let them cool down upon first greeting. Ones sounded like it wanted to knock the front door down when arriving! The beds were extremely comfortable and lots of room. It can be very hard to find without maps and has a sharp entrance but she described exactly where to find it.

  • Not easy to find (half way between Simonsbath and Exford), very warm welcome and wonderful breakfast!

  • Perfect bed and breakfast experience in the countryside / seaside. Angie is an amazing host who has great recommendations for exploring Exmoor (hikes, local food, etc...)The breakfast she offers for 5 pounds a person is also excellent! Her property is pet friendly too which we loved

  • We were warmly welcomed by Angie (and her two lovely dogs) at her cosy cottage. It is well positioned for nature walks in the park and close to interesting villages nearby. Breakfast included freshly prepared fruits with a variety of cereals, toast and spreads. Angie was very helpful in recommending things to do. Would definitely recommend staying over at her place to others.

  • Angie is such an amazing host. She is very kind and she knows how to make you feel at home. When I arrived, she offered me a cup of tea and we had a good chat. The house is lovely and the beds are very comfy. My stay at Angie's made my stay in Exmoor even more better. This place is everything I like about Airbnb: a nice cosy place to stay where you can meet lovely people. Would definitely go back ! PS: Angie's two dogs are lovely too, and they'll love you in return if you like cuddles ;)

  • I stayed a week in Red Deer East. Angie is a very friendly lady who gave me enough tips on the beautiful environment of Exmoor, the breakfast was excellent and the room very good. I look back at this period with great delight. For me the place was central within the area of Exmoor from where I could easily visit other spots.

    Bruno2017-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay, bed was very comfortable coupled with the peace and quiet and darkness made for a perfect nights sleep. Breakfast was simple but more than enough to keep you going for a day exploring. Plenty of local pubs (short drive) for good food. Great stay will happily go back hopefully with better weather for stargazing!

Linhay Cottage is situated in the heart of Exmoor, it is approached by a private ½ a mile long drive (shared with the farm and another property) directly off Withypool Common. The property has recently been renovated throughout and now offers comfortable holiday accommodation for up to 3 guests. This property is an ideal base for anyone looking for a rural retreat with modern conveniences, if are looking for a ‘get-away’ and want to explore Exmoor you will not be disappointed!
This property is an ideal base for anyone looking for a rural retreat with modern conveniences, if are looking for a ‘get-away’ and want to explore Exmoor you will not be disappointed! As the name suggests, Linhay Cottage is situated next to a working farm. A linhay (pronounced linny) is a traditional farm building; the open front and regularly spaced pillars are typical of this type of building. The cottage was once the farm’s grooms quarters and overlooks the stable yard. There is a garden area to the rear of the property, which is fenced but not enclosed. The owners are still working on improving the outside areas of the cottage. Please note, Linhay Cottage water comes from a private reservoir, it is treated for consumption before being supplied to the cottage. There is a large stable yard which provides access to the front of the property. Outside furniture is provided to enable guests to enjoy this sheltered sunny spot. To access the garden area at the rear of the property, you must walk around the outside of the building. The garden is fenced but it is not enclosed at the present time. The owners are continuing to improve the outside areas around the house. There is a ‘woodland walk’ just down the lane from the property, which takes you out at the bottom of the first field, if you carry on walking down the hill through the fields you will come out on the footpath, right goes to Withypool or left to Landacre Bridge. There is ample parking for two or three cars under the cover of the linhay beside the property, or on the concrete yard. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement (maximum of 2). A supplementary fee of £15 will be added to your invoice per dog. Please do not allow you dogs on the furniture or in the bedrooms, and do not leave them alone in the property at any time.
  • Linhay Cottage is set in the hart of Exmoor within the boundary of a working farm. The morning calls of the cows or geese just added to atmosphere of the surrounding area. A small herd of the famous Exmoor ponies were seen daily and we managed to get a very close view of them. The cottage is located near Withypool, a lovely village with an excellent tea room and small store situated on the River Barle. Some local sights are very close: Tarr Steps, Landacre Bridge, and the Exmoor Pony Centre are worthy places to visit. The coastal road from Lynton/Lynmouth to Porlock is an experience to drive and certainly raised the heart rate a little, but the coastal views from the top was absolutely breathtaking. Will definitely be returning to both Exmoor and Linhay Cottage

You will love our luxurious newly converted barn with its woodburning stove and sauna. It is adjacent to our farmhouse so help is on hand with advice on the local area; we run guided walks and can provide breakfasts and farmhouse suppers on request. Although we are in a secluded valley, it is just a short walk along the riverbank to the village stores, two recommended pubs and a tearoom, so no worries about whose turn it is to drive!
Spindrift barn was converted in 2017 from stabling with a threshing floor above. We have retained the traditional character with the original oak beams and the stairs were created using timber from an old wharf and jetty, hence the nautical references in the name and decor. The barn is completely self contained and is a lovely, welcoming space to come back to after a busy day exploring this wonderful area. There is a drying area on the mezannine for wet coats and walking boots and the large woodburner lights in seconds. Underfloor heating throughout the ground floor keeps you toasty in the winter and large french windows on two floors give easy access to your own herb garden in the summer.
The barn is perfectly situated, quiet and peaceful with no passing traffic, just the sound of the river and our resident tawny owls to lull you to sleep at night. However, you are only a short stroll from the two pubs, village shops and tea room situated in Exford village, and totally spoilt for choice for walks from the front door.

The Tea Rooms serve snacks, meals and lovely cakes. The Royal Oak pub also serves meals. Places To Visit There is much to see and do on Exmoor. Tarr Steps is a beautiful spot and is home to the longest clapper bridge of its kind in Britain and is a lovely walk along the river from Withypool. Dunkery Beacon is worth a visit. It is the highest point on Exmoor with views over the moor and the Bristol Channel. Dulverton is about 15 minutes drive and is close to where the Rivers Exe and Barle meet. Dunster is a medieval village dominated since the late 11th century by its castle and boasting over 200 listed buildings. The seaside towns of Lynton & Lynmouth also make a great day out and are linked by the famous cliff railway. There are also some lovely coastal walks from here. A popular walk is to the Valley of the Rocks with great scenery and a flock of wild goats! Beaches - Woolacombe & Croyde Bay are about 45 minutes drive and are beautiful sandy beaches, popular with surfers. Woolacombe is also dog friendly throughout the year in designated areas. NB many beaches do not permit dogs from April to September. Minehead is about 30 minutes drive. Activities Whatever the weather, Exmoor has a rugged beauty and there is much to explore in its wooded valleys and on the open moor. It is home to red deer, Exmoor ponies, otters and bats. Here are some of the best ways to see it: Walking - bring your walking boots and, if you have one, your dog and explore the beautiful moorland! There are many fabulous walks awaiting you. The Two Moors Way passes through Withypool. Cycling - on road or off, Exmoor is a very popular place for cyclists of all levels. Riding - nothing beats exploring the moor on horseback. Watersports - Wimbleball Lake offers various watersports. Wildlife - There are several companies running safaris on Exmoor for viewing the local wildlife.
  • Lovely cottage, which was very clean and had a lot of space. I liked the kitchen especially. Beautiful area and this is well placed for getting to Wimbleball lake, for anyone doing the half ironman next year ;). Thanks very much!

    Caro2016-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Cottage was clean and had every thing we needed for our stay. Also it is in a great location for access to the village and walking on the moor. You should visit the local pub " Royal Oak" , Tarr steps and Dunster Castle & gardens. All within easy reach.

    Robin2017-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very spacious and comfortable cottage with friendly host. Thanks for all the help and guidance provided.

    Sudharsan2017-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful country cottage with all the modern conveniences that you need to feel at home. The cottage is airy, light and comfortable. It was a pleasure to return there after wet and windy days walking on the moors. The heating system is particularly effective and we needed it even though it was it was only early September. There is no cell-phone coverage, but the wifi works well. Withypool is a pleasant village with a good pub/restaurant, a tea-room/snackbar and a village shop for essentials. For the main shopping, it´s best to go to Tesco or Morrison´s in Minehead. It is very remote, which thankfully means it is peaceful and quiet, unlike some of the villages closer to the main roads. The cottage is well located for those who, as we do, like to make round-trip day-hikes starting and ending at their own front door. There are also many interesting places to see within a half-hour drive. Alison has a good collection of hiking guides, maps and local literature that we found useful. If you´re not arriving in daylight, make sure your satnav will take you all the way to the door.

  • Gorse cottage was perfect for our group to stay. Clean and everything we could need, in a lovely location

    Ruth2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Gorse Cottage is lovely! Spacious & clean and had everything we needed in a great location for exploring Exmoor. Withypool is very small but has a tea room/pub & shop so what else do you need! Also, paddling/boating on the river is a must and just a 3 minute walk away. A dip in Wimbleball Lake is recommended too! We had a bit of an issue whilst we were there but Alison was so helpful and communicative, as was Dawn (the housekeeper) and the chap who owns the shop. We would definitely recommend Gorse Cottage and will hopefully return one day.

  • This is a little gem of a cottage, we loved it! Spacious and so well equipped, comfy beds and very clean. Perfect location for walking and an hour to Woolacombe. We would thoroughly recommend it. Thank you

  • Caroline is a welcoming host who responds quickly to requests to book and when you're enjoying your visit to Exmoor has a wealth of knowledge about what you can do to fill your days.

    Marc2016-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline is the perfect hostess, and if possible, Holmdale is even more beautiful in the flesh. Just a 5 minute walk into the village, with a choice of two pubs, it really is the perfect jumping off spot for exploring exmoor. We would definitely stay with Caroline again.

    Emily2016-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • As first time users of air bnb we were pleasantly surprised by Caroline's place which exceeded our expectations. We were met by welcoming hosts, who were knowledgable of the surrounding area and made our two night stay extremely comfortable. We would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone else who considers heading to Exmoor.

    Luke2017-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Holmdale is a lovely home and our double room was gorgeous with great attention to detail. Caroline was very welcoming when we arrived, including our golden retriever! Would definitely recommend this accommodation and if we venture back to Exmoor would love to stay here again. Lots of maps and information available to explore the area and breakfast was set up in your room with kettle and toaster (yoghurt, croissants and fruit bread to toast) the room had a fridge with milk and juice in - this made the stay very flexible. Many thanks for a wonderful three nights.

    Sally2017-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • Just had two lovely peaceful nights with Caroline. A lovely room with a wonderfully comfortable bed, toiletries included and everything we would require to serve our own breakfast in our room. Thank you, Caroline, we really enjoyed our stay with you in beautiful Exford.

  • The overall environment and hospitality as well as the family dog and all recommendations have been fantastic. The rooms (bed- & bathroom, common areas) are tastefully decorated and the view is incredibly wonderful. Thanks to Caroline and David, we had an unforgettable stay in an awesome, romantic and natural location - THANK YOU

  • It was very clean. Nice linens. Nice view from the bedroom. Nice gardens. They seem very nice but the lack of insulation of the room was not pleasant. Having a curfew on WIFI is not appropriate.

Grooms Cottage was formerly part of the stable block at Yealscombe Farm. It is beautifully located at the head of its own private valley, surrounded by fields and woodland. Situated on the outskirts of Exford, a pretty and unspoilt village right in the centre of the Exmoor National Park. The Cottage is light and bright with a vaulted ceiling in the living area and double bedroom. The Kitchen is well equipped and there is also a drying room. Perfectly located to explore Exmoor.

  • Beautiful location, with an easy walk to Exford. We would highly recommend the groom's cottage.

    Luke2017-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Grooms Cottage at Yealscombe farm was absolutely beautiful inside and out. Beautifully decorated and seemingly recently renovated, more than adequately provisioned and perfectly positioned for nearby walks. The nearby bridleway around the valley was very useful for a quick walk with the dog in the morning before heading out for the day. Tracy was lovely and very helpful throughout our stay.

    Anthony2017-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a lovely week in Grooms Cottage. The communication was great between myself and Simon, very fast responses and very helpful. We found the property with no problem and were amazed by the location and views! Tracey came and showed us everything when we arrived and said to just let them know if there was anything else we needed help with as they were very close. The cottage was very welcoming and homely with some lovely touches including a delicious chocolate cake! It really made us feel very much at home. The kitchen was stocked really well with anything you might need if you are going to be cooking yourself, even Tupperware for days out! Everything was very clean and the beds were very comfortable! The kids loved the toys that were left in their bedroom and loved getting to help feed the animals and play with Silas, the very friendly doggy! The cottage is well positioned close to the village of Exford which was lovely and easy to get to most other places in Exmoor. The scenery was stunning and we all definitely want to come back! Thank you for making our stay a very enjoyable one!

The SSSI extends off into the woodlands and the owners are sympathetically managing this to promote its flora and fauna, with rare lichens on some of the older trees and fallen trunks providing great homes for all sorts of creatures. Kiri Cottage is an ideal base to explore the North Devon coast and its picturesque villages including Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth. Dulverton, considered to be the southern gateway to Exmoor, is 10 minutes’ drive away. This pretty town is well stocked with quality boutiques, grocery shops, inns and restaurants as well as the Exmoor National Park visitor centre. West Hollowcombe Farm is a fabulous holiday destination for anyone who enjoys outdoor activities, dramatic landscapes and wildlife.
  • Really spacious barn conversion, in a peaceful and secluded setting. Perfect for getting away from the daily grind! Beautiful countryside for walking the dog too.

The Cottage has 2 bedrooms, open plan kitchen and dining area and a separate sitting room with open fire and sofas. There is a private terrace with picnic table facing west to catch the evening sun.
We are located in the heart of the moor close to wonderful walks, rides, pubs and villages. The moor, river valleys and coast provide wonderful scenery what ever the weather.
  • We booked this weekend for our parents and they came back and could not have been happier with their break. They said Chris and Freya are a lovely couple and extremely helpful. The cottage is lovely and just what they wanted. Quiet, secluded and surrounded by a million places to walk the dog. They are planning a return trip which is testament to how great their weekend was

    Chris & Elise2017-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described. Excellent stay. Chris and Freya very welcoming, very helpful. Very well kitted out, all you need. Very comfortable. Location is great for walking on the moor or getting the coast or exploring the Exmoor towns.

    Steve2017-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and Freya were great hosts. They made us feel very welcome. The farm is beautiful and peaceful - just what we needed from a short escape to the countryside. There are some nice short walks around the house, with stunning landscape and animals to look at. The cottage itself is comfortable and had everything we needed for eating and relaxing during the rainier parts of our stay.

    Jack2016-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and Freya were there to meet us when we arrived. Freya showed us around and we were able to buy some fresh from the farm eggs for our breakfast (they were delicious!). The Ballroom Cottage is on the first floor above storage areas, which means you get the advantage of fantastic views over the beautiful scenery. It is a characterful building and has a lovely clean simplicity to it. The beds were comfortable and the linen crisp and there were plenty of towels. The kitchen is small but very well stocked with equipment (even decent kitchen knives which is rare!). The farm was not a big industrial affair, but more of a picturesque small holding with a quiet ambience of birds, sheep and rams in the distance. There was a small private sitting area at the back of the ballroom which led onto a field (with some lively guinea fowl). You can take a stroll around the ponds and sit on an old cartwheel seat at the foot of an ancient tree to take in the view. The farm is in a very peaceful setting, but it is conveniently only a couple of miles from Weddon Cross, where there is a pub that serves decent food and a petrol station with a reasonably stocked shop. We would definately come back again.

    Jessica2016-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • An achingly beautiful setting and a warm spacious but traditional farmhouse. All the amenities for rainy days but located within range of everything to get out and about. Lovely hosts and curious animals surround.

  • Lovely cottage. Comfy beds. Very private. Brilliant views. It was fabulous having an outdoor space and a lovely fireplace. You could enjoy it all throughout the year. Chris and Freya were very welcoming. We were staying there go a nearby wedding, but would love to go back and enjoy the countryside to its full potential.

    Becky2016-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the ballroom cottage was a very nice one. The cottage is an excellent starting point for all the activities in the Exmoor. The place is pretty much isolated, a car is necessary, but the supermarket and two pubs with really good food just a 5 Minutes drive away. Freya and Chris are very nice and friendly hosts, we were expected by Freya and given all the information which is needed. There is a very good manuel and lots of other Information on walks, activities and restaurants, pubs and so on. The cottage is perfectly clean, nice, comfy and very well equipped. Because of a day with very heavy rain we had to stay home and felt really at home at the ballroom, we enjoyed the place a lot!

  • Beautiful scenery and lovely comfortable cottage. Cream tea was a lovely touch and I didn't want to leave!

    Julie2017-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • The cottages at Quarme are so well situated for walking Exmoor and also for going to the beaches. We enjoyed the views of rolling hills and endless fields of cows and sheep. It is so peaceful at the cottage (and dark, take a torch) and on a clear night you can see the stars and planets clearer from one of the numerous car parks on the moor. It's well worth turning out at night for. Take you telescope and enjoy. Our cottage was so clean, but the hosts were more than helpful, if you need anything just ask. Well done to you Katherine and Nick. We loved it and will be back for sure.

    Sylvia2017-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time staying in Katherine's and Nick cottage - you could not wish for a nicer place (despite the rain!). It was a great pleasure to meet them. They helped us enormously for some important things, including great choices of where we should walk. The one drawback of staying in such a marvelous place such kind hosts is that our stay was shorter than we thought it would be - In short, it was too short! If you go and stay with Katherine and Nick as a result of reading our review, then we will be pleased too.

Stable Cottage was once the larger part of the stable block to Yealscombe Farm. It is peacefully situated at the end of a no through road at the head of its own valley surrounded by fields and woodland. Yealscombe is a 20 minute walk (2k) from Exford which is a pretty and unspoilt village with 2 good pubs and a couple of shops. We are centrally located in the National Park and so make a great base from which to explore. Stable cottage is great for larger groups up to 8.
  • Stable cottage is a beautiful cottage. Spacious and spotless yet cosy and warm and very tastefully decorated. It is very well placed for visiting some of the beautiful surrounding arears.Tracy and Simon have thought of everything to make your stay there enjoyable with great success. Tracy gave us lots of information to recommend places to visit And if you're lucky enough to have a welcome chocolate cake it was very yummy-a lovely touch. They are great Hosts and we would definitely recommend you book a stay there you will certainly not be disappointed. We hope to return at some point in the future.

  • Simon and Tracey are genuinely great hosts - warm, welcoming and happy to share their delightful small farm; whilst also providing all the arrangements and facilities to let you enjoy your stay as independently as you want. It is a fantastic area, with a beautiful view, woodland, stream and access to Exmoor's varied delights. The cottage is spotless, recently furnished and offers masses sleeping options for a very reasonable price. We couldn't recommend it more.

Primrose Cottage, a compact cottage for 2, one of 10 Self Catering cottages, situated in Exmoor National Park. Facilities include a shared indoor heated pool, tennis court, garden with BBQ area & games room. Surrounded by our farmland in a private valley. Close to Dunster, Dulverton, Porlock, Minehead as well as being a convenient base to visit local attractions & explore this “forgotten” area of England. Electricity paid by meter reading at end of stay. Please see other cottages on our website.
  • The farm is beautiful and incredibly scenic. The extras such as the pool are a great addition. Ruth is a great host. Very helpful and communicative. The cottage is well equipped and a good size. There are a few small issues. Wifi is non existent. It could do with a proper clean - we found cobwebs and spiders. The shower is barely a dribble and turns cold if you lift it too high. Other than that, the location is wonderful to get into Dunster, Porlock and minehead. It's incredibly peaceful.

    Kandeel2017-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Particular highlights: Triscombe Farm and its surroundings are peaceful and beautiful, each cottage is given a dedicated parking space and the pool is very nice. We stayed in Primrose Cottage which is small and basic but quite comfortable. One thing I would say is that the hot water tank does not hold enough water to run even a quarter of a bath and the bathroom generally could do with updating.

    Jamie2017-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Such a picturesque collection of cottages on an old farm. Loved the games room and the location.

    Patrick2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Primrose Cottage, one of (I believe) ten converted farm outbuildings. We were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our cottage which I have to say was lovely; compact but plenty of room for the two of us. The living room is at one end of the building, the bedroom with double bed and en suite bathroom is in the centre with the well equipped kitchen at the other end. The bathroom has a good sized bath, however it is worth noting that there is no usable shower as such, just a mixer tap and shower head, as the water pressure is quite low due to being fed by a spring. Not a problem though. I note that a previous reviewer commented on the view being of other buildings- I have to say I thought the view was rather pleasant. Yes, some of the cottages are in view, they fit in beautifully with the landscape though, nestled at the foot of the hill and woodland that rise behind them. To the right is the rather pretty and well maintained farmhouse garden. Very rural Devon, and quite charming. Added bonuses are the swimming pool, games rooms and outdoor tennis court. It's well worth a taking a walk round the grounds as the cottages are set in glorious countryside. Triscombe farm is well placed for trips to the North Devon coast, with Minehead, the beautiful Porlock Weir and Lynton/Lynmouth all a short and very scenic drive away. A day rover ticket on the West Somerset Railway is highly recommended; we spent an enjoyable day 'station hopping' and exploring the North Devon coast by steam train. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly be going back to Triscome farm again.

Contempery stable recently converted in to bunkhouse on a beautiful Exmoor hill farm at the centre of all the wildlife. Warm rooms, hot showers, friendly hosts. Relaxing and tranqil valley with amazing views across Exmoor and Devon. Great for cycling and walking, within 3miles of great pubs and beauty spots.
  • This BnB is in a converted section of a functioning farm located right by the Exmoor. The scenic setting is beautiful and the bunkhouse is perfectly located for walkers to use as a base. It has a communal bathroom with cubicles and a shared bedroom with lockers for security. I had the whole place to myself. I drove to the nearby village of North Morton for my supper and had a nice walk on the moors before hand. Carol was very helpful, talking me through local maps and letting me know where to go. I briefly met her husband too as he stopped his tractor to say hello as I arrived.

    Tom2016-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • I loved the bunkhouse, which is very well equipped, with lovely outdoor decked area to lounge in. I found it very hard to find, and there was no signal to call Carol. I found the way by stopping to ask. I would like to go again, for more time in Spring to explore. Fantastic spot at edge of Exmoor.

  • It is a very well equipped and comfortable cottage. Beautiful setting and very central for visiting Exmoor beauty spots. Chris and Freya were very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend it.

  • We stayed in the cottage for a weekend with the family and had an amazing time. The cottage is cosy and the beds are very comfortable. Chris and Freya are great hosts who are easy to communicate with. They even provided a bed and chair for our baby! Well recommended and a great place to stay in the middle of Exmoor park.

  • We had a lovely time at the Shippon. It is a gorgeous place to stay. Chris and Freya were great hosts. Freya recommended a run up on Dunkery Beacon which was only a short drive away. Thank you for having us.

  • Quiet, rustic place. A bit tired and not the most friendly hosts. The great walks make up for it though.

    Ro2016-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend in Exmoor, staying at The Shippon. Chris was relaxed and charming, and his dog was lovely. The location of the property was great for accessing the national park and we ended up walking about 30 miles over the course of the weekend! Chris' property is delightful and it was great to be able to sit in the private garden (with wonderful views) having a glass of wine amongst the ducks and chickens. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed, included an information pack put together by Chris. We definitely recommend the nearby Royal Oak pub in Withypool too! Thank you Chris & Freya for having us.

Welcome to Jasper Cottage, our delightful 'upside down' stone barn conversion with plenty of room for four plus pooch! Located in the glorious surroundings of Exmoor National Park on the Devon/Somerset border, it's just five miles from Dulverton and within easy reach of the coastal towns of Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth. Our lovingly restored cottage is situated on West Hollowcombe Farm with three other character holiday cottages. You have shared access to sixty acres of the owner’s fields and woodlands, part of which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The friendly owners live on site and guarantee a very warm welcome! Mini guests are well looked after with shared use of a well-established adventure playground as well as selection of ride-on toys. The cottage also offers a choice of books and games, as well as useful baby and toddler gear including cots and highchairs.
Our charming Exmoor cottage has upside down living accommodation, with an open plan living space on the first floor to take in the superb views over the open countryside. This spacious wood beamed area has an airy feel and comprises a large sitting area with wood burning stove and a dining kitchen. Downstairs are two well-presented en suite bedrooms with super king beds which can be twins or doubles to suit your party. We can also provide a travel cot, highchair and stairgate if you have a little one in tow, although cot linen is not provided. Outside, your private patio is a delightful spot to sit and relax at any time of day and you have shared use of a well-established adventure playground and lawned garden. Well-behaved dogs, other pets and horses are welcome, the latter being accommodated on a DIY livery basis.
Jasper Cottage is a perfect base for exploring Exmoor, with easy access to its superb footpaths, bridleways and dramatic scenery. Or simply relax amongst magnificent views and wildlife and enjoy the absolute peace and quiet! A wide variety of moorland birds and mammals such as hares and rabbits, stoats and weasels, to say nothing of red deer, are regular visitors. Additionally Exmoor ponies are often to be seen grazing on adjoining common land. The Two Moors Way passes the gate and, for the energetic, numerous other walks are accessible directly from the cottage. A host of other country pursuits within easy reach include watersports, fishing, pony trekking, shooting, bird watching and mountain biking. The owners are very keen on the environment and help to manage the SSSI area of marsh and woodlands in their grounds with the help of Exmoor National Park. The marsh land next to the river, which has not been cultivated for hundreds of years, makes an ideal spot for many rare plants and wildlife, especially the Heath Fritillary, one of the rarest butterflies in this country. The SSSI extends off into the woodlands and the owners are sympathetically managing this to promote its flora and fauna, with rare lichens on some of the older trees and fallen trunks providing great homes for all sorts of creatures. Jasper is an ideal base to explore the North Devon coast and its picturesque villages including Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth.

Ball Cottage has all the character you would expect from a 17th century cottage and the comforts you need today. The sitting room has an open fire and a disused bread oven; upstairs there’s a very old leaded window; and the floors are mainly wood or tile. The cottage has roses climbing up the wall and is set in a large garden. At the back is a beautiful spot where you can sit beside the River Exe near an old packhorse bridge. When the river is low, children have a great time paddling and exploring. The cottage sleeps up to 5 guests in three bedrooms.

  • Staying at Jackie's place was just fantastic! The house is really pretty, more than tidy and very clean. Jackie herself is the perfect host: warm, welcoming and great company. The breakfast was amazing and we got a lot of tips about the area. She also recommended a local pub with delicious food. Unfortunately, we could only stay for one night but we would have loved to have stayed longer. Thank you for making us feel at home! I highly recommend staying at Jackie's beautiful farmhouse - we will definitely come back ourselves!

  • Jackie was very warm and friendly upon our arrival, she made us tea with muffins & jam and a bit of fruitcake. The farmhouse is situated in a wonderful spot. The bedrooms and bathrooms were absolutely lovely and the private living room was brilliant made better with a real log fire. In the morning Jackie laid on a great breakfast including a full english which lasted me all day. She even let the kids pick some eggs from the chickens. Highly recommend, outstanding! We would definitely go back!

  • Couldn't have been better. Jackie and her husband made us feel extremely welcome, everything was so comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic, everything you could wish for was there. We were new to Exmoor and Jackie gave us endless help as to where to go and what pubs to eat at - thankyou! We hope to be back soon!

  • This was our first time using Airbnb and we weren't entirely sure what to expect, so we were all pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Farm! It's setting is beautiful and Jackie couldn't do enough for us, we had a welcoming cup of tea and homemade delicious cake in the garden on arrival. The rooms and bathroom we perfect! We were made to feel incredibly welcome and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be returning when I pass through Exmoor again, if anything for Jackie's wonderful breakfast, and would highly recommend visiting!!

    Charlotte2016-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a blissful stay, Jackie and Michael could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are beautiful, the whole house a testament to Jackie's other job of interior design. There's so much to see and do on Exmoor but you won't need a big pub lunch after one of Jackie's breakfasts - my only problem was managing to stagger up the hills in my over fed state! I hadn't warned my teens that they were going to be sharing bunk beds in case of argument but as it turned out Jackie has changed the bunks to single beds for safety, the girls were happy and loved their pretty room with its beautiful views over the garden to the hills.
