A rural landscape stretches out before you, and beyond it lies the beautiful scenery of Mt Hakusan. From the deck, surrounded by flowers, you can watch the beautiful sunset over the mountains. [House Story] This house was inspired by a childhood dream of living in a Nordic home.It all started with my longing for a cosy cabin like the ones you see in stories, surrounded by the tranquillity of nature. After living in Sweden and New Zealand, I returned to Japan and, together with my husband Andy, took over a cottage that was due to be demolished just one month later. Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.
