Three schist houses being restored at the village of Cunqueiros, in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, form the Casas da Encosta project. Here it’s possible to relive the life history and culture of the region’s people in the comfort of a typical Portuguese village. According to the owner, Nuno Caldeira, the houses are being restored following the local construction tradition where schist, clay and wood are featured. One of them, Casa da Lagariça, has already opened.

It is an old rehabilitated Alentejo mountain, it is isolated, in a landscape of meadow, and olive trees. The village, Barbacena, is about 3 km away. To get to the house there is a road of about 400m of land through which any vehicle can travel, although slowly.
