Kid-friendly holiday rentals in Dumfries and Galloway

I think Rose's place was exactly what we needed on the last night of our roadtrip to the Highlands from London. Perfect place to take off on a detour through the Lake District on our way home. Very quirky, but fun decor inside.

We had a fantastic few days away in this house. there was plenty of space for two families of four and a dog. The enclosed garden and garden furniture were a great addition, especially as the weather was lovely while we were there. Would definitely book again in the future.

Thank you for the most amazing stay at Barnbackle Janice was the most amazing host and couldn't have done anymore to accomodate us. We were in Scotland on holiday and due to a medical emergency we had to stay in the Dumfries area. I found Barnbackle cottage on Airb&b and reached out to Janice. Straight away Janice helped us out with an earlier check in and was keen to help out in any way she could. The cottage was warm, welcoming and a much needed retreat for all of us. There were local shortbreads, milk in the fridge and even fresh flowers in a jug! Lovely, personal touches throughout. You have a wonderful home and are kind, responsive and helpful hosts. Keep doing what you're doing!

We all had an amazing time ! Plenty space for our family of 11 and 3 dogs.

We loved spending Easter weekend in this lovely home. It was well equipped with everything we needed, and we enjoyed both the wood burning stove and the nice sunny terrace after exploring Cockermouth and the Lake District.

We had a great time staying. Carolines house is lovely and had everything we needed for a long weekend. Throughout our stay there was a problem with hot tub which was out of Caroline's hands but she made sure to compensate with a meal on her which was very much appreciated. Lots of lovely little touches and gifts around the house. Would definitely come back and see this place in the warmer weather thanks for having us.

Perfect location for the wedding we went to nearby and house has everything you need, plenty space and was spotless. Haylie was a really good host and very quick yo respond to questions and queries.

Spent a very relaxing 4 day weekend here. The house was gorgeous, big and roomy, and if you like historical houses interest you, it had an abundance of original features which were fantastic to see. Despite how big the house and rooms are, it was very warm and cosy. the master bedroom had a sneaky view of the sea and Ailsa Craig, with bed being very warm & comfortable. the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could need, with a very large back garden if you wanted to spend time outdoors. Hilda was very quick to respond to messages and Alastair had a lot of information about the history of the house and the boat yard, which I found very interesting. They were both very accommodating when traffic meant I didn't get there til almost 10pm on the guest night. This was a really great place to stay and I would love to go back and stay again. Attractive and stylish period property with fresh neutral decor and plenty of space. High ceilings and original features. Location great, at start of one of the main roads out of town, less than 5 mins from train station. Town centre walkable in 10 - 15 mins through an established Victorian residential area around Lovers’ Walk. River / Whitesands area 15 - 20 mins walk. Easy parking for the property on adjacent side streets. Bus route too (Dumfries to Lockerbie). Property is on the ground floor of a 3 storey townhouse, with around 10 steps up to front door. Dumfries town centre and surroundings have lots to offer. Robert Burns’ House and Centre, Gracefield Art Gallery, River Nith and Dock Park, town Museum, small cinema, plus shops including M&S, a large old Dept Store (Barbour’s), and independent shops such as Flourish, for local gifts etc. Plenty of cafés, restaurants and pubs.

This was our second time staying here. The place was clean, very comfortable, and everything was thoughtfully prepared. We had such a relaxing vacation — thank you.

An amazing and character filled property. Exactly as described. Beautiful. Serene and quiet. Lockbox was easy to find and use. Hosts were helpful, kind and thoughtful. Communicated well and were very accommodating. Would love to go again.

It does what he says on the tin, and that's a positive! The kitchen is well-equipped with pretty much whatever you need and is fairly spacious, considering. The same applies to the bedroom and bathroom facilities. As a basement apartment, there is a lack of daylight (obviously), but it's not terrible. The counterbalance is that Sarah is a wonderful host who allowed me to check in earlier than advertised. The check-in process was thorough! The location is perfect if you want to be in the heart of Dumfries, and ample free parking outside and in the surrounding areas. I would happily stay here again if visiting Dumfries for the same reasons as my most recent trip.

What a truly wonderful little place, there is so much to do for the kids and my two really did enjoy it! The apartment was absolutely stunning, spotless and also very spacious. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to book a trip away to the lakes be it with children or without. We will definitely be coming back!

Very handy location as a base for a few days walking the local hills. I didn't have the time to try out some of the amenities such as the sauna. The accommodation was spacious and well presented.

Chantelle's place was perfectly clean, spacious and with everything we could ask for. She has been very responsive and helpful. We would definitely recommend the place to anyone that wants to visit Dumfries and surroundings!

What a fantastic place,really well planned out,everything you need for a fab stay.The apartment was spotlessly clean,nice and warm and ideal location.Sue was a super host from our initial booking to leaving,would have no doubt about returning.

This well-equipped ground-floor apartment looking out onto the sea a few 100 ms away is fairly centrally located in Ayr. Good access to Burns birthplace in Alloway and the amazing Culzean castle along the coast. If you are interested in history, there is much to see in the neighbouring countryside and coastline apart from the town-centre. Alison is a great host and left lots of welcome treats including butter, milk and Scottish goodies! She was quick to respond to our queries and provided lots of useful advice. A wonderful stay in a cosy, clean and comfortable flat with a reasonable time to check out at 11 am! Kids loved access to both Netflix and Disney! Thank you Alison!

Great stay at Raluca's place. Her communication was great from the outset, responding promptly to questions and providing lots of local recommendations. The place was perfect for our stay and the kids had a great time. The swimming pool and play areas were excellent and the toys in the apartment were a real bonus. Would happily stay here again for a family break.

We had a great stay in the apartment as a family of 4. It’s within easy walking distance of the castle, parks and centre and has shops nearby to grab groceries. We were lucky enough to have glorious weather and enjoyed the balcony too. Would definitely stay here again.
