All About Estepona
Estepona is a lovely coastal town with a traditional Andalusian feel on Spain’s Costa del Sol. Along the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town, you’ll find whitewashed houses, tapas bars and restaurants, and a mix of traditional shops and boutiques selling the latest fashions. Beautiful flower pots and hanging baskets line the streets, infusing the city with colour.
What draws most holidaymakers to Estepona is the more than 30 kilometres of coastline and 17 beaches, with a beautiful mountainous backdrop. To the west of the town, in a sheltered cove, is the idyllic El Cristo Beach. With its fine sands and shallow, calm waters, it’s ideal for swimmers of all abilities and is also popular for snorkelling, kayaking, and boating. When you’re ready to refuel, you can head over to one of the chiringuitos (beach bars) for a cold beverage and some tapas. Estepona is less than an hour’s drive from the historic Rock of Gibraltar — the famous limestone rock that rises over 400 metres above the British territory of Gibraltar. You can ride the cable car to the top, where you’ll experience unforgettable views stretching all the way to North Africa.
The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Estepona
Estepona experiences a Mediterranean climate, with warm sunshine nearly all year round, perfect for enjoying your stay in one of the many apartments in Estepona. June to August are the hottest months, so ensure you pack plenty of sunscreen and a hat. In July, the annual Summer Fair (Feria) takes place — a weeklong celebration of dancing, drinking, and eating. The spring and autumn months are possibly the most pleasant times to visit, when you still can expect plenty of warm sunny weather for enjoying the beach.
In early March, Estepona celebrates Carnival — the fiesta of the people — when locals don elaborate costumes and hold a procession in the town with music, dancing, and food. Wintertime is much quieter in Estepona, and although it will be cooler, you can still expect sunshine and mild temperatures.

Beach Promenade
This beautiful promenade stretches nearly 2.5 kilometres along La Rada Beach and is lined with benches under shady trees where you can stop and soak up the views. On a clear day, the rock of Gibraltar is visible from here. The promenade is wheelchair-accessible, and chiringuitos and restaurants along the way offer a range of food and drinks.
Ruta de los Murales Artísticos
Along the Ruta de los Murales Artísticos (the Route of Art Murals), you’ll find a thriving urban street art scene. Painted on the sides of apartment blocks and office buildings, the striking murals are ever-changing, with pieces ranging from comedic and historic to inspirational. The street art is spread across a wide area, so pop into the tourist office in Plaza de Las Flores and grab a map of the locations.
Sierra Bermeja
Just beyond the town is the towering Sierra Bermeja, a mountain range with lots of hiking trails available to those looking for a little outdoor exercise. The 6.5-kilometre Reales de Sierra Bermeja Trail offers stunning views of the coastline, and a chance to spot wildcats, falcons, vultures, or reptiles.
