Places to stay in Antietam
Relax and escape to the peace and quiet by the Potomac river, and wake to beautiful romantic views of the river and mountains, in this romantic 200 square foot tiny house situated on 2.5 acres, 450 feet of river front land. Explore and partake of all the activities on the river and surrounding area, just 1 mile from Shepherdstown. Fish, bike, kayak, tube, or just sit by the river and watch the birds and wild life. Read by the river or in the quiet comfort of the house, w/ some wine on us.
This is a 1940s refurbished fisherman's cabin. It was likely built in or about 1942 as the original electric fixtures are from that date, we had to modernize them though as they don't meet current code. It is very likely that the structure was built to replace an older wooden structure in the same location. There is electricity but no running water, water dispenser is provided. NOTE that the bathroom is a pit outhouse located nearby. On the west side of the 200square foot room, you will find a very comfortable Queen sized bed with CertiPUR foam mattress and lots of pillows. There are several blankets. At the foot is a WWII mail crate restored and converted to a trunk that was found in the tiny house, used to store extra linens and blankets. Above the headboard is a fantastic decorative shelf made from river maple that fell by the river in front of the building. Right in front of the bed is a window affording great views of the river. On the east side of the building is the sitting area with kitchen cabinets. The counter is made from old reclaimed barn door complete with the clasp. The shelves above are from the from of the barn door complete with hinges. Equipped with utensils, a microwave, dorm fridge, and crock water dispenser. A table for two in front of another river facing window. Outside is a small porch with two comfortable chairs and BBQ, that has a commanding view of the river. The cabin and this sitting area are nestled back into the wooded hillside loved by a plethora of songbirds and woodpeckers. To the East of the porch is a small three seasons outdoor shower and sink. The shower is fed by cold water but has a 5.5 gallon solar warming tank attached (long showers will get cold). NOTE that we will be shutting off the outdoor shower before the first frost. NOTE: We have shut off the outdoor Shower on 10/31/2019 as we are getting nights below freezing. Home sits on 2.5 acres adjacent to the Potomac river with C&O national historical park across the river. This section of the river is usually shallow and often can be walked across, near Packhorse Ford. Between the property and Shepherdstown is the historic battlefield of Shepherdstown with walking path and markers. Nestled to the other side of the tiny house is the very clean and comfortable pit toilet (out house). It is in the original location but all rebuilt with modern seat and plenty of privacy, well vented and stocked with hand sanitizer.
The home is a short bike ride or drive to historic downtown Shepherdstown. You will go by some historic ruins and Shepherdstown Battlefield, on the way by Packhorse Ford. Close to NCTC, Antietam, C&O canal and Harpers Ferry.
  • Really nice spot in the back of the woods next to the river. Would stay again

  • Great little getaway spot and place to relax.

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • It was just what I wanted -- simple, small, and peaceful, without being too far away. Good communication and easy check-in. Thanks for sharing this lovely spot.

  • The tiny house was clean and quaint. The location was perfect. Secluded yet could get into town really quick. It was more than I expected! The fire pit was great for the evening and I can’t wait to go back in warmer weather to enjoy the hammock also ! Yocencia was a great host with quick responses!

    Halleigh2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great stay. The space is cozy and Yocencia provides really wonderful touches, like sunscreen, bugspray, and lots of coupons to local shops. We really felt like we had everything we needed! The river is literally right there. We spent the day bird watching, reading, and enjoying the quiet roads. In the evening, we enjoyed a yummy meal in Shepardtown (only 5 minutes down the road!) If you're looking for a restful and cozy getaway in close proximity to a sweet and fun town, this is the place for you! We can't wait to come back.

    Caroline2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful time! The tiny house was exactly what my boyfriend and I needed. A perfect getaway from the everyday business of life. In a remote location with a beautiful view, this tiny house was absolutely a romantic escape! We went in the winter so there was no running water, but there was a makeshift sink and clean pit toilet for us to use. We loved the location, close to both Shepherdstown and not too far from Harpers Ferry. There was WiFi, which was great since my cell phone service was spotty in this part of town. The hosts were responsive and sweet. The house stayed warm and cozy even though the rain, wind, and cold weather outside. We loved the personal touches, such as the beautiful decor above the bed. We even grilled burgers one night despite the cold weather! We look forward to coming back in the warmer weather so that we can enjoy the hammock and fire pit right by the Potomac. A wonderful stay, highly recommended for anyone looking for an outside your typical camping style trip!

  • This is a fantastic place, and great host! Really enjoyed the quiet time away from everything. It's a nice spot to relax and let your mind wander

My home is in a quiet wooded area outside of town. You won’t find sidewalks, streetlights, or manicured lawns here. Instead you will find a natural, woodsy setting, occasional deer in the yard, and a million stars on clear nights.
You are welcome to use the kitchen, reading area, living room, and bathroom, as well as the deck. My house is not new, and everything isn’t perfect, but it’s comfortable and welcoming, and quite colorful.
Ten minutes from Shepherdstown, 15 minutes from Harpers Ferry and Charles Town, 20 minutes from Antietam National Battlefield Park.
  • Very quiet and chill spot close to Harpers Ferry and the surrounding areas! Mary Elise was very responsive and made checking in as simple as possible. This is a great spot for checking out the surrounding historical and natural parks nearby!

    Angel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful stay at Mary’s. It’s in a perfect location between Shepardstown and harpers ferry. Very cozy room in a secluded neighborhood, perfect for a weekend trip

  • Brad and Mary were the most delightful hosts and I will definitely go back there when I come to Harper's Ferry next April (assuming there isn't a reservation already in place for someone else.) Getting there was quite an adventure, on beautiful country roads that just BEGGED for a sports car! Oscar, the tuxedo cat, was the icing on the cake - thanks, Oscar!!! :-) Also, the location was perfect for visiting both Harper's Ferry and Shepherdstown - both were no more than a ten minutes drive. Thank you, Mary and Brad (and Oscar, Pandora, et al.)

    Jane2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Mary was a wonderful host. Communication with her was very clear. The place was very affordable and therefore I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to use the bedroom for a Good night sleep after exploring Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry. It was so nice not to have to spend alot to crash with my 2 dogs. She also gave very good advice on restaurants.

The Little Schoolhouse is a charming, 1800’s home that once served as a one-room schoolhouse and is now on the National Historical Registry. Nestled within feet of Rocky Marsh Run this fully remodeled, quaint one-bedroom, one-bathroom home has all of today’s modern conveniences with the charm of the 1800’s. The home is conveniently located 4 miles from downtown Shepherdstown, half a mile from the Potomac River, 5 miles from the C&O Canal and 8 miles from Antietam National Battlefield.
This home is private, cozy and very tranquil. You can open the windows and listen to the water flowing by. Rocky Marsh run is a large spring fed stream that is stocked with trout in late winter and early spring. With a full renovation one year ago the home now boast the original (refinished) hardwood floors and tongue and groove wood ceilings, luxury shower and new HVAC.
  • Probably the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in. Private, quaint, well furnished, etc etc .... would highly recommend.

  • This place was so unique and beautiful!! Brian has done a beautiful remodel and left the original floors and other touches which make it so special. The sound of the creek is very peaceful. Brian gave us good recommendations for places to eat etc. definitely recommend staying here! We will be back!!

    Elizabeth2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little place to stay. We were sitting on the front porch and had some neighboring chickens come say hello. The stream is really calming. There are neighbors close by but we did not see anyone. Just cows and chickens.

    Brandy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This stay is 10/10, no flaws, many positives. 100% recommend.

    Mark2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect relaxing country setting. The creek next to the house is beautiful also.

    Karen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Little School House is a cozy, comfortable space for a couple with pleasant surroundings. It’s a melding of the historic and rustic with the modern. The bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is spacious and modern, the kitchen has everything you need, and the small living room area is cozy. There’s a good tv, with various streaming options, good WiFi, and an Alexa speaker. We loved the creek outside, with its cascading rapids, and the front porch to sit on, even in February. It’s on a mainly quiet road in a rural hamlet with friendly neighbors who shared some of the history with us. People were out fishing nearby (but not on the property). You can walk a little ways down the creek, or about a mile down a little road to the Potomac River.

    Paul2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely worth the stay - I loved it! Also, the bathroom is amazing!

    Nicole2020-02-19T00:00:00Z

  • 2nd time staying wirh Corinne and much like the first time, it was great! Thank you for everything!

    Jason2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Corinne is super sweet and very responsive. Her apartment is comfortable, clean and in a fantastic location. Plus, it features an adorable cat! The only tricky part about downtown Shepherdstown is parking because there are meters everywhere, but Corinne had helpful suggestions of how to make it easier.

    Alissa2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The place is awesome right in the middle of Shepard's town. We were able to get to Harper's ferry in like 20 min too. Our room was great and KitKat the cat is so cute!

    Victor2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

Relax and escape to the peace and quiet by the Potomac river, and wake to beautiful romantic views of the river and mountains, in this Historic house on 2.5 acres, 450 feet of river front land. Explore and partake of all the activities on the river and surrounding area. Fish, bike, kayak, tube, or sit by the river, watch the birds and wild life, just 1 mile from Shepherdstown. Read by the river or comfort of the house, or listen to music from Amazon Alexa, w/ a bottle of wine, Elope or renew.
This historic home has a cozy modern addition with kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom, that matches well with the historic stone travelers Inn, right in the Shepherdstown suburbs. Outside there is a large lawn backed to a wooded hill loved by birds and wild life. Just 200 feet to the river with 450 feet of river front, across the lightly traveled river road. A large fire pit and plenty of log seating overlooking the river. Sit quietly for a bit and you might catch a glimpse of river otters, deer, fox and many other wild life coming to the river. Across the river is the C&O national historic park and tow path hiking trail. This section of the river is usually shallow and often can be walked across, near Packhorse Ford. Between the property and Shepherdstown is the historic battlefield of Shepherdstown with walking path with markers. The master bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed with CertiPUR foam mattress, with extra pillows. There is a walk in closet and full on suite bath. The large windows overlook the river and feature curtains and blinds so you can sleep in. Walk out to the balcony deck for even better views. Also upstairs in the old stone walled side is a large room with comfortable chairs and couch. The couch pulls out for additional sleeping on a comfortable Queen sized mattress. A desk with lots of lighting is a great place to do any work or emails and book case stocked with games and books to trade. The room is well lit and comfy for reading or board games. We have added a TV and DVD player with lots of family movies (but no TV service), for rainy days. Living room on the main floor of the stone house is equally large with overstuffed couch and love seat as well as rocking chair. You can really see the construction of the historic home in this room with exposed rough hewn beams and deep window wells. Amazon Alexa is here to help you with music, games, and information as well as turning on/off the lights ( remote switch as well by the door). This room was most likely the kitchen with the originally large cooking fireplace, now non-functional, but still striking. The Kitchen is bright with recessed LED lighting and under counter lights, a large modern table so groups can chat over meals and plan the daily events, while watching the river from the large window. Fully equipped with utensils, oven, microwave, and coffee maker. Off the kitchen you will find a powder room and full laundry.
The home is a short bike ride, walk, or drive to historic downtown Shepherdstown. You will go by some historic ruins and Shepherdstown Battlefield, on the way by Packhorse Ford. Close to NCTC, Antietam, C&O canal and Harpers Ferry.
  • What a beautiful property! Super cute, very clean and just an amazing place to get away!

    Amanda2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • I took my sons (11 and 7) here for a boys' night while my wife was on a volunteer trip. We had a fantastic time. The house was clean and cozy--perfect for a rainy night--and the boys and I were really intrigued by the historical aspect. Even in the early March weather, the scenery was beautiful, and we couldn't resist taking a walk along the river and visiting the local historical sites. We capped off the visit with a great breakfast at Betty's Restaurant in Sheperdstown. Check-in and check-out were a breeze, and the hosts were communicative. We'll definitely try to come back for a weekend away.

    Nolan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place! Perfect for a weekend away or a longer stay. Very clean, well stocked, and feels very safe.

    Ellie2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The wifi did not stream videos and made it very difficult to video chat which is how I do a lot of my work. Other than that everything else was close to perfect.

    Connie2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful stay we had at the cozy stone house!! My husband and I spent the weekend snuggled up on the couches and explored all the little ins and outs of the home. So much thought went into making sure the guests have everything. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need - utensils, dishes, condiments. The bed was so comfortable and cozy with a hugeee closet in the bedroom! And the bathroom was fully stocked too! You have to visit nearby shephardstown. Its the cutest little town with great stores and even better coffee! It was a little chilly out but the view was peaceful and serene and we enjoyed spending time overlooking the potomac river. Highly recommend this perfect little house for your next getaway!!

    Mushka2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Stone House is even cozier than the pictures. Yocencia has done an awesome job making this place welcoming. Being right on the river is really incredible and peaceful. Downtown Shepherdstown is quirky and quite lovely. Really glad we found this gem.

    Alex & Erin2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place was everything described and more! The town itself was very great to explore but even on our rainy Saturday we enjoyed cuddling up in this super cozy home. Yocencia was also super quick to respond and was very helpful before and during our stay. Thanks so much!

    Lily2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • An adorable house that is hugely popular with visitors. It has the sweetest decor but the best part is the outstanding views of the river and the surrounding areas. The town nearby is filled with history and lots of options to eat at. Checkin and checkout was a breeze and our stay was so relaxing we didn’t want to leave.

  • This was our third stay; it’s become our go-to spot when we want a quick getaway from DC. It is on a quiet street and is a short drive to Harpers Ferry. We enjoy taking our dog to the trails and then enjoying some craft beer at Harpers Ferry Brewing — a great dog-friendly brewery with beautiful, panoramic views. Highly recommend!

  • Quaint and perfect for anyone not planning to spend tons of time at the AirBNB. It was clean, had all the amenities for coffee and washing up. It was exactly what I needed, a place to relax after a long day out.

    Ellie2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second time staying at Nancy’s & we loved it as much as the first time. Check in was quick and easy, the apartment was sparkling clean, and there were a ton of personal touches and local tips. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. It’s the perfect spot for a getaway!

    Joanne2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second time this year staying at Nancy's place. It was a clean, welcoming and quiet. She was kind enough to allow my father and I to both bring our dogs. It was such a nice location to reach a lot of little towns and explore Antietam. We love the feeling of stepping back in time in Burkittsville. Getting the key is super easy with the lock box on the door. The extra cot that she put in the room was a full size bed and incredibly comfortable. Way more than I was expecting! There are towels for the dogs. Lots of suggestions for things to do around town. And tons of little touches that just make it feel like home. Nancy left us extra bottled water since there was something going on with the plumbing which we never even noticed. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

    Amanda2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was a perfect place to stay while in town for a wedding- quiet and very clean. There were so many amenities and thoughtful touches- we felt very well taken care of!

    Becca2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing apartment and stay. Nancy’s place is the cleanest airbnb we ever stayed at. It’s so warm and inviting, very thoughtfully and stylishly decorated. We felt at home with the comfortable bed, comfortable, the very soft and high quality extra towels and all the basics available for a convenient stay. The place was quiet. We appreciated the simple check in and check out. Nancy is a fantastic host and extra points for accommodating our well behaved dog.

1940s cedar-shingled WV cabin with midcentury modern furnishings in peaceful wooded setting. Loft bedroom. Kitchenette. Waffle station. Fire pit & grill. Front porch with rockers. Outdoor patio dining area. River access 0.1 mi for kayaking, canoeing or swimming. Convenient to Shepherdstown & Harpers Ferry. Recently remodeled bathroom with tiled walk-in shower, barn door, vessel sink and heated floor. Echo Dot + CD player & CD library. Check Insta @harpersferryglamping for more pics.
Let's go glamping! Charming 1940s cabin updated inside with stylish mix of midcentury modern / vintage camp. It's a perfect spot for couples to spend a romantic retreat (anniversary or honeymoon, for sure!), small families of 4, and for solo travelers to enjoy a relaxing getaway from the city. The cabin is located on a paved road, and it is an easy 10 minute drive along the Potomac River to all the fine dining and shopping of Shepherdstown. Being at the cabin feels like instant vacay. Drop your bags and head to the rocking chairs on the front porch or shady stone patio. Great place to unwind. Stocked with books, vintage Scrabble and jigsaw puzzles. Gorgeous setting to enjoy Fall foliage. The large bathroom includes tiled walk-in shower, heated tile floor, vessel sink and reclaimed wood accents. New toilet installed August 2019. Premium linens and toiletries included. Highlight review from a recent guest: “This was perfect. It looks kind of silly that I checked all 5 stars for every rating ... but this entire experience truly was a 5-star experience! The photos on the website are 100% accurate. The place was spotless. There was nothing we needed. Everything about it was super comfortable and relaxing. Our favorite "touches" were the rocking chairs on the front porch, the awesome shower, the Echo Dot, the coffee decanter, and I could just go on and on..." - Dave, June 24, 2019 Kitchen includes microwave, convection toaster oven, blender, and mini-frig. Complete coffee and tea station (including whole beans from Rations Cafe in Harpers Ferry), grinder, Chemex and electric kettle. Also coffee maker. Waffle station too. Please note there is NO STOVE OR OVEN-- take advantage of the many fine dining options in Shepherdstown. Charcoal grill and campstyle gas stove outside on the patio Ikea queen bed and fresh linens on main floor. Sleep loft with 2 twin beds is reached by steep stairs. Children are welcome but not advisable for toddlers as steep stairs are open and difficult to gate. This is a rural area, so cell phone service is spotty. No TV. Bring your tablet/laptop; high speed wireless internet is fast enough to stream music or video. AC unit in loft and ceiling fan for warm season. Heating unit in loft, portable radiator on main floor and heated bathroom floor for winter stays.
Enjoy a scenic 10 minute drive along the Potomac River to the fine dining and shopping in quaint Shepherdstown. Easy 20 minute drive to historic attractions and river activities in Harpers Ferry. Hike or bike the C&O Canal Towpath. Canoe, kayak or go tubing on the Potomac River (we'll provide river access instructions at the cabin). Check the Shepherdstown Visitor Center website for details about all the great things going on in our town. We love our CATF theatre guests! The cabin is on nearly 3 acres of woodland but does sit next to a road that serves a few residents of the nearby riverfront property. You may hear cars driving by, as well as their 4-wheel ATVs which can sound louder and faster.
  • Fantastic location and incredibly well-appointed. Full of so many fun activities - games, puzzles, a great CD collection, reading materials. Not to mention a cute downtown, and beautiful scenery. One word of caution to taller guests that the bedroom loft has a bit of a low ceiling. Everything else was perfect!!

Leeland , at 5011 Kearneysville Pike, adjoins Shepherdstown, the oldest town in West Virginia, full of the arts, restaurants, parks and civil war sites. You’ll love the small rental house's outdoor space, gardens, cozy historic charm and recent remodeling with HVAC, full kitchen and bath. You are in the country, yet only a stone's throw to downtown Shepherdstown. A romantic retreat for couples, it also could accommodate a young child or two.
The Lee family's 800 sq. ft law office was converted to a dwelling in 1864, and completely remodeled in 2015 for airbnb. It retains its historic charm, with narrow stairs, sloping ceilings upstairs, and low headroom in a couple of places. Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen and living room with dining table, day bed, armchairs, TV. Upstairs is the full bath and bedroom with queen bed, armchairs, and work table. It sits 900 feet back from the road, amidst 12.5 acres of farmland and gardens. The rental is an entire little house with excellent privacy and separation from the adjacent main house, begun in 1866.
Leeland is an estate set in farmland, right on the edge of historic Shepherdstown. You have the best of both worlds: a quiet, charming dwelling surrounded by gardens, within walking distance of Shepherdstown's restaurants, shops, music and theater. The Potomac river and C&O canal are barely a mile away, and a little further afield are Sharpsburg/Antietam national park (4 miles); Harper's Ferry national park (10 miles), and other historic sites and lovely countryside.
  • I had a wonderful stay at Meg’s place. As you drive up you really feel you’re in the country but actually you’re just at the edge of the center of Shepherdstown. In about 10 minutes walking you could be anywhere you want to be, so a couple could manage with one car if one wanted to stay and read/relax in the house and the other wanted to go shopping along the main street in town. The kitchen contains a few bare essentials that may come in handy if you plan to cook and eat there. There are ample white towels to use and the bathroom is warm and bright. You can adjust the heating as you like. The bedroom upstairs is particularly comfortable and period perfect.

  • Leeland was super cozy and quiet. Just what we wanted as a retreat space.

    Carla2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful historic property close to town. We will be back!

    John2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Meg's guest apartment offers a wonderful way to stay in a historic home and be within walking distance to a charming, old-timey town. The home felt more spacious than I had expected. Wifi was strong, water pressure was good, and check-in/out was super easy. Thank you for a great stay.

    Carly2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house on beautiful land, I highly recommend making a reservation to anyone looking to get away for the weekend.

    Vasilios2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The property is close to the main street of Shepherdstown, which was very convenient. The house sits back from the highway so it was quiet. Inside, it was neat to think of the families that had lived in the house over 100 years ago. Go for it!

    Timothy2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Have stayed at Leeland many times always a pleasure to stay here and be in such close proximity to adorable Shepherdstown.

    Kirstie2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is our third year at Meg's place and it somehow gets more charming every year. Such a great location to walk everywhere in town, excellent host, and everything we need for the weekend. Thank you!

A large ground floor room with its own exterior exit and a half bath adjacent to the room. There is also a private full bath upstairs and plenty of deck space to relax outside and take in all the beauty. My house is located 3 miles from the Antietam Battlefield and 3 miles from historic Boonsboro MD. Harpers Ferry WV and Shepherdstown WV are just a short drive away. In addition my house borders the little Antietam creek with beautiful scenery and immense history everywhere.
A very small town with a beautiful relaxed feel. A great deal of history surrounds the area with many unique dining, shopping and activity options. Guest room will include a welcome packet with local restaurants, shops, etc.
  • Adam’s place was super convenient and easy ! Adam is an amazing communicator , and very thoughtful in preparing the place and in his responses which is always appreciated ! Thank you !

  • If you're looking for a quiet getaway in a scenic area, look no further than Adam's AirBNB. My girlfriend and I were looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Baltimore for a weekend and were very pleased. Adam's stone house is in a quiet neighborhood near tons of lovely places, and he has cordoned off half the house for his AirBNB guests, giving you full privacy. Your results may vary, but we never saw Adam during our trip, and that was fine with us. His cat Smokey is also very affectionate and lovely. Upon leaving our room and entering the living room where the fridge is, we did smell a faint smell like pipe smoke or something else. In another review Adam mentioned that no one in the house smokes: it may just be a smell of the house. Like I said, it was very faint and only encountered for a moment in the hallway. Bathrooms were clean and tidy, fridge was well stocked and encouraged to be used, room was nice, set, and crucially warm since we stayed in February. Overall an excellent AirBNB experience, and one we can highly recommend!

  • Adam has a wonderful historical home with the perfect location for our trip to the battlefields. The space was welcoming and had lots of extra touches. Would definitely stay again! Thanks

  • Adam is a great host! Perfect location for anyone interested in touring Antietam Battlefield or even Harper’s Ferry, WV. His friendly loving cat Smokey was an added bonus. Will definitely return if in the area again.

  • The space is awesome and had all the amenities of a hotel, but with the feel of a home you’ve been generously granted access to. One of the friendliest cats I’ve ever met was just hanging around ready to hang whenever. Lovely creek right behind the property. Would come back for sure!

Immerse yourself in history as our guest at the National Register listed Stone House Mansion (1757). Home to Revolutionary War, French and Indian War, and War of 1812 officers, statesmen, and Congressmen. Close to Historic Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, & Antietam National Battlefield. The apartment has everything you will need for a comfortable stay. The basement level apartment is ideal for couples, families, solo adventurers, and business travelers (available for extended stay).
The apartment in the basement level has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a single bed with an electric fireplace, living room with big colonial fireplace (non-functioning) and a TV and a dining table, bathroom with claw-foot tub/shower, and a kitchen with all amenities and washer and dryer and dishwasher. Historically, the living room in the basement level was a kitchen where the large fireplace was used for cooking. The queen bedroom is air-conditioned in the summer. The rest of the basement apartment is not air-conditioned but stays fairly cool in the summer. Next to Bedroom 2 is a dressing room/storage room that also has a sitting area and a double sofa bed for occasional company. This house is steeped in American history. The following is condensed from the National Register of Historic Places listing: The Stone House Mansion was constructed in 1757. It is one of the oldest stone structures in Berkeley County. The Stone House Mansion is significant for its association with the Hite vs. Fairfax lawsuit, which revolved around the question of whether colonial government or English government had the authority to grant land. The suit is significant in the interpretation of the arguments and as a precursor of the concepts and concerns that eventually led to the Revolution. It was for these very beliefs that the colonies rebelled. The stone house is mentioned in the suit and is included in a survey conducted as part of the evidence. Stone House Mansion is significant for its association with Captain John Strode, who constructed Stone House Mansion. Captain John Strode fought with the Continental Army and was the founder of Strode’s Station in Kentucky. Stone House Mansion is significant for its association with General Adam Stephen, who founded the city of Martinsburg. Stephen was second-in-command to George Washington in the French and Indian War and fought under George Washington in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War with the rank of Major General. After the war, he served as a delegate to the 1788 Virginia Convention and spoke persuasively in favor of adopting the U.S. Constitution. Stephen purchased Stone House Mansion from Captain John Strode in September 1789. The land was to be inherited by his daughter, Ann Stephen. Ann Stephen was married twice. Her first marriage in 1779 was to Captain Alexander Spotswood Dandridge, who was second cousin to Martha Washington and grandson of Virginia Governor Alexander Spotswood. Captain Dandridge served as an Aide-de-Camp on the staff of General George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Captain Alexander Spotswood Dandridge died in 1785. He and Ann had one son, Adam Stephen Dandridge. Ann’s second marriage in 1787 was to Major Moses Hunter, Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Virginia House of Delegates. Stone House Mansion was inherited by Major Moses Hunter’s son, Lieutenant David Hunter, who was killed at the battle of Williamsburg on the St. Lawrence River in the War of 1812. Stone House Mansion was then inherited by the granddaughter of General Adam Stephen, Anne Hunter. Anne Hunter married Captain Henry St. George Tucker, who fought in the War of 1812 and was a U.S. Congressman, a member of the Virginia Senate, lawyer, judge, and law professor at the University of Virginia. Tucker County, West Virginia was named for Henry St. George Tucker. Stone House Mansion is significant for its association with James Monroe VanMetre and his son Isaac David Sylvester VanMetre, both prominent businessmen and farmers from a very prominent early settlement family in the Shenandoah Valley.
This quiet area is part of what was once a large historic farm, but now only 10 acres of it remain. Stone House Mansion is within a 30-minute drive to historic destinations in Harpers Ferry, WV, Winchester, VA, and Sharpsburg, MD. Visit the nearby Charles Town Racetrack and Casino. Also within a 30-minute drive visitors can enjoy outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, and biking or hiking the C&O Canal and Appalachian Trail. It is convenient to the highway. The bike path between Charles Town and Martinsburg West Virginia borders the property. The State has placed a historical marker about Stone House Mansion on the bike path! The Coast Guard facility, IRS Computing Center, and V.A. Medical Center are within a mile from here. A convenience store and gas station is a half-mile from the house.
  • We loved staying in this old home! We stayed in the basement apartment which is very spacious. The owners were always available, however we never really had any issues that needed addressed. Would definitely stay again if in this area.

  • This place is wonderful! Lots of historical charm and furnished with all kinds of beautiful antiques . It was such a quiet and cozy place to spend the week. The place is completely stock with everything you need and lots of extras! The beds are extremely comfortable. It is minutes off the highway and close to restaurants as shopping but it feels like your in the country . Barbara was extremely nice and easy to work with. We had a change of plans and did not check in till the next evening and she was so gracious in accommodating us. I would highly recommend staying here!

  • An incredible place to spend a few nights - a historic site itself, it is a great spot to base yourself to visit Harper's Ferry, Charles Town, Berkeley Springs, or Winchester, VA. Donald and Barbara are the consummate hosts - providing you with a pamphlet of info on the home when you arrive, and ensuring the kitchen has just about everything you could need to prepare a meal should that be in your plans. Would not hesitate to book another stay here.

We offer a guest suite on the lower level of our house, with private entry, 10 minutes from historic Frederick. The suite's access is from a terrace, overlooking a wooded hillside, with a fire pit, grill, table & chairs. The suite has a bedroom, bath, laundry, and a family room with a fireplace. The suite includes a mini-fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, and dining area. Nearby attractions include several state parks, the Appalachian Trail, and wineries in the Middletown valley.
The suite is located in a ground floor walkout, with full west-facing windows, and a private entrance, below the main level of the house. We live on the upper level with separate access. The guest suite has its own climate control. You'll enjoy our terrace and fire pit, hammock, grill, and seating for a small group with a view of the sunsets over South Mountain. The laundry provides washer and dryer and a commercial kitchen sink for our guests' use. Our property is about an acre and the yard areas are bounded by woods on three sides. Our landscaping is generally rustic, but in the spring you might be lucky enough to share in the blooming of the azaleas, snowdrops, or bluebells! For our summer guests, we provide several fans. Although we do not have air conditioning in the guest suite, it is very rarely necessary in our location on Braddock Mountain. Please note that for health and environmental reasons we do not use pesticides within or outside of the house. We are happy to provide citronella candles for use on the terraces and citronella bug spray.
We live in a semi-rural residential area about 10 minutes drive from downtown Frederick and less than 5 minutes from Interstate 70. Our county road has no sidewalks, but has wide enough shoulders for strolling. In addition to historic Frederick, nearby attractions include four state parks within a 20-25 minute drive, plus the Appalachian Trail, Harper's Ferry, the C&O Canal, Antietam, etc. We provide a detailed guide for our guests of recommended restaurants and places to visit in the area.
  • Mary Margaret was very helpful and responded to questions within minutes. She took the time to give us tips on the area and was very friendly. We felt well attended to, but also felt like we had plenty of privacy and space. The location is quiet but within a few minutes drive to the heart of Frederick with plenty of restaurants and amenities very nearby. The guest suite is cozy and filled with books, board games, and other comforts that made it feel relaxing and inviting. We would definitely return again!

  • Alex’s place was a dream! I’m sad we only had one night to spend here. If you love plants and great vintage finds, you’ll love this place! The details and thoughtful touches were great, and I indulged in the jacuzzi tub after a long hike. At this price, it’s a total steal. On top of it all, hosts were really responsive and accessible- offered lots of great suggestions for date nights and food! Can’t wait to come back again :)

Their kitchen had everything you would need including a very nice espresso machine. We had never been to HF before and she was so helpful giving us tips for local wineries, shops, and hikes. • Beautiful, beautiful cabin, with a breathtaking view. Tastefully furnished, cozy and very clean. John was an extremely gracious host and was very well versed on all there is to do in the area, no matter what your fancy. A truly jaw dropping experience.

  • Highly recommended! John was a great host! The location was great as a getaway spot. Large bedroom and bath. It was very quiet up in the mountains. Would recommend for anyone looking for a great motorcycle getaway as well!

    Pete2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed in John's beautiful home 2 nights. We were hiking on the Appalachian Trail. So many wonderful aspects of our stay--John and his warm hospitality, his knowledge of the area and many other things, the bedroom space is large and spotless clean, the bed is comfy, house is quiet. We so enjoyed the egg breakfast, a surprise. Liked having a refridgerator in the room and a sitting area. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

    Cindy2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place to stay! John was attentive to details. His home was very clean and relaxing. We enjoyed the atmosphere and were able to see the sunrise from our room. John provided tips on local places to visit and was knowledge about the area. Great experience! Will visit again if we return to the area.

    Colton+Brienna2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location to stay. John provides us with a peaceful evening by the fire, a beautiful place to stay, and even made breakfast then we were off to the local wineries. Would definitely stay again!

    Kastille2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a magnificent home! John is so welcoming and genuinely enjoys sharing his home. And, even though it was a cold morning in February, it was so nice to enjoy my coffee on his back porch taking in the panoramic view and soaking up the warm sunshine. I didn't expect John to make us scrambled eggs (from his own chickens) and toast. We had a great breakfast and fun conversationwith John. It was hard to leave! Oh, and we loved Lilly, the dog and Buster, the cat.

    Victoria2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • John was an amazing host. His place is beautiful and the views are outstanding. He is proud of his chickens and he made me a great breakfast with his eggs from the chickens. I could of chatted with him all day. This a definite must stay if your visiting the area.

    Kim2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at John’s place was like visiting a friend. Outstanding hospitality and stunning views from the cabin made this trip a memorable experience. Bookmarked for future trips!

Our guests agree: this clean, cozy cottage is their best airbnb experience. Private, wooded setting. New paint color. You like? We love the cabin in the woods vibe! Special covid19 statement: We are closed for March and April to conform with best practice on self-quarantine. Please support local business and book your next stay today. See you on the other side!
Welcome to the Cottage at Rockymarsh – a clean and comfy cottage convenient to all the many attractions in the area. Our recent guests have all regretted having to leave after just two days. Won't you consider staying an extra night? Once an authentic West Virginia pole barn, the cottage was originally renovated as an art studio. We updated it in a bright and breezy cottage style, using a mix of clean contemporary with vintage family pieces. Guests especially appreciate the sunny wall of windows in the living area and the treetop view from the vintage half round window salvaged from an old one room schoolhouse. The cottage is on ten wooded acres with a stream. We share the property with deer, foxes, great blue herons, and many turkeys. We put on quite a firefly show in the summer. Sleep with the windows open and listen to the owls, hawks and song birds. Our goal is to make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive. Stocked with breakfast basics and smores ingredients - no need to stop for groceries on your way in. The cottage is filled with all the comforts of home. Completely equipped, remodeled cook's kitchen with fully stocked waffle and coffee stations. Curl up with cozy throws, magazines, puzzles and games. Use the high-speed wireless to stream TV and music. Nap in the hammock all afternoon, play vintage croquet and gather around the firepit area for s’mores at night. Enjoy the outdoor seating scattered around the property, including picnic tables, Adirondack chairs by the stream and covered patio dining. There is something for everyone in our area. Shepherdstown is filled with quaint shops, fine dining, live music and outdoor activities. The C&O canal towpath is right across the Potomac river - great for hiking or cycling. We are also close to Harpers Ferry, which offers historic sites, river sports and hiking. The view from Maryland Heights was described by Thomas Jefferson as worth the trip across the Atlantic! Antietam is just across the river from us. Tourists may also take the local MARC train into Washington for a day trip. The cottage is perfect for all guests. We’ve hosted honeymoons, girls weeks out, romantic weekends, writer’s retreats and family gatherings. Come see why guests call this their best Airbnb experience!
Check out my airbnb collection on Yelp for can't-miss restaurants and attractions in the area. https://www.yelp.com/collection/pZQQXibAbg9oFbsGjDgwBA Close to Shepherd University, NCTC, Antietam and Harpers Ferry. On 10 wooded acres - and a stream runs through it! Guests have enjoyed biking on the C&O Canal Towpath, exploring Antietam National Battlefield and historic Harpers Ferry. Fully equipped kitchen, but minutes away from the fabulous restaurants in Shepherdstown. We love our CATF guests!
  • The cottage was AMAZING! My wife and I just had a getaway for her 30th birthday. We spent the majority of the time playing games and watching movies. The fire pit with s’mores was also fun. Highly recommend Ginger’s cottage as a place to stay.

    Tanner2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our first stay at Ginger’s place was a perfect 5, this time it was 5+. The place is extremely clean and has every amenity a family needs. The location is great because it is a quick 10 minute drive to town but far enough to enjoy the peace and quite of nature. Really nice creek runs a long back side of property and is another activity to keep everyone entertained and outdoors.

    Oscar2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ginger is a great host. Amazing place, relaxing and great amenities. We plan on coming back. We're thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    John2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ginger’s cottage is better than advertised. Incredibly clean and well-organized. Well-appointed with all of the comforts of home. All you need is a few food items and the clothes on your back — Ginger takes care of the rest. Looking forward to a future return, perhaps when it’s a tad bit warmer.

    Andy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • THE place for a weekend getaway. The cottage is pristine and a perfect balance of lovely & functional. We slept very comfortably on the bed. We enjoyed strolls in the woods and seeing the neighbor’s cows along the fence. As big coffee drinkers, we brought along our gooseneck kettle and Chemex and were delighted to discover that Ginger already had the same ones! Looking forward to a return visit.

    Betty2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at the cottage and we love it! We look forward to staying and to see what changes Ginger has made. Thanks for all the special touches that make it our home away from home.

    Joshua2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Will definitely come back, stay and host was very nice and peaceful.

    Richard2020-02-15T00:00:00Z

Thanks for checking out the bus. It has been a joy to meet so many nice people since we listed it on Airbnb. The bus is just a short walk from our house where you can use the bathroom and kitchen if you need. Thanks again!
It's a 1997 school bus, not too long, not too short. There is a sofa, table, woodstove and full bed. There is ambient light and electricity on the bus as well as several candles. It has a wood floor and wood wall siding. It's in a private area of my yard and in the warmer weather there is a deck attached to the bus for relaxing. Aside from the bus, my bathroom is shared and my kitchen can be used also if requested. It depends on what the guest seems to prefer. I have had dinner with guests and taken them on tours of the area, picked them up from the train, given rides, etc. Many guest prefer to just have some privacy in the country and I respect that totally. I also work a lot which can hinder my availabilityon certain days. I live on a country road and my neighbors are like family.
I live on a country road and my neighbors are like family.
  • It was a great place to stay! It was like glamping taken to the next level! The bus was accommodating, all you need to do is bring a cooler and you can make whatever you need with the fireplace or grill! Their house is right next to the bus so if you need to take a shower or the restroom, it's a few steps away! Will and Sabrina were very nice and helpful! Their dogs were extremely friendly and my dog enjoyed theirs. Definitely going to go again!

    Megan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend staying in the bus enough. It is so cozy and quaint. It was very clean and Will did a great job making us feel welcome. A lot of people may stay here for access to Haper's Ferry, but take the time and visit Sheperdstown. Great restaurants and fun places to grab a drink. Great downtown to stroll around. I would definitely stay here again if I was visiting the area.

    Tyler2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great experience! Will and Sabrina were warm, welcoming hosts who made us feel right at home. The bus was comfortable even for a February stay thanks to the wood stove and plenty of blankets provided. Its in a great location with downtown Sheperdstown just a few minutes away and Harpers Ferry just a bit farther. Cannot recommend the bus highly enough.

    Paige2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Will’s place was amazing! I would highly recommend living in a Skoolie for a couple of days to anyone. Will and Sabrina were so kind. Reading Will’s book while on the skoolie made the experience feel even more surreal because you saw all his hard work pay off. Again thank you Will, Owen and I loved your place!

    Illiana2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • The bus was a perfect spot to relax and experience semi rustic living. From the indoor fireplace to the chickens to the great hospitality, everything was perfect! I recommend this stay for anyone looking to get a cool, hippie-country style adventure in. Very cool spot!

    Nicole2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Such a fun stay!! The perfect weekend getaway to relax in such a unique space. We hope to be back again soon!

    Rachael2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy is the perfect word! It’s clean, quiet, and a great option if you’re in the area. So glad I didn’t choose to stay in a traditional hotel or AirBnB. The Bus is a must!!!

    Taylor2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Will and Sabrina were absolutely lovely. The bus, despite our visit to it in January, was warm when we arrived. The space is creative and unique, and located in a quite corner of the nearby quaint town of Shepherdstown. The woodburning stove warmed us on the night it rained, and the entire stay was magical. We definitely hope to come back to this place that now means so very much to us!

Glamping in Harpers Ferry! Elevated 8' x 16' cabin in a lush garden property surrounded by trees. Full bathroom w/rain showerhead. King bed can be converted to 2 twins if requested. 1940s vintage decor. Minifridge, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, elec kettle, minigriddle. Opens to an 8' x 16' screened porch w/ceiling fan, comfy seating, kitchen table & sink. Private spot yet in walking distance to all the great HF activities & dinner restaurants. Indoor/outdoor living & in-town convenience.
The tiny house is inspired by 1940s Park Service cabins but with modern comforts and amenities, a rain showerhead, a brand new Allswell bed, full insulation with air conditioning (and heating for the cooler months). The tiny cabin is new construction, built on the same property as our B&B (note our other listings on Airbnb). A garage sits between the tiny cabin and the main house on one side. There are trees/gardens on the other three sides. Beyond the trees are other neighborhood homes and a narrow, quiet street on one side. During this period of COVID-19 concern, guests will be given self-entry instructions. The cabin is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between guest stays. You will not need to interact in person with either the hosts or any other guests. Wifi and Echo Dot. A small TV monitor is available with an HDMI cable if you want to hook up your own streaming device. Note that, it being a tiny cabin, we had room for only a 40-gallon water heater. If there are two of you staying, you may want to take quicker showers or allow a little time between showers so that the second person gets enough hot water. We permit a third guest, including children, but please remember that this is a tiny cabin, and the sleeping configuration is one king or two twins. There is also a cot and sleeping bag on the screened porch that could be used on warmer nights. Parking spaces are located in front of the main house. You will then need to walk around the house to the back of the property to access the tiny cabin. A barndoor style gate just next to the tiny cabin exits to a side street. It's convenient for access when walking or bicycling, but no parking is available near this gate. We accept government rates! Please inquire if you are in town on government business.
The tiny cabin is located in a quiet neighborhood in the Upper Town Harpers Ferry Historic District, away from the heavily touristed area and close to restaurants and a bar. Also, we're far enough away from the train tracks that the whistles are more of a distant wail. The property is visually private but is next to a side street. You may hear neighbors visiting with each other out in the street during the day. Because we're in a small town, we like to stay friendly with our neighbors. We know you'll be respectful. Quiet hours (10 p.m. - 7 a.m.) will be strictly enforced and noise complaints from neighbors will result in a negative review for the rare inconsiderate guest. We're close to Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Potomac & Shenandoah Rivers, C&O Canal Trail, AT, Amtrak train station, Storer College, & Loudoun County wineries. Check in on Sundays may be delayed until 4 pm. The main residential section of the Town of Harpers Ferry (where our tiny cabin is located) is over half a mile up a fairly steep hill from the rivers and the National Historic Park area (and also the C & O Canal Towpath). Through-cyclists on the trail, especially, should be aware of the strenuous ride up. There are NO surveillance cameras on the property. We provide a map of walking routes to nearby views of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers, as well as restaurant lists and info on local attractions. • We absolutely loved our stay at Lynn and Christian's place. The location was perfect, easy to walk to things but also private and quiet. We appreciated the attention to detail and decor of the cabin, everything was comfortable and cute! We are inspired to try and build our own now :). They are excellent hosts, not intrusive but also attentive and checked in to make sure we were warm enough and had what we needed. Definitely recommend this place if you are visiting Harper's Ferry!

  • This tiny house is beautiful and lovely. It's definitely storybook material. Lynn greeted us at the door and made sure we had everything we needed. It was a lovely escape from reality to wander around the mountains in the cold and. I imagine it's even lovelier when the weather is warmer and the town is a little less sleepy 🖤

Very pastoral, ~3 miles from Shepherdstown and ~ 7 miles from Harpers Ferry, WV.
The main farm house dates to 1790. The summer kitchen was remodeled into a guest house / greenhouse in 2009. Two twin beds (or pushed together to make one king bed) are available.
The rolling rural landscape here features mostly farms and estate homes. We live aside the old road between Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry. This road was used notably during the Civil War by Hill's division on it's way from Harpers Ferry to Antietam on the afternoon of 17 September 1862.
  • I can't say enough wonderful things about this place! It is the sweetest, coziest, happiest oasis. The property itself is beautiful and waking up to a view of lovely farmland and sheep was so nice, and the guest house itself is even better than I expected. So many detailed touches and Cindy provided us with anything we needed. We plan to return, definitely recommend!!

  • This place is amazing. Perfect in every way. It was cozy, unique, private, spotless, comfortable, and welcoming! We loved the whole layout. Everything you would possibly need was there, including snacks. Cindy is so warm and friendly and she cares about her guests. We enjoyed our stay so much we plan to go back in warmer weather to enjoy the patio as well. HIghly recommend this guest house!!

  • We had a great stay , very nice people and very accommodating. Also the space is perfect and they make sure you have everything you might need. Highly recommend and hope to stay again sometime soon.

    Carlos2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Cindy and her home are absolute gems. She welcomed us and our dog with open arms, providing us with hiking and restaurant recommendations, and providing the dog with a safe and fenced in area to run, which was a welcome and unexpected bonus. The home is so cozy and full of plants. We woke up with the sunlight and to sheep baaing; our dog in particular loved the plant room. Cindy left us breakfast, coffee, and all the utensils we needed . I plan to come back here again soon! I left restored and rested.

    Rene2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cindy was a tremendous and extremely welcoming host! Her unit is very clean, comfortable, and well-organized, with lots of beautifully-kept plants in the sunroom. There were many additional amenities when we arrived, and the unit has everything you could need. The unit is a separate guest house on the back of the property, so Cindy is always there if you need but she definitely respected our privacy. We particularly enjoyed walking around the property in the morning with our dog and seeing the sheep that Cindy and her family care for. She is surely a super host, and we would highly recommend the unit to anyone looking for a calm getaway in a beautiful area!

    Drew2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Much needed get away. Cindy and her husband were extremely warm and welcoming. I was shocked to see how much they had supplied for us when we first got there! Relaxing view of the green house from the bed room and enjoyed a cozy night by the bon fire! There isn't a kitchen, but we got crafty and enjoyed some roasted red pepper soup and broccoli that we made in the microwave!

Charming Studio Guest Suite located 5 minutes from Historic Harpers Ferry and 10 minutes to Charles Town/Hollywood Casino. Close to Virginia and Maryland wineries and Breweries. Hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, tubing and rafting all close by on the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. Rural neighborhood off the beaten path. Please note that there are steep stairs leading to this second floor suite and it is not handicap accessible. This is a non-smoking property.
Wonderful new build studio suite on the detached garage. All new inside and out !
Please note that our neighborhood is rural. The back yard is home to lots of deer who think it’s their yard! And the neighbor “cat lady” takes in lots of cats. Don’t be surprised if one is on the deck when you come out but don’t let them in! They will over run us!!!
  • What a beautiful space! Christine is extremely responsive and her husband was there when we arrived to show us the space! It was externally clean and welcome! A perfect space for a weekend getaway!

    Jen2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I had the best experience staying here! The location was handy and I appreciated the rural area for the peace and quiet. Even had the company of deer in the early morning passing through the back yard! Everything about this place is focused on the traveler and being able to enjoy the area in whatever capacity you desire! Highly recommend staying here!

  • If you are looking for a wonderful weekend getaway and want a place to base yourself between Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown, you’ll definitely want to check out this lovely flat! My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights, and couldn’t be happier. It is a spacious studio apartment and is within easy driving distance to all of the sites in the area. Although we could self check-in, Christine kindly waited for us although we had a late arrival. The studio was stocked with snacks, coffee, and bathroom amenities and everything was sparkling clean and brand-new. And the flannel bedsheets were heavenly! There’s also a porch at the entrance which has beautiful views of the rolling countryside below. Wish we could’ve stayed longer, but still had a wonderful visit. Thank you for everything, Christine!

The room is its own mini-apartment and is very clean. Comes stocked with a coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, and some light snacks. Chris was a gracious host who was happy to talk me through a map of the local area, highlighting his recommended restaurants and how to best reach the local trailheads. A go-to spot for any hiker!

  • By far one of the best Airbnbs that we have ever stayed at. Beautiful home, amazing amenities, and the most thoughtful hosts. We will definitely be back if we are ever in the area. :D

  • If you need a place to stay in Martinsburg, this is the place! Clean, cozy, with every comfort of home. The full kitchen was so wonderful since we were traveling with a toddler and baby! Great location, private, high end, and quiet. We loved watching the rooster and hens outside too 😊 Jamie was a wonderful host.

Barn apartment in the upper level of a bank barn. Fourteen miles from downtown Leesburg, 5 miles from Harper's Ferry, 1 mile from VA-9 Appalachian trail head. Close to Harper's Ferry Adventure Center, wineries, breweries, tubing, kayaking, hiking, farms. Full kitchen. Unplugged - no satellite, TV, or Internet. There is cell signal. Rate includes 6% Virginia state tax and 7% Loudoun County hotel tax. NOTE: see rethink9.com for construction and traffic issues expected until summer 2021.
The apartment has a spacious MBR with queen bed and a second bedroom with twin. There is a loveseat that folds out into basically a mattress on the floor, mostly suitable for kids or young people. There is no separate dining room - the kitchen has an extra counter with barstools. The living room is small, with a little couch and two chairs. It has a TV/DVD player. Note there is no satellite or cable, you will want to bring movies (there is a small collection in the apartment). This is an unplugged experience. We have coyote, bear, hawks, various waterfowl, amphibians, foxes, groundhogs, weasels, raccoons and opossums, although many are shy and rare to see. There is a great open space for sky viewing, and you may catch us out there sometimes.
There are many local attractions and recreation spots within a few minutes drive. Many of them are in the guidebook. However, the guidebook doesn't let me add events and activities that don't have a physical address, so here are some you might want to know about. Right here on site, local astrophotographer Andrew Baker conducts sky tours and demonstrates the techniques and equipment he uses to catch the amazing shots on his website. Contact him to arrange a sky tour here: https://thebackyardcosmos.wixsite.com/astro/tours Or on Facebook (you can also see some awesome photos there): https://www.facebook.com/thebackyardcosmos/ You can fly over the area: https://balikoutdoors.com/nature-flightseeing Visit the Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts festival if you're here one of the two weekends (spring and fall): http://www.mhacfestival.org/ As a former 4H parent and daughter of a dairy clubber, the Loudoun County Fair has a special place in my heart. Learn about farming, livestock, and what beef fitting is. Oh, and maybe go on some rides or see a show. :) http://loudouncountyfair.com/
  • Great quiet getaway to relax with awesome views and scenery. Can’t wait to come back.

    Ethan2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a nicely finished, clean, loft apartment inside of a barn. The location is great for a getaway and you can see the sky well at night. Very quiet here. Harper’s ferry is close by and Antietam isn’t too far either. Aside from those two destinations though we didn’t find much else to do which was fine with us. Pam responded to messages promptly, but we didn’t need to contact her for anything other than check in/check out. All in all we had a great time.

    Jonathan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice location off the beaten path but close enough to everything

    Joe2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described! We had a great time!

    Erin2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This spot truly is a gem. Our state felt very private and intimate in the beautiful wooded setting we found ourselves in. Pam was a gracious host and provided numerous amenities to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. For anyone coming to visit, I would just recommend you drive VERY slowly up the gravel path up to the apartment. Our small car hit a few noisy bumps on the way up. That’s what we expected from a spot tucked back in nature though so as long as you come prepared and drive cautiously, you’ll be fine! We loved it here and you will too. Thank you, Pam!

    Brian2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This location was so beautiful and peaceful. The scenery was one we enjoyed waking up to every morning. Lots of natural sunlight so if you need darkness in the morning, bring a mask. (Waking up to the sunshine was amazing for me though!) The place was spacious and very nice for a barn apartment. This was a great way to disconnect and just relax. Wifi was a bit spotty, as well as cell signal but honestly, it didn't bother us because we were looking for a peaceful stay. There's a vineyard close by too so definitely take advantage of that. Check-in was SO easy and the host communicated quickly. We would definitely come back.

    Amanda2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a retreat away. Great property for kids or just for anyone wanting to relax. The view of the neighboring vineyard is beautiful.

    Rebecca2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Pam’s place is beautiful. If you’re interested in birds there were many species spotted out the kitchen window! I saw my first northern harrier and mockingbird! There are several cute vineyards in the area, plenty to see and do. The barn cats are adorable! We had a nice fire at the fire pit one night and listened to all the sounds of the mountain. Overall great experience!

    Robert2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • I used the Artist Loft for a writing retreat. I loved the desk in the center of the room. Plus, the bed and couch were comfortable to write on as well. Great lighting. Nice, cozy spot to relax or to focus on a project. The Artist Loft is an attic. I will say—during my weekend, the guests downstairs were loud (but that wasn’t the hosts fault). I just played my music to tune out the downstairs.

  • Easy check-in and communication with Bryan. The house was very clean and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with any utensil/appliance you might need. Sitting at the table with a mug of coffee and taking in the view of the Potomac was therapeutic. Great place!

    Caroline2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The four of us had a wonderful time at Plum Lazy. We had a screenless weekend and devoted the whole weekend to reading books, making puzzles, and great conversation. Only 15 minutes from town, we really appreciated the serene views and thoughtful touches. From the snacks, condiments, and well-stocked kitchen, to the lovely lighting and fun decor. We truly enjoyed our time. We’d love to come back in warmer weather to play in the water. :) Thanks for having us!

    Aleah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you really want a quiet and quaint but stylish and comfortable place to get away, this is it. When outside is quieter than the hum of an empty house, you know you’ve hit a getaway jackpot. Loved the getaway!

    Erin2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Bryan & Cathy were promptly responsive and warmly accommodating. The fireplace is undoubtedly the best touch at this cozy place. The view.... We wish we had such a marvelous view of the river and nature at our place. We saw a bald eagle fly by. There were linens for everyone and more. The beds were very comfortable (we prefer stiff) and everyone slept really well. The decoration is pleasantly and humbly modern. They left us scented candles 🕯 which is always a nice touch. The kitchen is well equipped for serious cooking. We were able to make all of our home cooked meals without any issues even though we brought some tools with us. The upstairs bedroom is cooler than downstairs which can help you decide which room to pick. Though they have heaters in both levels. THE HOUSE OFERS: They had 2 kinds of graters, several good quality knives, cutting boards, aluminum foil, sponges, soap, pans, pots, colander, different kitchen tools like tongs, pizza slicer, ice cream scooper, wine opener, coffee maker, a full spice rack, paper towels, different types of bowls. You’ll find some dry foods in the cabinets. They made sure there are nice touch ups in the bathrooms with hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body soap. The internet was decent. They have a roku TV. MAKE SURE TO BRING: you’ll need to bring your own firewood. Walmart is only a 20min ride away offers 6-piece bundles foru $6. They have a grill but make sure to bring your own charcoal for grilling. MESSAGE TO THE OWNERS: Apologies we couldn’t find the trash receptacle.

  • Karl's place is the perfect getaway! This was our second time here. The space is cozy, quiet, and unique. It's equipped with good heaters and a fireplace for cold months, a sauna, and the basic essentials you need for a brief trip. Karl met us upon arrival to give us a brief tour of the space; he's super friendly and accessible for any questions/concerns!

    Meredith2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Adorable guest house with nice views. The loft bed with skylights was really peaceful and nice to see stars at night and sunrise. Thoughtful touches throughout the place and the sauna is a unique addition!

    Anna2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • So many nice touches added to a small space! My boyfriend and I brought our 2 dogs with us to the house for a 2 day getaway and this was the perfect place! The kitchenette wasn't really put to use in our short stay, but it would be fine for a small stovetop meal. The bed was comfy enough for me, but my boyfriend thought it was a bit too stiff. The loft where the bed is was just enough room for us with a nice little skylight, outlets, nightstands, and even a dresser. The bathroom could use some TLC, but it wasn't enough of an issue to change my review. Of course what really sets this place apart is the hot tub and sauna. The hot tub is situated on the deck facing another rentable property and the main road, but has enough cover to make it private. The tub only stayed around 90° which was fine, but could've been hotter. The sauna was really nice and got hot quick, so we didn't spend too much time inside, but it was well made. I'd definitely recommend this place and only wish we had more time there and tried some of the barbeque!

Located within minutes of Harper's Ferry, and the Harper's Ferry NP Visitors Center and very near the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. Rafting, etc. The apartment was comfortable, sparkling clean, and perfect for a couple, or family of three. Outdoor space with gas grill and fire ring during nice weather. (We were here in late February, pretty chilly to be outside, though) Very quiet neighborhood, access to great hiking, including a portion of the Appalachian Trail. We accept government rates! Please inquire if you are in town on government business. In the Studebaker Suite at Rockhaven B&B, we have prepared quiet and relaxing, comfortable accommodations for your vacation getaway, including a full private spa bathroom with vintage clawfoot bathtub, 6-foot walk-in shower with rain shower head and separate water closet. In the main room, you can enjoy a TV with DirectTV access, a comfy love seat with ottoman, books and games -- even a wood stove for chilly evenings in late fall or winter. For your convenience, the kitchenette includes a sink, microwave, toaster oven, mini-fridge, blender (you can make a smoothie!), mini griddle, and Keurig coffee maker. Dishware is stored in a vintage hoosier cabinet. Decor is industrial/vintage -- and maybe a touch bohemian -- in the main living/sleeping/kitchen areas but more upscale-modern with a French-quarter flair in the bathroom. During this period of COVID-19 concern, guests will be give self-entry instructions. The suite is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between guest stays. You will not need to interact in person with either the hosts or any other guests. Next to your bed is a full-size window right at garden level, so you get a beautiful view of the flowers. Just outside the entrance to the suite is a small covered deck area dedicated for your use, so you can enjoy tranquil breakfast outdoors, if you like, or a glass of wine in the evening. We have tried to make this space more ADA oriented, although it is not strictly ADA compliant. No steps are required between the parking area and the suite, but there is a considerable walk around the side of the house. If this suite is not available on your travel dates, check out our other Harpers Ferry units at airbnb.com/h/entire-third-floor-suite and airbnb.com/h/hike-n-bike-tiny-cabin. This house-with-a-history was originally owned by William and Inez Saunders, both alumni of Storer College. William was on the Storer faculty from 1907 until sometime in the 1940s. You can learn more about our Storer College connection during your visit. Highlights from our reviews: "It is a beautifully designed suite with a private entrance. The decor is fantastic and the bathroom is spa level luxurious..." -Kevin “This place is a hidden treasure! The spectacular garden walk leads to a comfortable, well-lit basement suite. It has been recently updated, with a beautiful spa bath, well stocked kitchenette, and luxury bedding.” - Anne “The Studebaker unit was comfortable and complete with everything that we could need. The décor was packed with interesting items, and the bath was high-end beautiful with luxurious soaps and creams for us to use. The mattress was just perfect. ..." - Donald
Our house is one block from Washington St., the main street in historic Harpers Ferry, so it is quiet yet still close to all the action. The famous trains that run through town at river level are far enough away that all you will hear is a distant wail, if anything at all. Only a few yards away is the former Storer College campus (now occupied by the National Park Service), as well as the Appalachian Trail and the AT Conservancy headquarters. A stroll further down the street takes you by historic homes and buildings, and at the end of the street is the oldest cemetery in town, just above Jefferson Rock. The views of Lower Town HF and the two rivers are great from there! Note that this main residential section of the Town of Harpers Ferry (where our home is located) is over half a mile up a fairly steep hill from the rivers and the National Historic Park area (and also the C & O Canal Towpath). Through-cyclists on the trail, especially, should be aware of the strenuous ride up.

  • Lynn and Christian were amazing hosts! Although we did not have a chance to meet them in person because of conflicting schedules, both made sure that we were taken care of. As for their property - it truly was a rose in a field of daisies. Homely, cozy, clean, the suite was truly amazing. I also doubt that you will find a better bathroom. We definitely recommend them and we can't wait to stay there again when we're back in Harper's Ferry!

  • Minutes after booking, Lynn and Christian established contact and told us that they were looking forward to hosting us. Prior to arriving, communication was thorough and timely and when we arrived, we were warmly greeted and shown their beautiful space. This place is THE BEST AirB&B we’ve ever seen! Truly stunning and every need was already planned for. They set a high bar for others in the area, indeed! We will absolutely be back. I cannot stress how perfect every moment in their lovely suite was to us. Divinity!

  • If you're debating, just do it. This place was amazing!! Would recommend over and over again.

  • We have stayed at AirBNBs all over the US and world and this is one of the best ones yet. There were so many thoughtful details from a full manual with room information and local places to visit to fresh slippers and robes for the sumptuous bathroom experience to a ready made fire and get-to-know you questions by the cozy love seat. We loved our little two-night anniversary get-away and the close walkable proximity to restaurants and downtown. It was only a short drive to Maryland Heights, which proved to be a great hike with excellent views. I can only imagine how lovely it would be in the fall with changing leaves....Maybe we will be able to get back there for a little baby moon! All in all, it was an excellent experience and we would highly recommend.

  • Sparkling clean, very comfortable, with many unexpected touches. You will NOT be disappointed!!

    Gerri2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures truly don't do this place justice. Lynn was a kind and fabulous host and we felt truly pampered and rejuvenated after our stay. Didn't realize how close the suite was to local restaurants and antique shops and historic downtown- didn't even need the car. We went on multiple lovely walks to enjoy the town, but always couldn't wait to get back home to that cozy wood burning stove and clawfoot tub. So grateful for the time we got to spend in this lovely space.

  • Very lovely home. Lynn and Christian were very welcoming. The place is in walking distance to a lot of shops and sights!

    Harpers Ferry, WV, United States

Sitting atop a hill on 23 acres at historic Fairview Farm, Circa 1737, the newly built cottage is surrounded by pasture, organic gardens, history & overlooks the Harpers Ferry Gap. We are just a few miles from Charles Town, Harpers Ferry, Shepardstown & the Hollywood Casino, the Appalachia trail, the Shenandoah & Potomac Rivers, and many historical sites. Start your day watching the sun rise from the deck and sunsets from the porch. We are taking extra precautions sanitizing between guests...
March 26 update: we are using isopropyl alcohol and Lysol to clean between guests. We are wiping all knobs, handles, switches, remotes, and hard surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and spraying all soft surfaces like upholstery, curtains and pillows with Lysol. I am removing the throw pillows. I have extended my winter reduced rate through April. If you are a traveling nurse or doctor or someone working on the front lines please message me for a special rate. I have begun to block 3 nights between each guest to help protect me when cleaning between guests. Please check out all of our photos to see the cottage and surrounding property during all four seasons. It is getting warmer but the nights are still chilly and a perfect time to cuddle up or play board games (provided) in front of the electric fireplace. Come for a visit and let your stress melt away at our little slice of Almost Heaven West Virginia. Historic Harpers Ferry and Shepardstown, chartered in 1762 and one of the two oldest towns in WV, are just 8 miles from the cottage and perfect for a daytime or evening stroll. The Hollywood Casino, just 3 miles from the cottage has a couple very good restaurants, as well as music and a dance floor on weekends, and of course gaming. The advantages of Fairview Farm go beyond the middle-of-everything location, the gardens and sweeping vistas. The perfect family, me-time get away or romantic destination. Parties of four or less, with a positive review and a completed profile can book automatically. A guest without previous reviews or a completed profile will need to send a request to book. The cottage can sleep up to six people, but parties over four will need to send a request to book. Please look thru photos. The property is beautiful dusted or covered in snow and bursts with color in Spring, Summer and Fall. It is a great destination for photographers or anyone who loves the serenity of a rural setting. Our historic barns, mountain views, gently rolling pastures, and the wildlife, including deer, barn swallows, eagles, blue jays, red cardinals, yellow finches and hummingbirds, ground hogs, red fox, bunnies, and the elusive coyotes that can be heard more than seen all make up Fairview Farm. You will also find: > a fire pit surrounded by large rocks and chairs for evening marshmallow toasting is just a short walk from the cottage. A stack of wood is provided. > the main house and cottage sit back from the street more than 1/4 mile so there is a feeling of seclusion without the isolation. > during the 4th of July celebration, there is a fantastic view of the fireworks from the side deck of the cottage or the front porch of the main house, where you are welcome to join us. And there is much more. In early spring the farm is planted with non GMO/organic seeds and then tended organically. Last year was very hard with high temps and torrential downpours, but most of the destruction to our gardens came from bunnies that have moved on to the property and are multiplying like...bunnies. If you sit quietly outside the cottage you are sure to see them running in and out of the raspberry patch. We have our fingers crossed that the weather is less severe this year. We will have organic herbs in my kitchen, and flower gardens. Just ask if you need something for cooking- mint, basil, oregano, rosemary, thai basil. The kitchen is a cook's delight. There is a Keurig, toaster, blender, family size pressure cooker/crock pot and microwave. We've provided a nice set of cookware, and several pieces of Corning Ware that I have collected for years. If guests need a small appliance, such as a rice cooker, ice cream maker, griddle, etc. Please let us know. We have several small appliances that can be brought up to the cottage in just minutes. A large gas grill is also provided on the screened in porch. Please let us know in advance if you intend to use it so we can fill the propane tank. There is no dishwasher in the cottage. We provide a drying mat and several wood drying racks. In keeping with our organic lifestyle, we use as few chemical cleaners as possible in the cottage. We mainly use and provide vinegar or other cleaners without harsh chemicals. Please bring laundry soap if you plan on doing laundry during your stay. While we do not allow large, unruly parties, we can accommodate families or groups that would like to gather for a home cooked holiday meal at the cottage. We are happy to provide additional pots, pans, serving dishes, a full set of china and tables and seating, as needed. Just let us know. The cottage is furnished with an eclectic mix of high end contemporary furniture and vintage and antique pieces. My mother's and my taste combined into a space that all of our guests have raved about. The cottage was built for my mother in her later years. The Heywood Wakefield mid century bedroom suite in the master bedroom was her wedding gift from my grandparents in the late 1950s. Though she never moved in, all doorways, hallways, and the shower were designed to be wheelchair accessible. There is a 1/4 step to enter the porch, the cottage and the shower. The cottage will be tastefully decorated for holidays including a decorated tree for Christmas. If you, your family or friends are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or holiday we are happy to provide a home baked decorated cake or cookies for an additional fee. You can choose from many flavors, and types including glutton free, dairy free, vegan, or organic, even Keto. MOST IMPORTANTLY: We welcome everyone! We absolutely do not and will not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, or who you love. We will respect your privacy and only ask you respect our property. This a functioning small farm, surrounded by farms with all the smells, and noises of livestock and tractors. While the evenings are quiet, and the star filled skies, breathtaking, during planting, growing and harvest season work starts at sun up. Please be aware The main 1/4 mile driveway is gravel and the driveway to the cottage is mostly a dirt road with a layer of gravel. Both can get beat up during bad storms and/or heavy farm equipment. We keep them entirely passable but please drive slowly to avoid potholes on the main driveway. Guests are responsible for reading the House Manual on the App. It’s not heavy reading - just a short list of common sense rules for staying at the cottage. Check -In Instructions on the app include step by step photos to help find and enter the cottage. Other Info: we were chosen to be the recipient of the largest tree plantings along Elks Run by the Conservation Department of WV Forestry. With the help of volunteers, 150 Native trees have been planted along the creek to help prevent erosion. UPDATE: The remaining 150 trees have been planted. We are located on the main road that runs between Charles Town and Sheperdstown. There are grocery stores (Aldis, Weiss, and a Giant called Martins) CVS, Rite Aid, Sweetfrog, Home Depot, Kohls, a great nail salon, and several restaurants and fast food joints within 3 miles. All the conveniences of the suburbs, in a rural setting. The cottage is surrounded by farmland pastures. A working dairy farm is across the street and can be seen from the cottage. The pastures of a beautiful 60 acre farm that once bred black angus, backs to our property
  • Don’t pass this fantastic cottage up! Truly a beautiful place to stay! We will return!

  • This place is a gem! Very clean with lovely decorations. The kitchen is especially well equipped. Wish we could have stayed longer! We especially loved how secluded the house was! Just perfect!

  • This was my husband and I's second time staying at Dina's place (both times were for friends' events in the area - first a wedding celebration and then a baby shower). We LOVE the location and how adorable this cottage is - it's gorgeous and isolated and a wonderful place to come back to after being out all day (the stars, the birds, etc.). It might be a little cramped for anything more than one family, but for a couple or a family with kids, it's a great space.

  • The place is beautiful and quiet. We only stayed for a day, but we could see an amazing sunset in front of the house, and a just as beautiful sunrise in the back. We have two little kids and they loved running outside. The house is beautifully decorated, and very organized.

  • We enjoyed our time at The Cottage! The space was great; we ended up mostly staying inside due to the cold weather, and had a wonderful time. There are several activities in the area that we'll try to explore when it is warmer! Dina is great with communication (and also has some great muffin-making skills).

    Jennifer2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I stayed in Dina’s place for a girls weekend. It was absolutely perfect. It was so homey and cozy, the muffins Dina made were AMAZING, and we just felt to welcomed and had all that we needed. Dina made sure we had everything we needed, checked in with us, but wasn’t intrusive. The place was so nicely decorated and it felt so private. You can’t beat the views (my friend said she saw over a dozen deer our first morning!). Dina also didn’t have any guests checking in the day we checked out, so she offered us a few extra hours, which was super appreciated since we had checked in so late the first night. I hope to come back with my husband in the spring or summer and enjoy the place again! You will definitely not regret staying here!

    Sarah2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Dina's place is beautiful, clean and looked as it was posted. Dina was a fantastic host and even baked us a cake. It was a relaxing a few days escaping the city and would come back.

    Jeremy2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Dina was very attentive prior to the visit and we look forward to staying here again. Specifically, the cottage interior was quaint and thoughtfully decorated with Asian art. The place offered privacy being away from the main road. The muffins were an added touch to make one feel at home. The getaway from Northern Va/DC proved to cure our daily stresses!
